I will also discuss the tonal value and perspective in water. How to paint waves, reflect drawn, and an easy color recipe for painting water. And to better understand how to apply all these techniques and principles. I will be doing three practical and began thinking exercises, which you'll surely enjoyed being, being. So whether you're a beginner in what their color or someone who wants to discover more about this beautiful medium. This glass is perfect for you. Get your materials ready, and I'll see you in glass. 2. Materials: You don't need to have so much things to start this journey of fainting water without their father. Now haulers in my families are yellow ochre branch, Anna, Indian read, kidnapper, don't rose. Neutral thing. I'm a disk genuine horizon blue or dark based light, lavender or puzzled violet, banes degree, indigo and audit grieved. For the brushes. I will be using this black velvet, that brush for Brie wetting the paper and doing large washes. Next, I will also use Manza glaze brush and fan brush for lifting colors. Silver White Throne brush, size eight. It is a synthetic brush. Silver brush, Red Sable around brushed sizing, also. Silver brush, golden natural, wrong brush. Or be Thales. And silver brush Antonioni, Angular for small spots. All these brushes are from Silver brush limited. And we will also need a liquid masking through the width. Some soft pencil, eraser, tool cups of water, and some tissue. 3. Watercolor Techniques: Before we dive in to painting different water scenes, we need to understand first some water color techniques that we will apply in our being. These techniques are essential for your paintings to look interesting. I won't be teaching four techniques such as dry brush, stroke, smooth gradient wash technique, and lifting technique. Let's start with a dry brush technique. Using a round brush. This is a synthetic brush. We know that brush with grooming mixture of pigment. When we say creamy, consistency, is more pigment and less water lower than third brush with mixture. Next, we remove the excess water from our brush by dabbing it on mean issue. A quick but life straight stroke starting from one side to the other. You know that you did the dry stroke, correct me. If you see some white gaps on the paper like this one. Dr. Practicing this drop for a few times until you get to know the behavior of your brush. Or the second technique, we will phaco smooth gradient wash. This technique is useful to paint smooth transition of colors in water as much as possible. We want to avoid the hard edges on the water surface. So to create a smooth gradient wash, start by wetting the surface with water. Next, apply a light wash of paint on one layer. And was the first mayor, and the paper is filled with the next mayor with a slightly darker, another one with a dark dust storm. Let the paint blend naturally and you will notice that there is no hard edges in between the layers. Or the third technique, with just the salt. The salt is a wonderful ingredients, unique texture to our painting. Just keep in mind though that different cell types produce different texture on different papers. That's why it's important to experiment and practice. In doing this off technique. That timing is also very import them. In applying the soil. Apply a layer of paint on your paper first. And while the paper is poised, sprinkle some salt and wait for it. The texture. If we got strike. Once the paint is already thrive, you may remove the excess salt on the paper. Or the last technique. We will teach you that lifting technique. When it comes to portray light rays. We can use this lifting technique to lift the color and show the brightness of light that are 0s. So first, I will create a layer of pigment on the paper. Again, the timing is very important that the paper should not be too wet nor do a dry. We wait for the paper to get moist before we start lifting the big man. I will be using a synthetic flat brush to lift the color from the paper. So really if the pain through a swift stroke, while the paper is still hopes practice or techniques before proceeding. Our main projects. 4. Perspective and Tone of water: Let's understand respect they're going off water. Imagine dividing the Walker enthalpy figures or net wealth or sexual. Well for them that this is our working paper and we will be drawing water. Walther into distance is lighter and then gradually becomes darker. Low cert the US repaint the water withdrawals from light and dark. Second, there are no large waves in the backdrop or in level one. We only paint small horizontal waves here in level two. And the bigger waves are painted on level three. The beat waves are not horizontal anymore, but could be irregular in shape like this one. These waves become even bigger, closer to us, smaller as it reaches the level two. The waves are also darker in value in order to save the balance in air perspective. Therefore, it is important to remember that degradation in water is not just only applied, but also in the waves. So when we apply it in watercolor, you start with whitewash. Then gradually turning into a darker wash. Background being done like this. For the dark bits. Waves are found here in level dope. And these waves are like horizontal lines. And then big waves are found here in level three, which are irregular insights. 5. Preparing to Paint: Now that we're done studying the water colleague techniques and perspective and tonal value in watercolor, especially in painting water. We are ready to feign three interesting plots wherein we will be applying all the things that we learned in the previous videos. First, we will paint an underwater scene. Second will be a simple vote. The interesting reflection on rippled Wachter. And lastly, we will faint also is summer beach scene focusing on waves, shadows, and this cliff on the side. Everything that we've learned from the videos will be applied in this three projects. I hope that you can follow along and paint with me. This three wonderful seascape paintings. 6. Class Project 1 Under The Sea Overview: For our first project, we will be being dean and underwater scene, where there is a library from the sky reflected through the authors. In this class, we will apply what they're colored techniques such as mod gradient on water, color lifting for the libraries, and salt technique for the hurdles or our composition we will face in portrait format. We will place this source of light here on the right side, the first sheet, where the chlorines are position here below. We add some fish to bring more Lyft or picture. And we don't have to limit ourselves with what we see on a reference photo. Just feel free to express your imagination. 7. Under The Sea: Pencil Sketch: Let's begin with our pencil sketch. In sketching, it's important to have the right composition. We also don't have to copy all the details in the coral reef, but instead, just draw the big shapes that we see in a reference photo. I start with Positioning The Coral Reef at the lower part of the paper, giving more space for what their enlight 3s let your imagination were by adding some preachers like small and big fish here in there. Make sure that the officials also vary in size or more natural. For the small fishes. I just draw some small dots here and there to create an impression of School of Fish. When you're done, let's move on to applying masking to wheat. 8. Under The Sea: Applying Masking Fluid: When you're good with your basic sketch, we apply maximum fluid on the fishes. But before picking up masking fluids, dip your old synthetic brush first on water to protect it from getting damage. Obliges a thin layer of masking fluid on the fishes and let it dry completely. In case you don't have a maximum fluid. You can just live the faint using additional later on. Use a fake wife pigment, smoke, vicious. Recover. Each fish begins with a thin layer of messing with dry completely before starting with the painting. 9. Under The Sea Painting The Water: The flow of word painting would be first painting on one golden light and what they're fragment. Next, we, the Caro's, unless the deficient, we will be fainting wet and wet. You start by spreading the water evenly incompletely, using a flat brush. Make sure your paper is really width. Then we left the water set though in the paper for a few minutes. Once your paper is shiny, we'd begin by painting the light source with a very thin mix of yellow ochre, leaving a small and fainted area on the upper right corner. To make the light shining, we should leave that part of the paper I'm beings as following what we see from the reference photo. We then feign some soft strokes of verbose by mixing violet and horizon due. Make sure that the value of yellow ochre and the purple color or the same as transition of Conger's. Next layer would be a light field color. So I use the same mix, but this time, more. I always refer to the reference photo to get the value of the image. Or my fame thing. Docker eighth of darker color, just as a bit of indigo under same fields mix that we did. I also live my paper on different their electrons to help the water flow on areas where I wanted to go. Make sure that your paper is still wet and flow me when doing this step so we can avoid the hard edges between callers. Let the water color flow and creates its own effect in movement. As we go into the water, just add Indigo in your third price makes a dark dawn underwater. For the water. I am playing with just DO colors. Horizon, blue, indigo. I'm altering the proportion of both colors to create either dark place makes Dark. We'll mix. In this stage a coral reef fragment being good. Docker, a semi defined stroke for the waves above the water. And to create the light or use a flat brush, I lifted by doing a brief diagonal stroke from the light source. Fountain. Just makes sure that the brush is clean every after stroke. Okay. Yes. So again, when lifting color to show light rays, create a movement, a diagonal stroke from the light source going down. Make sure that your brush is clean every after stroke, but avoids the paper. The paper should also be with when doing this step. This is to avoid having hard edges. When doing the next thing. Since my favorites still with I'm slightly darkening the upper portion of the water to Grade Mark contrast on the light rates. While your first layer is still wet, you can still make some adjustments like adding darker dawns and more defined strokes that would still smoothly blends on paper when it dries out? Yes. Yes. You can also use a fan brush to create these very thin light breaks. Feel free to put adjustment of value. Add layers of darker colors while you're there with once it's dry. Boys, I think somewhere layers. When you're done, we are ready to proceed on the forums. 10. PUnder the sea: Painting the Corals: Now we proceed by painting the forums for this fragment. We won't be connecting different colors and let this salt create the natural texture for us. Don't forget to be mindful of the tonal value of the Caro's based on the reference photo. Since this is a foregone, it is also necessary to use creamy mixture of pigment, misled need free with the fragment with clean water. So callers will easily flow and mix. Replay with different colors, like being yellow, green, and orange. You can set your paper, go faint would flow naturally. A start with adding. And then green and slightly darkening the lower part of my Coral Reef using green and indigo. Remember, I am using a creaming mixture so that later on after adding the salt, would not be so light. I add a yellow mixture. Orangey color. Blend all colors together. Muddy colors. Just avoid placing too much layers above each color. When you're done with placing colours, wait for a few moments to let the paint settle in before gently sprinkling some salt for texture. I suggest that you practice derived on placing song So that you want to lose. And you will be able to maximize the effect of salt. When you're done. Just paper, chip on it. On its own. The more salt that you put, the texture on the coral reef. 11. Under The Sea Painting The Fish: Before removing the salt particles from the paper, make sure that the paper is completely dry. You can use a heater like this one, or just let the favored dry on its own. The salt creates a beautiful and unique effect on watercolor. Leaving this kind of texture on beeper. Yes. Once the paper is called, the salt particles being domestic issues, right? Almost. There. Mm-hm. I use three fissures and some dogs. For the small fish. You start agitation and Baker Quad, others showed us the sea creatures. You can also use Chef separator. Okay. Mm-hm. And view the small fishes. Just put a song whitespaces. Instead of offering small dogs. Dogs, fresh fish. Just to give. When you're done with this step, step, check your work and your work. For the last. Since I notice that the colors of the Caro's turned a little bit light. I will slightly brew with the area with clean water and add some more layer of color. When you need to do the same steps as mind. Make sure not the covered the entire fragment with another layer of colors. So you will not lose the salt effect that we have in our first layer. However, if you're coral reef Already bright and colorful, you don't have to copy and repeat this step. Again. This is only necessary if you're coral reef a little bit lighter and you want to bring more live. Do your thing. So it's important to step back. They are set down enough, but just under fish. So add additional interests. So as we close, I hope you enjoyed our quick journey and don't be afraid to try using different references. Experiment with the techniques and play with colors. I'm excited to see your undersea fainting. And let's explore more what their adventure on our next project. This is our final word. 12. Class Project 2 Boat and Reflection Overview : In our second project, we won't be painting a simple boat with a very interesting reflection on rippled water. We will practice painting gradient in what they're following the rule of perspective. We will also learn the right timing on thinking waves. How to draw a boat, and the colors used to being its reflection on water. 13. Boat and Reflection Pencil Sketch: Let's start by deciding where to please the boat. You place it on the middle right-side. Do leave enough space for the reflection. Makes sure that the size of the boat is proportionate to the size of your paper. Don't forget to draw the big shapes first before diving on the small details. It is helpful to sometimes draw first the outline of the boat starting from the bottom. You don't have to copy all the details you see in the image. But instead just draw some shapes that represent the ropes. It is also necessary to keep your pencil sketch bearing life. It will show me what their color. Just do some soft strokes based on what you see in the reference photo. Make the sketch. But if you were already done every sketch, we can erase hard lines before proceeding. Our pencil sketch. 14. Boat and Reflection: Painting the Water: For our first wash, the enthalpy vapor, except for the boat would mean what are you seeing? A mixed skirt on hair brush. Make sure that your paper is wet. Next, I mix lavender and torque Boyce and a lot of water to the far this meat. Make them mixture what three, so that we can achieve a very light donor value. Next, start painting from the top. Going down. As I think the portion of the water closer to me, I add a bit of violet on my mixture to have agreed Jen remembered their rule in prospective. What they're far from us is light, while closest to us is dark. The darkest stone. Just add indigo on your mixture. Smoking you blend the colors using your flat brush and don't forget to avoid fame thing the boat. Let the pain settle in for a few minutes. Then wants to paper is semi with i will be the same thing. The waves or the color of the leaves. Creamy mix of indigo, lavender. And third voice for the big dark waves in the foreground. For the horizontal thin waves at the background, I will use a light, dark voicemail. Make sure it the waves or the vapor is still semi width. Edges. For a fluid lines. Or the theme of waves on the ocean far from us. For big waves, stroke fluid. Then sing your brush them and avoid creating uniform patterns for a more natural impression of waves. I will also darken some parts of the waves. So give deaf. And they mentioned. If you are unsure, on adding waves, It's necessary to practice on a separate sheet of paper to understand the wetness and moisture of your paper before placing the waves. When the paper is filter with. As you paint the waves, the pigment would only leave on the color of water. However, when the paper is already dry, you will create hard edges as your beam. The waves. Thus, the timing is really important them before placing the waves to ensure the create and achieve a soft blend colors between water and the waves. After this step, this layer dry completely, then we can proceed on the boat. And you want to add some more layers of waves slightly before. Before finding the waves is essential for you to avoid having hard edges. 15. Boat and Reflection: Painting the Boat: Window, what they're fragment this painting, this shadow, the boat with the mix of horizon in violet. And they paint over the shadows. The white floaters. And I will darken the edge of the boat clutching the water surface. Always referred their reference photo so you can properly apply the same tonal value based on the photo. For the darker part of the shadow portion, just add neutral theme under mixture that would leave for a darker don't blend of color smoothly using synthetic brush for the left side of the bowl. And mix mixture of yellow ochre and lavender. Make sure that your pigments are creating unnecessary colour mixtures, like the one that I had. There is a three? Yes. Each mixture. In our sights. The boat, a simply mix sprint Shanna environment. To show dimensions on the parts of the boat, it is necessary to defer the thorns of your use. You don't have to outline each side to show dimension, but rather use a different tone to create. They mentioned. For the boat. And the rest of them you see in this ROM lightning is silver brush. Unnatural. It is a very nice makes it easy for me. Folks. Like this one. Why? Okay. Okay. For Duflo thirst with Michelle dose. A lavender color, and then use octane brush to soften the edges. Okay. Why? Yeah. When the layers we can add some extra interest into boat. We also need to wait for the boat to dry completely before proceeding on fainting, right? No. 16. Boat and Reflection: Painting the Reflection: For the reflection of the boat on water, we use indigo were rising blue, Vionnet and thinks great. Recreate a premium mix of this corner for the dark Arthur reflection on walker. When it being the reflection on the left side, I will be using a synthetic brush. It is also a helpful if you have a synthetic brush with a pointed. So it would be Ac, the themes strokes on those parts of the waves that has failed. Likes. Let's start painting the reflection on the website. They're both using my synthetic brush and then paint over the other parts of their reflections with strokes that their life. Yeah. For the reflection on the right side, make it light in color as seen in the reference photo. So we're makes a light wash of yellow ochre and Horizon Blue and just beans. What are you seeing their reference? Again, it's important to make your strokes gentle and soft. The dark reflection with a light one. By meeting each color. While the big myth is still wet. You cannot avoid doing or overdoing the movement of third flexion and water by checking the reference for adult from bank to bank. You can also add dots and fine strokes of reflection on what third, just as what we see in the reference for this, be careful not to over a day or work by checking your paper and your fame thing. Okay. Yeah. 17. Boat and Reflection: Painting Details: To finish her fame thing, we can enhance the shadows and the dark. In the book. We also adds some highlights or shred the ring accent on their being theme. Just remember that when painting highlights and details, it is essential to use Dick and both are a figment to ensure that they would stand out. I hope this exercise helped you understand the movement of water, understand their rights timing in adding waves on wet vapor, and also enjoy lacing details and highlights on the main element, as well as painting reflection of the boat on water. When you add a rope under both, don't try to add its reflection on water. Feel free to add anything that you feel that would enhance your painting and don't be limited on what you see under reference 4-4. This is our final dainty. 18. Class Project 3: Summer Beach Overview: For our next project, we will be painting a summer beach scene on aerial view. Here we wrote up tonight dry brush technique to show the texture of ropes and leave. On this site. We will also learn to paint shadows to give dementia on leaves, umbrellas, and people by the beach. And lastly, we will find an aerial view of the clear blue ocean using the techniques that we learned. 19. Summer Beach: Pencil Sketch: Let's start in sketching the beach scene and larger space of the paper, the author fragment. So we position the big rocky mung bean or here on the left side. After this, let's do a live and basic outline of the shore line and some rough sketches of umbrellas on top view. As you make them varying in size and not uniformly position. You can also sketch the reflected shadows numberless on this end, after this step. When you're happy with your basic sketch, we can move on to placing the masking. So remember, when applying masking fluid, use an old synthetic brush and debit first in water. Before dipping it into masking flu, we apply a very thin layer of masking fluid only on the umbrellas. And the same thing we do on the white waves of the shoreline. Origins upto waves with masking period, make the stroke and irregular in shape. When you're done with this step, just let the masking period right up to the first wash. 20. Summer Beach Painting the Beach: Let's start painting by pre-web being the whole paper with water. Make sure the Damascus fluid is thoroughly dry. Before doing this step. Spread the water evenly and ensure that all parts of the paper are wet. Now, let's being descend first with yellow ochre branch into, in a bit of Horizon Blue with lots of water. A vein from the shore line going down in varying tonal value of descend may adding some branching in our mixture. I also slightly dark and descend area by the waves for additional contrast. You can see that there are some sand area for additional texture. The author with the horizon blue and a bit of yellow ochre. A portion of the water near Dischord. As your first near blended smoothly with the papers. So we remembered the perspective and gone up water in applying colors from the shore down to the deep waters. Water by Dischord is lighter. 21. Summer Beach: Painting the Cliff: We paint the base of the cliff. We bring Shanda and near the ochre. Again, we do this step while the paper is still wet. Extra and they mentioned on the glyphs were out there and play with d2 haulers. To get dark and light bones. We can simply add a bit of a darker brown color. Agree, the shadows. It is very important to work fast, but the paper is still with us. On this stage. We simply set up the base color of the all the details will be done. After this process. You don't have to copy exactly what you see on the reference photo. But it is important to always refer on your reference photo to get the same total value of the picture and apply it to the thing. I also blend in, olive green. To show a different texture. I'm darkening this edge just to separate it from the water. Next, I create the very dark brown color to show the shadowed part. Here. I'm creating light strokes for impressions of cracks, textures, re-using the same dark brown color. Again, we're just name the color yellow ochre, different shades of brown. Right? Now I shifted a smaller brush with a final thought just for my bass wash. Okay. 22. Summer Beach: Painting the Details: Now let's add some details in fixture and appear when the fragment is already drives. By using a very small drop, which is put then we use some super brush to paint them. In such a case. Dct based just talked wrong thing might happen. Could be. For instance, I'm a freshman second to break through to the temperature of the surface of the face. Just gets out your fingers on Between the faith out here. So 50-50. This model would drop straight dislodges, helpful for increasing the very same comprise many adults. It's taking as much. For each stage. A speaker soaps in irregular shape. The direction of making careful caution optical region between the two parties. Receptor. Looks good if it's real work. You can also use this brush, dry brush stroke for a different texture. What do you practice from the water colored techniques that we did? And if you need to review how to do it, just feel free to go back. Water color techniques review section. After this step, we will proceed in the waves. 23. Summer Beach: Painting the Umbrellas: Before proceeding on Bain thing though, umbrellas in weaves, I've found some needs, a little bit more of details and find bunches conduct new area. For file.js. I prefer you seeing and creamy mixture so that the beans would be very highlighted and visible. And the those spots for contrast. And to define the shape without putting a straight outline of a dots here and there would be sufficient to give an impression of the photon or the whole, the whole size of the leaf. I got my finger after having also some hints of green pigments in this water area. Just to write the note though, color of this reflection underwater. Next, let's remove the masking fluids so we can paint over the umbrellas in reefs. May choose red colors from my palate, like Indian read Brinch, Jana, and third, to paint the umbrellas later on. So this is a rubber eraser that I got from Japan. You wish your finger in removing domestic fuel rate, there's an alternative. But if you have this kind of rubber eraser, it is more convenient to use for removing masking. So for the umbrellas, I'll just play with the colors that I have been a main Pilot. I'll be choosing Indian read, bring Shanna and third voice to be bright colored umbrellas on the shore. A US also seemed that thick brush so that I have a controlled amount of water, as I've been. The details in this, umbrellas make your mixture very creamy. Ones stand out. And you can also leave some small white gaps or Don Dodge umbrella. Instead of painting the entire whitespace. You can afford their reference photo color combinations. But you can always feel free to maximize the followers that you have in your palate and not focus too much on copying exactly what you've seen the reference photo. So what I do here is some number of umbrellas that are red in color. And I also pleased some third case color umbrella for balance of warm and cool colors. There's new this step carefully, enjoyed the process and see how water color can bring relaxation. Also, Delight. While doing it. So for this shadows reflected on the sound, I will mix lavender in neutral damped and the yellow, including brunch Jana, the father of the shadow. I will be reflected shadow next to the umbrellas on its left side. Just as how I see it in the reference photo. Make your mixture a little bit. Instead of very thick and creamy mixture. To complete the layers up Debra, unless I paint a darker strip of color. To show Dementia. Carefully, do this. On every umbrella that you have faced in your shores. You can create a darker mix of the color that you used by adding a little bit of neutral. For Indian read, I added indian red with neutral tint, word Horizon, Blue, Horizon you'll plus neutron thin. And four in the branch. And the same thing, I added a little bit of neutral Dan for a darker dome. Our beach brain thing would not be complete without people enjoying the summer beach. So let's paint before impressions of rueful group of people by being small dots. Using the access means that you have on your family and also reflect the shadow on the SAT.
