1. Sketching our Face: we owe the from the brushes. I'm going to choose texture and good. I'm going to sit my brush to the biggest strike that I can and I'm going without lifting my pen off the page. I'm going to paint the entire 42 paper once. I'm happy with that. I'm going to be re sizing this be making squares of but bigger. I told it, Looks reasonably care almost there. Yeah, but you can't. So once I've got this, I'm going to tune the capacity Dom, and I'm going to create a new layer. And I'm going to place the new layer under the script. The great, isn't it just to help me keep lard straight? So creating my new layer, turning down the A pass it years I've mentioned and I'm just going to choose one of the lines. It goes vertical. Andi, I'm going to be working on 1/2 of the face. Andi, I'll be duplicating this and then flipping it over once. I'm happy with hard. That side is looking, so I'm just choosing the HB pencil. And I've said my color to dark gray just for sketching. And there I'm just gonna mark the top where the top of the head would be on the same again at the bottom where the chin is. That just gives me a place to work. And I'm just gonna I like starting at the chin and then working up towards the side of the face and other side of the faces straight. And this is way, you know, inside of faces were your ears Said said, Good starts getting straight now on dumb. Just get it. Looking reasonably like I would expect face to look just 1/2. I'm just going to joining the top of the head up. Now, this is just a guard. So there isn't, you know, we're gonna be We're gonna be deleting the guard once we're done. Once we've started finished painting a painting that something to be there anymore. But it's nice just to be able to work within something 2. Adding our base colour: the first thing that we're going to do is we're going to get rid of the top layer that has the group nut. I'm just grouping these together, and I'm gonna lock that I'm creating new layer. I'm just making my new unto me my sketch. And I'm just changing to one of the airbrushing. That's just leave the hard airbrush and I'm just going too hard a brush, the entire inside of sketch going over everything. So everything's gonna be skin cover. Just check. I'm just gonna Thanks. I ain't doing that. So this is this is gonna be was from now onwards on this particular there, any color is gonna be added to the Slayer. We're not creating any new layers. It's all happening on this lair. We want the work to look as close to riel art as we can, you know, using traditional pens and pencils and critics and stuff like that. So, um, we're trying not to look digital. We can achieve that quite easy because some of the brushes have got lovely texture inside them, and we'll be putting that texture out as we as we go along. So it's almost done now. Gonna do that. But I'm just gonna go around with a raise, but the eraser tool and we're off kind of going out the lines. I'm just going to to spread them out. I'm gonna do this again on a It's just a anything. I just kind of like to look neat. Just go along and respond all the other little bits. And then once we once we've done this, um, we'll start building up, the skin turns and the next Dixon. It's just a few more areas that I need to do from a few times 20 faces. So So once, as we progress says, the painting starts to develop, we'll get rid of the set. You can either delete schedule, just hide it. So CNN expects him. 3. Building our face: hi in this. Listen, we're going to be building up the face, so I'm just going to reduce the size and I'm going to draw in a Mick and some shoulders. I'm just going to finish that. So our face doesn't book weird. We're not trying to be realistic. We're just creating a creator face. So I'm going to start doing the eyes. The eyes are just almond shaped. That's the top pilot. And then we're going down into the tear duct and then coming around to do your actual iris of the eye and just to duck boots. It's just having a little bit of finesse just to tidy it up the back of the eye. And then this little fold of skin just sits directly under. The are Lindholm. I'm going to do the fold. It's it's over. The are on this and fill Iran, you know, will be creating shadow above this on one slightly. But I'm just going and just tidying up the top line and then I'm going. I'm going to be doing me, my bro, but just wants to say at this point the I the with the faces usually are three eyes wide. So that's something. Just to remember, I'm just resize and just make sure that I'm happy with the size in relation to the width of the face. Yet I'm quite happy with that. So I'm going to create a new there, and I'm going to do the nose. The nose consists of three spheres, a large and to shapes nor to smaller ones. Next hurt note from the nostrils. I'm just putting that in. That's a S s a It's just a guard. Andi, This is the bridge of the nose. Just stop that way and then the other side, and then I'm just going to tidy it up a bit, redefined the bottom of the nurse like us and around the side, and then we're at and the nostril holes. I'm just a bit of shading. I'm sorry about that dropping in like that. I want to apologize. I don't know how to turn it off, honey to it, but I said that's a shading underneath the nose right underneath her nose is a shade, right? But more of a shading man. Miss, no stroke. Also, I'm gonna put in on the other side. And then there's this a little lippy dippy thing that sits between the knows, the bottom of the nurse in the top, the mouth. I mean, it has good it an official name. I'm just not sure what it's called. Aquila Phillipe dippy That's slightly dark Her, You know, that's didn't it in, um, in your skin. I mean, if you're only finger over that, I'm just re sizing it again. So don't want a big fat nostril. Just making sure that I'm happy with where it iss that it's roughly even. It's gonna put a bit more shading the I mean, you're not going to see this, but it's just it helps the notes look more real. So now I'm going to do the math. Months can sometimes be a bit of a challenge in relation to the fair shackling. I'm just doing too ovals, which is just going to form the little Bo at the top of the mouth. I just got it down to the corner of the mouth not the same the other side. Just give it a but of I mean my lips. When we finished, the lips are going to look anything like these just doing the bottom part of the lip, and then I just very quickly did the bottom up needs a bit of work on a bit of tiding up. Generally, the top lip is smaller than the bottom. Up on the top look is always a darker shade, but in the bottom, naturally, the top Clippers darker. That's also something bear in mind because we're working on a layer for the lips. Way can actually play around until we find a science were happy with. I'm still not happy with the bottom of the lips. I'm just gonna go ahead and just tweak it a bit more until up that's breast. Find something that I'm happy with, just playing a move. I spoke. It's looking good, so we're gonna go in. Our next listen is base layer 4. laying down colour: So now that we've created our base layer, we're just going to be adding deeper tones and lighter turns off the skin color. So I'm going to get now just a darker shade off the skin tone color, and I'm going to go around the nose. Not sad, Face says. I done before as that sorry as I've done before on the on the sketch. So I'm just filling it in on and I'm just filling in all the dark places around the eye but on the bridge of the nose, and I'm going to do the same to the upside. The place that we're going to spend the most time is when me we get to the eyes and that's well, what spinning was fine because they create the drama in the picture, so spending a bit of time in it. So it's really hopeful. So I'm just layering color in color, and I'm in some instances, I'm taking me the pencil now, going as I would do in a traditional pencil and laying it more on its side. So I'm using the side of the nib to actually pull our texture, which is what's happening over here. I wanted to look textured. I don't want it to look painted digitally. That's not what this is about. So I like the brush, The edge, You'd be 66 b pencil. And, um, as I said, just going likely you You'll go darker with the doctor, a dark color, and we're just gonna will build up some lighter color over that. Never say the lighter cover, like two times. Um, well, just be pressing very gently on the pencil like we would if we were doing in a pencil. Work with real pen and paper. I'm just going around. You know what's really nice? Is that Boston covering everything the based coastal showing. And I'm just going up for it. I'm just carry on working like this, slowly building, building, color, rock and really, it's just variations off the skin. Turn color wouldn't wouldn't. Don't be too far away from this. And whilst of saying that, you know, skin isn't just one color, it's made up of many hues share shadows and on highlights. So depending on where the lights coming from, were just was just Ford facing lady. And, uh so we're just We're doing this full on. So this. I was going along the edges, just redefining the nose as you notice. I haven't got rid of the top sketch layer yet, but I will be working with that for a little bit longer. As the picture starts to to take place on a stick, the lovely person that we're drawing starts to emerge. Uh, we won't be purse anymore. I'm just putting a shadow under the neck. There is a shadow under the next to make the head stand forward of the neck. You need to create that shadow there. I just going now. I don't want to see any sharp lines Mr will be blended in and no, not really be visible. That's smiling. Personal choices. That's what I prefer to do. I'm just going along the top of the islands, and I'm just darkening those areas because that's the fold of skin. That skin folds down in that way and produces the shadow and under the eyes as follows a shadow there and in the corners with a two doctor, we're going to get darker, so as we go along, it'll get dark, just putting in some more shadows there, just carrying on, working it I'm not just adding the color that I'm using is a sort of a very pale grey, because the whites of the eye wall never pill watch they have. You know, if you stand in front of the mirror and you have a look at your your eyeballs, not they're not white, you know, they've got a bit of more gration that they actually do. You have some color in them. I'm just doing the color of the eyes. And I'm just using the mid sort of green. Well, I fit said you color. I'm just gonna go along with that just color heaven. And then I'm gonna go with the doctor, kind of. And, um, we're going to do the art parts of, you know, the edge of the I. Yeah, I bull because the eyeball is round. So the further you know, if you look at a ball the edges of dark So in order to create the illusion off being a ball , the ages need to be drugged her and the top of the I will always be dark. Her It'll be more and shadow from the actual I load. So we created a shadow along there as well. I'm just redefining the top of the I Going around huge. The top of the I, you know, is is generally dark. So, Mr Shadow, there is always a shadow there, always under your eye, you know, And that's costly from from the other. Do you ever side? Just take your time when you're doing the eyes, it's really worth it, you know, a good nominee going around the age of snow and just doesn't have to be, you know, perfect because we're painterly looking is really lovely. So just carry on putting in color on our next lists. And we're going to concentrate more on on refining, uh, picture as well. So there's lots of things that still needs happen to kind of make your picture ping, but don't want to make this too long. I mean, you can stop it any points and then just catch up with me if you want to. That's fine. We're quite happy with that. Just just go slowly. If you've never drawn affairs before, don't be intimidated. It's It's not hard. So I mean, I don't know how many faces after one probably thousands over the years, and I love it. Every face is just I never know when I'm doing these thes without the's faces about a reference. I love them because I never know who's coming out, and I never you know, toys. It's always there, always a surprised me because, um, they never look for Sam and I love that, you know, it's a little character that emerges from the page. I mean, she's she's still along. Well, I mean, I'm sure you noticed now I haven't put years. And then the reason I don't put years in its because No, no, I understand percent of the time they're they're covered with here, so you wouldn't see them anywhere and set a brother with him. But, you know, if you want to put this in, that's fine. But for this this tutorial, I'm not bothered about that. I'm putting out a great deal of noticed about some blue and yellow in the skin. Finishing off: I'm creating to hear layers. Ones go to sit behind the artwork and the other is going to sit above. I'm just going to Skitch on the top layer where I'd like the Here it's a full and on the bottom there, I'm going to start working my darker turns. I'm just gonna color this all in one turn. This is a dark shade of brown, just kind of the whole backgrounded. And then I'll do the same for the top layer. Just color that all in doesn't have to be perfect. Just, uh, use the side of your up a pencil and you can actually cover quite a large area without actually increasing the size of your brush. And it brings out lovely texture, which is great. So I've got it'll there. I'm gonna choose a smaller pencil brush. I'm in a smaller brush size and a different color, and I'm going to sketch long Thune strokes off here and pay paying attention to the outside . Here is wispy. So show the wispy ends on the outside of here, just changing color. Just bringing color in. Just keep looking at your picture at more wisps at light and dark. color to that because that's how he tends to look. But make see, not tidy Vega. That's looking great, quite happy with that. Here's looking nice and messy. I'm just gonna tighten up a few things, and then I'm going to add a background. So on the background, I'm cheating my color and then on a new layer, I'm just gonna add, that's how does that look? 6. Practice Painting Eyes: on a new sheet, you can practice painting in the eye and follow this video. We're going to draw the eye, the eyes almond shaped just going to do that. But from now, Onda, we are going to put a little mark under the eye. That's where the eyelashes are and the eye lid above the top and your eyebrow. This is all done on one layer. Andare painting is going to be happening on the bottom there. I'm just adding in the Oppel and I'm on a new layer now. I'm just taking my doc's couldn't turn, and I'm just shading in. I'm gonna keep working on this throughout this lesson on building up light and dark shades . That's what's going to actually pull the face out. Is this adding of shadows? So that's a shudder that's a crease of the island and then underneath. There again, the whites of the eye isn't actually pure white. That's more sort of gray color. So when you're doing your eyes, don't you know don't do them pure white just will look very weird. I'm just carrying on just picking out tones off the color that I'm using, going like dark like dark and just playing around on that color wheel, so just building up the color skin doesn't have one color. We've got very in very tones in one, you know, in our skin. So we're just gonna be going to reflect that, and we'll just keep pulling me out. Let's keep doing that Numbering about Doc, huh? That upper eyelid his skin's get quite dark. Now don't worry if it's looking a bit strange at this moment, as we progress, it will get better. So don't don't feel despondent, Andi, think or nuts? Weird. But so now, as I was saying, this is the gray that I'm using. C it's not. It's not pure white. I'm just gonna follow me. I just like that under the I. Leard. I'm just telling you that there is also a shadow which sits on the I. I'm just going to do the eyeball now. Doing it this nice blue on further on the edges of the eyeball along the edges is always dark. You know, if you imagine a ball and you're looking at at the age is always darker. So I'm gonna go dark tone to make it look around. This used you know, using shadows and highlights. Well, actually give the illusion off of it. Actually, being round and not flat, but I wanted to be flat when we're working with it. I'm just going to carry on building manner myself. I don't like seeing lines. I try and blend them away wherever I can. I'm just gonna go over that now with the doc Dark, Really dark plea. It's gonna get around the eye and, you know, go. What's a dark gray along the bottom off the island, this is with shadow is I mean, if you look at your eye, you'll see the same thing. It's always the We're just going to keep defining the island as we go along the crease. It's just a case of just continually building this up. I just adding more definition. It's lots of, you know, going back and forth. You look at something to in your picture, upside down, walk away from it, come back and have a look and see where you still need to add some work. So I've just got now with the much darker shade around the eye and the eye. Yeah, I lived doing that little black spot going around this top part of the eyes also generally in shadow. I'm just gonna carry on working like that. No, carrying on there, just keep tweaking. It will eventually just pop. So I'm just going to start. I didn't My color from my eyebrows. I'm not concentrating on I rise too much in this list, and I'm just It's just one block of color that I'm using. But you can, of course, go a bit further if you like, just still tweaking it, going along the bottom. Very soon, I'm gonna hide the top. Blair, my guide. I won't be needing it anymore. And then we'll just be painting without it, it would have served its purpose. I just still pulling out, look a bit more fixing up a bit of color day, and then I'm just gonna choose a lighter color. But I'm just going to full in and just give it a bit more. But, you know, the lack does catch parts of the, you know, just go. But much of it, you see, that's quite enough skin color spoon. I'm going very likely with my pain. I must tell you, I'm not applying a lot of pressure at all. So I've got rid of my top player, My God layer. Andi. I'm just looking at the Einar, just making sure that I'm happy with it and tweaking it with a very fine brush. Just finding our two little bits that I I I haven't done just going along the top eyelid and just feeling that in, Let's carry on working that. So it's a bit more shadow under the eye that I'm gonna add a spot of pure white on the I. I must just tell you that if it's the dot appears on the left hand side, off your right eye, it appears on the left hand side of your left eye. You know, the shadow must appear in the same place on both eyes. Otherwise it'll look very strange. So I'm almost there. No, it's not looking too bad. I'm just adding white to the eyes and finishing it off you get looks great 7. Practice painting a nose: come to learning hard to draw honors. And this tutorial we're going to be using procreate on the apple pencil. We're going to create two layers, a top layer, which is going to have our sketch on a bottom layer. Where we're going to be doing are drawing the noses comprises of three circles, a large to smaller circles, and we're just going to sketch all of these elements in not forgetting the nostril holes on . Once we're happy with this, we're then going to create a new layer and work on the layer below the sketch. This sketch is only just a guide, which will be getting rid of. So I'm adding darker shades off brown and this is under the nostrils. Andi, under the the large fear the knows I'm just working in the shades on. I'm picking up the skin tones, darker value skin turns, and I'm gradually building this up. The apple pencil is great. It works just like a real pencil, and I use the side of it working with light with light of strokes, uh, to create Well, I work from lightest rates, gradually building those up. One car were one shading over another to create a deeper look, so we some areas need to be docking than others. I'm going liked to dark, just depending on the pressure of some sort. So here I'm just I'm just covering this in using this method I've just explained, and I for the nose, I I couldn't live without the blending finger. So, you know, keep lending throughout the whole the whole election. If you feel you need to blamed blend, did the colors in and pick shades off the color. So the further back you go, the deeper the colors are the light of the moon forward. The nose protrudes from the face, the lighter it gets toe. The federalist points is sticking out. It is generally liked her. So you know, underneath that the nostrils. It's dark hair along the bottom part of large loss, that steer of the nose. It's it's darker along the edges of the bridges of the nurse. It's also darker, obviously the very top part of the but those is is much lighter than the rest of skin, so just shading it in, and I'm going to be just putting in darker values where they need to go and blame Ding again to spending it end and adding a bit of highlights. This is Novice makes the nose pop. This brings the nose out of the page, should get just going back, blending that been lending those colors and then not forgetting the little lippy to pee area, which sits beneath the nose of the lip. That's generally dark, huh? So just bring that in colored in looks. But if it looks a bit too dark, lighting it up with the lighter shade of the color that you've used Andi, just add along the edges off the lip PDP era with a very fine pin Mark highlights each line , you know, highlight the bottom where the light catches the bottom of the nose. The nostrils just had had highlights to that keep blamed ing. I mean, I can't I just can't emphasize how much you need to blamed. You made me too. Do this lesson numerous times just to familiarize yourself with the nose. It doesn't matter. Do you do loads of knows as do hundreds of doing nurse and you're happy with 8. Practice Lips: we'll be creating T layers atop sketching there on the bottom painting there, which we're going to do our artwork up the lips, Uh, not difficult to draw. The top lip is always smaller than the bottom lip on the top. Lip is generally dark. Her than the bottom up studies. There was something to bear in mind when you're painting, so we draw the sketch. Once we're happy with the sketch, we then go on the layer below and create are based color will use our base color, and this again is just take the pope with the pencil. Once you selected your color uh, shade using the side of the the pencil shading the whole, uh, the whole the whole look. And then we'll go in underneath the bottom lip. Generally, um, has a dark shared and obviously where the to the top in the bottom left me. That's also unshared. And if you're not really sure about that, you can always go back and look in the mirror or go on to Google or proper magazine and have a look at how lips look if you're to show. But this will help you. So we're just gonna go. So we just carry on refining the shading of the lips. I'm just making those, but smaller If you have to, just keep tweaking it until you can find a happy place for these lips. So I'm just gonna work that in a bit more. I'm gonna be pulling the darkness. The doctor sent back heart in a moment just and then working that in, sometimes just blowing the pick. You know, blowing them in jeopardy. Bigger can be quite helpful. So I'm just creating the shadow that's looking much better. I'm just adding some crease lands. The bottom look generally has more crease lines than the top. And I'm sure I've already mentioned that the bottom lip is generally bigger in the top lip . And the top lip, of course, is generally dark hurt in the bottom. I'm just gonna just put a bit of skin around it so that just so that it's not floating in space, just carry up during this, adding more shadow there, my foot and the corners of the mouth, something that up move. And then I'm going to do this little lippy dippy area between the bottom of the nose and the top of the mall. Just shape that in. It's generally but darker than the skin color. You just have to You'll just have to play and see what you're happy with. And then we're just going, Teoh, have another look at that. Just go in there and a few more bits of refining little movie, but more there. Just going around. Sometimes when you turn it upside down, you can see things. So just carrying on. Sorry, I'm just sorting that out. Just make it look OK. I'm going to be adding the white line. Well, I'm gonna be adding highlights. I'm gonna be a highlight in the bottom lip with white, and I'll be highlighting the top Look with a very fine pin, Um, just to finish it off. And generally, when I'm do the lippy dippy area that also has this very fine pin Mark Penn line going up each side, that's just finishing off lips. No, they curve there, followed the shape of the bottom of the lip and I'm just gonna do that. Mark Klein, I was telling you about the other side on the flip you dippy area.
