About This Class

Nurturing Connection as a Family: The Basics is a 25 minute class taught by meditation and yoga instructor, mom and previous 4th grade teacher, Sommer Maxwell. This class for beginners will help families to learn how connect with each other by helping parents regulate their own nervous systems first, then connect with their kids through a fun family dance or sing-along night. Sommer's love for sharing ideas for connection began in her work with teaching yoga and meditation for families, kids, moms and elementary school teachers. You can find more about her work at

Raising a family in a meaningful way is a collection of moments similar to a string of lights. We don't have to light up the whole strand at once. We can focus on one moment of connection at a time, even in our busy lives.

In this class, we'll explore how to incorporate moments of connection WITHIN your day rather than adding to your daily to do list.

One of the best ways to create a connection within your family is to make time for each other right where you are in life. Connection is made through moments of contact whether it be through eye contact, listening, play, mealtimes or even just paying attention.

The lessons and projects I share come from my time as an elementary school teacher, a restorative yoga and meditation teacher for moms and elementary school teachers, a family yoga and kids yoga instructor and learning on the fly as a mom of a 10-year-old son.

If you're looking for ways to connect with kids in creative ways, this class is for you!

Together we'll practice what connection looks, sounds and feels like and share ideas with each other through our projects. Trying out these projects at home or in your work with children may mean just be a subtle shift in approach or embodiment that encourages connection within your family.

Join us for a little connection and family time!

Yes, I would reccomend this class for other students So important points in here.
Sommer has such a calming, inspiring presence. She is "real" (realistic expectations and realistic portrayals) and her tips and ideas are so simple. It's an uplifting source of finding yourself, finding your kid(s), and ideas for a quick "grab" from our mommies' toolboxes! "Connecting" isn't something I had really thought about previously, but her class spawned some introspection and evaluation of those special moments between my son and me.
