1. Introduction: Hello. Welcome to this Garrett Ban course. My name is Thomas George. I'm a composer and producer and they taught thousands of students all around the world Music theory, music production. So this garish bank course is for anyone that's brand new to music software or digital audio workstations. Like garish Band in this course got loads of stuff to show you. We're gonna start off but actually making a song in Gary's bond. So I'm gonna show you how to record 48 software instruments and also MIDI. We're then going to look at Apple loops, arrange in exporting on the preferences. So if you're brand new to music production, you want to start making music in Gary's band right away. And I definitely recommend this course. Thank you for listening, and I'll see you in the course 2. Getting Started: Okay, So when we create a new project or a new file in Garrett banned by going to file a new the top left, we got this public box here. So this gives us a load of different presets to choose from. So a preset is basically just a selection off instruments and sounds that are already there for us to choose from. I do personally believe it's better to start with a blank slate and to choose an empty project. But I'll just explain what some of these presets are in case you want to go through and have a look at them. So we have keyboard collection, which is basically just a selection of different keyboards and synthesizers on collection so you can use Garrett bangers and amplify. You don't necessarily need to have a load of different guitar amplifier sitting to carry around the Marshall Offender off box or orange jump. You can just use some ants that sounds similar in Garrett Band. You will, however, need an audio interface to plug your guitar. In its on audio interface is a box that converts and look signal, So unlock signals was a microphone like this or a guitar a bass and converts it into digital signal so you can plug it into your computer so you will need the audio interface to do this. I use the scarlet to I to buy Focus, right? That was two inputs. You can use that or something similar, but you will need an audio interface to record a guitar, a bass or even microphone. Then we have voice. So this has a loaded, different vocal presets for spoken word Mel vocals, female vocals, that kind of thing. Then we have Songwriter, which will have some drum loops on, will have a guitar amp set up on also vocal preset set Up. Like I said, for this, you will need an audio interface as well, the electronic one that you will not need the audio interface because it's all software instruments or virtual instruments provided by carriage bands. So this is a solid blend of drum kits and pulsating, Simpson says here then, next this we have hip hop, so this is a mixture off drums on unlocks imps that we have ring tone in case you want to make a ring tone and going down. We have the tempo so This is basically the speed of the song. So tempo is measured in BPM, or beats per minute on different genres of music have different tempos, so hip hop music is generally between 90 and 110 beats per minute. Generally, um, the house music is 122 beats per minutes. Either AM or electronic dance music has 1 to 8 beats per minutes. Trap music, or DUBSTEP is 140 beats per minute. On Drummond Base is 170 beats per minute there, just a few at the top of the head. Of course, a lot more dramas on that. And of course, you can break the rules. You don't have to use a specific beats per minutes to create a genre. You can put whatever you want, but that's kind of outline. I'm gonna choose 1 to 2. So can you move this by here to choose our tempo? Actually type in here as well. The river tempo on ahead, so this you could just tap him on the mouse. That comes up about but 1 to 2 as well, so you can type in the tempo you can choose the key signature. We can change this once we're in garish bands. That's good to start up with the key. Let's just stick to see Major. There's all different ones we can choose well, confused. Minor. And we have time signature. So most songs are going to be in four for just four crutches in the barn. Four beats in a bar That's just a standard 12 Free for 1234 But other songs which is a waltz? 12312312 Free isn't free. Four or sung such as money by Pink Floyd is in 54 or take five by Dave Brubeck is in 54 input device. This is if we've got a audio interface plugged in right now that have one plugged him. So no driver on output device. I'm gonna change this to hates the m I. Because I'm using an external monitor using a laptop. Just a laptop alone or Matt book are recommend a select inbuilt in output if you want to go for your arguments, faced output through ordered or the interface. So basically, plug the speakers in the back you audio interface or put your headphones into audio interface. It will come down here and to select it there. That's all we basically have to do to start new projects. I'm going to choose empty projects and then just go down and hit. Great. I'm gonna change this tempo to 1 to 2 C major for four. Change this too hasty in my just double check before you actually hit Crate. Of course, you can change this one short in. Garish, abundant. All we have to do is hit. Choose this will open up a blank project. Okay, the next lecture begins. Have a look at the next section. And then we came to jump in, start making some sirens and creating some music. 3. Templates: hello in this lecture, going to be looking at a few of the presets for actually appear. Will me launch Carriage band? Some of these This is quite nice. You don't need a midi keyboard. You can use musical typing by him commanding K. This will appear so let's just close this night not going to save it And thats open up keyboard collection. So this is gonna have a large collection off different keyboards So here we go. We have a piano communicate electric piano organ Classic 86 is in the. Besides such bases loaded, different people drums, just keyboards. This one has kind of a drumbeat built in. Really, it's just template. I personally prefer starting off for a blank project. You can always choose instruments you want later. Rum. Yeah, it just gives you Mork customer customization rather than using their sounds. But if you just want to quickly jump in and make music straightaway, the templates or the presets useful otherwise you will have to go through and select the instruments you want over the library section over here. That's just a quick run through off these templates that we get worth carries. Bond. I do suggest going for all of them, just playing around. Get a feel for the sounds. One. My favorite things about Gary's band. It's just jumping in and play music to make music so quickly of loops recording midi, even recording audio that will be shown you in this course. Software Instruments: okay, so continuing on we have this pop up box that appears so This has software instruments, audio on drummer. So allows us to choose different tracks. Software instruments is a virtual instrument, so this is stuff like string sounds, synthesizers, piano sounds. And then we can play these with a MIDI controller on Midi keyboard. When there's little keyboards or we can actually play on our apple keyboard, we can use her Apple Mac keyboard as a musical keyboard, or we can actually physically type in the notes using the mouse, then going along. We have audio so we can record a microphone, and also we have audio for guitar so we can set up a guitar, a bass amplifier on GarageBand. Like I said, you will need the audio interface to do. This will come back to this a little bit later on by audio interfaces. And then we have drummer. So drama is where Gary kind of record lows of dramas, playing those different loops we can go through and change these loops and actually sounds quite realistic. It's pretty good. This is the way of doing if you don't want to physically type in the drumbeats or you don't want to record a drum kit. You could just use drummer toe just frozen loops together it really quickly and really easily. So for now, I'm just going to choose software instruments on. Let's just hit Crate. Okay, You notice all this stuff appear. So here we have musical typing way. Have virtual keyboard appear. Um, so this is the keyboard, and you can actually play these notes without keyboards over. Hit the button. A play. This note s will play the day who play day or plays a etcetera. So come play, uh, notes on here, which is pretty useful also how the pitch Banyan notice here, assuming a little bit. And then we also have a few more things as well. So we have something called modulation. So this is kind of the effects. We come out to the keyboard. So if we hit free on a Mac keyboard, this will be minimum modulation or completely off for have a small amount. Five more, six more seven or eight maximum. If you have a pair of headphones on now you're noticed that we have It's pulsating sign from left to right. And if we hit this button here will change to this kind of keyboard. I much prefer this one, which is called musical typing. If we hit the key command Command K, this will bring musical typing. So just hit command. Okay, that's open and close it. Or we could just hit this little red arrow here or go to window show musical typing up here . This will show musical type him. Okay, We have these controls down here which we call macro controls that basically control a lot of the keyboard so we can have bell. You can hear this a better bell signed trouble makes it sound brighter. Based, more base drive tremolo. It goes in there, left to right. Ambience adds a bit of river and then we have chorus gives that kind of Faizi octave sound on river. You can just go through and change some of these smart controls. This is car that the basics of actually getting started. So going on left here, which you have these controls as well, so have all different sounds. We've got bass drum kit, electric drum kit, guitars, mallets, orchestra progression, but percussion, piano synthesizers, organ club, electric piano, arpeggio to Chinese traditional legacies. There's loads of different ones here. So you actually go through and just have a look at some of these as well. So the best thing to do is to just click on the mall and just experiment and hear what they sound like. So I'm just going Teoh opened up musical type in, and you might get this pop up windows. Well, that says you have made changes to the current instrument management settings. Click Save as to save your current changes to custom Instrument. So basically, I've changed this keyboard sound This electric piano, Stan, I've messed around the knobs of change the sound of it so I could change this to the default instrument. I can change this instrument, so if I click continue it will get rid of all the new sounds off a click. Save us, it will save. This is a new sound. So for now, I'm not going to say that. I'm just gonna hit Continue. That's it. Commanding K on this cable to come up you notice thistle a different sound. So just go through all these. This one's quite fun Drums. So these notes on your Mac keyboard Well, the buttons on your mat cabled will turn into a drum kit So we have the tea and the wire high hats. These use open hi hats that I is a craft symbol. The pay is a ride Cymbal. That and then we have a few of the ones that a kick from She just hit the r button Blackstone there. So our does actually shortcuts record. So I have a look at that a bit more detail later on. But basically, if you want to record these sounds just hit our and that will record. Or you could hit this big red circle appear. Okay, so you have s is a snap. So do is the snare as well. So he is a clap debuts kind of rim shots. Let me have sometimes as well going along here from F two. No. So just play along. You can actually play the drums on your Mac cable. This is pretty funny. It's quite hard state first, but what you can do is you can just play each individual instrument at the same time. You don't have toe play. The whole drum kit had just played the kick drum thin at the snare after and at the high hat. You don't have to play all the one go. That's good fun to play. Although one go lows. The different drum kits here as well. Rep. Troyer up. Try smash. Okay, that's good from Elektronik Drum kits. Let's try this one. Okay, lows, the different ones. I'm not going to go through them all, but it is good fun. Just go through and test out these sands of guitar. So this meant to sound like a classical guitar can change up to, of course, with X. It's quite hard to do, but you can get some interesting sounds, especially if you don't want to play different. Too difficult to technical. Something like this is manageable on the musical typing keyboard. Of course, if you do have a MIDI keyboard or MIDI control upon those little keyboards, plug in via USB, and it should just sync up automatically. A few different one hard rock. So this obviously going to bay some distorted? Okay, Percussion lows, the stuff Studio Latin. Sometimes you have to change the operatives to get the sounds up, because the don't have sounds in every single note on the octave. Just be careful. That's especially the drums. You might have to go through the octave to find where they are. Piano. Okay, that's emphasizes. There's loads had to choose from. Got a new kind e g M ones. When I first started using GarageBand a long time ago, it didn't look like this interface has got a lot cleaner and looks a lot more professional now. So let's try chimes well on. Changed a lot of these symptoms as well. They do sound a lot better now. I've got leave pad. It is part down here as well, so you can see for just Suman changes the different sounds. A lot of bright filter mod de tune. It's movement. Head out the way thin soft phase of replacing the signs. You can just move this along. We've got DeLay and peak filter as well. So if you want to send this a bit out of two people on to Tune Way could choose fading LFO . It's low frequency oscillators that's kind of pulsating. Sound, right? Delay. Fickett want a chunkier, sound soft, thin filter mark? We can change this delay as well. On the peak filter. That's good fun as well. And so there's loads of different symptoms as well. Pad rhythmic strings, lows of interesting sound organs, arpeggio later. So on page eight are where it plays through the different notes. So if we just choose, let's say since basic, this will be in our pejeta. And also this message will pop up if unless we select this. So if it's let this person here do not show this message again, it won't come up again. This message basic means I've moved that simple round of change the sound Do you want to save the settings or just leave it as it waas? So if I hit, continue or just leave it as it wasif hit save as it will save the settings that I've actually changed, I'm just going to hit, Continue leave as it waas you can him hit? I'm hitting one note there. It's just repeating that night for hit hold two notes will go through the two notes. Free notes. Full nights, five nights. That's one harp educators. It just goes through the different notes. We've got lows, different presets here as well. Jittery pulses. Let's try this whole down. A few notes notice of you went headphones that goes for the left and right speaker as well . It gets really interesting sounds in garage band. I do just recommend just going through them all. You notice is well that you can scroll as well down here at the bottom. Left between the sounds, you can choose all different ones. Chinese legacy lows is different ones as well. These legacy ones have actually built up over the years, so you might not have all of these legacy ones just to let you know. But the piano wants the percussion you will have. Just make sure you download a lot of these. Synthesizers are a lot of these times as well, so good to guarantee band the top left sound library and make sure you download all of a all available sounds. So I just do that again. So if you go to the top, garish Bonds sound library, all available sounds and that's basically what you have to do, make sure all essential and all available sounds. Then you have pretty much all these sounds that I've got as well. And that's how you can get started in a garage band. That's how you can make music straight away. This is how we can actually make stuff and just start correcting. You start messing around, start finding some interesting fund samples. One of my favorite things is to just find fun Simpson's player around with simple and just get some call. Sam's the next lecture. Making Music with Software Instruments: Okay, We're going to continue where we left off. So we begin to do now is just record something in notice this player had here this this line, This is where we are in the track and this has a time value going along. So on the left it will say 1.1, which means one bar on one date. If we drag this along well, actually change. So if you put it to four, it will say Bar four. Beat one because we have four beats in a bar in a temper of 4412341234 So it's 123412 I'll be here, says Bharti, beating them. Afraid so. Let's just put on one on one. So Bar one beat one. That means it's right at the start and the third you go along, we just go through the bars and it becomes further along the song. Okay, so all we have to do to record is make sure this button here is selected, which is a metre. Name a mention. It will keep you in time. It's also known as a click cook just to keep you in time. I'm sure you've seen them. The old fashioned ones actually have a wind up click, click, click. And then we have the countin So 1234 This will just give us four beats or one bar before we start playing. So we know the temporary No, the speed to actually record so we have to do is even. Here are two record or hit this red button here. I'm just gonna play something them. But the active down this active just could use the keys here on my Mac keyboard. So let's just play something in. The great thing about digital audio X stations is if you place him from wrong, it doesn't matter. Just do it again. It's not like you have to pay for the tape like the old fashioned days. You have to cut the tape out or put on the Reel Inn, you know, even paying for studio time nowadays, just doing on mainly laptops. It's the day and age we live in this so grateful recording music. It's kind of like a grid, so we could just move these and those that are not quite in time. If you have a look here, only thing we can do, we can just drag this information or MIDI information. It's called because it's not actually notes this information sent to the computer and recorded them on this information triggers the software insurance or triggers a sound so it can move this information or we can drag it across. Do something called quanta izing. So Kwan ties in Basic just snaps this to nearest grid value. You can choose the grid value here. You could choose 1/16. Notes. 1/8 Notes. 1/4 notes. One thing we can do as well as if we hit command button on a Mac keyboard. This will create a pencil tool. So this allows us to actually draw in some more and more information here. So hold down the pencil tool. I can put in a snap this will just create a snap. Signed. He's gonna get rid of this. Let's just say human again, Okay? So if I hold down the control, I don't wanna put snare here on that Say, here in type M. So now let's listen to this back way. We don't have to actually play the same weaken. Type it in a swell. So this is a different way of recording Music is to just type m. You could do the same or hi hats. We have a look at musical type him. Remember the hi hats on this t and this wife or close enough open for you. So this is F sharp G shop a shop. So if you don't really know what the Sharps means, just go through until you find it. You can always just clicking it, backspace to delete, and then just put it in again at the end of going to finish with open high hat. Let's move it up. Let's hear this back by hitting space bar. Really simple. I'm not even just changed this a little bit. Let's just zoom in on Let's put more of them in here. So we have a go free like this or could day? This is just how I normally like to dip. I'm going a bit too fast. Just remember, hit this plus button up here to create a new instrument. And you can either use musical typing on the keyboard to actually play inside hit command K . You can play in manually or you can play in your keyboard, not by clicking the mouse, or you can even just draw in like this, which is really simple. Now let's have a listen to this. The high hat should be a bit faster. It should sound a bit more bait. Okay, great. The thing is, I think this high hats a bit loud, so I can do just to ragtime all this well. And remember we talked about velocity earlier. So if a lot its velocity is how hard the notes sounds or how hard that is being hit. So if we select them all, we can change all of these notes velocities. So drag all the high huts down. But we have to do is hit this velocity bar down here 77. At the moment, that's changes to about 40. Let's hear this back. I still think it's too hard. Let's bring it down even further. 2 16 Okay, let's put this snares up. But higher. We can do as well as add on another snacks if you hold on. Hold, clap. Ok, Okay. Great. And then we could just use this loop function here. I never got a beat. We've got keyboard sound a baseline and we got a drum kit. Now we've got that pulse that kick drum. Let's just turn the velocity up for this. It's now we select the kick, the velocities up. You can tell because of lost. Here's 1 to 7, which is maximum velocity. So now we've got a kick, which is the pulse it's blonde to free for. We don't need the Metrodome. So we can actually turn off this match name by hitting a click button here and now we play it back, you won't be able to hear the click, because when you hear track back, you don't really want that being played because that can be a bit annoying. So let's play this back. Okay? Great. Changed in these is while we can go for and move, some of these about get a bit more river because now this MIDI data is in this drum kit, we can move some of this data around to create something a bit more interesting. And this will also copy over the lip. You'll see these lips changed. Whenever I change the information in the main clip, it will continue this in the cologne, so copy over in the lip. So I'm just gonna meet some of these around just trying to get some of the bit more interesting gun really simple. Okay, that's that's what this sounds like so we can do just go for an experiment. I spent a lot of time just leaving drum sounds around just try and get something a bit more interesting because sometimes just a straight can get a bit bored. Now I think that sounds a lot more interesting. So before you record any kind of audio, you need to have something called an audio interface. The only one to face that recorded this microphone in now into another piece of software is called The Focus, Right, Scarlett to I to but the one I'm gonna show you in this example, it's a small portable audio interface. It's called the Shore X to you. It's a very small, portable audio interface. On you can plug in the USB, the back here, and also you can plug your microphone in here. I'm gonna be showing you with this microphone right here, which is the road. The end tg one. It's a shotgun microphone. Just go to show how to set up in a garage band. So the first thing you need to do is get your audio interface. Most them will have USB. It's plug your USB into your Mac. That's so I'm just gonna plug this in right now, okay? And now you need to get the end of your microphone cable end of your XLR cable at this and pluck this into your microphone, let's say and plug it into audio interface. And then you get some kind of lights. Most of them will have something called Phantom Power plus for 48 volts. This microphone does need phantom past. I'm gonna make sure this is selected, Okay? So not really guitar amplified because this is going to be an acoustic guitar, so we don't really want amplifier. We just want to recall the audio. So let's choose import input one. So this is kind of ah preferences, So make sure the output is set wherever you want to hear the sound from? I've got my headphones plugged into this external monitor. So next we're gonna have a look at recording an electric guitar, which is quite similar. Let's just record something new in once again, so select the audio slept input and then it's gonna record something really quickly. That's one thing, you have to be aware it's not having a gain able to relax. So about that, let's try that again. So don't want it to distort because if it distorts, will ruin the recordings. Always, always be careful again. Level. Have a small gain level like that well than to have bank gained levels that clips or distorts because if eclipsed distorts, it's not gonna sound very good. To be honest, let's hear this back. Wait. So the first half was fine. The second half was awful. Let's just keep that so drag it back, loop over, and now you have a few different facts. So I'm gonna hit this headphone button to surly. That's nice Course. You always have to be aware that your guitars in tune because that's slightly after him. Dynamic microphone, condenser, microphone on ribbon, microphone. So a dynamic microphone is similar to this one here, so it's quite durable. You might have seen the shore sm 50 x kind of typical microphone that people have on stage . It is quite strong and durable, so this microphone is called on electro voice. Ari 20. Just move this up so you can have a better look out. So this is designed for voiceovers. It's a very durable Micah's well is quite expensive. This cost about $400 but this is very good for any kind of radio work voiceovers, actually, very good Recording a bass guitar as well. Do you get a lot of us be microphones as well, so you don't always have to spend a lot of money on the mic like this. The other type of Mike I mentioned is a condenser microphone similar to this one, so not more lightweight. Yeah, it's a lot smaller lot. Finner. There's a lot more fragile as well. A lot. People will use this for movies. So it's a shotgun. Mike Circum pointed up. What you want to point to. You do need phantom power. So this was quite an extra 48 volts. So you will need phantom power to record this and never type is a ribbon microphone. I don't actually only real microphones because of one reason that really fragile. If you drop it by accident or break, I can be quite clumsy of microphones have dropped, I think all of my microphones before so I don't really want a ribbon microphone. It can have a very bright sound and come pick up a lot of sounds that can be very useful. But for me, it's not worth it, just in case I drop it so that the three types dynamic and then we have Yeah, convincer and ribbon. The dynamic Mike's as well can be used for recording, say, like a bass drum. So the real low frequency, because it can handle a lot more power, a lot more sound. The dynamic Mike's Yeah, there are a lot more durable than these condenser microphones. A condenser microphones can pick up a lot more bright sound that can be very good for say female vocals. There's just a different types of Mike. You can spend a lot of money on microphones, so if you're just starting out, you can get you a speed microphones, which were fined for voiceovers like this but wouldn't really use them for recording any instruments. If you're just starting out literally, just grab any microphone. If if you're on a bit of a budget, maybe start with a short S and 57 kind of the jack of all trades, Microphone will cost you about $100. Or you could have sure, sm 58. But that's more for life performance. Yeah, one, Mike Shure sm, 57 recommends. For singer songwriters, that's fine. It picks up vocals, fine picks up guitar, fine convict drums and percussion. Fine wouldn't really use it for picking up, say, a bass drum. But if you just starting out and Gary when you probably won't be recording a full drum kit to start with, so if you want, do the voiceovers I recommend getting a dynamic might like this one. This one can be fined voiceovers to, but really depends on your budget. I don't really recommend you any microphones because you can't spend hundreds, even thousands of pounds of microphones. If you're just starting out making music, you do want to record any kind of vocals or any instruments would start up with a reasonably cheap price. One. I did like the shore s and 57 still about $100 but for a moderate price one, I think you can't go wrong with that. So do you get people ask me all the time. Which microphone do you recommend Andi for? What's your budget? What you want to record that's more the question. So for a high end budget will get stuff like a 414 which is amazing, but we'll cashew about $1000. Well, for voice overs, one that desperate like a cell, is about $400 or so, maybe more. But just don't have a look at the shore s n. 57. So this let's just just quick one about microphones, just to tell you the three different types dynamic, the more durable one's stronger ones condenses, which can cost a lot more money also, but not a lot brighter. Convictable that more sound and ribbon, which are very bright as well, but they're very fragile. Which is why I don't have any. So thank you for this lecture, and I'll see you in the 9. The Interface: Hello, it's Thomas George, and now we're going to continue looking at Garrett Band. So so far we've jumped in. We've started to make music, recorded different parts, records from synth parts, some drums and also our microphone. Now we're going to actually have a look at the interface. So we're going to have a look at what stuff actually does in Garrett Band. So let's just go along and have a look up here on the easiest things we can do is actually have a look at this quick help. But in here. So if you have a look at this, this will actually just tell us what's going on. So it's his question mark up here. And if you'll notice lows, the stuff appear up here. So when quick help buttons on you can see we've got the sound library just down here. So this is a sound library. It tells us loads of different things that's going on. This is really useful. If you're just starting out on Gary's Bond, hit this quick help, but not here. And it's how you lows the stuff. So we have the transport control, which is this stuff over here. So the transport control is play bottom. Going back to the beginning. Fast forward rewind record on cycle buttons the cycle. But in actually turns this on a rough or we can actually use the key command. See safe, oppress. See, this will turn the cycle button on the rough going along. We have lows, more stuff as well. We have their temporary display. So this is It tells us to temper the track. The minutes 1 to 2, which means 120 beats per minute. So more minute, maybe 122 clicks or beats. Then we have the beat position. So this really tells us where we are. So move this over to, say five. This is Bar five. Beat one on when we're in the key signature off 44 Like we are here with the four on the four. This means there are four beats in a bar and this is about five feet one. So if move it slightly ever concedes beat two and again be free and before and then tow bar six. Then we have the key signature the moment. See, Major, choose whatever key signature you want. If you just starting out. I recommend just sticking with C Major to start with just because it's just the white notes on the keyboard. It's just really easy to follow. We've got a few of things here, have beats on projects. This shows us the beats on the projects in this LCD display. If we change this to beats in time, it would give us a time as well. I quite like having the beats in time. To be honest is good to know how long you want song. It doesn't really matter how long you have a song, but you might want to say for your for minutes song you can see where about you are Then we have beats, so this literally just soldiers the beats up here. You can change it to time. Generally you will want to know the time and the beats. But if you make in a film music and have a certain time point, all you need is the time you can change just by hitting this arrow button here a few other things as well. We have the tuna button so you can use this to tune your instruments to computer. So what you will need to connect this with no audio interface. You can plug in instruments to that and you contribute of that. Then we have the count in button. So this basically allows us to count in our on our track. Let's just change this back to beats on project so counted if we're recording, Ideally, you want to want to free four before we start. So we know when to start and we kind of get the tempo off the groove as well. So I always leave the counting button turned on. Then we have the metronomic or click depending what you call it. If you have a strong pulse from the drums, you don't necessarily need the Metrodome switch done. But if you don't have any drums record, then yet I definitely recommend leaving the Metro. I'm on the metro. They can get a bit annoying after a while. So you generally, when I've got a groove going in the song, I do turn the match name off. Okay. And then we have here the master volume slides. This changes the master volume. I really don't wanna over zero D, because over is already being might distort in clip. I generally like to have the master volume just locked on zero db and then I 10 individual track star in rather than just in the master personally, that's how I like to do it. Let's say you've got a track complete. It just needs a boost. The volume you can always boost up the master or just 10 it down. But generally I like to control the instruments for him over here. So here we have the volume Sliders, beach instruments. And then we have Ellen, are So this is the pan where we want the other instrument in a left or right speaker or left or right? Headphone says could be called the pan or the balance knob. Then we have this speaker headphone, which is a solo button. So this will play just this track way rest. Okay, Going along here, we have the catch button that looks a bit like a martini glass. So this really allows you to see your arrangement view actually go through the track. So if you're playing through and say, you get into a one minute, if you have this button selected, it'll just go through where you are. So it says here, keep the player had visible as a project place. So basically, you get to see this visible the whole time. When the project plays For now, this isn't really relevant because we've only got four bars. But when we start to build up more tracks, more parts, you might want to catch button turned up. Okay, we can add a new track by hitting this plus button here, and we do have the track selection here. New track. You cannot use the short cuts as well, so you can use the key commands Holt Command. And so do that that a new track as well We could just hit this plus button here. So all command and or the plus button that allows you to add a new track. This is really just the basics off the interface of God. Fun band is quite simple. It's quite easy to do. It's just know what this stuff does really in just memorizing somebody short cause if you go up here, you see, you have these different shortcuts undo command Z cut command, ex cetera. I'm not going to go through them all because I have quite few. Just remember, the most important ones mainly is their command desk for safe shift commanders for save as Andi Yeah, commands that from do. They're kind of the main ones really offer record, see for cycle. That's basically it. So we can turn off this quick help on if we want. If your brand you recommend us leaving this on just tells you what's actually going on in there just here we have the note pad button. So this is Yeah, a note particle on a odd. And then, like I said before going down, we have these control buttons of, ah, macro displays That gives us a lot of easy options. We can change really quickly. Okay? Want to edit the MIDI click on MIDI, and it really just changes toe what type of instrument you have. So, for example, right now we have, ah, audio selected, which is in Green Midi, which is in so agreed and audio, which is in blue. I mean you to select between the both and use editor here, but we have to make sure this says it'll is selected to turn on the editor. Like I said, it's just a quick overview off the interface off courage buns. Like I said, if you are brand new, make sure you just hit this quick help bottom. And when it selected yellow, just tell you what's going on is really handy. The design, it's really well, so you just know what's going on the whole time. Then you get the lips of a loaded for the we can choose genre. So, for example, electronic choose. Let's turn off this quick help. But, um, by hitting this question mark of a circle and then we can go through choose genres here the extra reset instruments, piano genre moods. So now we've selected a piano with genre urban moods grieving, so we have five different samples, we can choose sharp piano been ingredient To me. This sounds like a piano urban and grieving. So in garish band, we've got lows and loops on the right hand side here. You can actually go through and just collect some of them and see which ones we like. They're actually all royalty free. So you can just select free news, any of them in any way, shape or form in some of our tracks up here as well. We have this little area where we can actually go through and select some of the loops. So let's click on Instrument to start with, and that's choose percussion. And here we have all the percussion. So we just go through, have a listen to some of this. You can narrow it down even further by hitting tambourines. Click it again to close it shaker, Click it again to put it back. Conga. Hm? Bungei. Okay, You want to go back with all we have to his hit percussion again that reset this screen here. Let's try piano news any of these loops? One thing to mention is the loops that have green next to them are midi loops on the ones that have blue next time or audio loops. So many loops means you could basically change the notes around. I have been collected them over the years because I do use logic pro as well. And some of these loops are using logic pro as well as Garrett Band. Okay, we have this button here as well. It allows us to actually cough. Look at that. The loops in a different way. So let's just zoom in here on this button here, which has changed the way the loop library looks. So here we have genres, instruments, mood. So you can go for, like, this way. I personally prefer this button clicking. Wait, it seems a lot easier today. We call. So have this heart button here. So if you choose this, we can go through and actually select our favorites. I haven't actually selected any is favorites yet. So say this uplifting distributor. I could hit this button here which make it favor a favorite. And I want to hit this hard, but in here you'll have my favorite. So you can actually select your favorites because I think about this is just so many different leaps here. It's good to choose some favorites to hit the X to go back. So I recommend going through, have a listen to lows of them on. Just select them as your favorites and then you can actually quickly find them steps searching through all these tons of loops.
