Maurizio De Angelis was born in Rome and grew up surrounded by some of Europe’s most celebrated art and architecture.

It is little wonder that he went on to study Fine Art, specialising in traditional painting, at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Rome and in Florence.

Living in London (UK) since 2004, he works as a 3D modeller and scientific illustrator, creating digital contents for the media and publishing industries.

His work has appeared in films, TV commercials, books and journals for a wide range of clients. 

Alongside his career as an illustrator, Maurizio continues to paint, taking private commissions for portraits using oil paint on wooden panels.

1. Presentation: in these schools will prepare a campus planning from scratch. Preparing a campus from scratch is a beautiful and intimate way to connect to the painting that we're going to make, and I always prepared supports for my paintings. My name is Mauricio de Angelis, and I'm, a traditional and digital artist based in London, have been painting in oil for more than 25 years now, concentrating on realistic portraiture as sea life painting. Mounting Canvas to Panel: If we want to mount a canvas toe a panel, we need to decide which panel we're going to use. It can be any wooden board as long as the surface is flat. I normally use on MDF panels, which is different here. I m the officer quite cheap and affordable. Wooden board, many using construction. If we put some blue in the panel and then stick the campus to it, and if we leave it over night with some books on top, the wrinkles would probably go. But because I like to do things, probably I'm going to iron the canvas at the end of the day is just a piece of fabric. So it's a cloth, basically, so our yearnings no harm. I can also do a bill on the other side. They now look better. And to be honest, I feel better as well. I'm more confident. I think it's fair to do this. Take some time to settle, so if you place it wrongly, you can kind of remove it and reapply. If you put too much glue, it would transpire. Will penetrate the fire best. It's not big issue, but that's why you don't want to put too much blue. I just want to reinforce, decide and moldy actually, the bed. Now I'm going to wash the spatula and remove the excess glue. And when it's try, I want to press it against the MDF beat more, so I'm super sure e ideas. Well, this is done. Now if you leave it for about five minutes, so superficial blues probably dry. I normally play some paper or newspaper, and then you can take some heavy books. And because I'm also a medical illustrator, have got this beautiful collection of anatomical publicists. We have now two panels treated in the very same way for the panel on the left. We're going to use liquid. It's clear, Jess. Oh, and for the panel on the right, a traditional Windsor in new toe white. Just primer. We're going to use a large flat brush for the clear Jessa and the roller for the primer. In the next lesson, we're going to start from the traditional just so fast. 3. Applying Traditional Gesso Primer: in this lesson, we're going to apply a traditional just so primer from wind zone. Using these kind of justice is the one that is normally applied to canvas. So if you go to an art shop and see a white canvas, it means that has been prime with this kind of just so I normally use a plastic plate and a spoon and with the brush, also prime the sides off the panel. And I do that to protect the panda itself from moisture, but also for consistency, as if I a private the top is going to probably sides as well. - Then I put a generous amount of just on the plate, just so it tends to dry quickly. So don't living for too long that we rode the roller, make sure justice covering the roller evenly. We simply apply a fast coat. You have to press the roller against the panel as the campus is not smooth. So you want the gesture to penetrate the fibers we apply and be more Jessa, - and we have done with the first pass. Applying Clear Gesso Primer: in this lesson, We're going to apply the liquid. It's clear, Jess. Oh, but instead of using the roller, we're going to use a large, flat brush. So, using a flat brush, we applied a fast count. You can see that I kind of want digested gay inside the fibers off the campus. So I want to brush in different direction also, and I can prime decides us well, and the first coat is done. In this case, I wouldn't use the blow dryer, and I wouldn't leave it to dry overnight. This is because with this just so two codes can be enough, as we need to send the surface from one kowtow another. It's better to wait until the day after, because if you send when the surface is no 100% dry, you will get a different effect. That's the reason why it's better to wait. So, for example, if you have a fighter or print and you want to use this method, you would make agreed over the reference and then make the same greed onto your paper and start drawing within the squares so you're going to draw what's going on. Insiders lose squares, which make things a lot easier. Then we have tracing. You can trace an existing image like a fighter, where you can trace your own drawing. Tracing means that you're going to transfer an image onto your cambers or paper. This technique is normally used. You want to keep the surface of your campus or panel as clean as possible. And for me, this is a must. I can knock her with a messy panel, right, so we have a drawing down, and now it's time for an under painting. Another painting is a kind of godlike, normally painted with the same color used for toning. Sketching out an under painting helps understand what the shadows and dark areas off the compositions are, and it gives an indication of volumes and shapes. Once the under painting is done, we have again three main options. We can make up, please I or grease L Grease on in Italian, which is an under painting but this time painted in shades of grey. So using black and white oh paid colors. Otherwise, we can use or pay colors, but using this time the full range of colors we have rather than just black and white. It is used for adding or changing the colors off the composition and for adding details after several sessions of glazing, you would eventually are the final touches, which is about fixing things here and there, adjusting tones and adding final details. This final step is very important. And when I'm about to finish a painting, I normally sit in front of the easel and I make a written list off the details that I want to fix. Then the very last step is protecting your painting from the environment and leveled the towns to look all the same using a final varnish. And this is it. If you opted for Allah, prefer painting, you'd skip the glazing face and go straight to the final varnish. This court is not completed. I hope you guys enjoyed it.
