1. Why This Course - What to Expect: hi 100 books in the process. Pan. If you're an owner of active campaign or you're thinking of switching to active campaign and you really want to get a handle on the power that lies beneath that campaign, you need to look automation. This course will take you through. Creating automation is like the one we got below showing you how it all works. Harold goes together so you can get up and running with active campaign automation as quickly as possible. It's a good look at the course you see. We're gonna go through how active campaign automation start Different parts of it have to get one going lovely new feature called Goals and How that all Works and how that simplifies automation had to start the manually. Having watched them work, a few ideas are making a little bit easier to understand what you've done when you come back to it later. Um, automation recipes. So that's looking at some ideas of things that you could do that having a person for reporting and a few bits of best practice. So a great introduction to active campaign automation. I'll see you in the Q and a forum discussion forum inside like 2. Automation Introduction and the Automation Editor: Let's take a gentle introduction to automation on the automation dashboard panel, how to build new AutoNation's and how all kind of fits together. And then we look at each of those steps in more detail. So these alterations are currently in my demo account. The ones that have green lights are enabled ones that red lights are disabled, so if you want it working, it needs to have little green light by. This is my current alterations that have set up bacon salt by different but the active or inactive. You can also apply labels to things by dragging and dropping the automation. Say, if you want to that want to be an induction automation of that label, and then you could drag it out there and it would appear underneath. That's the scary three. Credit a new one. First thing you're offered is the Great Alteration Recipes section, where you can see individual ideas of things that you may want to use. We'll look at that in more detail in a later lesson. For now, let's have a look at creating one from scratch, so we just pick this option that create and off we go the next screen you see is one which offers you the opportunity. Teoh. Decide how you trigger that automation. How it starts relies a different triggers. And we look at some of those in more detail. You can have one must have none true as many as you like within the limits of the active campaign system. And to this case, let's do it based on the fact that somebody has submitted a form. So then pick which form? The choice here is whether it runs once or runs multiple times. This is based on the entry point. So if you have different entry points, this thing can be different. Andi wants on here doesn't mean once it means once per entry point. So especially means that if you sign up through that form and you pick once, you'll only get this automation triggered once for you, as if you sign up multiple times and you got that option ticket will then fire this alteration again. So, like I said, if you have multiple starting points, then it will. It will have different rules for each starting point here, then decide to filter out some of the people as well. Uh, I pick it taking here and then putting some conditions in. We'll just leave that as it is, I'll leave that as run multiple times. If they sign up several times for a league mega, I'm quite happy for them to this automation again. So here we are, within the dragons or editor, so you can see our start options. Here. You can add in additional start options. They have different things, triggering the same automation. If you add things in your two choices, you can click a level plus and then you could do something like on Notify somebody that's a little Send a message to me. There was a message in there that's gonna send out a message. United something else. So what was sent an email? So let's create an email, Give it a name is just used for you, and then it'll go off a little fire off the email editor so you can go through and pick and email and work through creating one of those. I'm going to just click up here and go automation back to automation so that it just leaves . It is. Draft will come back to that later so you can deal things that useful very quickly or something, maybe like a weight. So you can wait for a day or something like this where you can put in a condition So I can say if that person has a tags, the tags you'll see later on their ways of labeling people s. So if they have that particular tank, it's given us some default ones in there. Then go one way. Otherwise, go another seeking six create little branch. All these things are dragon. Drop a ball, you can grab hold of it and move it around. And then you get an option Teoh to move things. Either move that single action or to move everything that follows it or to copy it so we could copy, for example. And then we have we have another sending out off the same email. So that's the the general kind of, just of how how that works. Once you're done, you need to make it active, otherwise it won't fire. You might want to click on there and give it a nice name. I think like safe and that's it for creating your first simple automation. So we're now going to it in a lot more detail 3. How An Automation Starts: So we saw in the previous email that we set up this test automation, and I want to look at different ways of starting off the automation. So we saw that one. If you want to weaken completely that delete it on. In fact, when you had a new automation interruption on there to not have a start tool, so you might do that. If you regretting something that was a manual automation, the trigger from the contact details, which will do later so you can also add new automation starts in. Let's have a look at some of those. Some of this depends on which version of the system you actually have. I'm running a pro version in this demo. Eso some of things like the deal status entering a pipeline. The score changes on these ones that won't necessarily be available in yours. In issue upgrade. Let's just go through them so you can trigger alterations manually, as we've just said, which wouldn't have a start that's just done in the contacts interface. You can trigger alterations when they will subscribe when the unsubscribe, when they submitted form when the open emails when they click on the link really use interesting ones are when they visit a page. That's if they, if they're already in your system, have already been tracked or stuff of is a page in younger clue who they are, then it doesn't know what to do. There is a system for recording events so you can have events set up with some systems integrate with active campaign or fire events back. Say, for example, a membership system might fire back on event when somebody logs in so you can welcome them interesting ones. If they share or forward or reply to publicly mount you, can them again do something different? There really useful ones are one thing when tanks are added or when tax removed. So there's a really every quite useful ones. I uses quite a lot a za means of triggering automation. So then you've got some ones that are based on the CRM system, so that within if you've got the plus version, you can do scoring changes and keep a score for somebody. The serum version builds pipelines, which are a collection of deals, So if somebody enters the part in the first place through some mechanism and then you can trigger it there if they're stage changes or if you marked it as won or lost, and then you can trigger different alterations. On the back of that, they have a whole range of different things that you can use. The main ones you probably use when you first start are either subscribes to a list or subscribes to a form. Score has a tag at it. If you looked at any of the others, the integration options. Sometimes you may only have this the option of a subscriber, depending on how your integration works. Other times the A P I or the form versions of having people to the list can be used to that contribute from a form that's really useful when you want to trigger things. Have one list, but you have multiple forms so you can start different things. But still people put people into the same list. If you're integration eyes you to add tax. Then again, you can do that within. You can trigger automation is based on tags, so again you could have one list but tag differently so they can get different alterations , so that gives you more flexibility than just doing things off off the the one list when you want to do with things off. One less thing is you much more flexibility. So you condone even. Hopefully it's got your brain thinking about different thing toe automation. So you might want to create when you might want to create them the next video. We'll look at some of things you can do with people in those alteration steps. 4. The Tasks In An Automation: in the previous video, we looked at how alterations are triggered, and now we're gonna look at some of the different options. We have four tasks that you can add. You can have them either by clicking on the plus, or you can drag things across from the right hand side. So it's easier to see the my thinking on the plus, and I'll see wherever you click on the plus is where adds things starting a top. You have different options for sending things out to people, so you might want to send an email or a series of emails out to people that so that's the action for creating an email to be sent out. With the plus version, you can use SMS to send out text messages to people in both versions. You can send out on the mount up to five people, um, to notify them of something. So normally you follow that with a poor, so with weight, maybe a wait for attack to be added or something like that, so that you can interact on. But maybe you do something else with that that person or it may be that that's the last thing it does before it ends in automation, it tells somebody that's happened. Conditions of work flows these air really the nuts and bolts of creating something clever. Also, you want to have weight options so you can wait for a particular time or a particular tag to be added, and you can do a kind of combination of the two. You can wait for a particular tag for a certain number days. So if it doesn't arrive after certain attack isn't put in put on innocent number days, it will carry on. The conditional logics are to be out to branch the automation and do different things comes from an if, if else statement. Especially. Use your yes and no option, which is what you had when we set this thing up here. If you can do, try and make it as positive as possible. So it's quite common of seeing a few automation that set up with where the contact does not does not have, does not have a tag existing, so you've got a double negative, and that makes it quite confusing to work out, which is the yes and which is the no. So let's say that says. We'll just go back and have a look at the next things. So go to allows you to loop things back into other places. Just be careful with that. You can end up with things going around around, around around. You have to plan for it to find a way possibly to get out. Eventually, starting automation allows you to trigger another automation. End automation. Lousy to end this particular automation or end another automation. So you may well decide that something is now, you know, being overridden by that person's action and you want to cancel something else, say, say, for example, they have bought a product, and you might want to turn off the automation that's trying to get them to buy the product where pork is a way of integrating with other systems. So you, if you're compatible system, you can send information to it, say, for example, you can send them. You could maybe get them to add to a particular membership level or do something else a little bit more exciting than the steps that you've got here. Contacts eso. The last one is a plus only feature. What is Technol that on first allows you to create and manage to score for the individual. You don't get that on the basic version so you can subscribe and unsubscribe people. Two lists. You can update their contact details. Haven't removed tax you'll use. There's quite a lot. The contact system has notes attached to each individual. So which that's quite useful if you want to, just kind of had a little bit or annotation to that person as to what's been going on. You can do that as part of the automation. These are the ones that are really associate with the plus version so you can do different things with their with their task. That's kind of covered in a section on the CRM. So you see you got acquire a powerful set. A set of different things that you can do on the tendency for people is to try and do too much, too early on so bad yourself and do some simple things. Have a look at some of the example to nations that follow and ah, enjoy self with the alterations 5. Automation Publishing: this lecture is just a quick reminder that you do need to make sure that your actions are made active in order to actually publish them and get them working. You see this little red dot here. That means that one's inactive, and there's a couple of ways that you can make it active. The 1st 1 is you just go over here and click, Make active or you can also do it just before you save by clicking this option here are making active. If you don't do it, then don't expect the automation to actually fire off. 6. Goals: but take a look at the goals feature. Just got exciting thing that's been added. It doesn't at the moment seem to be completely complete, but what would is We'll go through it, and we'll highlight some of things that I think will probably change. Let's try and get head around it. It is quite, it seems, initially, quite simple, but it's actually very, very powerful. So previously to having goals. If you had, say, elite back that you were downloading, downloading, giving to people download and you wanted to track the fact that there actually opened the email, maybe they downloaded it and visited the page and you wanted to, particularly when they clicked on the download page. You wanted to really do something different based on that or know that they've done it. Um, you couldn't really very easily. You'd have to use tags. You have to use checks to see if the particular tag had been set on door. They visited a particular page. You have a little conditions all the way through, so if you had a long automation, it could have lots of jumps that caused things to jump around, which became messy, and it'll it really kind of unmaintained herbal. So the idea behind goals is that you can set something that has a condition, and when that condition is met, wherever you are in the automation, it will jump you down to that goal. Alternatively, if somebody flows through this goal, if the conditions are not met, then you could decide to hold them there until that condition is met. Or you can decide. Let him continue the way that those goals and also surfaces that you can use them for triggers every hour. Look at ad. You'll see we have a trigger, which is somewhere in here. This was the one that says Goal's a goal is achieved so you convince a minute goal has been achieved. You can trigger off a new automation to do whatever you want to do. Celebrate the fact that they've downloaded will send you a message to say they've gone on that download page so you can create quite a nice little triggers and other automation off the back of that gold being achieved. The other place that it will kind of comes out is in one of stats, so if you look at your automation you'll see that you'll get how many percent achieved aped a goal. Um, so it has some basic reporting you physical features, but it could again could be better to see. You know, if you have multiple goals creating a funnel looking west about to report on this and do some mawr. Um, interesting stats on it, but it's a good start. Other places you can use it wherever you can, in automation or in the listing out of contacts. You can use this this whole thing with different things with Have they achieved a goal, Have they Mr Goal, Are they waiting? Eso you concern here we were in the contacts section of the start of queries to say all those people who have achieved that goal going one in this alteration gold test, you see, it's listed. Those out they are would like to see is I would like to see certainly some when you actually put the client record. I like to see which goals they have managed. You could do that. You can surface that information by having tags that you had when a gold is achieved. So that's have a look at what adding one of those goals on the settings that you have. So it will have a look at this one here. So you give it a name, which sort of seen you then go off and cliques had some settings. Usual kind of settings. Builder. Um, you can pick whatever you like. Um, have options, whatever conditions you wanna have. No, that's the condition for getting it to jump to that goal from anywhere else. In that automation, you can also just leave it blank like I have done here and that achieves. They put the object of having just gold. If you run through it, trips, trips, that goal and then he tricks with that is that you don't have to look at these other settings. Those guys go through these. This is the condition of your goal being met. You can then say when the goal is so. It's looking that condition and basically saying, Ah is the gold below that the current context, current position in the automation. So it's just a little look at that. So if I have a condition here on it was met while I'm at this stage, it would jump down here if I say above. I think it's a below. It's a strange wording, but it basically means above in my in my recollection, If they were down here and you'd have that goal set as as their blow sitting, it wouldn't do anything, you know if it appeared at this point, because it's already past that goal. So that's one thing considers offset this one to anywhere. And then you have a choice of what happens if if you reach this point. Andi, the goal conditions haven't been met, so you can run on. Or you can let it say that it's gonna wait until those conditions are met. There's no time limit, so it will wait indefinitely or you can end this automation. And so basically it doesn't. It doesn't get anywhere, so that's quite useful. One. So you could combine the ending, the automation with all you could run on and do something like I've done here where you could say, Does it meet this following this condition? So saying has it has achieved that goal? Yes. Then I would do something different. I might tank them if I want to have a permanent record of that goal or I will send them back to do something else or some. The reminder to say you haven't visited the download page opened the email, but you didn't actually go to the download page. My stuff is fantastic. You really want to download it, so there's some a little options that you can play. Remember there you can have multiple goals in the same automation, so it's well worth playing with um, and then you'll see there are some new conditions. If we had, look at either factness is started. Look on here. If you have a look under the conditions which are underneath actions, you'll see us a new ones which are achieved. The girl was pretty obvious, not achieved, which is obvious skipped. So they've gone over that they've run into that gold point, and it's has continued. So that's Canada skipped or you tell them toe wait and then that's option there. So the way to gonna go so you could have some of the automation that goes off in, especially ending this automation. If somebody sits in that automation for too long, so you can kind of bump somebody out. But it would be nice to have a wait only for 100 days or whatever. So nice feature. Takes a little getting your head around how you're going to use it. Um, but, you know, well worth playing around with it and seeing what you can achieve. 7. Starting Automations Manually: we'll even example are how to add a manual process. Um, manual extra step for somebody else to do to an automation. This is just one way to do it was going to show you an example. I'm assuming here that you here's your contacts list and you made a phone call somebody and then you want to send up a follow up email to say thank you for the call, and then you want somebody else to do something afterwards. So this is a reason that has no hasn't have a trigger because that could be triggered by you putting it on the contact page. Andi having a having a manually having an automation that's been covered in another lecture previously. So this will be triggered manually. It would then. So the first step is I'm gonna send out. I thank you for the talking to make kind of email. I might Well, then, wait a few days. I'm going to see if they bought the product. If they bought the product and then I'm just going to just end this automation. If they didn't buy the product, I'm gonna then actual tag saying they needed another cool and I'm gonna send a notification email to that email address so those could be found. If you go to sending options, you've got notify someone you can send to up to five people perfectly conical. See, there's the message with a little preview. What it looks like that sends a message saying, Here's the details. You do something about it, that's the message. Then I'm gonna wait until that tag has been removed. So it's gonna wait for up to two days so you can do that by setting this time limit here. So I'm giving them a few days to work through. You might want to give that a bit more time. I see blank weekends. It wouldn't don't do that. You might want to give it more time to somebody, and then it's gonna either drop through in one of two times as either that I'm imagining the person is going to remove that stage needs that needs a call when they're done. The job all their two days are up, in which case it dropped down through here, and then you could see what's what's happening. I'm checking to see. Is that tank still there? If it isn't and they've done the job. Then that's great. If the tank is still there, then I'm going to send the middle snotty email saying you didn't do the job and I'm assuming that that point the process is over. So I'm going to remove to remove that tag and finish things. You might wanna do something slightly different. You might wanna look around again. Um, here, send him another ratification so you could put a jump in here jumping back up here, and that would just go around around around until you actually got some kind of resolution . But did you have an idea of one way of doing things? Were you involved? Somebody manually, but use specially sent him a message and use a tag at to keep track of whether that's been done A lot 8. Watching an Automation Work: There are various times when you'll want to have a look at what on automation is actually doing in particular for a client. Or if you're testing it, you can end this sort of several so their various times when you want to see what's going on in automation, particularly when you're testing it, or when you have a client to tells you something's gone wrong. Eso Let's have a look at how you can see inside automation. So if we pick a client like this one, which has I had some alterations working on it, you can see that this person, this one has just had the test automation that we set up Branom. It is just entered that particular automation. So if we click on the alteration name there, you'll see it takes us off into the screen that we saw before. And you can now see how this person's process through so you can see there added manually, which is what we did. They've had the tank, but on them have been had an email sent to them, and they're currently waiting one day, another stage here. That's really kind of what's happened to some of the moment. If you want to move around, then there is a later lesson which talks about how to move people from here into a different place in the automation. It's not an easy thing to do, but something you can do. The other thing that is, is that we have it'll thinking or saying Q. And says three. If I click on that, it will now say, Jonah, search into edit mode How much we can click. OK, so if you go straight into editing this automation, you see that Q as well. You see, you see it like this now we can get going to hear, and we can see for that. Automation is three people that are currently in that automation at that particular point. And the nice thing about this is you can then use this option here to go and do different things with them so you could send them on another after the tag at another alteration. Andi, there's quite a few different things that you could do people, now that you can actually see where people which stages people have got to 9. Automation Summary: so recovered the basics of setting up on tracking AutoNation's. I want to hold off doing anything, really with the automation ins just for now, because you need to know, understand tagging. And so the other methods that we're going to look at you could put it all together and build some great estimations. We'll give some examples of those towards the end. 10. Automation Notes: one of the really useful features that was added fairly recently was a notes feature. So you can see here got have attached a couple of notes on this one and a note on this one . Quite simple kind of process. You just hover. I wrecked click and notes put in your note like that, and they should note attached, so you can then click on it. I'll see the different notes. You can edit them if you want to get a different It's a different time. So it's worth while keeping these little notes attached to the different steps for several reasons. One is, you know, just to remind yourself something you think was obvious. Maybe in a year's time won't be that obvious. Why you did a particular step, what you're particularly trying to achieve with, say, condition All right, we might well be that you wanna put different things on on the next steps after these to explain what went on. The more you put in in terms of useful notes, the better. I would also recommend that you use the notes section on start ones to give a bit of an overview on reminder about what you're trying to achieve is the whole the whole automation steps. Or maybe do that on the first step down here. That that makes more sense. So, really, it's feature. The other time that they will pop up is that when you import on automation from somebody else, you'll start to see these notes as things are imported and changed, there will see that in a later video. 11. Automation Recipes: if you're shorter, some ideas when you create the automation, so you want to see what other people have done, then the new creation alteration was. It has got a nice feature, so you'll see we've done crazy thing to scratch. We can all see other options for had some ideas so we can never look at reading that one. You see what it does so you can explore based on had different ideas. So let's say, for example, Onda says, This one says this situation delivers content is in line with the product of contractors interested in begins with a part of interest being a playing applied attack being applied. So that's go through as steps of working out what that one does. That's brought that in its not to do it with their on automation. It starts through the automation steps. It's basically just asking you to rename some of the from Andi from email addresses. It's just going through each of the emails in turn. So there we are, so that's kind of what it set up, so it tag product is if they're interested in that particular product. So I see you have to go and pick your own tanks on dead it those thinking to send away for a couple days and then send an email. Have a look inside this. Email us if there's any content, so they put in some dummy content that you can edit play around with. But that's any use or not. Ihsaa. It's kind of questionable, so there's no real kind of some of these things in your mind will see in the marketplace, which I'll show you in a second, Um, that they may well have more interesting content into these really kind of placeholders onto showing use of examples. So nothing really, in this case that you probably couldn't have already created for yourself. And let's just go back here and every other on. Let's just delete that said that you wanted cluttering things up. Let's just go through again new automation so you can see a whole range of different things that they thought off for years. Um, again, how about how useful those things are? Don't really know. You have to kind of have a bit of a dick, threw themselves anything of interest. The other option you have is an option. Discover more recipes This will take you to a marketplace which at the time recording isn't available yet. There will be a separate video on that when it in their eyes arrives some which what? There will be free. So which will be paid for but quite interesting things on there, including a couple of observations from myself. So that's really kind of a quick look at the different recipes on here. Really, you need to dig into them and see what they sound interesting. Thank you. An idea of how to do things. Um, but the information really on here isn't that clear and useful enough to bear to know whether it's something for you without adding in and seeing what it looks like. 12. Automation Reporting: still in my life system. I just want to show you automation reporting. So again you get to reports, Click on automation. You can find a particular automation that's going on on there. You can then click on the ticket automation. I will show you the different things that going on. So this is fairly simple automation. That's just showing you the very beginnings of it. It sends out three different emails, and you can see the different things that happened. I've not got click tracking turned on, so I probably shouldn't do that again. You can see who is gone to him and it's gone to the open rates. I got really good open right on that. That that 2nd 1? Um, let's have a look. You can see what he does, who's contracted and from ways I mean who have finished. Honey. E mails were sent this minute Strange going on there, I think 135. Sure that works out. I think that percentage is wrong. Open rates and who engaged again? You can go and have a look at what those you can go off into any of these things that were clicking on to see what's happening at particular stages. If you click on any individual campaigns, it will take you off to a campaign report, just like the other ones you've seen in the previous videos against worth with exploring, having a good look around. 13. Don't Let Your Automations Get Too Long: one of the things you'll find Aziz, you start creating automation is that you have a tendency to just let them go on and on and on and on loan, particularly if you think of them as one sequence. They're several problems with that. One is it becomes quite hard to manage them later on. Luckily, now you can add notes to the top of things. You can least add some additional information as to what's what's happening to remind yourself of how it works. But one technique that you can use to make this look easy for yourself is to not carry them on on on on on. Instead, use the starting automation at the end of ah, reasonable block to start apart to automation. They're a couple of reasons for doing that. It means it does become much more manageable. You can see each individual chunk. You can also easily place people in a different point. So by breaking into three, it means you can restart somebody at at the second section quite easily, or the third section on the first section. So you've got much more control over the fact that its an entry point as well as being a separate alteration. I think a man with it now, if you screw things up into too many bits, that equally well will become unmanageable. So tip from from me from spending so much time editing, more complicated automation. That's where we're splitting things down and playing to do that right from the start. 14. Adding To Automations - The Right Way: one problem you have with automation is is that if you don't put anything at the end here, the very last step on any automation is effectively and automation. So this automation finishes. So the way around that is to use a blocking. Wait, So you put a waiting here 999 days if you want to add, do anything else with this automation later. So, for example, the hero set up originally is automation just stopped here because I hadn't written this email. So the effect of that is that people join on their stuck in that wait for 9999 days so they won't go anywhere. I'm now added in another email on another weight, so I can add further messages if I want. And what I now need to do is just edit this to actually let this email go out. So I just need to edit this to four five minutes. So anyone who's now was trapped in the location Over the course of the next hour or so, those emails will start to get out. It'll start sending out that second email and then we'll stop here so again, I can now add more stuff to it once there's all safely go on, I should then be able to delete that, that that state because there'll be nobody hanging around there. Just don't do that until everyone has moved off from that that particular stage, So that's how you doing.
