About This Class

am an award-winning professor of Chinese for 16 years at prestigious American universities. College Mandarin Chinese on Your Own is a language sequence designed by me that allows you to learn 3 years' college Mandarin Chinese curriculum in just 6 months while saving 30000 dollars of college tuition, based on the same range of vocabulary, grammar and situational dialogues. This sequence, besides the introduction of Chinese sound and writing system which take up three courses, have around 80 courses to learn 40 Chinese lessons (each lesson 2 dialogues, the teaching of each dialogue, together with its vocabulary, grammar and text) encompassing daily situational dialogues and advanced discussion of social and cultural topics, from beginning to intermediate and advanced level. This course is on lesson 1 dialogue 2 "greetings." It teaches you how to greet people in Chinese. You will learn vocabulary and grammar powerpoint videos, text practice videos and dialogue acting video. For the vocabulary and grammar video, I will lead you to read the vocabularies, give you example use of the vocabulary in sentences or phrases, after each slide introducing 7-10 vocabularies, (for which you need to pause the slide and flash memorize the sound, meaning and the usage of the vocabularies), the very next page I will let you practice orally the learned vocabularies introduced in the previous page: describe pictures, translation, fill in blanks, etc. You will do the oral exercise before I provide the oral correcting answer for each exercise, so that you are actively participating using the language immediately. Entertaining pictures will bring teaching, reviewing, testing and application into a quick succession that combines the benefits of classroom teaching, Rosetta Stone Chinese and online learning, and simulate the students-teacher interaction of classroom language learning, as well as the cognitive mode of immersive learning. Each lesson has two dialogues, and is divided into two courses, with the same structure. Learning grammar follows the same structure. For the text practice, you will read after me twice, listen to my reading and prepare to answer questions about the text before I provide orally  the correct answer. The acting video allows you to practice listening comprehension and speaking, and observe how the sounds are pronounced. The character stroke order document attached in the course project allows you to practice character writing.
