About This Class

As i'm fine tuning as i go and before i start rapidly putting out the courses with the new framework i thought i would share with you (as i know later on someone will ask!) the process i currently work to when i make a new course.

i find these quicker courses work great this way and while i can use this for bigger courses on different platforms with some tweaking this really only works for short courses because i tend to record in one take instead of recording clip by clip (which i was doing before but it never really suited me)

so then, in this quick course i'll through. .

maybe this will help you find your 'routine' and a better way to be putting together your courses. i know that time is always the main factor of why something does not get done so i try and give you an overview how i break the task into pieces that i can pick up at the various different stages.

1. 1.0 - introductions: this course is around 20 minutes. You will learn how I build skill share courses and the process I followed. How to use trailer to build out your course nights before you record using Apple's keynote to build out your slides for the course, recording the course with screen flow and editing it with the screen flow software. Later editing the content with I movie. Also gonna be making the cover artwork. The thumbnails in Camber. 2. 1.1 - process plan and considerations: my aim with these 15 20 minute courses, especially this one, is to give you a firm overview off my process. The process that I used to build out my courses building it this way allows me to pick it up and drop it at different stages. This means I can work on stuff in the morning. I can work on the notes in the evening at it again in the morning and pick different bits up. Whenever I've got time to dedicate to it. I find that one of the jobs come in or you're working on other areas. Maybe website design. Trying to get into a mo mentum again, especially for May, is very difficult. So this is a process that I use. I should build to produce a video course every single day, probably to a day, but at the moment is just not happening for me, not because of the process, just because of my own clarity, to sit down and record the slides process makes the process easier for me to pick up in stages. Like I was saying earlier. It means Aiken, write something out in the evening, sit down in the morning, recorded editor in the afternoon, posted by the early evening. The reason why I'm doing 15 20 minute courses is because Amazon video directors come out and to upload video there. You required to put closed captions with your work. Now, I don't have closed captions for my work, so I'm going to use red dot com to create the close captions, and they charge $1 per minute. So if my courses around 20 minutes gonna cost me 20 books, which is around about 12 or £13. 3. 1.2 - my trello workflow: So Trillo is great for preparing notes for your courses. If you haven't used trailer yet, you must get on it. You can see here on the left hand side have got this column on its for all my skill share on Amazon video direct courses. It's mainly skill share right now on what I've got is a basic template here, a template card for each course. Start middle and end. If I click on that, What you're seeing here is I've created up some checklists. Organ intro checklist Middle five and end on each one of these is a blank template I keep. This is a blank template. Obviously, I've got some things in in here at the ends. I changed these around quite a lot, but I leave them in the template because I want to copy them over to the next project. So I have this basic template that I just copy from. That's all I do is click on here, click copy, put in the name, and I've got another copy of it. So let me go through this one that I'm actually working on at the moment. So the skill share content, you can see I filled this out with the intro things I'm going to say in the 1st 60 seconds and then the middle five on. What I've put here is the two minutes 30. I'm trying to go for five clips or five or six clips that last 22 minutes, 30 seconds and then I've got on in section, which is about minute 30. This roughly comes to 20 minutes on. I might go under my go over. It doesn't really matter. As long as it's around 20 minutes, I'm slowly dialing it in to get there. The other thing that I uses labels so you can sit up here next to work on. I'm ready to record. If I click on labels here, you can see these of the labels that I've set up. Urgent Next to work on completed a bloated courses live ready to record needs info. If I click off this completely, I've set up a card here with a key to the columns are All I've done is added all the labels to this card, just as a reminder on if I share this with anybody else that they can see what the colors mean These ones mean that is next to be work on and it's ready to record. So I finished putting all the information on it. Doesn't need info anymore. It's ready to go. It means I can pick these up at any point on. It reminds me how far along I am with everything on. The best thing about these is that I can just take these offers. I go. You can see the difference here. This is 0% as I add them to the Kino. I just take them off so that I know that I've had them, Green Bar says. I'm 100% done super easy. 4. 1.3 - keynote slides in presentation mode: is keynote on on the left. Inside he seemed my different slides. These are kind of the default slides that I have. This is a video for this particular slide, so that's gonna look completely were. But the idea is is that I've got, like, this baseline template all my courses on I might change them around might change the background colors. So, for instance, this one put these text blocks in quite easy. Really. I use these different animations to build the different blocks of 61. Click on Play Press through Onda. Bring the very bits up at my pacing on the text becomes a reminder. You can make the customs lines for different platforms as well. So, for instance, I've got slide share at the top here that you made a very simple animation that that brings ups like Jen Logan. He slides on a click to move onto the next one. So, for instance, if I want to go from this one, I can just bring that up. I've recorded the audio there for that one. What else? I run through to make sure pacing is good, and each bullet point reminds me to get the pacing right. I've roughly know that each one of these will take me around 10 or 15 seconds to go through . This is how I remind myself and then step through at the pace that suits me. I don't have to remember, Notes the notes, a visual on screen. Yeah, And then from here I can just I can animate things. For instance, I've got this is another slide which just got movie in. This is the movie. Do various things with the movie. I trim that to where I wanted to be a considered poster frame for it. Dual the volume and everything start this movie automatically. When it transitions, for instance, wanted to complain that starts playing super, super simple, and I just find this process makes it easier for me to remind myself how to get through the course making procedure also on land here. I've got a slide that's already ready to go for sharing the course out. Of course, really simple. I don't have to record that again, and then I've got another copy of the slide show, I think on the way out. So it's a really nice baseline template, and I could change the templates to suit for different kind of courses. I'm thinking of making a new one for my small brand advocacy courses have got one here with just on animation plays the Mac logo on displays the animation on the screen, and that's really simple, reasonably simple to put together. You can see it's only four lines of code if you like. I've got a little graphic that sits down there on the mass market you might never have seen . And then I've got the audio, that place which is shown here. And then I've got this that appears. And then also I fade that out. So it's very, very simple to use, and I find that I can turn around thes courses really quickly. 5. 1.4 - recording full screen keynote with screenflow: according the screen, as if I was stepping through recording the course. I'm going to do that because I want to show you the edit process in screen floats. I would fire it up, press the mouse button to get it going. Probably wouldn't talk through that. But I can cut that out. This course is around 20 minutes. I could also cut out. My voice goes on separate channels and you'll notice that the Webcam images not in the right place. So I'm gonna be putting that in the right place in a minute. So step through your fellow. How did our blah, blah, blah, blah next one next one. Next one, you'll see that the Webcam images jump to a different place, so I have to move that in the screen. Flo. We'll start recording now so that I can play around with this video 6. 1.5 - recorded output from screenflow, webcam layer: feel like some kind of inception. All right, this is me screen casting the screen. Cast who? My head may explode. All right, So, as you can see here stepping through. So whatever did this is a file that I kind of get. What I do is I First of all, I capture the Webcam Chroma key That. And as you can see, I've got a bad bit on the corner here. So probably to re record this, and then the reason why I do that. So that's full screen. And you can see I've got a problem here with the borders on the sides. So what I would do is I would crop that on the left, get rid of that and probably crop that stuff off the rights. While I can kind of do that, it's also puts a shadow on by default, which I don't understand. Why does that? And then fast forward a bit more than it did under through distributors during 20 on. Then you see, this is the frame, so I would probably size that up a little bit. And I want to see when the frame comes in that so what? I would do is I would grab my webcam and then grab the corner on, shrink it down until it fit into the screen like that so I could be talking and that mean the screen. How cool is that, Right. So up until that point, I'm on the screen in the middle of Nowheresville. So what I have to do is I have to get rid of that is I split it. Do do, do do there. So I'm gonna spy, let it there by doing split clip, And then this clip is the bit that's on the frame onwards. And then this bit is just something that I need to move off screen. You can hear the audio because that's getting captured with the Webcam video, but you get the idea of I'm stepping through. I'm talking, talking, talking, talking, and then I'm still there. So I need to fix that. So I zoom in, zoom in, zoom in, zoom in and then we're stepping through stepping through Vega, and that way you can see where that is on screen, and that's how I do it. I literally cooked all of that together like that. Put spaces in joint things that I will probably rip out some of the audio and video chunks . And then all I do from here is export this whole screen cast as one file and then take that into my movie and cut it up. So now that we're gonna go to record the course with all the content ready to go and then edit it, that bring into my movie and I'll show you the I'm movie cutting up process. 7. 1.6 - chopping up the content in imovie: exported it from screen flow. Here it is one big piece into my movie of then all my changes have turned the audio down just not to annoy us. You would simply probably use this part. The introduction part on get a rough idea where it finishes there. Then do the next one on. Probably cut that there. And then these are your part one part two, Part three on what I do is a delete, or at least copy those. And then I will export. This might do a better quality full raise 83 make nice small file and that is my intro. And then I just do the other parts removed the other part. Save out deleted parts. Save out Super simple Andi can be done and turned around very quickly. 8. 1.7 - making thumbnails on the go with canva: so the final part is making the cover image the cover thumbnail for the video on. So I do this part last because it's just one of those little jobs tinkering jobs on my graphic skills are, let's just say a little less to be desired. So I'm kind of looking at making these later on. But I wanted to tell you about piece of software that I use. Called Campbell is fantastic because you can do it through a browse, ikan, do it in the cloud. You don't need a piece of software you don't need a dhobi photo shop or illustrator don't need a license for it. They got a free package. I suggest that pro the team package got some great features. If you're not using it already, you should be. It's a fantastic piece of software. Like I said, anywhere where you can get on the Internet, you can get on a laptop or in the cloud. You can be using it. One of the power tips that I will say about it is if you've got any transparent, PNG is toe. Upload them in the upload section into different folders so you can have logos graphics. Anything with a transparent PNG background in high resolution works really well, and it means that you can build your banners your thumb. Now it's really quickly. I found that cover images really make a difference of standing out and having grabbing attention, because people are browsing through the different categories, different areas and they want something to pop. So big text minimum amount off things going on on it or a picture works really well. 9. 1.8 - the round up: so the round up. I hope this inspired you a little bit to consider the way that your pipeline process works . Some people are just natural. Some people are just gifted when it comes to technology, and they'll just rattle through it in the Noel, the software and the hardware. But sometimes it's a time based thing. You may be working eight hour shifts, but you want to put out courses. You want to start getting on that passive income or whatever it's called these days to work digitally online and not have the time or not. Think you have the time. So I've tried to break it down into the processes that I do in terms of the notes that prep the recording inside of screen flow and then out putting toe my movie. They're all different processes, and you will take a little bit of time. It might be that you only have one or two hours at out of time to do it, Maybe breaks or you may be working really strange shifts. So this is a way of maybe doing that. Working on it on your mobile phone may be doing the notes in trail. Oh, and then picking up the video when you're on your four days off, for instance, and so I thought, This of time. What you have scheduling, building and creating courses around the time that you actually have and preparing things ahead of time just makes it so much easier.
