Project Description

Create an Original Wordmark for a Sports Team

ASSIGNMENT:

Round out a sports identity with a strong, original wordmark. This assignment is a great way to learn how letters can interact with each other and it's also a great way to continue your mastery of the pen tool. You'll gain a process for taking your idea from the sketchbook to completion and apply that process to making your own original sports wordmark.

Notes/Tips:

  • Creativity with your team name is encouraged. The example I'll be using is River Otters, so stop bein' so serious all the time.
  • If you've designed a primary logo and it's sitting around without a wordmark, there's your winner.
  • Is your team a baseball team? Hockey? Each sport provides a context, so keep that context in mind as you determine your direction.
  • Even if you have an idea of a typeface that you plan on employing/modifying for your wordmark, it's still a good idea to cover all the bases and explore what's possible in the sketchbook.

DELIVERABLE:

Upload your finished sports wordmark. A finished wordmark should include your team name crafted in the vision you see fit.

Note: Uploading sketches and steps of your process is encouraged because it will help you and your classmates see how your idea came together. And that stuff is cool to see, anyways.
