About This Class

I don't have any high-end software for making animations. even thou something like apple motion is fairly inexpensive it still requires a certain amount of commitment to get it working for you. personally, I like to take a course to learn a piece of software like that and make things to get familiar with the software. simply put, I don't often have the time to do that. I'm not in a position in my life where I can take a month out, for instance, to learn it everyday.

that being said. i've found for the basic intros, outros, lower thirds and hack togethers keynote is quite capable at doing a variety of effects and animation movements to allow me to make them myself in a timely fashion. the other benefit of keynote is it being a relatively easy learning curve, i picked up the majority of skills i need from just playing. i had a need and i made it. i've really only touched the surface, i'm sure you could make things really awesome with it.

in this course. .

  • show you some basic animation, build orders, making videos and converting to gifs
  • animated lower thirds in keynote to use in imovie as hd overlays
  • using keynote to make a 16:9 or 4:3 video for instagram
  • quick walkthrough how this course was made in keynote

1. 1.0 - introduction to simple animations: in today's course, we'll do a series of key note presentations, screen casting shares of me actually working as I create these different areas. So I've got different elements that I'm making keynotes. I want to show you how I put them together. So I'm gonna show you some basic animation on basic order, layering on how you can use it to make videos and convert them to gifts. Also gonna be making some animated lower thirds and showing you how to set the background to green Remove that green in something like I movie. These are all free tools, by the way, keynote on my movie can get for free and pretty sure if the Web, if you don't have a if you don't have a full package videos. Serious pro package to be ableto edit and make your own animated thirds more. So gonna show you using keynote to create four by three file for Instagram and 69 using their tech specifications that Facebook ads also set. Because obviously Facebook bought instagram on, then I'm also gonna do a quick walk through of how this course was made using keynote just to show you how powerful Kino actually is. So let's get into the course 2. 1.1 - basic animation, build order: Okay, So bring Keynote. I'm gonna show you how to basically make some animations. Okay? So when you start off, this is a 1920 by 10. 80. If you go to this slide size here by going over to document, you can see customs. So I decide I've got this at 1920 by 10. 80 on you get this double click to edit and you get this usual slide arrangement. I just get rid of these on. Let's animate something. So let's bring in a piece of media. Let's have this bring this picture. Do that. Okay, So going into the middle, what I try and do is move it around until you see these yellow lines. That means it's horizontally and vertically aligned in the middle. We can also do zoom out to bring it full size. So this is the in 1920 by 10 80 windows. So that is smack bang in the middle. If I want to animate this, then I can just click on it. Goto animates. Now here you have three columns, build in action and build out. So what I want to do is I want to go to add an action on. I'm gonna do something like drop and see Just drops it in. This is the duration field underneath. You could do this to make it faster or slower. Maybe you want to bring in really slow and bounce it like that. We're gonna do it really fast. You want to start to learn how to use the build order. Now, the build order is this button at the bottom. When you click it, you get this extra box that pops up Now on here, you can see that this is my image. You can see that I've got these effects that I can change it to. I can change its that it it fades and scales instead. Or I can do a flipper. I could do like a cube. This is the building action If I want to do certain things when it's actually finished Also , by the way, if I click on play, what will happen is that at the minute nothing will happen until I click the mouse button and then the effect will come up. If I click it, one more time will finish because I have one slide on one effect. So if I go onto this, I can do after transition instead of on the click, so that as soon as I click play it will just play it straight away. And it played it that fast that you didn't actually see the effect. Let's do on Click on. What we want to do is also maybe build it out after a certain amount of time. So once we've done, I build in also do a disappeared dissolved. So at the moment, if I click on this this is the image with the cube effect. If you see it, the topics has built in for click on this one in the build order you see says, build out, Just check check in time and I want to be too over here. Now you'll see that both of these say on click Now this is where the power to build order comes in Because if you click on this and say after build one, what will happen? Is that what this one will run on? As soon as that's finished its animation off 0.70 seconds. It will then go onto the dissolved. Now what we can do is weakens, weaken, Delay This action after the build and say Do that after two seconds when we click on play here and click two seconds and it'll fade out. That's kind of a basic arrangement of how you do build orders. I'm quickly going to show you here. Would you've got all this effect as you want it. You can create different slides. Time to go between different sides. You have different animations happen and you can have this down in the bottom corner. This background, you could make it. Let's see format. I concolor fill this to be say green and the reason why I do that is I could then green screen all of this out and have it as an overlay. And then if I wanted to export that, I just do export to quick time. It can export it to full HD. I get a dot movie file once I've got that dot movie file and then I can go into my GIF animator which is over the top here on I could drag and drop that movie. You could test that. Gonna drag that to my GIF animator at the top You can see here is now converting to give test out M four v and I just click on def when it saved its two pictures test About what that will do is it will create each one of these video frames. Now I've done the scale here in 1920 by 10 80. Most of the time you won't make gifts this launch, but I'm just showing you as an example, very easy, very straightforward to build, to learn those build orders from just playing around. Just experiment. It's how I learned. And then you can start building up complex animations, export those as movies and then ultimately convert them to gifts. And you can use them for blogging or whatever you want to put on on your website or wherever around the Web, maybe on Twitter or Facebook. 3. 1.2 - making lower thirds in keynote: This is a way that I would make some lower thirds using keynote. So the first thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna change the color of the background to a green or have a particular green here on this is gonna be used for King for using it for the green screen for Jen locking out anything that I do. I'm gonna create a very simple lower third today. I'm just gonna put my name in here. Onda Selective Better fund, actually, more body out will also make it white. So I'm just using these tools on the side here. Okay, so everything is in these tabs on the right hand side. This is where it can get a little bit confusing. So you have format for formatting your actual slide animate, toe animate things. Document is the overall documents of things to do with presentation type. I'm also gonna do a zoom out ongoing bring my text on the bottom here. I'm gonna duplicate that copy control and see all of the on going. Just change this from bold to just normal. I'm just gonna say skill share teacher strictness down. Just get rid of this right click that I'm gonna shrink this down to 65. I think I wanna put underneath so you can see I've got basically a little bit just position and get it because I'm like to be pixel perfect about things. Maybe down a little bit more. This is my text that I want on my lower third to come on the screen now just to explain things a little bit. When we bring this file as a movie into I movie will have the green on it. We will have to select in my movie to remove it. I'm gonna show you that in a second. So what we want to do first you want to animate this, make it look a little bit pretty? Yes. I think I'm gonna move this in from the left. I want to speed it up. So it's quite fast said boom like that and then I can look at the build order in a minute. We've only got this one piece of text now underneath another one. So I'm gonna bring this one in at an effect on and we're do move in. But I'm gonna do it from the bottoms of bottom to top, and I'm gonna bring that same kind of time. Just do preview boom like that. What's going to the bounce off it on the bounce off it? I just wanted to move in. I think we're about off that one as well. Actually. Now, if we do a preview, you'll see what happens is we have that happen. And then the other one happened after it. So if I look here, I've got When I click on both of these build order, you can see it highlights the different assets on the on the page. So what I want is I want it to automatically transition. And I'm gonna do that after, Actually, I just do it straight away because I can time it to suit in my movie on then this I don't want to On click. I wanted to do it with the build, but I'm gonna delay it by milliseconds so that there's got a nice effect. So if I play this you see, it comes in very, very simple. Took me a couple of minutes to do that 1,000,003 minutes. T throw that together. That's a very basic one. I could also from here. Wait till they had pulls on the screen. I could do a build out, so it's to build out at an effect. Dissolve. I'm gonna dissolve that out. Most collect on this one. I'm gonna move this one out. I'm going to say, build out at an effect, move out top to bottom, and I'm going pretty fast. But I'm trying to get this in within five minutes and you can watch this back, I'm sure. So I want this dissolve toe happen not straight away, but after the build. But I wanted to stand screen for three seconds and then this one I want Teoh happen with that built comes in sides at 123 that you got. I've actually got the bottom on dropping out before the other ones. What I want to do probably is after the build like that, Then that should pretty much go out like that. Now that will do for me. So we come not to just after five minutes. So what I'll do is I'll export this out. So, export, it is a quick time movie at 10. 80 and then I'm just gonna save that out to my cloud drive. I'm gonna call it Green screen Lower Third like that, and then we'll jump into my movie and show you. OK, so over. And I'm movie now. Andi want to find a little bit of footage? Very mind whatever footage you use that I'm looking here, actually. What he got some existing lower thirds. Whatever foot did you use, make sure that you're using. For instance, here's one that I made earlier. If you want to do a cooking program Very simple. I just did a female additional features in there like put a little boy now, But I'll bring in the one that I made his the one I made for skill share teacher. And the only reason why I'm showing this is that I'm pretty sure you get keynote for free nine movie for free. And so if you don't have a budget to do lower thirds by having a quality piece of software to do it, this is how I kind of hack my love with those. Now we only need to there and all you do is you click on it, go to the top here on we are going to say gree green on blue screen and you see it just removes the green screen from it. And that basically means that when we play this video clip slides it over the top on, uh, then just fade out. Very simple, really easy to do, very mind that you need to have the right color. So I use white in this instance. But if your video footage is, for instance, this you won't be out of, you want to see the video the textural. That's not too bad, but remember the placement of way you want it to be. But what you've got these set up, you can just store them into a folder and in just drag and drop, as you wish, very easy to make in keynote. 4. 1.3 - using mpeg streamclip to work to specs: So for this one, I just wanted to show you quickly how you would make either a 69 video style or a four by three style from the Choose a theme. At the beginning, you can do either white or black. If you do, it's standard. That's a four by three square to do wide. It's 16 9 So quickly show you the four by three, which is the standard one for Instagram. What I would do here will go to document. It was the standard size. I would customize this and change it to 7 20 by 7 20 That's the maximum four by three size that Facebook slash instagram prefer. Now there's a document that you can go and look at, which is this one instagram video views on. Obviously, this crime was bought out by Facebook, and it gives you the design recommendations, the aspect ratio. But I've always been using 7 20 I've been able to use them as long as it's squares on this one toe one. Then you shouldn't have any problems, kind of like working with this resolutions will bring in video elements, animation elements, things that I showed you like the green screen lower thirds on the thing that we did earlier on, which was the basic animations. You could do all of that on top of this, export this as a video file and then upload it to Facebook or INSTAGRAM. A couple of problems is that you might need to change the format because when you export from keynote as quick time, it might not necessarily have all of these technical specifications. And instagram Andi Facebook could be a little bit talk about those things. So one of the apse that I use is a thing called MPEG Stream clip. So it's from a company called Squared five dot com. You can get it for Mac and Windows, and I find this to be my kind of cool kit. If you like toe to converting video files into different formats and it works, it works great. So, for instance, if I bring down open file and bring down, that's just add to get this green screen lower. Third, you'll see my greens green lines that here, if you go to file, export all the formats, then you get this massive list of things that you can do it in two different formats or you need to do is copy the former information from here, for instance, it says here needs to be hasty. 64 v p or vp A A A. C. Maximum size for gig frame rate from two seconds. All you need to do is you need to check that file is exactly the specifications that they need. Most files will work pretty straight off the bat so you can export it and upload it. Work fine, but if you need something to convert it, this is a tool for it. Because you can just select a different format, for instance, has do something for Apple TV. You can set sound you on sound on it on a limit. The data rate? Yes, so here's the bit rate here. No limit a bit rate file if you're using to passing coding as long as the folders that exceed one gig. Otherwise, eight megabits per second for 10 18 4 megabits per 2nd 7 20 So fairly straightforward things, but it's good to work within those limitations just to make sure that your video footage is the best quality and works across different sites and do check that out MPEG stream clip, and you can get that for free from squared five dot com 5. 1.4 - quick look at the course layout: don't have much time to fit this in with in the 20 minutes. More quickly go through this. So this is my set up inside of keynote. For my course. You'll see. I've got a blank screen at the beginning and I'll show you why I have that complaint just brings me the blank screen so I can get myself ready oppressed on the mouse button to bring the animation on. And I can just click on the button to step through the different notes. As I'm talking in that window on, you'll see the video. You won't see me on this on this particular screen, but I'm when I recall my webcam, I record it going to screen flow and then pull it into the area and resize it. Press escape here to jump out Now. The difference with this course is that I've set myself little reminders, but you'll notice that in the top right hand corner I have 11121314 on each of my files is Rina is named that, so I will record a screen cast like I am now showing you how to do various things in keynote and export them. And every time I've don't done those like I've done these three Now I just delete them out of this. This lists that when I come to record this screen cast after I've just recorded this one walk through, all I have to record is me talking through this section with the webcam and then the five step project and then the roundup. And then I just dropped those other elements in renamed them as courses 121314 on upload them with the group. So this is kind of part of my process structure. And the reason why I'm showing you is that is very simple to make your screen cast your animations your whole course in something like Keynote or presenter or prez O on be able to step through them just as on talk out loud and capture the audio in the video in real time by doing screen capture. And I find this the most fast, effective way off. Getting my course together allows me to jumping to any stage any time I want. So for instance, I just want to do the roundup. I can just click on play. I'm recording a screen cast. Now hope that showed you that you can really do quite a lot with Kino is that of learning a full package like motion graphics. And I could just walk through each of the different tiles. Really super easy. I hope you enjoy this course. I will catch up with you soon. 6. 1.5 - take part in the project: will you take part in my five step project? I would really appreciate you taking time to do it. Go to the project. Your project in the bar below the project on skill share. Put an awesome project title in the project. Worst based. Be creative. Tell me how you've used this. Show me some of your animations. Maybe upload a animated gifs. Show me that you can go through that process. I would really love you to be able to take this calls and then go and apply some that knowledge in making your own thing that you need for your own site. If you haven't got a cover image for your project, go to nomad dot pictures and gravel from there. Click on the save button and you're done. 7. 1.6 - the roundup: Okay, then the roundup. I hope that showed you that you can really do quite a lot of stuff in Kino on for a free package. It's not just a presentation. Software that export feature too quick time is really valuable. And you can do the most basic animation just to get you by until you can either afford to have a professional motion designer do your graphics, or even if you're just happy for stuff for Facebook is ideal for that. You can get it done and get it done today. With these tools you can pick up easily and afford. I think you know it might be free, actually with a Mac, and you definitely get a copy of I movie for free, I'm sure. So just educate yourself. Would you go? You don't always have the money to be able to have the best with bang motion graphics. And if something gets you by something basic catches people's. I buy the animation. This is a basic way of doing it. So I've sold ons used these services many times over on five dot com people just wanted a basic intro and outro bit of animation, some lower thirds. So people definitely need these kind of services. They don't know how toe necessarily make themselves. And that's why I kind of made this course is to show you that is very easy to make them. If you spend a little bit of time learning how to do the build order and the layers and the animation, the building, the build out, this is ideal for intros in our troves and overlays. Please take part in the project, loved what you make do. Send me a animated GIF, maybe attach it to the project. If you want any help with keynotes or even exporting or overlays or green screen, please just leave me a message. I'm here mostly on the Internet, for 10 12 hours a day working on client work. As soon as I see any messages posted, I will respond. That's watching. I will see you soon. 8. 1.7 - share, retweet and go premium!: while I have you enjoyed the course, Please share and review the course. It really does. Help me out. Click on the triple dot button. Leave a review shared with Twitter and Facebook. I'll catch up with you.
