About This Class
Hello everyone! In the first part we made a small scene for the world you imagined. Now it is time to create the inhabitants of that scene or world. In this part we are going to focus on the creation of at least 2 characters using a program called Fuse. I am thinking we can create some humanoids, elves, zombies, alien characters, etc. You can make these characters as elaborate as you want with the knowledge and the tools you will acquire this week.
I will show you how to create many different characters and since we are working with a 3D world. The characters are going to be 3D not 2D characters. Remember these characters need to be driven by the story or plot of your game. If you do that then they will fit if you don’t they will be out of place in the terrain you made in the last class. The terrain you created is the place where your characters will come alive. Is the world you made for them, they will interact with each other, with the world and/or other creatures or items you will eventually put in there to make a complete story.
*Note: As always don't add a lot of characters for now. Think of the story you are telling.
You will learn the basics of Character Design this week. This knowledge is very important because the scenes we created need characters otherwise they are pretty empty. The project for this class is not complicated and it will allow you to demonstrate and practice the concepts that you will learn this week. You will learn also about character texturing, modular character manipulation, and few other things. I will take you to the Unit Asset Store one more time in order to continue leveraging the power of the items you can obtain there for free.
Please remember that all these course parts have one goal in mind and they are connected, the ultimate goal is to have one scene or more populated with characters, plants, animations, etc. In part one we focused on the creation of the 3D world or location for the characters we are doing now. The emphasis in part one was to create a 3D world scene in Unity for a world or location you imagined. In part two we are focusing on the creation of the characters that will inhabit that first scene or world. It is important that things match the story you have in mind for that first scene.
In this course I will show you how to create multiple unique game characters. What type of characters you make is up to you? You don’t need to be an artist. You don’t need to be afraid. The tool we are using is easy and produces great results very fast. I am glad it is still free to use for now.
This is the class outline
Step 1: Introduction to character development.
- Basic principles to character design.
- Other type of character design tools.
- Create unforgettable & unique characters.
- Think about your Characters’ personality.
Step 2: It is time to learn the basics about the program we are using: Adobe Fuse Character creator. We will learn about the controls and the different characters you can create in there.
- There are several videos in the class about this. Make sure if you get stuck to send me message and I will try to assist you as much as I can.
Step 3: Create 2 unique characters that are driven by the story you have in mind.
- Decide the gender and the look of your characters for your game. They can be humanoids of any kind- monsters, vampires, normal, fat, skinny, etc. All depends of the type of story you have in mind for the world you have already brought into existence.
- Choose the body form in fuse, customize the body you have chosen, plenty of things you can do with the controls
Step 4: Dress up your characters to make them fit your story. You can add all kinds of different attire groups: shoes, hats, pants, shirts, etc.
- You can edit the fabric if you need, and refine your character as much as you want.
Step 5: Finally when you are done with all the previous steps save your character. You will need them for the next part of this course, in part 3 we will animate them using another free website.
Step 6: If you are still unsure about what characters to do. Please check the multiple examples found at the start and towards the end of the class. I hope you will find some inspiration there.
Step 7: Post screenshots of your characters in the project gallery showing your creations. Thank you for participating in this class.
- Head over to the class pageand click on Add Project
- Link to post your project to the class
- Write a short description of your characters
Step 8: Please provide feedback if can to other students and check their projects you might find something you like but be constructive, positive and friendly in all your communications.

I think learning is fun! But schooling has taken the fun out of it. I hope I can put some fun into your learning with my classes. How much can you learn here? Well our limit exist only in our own imagination!
I've been an educator for as long as I can remember. I have taught all levels, all the way from kindergarten to junior college. I have taught many subjects. Mostly in the areas of languages, like Spanish, Italian, French, German, Japanese. I am now learning Chinese, so I will probably add that to my repertoire when I have enough knowledge of the language. I have a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, a Masters in the Spanish Language and also have a Masters in Game Design, Production & Management.
At the high school and college level I served as an educator and trainer to teachers and students in the areas of technology. Adobe products, Microsoft products, and other technologies that facilitate learning and teaching. I have conducted workshops and training sessions to teachers at this level to assist them in acquiring the technology skills that they needed to become better teachers.
I started my own company called "Ictus Enterprises" in order to do freelance jobs in many fields many years ago. I am using it as the umbrella corporation for my classes here. I have been teaching using games for many years. I have taught thousands of students and teachers about how to make games. I have taught them all the different aspects of the game creation, character creation, animation, game dynamics, etc. My students have made 100s of games both on paper and electronically. I am working now on creating a set of classes that teach all the different aspects of the Game Design. Two of those classes are now live here:
3. Animation & little more- Coming soon!
4. Many more coming
I hope you join me in this journey and as always please let me know if I can assist you with anything. I am glad that you have decided to learn a new skill with me. I will see you in my classes.
