Let's paint some Loose & Sketchy Christmas Baubles - balls, ornaments - you know what I'm talking about!  

In this class for beginners, or anyone who just wants to enjoy painting and a bit of loose sketching, I will demonstrate for you 3 different Christmas bauble paintings in watercolor!  These little paintings can be turned into holiday greeting cards, and can also be framed.  It's a fun, and easy way to make some happy Christmas cards.  

I'll be with you every step of the way, explaining each part of the process, from tearing the watercolor paper, to sketching, painting, and adding final details.  I'll also demonstrate a quick and easy way to mount the paintings on blank cards, for you friends and family.

1. Welcome!: Welcome to loose and sketchy ornaments. Holiday bubbles, water color class. Hello everyone. Just so Cassandras here of color, MY creative art.com. Welcome to my lesson. I am super excited to be here with. So in this class for any level and for anyone who just wants to relax and paint, we're going to paint some lovely Christmas ornaments, holiday ornaments. And we're going to just really take it easy. It's really fun and easy. They're loose, their sketchy. We do learn a lot of skill in this class. We're going to cover quite a few topics. We're going to talk about how to tell your paper for stuff. I'll show you how to do that. Then we're going to practice our loose and sketchy pencil marks and pin marks. And then we'll do our wet and wet water color to create the lovely patterns and colors within our ornaments. We'll talk about light and shadow, will talk about highlights, and then will create even more looses, sketchy marks with our pin, will do some splattering. We'll do some fun lines. And then we'll put it all together into some lovely holiday cards for you, your friends and family. So I will demonstrate for you three different paintings and also how to add those paintings to your cards to make it a lovely holiday card for your family or friends, or even just for you to frame. So what are we waiting for? Let's get started by talking about the supplies. 2. Supplies: In this class you'll need basic watercolor supplies plus a few odds and ends. So first off, you'll need your watercolour paint. Now I'm using the mission goal 36 color palette. It's the one I recommend for beginners, but you can use whatever paint you have and any of it, any watercolour paint will do. Also, I have my metallic watercolor paints, which I do use in this class. You'll also need watercolor paper. So this is 100% cotton, 140 pound, Well this is 90 pound, 90 to 140 pound, 100% cotton is what I'm using in the class. Now, the main thing is that you have a heavy watercolor paper and also that it is cold press. So just keep that in mind, has a little bit of texture. You'll need watercolour brush. You'll need a waterproof pin. You'll need a pencil and a white paint pan, gel pen or goulash would be fine too. You'll need to jars of water and a cloth for drawing your brush. In addition to those normal supplies, you'll also need a few others if you're going to follow along with my specific projects. So you'll need watercolor crystals. In this case, I'm using Brush oh, and turquoise. And you'll need a bone folder or something with a solid hard edge. This is for decreasing and tearing our paper to create deck called edges. You will also need card basis. If you want to sit in these little paintings as a card, I have a couple of different kinds. I have the Strathmore watercolor cards, and I also have just some plain white cards that are blank cards that I can attach my watercolor painting too. And to attach that you're going to need some scissors and some foam tape, double-sided or any kind of double-sided tape will wear another supply that you might need if you want to copy, what I did is some clean wrath. This is just clear, clean film and I, you need about the size of your card base. So this is another supply that is a little unusual. I say that but it's not basic watercolor supplies, but it's often used with watercolor. From your kitchen. Ok, I believe that covers the supplies. So let's get started. 3. How to Tear Watercolor Paper: So I have my card bases here, and I have a couple of them, and I have my watercolor paper. And what I wanna do is I want to have this nice deck old edge on my card, on my watercolor paper. So what I wanna do is just get a piece of watercolor paper that will fit onto my card base. And so I'm just going to do eyeball it. You can't be very precise of course, but that's just not what I want to do. So I'm just going to create a small edge and sort of eyeball that make this distance about from there and just market and about the same here. And then I'm going to fold my paper on those lines. So just if it's not perfect, that's okay. I want to fold in word and I want to fold here, right where I have this mark. And if this lines up with this side, that means this card will be fairly straight. This paper. So I'll start there, line up this edge, and then take my home folder and just go straight across from it. And I'll have my first crease. I usually put the top side of the paper to the inside first. That way when I do this main scoring, I'm not pressing down the tooth of the paper because I'm using the cold press, right? So I start with the inside of the paper, the width, the top side of the paper to the inside of the fold. And I'm going to flip it the other way. And I'm a little bit more. Don't press this edge all the way down across there, just let it flow across just the edge there. And so I'm just creasing it and there are other ways to do this. You could cut it, but I want that nice torn edge for my card. So created this nice handmade card. Once it's nice increased, you can start by putting your fingers on both sides of the fold just to get us started pulling in opposite directions to get it going. And then you put it down and you hold it next to the fold and pull carefully straight up. And so I'm gonna get a nice edge there. See how uneven that edges and I like that. Okay, so now I have that piece of the card, but I need to make it fit the width. So remember I have this other mark here, so I'm going to fold it there as well. Again, I'm putting the top part of the paper to the inside and it doesn't have to be exactly precise. Line up that edge. So it's nice and straight there. And that will make this straight as well. Assuming your paper is straight on that edge. Remember, you could always just put some sort of flying all the way across and you can cut it and do whatever you like. But this is just making that nice edge. So again, to the tearing on the tear from the back, pulling that up. And we have two pieces. And I could choose to use either one, but this larger one is the one that I started with. Here. There we go. The great thing about this is when your friend or loved one gets the card, this can be removed and it actually becomes a little art piece that they could frame or do something else with. So it's a, it's a gift. This card is also a good hey, so that's that size. And I would repeat that for this same size card depending on where I wanted the paper to be. So I was thinking that leaving a space at the bottom could be nice and you could add a word or sentiment there. And even we could maybe even use the same size paper if you wanted to. So I would just go ahead and repeat the process with this card and I'll speed that part up since you already know how to do it, but I'll do the same process. So mark a little area for the edge. What are those things? Okay, so both pieces are torn. And I could actually could be interesting to do like a smaller section. So you could make this the correct length. And then you can have like maybe some, even some layers if you wanted to. That could be vine. If you made this a little longer to go to the edges. So there are lot of things you can do, but we're just going to keep it really simple and create a nice watercolor card. Okay, so now that we have our paper torn, let's move on to the painting. 4. Sketching Baubles 1 & 2: Okay, let's start with our small card-based and I'm just going to have to in front of me at once. I've got my brush ready, I have pencil and now just for the first step, use my pencil to create that loose and sketchy Circle. And so I'm going to hold it near the top. And I'm just going to make a circle. Now, what I want to think about is that this is going on a card. And so I think a little bit about where I'm going to place it could do more than one ornament that they would have to be small. And so, and they could go off the edge. There are a lot of possibilities. I just going to start with one here, again, holding my pencil loosely and just creating a circle. And I'm picking a sweet spots if we go by the rule of thirds. So we would visually just divide our paper in thirds. And third in that intersection would be our focal point. And so I'm thinking about where I'm placing my ornament based on the rule of thirds. And it's going to be somewhere in this area. And I could make a line going off the page. Or I kinda like making this little curly cook if you want to call it that. So that's one ornament there on this page. And it's because of my paper and bandit pretty small. Now what I could do is make a larger one or I could do multiples. Again, I could put it up here and instead. But if it doesn't have the little space that we might want. And I'm keeping it loose and sketchy, right? I don't want to be perfect, not go for perfect. You can get a pretty nice circle if you just do that. I think actually I'll do more. And I'll do one over here going off the side. And then maybe even here, one on the bottom. So they're not overlapping at all. Except for that. Then I see that this is going to hit the edge hears are probably went to actually just move that over a little. I'll just move that over. So that's what you can do when you're sketching and you're thinking about your composition. You don't want the lines to be on the exact edge because that's not a nice, appealing look. You need a little bit of overlap. So that's why I move that a little in, in, in doing that, I decided that I would just make my circle a little bit more that way. So I move the whole thing and I'm just doing the sketch so I can do that, right? And you can do this as you go. Ok, so this has three, this has one. And now with that light blue sketch, we're going to do really simple painting. That's a lot of fun, very colorful. And going to be practicing our watercolor skills. 5. Painting Baubles 1 & 2: So my brush, my paints, I've already sprayed with water. And I'm going to do something I don't do very often, which is start with wet in wet, getting my brush really wet. And I'm just going to paint water inside that circle so I don't know how well you'll be able to see it. And in this case, I'm not worried about it being like perfectly round or perfectly even wash. But I do want a nice little bit of water on there and I don't want it to dry too fast. So there we go. It is nice and wet. And now I'm just going to pick the color of my ornaments. So let's pick a red. And I have a messy palette here, so let me just clean that up a little. There we go. I don't mind if it's a little mixed in. So let's use a red. And I wanted to be pretty juicy and just going to drop it in. And I want to think about how there's a highlight in this area. And I haven't decided how I'm going to take care of my highlight. So I'm just going inside that color, inside that water near the edge and dropping in that color. Now remember it's going to try lighter. And that's perfect now because we want to have some, maybe some shadows and some sort of balanced lie in that sort of thing. So we're going to just drop in some crimson lake, which will kind of create a shadowy color along the edge. And we're going to just let that move and blend together on the paper. And I see that I really want to take this out a little bit more. So I'm just going to lightly with little water on my brush. So I'm tapping off my brush and then just pull that out a little bit just to make this more to the edges of mine console. And then go ahead and drop in some more of that crimson light there on the edge, creating some shadow. It'll be nice and soft because it's wet and wet. And we can even drop in a little bit more red here. Because as we as I mentioned, it's going to dry lighter. So. And leaving that area, pain is going to flow into there. I kind of want to just joined my brush and do a little bit of picking up some water right where I want to highlight. And that'll create kind of a soft edge there in this. Just drop in a little more color here. And it has texture even better. There's deep Russia picking up that a little bit. As I see, it's creeping where I don't want to go, how there are different ways to create a highlight. So lifting with your brush is one of those ways, right? I could use the tissue and I can even combine it. So I just tap into there with a tissue that's creating nice bright dry area. Now I'm going to have texture, I'm going to, because I have bubbles of paint. We just show you a have puddles of paint here on the edge. In areas are drier than others. It's going to have some blooms and movement in there and that's actually really perfect. Okay? Okay, so let's move on to this one and it can be any color you like. As you know, I love blue. So maybe I'll do you choose. What you want to do though is get a, get a Oh, well, what? You don't wanna do that I can tell you. You get a clean brush, clean water. That could be a staining color that I just dripped on there. And they had to figure out how to save that. Okay. Let's leave that for now. I could come back later and work on it. Go over whitewash and I'll switch these so I don't make a mess. Maybe, maybe actually, you know, I could do a little bit of could do a tiny bit as flattering, move this out of the way on my red one. Just for fun. Okay, so we'll splattering on there just because that's fun. Alright. Moving on to our next one, which I said I was doing a minute ago, I started getting the colors ready, right? But then I taught that pay. Moving on. So I have a mix of colors here. I have, I've cobalt blue and I have peacock blue and well like that mix. So what you want to do when you're choosing your colors is you want to choose color, that's the lighter color. And you want to choose a shadow color, which is usually a cooler or more muted color of the same color. I have cobalt blue, peacock blue. And I'll probably use a little bit of alternative as shadow. I could go back to the purples. Totally fine. Anyway, you want to do it. So mix of colors there because that's fun. And I forgot that I was doing when they went. So let me just clean my brush, get some nice clean water. And I'm just going to do all three of these at once. So I did not leave a space for highlight. There. So that means I have to add it later, right? Smoothing out that water. It's a little bit blue. It's okay because I already decided was using blue for this, right? I'll leave a space this time for the highlight. So painted right around, just, just a little rectangle. And we'll see if I remember to leave it there. And I do have kinda puddle the water, you may want a more even wash. That's completely up to you. I'm just not concerned about it. Okay. There we go. Now I'm just going to drop in this cobalt blue round the edge there on all of them. These are essentially color coordinated here. Color coordinated ornaments. So that's the cobalt blue. Let's bring in some of the peacock blue. Means it a pretty strong color here. Now of course, you could mix them. You could mix your own color like you could take that and make it Teal or something like that. Again, I'm pulling out that paint, making that circle a little bit more the way I want. And this is just our first layer not going for perfection anymore. That cobol, I think the cobalt is actually turning kind of into my Shadow Color little. And I want sort of a dark edge. So it's gonna go right around there. Haven't brought in the peacock blue yet on this one that I'm going to I'm just going to drop it in. Now my papers buckling a little bit because it is this is just because it's wet in those areas. And what I could do is spritz the back of it to make it little more, a little more flat if I wanted to, but I'm just want nice textures and things. So kinda not really worried about that for this particular project. Some cobalt there. And I will go ahead and do some of that ultramarine straight into that cobol. It's going to be a nice mix, nice and dark. Now if you wanted to, you could do something like add some salt to these to create some interesting texture. And that sort of thing is completely up to you. This is bubbling up and that's why there's no paint here. So let me just go ahead and bring in more peacock. They're even a little bit over here so it can flow there. Now I kinda stop watching this one and I see it's got like some hard edges there. So while it's not completely dry, I'm going to take a lightly damped bribes. I'm tapping it off. And I wanna just soften edge there. And it can have some hard edges and some soft digits. So I see I have a little bit blue left on my brush. Go for that clean water. So just kinda scrubbing that edge a little bit. I want to soften it. And I'm going to drop in some water, then needs my tissue to lift a little bit more. I don't mind if there's a little bit of texture there, but it just didn't want it to be too much. And then let's do a little slaughtering here. Now remember if you splatter into where the ornament is, it's going to have an effect. So just keep that in mind. It's going to have a bloom there. Basically is what will happen. So you may want to live in dry first, completely up to you. Okay, so we have our first layer. Now, if you wanted to add in some metallic, say what if you wanted to add in some silver? I think without it would be nice. Or this white OLED here, little bit here. On this blue around where I have the highlight is probably a good spot because it'll just make it a little more shiny there. So that's pretty fun. I did a little extra over there. And also I could do a little splattering with that. It's not going to show up a lot, but it just will be kind of a nice touch. Now going to do metallic on this one right now. I may do it before I'm finished because you know how a love metallic. Ok, so this is the first layer. And now I need to either use a heat tool to dry it or let it dry, and then I will be back. And we'll add a few details. 6. Adding Details to Baubles 1 & 2: Okay, so we have a nice mix of colors here. We have nice blends. Now, if you wanted to add this point, you could go and add a little bit of shadow color in there. But I liked the way these look with just that one layer of paint. I do have a few little drops that are still went here, but that's okay. I'm going to bring in my pen and make a little bit of loosened sketchy. Marx. Now, this pin skips across. It's a very fine point is you can see and it skips across the texture of the paper. And that's exactly what I want because I don't want the lines to be hard and firm. I want them to just be a hint of lines there. So let's start with the red. And again, I have some of these drops that are a little bit wet, that's OK. And I'm going to hold my pen here in the middle, loosely. And slowly. I go around and round and if I go over the edge of the ornament a little bit, I'm okay. I don't want perfect lines now that was a little crazy, but it's not alright, yeah, it's okay. So kind of a few lines around. And then I will reinforce this little top here. It's still, like I said, this pen is really light, so you may just wanna do this with a pencil. You might prefer that. And then I'm gonna do this window. So you can see how it skips over the paper there, but I like that effect. So depending on what you want, you can go back and we stroke over it, whatever you need to do. But I just like the way it looks since it skips over the paper. So to do a little test with your PIN and see what works for you. And then I'll reinforce this line just a little bit. I have to hold this pin pretty vertically for it to work, right? We go reinforce this a little. Alright. So loosens sketchy, has a nice highlight. Now I can add that, that highlight which I think I will do with my taught painting. And I'll just make it a little bit more of a shape there. Maybe even a little bit and maybe some little dots around because and then tap them so there'll be not so obvious. Alright. So like that, I'm just going to stop there for the moment. I may come back to it. I'll probably paint this little top on it and maybe the sided jet. So letting these kinda just tell me what they want. And I'm just going through the same process with this one as I did, this one with the sketchy lines, but now I have three. And it goes off the edge. So really fine line. Zip, perfect. No. Does it fill in just exactly where my pain is? No. Nice and sketchy and uneven. I want that to be an even. And then I'll just go ahead and go right up with that line. So just a hint of a line there. Okay. Now I'll go ahead and do this one. As you guys know, I just love this loosened, sketchy look. Let me just go ahead and do this circles on this one because my hand is going in that motion. And so just keep on going and then I'll add the little tap here and there's a little, a little drop and I'm going to just go around that drop like that up there. And if it has a few little lines in marks in it, it's even better if you ask me. And it's a little curve on that edge. So these just sit on top of the little ornaments or bubbles. So works great than just little line straight up. I really loved that actually. These look kinda plane. So let's add a little bit of color to your little top. Now you could use a metallic paint for this or whatever kinda color. I'm going to use this warm yellow tap off my brush because I don't want to do a lot. And then just a hint of color in there, not even filling it in exactly the same for this. And maybe a few little golden spotters. And I will just drop in and drop in some of the school in that same grazie there with that. But that's okay. I'm going to just tap off my brush and just lightening is a little bit by picking some of that up. I like the way it looks. So let's see what else do we want to do? Do I want to add highlights? This? I could do that. I think I will. So I'm just going to make that little rectangular kinda sheets C-shaped there. Little bit right where I already have the white areas is not going to show up a bunch. Now this one, I did a pretty good job of leaving that highlight of the paper, right? So I may just add to it a little bit. Just a little. Make that little marker. Alright, so there we go. Now I'm toying with the idea of putting edge on these. So I'll show you, for example, when I put this on this paper, this card base. Then the edges really nice, but I could add like a gold edge to this, and I think that would be a lot of fun. And so this is for fun, experimentation and nice little gifts for our friends and family. And so I'm taking that risk, picking up that yellow gold here that I saying gold that I use for this top. So wouldn't wanna switch because it will make it more cohesive to have the same one. And I'll just take that Barrage which is not very wet though, right along the edge. So you see it will stand out. So let me move this out of the way and I want to get anything on it. And you can also just smudge it a little bit with your finger. One that edge to make it more, even more imperfect. Wanted to be imperfect and pick up that Torn Paper, which is really nice. I don't I don't want it to be like solid necessarily. So just go on that edge. I think that's nice. And of course you could stamp are right, a sentiment on there for or leave it as is because then your friend or family, they can just take this and put up a little frame. They could even use this as the, I can even use the car as sort of the mat or the mounting Borg. And we'll look pretty cute. Okay, so just a final touch on this one I think, would be to add a little bit of red here in this little extra color in that splatter. So I'm adding to it a little bit. Just because I feel like the color looks kind of washed out and there's no reason why you can't do that. And I'll add a little gold in there for fun. And then I want to do anything else. So I'm just letting this little painting tell me what it needs. I think I do want to reinforce this. Just a little, just gonna basically color over it. Still be in Lucinde sketchy. And that goes with this edge, right? So that kind of edge goes together. It works great. Don't use your pin and what paint? And enforced reinforced this line a little because this outer edge is not, this is not really the edge of the ornament, it's more over here. So I can just color over there a little bit and emphasize that that's where it goes. So you can think about how the edges look and if you want them to be more defined or not. And this is just I think this is finished. This little one is finished. And I could put like a little, little small sentiment here if I wanted to, or I could write lots of things you can do. So that can be a cute little card. And this one, do I want to add anything else to it? That's what I'm thinking right now. Anything else? Does this need anything? And so I'm just going to get my pen. Wanna reinforce this line a little bit. There's some silver iss bladders. They don't know if you can see them like that. They're on top of that line. So it's kinda cool. Just reinforcing Just a little. Getting that loose, sketchy look, they're reinforcing this edge. Same with this redrawing that a little because I felt like it needed it. Maybe even a little bit more down here. Same with this, just going to redraw that little. Emphasize this edge. So still be in pretty loose. But notice I'm holding my pin and closer to the end, so I have a little more control over it. And I want that at this stage. And then do a little bit of sketching is here. So not just making just a solid line them do a little sketching, little short marks, reinforcing that edge. What do you think? I kind of liked them. I think they're fun and they're sketchy and loose. And these don't have that swirly element going on at this has, and I didn't put the edge on this one, although I could, I could also go back and add more layers to this, to the paint. Just think I like it the way it is though. I think I like it when it is. Ok. So now it's time to put these on our card basis. And we'll have a lovely little holiday card that was fun and easy and relaxing to pay. 7. Attaching Paintings 1 & 2 to Blank Card Base: Okay, for this small card, I'm just going to use phone to attach my doublet. It's double-sided phone to attach my little watercolor. And I will cut one, essentially one square for each corner, but I don't need it to be that big. So let me just cut this in fourths. That's pretty big. And I just want to attach it kind of on the four corners are the four corners and I can flip this over and put it on the back of this, which is probably the easiest way to do it. Just put your phone take on your back of your water color, make sure it's dry before you do this. And then you just peel off the foam tape. Peel off the backing. You just take your card MEK. I'm eyeballing it, presses down where it has to take. And you have a lovely blank card that you can write incitement. And your friend, family member can frame this if they so choose. So it's a nice carding gift all at the same time. Okay. So I'll just do this one as well. Ok. 8. Paint and Sketch Bauble 3: So for this card, I'm going to continue with our loosened sketchy ornaments, bubbles. But this time I'm going to add Brush oh, crystals just to give it a little bit more pop and texture. Alright, so I have turquoise Virchow crystals here. And I'm going to just go through the same process. So the first thing I'm going to do is just draw, draw my sketchy circle with a pencil. And I love that these pencil lines show. This one is a little bigger than the other. My card is a little bigger. And then again, just a nice maybe erase a little there. I don't like the curve of that line. So let's make it. There we go. So kind of a wavy line across the top. So now we have this orbit and I'll just do like a little area where I want the highlight to be. So little oval. And I wanted to try and leave that for the most part with no water in it. So I am going to repeat again the same process. So I have my loose sketchy lines and now I'm just going to do wet and wet, skipping that oval area. Now I'm skipping the outside line of that oval area because I wanted to use a soft edge there. And I'm just going to fill this circle in. And as I'm doing this, I'm finding the circle in my marks. So it just you, you could use something to make the circle more perfect, right? But what you can also do is when you sketch, you learn to find that line that makes that shape that you're looking for. And that's what we're doing with this. When I'm painting the water in, I'm finding the line and I can adjust it if I need to. So I have a nice wet paper wet for wet and wet and this area is all dry. And now I wanna go with green to go with my turquoise. So I'm going to use my C. I'm going to use a mix of grains. I have this lovely yellow green, which I love, right? And I'm going to use viridian, which is a shadow color for that URI for green. I also have Van Dyke green, which is even darker. So may also pop that in a little bit darker and more muted. So I have this railway green, this and this, and then I have my Brush oh, crystals. Okay. So I'm just going to use a watery mix the paint and start with that light color. Putting it in here around my highlight area. Then I'll go to the meridian and start putting that in us. We'll letting it mix on the paper. And also it's mixing a little in my palate. So don't worry if you get a mixture of color that's really perfect for this. I'll add this Van Dyke green as a shadow area. I am using a really light mixture of paint. There's a lot of water am I paint plus it's going to dry. Lighter because it's wet and wet. So that's just something you gotta keep in mind when you do in the wet and wet paint, definitely dries lighter. Then before. Now I want the edge, the outer edge to be darker. Here we go. Nice mix of color. I'm stopping right there with those colors. And now what I'm going to do is just drop in my turquoise Brush. Oh, any kind of watercolor crystals? Remember, it's just happens to be the brand that I have. Just a stripe in this edge here and not the entire thing. So just light shake. And it's not gonna do anything where there's no water. It's only going to activate. Only going to activate where the water and paint is. Now i'm not going to touch it anymore because I wanted to just work its magic and create some lovely texture. What I will do though, is take my clean brush, dry it off a little, and soften this top edge of this highlight area. Some just lifting that paints solving that edge a little bit. Still going to have color there. Maybe bring in a little bit more of that green because I see that Van Dyke is taking over and I don't want that. It's been drop in more of that yellow, green color. And again, just there, steep relish. Soften that edge and being careful not to go over the highlight that's on the paper. All right. Guess what now I just need to let this dry. And I don't want to use a heat tool because I want this paint to do its magic and tipping it little bit to make it move as well. They didn't have too much water I could drop and a little bit of water. You don't wanna do that. Kinda do, kinda do. Remember, that will make a little bloom. So let's just drop it in like right around here. And a little bit in here. And I will do a little bit at splatter. With that yellow green. Pick up a little of that. Russia. Do a little spot on with that as well. So fine. Let's see. Do we want to make it shiny? Of course we do. Let's do this light, platinum, metallic and it will just drop some in here and they're just secretes some shimmer. And I do it all over, I think so. Just little dots it around that where that where it is. Okay. That's it. I want to keep playing, but I know it's a mistake to do that. I know I need to stop. So as I'm watching this, I'm seeing this edge form and I want this to be a soft edge. So again, lightly damped brush, picking that paint up a little so I can soften the edge. Don't want that to be a hard edge. Just feel like it's helpful for this painting. But it does have a hard edge here, which is nice. Okay, I'm going to let the striatum. 9. Adding Details to Bauble 3: Okay, so our Green and turquoise brush Yo, Christmas ornament is fairly dry. Maybe the, the spiders are not quite dry, but I can go in now with my pen. If I wanted to add more color, I could do that. Now, I don't know if you noticed this or not, but remember, I worked really hard to make this a soft edge and look is definitely not. So I may fix that as well. But let's just go in and add a little bit of our sketchy pin. Just like before. Just told him that pin loosely letting it skip across the paper. Getting those loosens, sketchy marks. So we're going for here. Alright. Let's define this top a little here, and a few little scratchy marks. And then we will also do our swirly hook. I know that's not a very realistic Coke, right? Because you can't really have been on your feet that way, but I love it, love it, love it, love it. So I'll do another little sketch you mark with that. Now it's nice and thick. All right, and let's reinforce some of these lines a little. Make our circle more circular. Alright, uh, like that. And now let's add a little bit more water color. So I'm going to add this same metallic in the little older here. Doesn't show very much. So I'm going to then add a little bit more of gold to that just to make it show up. Again, not worried about it being perfect. And I want to add that. Okay, now let me try and soften this edge. There's no guarantee that that's going to work. But what I'm going to do is take a damp brush, wet it, and just let it sit there for a second. So this paint is dry. Dry my brush a little, and then just scrub it. Now they do make special brushes for this. I don't mind using this one. This is a mixed media kinda brush, which still quite a hard edge there. I'm trying to cover up my white highlight completely. And of course I can't go back with the pin over it, which I may end up doing. And then I can use this tissue to lift a little bit. Alright, so soften it a little bit. Not too much. Not too much. Alright. Let's see. Do we want to add anything else? Of course, some of those metallic splattered because we've got a theme going on here. But that I love the way this turned out. I love all this texture, kinda of a blooming texture that has, they're really, really pretty. And I think it's really nice. Maybe bring in a little bit more of this green just over this edge a little. I don't know. I just want that to have a little bit more there and I have that metallic so it's moving as well. Kind of doing the same. Remember loose, sketchy, light fun is what we are going for. Yet this tissue. Wanna keep that highlight now, this area is pretty dry. You couldn't use white like whitewash there. I'll just use this pen. I'll ride. I will call this DOM. I think, I think it's just cute and loved the texture in there then that sort of thing. 10. Painting Background for Bauble 3 Card: So far our final card, I'm going to do something a little bit different because this is a watercolor card. I can actually paint on this. And I think we'll make a nice background for our ornament painting. And so I'll just show you really quick how I'm going to add some color and paint to this and guess what? I'm going to use metallic and maybe I'll use a little bit of that brush. So let's do that. So what I'm gonna do is take some clean ramp. Make sure my card will fit on top of it so I need enough space for my car to fit on there. Either way, it doesn't matter. And then I'm going to paint actually onto my plastic wrap, my clean wrap, and I'm going to use the same colors that I used Before. So all the same colors, the lime green kinda color the for rate in that Van Dyke green to add a little darkness and you see it's just kind of a messy mess and that's actually really wouldn't going for. And then I'm going to add in some metallic, which I think I will add in the same metallic at sort of platinum color here in there. Just for fun, drop in more water because I want it to be moving. Alright, I'm going to do is I'm going to press and tap this onto the clean rep. And remember this whole center area is going to be covered up with my painting and it's just the edges that are really fun show. So keep that in mind when you're doing your pressing down. So again, a nice, interesting effect. And we can do, is I can put this on here and press it around and move the pan around a little. I can even let this dry on there if I want to run and I going to do so, it's just a fun technique for plane with that paint. And now I'm going to take that turquoise Brush oh, that I used before saying Brush oh, and then splatter kind of splatter sprinkle kind of around the edges in areas. So we'll add. And then I also think I wanna do a little bit of spirit seeing and spraying. If you don't want to get on the back, you can take the back. We'll make that run. And also remember, you might want to keep the inside. Right. Now. I'm just going to go ahead and just splatter in war. And I don't mind if I get some on the back. I think that's sort of a bonus. And if you use less water than your, your card's going to buckle less. So also keep that in mind. And then the metallic, Now I'm going to dry this and I may put another layer. Let me pick a little. Let me, let me actually pay that to the edge. So you can play with this however you want. And then I'm going to actually let that flow over. Because why not? Just makes it more fun? I think makes it more fun. You do what works for you as a thing. Okay? So let this dry. 11. Adhere Bauble 3 Painting to Watercolor Background Card: So we have this lovely card base. You can see all the nice metallic dots on there. We have the brush, Oh, it's a nice background, same colors we use for our ornament right? Now. Mine is a little bit like this, but that's okay because when you put them in the envelope, it's going to sort of flatten it out. You can also just bend it a little this way and that way and to make it a little bit more flat. So I'm now going to print out who's on the back and I love that. One thing I haven't talked about is that you should sign your work. So when you do your little watercolor painting, just put your initials on there. You could even put the year. I would just put it really small just because that's the way I like to do. But of course you could do it a little bit bigger. So you do want to add that personalized touch that you made this specially, especially for them. Okay, so now that I just place this on my card and eyeball it, I love how this color is reflected basically here. It's nice around the edges and they can keep them added card. Or they could remove this if they choose to and have a little Christmas decoration for themselves. So I'm just going to repeat the same process with the phone tape to attach this to my card, my card base. Since I have a larger card, I'm going to put three on each side. So so it'll hold a little bit better. So I need, that means I need six squared. And a lot of card makers are very precise. That's just not the way I am. But if you need to be precise by Armenians, be precise. I have a feeling that if you're in my classes, that you're either not very precise or you're trying to learn to be a little bit more loose. Very good. Okay. Because Earth Day, you could send this card just like it is with just some sentiment on it, right? Okay. Let's get it nice and straight. And press down where you have that phone. And you have a lovely little holiday card and you can write on the inside now mine, I got dirty. I wasn't paying attention and I didn't really care. You can always be much more cautious than I am and not get the paint on the inside or on the back, you can tape it up, whatever you need to do to do that. But I think it just adds to the character and a handmade look of this card by having it that way. So guess what? Now we've made three lovely holiday cards that we can send to our friends, family. They can work as a nice watercolor painting. You did a handmade watercolor painting card. And they can remove these and use them as just artwork board. They can use the card as sort of the frame or the mat and frame it just like it is, or just hang it and put it in there. And their holiday decorations. 12. Project and Thank you!: Okay, we have painted some loose ends, sketchy holiday ornaments, some little bubbles if you want to call them that a lot of fun, quick, easy relaxing painting. This or no pressure painting. And I just, I love it. I love the way they turned out to have nice highlights and they have the shadows in there that we talked about as we were making it. So we've worked on a lot of watercolor skills for this painting. We've worked on a lot of art skills for this painting we've practiced being loses sketchy, loosening of our grip on our pencil or pen and creating those sketchy lines and finding that circle within it. We've talked about that a little bit. We did wet and wet watercolor, we did a little bit of lifting and we did some spattering. Of course, we made this lovely edge on this one with the metallic. And yeah, we also did that very loose technique of printing with the watercolor and the plastic wrap onto our card-based, right? And we talked about how to tear your paper to make these lovely deck old edges, lice, rough edges for your watercolor painting. So we've done a lot of water colors skills in this fun and easy class. So I hope you'll try this project. It's super fun, really easy to do. You cover like we've just said, so many skills. Just by doing this simple task, you'll learn a lot about your watercolour.
