1. Introduction: welcome my comprehensive course on how to solve this cube. My name is Byron. I have been solving Rubik's Cubes competitively for about 11 years, and within that time, I've also taught both in person and online well over 300 people how to solve various types of twisty puzzles. This course is gonna be directed that those that would like to learn how to solve this cube . And maybe you have little to no knowledge of solving any other kind of twisty puzzle. Even if you are in advanced solver and you've never picked one of these up before. This is going to be a pretty easy course for you between this one and the pyramids, which I also have a course for this as well on skill share. Go ahead and take a look at the courses I offer. And if you're interested in figuring this out, I'll have a course for that already. You guys are probably gonna be noticing that between these two, they are probably easiest puzzles I have on my table. They're not gonna take very long to learn. This particular course is just gonna be covering the skew. You don't have to know anything, there's no prerequisites is gonna be just 14 move algorithm that I'm gonna show you guys. It's going to be very, very simple. I think you guys gonna have a lot of fun with this. I did making it as well. A solving it on a daily basis. So with that being said, let's get into it. 2. The Only Algorithm: All right, you guys. So before we get started, if you guys are interested in picking up this cube, this Matt or any of these puzzles I have in the background, please feel free to take a look in the course descriptions. You can pick some of the stuff up for yourself. Alright? So first thing we're gonna do is try and get you guys familiar with how the skewed moves If you just got it and just broke it out of the package, you know, it's also the nice. You probably haven't even turned it yet. Just give it some turns. Get used to kind of the different ways that you can twist this. And the way that I like to look at it is if you grab a corner, that corner will twist. That's kind of the way I like to look at it. So any corner you grab and give it a twist, it'll rotate. So just kind of get used Teoh moving in different ways. And once you're familiar with kind of how it moves around, then we're good to learn the first algorithm. This is gonna be the first, and the Onley algorithm is only four moves and I'm gonna make it nice and easy. It's gonna be re grip plys. So as long as you can get the initial hand placement, correct, then the rest should kind of fall in place. Now that you're a little bit comfortable just moving us around, we're going toe focus on the hand placement for the first algorithm. So you're gonna hold kind of corner to corner is kind of what you're gonna be like. So corner to corner and this hand can kind of hold that whichever way is comfortable. But this hand you're gonna put thumb on top, I'm gonna put pointer finger and middle finger together on the back, and they're gonna do ring finger in a pinky on the bottom. So this should be the placement. I'll kind of show You got these two right here. And I have these two hanging out there. But this is gonna be your hand placement. So it should look just like this for you to execute this algorithm. So we're going to start by going towards you, and they're gonna use these two fingers to push to the left and then you're going to use basically this hand right here to go away like this and then you're going to twist all of that. That's gonna be the algorithm. So it's gonna be towards you, to the left, away to the right try and do it a slow as I can. So that way, you guys can keep up. So yet again, holding it like I showed towards you to the left. Use these two fingers to push to the left, and then you're gonna go away to the right, Cleo. So it should be a little bit like this. So it's it's gonna be re grip list. You'll be able to perform this without ever letting go of this puzzle. This is the only algorithm that you have to know. So as long as you can get that down and then this is gonna be a piece cake. So what I would recommend is you may have to watch this video again just to get the hand placement down exactly the motions that are involved. So go ahead and wash this video again, and once you're comfortable doing this algorithm, then you're gonna be ready to move on to the next step. And like I said, It's the only over them you have to worry about, so go ahead and practice that, and I'll see you in the next video. 3. Building the First Side: So now that you should be pretty comfortable with Sledgehammer now we're gonna focus on actually solving the Cube. First thing we have to do is find a side that you'd like to solve. It could be any color that you'd like to pick. Typically, I would like to choose a color that already has one or two corners already connected to it . So, for instance, this one already has one because we have yellow to yellow, but none of these other ones are yellow. So this is one corner that's in the right spot. You could say same thing for red. We have one orange we have to, and it appears to me that these are actually in the right spot, so orange would probably be the best one to go for. But to make things easy, I'm actually going to start with White has none, but typically you would start with one that has at least one or two already know. Of course, perfect cases. Everything is already solved. But for the sake of teaching, I'm going to start here where there is nothing oriented. So, basically, what you're gonna do is pick any white corner and I like to keep the side. I'm solving on the bottom, find any white corner and position it on the bottom. So the way I could do it would be like this. You bring this one down here, I'll show you. It was up here like this and notice how it's facing the side and then you can just bring it down. They're just like that. So I see this other white corner and what you want to do is look at the two colors that are attached to it. So here have blue and I have orange. So we'll look at the pieces already down there, and we have blue and we have read, So the common color between these two is gonna be blue. That's gonna mean that this corner belongs here on the blue side of that corner, the way we can place. That is actually pretty easy. Now, if we move it down just like this, it's not gonna be oriented correctly. It has to rotate counterclockwise once, so let's put it back. And the way we can do this is by rotating it counterclockwise once like this. Now, keep in mind, we're moving this corner out of the way. When we do that, we're gonna push this corner in its place and we're gonna bring that cornerback. And there we go. That's how you handled that case. So we're going to keep the soft side on the bottom for now. We're gonna look up in this top area again for another set or another corner that's needing to be placed. So I see this one could pretty easily go straight into there. So let's look at the colors. We have green and we have read. Now, let's look at the corners that we have already taken care of. This one is blue and orange, and this one is red and blue. So the one we're looking at is green and red, and we have read on this corner down here, so that means that that corner will belong here. Now, if you look at that corner, it can be placed perfectly, just like this. And there you go. So we got our 3rd 1 done. Now, of course, we have our last white corner, and it belongs right down there, and this is the only place that can go, so we know it belongs there. So What we're gonna do is if you notice we bring it down and he's to be rotated clockwise once. So we're gonna keep it up in this top area. We're gonna rotated clockwise once, and then we're going to push it down to its position. And then we're gonna bring that cornerback that we moved out of the way. And there you go. That's your first layer. You may run into a situation where the white is facing up. I'm gonna show you guys how to address that in the next video. 4. Special Case: I hope you guys are enjoying this course so far. I just wanted to ask a favor. If you don't mind, you may get prompted to review this course somewhat soon. So in the event that you have a corner that is facing up so you see, this is our self side corners facing up and, you know, this is the last place that belongs. So if you try to bring it down there, it doesn't work. So you try to turn it and go down, and that doesn't work. So you like. Okay, how do I fix this? The easiest way that I found out is to move this corner to the other side. You want to bring it over here just like that? Now you'll notice that if you turn it clockwise once it'll go straight into position. So it's a pretty easy solution, and I'm gonna be showing you guys another example of making your first side. Okay, so I got it all scrambled up. Now, now, let's pick a different color. Let's go with what's agree. So I'm immediately gonna look in these four areas for a corner that's already matching with that center color, which I haven't done here. So this is gonna be a good example. So I'm gonna put this on the bottom, and I'm gonna look in these four areas up here for a corner that has a green on it, for instance, like this one. Once I find that green corner since I have nothing solved down here already, I could just immediately bring this down anywhere I'd like, and we use this as a reference. So let's take a look. We have red and white. Now let's look at for a corner up here with green on it again. And let's say there's this one thing. Common denominator between these two corners is going to be read, so that tells me that this corner belongs here on the red side of that corner now we were in the same situation I was explaining earlier where the color is facing up. So the way we handle this as we move it to the other side to make sure that the green is on the side and then we're going to move it. We're gonna twist it, put it in position, and then bring that back. Even though there's nothing solved, there is just common habit to make sure we move that back. So now we're gonna look for another corner up here with green on it. And if you notice way, don't have any. That means that the corners that we're working with art correctly or I'm sorry are incorrectly flipped down here. And if you notice there's green there and there's green there, we only have two corners left. So these two are the culprits. So we're gonna find out if these corners belong where they are. And if you notice this corner has green. So that's one of the corners we want to work with. But we're also going to look at the other two colors, which in this case is orange and white. So we're gonna look at the other corners that we have notice that the common color here is white. So this corner does belong there, but we have to flip it. And from the looks of it, it has to rotate clockwise once. Now, if we move it up here like this to do that flip the green is gonna be facing up. So we want this on this side instead. So that way the green is on the side. Then we're going to do the same thing we did before. We're gonna turn it clockwise once. Put it in position. Fix that corner. And as you see, we have 123 of our corners, air handled. We just have one more to go. So let's take a look here. It looks like it needs to turn counterclockwise once. Now we move it here, Green is gonna be on top, and we don't want that. So he needs to come over here. So let's move it again. So we're gonna go counterclockwise once. So counterclockwise, one moving in position and then bring that one back. And there you go. That is how you get your first side. This will cover all situations that you could possibly run into when handling your first side. And trust me when I say this, you guys are pretty much halfway done already. This is a pretty easy puzzle to take care of, So go ahead and practice that a few times. Scramble it back up and try getting your centers or try to get in your corners again. And then once you feel like you're ready to move on, go ahead and take a look at the next video. 5. Beginning the Last Layer: All right. So now that you have your first layer handled and you got a good understanding of how that works, the next part is going to be making this same thing, at least the corners on the top. Now, it would be good for you to have a color scheme memorized. Actually, this one's got black on it, so it's probably not the best example. So if you notice we saw green first, the opposite of green is going to be blue. So we're looking specifically for blue corners Now. Notice how these corners are like this and the other two were up. We're also going to have another case where you're going to have them on the sides, and then the back ones are going to be across. And I'll show you guys that in a second now you want to have this color scheme memorized. Oranges opposite red yellow is opposite white and blue is opposite green. So as long as you know that than any color that you solve, as long as you know the opposite, you'll know what color is your supposed to be looking for Here and now. Since I saw Green, I'm looking for blue. So the goal here is to make all four blue corners face up. The way we can do that is if you are in the situation where you have the two blue corners like this and facing up, you're going to hold it just like this. Have one of the blue corners in your top right facing you like that. And this is where the sledgehammer algorithm comes in getting your position and you gonna do your sledgehammer algorithm once, and then you're going to turn and you notice we're gonna have to blue here. And then we have a blue here and a blue on the back. When you run into this, this is the situation where you just do the sled, the sledgehammer algorithm one more time. And there you go. You get all four blue corners whether it's supposed to be Now you have three situations. Either all the corners can be solved. You can have them diagonal like we had earlier, or we could have it where there is two facing the same direction and then to facing the opposite direction. So either case, when I just showed you will basically show you exactly how to get out of either situation. So now that you understand that, I would say Scramble it up again and get back to this position. And once you understand that, then come on over to the next video. 6. Moving the Center: So now that you feel like you have a handle on getting all these corners oriented, now we're going to make the entire side blue. We're gonna put a blue center right in the middle of all these corners. If your cube is already handled that way, you already have two opposite solve sides. Then you basically skip this step. You don't have to worry about it, But for most people, you're going to run into the situation where you have to make your center the way we do. This is you're going tohave. Let's say the blue needs to come up here. You're gonna hold it like this. Hold that center that you need on top in the back. Then you're gonna do your sledgehammer algorithm. Now keep hold of that orientation. We're going to turn it two times and you're gonna do the sledgehammer algorithm again. And there you go. That is how you get it. 7. Solve it: Now, once you get into this position where you're gonna have three solve side, you'll have the two opposites and you might have one on the side. But you may not have any that are solved on the sides, and that's totally fine. Where you're going to want to do is find two opposite colors. For instance, here we have orange and red. And if you remember from the color scheme I was talking about earlier orange and red are opposites. You're going to want to have the to solve sides that you had already solved on the sides. And if you do have a solved side on the side, you're gonna want that on the bottom. So you want it like this. Solved, solved, solved opposites. That's how you'd want to hold this. If you don't have assault side like this, then all you're gonna do is hold where any opposite is and have the two sides you already solved on the sides. So we're going to do the sledgehammer again, and then we're going to rotate twice and we're going to the sledgehammer again. And there you Now, this may not solve the skew for you, And if you are in that position. All you have to do is follow the same rules. Find the colors that are opposites. Have the two sides you already solved on the site and then find one side that's solved on the bottom. Make sure the opposites are in front of you and then just follow the same step. We'll show you guys what I'm talking about. So here is an example that I'm talking about. I have my first solve side done. I have my last solve side Done. Now I'm going to try and find opposite colors. And if you notice these air opposites, these air opposites, those are opposites and so are these. I have no solved side here to speak of. When you run into this, just pick any side that she want and just do the sledgehammer. You're gonna turn it twice you sledgehammer again, and then you're gonna be presented with that case I was talking about earlier. So you have the to solve sides and you'll have another one that's down there. So find two that are opposites just like this. Just like this. Yellow and white are opposites. The two sides that you solve their on the sides, and you should have a soft side on the bottom. Then you're gonna do your sledgehammer, turn it twice and to your sledgehammer again. And there you go. Now there is another case where you may not see opposites at all. When you run into that situation, just do the sledgehammer from any side. As long as you're solve sides, your first and second solve sides or on the sides, and then you'll be presented with one of the cases that I expressed earlier. So as long as you got that down, then there you go. That's how you solve the skew Pretty easy, right? It's got to be probably the easiest one I have on this table next to the pier mix.
