1. Introduction: Hello. My name is Alexandra, a k a d. Art In there. I'm an artist, illustrator, Olen, educator. And in this class, I'm going to teach you the core co steps of shading on your iPad and pro creates. I crafted six interactive worksheets that will help you to learn by doing the prepared blank objects. And the simple explanations will ensure your practice right after you get familiar with new concepts. So no confusion on this service theories. The class comes for the full droving brush designed by me from real pencil marks to give you the most authentic experience because we're doing something traditional digitally in this class, we will cover the most important topic. So we will be talking about the types of shadows values, how light and shadow word on different shapes, how to approach the complex object. And as most illustrations are colorful, they cannot leave color out of this class. So we will talk about the past color choices when it comes to shading, which will make your illustrations with more vibrant on likely shaving can be a really old welling topic for beginners. Maybe if you didn't have any artistic education, light and shadow has its theory on picking up the skill off shading. You ensure you avoid the mistakes coming from shading randomly or intuitively. Proper shading is crucial either in a flat design or in a realistic painting, and placing your shadows to the right place make your tricks look more natural and compelling. So the class is perfect for those who have just started their illustration journey, and they are beginners, and they are not confident when they are shading or their shading randomly are intuitively and actually for anyone who would love to learn shading. Aunt has an iPad pro created because we're going to work in this application. So you should have brought create installed on your iPad, and you should have a basic working knowledge of the program. So after completing the worksheets, you will be ready to approach the class project on in disgust. We're going to create a super easy project. We're going to shape an ice cream, as most people are learning, shading the traditional way. So with a pencil and paper, it was extremely exciting to me to craft this class for you and make it possible to learn shading on your five. So I hope you are as excited as I am on. If you're ready, let's get started 2. The Class Project : welcome to the class. In today's class, we are going to create a cute illustration, often ice cream. I have chosen this subject because most illustrations are consisting off complex objects, not just simple shapes. And when it comes to shading, light and shadow works differently on different shapes. This illustration is consisting off three different shapes, so it is perfect for beginners to practice a bit more complex of project, and it is not really demanding, even in color choices. After completing the interactive worksheets, he will be 100% ready to approach the project, and there are free base to do so. The 1st 1 is when you have full artistic freedom, so you will be tied on Lee by the topic off the ice cream. You can create your own scratch. Choose your own colors. Um, set your own light setting so you can really apply your newly gained knowledge to your artwork. I suggest this way off approaching the project to those who are really confident in the art . If you are know that confidence, you can still get a little creative in the resources I'm providing everything. The sketch deep brushes, the original five for Raffarin's, so you can just, for example, customized this catch. You can choose a differently shaved cream or different topping, or draw a different face or choose your own colors. I become in this one to beginners because you can test your knowledge and explore your abilities, but still follow my guidance violin doing my own illustration If you are not yet ready to go on your own, as I already said, I'm providing you everything on. You can follow me 100% but I recommend at least choose your own colors to add something from yourself to the illustration on that. It is not a full copy regarding the resources you can find them all. Even you are in a browser, and I suggest you Donald them right now you can find the resource is in the project and resource is tab below. Here is the place where you can create your project. You can read the project description here to see more button to read the whole, and here you can find older Resource is to download them. Just hit hits download, and when you go to your files on downloads on, go to reasons you will find the file downloading here. After the downloads are completed, you just click on. It will automatically import into procreate. So when you will go to your gallery Ah, you will find the version right here. So do this individually with all the files per why did also with the breast that on the color swatch is when you click, it will ultimately important, appropriate. So you will have the virtues, the color palette, the brushes and this catch and the original file for reference. And yeah, now when you have everything downloaded open a virtue to Steve when I'm talking about So the worksheets are consisting off differently named layer groups. Some of them are locked so that you cannot move them. And you will have sleeping mosques over them, out with the draw here name so that you know where to draw. These worksheets have CI cheese as well so that you can check how to complete a task. For example, so the Branstad causes off eight textured brushes and two liners. I will be using the basic shader and basic liner in the whole class. But I have created this amount off brushes so that you have something to choose from. So at this droving sat sheet on that also will be provided. You can just check what in fact these brushes creates. And I suggest you create a different file and just test them and see which one you like the best. Because all of these brushes can be controlled a bit differently. So with the tilting settings, you know what the facts you have. So I really suggest that you try them out on play a bit around with them to find the perfect one. But I'm going to use the basic shader and basic liner on you can just do the same as you as a student are part of this class. It is really important that you contribute to the class video project. So when you will be finished with your illustration, I ask you to post it to the project gallery. No, just because it will give you a sense of accomplishment and success, but you can see what other students are doing. You can see what results others are having on you can share which your results there on and it, like, completes the clothes. I would be also very happy if you would leave me a review. I really love to hear what you think. And it is also important for other students to know what to expect from this class. So now if you have older brushes and worksheets downloaded, you are ready to start seeing the first lesson. 3. Types of Shadows: in this lesson, we will be talking about what types of shadows do we differentiate? What is value on we will practice creating seamless graduations. Welcome to the first lesson. So after you have downloaded older worksheets, you have checked out the drawing set and now you have all the brushes. Let's go to the first brick shit of which is named types of shadows. So we differentiate between four types of shadows. Take coke on the apple. Here, the lightest part. If it is the highlight, this is the part where the light hits the object of most. It is so light it is almost if not fully white. The highlight goes gradually into the meat tone. This is the part of the object that is in the middle rain, so not too much affected by the light, and it is also not in shadow yet what it also gradually goes into the shadow report. This is the core shadow, and it is the darkest part of the object as the full dimension off the apple or the object blocks the light. Here, there is also cast shadow that is the shadow of the object. On the surface, it is on, and here is a little bounce light, which is a little reflection off the light from the surface. The shape off these shadows may very in different lighting situations, So keep in mind in this class, we're focusing on knowing where to put shadows, two illustrations created from imagination rather than shading objects that we are seeing in real life. If we would love to do so, no problem. Use reference pictures on observe in detail. Now let's talk about the values. By wearing the level of darkness in our drawings, we can create the illusion off depth. This level off darkness is called value and is ranging from white to black. Now take a brush from the drawing set on feel the blank shapes barbering pressure on. Let's try to create the same less Graddy. And so, ah, let's open the layers. You can see we have a cheat sheet here to see what we need to accomplish. You have guides on off. This means I have created some reference points indie shape, where you can see where you're entering the meat tone and when you're entering the shadow. Now you have the base shapes here that I actually forgot to lock, but I'm going to lock down and you have the sleeping mosques draw here on these aren't parts of the direction that you don't really need. Teoh, like adjust or do anything. So let's go to the shape one on the draw. Here, layer on. Let's have guards on. Let's take a brush. So in disgust, I'm going to use the basic Shader I just to black color. All right, make sure you have the capacity set to the maximum and just dry out your brush. And now where you see the highlight is starting not right from the edge Like you should leave this part whites because we have white included in the Wadi range. While you progress, you just start to increase pressure and it around me tone try to find a middle range off um over the vile you and where we enter to shadow Just push harder. He can pick the pan up when it goes like straight. It is the most oh, pack. You can get the darkest calorie. Ah, you can go through this value range several times to create a nice gradient. Now, as you can see, I have a bit off a mistake here on how can I adjust desk? You can choose the same brush for a razor, and now you choose their razor. And when you go like back, you can like at, um, white. Make sure to have it on the biggest on having at approximately the same size as your brush . So now I can take back from the blackness and creates nicer grad Ian's. So you just play with it and make sure to really make it a seamless gradient. You can change between the tools by double tapping on your apple pencil so you can I pull back to did at brash and double tap and you have the razor. So this is the thing you need. Teoh experiment out with the brushes how they are reacting to the tilt on the pressure and find a waste. You can create a nice gradation. Now you need to practice okay without me being here with you. So I suggest you turn off the guides on move to shape too. And now you will have this first graduate. And as your reference when I was at the beginning of my illustration journey, I was really afraid to go dark, so every off my drawings were light on flat. But by adding darkness to your work, you add adapted and your artworks were simply look more natural. Practicing doing these graduations will help you to get rid of the fear of getting too dark and also the opposite. So you will learn that white is also part of the value range. And you also need to keep in mind that not everything is in that deep shadow that it is fully black on the other side. So you can see the value range often outwork where you put it to gray scale. So let's just take a look on the final project for a second. I will turn on the value check layer on. Now you can see it in a gray scale, and you can see that it is not fully black and not fully white. Anywhere you can use adjusting values, so going lighter or darker on different parts to make your illustration work in grayscale because that will make your illustrations look good in color as well. So the value range may, uh, differ. In different are Twix and illustrations, so The point is that you need to practice thes seamless graduations on to be a fair off that you can go darker on and you can go lighter to make a bigger contrast. In this lesson, you learns to name the types of shadows you have created a value range with a seamless gradient, and now we are ready to move on to the next class to learn a big, more about lie direction. 4. Light Direction: in this last time, we will talk about light direction on practice, applying radel shadows light and shadow when an object are affected by the light source and its location, defining a light source even in an imaginary scene will help you with a placement off the shadows, and it's setting an overall mood in your illustration. As you can see, we have free spheres here with different lie directions. Here we have a top left, a front on a full top. Highlights will be where Delight hits the object the hardest, it is noted with the black dog on the wire frame. It is in a circle as light on round object create a radial shadow. Because light always wraps the shape off the object, shadows will be at the opposite side of the object. As the shape of the object blocks the light on shadows, follow the objects curve on create a radial gradient from the highlight to the darkest shadow. The cast shadow also appears on the side, opposite to the light source, and here you really need to pay attention to lie direction. I will show you some little guys I have strong by dropping little guidelines. You can define the placement off the shape of the cast shadow, for example, here, the shape off the sphere and the direction off light makes the cast shadow on the right and the starts it a little and makes it longer. In the front light, the cast shadow moves backwards so you can't even really see it. And at the top light, the casts shadow is fully below the shape. And it is defined by the dimension off this fear. There is a small amount of flight that usually bounces back from the surface to the object . It is called bound slight, and it helps us in drawing to defer the shadowed part off the object from the cast shadow. So you can see the bounce slides right here on. You don't really see it because you cannot see the car shadow. And here you also see the bounce light. Now let's get into the practice here. You have an interactive wire frame, so go to the layers. You have to layer groups divert sheet on the practice here, So obviously go to practice here. Now you have dis lights. I don't make it bigger here, so that you can see And we are talking about this part the liver chick Now So you have delights. Ah, you can move deaths, Aziz, You wish as you will practice to define where the light is hitting deep sphere, you have the wire frame which is long. You have a cheat sheet to see how to shade. Ah, this fear and I will just show you. Let's say you move the lights here and now you can take a look on this. Cheech it. You can just move it. And as you move it and place this radel white circle to the dot where it iss somewhere to the middle, you will see how to shape the sphere. So this is a really amazing resource for you. So every time you will need to see how to shake this fear, you can just move this. The lights taught some There you can just hit on the cheat sheet on movie. There on you will see how to shade it. But let's just go back to the original place. Yes, it is here on let's see the other layers. So here is the base circle Here is Cheech it for the drop shadow off. This fear is that you can move around and that just shaded sphere together. So turn off the T cheat and keep the vire frame keep to light and go to the draw here, layer that you have about the based circle. And now you can just choose the basic Shader. And as I told you, light and shadow wrap the objects right. And this is why we have this circle here so that you know how to go around with the shading . So killed Steve pencil and go lightly around this circle. You can just make a little radio Graddy IND. You will do actually exactly this thing you have done with the value Range. But in a circular wait, So I will just she does again. And in my imagination I try to follow this circle circle with the other layer of darkness which will be the core shadow, and I will try to make a nice graduations. And if I overdo something, I can just go back to the razor and just God back from it. So it is a really, really nice way to practice Radel shading. And I just left this bound slight here that but actually I can just simply erase it from from this point, I think this is bits to during, so I will just get back from it. Oops. All right. And now I will just draw this drop shadow below the base circles. I have the layer for it, so I will just make it a bit smaller. And I have this shape that I can feel Actually, you can play but it and add a bit of different shadow. But it is already created, so you just feel it on to change the shape of the drop shadow. You need to go to the base shape that you have here hate to transform and you can choose freeform. And you can make it a bit smaller just like that. And now I have well shaded a sphere so you can use this is the reference just to look at their Or you can turn on the cheat, sheet it and you can move it somewhere else and moved the lights number else hopes to see how to shaded, turn off the cheat sheet and do a different layer. Or just clear this drawer here, layer on you can just try out different versions off the same shape. We have a layer for bound slight, so you can just add it with white A few once. But the best way is to erase from the shading so that you have it on the one layer and you can just turn off the vire frame on delights on Now you have a really nicely shaded sphere . So I suggest you do some practice, try out several light directions and try to apply the theory you had just learned. You always have a cheat sheet to help you, so don't be afraid of it. It was really are here, Rica, moment when I discovered I can create this very ship for you and actually this teaching for you realizing the red Il ity off shadows will help you in the future. And it was really a mind blowing thing for me when I realized as radios shadows look like death. Incredible. In this lesson, you learned how lie direction affect shadows, your practice placing radial shadows. And now you're ready to move on to the next lesson or reveal learned about shading round objects. So see you in the next. Nothing 5. Shading Round Objects: in this lesson, we will shade round objects, so we will be shading some basic geometric shapes and also objects similar to them. So here we are on the shading around objects, interactive worksheets. You can see that we have some basic geometric shapes here and some shapes or Old Jack's that are similar to them. Now we have the Cici turned on, so I will just turn it off. Onda, we have basic shapes. If you open the layers, you will see layer groups for all shapes and objects. Now you have a set lights direction for this practice, but obviously you can change it later when you will practice on your own. You also have a cheat sheet for the light set like this so that you have a reference. So here are the layer groups. Let's open this fear and you have delight set and you have a cheat sheet for that. You already practiced the spear, but let's just do it one more time. Mainly if you took some break after the previous video, so they just go to the drawer here section again, turn off the check it on and choose the basic Shader and now imagine this circle around the dog because now we don't have it. I will just shade the whole Andi dude exact same thing I have done in the previous video. I again double attack for the razor so that I can make the transition smoother. I already left out some space for the bounce light, but we didn't. A razor. I've will just enhance it. Okay. And now you can just go to the cast shadow. Now, we don't have a shape for it, so you need to practice it as well. So Jews, a basic shader and to the cast shadow, try to find the the shape off the cast shadow. So you have a cheat sheet also here, so you can steed. Okay, so you can just approximately find a round shape on, try to define the shape off this cast shadow by the dimension off this fair. So the construct a will be approximately from here a bit longer like here, because the light is coming from this direction and I can just set an approximate size off for it. Okay, so now we have Ah, sphere. Let's move on to the apple again. I will just, um, go to the apple. I can see the cheat sheet here. I was similar lie direction. So now I go to the drawer, he layer, choose the brash, turn off the chief chief, and again try to apply the circular shadow around the apple at the top. We will have a bit off a smaller shadow here below this thing. And also think about that. This part, for example, will be lighter because the light can hit it, Aziz. Well, also at the top. So try to figure out the dimensions off the object to our shading. So we're going from this lights approximate circle to have a darker, then darker value. Try to follow this rad ability on the shadows, so go from the light to the darker. Leave a little foul slight. Here. You will have a little shadow up here, Okay? Because this round the sub d apple, we blocked the light going there, and maybe you will have light around at the tough here as well. It is good to look as reference images to see the exact shapes off the shadows. But now just try to do it this way to see the red Il ity. Now let's go to D cast Shadow, And you can keep in mind that adding cost shadow to drawing usually odds the looked to the overall realism off the drawing. You can just get a little back from deep because shadow here from any razor with a bomb slide so it will add again to the realism off this image. Now let's move to the slender light on the cylinder will fall fully on its side and the top . So as you can see, this gradient will be writer leaner than radel, and it is called actually linear shadow. So now you can take out your skill that you practice when you were doing to value range at the beginning, start from decide, which is in light on gradually gold darker as you can see the bombs light. Here we reflect to decide in the shadow. So now the question if if the cylinder is empty or full, we have a layer for dad as well. If it is full, the tough will be fully exposed to light. I'm just adding a little texture here, so it is not that artificial, and if it is empty, look at this. How does shading is done? The direction off the shading in the inner side will be flipped as delight will hit the opposite side of it. So we dio uh, seamless Gradin Lee Nearly and a day in her side to the opposite direction. So we just turn off the cheat sheet. Let's do it together We have to base shapes. We have the light direction sat here and we have the base shape. So go to the draw He layer about the base shape, choose the basic Shader And now, as the light hits it this way, I will make it up. It's smaller. I do a lean year shading life This so this will be light to Scooby darker on this will be darker again. And to add the bounce light And just today, razor on, take away from sight and a bit from the, um bottom. All right, so no, this was so easy, right? If you wanted to be full so you can go to the top shape. And here you have a drawer here layer again. You can just add a bit off a shadow like this on you are done If you want to experiment now try to do this flipped or reversed version off. The linear shading looks amazing. And now let's go to the cast shadow. And as the line is coming from here, we will have a cost shadow approximately at the shape off the main object. So this will be a threat. Her like this longer shape right here. Okay, I think it's looks amazing. And as you can see, we will move to the mark and it will be shaded similarly. So let's close the cylinder. Let's go to Denmark and we have free based shapes. Here again, we have the mock based shape, the top and the mark handle. So legis started the mug based shape. Here is the mark cheat sheet, so you can just turn it off and go to the base shape and gats deep basic shader and now do the exact same thing. So go Lin early and gradually darkened the whole it's like this. You will have a kind of this dark lining, the darkest part a ziff and this is the core shadow. I already left someplace to the bounce light, but you can just erase from eight so that you have this bounce light and also again adds to the bottom. And now let's go to the mark. Top drawer. He layer just the basic shader I know. Troll eight rivers. Nice. Now, if you wants to have a bit often adds, you need Teoh Gaddy Razor, make it smaller and just erase from the side of it so that you have this edge off the mark , if you know what I mean. So you can go to the other layer on and erase from it as well. And you have this nice edge. Now go to the mark. Handled row he layer. So like the brush. And actually, it will be almost fully dark as it is at the back off it. Maybe it feel get a little righted light at the top. So you can just a race from it at from the middle as the light will bounce back so it will be dark here. It will belie their here and okay, Now go to the cost shadow. Well, uh, finished. How amazing is that on quick rights? Okay, let's move on to the final two shapes on. We have a cone here and now this is again a different shading. It is kind of between the radio and the leaner shadow as we have a sharp top and a circular base. Actually, the shadows will have a triangular shape on if you take a look in it closer. The highlight is triangular the meat onus Triangular Onda shadow is triangular as well. So now I will turn out the Cici, go to the drawer, he layer uh, gats de basic shader Oops. I will make it a bit smaller and we have delight from here So we will start lightly from and I will make it but smaller and kind of try to do triangular, uh, shape. And yeah, it is not easy to do this Triangular shapes? No, the most perfect. But you can check the sheet cheat sheet. Let's go to the cast shadow. And actually, the couch shadow will be triangular as it is the triangle. So I will draw an approximate triangle to the opposite side as the lightest coming from here on simply shaded. Yeah, and I forgot to bounce light from the base shape, so go to the base shape and it raised a bit from it in the bottom so that you have this nice differentiation. All right, It looks amazing. And let's see the ball, which is old final shape. So close the cone and opened a bowl and you have a boat. Now, little combined these together. So as you can see, the bottom of the bowl is like upside down cone, and we will have the inside shading defeat practice aimed at the mark. Okay, but now the light is coming from this side, so I will turn off the cheat sheet. We have the base shape on the drawing a layer about it. I will choose the basic shader and try Teoh. This is lighter parts, so it will start with lights and I will go gradually to this dark. So it is actually a cone that has a cut off, Uh, like bottom or top. That makes sense now. Okay, I call it finished. So you can just imagine that this shape is continuing to this cone. And as this is going a bit outside to differentiate, I will add a beautiful light down here like this. And like this, this is a kind of again a linear shadow. So it is going to the shadow report. I will add to pick up a bit off a bomb. Slight hair. I had a bit of a shadow below it so that we have the stage. And now let's move to the top shape draw He layer and stood the same. So like this and we haven't actually already. So go to the base layer on. Just erase for me at the h so that you have dissent again. Okay, Looks nice right now go to the cast shadow And as the light is coming from that side, you just add a little shadow approximately at the shape off this long like this, it is like an upside down cold. Okay, Something like that. Okay, I guess this waas a great practice. We have learned so much in this lesson you have practiced placing radio linear and triangular shading. You learn how to shade objects that are empty or full, and you have learned how to adjust the shading off this basic geometric shapes to riel object. Now I suggest you take a little break so that you don't get too overwhelmed personally after creating anything or practicing too much, I get tired. It takes so much out of me. So I need to step side a bit on and then return to later so that I don't do too much of something because then I lose interest and I don't want this to happen to you. So I said, I suggest you won't be the class tomorrow or in a few hours or after a cup of tea. So after your little break sieving the next lesson when we are going to talk about shading objects that have I just 6. Shading Objects with Edges: in this lesson, we will take a look on how light works on objects that have edges in objects with edges like a cube or a pyre amid the shadows are not grading into each other smoothly or in a gradient, but they are grating in levels with a clear ach. You can see the value range here. It does know this seamless gradient anymore, but the levels of darkness change on this side off the shapes. Now take a look on the cube, where the light hits it as the top, so that side will be the lightest decide. Opposite to the light source will be the core shadow, and what is left is the front side. That will be the mid tone, the cast shadow and the bounce light works similarly is before, so the object will block delight in its shape, and the bound slight will follow the edge of the side in the shadow. Now let's try Teoh shade this cube together. If you go again to do layers, you will find the layer groups and let's find a cube. So now again, we have free shapes. We have Cici, that we will turn off. We have the light direction that you can change if you want to try out different lighting settings. So let's start with the front as that will be in a Azemi tone. So let's go to the drawer here, a layer off it and juice the base Shader on. Just draw a middle range. Here, let's go to the top. So here it is totally in light, exposed to light. But I would love to add just a really, really nice texture like this on Let's go to the other side and here is the draw he layer off it on. Let's make it a full shadow. As I starts the bomb slight will be here a swell. So Tuesday Razor. Andi, just raise the best from the shadow Report Flag Death! And now let's go to the cost shadow again. The cost shadow will be here and the shadow with parts in the bidding started. Shape off the off. The origin will say OK, so something like this. Amazing. Now what's breakfast? The shading off other geometric shapes with edges on. Let's take a look on deep, I remand. We see only two sides now, so one will be a light on when we'll be a darker me tone, as the shadowy part will be at the back off the pyre amid and the cars shadow will actually note the shadowy part. So turn off the cube. Go to the pyre amid, turn off the cheat sheet. Let's find the base shape here and to draw he layer above it. So as we start, this is going to be in light, and I will just add the really light layer here so that is not fully white, just to have a texture. And let's go to the side and draw he layer about it on. Just simply make it darker. You don't need to do it like fully black, right? So let's imagine we have the opposite side in full shadow. And now let's go to the cast shadow and try to image ing this shape. Try to draw a triangle from this edge to this match on. That will be the shape off the cast Chantel on. You can make it dark. Make it all right. So now we have the PIRA me how easy it was that. And now let's go to the hexagonal prison defined problem posing and right here we have the light sores. Have you have to cheat cheat? I'm going to turn off on this is actually the hardest shape they're going to shade because it has four are different based shapes. So I'll just take a look on the cheat sheet As the light is coming from this side, this side and the top will be light. The front will be The midtown on this part will be in shadow. So we have this side on a different layer decide in a different layer. So just start with the right side, okay? So go to right side and draw he layer, turn off cheat sheet and add a little bit off life shadow. The front will be apart off the base shape. Okay, So go to the base shape and I go to Joe. He layer, make it a bit darker, like death and now go to the left side and draw here layer and make it fully dark. And now we have the top onda drawer. He layer about it. Let's just that little little texture on Got it back to d left side. And it raised a little bit from the bottom and decide 40 bombs light. Okay. And now let's go to the cast shadow and approximately try to find this edge. Debt is blocking the lights and it is blocking it like deaths. You can make it a bit darker below. Yeah, Wonderful. In this lesson, you learned about how light works on objects that have edges. Now, we arrived to the part of the class where I can save You have covered most of the theory. You had a chance to practice a lot. And I'm sure you now understand how light works on different shapes. Now, the most interesting and fun part of the class is coming when we are going to shada complex object that is an ice cream. So if you already see you in the next video 7. Shading Complex Objects : in this lesson, we will take a look on how to approach complex objects that are consisting off more geometric shapes. Every object can be broken down to basic geometric shapes. For example, here we have a sphere, a cone and a cube up in the chocolate. The shadows work accordingly. So there is a radical shadow in the sphere. There was a triangular shadow on the cone and some linear in this run offs and also the levels of shadow on the chocolate cube here. So legislate this a little ice cream together. Go to the layers and now we have every shape again separately on you have a cici layer, so I will just turn it off. And you have this basic image here. Now choose the basic shader on Let's move from the cone. So go to the drawer, he layer. And as we can see, the light is coming from death side. So it will hit the whole complex object at this side. So we will have this triangular shadow approximately here. I love to shade cones the opposite way. So from the top to the bottom. So please sorry that I turned it upside down I will make my brash obits bigger and ideals shades this shape. I will try to make this triangular shadow here. I keep again a bit life here for the bottle slights. And I will just make a big reputation here. I will get back from its with the new razors. Everything as perfect. I tried to make the highlight. Also triangular and also part off. This shadow looks nice. So I already have the cone. Let's take a look on the sphere up here, so Yeah. So I will go to the ice cream here, and I will kind of define this place. Bear the light hits its I have another layer on the top so that you practice it is a bit more and people have the sore ideal shadow. Okay, nice. So now we have a bit of for run offs. So we have this lean ear shadow here. I will make it the military disporting. Yeah, like this. So we have light at this fart on the run offs. It will be a similar to the cylinder. So at this side, it will be darker and we'll go gradually to the light. And as this part off it. We'll be in shadow. I will not really play with this. Our shadows and there's run offs. I can add a little bit off light, actually blank here or to connect these run offs. Two Domain sphere. I'm glad to beat off a bomb. Slight here. So this lighter. All right. Now let's go to this ice cream top, and I will just simply full the base shaving. I have just done here, so I still have the light or the highlight. Here's I've just raised for me to make it a bit battery. I add a bit off a cast shadow off the object right here. So it will have this cast shadow, this stopping kind of following the shape of these fear. And now let's go to the chocolate. So let's go to the drawer, he layer, which is the which will be the sites off the chocolate as we have the front separately. So this side off it will be dark. This will be in the midst down on this will be in the front, will be up in light. I will just add a little bit off texture to it. Let's just take a look on the car shadows. So we already had to The cars shadow to this cube. And let's just add below this cone because age well cause a bit of a cast shadow below this run offs and also the stop shape. So I will go to the base shape and add a bit off discussed shadow below dis Ronald, so it will differentiate us levels of it. And while I we have a properly shaded ice cream here. Now you see that when you approach a complex object from your illustration in the future, you will need to break down its form to basic geometric shapes and apply shadows according to them. In my personal work, I still sometimes fall into the mistake of shading intuitively. However, after years of practice, this intuitive shading is no that bad. Revisiting these theories and sometimes getting back to practicing these basics help me keep my shading skills fresh. So I suggest you keep these worksheets on your iPad and come back to it here and there. When you have some free time and do some exercises in this lesson, they practice shading complex objects. Now you are ready to move on to the last lesson before approaching the class project. In the next video, we will learn about the best color choices when it comes to shading, because color is also a big question mark foursome. So if you are ready, let's move. 8. Shading with Color: in this lesson, we will talk about easiest and best color choices when it comes to shaving when creating a colorful piece. And as most illustrations are colorful, we need to think about which colors to use. We already learned about values, and they apply also to color. We need to choose some darker colors for shading and lighter colors for the highlights. The general rule is not to use full black for shading because it makes colors dull and their arm or interesting ways to create shadows. The easiest way to shade an object and this is what I suggest to do for beginners is to choose a few, for example, red and choose its darker version for shading a lighter version for the highlight. So I'd say I choose red and then I go to the Classic, and I just simply choose a lighter version off it for light and darker version off it foreshadow. Even if this works well, just take a look on the other Colin right here. Can you see that these fears are more colorful in this column, the shaded object gets more vibrant and natural. They are shaded with a darker version off a different you. So here you have the same you in a darker and lard lighter version and here you have a different you. In a darker version I have collected here some color combinations. You cannot is that colors close to each other on the color wheel are combined. So take a look on the color wheel. We have the disc hair so red is combined with purple. It is next to it. Then we have oranges combined with a dark saturated rad. Yellow is combined with a dark reddish brown dark teal. I mean green is combined with dark teal or blue. We have blue here, we don't purple. We have purple here with dirt magenta, and we have a pink hair with dark red, so these colors are not too far on the color wheel. So if you go to the color harmony, you will learn about color. Our harmonies you have analogous that are color sticks to each other. Try dig during the triangle, and they're complementary their opposite to each other. So these colors look great in illustrations. Together, they create a great contrast, and they make things pop. But when you mix them for shading the dawn to look that good. So when you choose colors for the shadows, choose darker versions off. Use that our neighbors now go to the Virgets layers, and you can find the practice here. Layer group. Let's try to choose a color for the shadows of this colored shapes so you can just simply peak the colors that I provided. You can find the base colors and shadows so you have this here you have the base colors and their shadows below that, so you can use that. But you can just intuitively trying to find a color that will shape well. So go to the practice here, layer and you have all the colors. Let's go to the red. You can directly actually shade to its shape if you wish. So I just used the dark purple to make this on it quicker so I can shade and like death For the highlight, I will just use a light version off the same you okay, so not to mix you a bit up that much right now, the dark saturated rid for the orange lighter version for lights and then for the yellow. I will choose this dark, reddish brown and for delight. I will just choose lighter version off the same you and for the green I will choose to Doug too. Andi, True was distain lighter version for Let's let's Go to the blue. I look into the dark purple and the light of version off the flu for light. Actually, you can just you use whites Ah, for this purpose and let's go to the pink. But I mean them purple you choose to dearth Megyn, come like this. You can just choose white for the lights on for to the I think I think that's just choose the light here. All right, so you can get creative and tried is on your own and pick your own colors. The point is that you try out shading with color until now, have you practice your shading skills Onley in black and white on it is a bit different to work within color, right? My pro tip here is to know to yourself the best color combinations you discover personally . For me it is that I love to shade blue with indigo. I love to shake orrange with dark brown and generally these color combinations and work well together in an overall illustration. Color choices can also define your artistic voice, so developing a color palette and color combinations that work well together and having colors foreshadows can help you to build your artistic voice. In this class, we have learned about the best color choices when it comes to shading, and now the class project is coming. So see you in the next video on Let's start Applying or New knowledge. 9. The Final Illustration: in this lesson, we are going to start the class project. As I already told you, You are free to do your own illustration customized mine or follow me step by staff So opened illustration file. You have a sketch included here. You can just import it into a different file if you wish, because you have that also in the resources you have a value check layer which I will show you in a second home to make on. You can just check your values in your illustrations with it and you will see your whole illustration in grayscale. I really re comment to add this layer to your every illustration. So if you can really, like, check what you are doing to create a value chick layer, I will just show you how to do it. Create a new layer, choose gray on fill it And now when you go to this end, button even change the blending mode and change it to color. And while I you have a value check layer Okay, so I would just delete this and have mine here. So you have the orginal file to see how I've done mine and you will have also the layers I'm not going to create so that you can see how I progress. So now I turn on the sketch. I turned off the final original. I have said the background color to the slides. Think you can set it to light grey? I love to study to light gray or or different, like greyish or light color, not fully white, so that I can see my colors batter. Now what you need to do with this catch is to reduce it's opacity so that you can see through it and actually create a new layer below this catch on. This will be the code I rename now the colors. You have the color palette here and 40 cone. I'm going to use this yellow on. You can choose any brush. What I'm going to use is extreme liner Now the extreme liner went pushed. Heart is leaving this marks around. So I will try not to push that heart butts to to keep it like nice because I'm not If I'm not pushing that heart, it is not leaving that mark. So I turned this upside down so it is easier for me to draw and I just start drove the cone when I filled it with color. I will just go around the age and fill the missing pixels because, as it is, a textured brush it believe out, little pixels pay attention with extreme liner because in other layers it works like weird . So if you need to feel some more big cells to choose the basic liner on, just do it with that. So I often walk the base shape and I would choose the color for the shadow. I had this dark reddish. Never choose the basic Shader. And let's have the light source here. Okay? As we did the shading without colored, Now we feel want to add back to it. You can just grab the base color and just try to make this nice, seamless dragons triangular graduations. If you want to switch back to the coloring Burke fit. Just hold down this. You don't need to pick it up again. Uh, but it will just switch back. If you do this in a separate layer, you can again Virk like as we did, Andy, we depend Sel. I mean, in black and white, so you can just use in a razor to erase. Added that tax. Cherie, just create a new layer and go to the brushes where you have d textures and you have the great there. So now choose that lighter color and just draw. Agreed about the cone, Bigger one. Okay, because we're going to rotate it. So select it, rotated to this shape so that it fits it on. Just hit to this layer to clipping mosque on it will collect it Now I want to duplicate this layer. Andi, select this layer hit Select on Filled with Black The truth Black color on hit Phil layer And now move and move. It's like deaths. I will just show you closer. So move this layer Next to this will be the shadow off this texture. And as the light is coming from dare Okay, so decide The shadows will be like like this. Okay. And they're coming. The life is coming from the top, so this part will be in shadow Now I will go to adjustments and go Schindler and blurry a little bit. Okay. And when you go further disobeyed. But it is a bit too harsh, so just simply Loberg capacity. And then I'll flog this layer and choose the color for the shadow and just go about it on dark and a little bit on Addis takes true if it and you can choose even white to add light to decide. Okay, to make sure could be lighter and you can go to the base and you can add a little light here as if it waas like glowing. Okay, All right, so now we have the coach. Let's move on to the ice cream so I will create a new layer. Andi, I would choose my purple and again choose my extreme liner and just simply blocking the shape. Richards. The basic liner to filling pistes. Missing pixels. Okay, Now turn off this layer. Create a new layer on. Do the same with this stop shape again. Choosed extreme liner. The reason I'm choosing the extreme whiner is that when you just blocking a shape lightest on, you want to grab a color into it you want, so you will have a field shape. But with the basic liner usually got some like like holes in the line coming from the texture off that brush. It is just annoying, so I will just drag it here, go back to basic liner on just simply filling again the big cells. And actually this extreme liner leaves these little marks as its smudging and adds so nice little like natural effect, because that is really accidental. If you like, have those after illustration, they can be annoying, but actually, traditional media can be annoying as well. I just shade it. What I'm going to do first is to add the light, just the basics. Shader brush and let's adds delight here, and I feel just awful. Lock this layer and I will go to the layer below. Continue this shape off the lights a little bit, and now it's Jews. The day shadow color for it. Paint the purple and go to the Slayer, and I will just make it bigger and try to add this rad deal shot. We live back to purple a bit. With this process, we are actually also adding a bit off a texture and go to the topping. Now let's think about the cost shadows OK, so as we sat this cube, we'll have a cost shadow here may make it smaller. You'll have a cost shadow Hare. And the stopping will have a shadow on this lower level. So I will add a bit off a shadow bill. Always. And also this part will have a shadow on the cone and go back to this yellow and choose this darker version. Let's make it a bit darker. And his run offs We'll also have shadows. Okay, I will choose up its darker Russian here and I'm artist. It is great as well. So it is. No, that lights. Okay. And how would you do the chocolate? So what's great to new layer for the chocolate? It will be a brown. I will choose this light lighter brown, I guess. Choose the extreme liner. And again I'm just look in the main shape. No, I will not make a different layers. I will just choose a darker burden right from here because we have so many browns here. I will just after Lockett and Tuesday Basic shader. So we sat at this part will be darker on this will be the mitt down on this little state light. What I will just add is with the basic liner. There's little lines, uh, for detail and now I can just turn off the sketch. And I have a wonderful ice cream here. What I miss is this part of the runoff that we cannot see. So I will just simply go back to this layer after the ice cream and just add a little bit off shadow with the basic shader so that his run ups can be seen. And now turn off this catch on. We can see it wonderful. The final thing is to at some eyes, so I will just choose white. I would choose the basic culinary. I will just draw circle holds down for the quick shape function you will have at its shape . Here you can choose circle and just fill the shape. Either choose black for the eyes and you can add a little light with whites ends. So you have a moment. I you can just de plicating it, select and place the other eye on just with simple black. I'm just Joel. Acute health on what's left is to sign it. What you can to is to the background What I already did. Ah, that I chose kind of Derek your Magenta and the basic Shader made it a lot bigger and just added a bit of the gradients to the background. Me too loud. A bit of extra if you think it is too harsh simply just over the capacity. But it will be a still there. And one last thing on it is D cost shadow. So I will just choose black, choose the basic shader on, make it smaller shade a little circle here I will choose theater just mints. Go, Schindler. I've ill just blur it and placed it below de ice cream. And as if it was falling, Amazing or right, I call this illustration finished. See you in the next video where I'm going to show you how to upload your project. 10. Upload Your Project: big here in the project and resources for it. You can hit, create project, and for this you will need to save your fine illustration as a J pod. So hits share hit J. Paige and just save image. And when you go to your project, add a title. You can just write something a few words about the class. What do you think? What was your experience? Completing the class, The class project at cetera. And here you can just choose it for the from the father library. And I loved to cross. Wonderful. You can experiment with creating a copper image the cover image as death size. So what you can do for the cover image is too. Choose your illustration without this a background gradin because it will be a bit distracting. You can just select all the layers and he transformed on Just move it in this direction. And you know what? You can just write your name here or you can just add a laddering. I will just add, uh, text. So hit. Add add text. Every right eyes cream project. I will just move it here. I will add it. The text I will just hit at the text and and its style. I would do a bit of a trump shadow too. So when I can do is to deprecate the liar ing and, uh, Rast Arise and hit Alfa Lock Disl over on select delay Your fill it with black and movements like this. Go Schindler and blurry Tippett. Okay, I cannot blurred because it is Alfa locked. So I will on alpha locket and now hit Goche in there and blurred a bit like this and made the idol over. DEA posit e looks nice. I will save it. Sherry as a. J. Paige save image and I will go back to skill share. It was there. Okay, summits. And now I have a nice cover for my image. It will look way batter if you create a separate file for the cover off the project. And now I can publish. And now see you in the final video where we are going to summarize what we have learned in this class 11. Final thoughts: congratulations. You have finished all the works, eats and completed the class project, and I think you can be really proud of yourself in this class We have covered so much. So let's just do a little recap in this glass. You have learned about the court concepts of shading on six interactive bird ships. You have learned to name the types of shadows and practice to create value range with a seamless gradient. You have learned how lie direction effects with shadows you have practiced applying gradual linear and triangular shading. You learned how to shade objects that are empty and how to adjust the shading or basic geometric shapes to really objects. You have learned about how light works some objective edges, and you also practice shading complex objects. Finally, you have learned about the best color choices when it comes to shading and applied all these two acute illustration often ice cream. If there's one thing I hope you will take away from this class is that shaving is not just important but fun, and when it is down with confidence, your results will be incredible now that you had a chance to learn by doing and practiced the concepts along with the explanations. I am sure we created a stable basin you that you will be able to rely on in the future and you will be able to build on it. I'm really excited to see your project, So don't forget to post them into the project gallery. It would be also great idea to see what your fellow peers have accomplished. So like them on comment on them. And I usually choose the best project and share them on my Facebook page. So don't miss the chance to get featured. It would be really nice to know what you think about the class. So please leave me a review. And don't forget to follow me healer Skill share so that you get notified about my latest announcements, new classes on challenges. It was a pleasure to have you this close. Happy creating on See you next time
