Project Description

2b9cea2b

For your class project, your mission is to illustrate a cactus garden of your own.  Be sure to download the class project PDF(over to the right if you're viewing the class on the website), which includes a link to my cactus inspiration board on Pinterest, my color palette, my favorite brushes links, and a basic walkthrough of the process.

  • Step 1: Rough sketch your cactus garden, making it as simple or as complex as you'd like.
  • Step 2: Choose a color palette.  This is just a starting point, you can make changes to your palette as you go, but I think you'll find that starting with some idea of color in mind will save you time in the long run.
  • Step 3: Block in your flat colors using at least 2 of the techniques from the class.  Play around until you find what works best for you.
  • Step 4: Rough in a layer of color contrast to start breathing some life into your art.
  • Step 5: Add texture and light using blending modes.  Take some time to experiment with different colors and blending modes to see what effects you can get.
  • Step 6: Add your final details with the brush of your choice.
  • Step 7: Share you work with everyone in the class so we can see what you've created.  If you're posting to Instagram, be sure to use the hashtag #stephfcskillshare and tag me @stephfizercoleman

Have fun and happy drawing!
