1. Marketing Kindle eBooks Intro: okay, And this lecture, I want to introduce you to a number of different ways that you can market your e book. Up until now, my entire Kindle publishing system has relied on no marketing at all. It's relied entirely on the use of keywords and the creation of decent covers and writing good titles and descriptions and allowing Amazon to do all of the marketing for me. But as you've seen in the earnings reports, it's becoming more and more difficult these days to accomplish that. You can still make steady, passive income by just following that strategy, but it's not going to be a Z exciting, as I think most of my students would like it to be. And it's just not going to get you the results that you probably are looking for to create significance, amount of passive income. I also have a large number of students who are publishing books that they've written themselves and are attempting to create a brand for themselves rather than publishing numerous different books by different authors. And many of those students have been asking me, How do I market my book? How do I market my book? Please tell me. How do I market my book? So I want to share some really commonly used strategies with you, so that if you are creating your own personal brand around your books, you can follow some of these strategies and get more readers and more buyers for your books . So here, five different ways that you can drive traffic to your books, create an audience and hopefully get more sales. And I'm going to start this list from sort of the most basic, easiest thing to implement to the more challenging, more expensive strategies. So these five marketing strategies are social media, which would include Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or even other social media platforms like Instagram, for instance, or linked in the 2nd 1 is YouTube, so creating videos on YouTube and linking them to your book. The 3rd 1 is creating your own website, or blawg. The 4th 1 is to create an email list, which would be associated with a website or BLAWG, where you collect email addresses from people who are interested in what you're talking about or your specific personal brand or specifically in your Kindle books, and then you can market to them through your email list, and the final one is various paper click methods of paid advertising. And this could be through Google AdSense. Where you're paying for Google ads could be through Facebook, where you're paying for Facebook. Ads could even be through YouTube ads or the one that I actually cover in other parts of this course is THEANO Zahn Marketing Services, which is found right within your Katie P. Dashboard, where you publish your Kindle books. And this is a pay per click advertising right through Amazon, where you actually just pay them to send traffic to your book and get sales that way. The other paper click like Google AdSense and Facebook ads I'm not going to go into because , honestly, that's a very involved and very challenging advertising strategy that almost requires its own course to be dedicated to it. In fact, there are a number of courses out there that you can take that are complete guides to this because you really do have to do pay per click advertising right, And it's a learning curve, because otherwise you can really just throw a lot of money at the wall, and not very much of it will stick. So those are the five marketing strategies that I'm going to go over with you to help you build your brand, get more eyeballs in front of your books and on your books, Amazon Page and ultimately to get more sales. 2. Social Media Kindle Marketing: okay. And this lecture, I want to talk to you about building your brand on social media, and I'm gonna go over three main social media platforms in some detail, and that's gonna be Facebook, twitter and Pinterest. And then I'm gonna just touch on some things like Instagram and linked in. But the important thing to remember is to use the social media platforms that you either already use or that you like to use. Or if all else fails, then pick the social media platform that's gonna be most suited to what you're trying to convey to people. So, for instance, if you're writing business books, the best place for you to be would probably be on linked him. Or perhaps Twitter. If you're writing cookbooks or gardening books, the best place for you to be would be Facebook or probably Pinterest or even Instagram. The key is to look at the platforms and understand what kind of people use the platforms and what content they're looking for. And that's where you're gonna find your audience. So I'm gonna give you some examples of just what I've done just so you can get a basic idea of how to get started. And mind you, I don't do Aton of social media marketing. I do a little bit, and I do a little bit of networking through social media, primarily with Facebook. But if you're already established on one of these platforms, then you may as well start to use that network to connect with people and send eyeballs to your books. So let's look at Pinterest first, and this is my very old Pinterest page, which I have done very little with. But you can see this is my old pottery on the wheel Petrus page that they used to use for promoting my pottery on the wheel dot com website. So, for instance, if you were writing about pottery, this would be a great way to go about it. You could start posting photos of your work, and then every once a while you could create a board or a pin that had a link to your book , especially if you have a new book coming out, then you'd want to kind of create some build up for it, share some photos from the book or share preview of the cover maybe before it comes out. If you have a website, you could link to a little preview of the book on the website, maybe have some pictures, maybe. Ah, little excerpt from the book that will catch people's attention, that kind of thing to start to build some momentum around it. But one of the most important things to remember with any kind of social media is that you're not so much selling as you are building an audience. And in order build an audience. You really have to spend some time on the platform. You have to engage with people you have to share frequently and by frequently. That could be every day or every week. But if you're sharing less than once a week, then you're probably not going to really engage very many followers and you're not going to actively build a following. So that's something important to keep in mind. But let me just show you what I've done just is a really quick and simple example, and I wouldn't necessarily follow this, but at least I can show you the results that I've gotten even from just throwing some stuff up on Pinterest. So what I did was I create a board within my pottery on the will page called Books about stuff. I just wanted to have a place to post all my books on Pinterest. Now, if you are going to get involved in this, what you really should do is create a custom page dedicated to your specific field. So if you're in the gardening than you should create your own gardening page, and then you could have a specific board dedicated to your gardening books. But anyway, when we click into this, you'll see it just has all these books in here. And what happens is people come onto Pinterest. They see these images. They like them, their interest in them and they share, Um, so you can see most of these have only been pinned once, so that was, you know, nothing's really happened with them. But if you scroll down a bit, you'll see a few of these. We find Scroll down here. So, like this dog book, it's got seven pins and a couple of likes you can see my pottery book has been pinned 27 times and liked a few times. You'll find that usually the visually stunning longs of the ones that get shared around on Pinterest. So, for instance, this wine guide, which I created that cover myself when I was feeling ambitious one day, and I think it's really cool looking. And apparently other people do, too, because that's been paying 173 times. And, like two Bunches Well, you can see this. Ah, you can see this skinny jeans, vegan anti aging solution book that one's been pinned and like two Bunches Well, and then this is the one that always catches me by surprise again, I've done nothing to promote this or anything. I just put this picture with a link to my survival guide for first year teachers, and something about that cover has just caught a lot of probably, you know, first time or second year teachers who are really just getting started and you can see that that's been re penned 8.9000 times and liked by 684 people. So that's just basically free viral advertising for that book, and it might not result in a ton of sales, but it still helps a lot to get the word out. It's one more way to help your book, Get found and imagine how much buzz you can generate around something like this. If your whole Pinterest page is dedicated to teaching tips and you're really engaging with an audience of teachers, imagine how much interest you're going to get from a pin like this when people see a cover like that. So that's Pinterest. Let's take the look real quick at Facebook, and there are a lot of ways to do things with Facebook. You can create a page, a Facebook page. You can create a Facebook group, or you can use your own personal Facebook profile. I personally don't use my personal Facebook profile because I just use that more for personal reasons. Friends, family and what not, But I've created a couple of different pages. This one is my passive income project page, so that's dedicated to a website that I have, which I'll talk about Mawr in one of the other lectures on marketing. And again, with this, I've hardly done anything to promote it, because it really just isn't. My focus is more on the passive income project blawg and the email list associated with it . But if someone is looking for me on Facebook where they're looking for passive income ideas . Then at least they have a chance to find me and know that I have a presence there, and then then that will get them back to my website. And I have my WordPress blocks set up, so that just automatically posts and this one I posted manually, you can see that I've actually boosted this post, which means I have spent $5 to get this post to reach more people. But to be honest, I really I was just doing that as an experiment, and I don't necessarily recommend it unless you really study how to do it. Because it may seem cool that I've reached 411 people, but what I was trying to do is get people to subscribe to my blawg email list. And out of those 411 people, I've received zero sign ups, So essentially, I just threw away $5. So you really have to know what you're doing if you're gonna be boosting posts on Facebook . But the cool thing about this is let me scroll down a little more basically whenever I post on my blog's it just this set up to automatically post to this Facebook page. So it's to see it says new post outsourcing Kindle e books for the law. And that just again provides. You know, anyone who happens to be on my social media or looking for me on Facebook to find my posts and be able to follow them like them, or at least click the link back to my block. Now you can also create groups on Facebook if you're trying to build a community, this is a great way to get a bunch of people really interacting with you and with each other. And essentially, just create a group around your chosen subject matter and invite people to join the group. Then you could do the same thing where you just linked back to products or books or links to your website to increase engagement from the people in your group. And finally, you could use your own personal Facebook profile page to build a brand around yourself, and I will just share a word of caution in one sense that can work really well because you engage friends and family and people who are already within your network. But the thing you want to be a little bit careful about is that that is going to then brand you specifically. As like, for instance, if you're doing gardening, that's going to brand you as a gardener, and it could make it very challenging for you to change directions. If, at some point say, a year from now, you decide you want, oh, publish business books or woodworking books, then you already have a following in your personal profile for gardening, and that can be hard to change gears. So it's just something to think about before you commit to, you know, building your personal brand directly around your own Facebook profile rather than creating a new page or a new group that separate. So that's Facebook real quick. I'm just gonna talk about lengthen and Twitter. So linked in is a place where you'd go for things that arm or professional or business related. So if you have, if you were teaching people how to network or how to increase their office productivity or anything like that, then Lincoln would probably be the place you want to go and then Twitter is great if you like to do quick little check ends. It's great for trending content if you're into sports or entertainment or current events than it's a great place to be able to kind of quickly share that and build an audience that way. When the one I didn't mention was Instagram and Instagram, you're gonna be a little similar to Pinterest, where you it's gonna be like more of a visual appeal. But again, just to recap, if you're already on social media, used the social media platform that you already like and start to grow it to reflect your brand. If you're not, then just take a moment to think about what sort of books you're publishing, what the subject matter or the category is for your books, and then choose the social media that best fits that category. 3. YouTube Kindle eBook Marketing: OK in this video. I want to talk to you about marketing your E books and building a brand on YouTube. I'm sure I don't even need to say this, but YouTube is huge. A lot of people, if they're going to search for something. If they wanted in video form, they'll just skip right past Google and do the search right inside of YouTube. So it's a really powerful way to get your information or your brand in front of an audience . There are a couple of things that YouTube conduced for you that are similar to social media as well. The one of them is subscribers, and you can see here we're on my pottery Channel on YouTube, and if you look up in the left hand corner here, you'll see 1503 subscribers. The beauty of having all those subscribers is that whenever I publish a video to my YouTube channel, YouTube sends out a notification to those subscribers, letting them know that there's new content. So once you gain some momentum on YouTube, it gets easier and easier to reach people with new content that you post and similar to social media, keep in mind that YouTube isn't as much about just straight selling your product as it is about building community and building your network with people who are interested in your subject, so that when you do promote something occasionally there so engaged and so connected to you and your information that they're highly likely to be interested in a book that you're promoting as well. So a couple of strategies I'll share you with you that are really important is number one. On the supplies to anywhere that you're marketing yourself is to fill out your profile completely, so make sure you have a header photo. Make sure you have a profile picture. Make sure that when they go to your channel page, which will if I click on for new visitors, this is basically my introductory page. You can see I have an introductory video and I have ah, little description of what to expect there. And then, of course, I have a link to my website. But make sure that's all filled out so that they can see that you're serious and that your professional and that you actually care about their viewing experience now real quickly. Let me give you some strategies on your actual videos. The first thing you need to know is your video just needs to provide some value to your viewers. So let me just click on any old video here. I'm gonna pause it so I'm not talking over myself. But Number one is that your video provides value and that you're not just plugging your book or plugging your product. If you're trying to promote your book, then what you want to do is you want to create videos that are related to the subject of your book that people will find valuable. This creates your audience, your followers, and then they're looking and waiting for new content from you because you've already proven that you can provide them value. And if you continue to deliver quality content to them, then they'll be more inclined to engage with your book promotion when you do it, so you need to focus on the key words in your title. Make sure that it includes words that are related to the subject that people are looking for. So in this case, I have throw a big pottery bowl and then I have Pottery wheel as keywords in there. Make sure that you include links back to your website or to your E books. Whatever your sales funnel is the flow that you want the your readers and your followers to follow to get to your book eventually so you could have them go back to your website where you have an opt in form for your email. And you basically say, You know, if you'd like to learn more set up for my email and then you can share more information through email and then promote your book, it's great to reply to every comment that you get on your videos. If you really want O build your YouTube channel and create a community, they're similar to social media. Then keep up on these comments and just a short replies. All you need to do. I want to actually show you a different video struh this one. But a couple of things I want to point out here is that if you look in the sidebar, you'll see that it's suggesting my videos. Here's one. Here's one. Here's one scroll up. Here's one and here's one in this spot right here is really important CS is up next auto play. This particular video is in a playlist, and because it's in a playlist, YouTube is going toe automatically. Just feed videos from that playlist into the viewer here until the person goes over here and clicks on something else or hits the back button or does another search. And that's a really powerful way to get a lot of views and a lot of you time on your videos and view. Time is critical because that's one of the major ways that YouTube determines which videos to put in front of people when they search. So going back to my channel, then if I click over here, it will take me to my playlists so you can see that I have a whole bunch of playlists here and a couple of these air. Little sparse one Video is not enough to make a playlist, but my intention is to continue adding videos to those. But this one has 4 13 86697 19 and 10 and five videos in all of these lists. So whenever somebody clicks on a video starts watching it, it's going to automatically suggest that they watch more videos, so that's really important. You may have noticed. Sometimes if you do a search, it will actually bring up in the search results rather than all individual videos. Sometimes it will bring you a playlist as an option. So if you do a search for pottery, making it very well could bring up this playlist right here as an option for you to choose and then watch that playlist so very powerful. So definitely focus on creating quality videos and putting them into playlists, because that will help and besides that just continue to publish regular content so again similar to social media. If you publish a video every couple of days or every week, YouTube's not quite as bad as, say, Twitter, where you need to publish all the time. But if you publish a video even once every two weeks on YouTube, then you'll continue to engage your subscribers and grow your list and provide value to them so that when you do want to promote your book, you then haven't engaged following and as far as your actual promotion. So if I wanted to promote my pottery book in a specific video, obviously you can see that I haven't done that. I really just include links and my descriptions, but you could actually create a video that was a summary of the book as long as it's providing value as a standalone video. So, in other words, you could take an excerpt from your book and you could create a video about it teaching someone something about pottery from the book and that would stand as a standalone video without coming across a spammy or just as a blatant promotion. And then, of course, at the end you could say, Hey, by the way, this tip or this strategy that I've just taught you is from my new book, you know, Potter on the will for beginners, and if you want to check it out, then go to the description below and click on the link and you can find the book. And YouTube is always coming up with new and better ways for people to engage with your videos. And one example is, I think, at the end of this video yep, you'll see a call out, and essentially, that just is a pop up that comes into the video and what I recommend having this do is go to a subscription page. So if I click on this, it's gonna take me to a new page, which is the home page for my channel and a new person congee. Oh, and subscribe right there. And what they would actually see is this cause they'd be a new visitor. So they see my intro video, and then they have the option to subscribe. So that's what you want to do with this count. Call out. And actually, what it's called is an annotation. So you create the annotations here, and then the other one is cards. That's kind of the newer thing from YouTube, and I'm sure, you know, in another year it'll change and they'll have some other version. But the cards are right up here, and if you click on the card, then it will suggest in this case I'm having it suggest the playlist for large pottery projects because obviously they're watching a thing about how to throw a big bowl. So it seems logical that they would be interested in this. So again, if they click on that, it opens in a new window, and it brings them to my entire playlist for large pottery projects. Okay, so that those air really important things to use Because otherwise, when they get done with your video and one thing don't make these obnoxious. This is pretty big, and you don't want to get much bigger than that. I'm pushing the envelope a little bit on that, but they don't need to be. Super flashy is just a kind invitation, you know, saying like in this case, a click for more pottery videos? Because if you don't have these things here, or there is not a little snippet at the end of your video saying, Hey, thank you for watching if you want to Seymour, you know, go down to the description and and click on a link to my website or whatever than what they're gonna do when they're done is. It's either going to go straight to the next one, which hopefully is going to be a video from your playlist or they're just gonna go right over here and click on something else, and that may or may not be one of your videos. So put those in there to capture those, because the more subscribers you have, the more likely it is that when you post that one video that has the little excerpt from your book that a lot of people are gonna engage with that click on the links to your book and either get you more free downloads. That for doing a free promotion, which means more reviews for your book on Amazon or if you're already finished with your free promotion and you're actually selling your book than it will result in, hopefully more sales. So that's how you build a channel growing audience and promote your books on YouTube. 4. Marketing Kindle eBooks on a Blog or Website: OK in this video, let's talk about promoting your e book through a website or a block. If you're going to have a serious online presence, then your viewers or readers are going to expect you to have a website or a block. This is where they can go to learn more about you, learn more from you and to just connect with you in a number of different ways. And obviously, it's a great opportunity for you to bring in new readers and new viewers and refer those people to your book. So let's take a look. At example, of a couple of my websites. This one is actually my blawg, the Passive Income project, and I use this block kind of as a hub for all of my ideas and for a lot of my students and eBook readers to visit me and kind of see what I'm up to. Lately, it also has specific references to kindle e book publishing and you to be course creation so that those particular people can click on those pages and really learn mawr. Get a lot of value from me that they aren't paying for, and then I can build their trust, and then when it comes time to share a product with them, they've already been learning a lot from me for free from the block, so usually have pretty good success. So probably the most obvious way to promote a book on your website would be just to add a link to it. If we scroll down here, you'll see that I actually have an opt in form to my email and emails, a topic for an entirely different video. But if I wanted to just straight up sell my book from my blawg, I could actually just put the book here and hadn't have an Amazon link of an affiliate link going straight to Amazon to purchase my book. In this case, I'm trying to get people onto my email that's more important to me than selling books. So it's an opt in for my email, but I will show you if you look at my Blawg here, you can see I have a block post about my most recent book on Amazon. So this image has a length straight to kindle, and then it has actually kind of the description of the book and that it actually has an excerpt from the book. So this is all S e O. So if people are looking for how to write titles, they confined this article. I read about it, get to know my writing style and see if it's something that works for them and then they can. You know, when they get down to the bottom, there's an option for them again to click on the Amazon link, and when they click on this, it opens it up into a new window. You'll notice. I do disclaim that this is an affiliate link. I think it's best to be just straightforward and honest. You can also have a an entire page on your blawg dedicated to, you know, disclaimers for your affiliate links. And then anyway, if they click on this, it opens it in a new tab, and you just go straight to my book and then have the option to buy it. So that's one way to do it. I'll show you another example from my pottery website here. So again, kind of my priority now is email Upton. So I have the email Upton here. But if you go into some of my other pages, like Top 10 lists, you'll notice right below the email. Upton. It's got a little promo for my despicable five pottery book. And again, if you click on this, it just goes straight to the books page on Amazon, and I do get a number of sales using that. I used to have this more prominently displayed up here, and I got even more sales that way. But I'm really into experimenting with email marketing, So I'm trying to provide more free content to people these days. And obviously the difference is this one is a website, and you can see it's an older website. That design is pretty old, and then this one is a block, so that has some permanent pages. But then it also has all of the block content. But the important thing to do to create traffic for your blog's or your website is to continue publishing content. So if we go to my blawg here we scroll down. You'll see that every week or two, I'm creating a new article or publishing a new article on the blawg, and then I'm just sharing it with people on social media. This particular blawg through WordPress. You can set it up to connect with Facebook, so you're blawg will automatically be posted on Facebook. So what that does is if you have followers on Facebook than it will alert them to the fact that you have a new article, so you'll get traffic. That way, you'll also get some S E O. Depending on how you have your Facebook page set up, you can get some organic search traffic through Facebook coming and visiting your articles , where you can also send links out to your email list that you have new articles as well. And then that way your previous subscribers will come spend more time on your website or blawg and basically boost it. But the more content you put out there using quality keywords and a CEO, the more likely you are to get organic traffic. You can also share links with other bloggers if they're bloggers that you know and trust, who would be interested in sharing one of your articles or a link to one of your articles with their followers? Then you can get traffic that way, and Google likes to see those links. You can also reach out to other bloggers, which, to be honest, I'm kind of lazy about, and I don't do much, But you can reach out to other bloggers and just let them know what you offer and how you provide value to your readers and how your content would be valuable to their readers and ask them to share a link back where you can even offer to write an article for their blawg as a guest. Or you can offer you know, for instance, of free e book that their readers can download by clicking to your site or that kind of thing. A couple of notes on kind of how to design your website. I'm definitely not a professional website designer, but my number one bit of advice would be to keep it simple and clean. You can see here I basically have the home page, my blawg, a place for people who want to create you. Timmy courses a place for people who want to publish Kindle books on about me page and a way to contact me. You could also do as Pat Flynn says, you could do a resource is Page that has basically all of the resource is, or software or other things that you know and love, and you can use affiliate links there and that congenital TsUM income. I actually, I'm going to create one of those I just haven't yet, but make sure that when they land on your page, it's pretty clear what your pages about notice. I don't have a lot of different things, like popping up. I don't have, like flashing ads all around in the sidebars here. I don't have too many pictures here where you get confused and aren't sure what to even look at and then make sure that you have some text above the fold, as it's called the full being. This bottom line here. If, for instance, you couldn't see this headline right here that you just see this image, it's less tempting to scroll down and see what this website is actually about. But when you can see that headline and you answer that question in your head, are am I ready to learn how to create passive income? Well, maybe so. They start to scroll down, and then you can start to read, and that's the ultimate goal is you want to get people to actually start reading and engaging with your content because once they scroll down to here and they start looking and seeing things, then it is okay to do a pop up, which looks sort of like this. And if they like what they've been reading so far, then they're gonna look at this and say, Heck, why not? I'd love a free e book. I'm definitely into learning about five powerful passive income ideas, so why not? And then they can subscribe if they want. Of course, they can keep reading and click on recent posts and so on and so forth. If they get curious enough, they'll want to learn more about you. They'll click on the about you page, and when you get into your about me page make it personal. There should be a picture of you so they can see who you are. You would be great to do a video here. In fact, you could create a video for a YouTube channel even and post the video on your about me page. You could do it on your home page as well. Video is becoming so common and popular these days that that would be a really good way to connect with them. But it should at least tell your story. You don't want to go on tangents about random tidbits of your life, but you want to tell your story as it relates to what you're promoting. So in my case, I'm promoting my passive income book, and I'm promoting my passive income courses and other books like my content is King book. And so I'm going to talk about how I like to make money. I'm going to talk about how even a dork can create passive income and I'm gonna make it personal. I'm going to tell them my story how I went from really just having crappy jobs all the time , to be able to live off of passive income. And that's really important to share with people. And then I'm kind of getting into, like, you know, kind of a call to action at the end. We're under saying, basically, what can I do to help you? I know that you're interested in this. What would you like to create out of this and let me see how I can help you? And then, of course, you know, at this point, you could either promote a book. This would be a relevant time. Say, Hey, look, this is my most recent book. If you want to hear more about what I've just been talking about, then check it out. Or in this case, I'm inviting them to learn more from me from my emails. So that's how you do the about me page. It's also really important on your blogger website to link out to relevant valuable resource is for your readers, so that could actually be links to your YouTube channel. It could be links to another video on someone else's YouTube channel. In one case on my blawg on my content is King Page. You'll notice I'm talking about writing titles, right? So down here at the bottom, I link out to a tool that I absolutely love. The headline analyzer Atco schedule dot com. So they click on this, and it brings them to, and that should actually probably open a new tab. But they could type in their headline, and it will analyze their headline for them. So it's a really quick, easy thing for them to use, but it just adds value to their experience because if they see that I'm sharing something that really helps them, then they're they're gonna just appreciate me as a blogger and be more likely to then, you know, click on this link as well. Speaking of clicking on links, it's really important to keep things simple not only in your design but in your call to action. So see how I have this link here and then I have this link down here that's almost too many links at the bottom of the of a page. It's very tempting to put like, four links down here and say, Well, here, here's my continence King book. And also I have a continous king course on you to me and put a link to that and then say, Oh, also, you know, I have ah kindle publishing course on you. To me, if you want, check that out. You know, you put all these links and then they just look at them all and they get overwhelmed and there's like I don't even know what I'm supposed to do. And then they go up and click the search bar and go try and find something else about passive income but where I'm pretty clear here about, you know, this whole article is about an excerpt from my Continous King book, and then it just flows and leads right into me saying, Hey, if you want to actually get a copy, go ahead and check it out. So keep that really simple, but really think about the navigation of your blog's or your website so you're creating a friendly flow so that people can you know the land on the first page of your thing, and they'll have a good flow of where to go and what to do. And if you haven't tried a WORDPRESS website or blawg, I definitely recommend trying WordPress. It's probably the most user friendly platform out there, and a lot of people will tell you that it's really, really easy to get started, and in a sense it is. But if you've never done website creation before, then it does take a little bit of getting used to because you have toe arrange all these elements on your page. And even though it is kind of dragon drop, you still need to preview what you're creating as you go, and it takes a little bit of practice to get it just right. And the other challenges. It's always something you can improve, you know, like I'm sitting here looking at this. I'm going. I have to book images right here. That's way too much. So really, I need to go back into this one and pull that out of there to simplify this page so that you really just focusing on the one book. But that's just a part of the process, and you work through those things as Ugo. But WordPress is nice in that it has so many options, and you can either be really complex with and do all kinds of awesome bells and whistles like, you know, things like this. Like adding a Weber or ah, another sort of email. Opt in that pops up on your screen, which these convert really well. Or you can do it as simply as just, you know, adding a little form over to the side. We're just having really simple headlines and text without getting too complicated, so that's kind of how to do websites or blog's to promote your book in on that shelf 5. Using Email Lists and Autoresponders to Market Kindle eBooks: OK in this video, I want to talk to you about how to market your e book. Using an email list, I would probably classify marketing with email lists as a more advanced marketing strategy . So what is an email list? It's basically just a collection of email addresses from people who are interested in you or your products or your information. And even though a lot of things like Social Media and YouTube have come along to sort of steal the limelight from email marketing, if you talk to many, many experts and successful people in the realm of Internet marketing, you will hear them all say that the email list is still one of the most important part of their marketing strategy. The reason that's so important is that it's such a direct way to connect with people who are following you. An email Marketing companies are getting better and better at setting up things like segmenting lists and sorting your subscribers and doing auto responder sequences that it just makes email marketing incredibly effective. So what's an auto responder? You may have heard this word before, but a lot of people have some confusion about it on auto responder is a Siris of email messages that you send out to your subscribers at a regular interval. So a very common way to do this is when they subscribe to your email list. For example, if someone goes to my passive income project website and they scroll down to here and they sign up for my list to get my free E book that put in their name in their email, they hit Submit, they'll receive an email asking them to confirm that they want to be on my list. This is called a double opt in, and it's just a extra security thing so that you're not spamming people. And then once they confirm that, then they're on my list. They'll immediately get the first email from me, which includes the free e book that have promised and just a little welcome and an introduction. Then I set some expectations, and I let them know that I'm gonna be sending them regular emails teaching them about passive income. So then in another three days, they get another email, and then in another four days they get another email, all of which are sort of adding to their knowledge base and giving them ideas and prompts to get moving in the direction of creating passive income. Now all of these emails are set up ahead of time. I've written them all, and they're all stored on a Weber, which is the company that I used to send out the emails, and they're sent to each subscriber on those regular intervals. Now I could also go in and send out what's called a broadcast email where I send out a specific email to everyone. That is not part of the auto responder sequence. So, for instance, when I was releasing my content is King book and I wanted to get feedback from my email subscribers. I sent out a broadcast message that just went to everyone, but it wasn't an automated message, and it wasn't within an auto responder sequence. But the auto responder is really one of the magical things about email because, as most people find when they create an email list, especially at the beginning, when you only have maybe one or two or five, or maybe even 20 subscribers to your email list, it's really hard to continue to write content to create emails to send out to the subscribers to keep them interested and to keep educating them. But the auto responder sequence allows you to automate that process so that they continue to get that valuable information that evergreen content without you having to reinvent the wheel every time you send out an email. That brings me to the point of how many messages should be in your auto responder sequence . A lot of people make the mistake of only sending out one or two messages. And in the case of this free e book, if I just sent out one message and shared my free e book with them, that would be great, and I would be helping them out. But if I just leave it there that have essentially lost their interest, lost them as a potential customer, and I haven't provided any additional value for them. So by continuing to send them messages on a weekly basis or so I'm able to continue to educate them. I can send them back to my blawg to read articles. I can send them to courses I've created. I could send them to e books and then every once a while I could either ask for an e book sale or I can. What I like to do is I can ask for feedback, and many of you are on my email list, so you'll recognize this when I send out my free E book and ask for feedback and then eventually asked for reviews. It's a great way for me to improve the writing of my book based on my target audience, but it's also a great opportunity for my followers or my subscribers to get involved in the process and to get a free book out of the deal, so that really works out well to do that. But you have to continue sending things to them to keep them kind of engaged. Now there are a couple of variations of ways that you can send out your messages, and it really depends a lot on your subscribers. For instance, if I create an email list and the opt in is basically like, get free E books, sign up for my email list, then it would be appropriate for every email that I send out to include a link to a free e book. So if my goal is to get more reviews and more viewers of various e books, and that would be very effective in other scenarios, such as with my passive income website. My goal is to teach people and to learn from them. So for me to send out promotions for free E books, all the time would be the wrong way to go. For me, it's better to send links to articles on my blawg or to send free courses or to share free e books and ask for feedback, because that's valuable to me. But even in that scenario, it's definitely okay every say 3 to 5 emails that I send out for something to be somewhat promotional So I could introduce people to a new book that I have on Amazon if it's relevant to what they're learning, and I could invite them to buy it, or I could put it on a discount like a 99 cent discount and promoted to my email subscribers. As long as I'm spending another 3 to 5 messages giving them good value, that's a pretty reasonable and timely offer and then another version that I like a lot is actually from Pat Flynn from smart Passive income. He calls it the Pat Flynn email sequence, where he essentially just sends out free, quality, valuable information constantly. And he does link back to his Blawg and to his podcast in various other places. But the idea for him is that he's just building value for people, and he's building trust. And he's creating this awesome tribe of loyal email followers that are consuming his content like crazy. So every time he links back to his blawg from his email list, a ton of people go to the Blawg and read more, which boost the blog's S CEO. It makes it look good with Google and gives the subscribers valuable content. And he's just building a really loyal, trusting following that way. So that's another way. Do so, you can either just do kind of like sell, sell, sell, offer, offer offer. If you have the right audience, like people who are looking for E books like free books or books to buy, or you can do a combination of a little bit of information and then an occasional sales pitch, or you could just do pure information like the Pat Flynn style and really just build a loyal, trusting, following. But again, the important part is to remember, Don't just do one or two messages. I would say you want to do at least 5 to 10 messages. 20 or 30 messages would be better, and at first that seems overwhelming. But the mawr valuable content and the more offers that you're sending out, the more successful you're going to be as long as it's still relevant and valuable. Now the beauty is you don't have to do that right away. You can start with one or two emails, and you can build up to it. But the most important thing you can remember from this entire video is to get started on your email list right away. Many people, including myself, have looked back two years ago and realized that they lost hundreds or thousands of subscribers by not setting up their email on their blawg or website years ago. Setting up your auto responder sequences takes a lot of work and refining and practice, but it's never gonna be perfect. So if you set it up right away and get a couple of messages on there, you'll get the ball rolling. You can start to build subscribers as you build your auto responder sequence and start to add messages and add articles or links to your blog's or promotional links to your books on Amazon and so forth. And before you know it, you'll have a sizable even a list that could really create a lot of engagement from a very dedicated following. Now specific T E books. One thing that is a good idea is to have in your e book somewhere, either at the beginning or the end, a little bit about you and Justin Invitation that says something like Seymour about me or this topic at my blawg or at my website and include the link. And then when they come to your website, you'll want tohave an opt in so that if they do want to be part of your email list, they have a really obvious opportunity to do that. Because readers of your book are already a targeted audience, they're already interested in what you're writing about, so it just makes sense to capture their interest and capture their email so that you can then share more information with them and send them offers for other books. So there's a lot of debate out there as to which email marketing company to go with. Some of the top names are male chimp because you can get started with male chimps for free . You can't do an auto responder sequence for free. That's a paid upgrade, but you can do opt ins and you can start to gather email addresses using mail. Chimp A Weber is probably the number one right now, and that's who I use is the a Weber Dashboard a Weber. At the moment it's $19 a month to get started, and then as you increase in subscribers, the price goes up. So that does seem like a big chunk. And and it was a big stretch for me to get started in that. But I started just a number of months ago, and you can see I'm already up to 759 subscribers. So the amount of engagement that that $19 a month has created amount of feedback I received reviews for my books and enrollments in my courses has has been an incredible value for me . So it's a Weber is a really popular, and they, of course, have all the auto responder sequences, and they're getting a little more advanced. Now. They're coming out with things called campaigns and list sorting, and you can set up automation rules there quite a few things if you want to get really advanced with it, to sort your subscribers until different lists based on actions they take like links, they click or purchases they make on your website and so forth. So there a lot of options there with a Weber. Another one is convert Kit, and I believe that's the one that Pat Flynn recommends that he started using a while back. I have another friend who uses that one and is very happy with it. It's probably a little bit more advanced than a, however. Even there are some additional features that you can use with it to sort your lists and the price is very competitive, and then another one is get response and I have not looked into get responsive time. But it is a very popular option. A lot of people are using it, and I've seen a lot of good reviews about it. But I would say if you are just based on my personal experience, if you are really ready to get started with an auto responder sequence, go with a Weber, and if you are at the point where you're ready to spend the money each month for it, then I would go with the free version of mail chimp and just at least get a opt inform started and start collecting those email addresses and building that list so that when you're ready to switch over to, say, a Weber or convert kit and start an auto responder sequence that you already have ah, following So again, The most important takeaways regarding email marketing is to start right away, collecting those email addresses. And don't stop with just one or two messages. Create if you can 10 or 20 email messages in a sequence that go out on a weekly basis so that you could really build engagement and so you can really connect with your audience. 6. How Amazon Advertising Campaigns Work: okay. And this lecture, I want to show you how to do an ad campaign through Kindle direct publishing. And I've done some really minor testing of it, and so far my testing has worked out Great. Now I'm not promising that it's gonna work for you, and I'm certainly not guaranteeing that it's gonna work. But I want to show you how to do it, so that if you wanna give this a shot and see how it works for you, then you know how so here I am in the Kindle direct Publishing dashboard. And of course, you have your bookshelves, your reports, your community and your KDP select. Right now, I'm in the reports where you can view all your different sales reports. But if you look down here, you'll see this ad campaigns so real quickly. I want to show you the results that I've had from my limited experiments with these ad campaigns. And then we'll go into actually creating one from scratch. So you want to click on this part? And what this shows is all the advertising campaigns that you currently involved in and have done in the past, so you can see there to hear that I just started a few moments ago that don't even have any activity at all. But then the five down here are the ones that have already gone all the way through their ad campaign, and they are finished. So these are the ones that I want to talk to you about, and here are the important areas to look at. So I mean, obviously, this is the name of my campaign. So this is for a book 21 simple kids graphs. It shows you the type of campaign. So I went with a product display where it targets other products similar to yours, and then it shows you the dates when it happened. It shows you your budget and you'll notice that you have to commit a minimum of $100. And at first that was very intimidating to me because I assumed that meant that if it didn't work or if I didn't end up spending $100 that they would just charge me $100. But in reality, what I found was that if the campaign didn't go up to $100 in other words, if I didn't get enough clicks on my advertising for me to spend $100. Then it only charged me the amount that I actually spent. So in most these case, you can see I only want to spending a couple of dollars because the campaigns were really surprisingly slow. They didn't really reach a lot of people, or at least not enough to get Aton of clicks. So you can see here. This is how much I spent, and it keeps kind of a running total through the campaign. This is the number of impressions that your ad had on Amazon. So this advertisement was actually exposed to 213,000 people, and out of those 213,000 124 people clicked on the price per click that I paid toe. Have these ads run is two cents per click. So those 124 people that clicked out I was charged to Sen teach. Hence, the $2.48 and two cents is the minimum amount that you can opt to click. If you pay mawr, you'll get more clicks faster, but then you're paying more so in my opinion, it's better to be a little bit patient or find other ways to get more clicks than to spend more per click. Oh, and then the D. P V is the detailed page views. And so this is the number of times that they can attribute the view of your page to an advertisement. So essentially it's saying that's a few people 2024 people didn't click on my ad, but they still went to my page. Maybe through another means, so that's just kind of informative. And then this is how much they estimate that you made in sales from those clicks. So to sum this all up, it means that 213,000 people saw my ad. 124 people clicked on it, and the book is $2.99. So two people actually wanted buying the book. And if we do the math on this, we know that I make a 70% royalty on each of the books. So on each book I would have made a little bit over $2 So that means my total income from those sales is over $4. So the only when we compare this with the total amount that I spent $2.48. That means that from this campaign I spent $2.48 and I received $4 worth of income. So I actually made a dollar 71 on the campaign. So that's a profitable campaign. And if I could exposed this to, you know, 13 million people and have the same income to expense ratio than I would make a lot of money on this ad campaign. But let me break down a couple of other ones. So on this one, I spent $3.82. I had 100 91 people click on my at, and I made $7 in sales. So this book is priced at $3.49. So I know that I also sold two of this book and on each of those books and make about $2.44 which means that I had a total income of $4.88. Then when you go back over here, you can see that I spent $3.82 so If we take my total income, which was $4.88 and subtract what I spent on the advertising, then we have just over a dollar worth of profit. So again, if I could do that over and over and over and still have the same income to expense ratio, I would make a lot of money. And then we can go down to the Southern Book and you can see this one had a lot smaller reach. It only reached 26,000 people that had a much higher rate of click throughs. So I had 100 klicks and an income of $8.97 and this one is also at the 70% rate. So I made over $6 of income from those books after Amazon takes its cut, and then you compare that to my expenses of only $2 that means I made a profit of $4 on this campaign. So that's a really good one. So even though these air really small results, the income on every scenario was really good. So that's why I'm going to try this a whole bunch more on a larger scale to see if the results stay the same. So now you've seen what the reports page looks like. Let's look at creating a new campaign and see what that looks like. So when you're in your advertising campaigns, it takes you here where you select a book to advertise. So you basically search for one of your books and you'll notice that next to a lot of these , if I scroll a little bit, it says, Ineligible, Ineligible, ineligible. The reason for that is none of these books are enrolled in KDP Select. And in order to use one of Amazon's advertising campaigns, you have to have your book enrolled in KDP Select. So the thing I'll need to do first is decide on the book that I want to market, and I need to go enrolling in KTB Select. So I'm gonna go back to my main menu here and go to my bookshelf, and I'm going to search for on author Eric Puting, and I'm going to promote this book growing and cooking herbs. So first I have to enroll in KDP Select. So I click on that and I click and roll. That is gonna bring me to the book page and give me some options here. And really one of the only benefits, in my opinion, of being part of KTB select, other than being able to run an ad campaign is being able to run a price promotion. So while I'm in here, I'm going to go ahead and run a free book promotion because, as I've talked about throughout the course, you can offer your book for free for five days, so I may as well take advantage of that long here. So I'm doing February 1st through February 5th. I'm going to save the changes. Okay, so now you understand the numbers and you have your book enrolled in KDP Select. So now you're ready to go ahead and create an ad campaign, and that's what I'm going to show you in the next video, which is part two of this lesson on how to create an Amazon advertising campaign 7. Creating a Profitable Amazon Advertising Campaign: Okay. So in the previous lecture, I gave you a tour of the advertising campaign reports. And so you have a basic understanding of how the numbers and how the process works. And you've enrolled your book in KDP Select. So it's eligible. Now I can go create an ad campaign for this and it'll take me right in here. Or I could go back into this screen where I can search for a book to advertise, and I can search for Eric viewing. And it'll bring up that book as well as his other books. And it will give me the option now to select it, because it's in KDP Select. So I'm gonna go ahead and select it, and then this is where it gets interesting and this is the part I really want to walk you through. So the first option it gives you is how you want to target your ad and you could target by interest or by product. Now I'm gonna recommend going by product and I'll show you why? Because if you go by interest and you scroll down a bit, it's a very basic kind of ad. You're basically saying, OK, well, this is, Ah, gardening book. See, in this case, it doesn't even have a good specific category for gardening. I don't think crafts, hobbies and home. You could put it a general add under crafts, hobbies at home. And so that means that it's going to just kind of shotgun target, various books under the craft, hobbies and home heading. So this might be advertising your book Teoh people who are into knitting and pottery under craft, and people who are looking at interior design and various other things on her home or like home repair stuff, and it's going to basically not be very specifically targeted. You can do this, but your results are not gonna be a specific and really, the goal here is that you want as many people as possible who are clicking on your ad and making you pay that two cents for their click to go to your book page and actually purchase your book. If a bunch of people are just clicking on your ad out of curiosity and they're not buying your book, then you're gonna be spending money and not making money so you can try this way. But I don't really recommend it. What I recommend is doing it by product. And when you go by product, then what you're doing is targeting other specific products where Amazon is gonna put your ad on that product page. So when somebody searches for, for instance, herb gardening, they're gonna find a whole list of books, and then when they click on one of those books, you could have your ad on that page so that it increases the chances of that person going to your book. So the way you do this is by searching keywords. So I'm gonna put in herbs because that is exactly what this book is about. And when I scroll down, you'll see a whole page of herb cookbooks, National Geographic Sky to medicinal herbs, 12 culinary herb seeds, homegrown herbs. And you can go in if you want, and you can go and pick these out individually and add them to your list of targeted products and anything that's over here is where your book is gonna be promoted on Amazon. Now, if you pick a good enough keyword, then you can scroll down and see that most of these air pretty relevant herb seeds growing kit. Very relevant. The backyard herb garden. Perfect. So at this point, if they all look like they're pretty relevant and maybe there are one or two that aren't, then you're on target to just be able to say at all on this page. So it's gonna take number one through 30 of the search results and plop him over here so it's gonna advertise toe all of those now. Now I can go to the next page. You can see there are 100 and 46 results. And so it's got people looking for terrariums. Now this one is pretty. Oh, that's just a man named Herb. So, you know, we probably wouldn't want that seeing these were getting a little bit far fetched here. So what I'll probably do is change this to herb books. There we go. So now it's bringing us to cycle. Pdf verbs, organic farming and her beauty products. There we go. Now we're back on track here, so I'm going to just go at all on this page. Go to the next page, make sure it's pretty well relevant. Foraging for herbs flavored butter recipes using herbs? Yep. Good stuff again If you want to spend a lot of time, you can go in and add these individually. But part of the way I always try and do things is to make it more efficient. So if I can just click one button, I'm gonna much rather do that than click through everything. Okay? And again, these are all pretty relevance. Just gonna add all of them. Go to the next page. These were getting a little far fetched, so I might want to go in and add some of these just manually. So we got a few there we've got. Here we go. There's good Juan farming. That's good. Turmeric. That's not even included in the book. I'm advertising, so we won't do that. Natural remedies. That's fine into gardening, but agrees. Trumpet. You know, we don't want to advertise on a trumpet page. A bunch of things don't really work. Brick. Conceptual. Yep. None of those will work. So we're gonna skip those vegetable gardening. That's fine. We won't skip that on herbs for stress and anxiety. Sure. Yoga. Herbs. So these were getting a little out there. Some of these maybe not as relevant. Your book? No, that's not. And then to get rid of these just going and click delete. If you don't want it in there growing culinary herbs and Tanner's Perfect, Maybe what we'll do here is to is go to growing herbs. So that's part of the process. Is you trying to find really relevant, targeted subjects that you can add to this list over to the right? And the more you get, the more clicks you'll get, the more that your book will be promoted, and believe me, it seems like you'd want to just do a couple at first. And then you may as well. If you're nervous about spending a ton of money, just, you know, pick a few books. But you'll see, as has been the experience with me that even if you pick like 100 products over here, the chances are that you're only going to get a few clicks, as you can see from my results that I showed you earlier. I mean, even with 213,000 impressions and 200 clicks, it only resulted in a couple of sales and a couple of dollars spent, so it really takes a lot of this to generate very much advertising, but I'd still do recommend that you start out slowly and just kind of ease your way into it . So you feel comfortable with it. But anyway, I'm gonna go ahead and scroll, and these all looked relevant. These are all good or books, so that's a much better search. So at all those go to the next one at all, those go to the next one at all those and so on. Just to get every relevant book that we can in here, these might be starting to get kind of more farfetched. Actually, they're all still related to Herb growing. So that's great. Even if I'm advertising on like an herb Garden starter kit, that's really relevant because somebody who's looking for a starter kit this would be the perfect book for them, actually, so those kinds of things were great. I definitely want to make sure I add those case. I've added everything there. Um, I you know, I could go in and say like growing Basil, because that's really specific, but I'm probably not going to see too many results there, so we've got a good lesson so that I'm gonna keep scrolling down, and this gives you a new opportunity to name your campaign. So I wanna probably call this, Ah, herb growing book, and we'll just leave the date on there. So I know when I did that and then your cost per click and you can see it says the average bid is 36 cents to 44 cents. So you would think by looking at that that you might want to put it in, say, like, 36 or 40 cents, Which is fine if you're trying to go for the fastest campaign and get the most clicks that you can as fast as you can. But I'm a lot happier paying half the price for the clicks of two cents, which you'll notice if you put in one sense, it's going to tell you it must be two cents or more. So that's your minimum. Do you have to put in at least two cents, but I want to pay the least amount that I possibly can. Well, if you make a profit of $2 you spend a dollar 50. Imagine if you doubled what you spent and you made $2 you spent $3 to get that that you're losing money. So, in my opinion, you want to pay the lowest price that you can pay and just be a little bit more patient. You know, get mawr of these books on your list, so you have more options, and then, yeah, you're not gonna win as many of the advertising bids this way. But if you have a longer list here, you'll still reach more just by volume, not by winning the bits, and that's fine. But again, that's something that you can experiment with if you want to try and see how well you do with, ah, higher bid as well. So then you go to your campaign budget. And again, if I put in a dollar, it's going to tell me. Nope, sorry. It has to be $100 or more. So this is basically your you know, how much you want to spend, so you have to do $100. And again whenever my campaigns have only gone to, you know, $2.50. That's all the charged with is $2.50. They didn't charge me the full $100 then, of course, you need to pick dates and I try and do like, a three month span. And also, as you recall, I just entered these in Katie P and start a free promo. So I don't want to be advertising a free book. The whole point of the free said I'm getting free advertising. So I want to start this on the seventh so that I don't have any overlap. Because if I'm paying for a ton of clicks just for people to download my book for free, then I'm not getting any money back on my advertising dollars so that I'm gonna go April 30th. So that's just under three months. But that's OK. And then again, where we're doing a lower bid of two cents, we want to say, deliver my campaign as quickly as possible. In other words, just get as many ads as I can. Otherwise you can go with this, and Amazon will spread out your campaign over this course of this period of time. So if I had say, ah $100 budget and I was bidding the highest bid, so say I was doing a 44 cents bid that I'm gonna be winning a lot of bids. Maybe I don't want my whole campaign to transpire in the first three days. So then I click on this and Amazon will only bid occasionally for me and we'll try and spread it out over three months. But where were beating really super low? It's best to just do it as quickly as possible, because again, you've seen if I put in 202 150 things into my list like this, I still am only winding up spending a couple of dollars because of that little bit. So this is the way to do it. Just do it as quickly as possible. And then this is kind of new, and I'm not super thrilled about it, because before you didn't have to put this part in here. Now you have to actually do some of the work in the advertising before. It would just create your own your thing like this. But see, now, if I don't feel in a headline and text, it won't let me submit my campaign. So I actually have to put what I want here, So I'm probably going to use something from the title and then I'm going to use something from my description because those were basically my sales pieces. In that way, I don't have to reinvent the wheel. So I'm going to call this a quick start guide to growing herbs, if that will fit. Perfect. So you only have 50 characters, so that took me 34 characters. Then I have to put some Texan here, and I'm gonna go ahead and go to my Amazon page, and I will just basically grab the first tagline. We received your campaign submission. It requires approval from our moderation team, which may take up to 72 hours. Will email you when it's complete. So they just sit back and you wait to see how it goes and you can go to here and you can view your advertising campaigns that are in existence and so you can see this one right here and I spell growing wrong. Which is fine, because this is really only for my information, fortunately, right, but it shows that it's pending review, and they're waiting to decide what's gonna happen with it. And once it's once this review has gone through, its gonna say, Ready like this and you have a couple of options, you can go in here. You can edit your cost per click bid. You can edit your total budget. We can edit the duration. So that's how you create an advertising campaign through Kindle direct publishing for your Kindle books, and I'll be adding a few more of my own campaigns so that I can really test this further.
