1. Introduction to the Course: Hello. Welcome to this course. The complete introduction to data Analytic with this is going to be a really practical course where we'll get project briefs and try and answer the objective off the project by building a dashboard so quite similar to how data analysts work in real life. We're going to be using Tableau, which is a Data Analytics engine that's being so popular within the last few years. We're going to download and install a free trial of tableaux and then create five different dashboards answering five different project brief objectives. So by the end of this course, you are going to get a portfolio of dashboards that you have bought, and you can also link Thies to your resume. Bear in mind that tableau is so popular in most job postings today, you actually see it everywhere. The scores is really designed for you to think practically like a data analyst and also learn the complete Data Analytics workflow that will help you in your career. So what dashboards. I'll be going to bowled Well, we're going to build the 1st 1 which analyzes the sales often. Ika most company, called Discount, marked the second dashboard is based on survey data where we're going to have a look at a company called Green Destinations and why the employees are leaving. The third dashboard is quite a complicated but very practical dashboard where we help a sales manager keep track on how his sales agents are performing. The fourth Dashboard is a shipping dashboard from the company North Wind Trade. We're going to help the shipping manager determine what Shipman's are yet to be shipped, and the last project we're going to help 80 is a shareholder analyzed the stock prices off Tesla on tableau. We're also going to publish the staff board on tableau public. Boyd will update daily, And of course, we are going to publish all of the other dashboards on tableau public. You will get to your own portfolio of dashboards that Gil welcome to use on your resume and the most important I'll come from this is learning tableau and understanding the process off Data Analytics. Thank you so much for watching and let's get to it 2. Introduction to Tableau: Hi. So, in this, listen, we're going to answer the question. What is Tableau Tableau is an into end analytics platform, and with tableau, you can connect to a variety of data. Sources drag and drop field to create data visualizations and finally built a dashboard that you can publish and share to users or even the world. Like I said, tableaus, interface is super easy. You can use the dragon Drop method to create visualizations and analyze trends and patterns for your projects. Tableau has a wide variety of data sources that you can connect to, such as static Excel sheets, Google sheets, cloud data basis and even big data. And combining data from multiple data sources is really easy with tableau. Dashboard building is super quick, ample dashboards in minutes, and you can share them very quickly on tableau public or your own private server Tableaux shows up as one of the top business intelligence and Data analytics tools as per the Gartner Magic Quadrant. So it is a really nice platform and tool to learn to better your career and also further your knowledge in Data Analytics. So let's talk about the tableau products we have tableau desktop. Sotelo desktop is the main product. It is tableaus star Sylar, and it is the desktop application where we bowled out charts and are dashboards. Tableau Prep is quite a new product in tableau, and it's used mainly for pre processing off your data. So if you have a very complicated data workflow, where you connect to a lot of different tables and you have to do a lot of data cleaning tableau primp does that before you bring that data into your workbook, which is really great to optimize the process and to increase the speeds off your dashboard . And if you use all tricks before it is a but similar to that but a much more simple virgin so something that you should definitely check out. Tableau server and tableau online are platforms where you can publish your dashboard and have uses, view and interact with him. And lastly, tableau public is the public platform off tableau. We can also publish your dashboards, but this time it is out there into the real world, and anyone can be it. The products that we are going to work on is tableau desktop, where we are going to install the free 14 day child as well as tableau public. Basically, we are going to be giving a project brief and we're going to read through it, get the data, sit and start boarding the dashboards. Installing the Free Full Version of Tableau: Hi and welcome to this. Listen, So this is just a little clip so we can install tableau and get it up and running. It is the 14 day trial, and it's free. So it is the tableau with the full capabilities. So what you going to do is into your email address. You can use any email. It doesn't have to be a business email and click download free trial. Now just do not. If you are a student or teacher, you can get a one year free license if that applies to you as well. But I'm not a student or while technically, not a teacher. So I'm just gonna click download free trial, and we're good to go. Okay, and as you see, it shows up in your downloads. Project 1: Discount Mart (Sales and Profit Analytics): Hi. Welcome to this lecture. So the company that we're gonna be analyzing in this lecture is discounted. Mott. This is the project brief, and you can get it in. The resource is section off this lecture on the project. Pre forces cannot. So let's give a project brief. A read Discount Mart is a small supermarket owned by ground frost. He wants a dashboard where he can track how well discard Mart is doing for this year in terms of sales, profit and quantity sold. He would also like to know how well categories are performing as well as different regions . Ground frost assumes and most customers by two or more products per basket order, but would like this confirmed by the data grant. Also, not that profit is study percent off the selling price. Okay, so what does this project brief tell us? Well, we obviously need to build a dashboard in terms off sales, profit and quantity. We need to do some analysis in terms off categories, So I'm guessing product categories and different regions. So this would be geographical. And also we need to do some analysis in terms off basket size. So maybe, ah, history Graham where we create weapons. And obviously there's some profit calculation that we need to do, which is basically 30% off sales or the selling price. Okay, so now that we understand the project brief, let's get to the data. So if you go to the next page so you can download the data set, it's just a CSP. This time it will be in the resource is section off this lecture now, in terms off the logo, we are going to use the logo in a dashboard so downloaded as well. So when you are downloading the data sources and the logo at suggest maybe creating a folder for it somewhere in your computer that you can access when we open up tableau. So, for instance, I have a folder called Data Sets on my desktop, and I'm just during all my data, sits here for this course. So I have my discount mark Data sits here with my C s, A V file on my local stored. Okay, so now that we've don't noted out data sets and our logo, I think we can get ready and open up tableau. We are going to connect to our data source with tableau and introduce you to the platform. So I'll see you then by 6. Discount Mart- Connect to the Data: Hi. Welcome back. So in this listen, we are going to connect to our discount Mart data source and analyze it a bit. So to do that open tableau. So when you open to blow, this is usually what you see first. And since this may be your first time opening tableau, I'm just gonna give you a quick tour. So on the left pane is generally where you can connect to different data sources. The good thing about tableau is that they are a lot of options in terms off connecting two different data sources. You can actually connect to Tableau Server, that is tableaus product. It's their own server. And this is where you can publish reports, etcetera directly to the server. You can also connect to aesthetic files such as Microsoft Excel text files, Jason files, etcetera. You can connect to cloud service as well. So you Amazon auroras or red chefs? Maria de B zero. Now we are actually going to now we are actually going to connect to a cloud server, and I think it's the third project. And that's quite important because as a data analyst, it is obviously nice to know how to connect to cloud servers on tableau, and it's very simple. And then finally, you should have some save data sources. This is straight from tableau itself. They usually include this four tutorials, ex cetera, okay, And this big white space year generally, if you have worked on walk books, they show up here sort of like a recent files window below is some sample workbooks at tableau have available for you, and these workbooks are laid out quite nicely. So when you have some time, go over them as they offer good introduction. And on the right is always some training. Resource is, it's getting started with tableau connecting to your data exit Trust to these are free. Resource is that you can have a look at and some more resource is as well generally over here, there's some notices. As you can see, I need to update my tableau, which I should be doing soon. Okay, so now that we're a bit more acquainted with the tableau, let us connect to our data source. So remember the data source is a CSP, which is actually a text file, so weight stays to a file and text file. I want you to kick it. And once you do navigate to, we ever use towards your data. So I started in a folder called Discount Mart and you can see discovered more to see SV and click open. Okay, So as you can see now, we are in a different window to the previous one. This is often known as the data source window, so you can see on the bottom left. It says data source EEA. And this just shows you more information on the data source that you just connected to. Okay, so let's have a bit of a tour off this window. So on your left. As you can see, this is actually the connections part, and it shows you what data sources do you can connect to. You can connect to more than one data source. We actually are going to do that within the score some time. But for now, it's just one file. So if you click on this little arrow here, you can't get at the connection. So this is way. If maybe you made a mistake or you want a new updated file, you can do it. You You can also rename your data source. So instead of discount, March can call it whatever. But I'm just gonna leave it, so I'm clicking out of it. This section usually shows the tables with a new data source. So because we had one sheet which is called Discount Nazi SV, it's only showing us one and use data interpreter. So that's basically cleans your text. Follow What book? What it does is that if it sees something like much to rose, etcetera, it gets rid of them and put it in a more bitter table format. So if you duplicate it just didn't actually do anything. Just because you can see this table is pretty clean. It would help if maybe someone much to thes two rows together and call them something else in the text document that would have cleaned it. But this table is looking fine, so we don't need to use data Interpreter Union. So union is just basically a function that allows you to append data into your table. So if you had to text files for two different years that are exactly the same. But just two different years, you can create a new union and what it does is that it would have upended the two sheets moving on to the main window. As you can see, when we connected, it immediately brought in the U sheet into this pain. If we had other connections, and we could have just dragged it and dropped it, and it would have brought it into this pain as well again, this is another opportunity for you to change your title off your database if you want. Okay, so let's move downwards so you can see there's two icons here, and one just represents a little preview off the table. And if you click on this icon here, this is just a summary of the field name and the table it is from. Okay, let's go back to the table icon, where it's a sort. Fields. You have the opportunity off sorting out each of these fields into maybe alphabetical order , ex cetera, which I generally do just because it's easier to sort through. So a taste thought fields click on it now. Data source order just means how it appears on your actual data source, and we're going to switch it to something called a to Zed ascending part table. Okay, So now it's in alphabetical order. Okay, so the next thing we should do is this. Just go through the data while we here and before we do that, I just want you to take note off the format off each field so you can see the fueled name is hell, and the table it's from is here and on the top of every field. You see, it has some icon, and this icon represents the field type. So, for instance, category is a bunch of words or letters, and in data language, it's called a string. So tableau automatically classifies field types and you can see if you click on ABC String is selected. The next column, as you can see, is city and City is a location, and tableau actually sometimes recognizes it. Sometimes it doesn't, but this case it does, so you can see it's a string. It's still a bunch of words. But if you go down to geographic role, can t tableau assigned it to the city? And it's useful because when we are building charts, it automatically acknowledges that you probably want a bold a map. If you all gonna use the Field City the same with country and region. So if we click on the icon, it's a string. But if we got onto geographical role can see it's assigned as country and region custom. I d to string because it does have letters on you customer names. So this is your customer name, which is a string as well. What a date. So order date would be a date. So if you had a time and a date, it would be dating time. Now, if you do find that sometimes tableau has assigned something incorrectly, it's very easy to change it. But it looks like it has assigned everything correctly. Okay, let's continue order I. D. So this is probably just a unique identify off an order postal code. So this is a postal code, a geographical field type here product i D, which is a unique identifying for the product that the customer is buying. So I think we sort of know that this is obviously an order table where each row represents an order and the characteristics often order and usually in data. You often do get I DS assigned, such as an order idea product, I d. It's just good practice. Product name. So this is obviously the name of the product that was bought quantity, which is quantities sold. You can see here that now there's a hash tag symbol, and if you click on it, it is a number. A number whole makes sense because it is quantity sold and you can get a decimal. You can sell 2.5 products. It's not riel moving on region. So technically, this isn't assigned a geographical field type just because it's South west, north and that doesn't really belong in a map row I d which should be just a row count sales. So this looks like thesis ale amount. It's even field clap. Yo. Okay, this is a number decimal, so that makes sense. Sales agent I. D. So this is probably the stuff member in charge who is responsible for the sale ship, date, ship, mode, state and some category. Okay, so, looking at this data, I think we have enough to do an analysis for Mr Ground Frost and I think it would be sufficient. OK, so moving on, if we go to the top right, we can see a pain called connection and live or extract. So what is the difference? Basically, what tableau is saying is that how you want your data connected? Do you want it live? So why you build the dashboard? If there is any data coming in, you wanted automatically updated Or do you want an extract and I'll going to extract into but more details soon? We just want to talk a bit more about live, so the live connection is basically where your data source contains a direct connection to you. Underlying data that note that this year is a text file. It's not getting updated its on your local computer, so you don't necessarily need a live connection. But in a case where you do need a lot of connection, remember when you do, you connect live. It's not always best for your dashboard. It's not optimized for fast performance as you're building your dashboard. Remember, Tableau is also concentrating on Getting live data into your dashboard definitely slows the process, and I've worked on live databases before. We're ahead edible dashboard and often or not, it too slow. It's very frustrating if you are choosing life, I think always also question doesn't need to be live. Is this somebody who's gonna monitor this dashboard 24 7 or can you think off a bidder? Data workflow. All right, so that brings us to the next option, which is extract, and this is definitely my go to. So extracts are snapshots off data which are optimized for tableau there, optimized for data aggregation as well. And these snapshots actually loaded into tableaus memory to be quickly recalled for the visualisation. It definitely makes you walk faster When you bold your dashboards. I do recommend them. The good thing is, also remember, if it's an extract, you can actually connect to it offline. So once you develop the extract, it gets saved to your local computer. And you can bold your dashboard like that without an Internet connection, whereas live doesn't require that if you don't have an Internet connection or if you have poor signal, you won't be able to bold the dashboard. Okay, so it's definitely good practice to get into the habit off, slitting an extract and lists you really needed live. The next thing I want to talk about is thief alters on top here. So what this does is that it can filter your data source, and this is useful. If you only want to make an analysis based on a certain set of data, maybe you want a bold A dashboard on a specific year off data. You can use the falters here now using the photos on this window. So in your data source pain. If you use a full to hear, you can't build a dashboard on the data that you faulted out. So if you just want to see 2018 data and you create a full two here, you will not build your dashboard on any other year other than the year off 2018. So I just want to show you how to do. Falters quickly because it's quite important. So click on add and let's say we want to falter on maybe a city Leicester City. Let's only bring in Los Angeles, so click add and the field we're looking at is City Click, OK, and I just want to see Los Angeles. So I'm just gonna search on this text and Los Angeles pops up so selected and we can see we selected one value out of 531 click OK, and you can see now this changes. So it is that there's a city falter and the details are it's only keeping Los Angeles, So click OK. And now you can see that only Los Angeles will appear in your data set. Okay, Now, I actually want to do an analysis on the whole data set, so I'm not going to do a full to heal. So let's remove it. Do you do that? Click on it. It on the top, Right Click on the city, falter and pick removed. Click. OK, now we are back to normal. Okay, I think we're done with this. I hope you understood that part. That's very important. And we're gonna cover it in the other projects because obviously, this is the same window that's going to keep on appearing, but it is important to understand. All right, now that we're ready, we are going to pick on sheet one. Once you click on it, it actually makes us save the extract somewhere. So just decide where you want to save it. For instance, I created a folder called My Extracts, and I'm gonna just save everything there, So name it. I'm fine with disk on Mt. And Click Save. Okay, so it should take a few sickens. But now we have our extract up and running and we're ready to build some charts. So I will see you in the next lesson to do that by 7. Discount Mart- Building Charts Part 1: Hi. Welcome back to this lecture. And in the last lecture we covered connecting to the discount, not data source. And in this lecture, we are going to build some charts. So before we begin, I just want to show you the final product just so that you have a picture in Mind off. How are we going to be designing the dashboard? Okay, so this is thief final product of our discount marked dashboard. As you can see, it has thes little cards for sales, profit and quantity. We have a full Tahir so grand can choose what a year he wants to analyze in what data he wants to look at and you can see everything changes. You have stables for the year that he's chosen. We have a quantity off products sold in buns off to. So this was grounds assumption that every order has two more products. And we've done this by a history. Graham. We also are going to do a little sales by category analysis. So how much sales they make per category and a simple sales map. So what are the sales looking like per state in the USA? Some other functionality. So If you click on a category like technology, you can see it filters all the way through. And if you do the same for state So if we click on the state, which is Texas, it filters all the way through. So quite a simple so quite a simple but useful dashboard for growing thrust. Let's see how we gonna bold it. Okay, so before we begin to board it, Alatriste do a tour off the tableau pain on the left. You can see that this icon is the data sign. So you so just shows you what data source you connected to. We're connected to a discount Mont data source. If you right click, there are a few options you can do so you can get at the data source. So if you click on this, it goes back to the data source pain where you can play around with a gain. But we're done here. So I'm just gonna go back and click on sheet one and back here. So just right click on discount, not or fish. So remember, we have created an extract. You can see it heared selected. So if it was a live data source. You can refresh it to get some new data. If you click on view data, it will pull up a table, which shows you the raw data. So let's do that. Can also see the road content is 9904. It kept us at 10,000 rows per preview. And if you want to see the next 10,000 then you just press on this arrow. So this is obviously for bigger database. This data said, only has 9000 rows, so it's not too big. So just closet right click. Discard Monta Gain. You have an option of renaming the data source off, duplicating it and of closing it, obviously closing it. Technically, delete it, so I don't recommend doing that. You can re extract the data, and there's some other options here. Solutions click out. Okay. And now, as you can see, they are to pains, dimensions and measures, and tableau sorts out each field as a dimension or a measure. So every field in a data sit is either sorted to dimension or measure. So what is the difference? So dimensions actually contain qualitative data, and this just basically means that data which are categories or Sigmund's, and how I usually put it is that is that dimensions. You can perform mathematical operations on them. So, for instance, you can't multiply region by product. I d. You can multiply row I d. By order date, etcetera. There's always just categorical data sets or segments for your data, and I'm sure you notice that dimensions are generally in blue, and if you move down to measures, they're generally in green, So measures are the direct opposite of dimensions measures. You can perform mathematical operations on them. You can multiply quantity by sales, ex cetera. Now you can see sales Agent I. D. Is here. You can't do a mathematical operation on an I. D. So this actually has been assigned incorrectly by tableau, but you can change it. So to change that, I mentioned to a measure or measure to a dimension. You do this so select the field, click on the arrow and what it say's convert to dementia. Click it, and now it's a dimension, and then you not just that there's a latitude and longitude. This actually wasn't in the original date, is it? This is created by tableau whenever it sees things like city, country or any geographical data field. It just creates the corresponding geo coordinates for it. So this is a generator field by tableau, number off records also and water generated field. This just represents the number off rose in your data sets, and now you can see they are thes two fields called measure names and mutual values. And this is also generated by tableau. And this is generally used. If you want to do something like falta multiple measures at once, when you can just use this field, okay, so a quick run down on how building charts works, you can see these columns and rows at the top. Yah, and all you have to do to create a chart is drag fields into rows and columns that do you want to analyze? So let's just say, if we want to do sales by region, I would click on my region field and drag it to rose and drop it. I would pick on my sales field, dragged two columns and drop it, and you can see automatically. Tableau creates the spot shot, which has region as a row and sales as a column now to get rid of us, you can. You can click on region and just drag it out and click on sales and drag it out. And it's gone. Now. The quick way that I usually do it is I double click. So if I double click on region it, it immediately drags it to rose. But if I double click on sales, it actually drags it to text, Right? So let me just remove sales. So if you click on sales and you drag it to text, it's the same thing. But what if you want to change it to the botch up that we have? Well, you can take the sales and obviously Dragon two columns. So if I just do that, it does that Oh, that's just click back. So this area here, this arrow, just one does a previous move. Oh, what you can do is that tableau has this icon on the right cold. Show me, and if you click it, it actually shows you what charts you can create so we can create a pie chart. We can create a highlight table. So if you're on it and drag it and want to drag it into your sheet, you can see this window appears. I want the actual value appearing on the line. Okay, So to do that, click on the line and click it it. So we know we selected the average for the entire table. One is a history, Graham, which sort out our data in bends or back. It's in The other one is a map. So two very important charts that are used quite common me in the world of data. Let's get to it. We need geographical coordinates, which we have, but often you need to create a sort of hierarchy, especially if you want to do it by state because tableau needs to know that state, which is your steak field, is linked to a country which is USA and a city and a postal code. And I'll show you why soon. But for now, let's create a hierarchy. So ah, hierarchy is just an order off fields. A good example would be something like category, subcategory product name. Another one would be something like director manager employees or in terms of maps, it would be something like Country State, City, suburb. So you create an hierarchy is quite easy going to start off with your most highest one. So it would be country and region. Next one would be state, right? Yeah. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna click on state and drag state and place it right on top of country slash region. So click on state dragged and place it as soon as it's highlighted on top of country slash region. Immediately when you do that, this window pops up. It's saying that ah hierarchy is going to be created, which is perfect. So click OK, and now you can see things are different. You have this sort of looks like an organ, a gram, and it's saying that you have created a hierarchy. So let's do the others. So city and we have postal code. That's the only two geographical fields lift so off the state city would come next. So click on city, drag it and you can see now you can move city to a slot. You want it so it's off to ST. So make sure that line shows up and drop it and going to do the same with postal code. So pick it, drag it, and it should go under city Trump it. Okay, now that's sorted. We can move one tone map to do a map is quite simple. I want you to click on country and region and drag it onto detail to wait a bit to load it . Okay, so now we see the map of the USA shows up, but I wanted by country remember, wanted sales prostate. So when you bring in a hierarchy, we just expand this window. You can see this plus sign appears. And what, if telling you, is that you can select us to expand it to the next version off the hierarchy which is state . So let's do that. If yours is not green, you can change it back, looking on color, editing your color and choosing the palate green. Okay, the next thing I want to do is actually have a label off sales. So to do that, remember, we can hold control for Windows Command format, click on sales and are duplicates the field and let's drop it to label. So Donald, the project brief it's in the resource is section off this listen and it's give it a read. Green Destinations is a well known travel agency. The HR director has recently noticed an increase in employees leaving, which is known as attrition. She would like to figure out any trends or patterns. She has surveyed the staff off green destinations and provided you put the data. She would like to know what the attrition rate is, which is percentage of people who have lived. She would also like to know Effect is like age, years at the company and income play a part in determining if people will leave or not. So this is definitely going to be an H R. Analytics dashboard and mainly revolving around the fact if people are going to leave based on certain attributes off the data. So let's have a look at the data, and to do that we need to know the data source. So let's go to the next page. Okay, so our data is once again a CSP, and it is present in the resource is section below and the logo for grain destinations is also present in the resource is section Go ahead and download the data, sit and the logo and say with somewhere on your computer. But for instance, if you do a file new in tableau, you might come across this window and it's basically the same thing. If you want to start connecting to your data, you can click here or if want to go back to the previous window, Just select the tableau icon and you're back to where you started. All right, so let's connect to a data set. You know, this procedure? We've done it before in the lost project. So it is a C S V. So it's a text file. So go ahead and kick text file, okay? And just never get to where you saved the data source and click green destination Doctor CSP que and click open. So we are into the data source window. We have our data connected, so it's green destination. It's a text file. Remember, you can rename and Shia if you need to. Okay, so let's review some columns. Okay? So it looks like every role represent an employee that the HR manager has surveyed. So if we have a look at the column names we have age, which obviously is the age off the employees. Attrition. So it's a yes, no. So this is whether they've left or not. Business travel. So this is probably if they travel daily rate. This is possibly income per day. The department that there from so sales, research and development the distance from homes. I'm not sure if this is in kilometers off miles, but I don't really think that's necessary. I think obviously, lower numbers represent your near to work, and high numbers represent that It's quite a distance where you travel education. So again it looks like a bit of a scoring here, so high numbers are probably more highly educated. People education field. So the education field the employee is in employees can't. So this must be all one. Like I said, one row should represent one employee employee numbers. That's probably a unique number that an employee is given almost like a I d. Let me just grow environment satisfaction, so obviously they rated how they find the environment. High numbers are good. Low numbers are bad gender, male or female, hourly rate and gain income per hour. Job involvement. This is probably them rating themselves on how involved they feel at the drop job level. So maybe this is a sort of hierarchy. So hires a level. The more high up you are, that makes sense, cause Level two is a sales executive. It's just expand. This level three is a director, so yeah, job satisfaction. So this is probably where they rated, how satisfied they are with their job marital status. So they single or married, divorced, monthly income, monthly rate number of companies worked. So this is how many companies they worked in the lifetime are they over 18? Do they walk over time percent celery hug, which is quite interesting. So obviously, this is probably the percentage they celery increased performance rating. So how well they do relationship satisfaction, I wondered. This is relationship, as in with coworkers or what the company standard hours is probably standard hours worked stock option level. This is probably if they have the option for taking stock. Total working years are self explanatory training times last year, so this is probably how many times they trained work life balance. So they probably rated themselves on the work life balance. Ah, high school means a good work. Life balance? Yes, at current company years and current role years since lost promotion and years with current manager. Okay, so I think we know what most of the fields are about, but they are few fields that are quite ambiguous and that I'm not sure off. And this is a really good time to actually speak about mapping a database. And just to make sure that as a data analyst, you should know all of the columns. And it's often great to have some sort of column descriptions on your database, all indexes. So your analysts can have an idea off what the columns are. But I think we know most of the column, so I don't think it's going to affect our analytics too much. Okay, so next thing we're going to do is we're gonna look at the top, right? So are we going to create an extract? Yes. It's good practice to create an extract. Your what book obviously is optimized for extracts. So I am in a select and extract. Are we gonna full to anything? No. I think it's quite important that we keep all data, and I don't think it's a big database. So remembered. One roll represents one employee, so it can be a big database. And when I say big databases, I mean databases with millions of rose. And once you reach a database with part a few millions off Rose tableau does get a bit slower. Okay, so I think we've done now, and let's create an extract. So click on sheet one, this orange tab. True. Somewhere where you're going to save you extract. So I'm saving it under a full tickled my extracts. Green destination is fine as a name and click save. Okay. And now we're onto the next phase of the project, which is shot building. Welcome back. So in the last lesson, we learned how to connect to the green destination text while and in this Listen, we are going to build some charts. So before I do that, I just want to show you the final dashboard. So you have a bigger picture in mind, so I'm just gonna go to it. Okay, so this is thief Final Dashboard. We're going to be building for green destinations and you can see on the top is some headline cards. We have one for total employees. The attrition rate, like the HR manager asked, Boss. So this is the amount off employees that are leaving the average drug satisfaction. Often employees and the average monthly income. I have laid out the dashboard so that green represents people that are leaving or have left . And Gray represents people that are currently in the business. We have a graph on employee count by specific age groups, which is split by whether they have left or not. So this is average income per age group. So per age group, what is the average income? And does that relate back to the attrition here? The next is just a table. So this is where we conceive the percentage of attrition by department. So your department and the percentage of people who have left and the percentage of people who are still here we then have our usual hissed. A grams of the show's employees comes by your monthly income brackets again. Green represents people who have left. Gray represents people who are still in the company. So this is where she can see. She can see where people have left the most and see the corresponding income brackets. So this is where she can see which income brackets have people leaving the company. And lastly, we have an employee count by years. So this is really HR manager can just determine if all the employees are leaving or if younger employees are leaving in terms of years at the company. So that's a dashboard. Pretty simple, just a tiny but more detailed in the previous one, but definitely doable. So let's get to it. Okay, so the first graph that we are going to board is the employee count by age group and before we start boarding a delicious check, our dimensions and our measures. So as per usual tableau sorted out automatically. Dimensions are categorical, the qualitative, and you can perform mathematical operations on them and measures. Is Theo exact opposite? The first graph that allergy Bold is employees Kant by age group. So having a look at the fields, we do have a judge and just want to confirm. Is it a measure or dimension? And if you think about it, age is categorical. It's not really a measure. You can't really perform a mathematical operation on age, so technically, this should be a dimension. So to do that is quite simple. There's two ways you can either click age and drop it onto the dimensions pain. Or you can click this arrow and convert to Dimension, so either way gets the job done. Okay, so let's bring age two rows. So want you to click age and drag it to rose. Okay, so there's obviously a lot of options in terms off age. And to make it simpler for the graph, we can do it by buckets where we group age and count the number of employees that fall under this group. So we're gonna create a group for ages 18 to 25 then count the number of employees that are between 18 to 25. And to do that, we use the option off groups in tableau. So let's create an age group. Okay? So I want you to click the age field and the arrow and go to create and click on group and you see the group pop up show up so you can change the field name. But age group is fine, and now it's pretty easy. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna select whatever age is we want to fall into a specific group. So to select it, you need to hold on command for Mac or control on Windows and select the ages that you need . So for our first group, we're gonna do 18 to 25. So hold Commander Control and select 18 until 25. Carrie, when you done, can it go? Antic group. You can change the name. So click your backspace everything and say 18 to 25. Okay, Now let's do the next one, which is going to be 26 to 35. So let's hold control or command. Click on 26 hold control or command and start clicking until 35. All right, and then Kick Group and it's backspace And let's say 26 to 35. Okay, so let's do our next groups are next. Group starts here and let's do 36 to 45. So hold control or command Select 36 until 45 and Click Group. Okay, and it's backspace and say 36 to 45. Okay, I think the other group should be 46 to 55 in the final group will be 56 to 60. So let's do that. So let's hold control or command Select 46 and select until 55. Okay, let's click Group. You're to scroll down because I think it goes back to the top. Okay, this is our new groups. Once you've done select Okay, now let's remove age from Rose and let's bring in a new field you concede gets created here under Dimensions Age Group and its Politburo's great. So now this is all the groups we created, and the next step is remember, I wanted employee count by age group. There is a field on your measures called employee count, so let's kick it and double ticket. And here we have it. So we have for every age group the number off employees that are present, let's change it to a bar graph, and I want you to do that by yourself. So pause a video and make that change. Okay, so to change it to a bar graph, we just go to the right click, show me and select bar graph or horizontal bars. Click on Show Me Again to get rid of it. Okay, it's full up the space here. So instead of standard at the top selected and click anti view, I do wanted colored where one color would be people that are leaving or have left and the other color are people that are still currently employed. So So how do we do that? Well, there is an attrition field and remember to yes, no field whether the employee has left, which is yes or no. And all we do is we need to drag the attrition field onto color. So let's do that. So select attrition and drag it onto color. And the color same for my dashboard is green and gray, so I want attrition to be green and no would be gray. So to change color, we click on color, click on edit colors, and it's select no and change it to gray. And let's select yes and change it to green. Now they are other colors here, So we select on automatic. There's quite a few pellets. So if you select a different gray ex cetera, you can. If you want a specific color, you can always double click on the square color block and it takes you to the color wheel. So a few options. Okay, so once you've done with the color select. Okay, great. Now I always, like label. So I think there should be labels on this graph and its labels by employees can't. So the next step we need to do is drag employees Kant to label. So click on employee count and drag it and drop it on label. Great. So now HR manager can see how many employees have left green destinations and how many employees are still currently employed at green destinations. Okay. And the last thing we're gonna do is a little bit off formatting. So you should know by now. I don't like good lines, so we're gonna get rid of them solely to do that. So right, click. Anyway, on the white space click for meant, we're gonna change the grid lines, So click on the grid line icon, which is the last icon, and it is going vertical. So it's columns and you can see a faint grid lines or click on it and click none. It's not want the whole fund to be tableau bold, and it needs to be black, so it looks like it's a bit of a grey now. So let's click on the first icon, which is this A. And it represents front, and you can see it's talk selected on columns. So let's change that your sheet, because I want the front across the whole sheet to be same. Click on worksheet and I can see the fund. Is that Grace? Let's change it to Black and let's change the font Type two tableau Bold. So click on the Arrow and select tableau. Bold Okay, and then the last tips would be changing the title and the sheet name. So double click on the title and it's backspace. Everything okay? So let's call it employee count by age group. Okay, it's select everything. Let's do tableau. Boulder gains a change of the fun type to tableau bold and centralize it and make sure it's black. So click on the color and just change it to black Click. OK, okay. Next up would be just changing the sheet name at the bottom. So DoubleClick she to one on the tab at the bottom and call it employee count by age. Click out. Okay, so that's the first graph. Now let's do the next graph based on age, and what it's gonna be is it's gonna be another bar trot, and we're gonna have the average monthly income by age. Now there's a few things I want to introduce to you, So let's get going. Right, So normal procedure. I want to keep this formatting zor. What I do is I duplicate the sheet, so let's right click and click duplicate. It's renamed the tab. Let's call it a V G, which is average income age and let's remove or the polls in the chart except age group. So keep age Group. Now. I want you to just change this for matter, but because I am gonna explain something, So instead of entire view, click on it and click standard Great. So first step is, let's calculate the average monthly income, so let's bring in monthly income, which is a measure and the field is here, so selected and double click it. And if we just expand the marks, Kateb, it's OK. So what The shows is that per age group, it's summing up with total monthly income all 18 to 25 year olds in the group on this much money in one month and all 26 to 35 year olds in the group on this much money in one month . Okay, so what do you want is we actually want average per age group, and it's quite logical because you can see tableau is telling you that it's actually summing up the monthly income, and we want the average so you can change this. If we click on the arrow and we change way taste measure some to average and click it. It now gives you the average. What if I want to compare this average per group with the total average? Because what I want to find out, because what I want to find out is I want to see how the average per age group deviates from the total average. So, for instance, 18 to 25 year olds do they actually make more or less than the total employees average because remember the younger groups from our last chart looks like they're leaving a lot. So how do you do that? Because remember, whatever we bring in two tableau, whatever field is not dependent on the view and it is going to split up the average based on what's in this view, which is age per group. It's not going to give us a total average unless we remove this. So let's remove this poll. So jacket off, and now this is actually the total average. But I want to see it next to each other. So if you click back, I want to see the average per group and the total average. So and to do this, we use a function off tableau called Level of Detail and level off. Details are basically expressions which are computed by tableau, regardless off the view, so I can create a calculated field to calculate the average for all employees. And if I bring in the calculated field, it's not going to be affected by this view. So this is going to be a introduction to level detailed calculations. I will include a link which has some more examples on there. But whenever you think of level of detail calculations, it basically allows you to perform an operation or calculation on tableau. At a certain level. We want to perform a calculation average on the whole data sit, and we want to perform another calculation average just per age group. And we can do that would level of detail calculations because then we can match them up one against another in the same view. And thes polls won't affect it. So let's create our first level of detail expression. I want to just replicate this and calculate the average income per age group. So click on the arrow here, and it's just gonna be similar to creating a calculated field. So click on Create calculated field, click on Create Calculated Field and call an average per age group. Okay. And to tell the tableau to do a level of detail expression, you introduced curly brackets. So type the following and I'll explain now. Okay, So, like I said, curly brackets introduce the level of detail expression so everything within this is a level of detail. Case of this operation, which is fixed, is basically telling to blow to aggregate the average monthly income at this level and only this level. Nothing else. Now you do get different types off levels so you can get an include and exclude. But fixed is quite popular again. The link in the description off the lecture will have some options on how to use level of detail expressions, but this is just an introduction on it. So what I'm telling tableau is I just want to see the average monthly income fixed at an age group level, and that's it. And click on OK, and you can see a field does not created so double click, and now we can see it's exactly the same. But this field is a calculated field, and it's done at a level of detail. So I want you to remove this field so click yah and drag it out. So now we have a level of detail expression, and what it does is that it will always, no matter what is on this view, give us the average per age group. So let's click on department and its bring it in two columns, and you concede the average hasn't changed. Regardless off the department, which obviously is incorrect because theatric would be different part apartment. But because it's a level of detail expression where we told Tableau to just fix it and give me the average on age group and nothing else, it's doing that. So no matter what you bring in the view, it's always going to give us this answer. So get rid of departments or click on it and drag it out. Okay, so the next calculation is that I want to compare the averages per age group toothy total data center average. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna create another level of detail expression. So click on the arrow, click on create calculated field and say, total average. And this time store level of detail expressions open. Kali brackets right fixed. But I want an average on the total data sets. So technically, I'm not fixing it to anything, so I'm not gonna have a field here. I just have colon animals, a BG monthly income enclosed records, and I'm telling trouble, Just give me the monthly income for the whole data set, regardless off what's in the view. So select okay, and it's double ticket. Okay, so now What we have is we have the average per age group and in the total average and now we can see, while the average income for 18 to 25 year olds is 2973. But the total average for the whole group is 6503. So these guys get paid well below average. Okay, So I think what's gonna be important is that if we have a bar graph that shows the average income per age group, I think we should have another field next to it that shows us the amount that's different. Let's create a calculated field. So pick on this arrow, click on create calculated field. OK, so it's called it amount from group Average. What we're gonna do is gonna take total average and subtracted from this amount. So exam total average minus some average age group and took okay, Now double click it to bring it into our table. Okay, so this tells us quite a lot. It tells us that the age group 18 to 25 they have the most difference to the total average , whereas 46 to 55 have the least difference and they actually earning more. So I think that should be included in a body shot. So let's remove all fields in this measure value amount, and it's bringing in the average per age group. So double click it and let's change it to a bar chart. So select, show me and change it to a body shot. Okay, let's just stop the rows and columns. So to do that, we click on this icon here and you can see it swaps it. And now let's bring in another graph. So we're gonna create two graphs, and the second graph is going to be the amount from group average. So click on it and drag it into Rose and just drop it next. Toothy average per age group. Okay, this is looking good. Now, I know we did deviated, but from the initial dashboard, but I think this is very useful for HR manager. Now what does this toss? So it tells us that 18 to 25 year olds while they on about 2900 they're about $3500 away from the group average. So I'm quite happy with us. It tells us quite a lot, so let's formatted. So let's change this to an entire view. So pick on standard and click on entire view. Let's get rid off the grid lines. It's a right click. Go to format. Go to this last icon for grid lines. It is horizontal grid lines, so it's gonna be rose and slip grid lines and slick none. And now I want to bring labels in each chart so you can see when we created two charts in your Marks card. There's actually two different marks cards because it's two different charts, and what you can do is you can choose which charts have labels and what labels they are. If you want to do different colors for each different chart, that's possible. So let's do the label for the average per age group. So let's click on average per age group, Click on Control or Command and Dragons and drop it on label. Great. So now you can see label shop for this graph on top, but bottom. There's no labels, so let's click on the marks card them. I'm from group average and pick on the second pool, which is amount from group average, hold control and drop it to label and that this has labels okay or some Let's change the color. So while we here on amount from group average, let's color it's rid to pick on color and it's colored rid. And this should be grey. So click on this here. So some average by age group in your marks card, Click on color and let's do gray. So this great here. Okay, I think I'm gonna end a chair by 14. Green Destinations- Building Charts Part 2: welcome back. So in this listen, we are going to work on a hist a gram, and basically what I'd like to know is how many employees on a certain monthly income in brackets. So let's get to it. So we're gonna do the usual process where we are going to duplicate the sheet. So right click on average income for age and click duplicate, and it's changed the title off the tab. So double click on the tab and backspace and call it employee count by income. And let's remove all the polls in the graphs. Remove this one and this one and the age group, and we have to remove this one as well. Okay, let's change the titles of its double click. It's like the whole title X base and name it the same. So employees, I can't income and click. OK, okay. So for this growth, we need monthly income. Let's bring it into our work pain. So click on monthly income and double click it. Now we want this as a history graham, and if you remember from the last project, we just need a measure to create a hist a gram. So let's never get to show me, Click on it and you can see hissed. A gram is selected. We just need one measure, so that's click on it. Remove. Show me supply can show me at the top. Click on the arrow, click on it it and you can see the size of bones is 552 so that's changed to 2000. Click. OK, okay, so this looks a bit more cleaner and now we can tell how many employees they are. Part 2000 been size. Let's add a label for this, so that would be the count of rows. So hold control or command on you can't and drag it to label. So click and drag and drop it on label, and I want to color it again, quite similar to the first bar chart we did, where people who have left are colored in green and people who are still at the company are colored in gray. So that is theater Trish infield. So let's bring that into color. So select attrition and drop it to color, so click drag to color drop. And I think we're done for this graph. So as you can see what's interesting, it looks like most people tend to leave between 2000 to $4000 off a monthly income. And obviously it looks like the people who earn quite a lot tend to stay. So I think we have one more bar chart lift before we starting our headline cards. So let's created, and that bar chart is going to be on the count off employees based on the number of years they've worked at the current company. All right, we're gonna do the usual process. Let's duplicate the sheet so right click, click duplicate and it's renamed the Sheet. So double click and it's a employee count by years. What, and it's called a title the same. So double click on the title at the top, backspace everything and say employee count by year's looked and click OK, okay, so you know the next step. We remove all the polls from the shot. And now, as I said before, I want years worked and employee count. So let's look for total years. So years a company. Let's use that now, before we click it in years, that company would be a dimension because it is categorical. You either work a certain amount of years or you don't. So let's change a two dimension. So I'm gonna right click pants taken book to Dimension, so let's bring it in toothy you work pain. So double click on it, okay? And it's changing. Two columns. Click and drag it on columns again. The next thing we need to bring in his employee count so fine employee card and double click. Now he want This is a bar chart. So click on show me at the top right and click on the Bart shot. So to do that, we can change the sitting on a label so click label and for alignment, we're gonna click on it, and horizontal just means the way you want it centralized. But direction shows the direction off your text. So let's kick on the middle one, which is up okay, and that looks better. Let's change the fund to make it one size smaller, so click on it and just change it to fund two size eight. Okay, let's click out. Okay, so we've done with the trots in the next section. We are going to cover the final part off a dashboard, which is the headline cards, Someone in a chair and I'll see in the next listen by. 15. Green Destinations- Creating Headline Cards: Hello. Thanks for joining me again. And in the previous section, we just finished off. Our charts were dashboard, and all that's left is our headline cards. So let's get to it. Okay, so as per the usual, we are going to duplicate the sheet, so right, Click, Click, duplicate. And obviously, now we're going to remove the polls from the shot. I think by now you sort of get the idea on the format and sitting up New child. It just makes it but faster when you duplicate the sheet because you sort of keep the formatting and the front ex cetera. So let's change the tab name and the title. So this is just gonna be total employee count with the tab name entitled. So let's hit over two title, double click. It slipped everything, Becks base and name it the same. Click. Ok, Okay. And we just want the total employees can't. So that bull just involved double clicking employees Kant and bringing it into our work pain. So that's one big bar chart, and we want it as a text field because remember, it is a headline card. So let's click. Show me top right and change it to a text table. So selected Click. Show Me again. All right. Now let's change this to entire view, so standard click on it changes to entire view, and it's it at the text. So on your marks pain click your tics card. Click on the three dots by text. Okay, so let's lift everything. Let's change the size too. Size 24 care. It's press enter, and it's called it Employees cards. Let's make this a bit smaller. Soul it. Let's make employees conta but smaller, so selected, and change the fund size kick on it and change it to 15. Select. Okay, all right now against still see, it's at the right, and I wanted centralized. So again, click text click alignment and just make it Sivensa. Great. So the next card we're gonna do is the attrition rate, and let's work on that. So let's duplicate the sheet. Right click. Total employees can't click duplicate. It's rename it. So double click Beck Space. It's called it attrition rate and let's do the same for the title. So double click the title, select everything backspace and pull it patrician. Great. Okay, so attrition rate would be the number of employees that have left over your total employee count. And technically, the number of employees that have left would be the employee count for anybody who's attrition is equal to yes. Okay, so the first steps what we need to do to determine attrition rate is calculate the number of employees that have left. So let's create a calculated field click on the Arrow click, create calculated field, and let's call it patrician employee count. And to calculate the number of employees that are left is going to be done with a function called If I if and the if function is logical. And what it does is that we propose tableau with the scenario. And if that scenario is true, tableau outputs and answer. And if it's false, tableau outputs a different answer, and this whole thing is actually called and if function so this is generally the structure , often if function so it will be. If I'm going to say square bracket scenario one close great bracket, then open square bracket on So on else answer to space end. So this is the general structure. Often if statement and the content in the square brackets is what you need to full in. So how it is again is that if scenario one happens, then give me a specific answer. If anything else happens, then give me a different on. So So what is all scenario one? Well, a scenario one would be if our attrition equals. Yes, Zin can't employees. If it's no, then don't count employees. So this is how I do it. Someone a select scenario. One When the backspace it and I'm gonna write attrition, you can see as soon as you type the field actually shows up. So let's select it equals. And the next thing I'm gonna do is say yes. Because, remember, we want employees that have actually being through attrition so type and yes, and because yes is a word, it's a string. You need to tell tableau that. So put it in quotation marks. Okay. If attrition equals, yes, then show me an answer. If attrition doesn't equal, yes, then show me a different answer. So what happens if attrition equals? Yes, well, we need to count the employees. So this answer one would be employee count. So let's select everything for on the one. It's backspace and it's say employee count. Okay, is the field that we use for employees? Kant. Let's select it. Okay again. So he's saying that if the attrition equals, yes, then I want you to count this employee. But if the attrition doesn't equal, yes. So if the attrition equals no, then give me zero so onto two would be zero. So let's looked on to tear backspace and type zero, and that's it. That's basically how we calculate attrition for the employee count. Okay, so let's select OK, and it will appear as a new field. And to double check this, it just bring it into the work pain. So click on it, drag and drop it. Wait, say some employees count. Okay, so now it's saying 237 people have left the company, which is correct. So how would we calculate attrition rate Well, so attrition rate would be the some off the attrition employee count divided by the sum of a total employees count. So we need to create one more calculated field. So let's do that. Click on the arrow click on Create calculated field, call it attrition rate. So what would be attrition rate well, attrition rate would be this. Some off the employees Kant over the sum of your total employees can't. So let's do it. So say some open brackets and start typing attrition. Applying count. It shows up here, so click on it and close bracket and divided by the sum open bracket. Employees can't click on the field that shows up close bracket. Yeah, so again remember that patrician employees can't is just employees who have left the company, whereas employee count is just all employees. So that makes sense that we dividing the attrition employee count over your total employees . So let's click. OK, all right, so now let's bring it into the pain. So click on attrition rate, drag it and drop it over some attrition employee count. Also, this should actually be a percentage, so let's change it. So to do that, go to U attrition rate field. Click on the arrow, go down to default properties, click on number four minutes. Remember, number format is really four metre number or your field, and it's a percentage. So click on percentage. Click OK, all right. It's looking good. It's changed the title to attrition rate, so kick on text, click on the three dots and instead of employee count type attrition rate and you can put a percentage and select. Okay, okay, so the next two cards are pretty simple. We are going to do a card for drop satisfaction and then another card. Full average monthly income. So let's duplicate the sheet. So right click on the term click duplicate, and it's changed the sheet name to job satisfaction. So double click on attrition, rate tab, name, backspace and say job satisfaction, right? And then do the same for the title. DoubleClick, the title. Select everything and backspace and say Job satisfaction. Okay, and now it's gonna be a simple as putting the job satisfaction field here and then making sure its average. Because remember, it would be average job satisfaction. Castle job satisfaction is here, so click on it. Dragons. As soon as it's on top of attrition rate, drop it. All right, So now, like I said, it's showing us the sum of job satisfaction, and I think this is a scoring out of full. So what is doing is that is just summing up all the values off jobs inspection across the whole sheet, but we want to do average. So click on the arrow, click on Misha and say average. Okay, it was some Sonatas 2.7 to 9. It's changed the format because I prefer to use a decimal point instead of a comma. So let's so let's right click on this poll here. Go to form it and with his numbers, click on it and it's do number custom. Okay, Brit, the next thing we need to do is change this title to job satisfaction. So click on text in your marks pain. Click on the three dots and select attrition rate backspace and say average dot job satisfaction. Click OK, we have one more card to do, which is the average monthly income. Green Destinations- Dashboard Building: Hello. Welcome back. So in this lesson, we are going to start building our dashboard. We are going to do it but differently to the previous listen where we are going to use containers. So let's get started. Okay. To create a dashboard, we need to slick the dashboard icon, which looks like a window at the bottom with a plus sign so selected. Okay, so let's change the size off the dashboard over here. So let's do 1300 by 900 pixels. So what of 1300 a height of 900 pixels? So, like I said, we are gonna use containers. And what containers are our little boxes that contain your charts? And there are a lot easier to move around than how you're doing it previously. So I'm just gonna expand this pain of it. Okay, so I think I went on this chart. So employee count by age and average income per age to be one on top of another. So I want you to click on a vertical container because you can see the styling off the container and showing us that it can format graphs one on top, of another. So let's click it. Let's drag it and place it on a dashboard. Okay, now let's bring in. The employees can't by age, so let's click it dragons and dragon on top until the coal containers selected. Great. Now you can see the legend appears here. I just want you to select it and remove it and say, Did eat containers and you notice that keeps on appearing if you do have cards on the side of a chart, so let's go back to all our charts and remove those card so we don't have to deal with that formatting issue so select employees can by age at the bottom tab, and I want you to right click the side ball and say Hide card and do it for all the charts . So select average income for age. Okay, this is awesome because it doesn't have anything. Employee count by income, right? So click you hide Claude. Employees can't buy years work, so the next shot again attrition. Let's remove it. Click your had cod total employees, cont, attrition, job satisfaction and average monthly income so thes actually dont have any cars on the side , which is awesome Okay, so let's go back to your dashboard, all right? No, I didn't say I want average income per age to go at the bottom, So let's click it and it's dragons. Okay, now the next year charts I want is the employee conned by income and years worked. And I want that on the right off these two charts, also on top of each other, so it's Click another vertical container. We're gonna click and drag it, and you can see as soon as you dragged it starts highlighting places. So I want you to drag it until until it's highlighted, just like this. So towards the right here and drop it, okay and make sure the container is selected and let's bring in the two trots so it will be employee count by income. So click on it, drag and drop it on this container, and now employee count by years worked, so click on it dragged and drop it right at the bottom. When it's highlighted like this and it go Okay, right. And now what's remaining is our cards at the top and a dashboard titling image, and we know that we step called horizontally so it will be, ah, horizontal container and will place it at the top of the dashboard. So click horizontal, drag it. And as soon as it's like this, drop it okay, can just work on. The sizing will do this all at the end, so don't worry too much about the sizing for now, just as long as you can see all the charts. So let's bring in our first card, which is total employees can't. So I want you to click it, drag it and drop it on the horizontal container. Okay, let's hide this title because it's sort of repetitive, so we don't need this main titles. So right click on way Taste Total employees can't and select High Title and you gonna do this? What will the cod's right? Let's do attrition rates. So click on attrition rate dragons and put it to the right of employees content. So, as soon as it looks like this, drop it again. Let's hide attrition rate. So right click it and say hi title, right job satisfaction. So same thing. Let's click on it dragons. And as soon as it's to the right of attrition rate, drop it. Let's hide the title here as well. So right Click Hi title and, lastly, average monthly income. So let's click on it, drag it and drop it as soon as it's to the right of job satisfaction. Okay, let's right click the title to hide it. And now I need one more container, and it will be placed in this horizontal container for your dashboard title and your logo. So it's click horizontal container. It's dragged, and we're gonna drop it when it's here. So on the left of employees can't again see, sometimes the other cards are disappearing, so just decrease the size, all right, And then this container, we're gonna have a dashboard title and an image. So to do a title that's gonna be text, which is here in your object pain. Select text. Click it, drag it, and as soon as it's on this container, drop it. So let's give our dashboard a title. So let's call it HR analytics. Okay, let's make it a bit bigger, so select everything and change it to tableaux. 26. And it's changed to tableau bold. So change the fun type to tableau. Bold. Centralize it. Let's make it black so change the color to black and click. OK, all right. You can see it appears CIA, and it's put through a logo. So logo is an image. So select image at the objects pain Click Dragons. And as soon as it's to the left off the text HR analytics, drop it. Okay. And then as soon as you drop it, you'll notice that this appears which is asking you to choose an image. So let's choose it. And this is where you are going to choose the logo for green destinations. So I saved the logo here. Someone has selected, and I'm gonna click open, and I am in a selective it and sent it and click. OK, all right. We're just gonna do some sizing someone to make this horizontal ball, but smaller. So if you go to your arrow like that can actually reduce the size, okay? And I wanna make this graph also but bigger. And this gruff, I'm just gonna make it a bit bigger as well. It's basically, however use you see it, but all right, now we do actually to tell the user that green represents attrition, and the way I do it is a select ah graph that does have the color were green is attrition and graze. No attrition. I select the arrow and it's a legend. So I highlighted and select color legend patrician. And you can see it appears he'll but I want it may be right here. So selected. Select this notch on top dragons and I can place it basically any way you want. So in a place that right? Yup. Okay. And if you decrease the size, that should come up like a row. Okay, so let's just have a look at it quickly. So our HR manager, she can tell the employees can't. She knows the attrition rate. She knows. Job said inspection is 2.7 3/4 can. She knows the average monthly income. And this Chachi tells her the age group an employee count, and you can see that people between 26 to 35 is quite a lot of attrition happening there. The next graph below. Oh, it looks like there's a title mistake here, so I'm just gonna change. It can double click the title. So this would be average monthly income. Okay. Snicked. Okay. Right as I was saying in the strategy A. She can tell the average monthly income per age group and also how much it deviates from the group average, which is quite interesting. So she can see that the age groups between 18 to 35 actually have a big deviation from the average negatively. And that may affect why they leave the next chart. There is employees can't buy income. This is Ray. She can tell if a certain income bracket to results in more attrition, which looks like it between 2 to $4000 is more attrition. And she can also tell if he has worked, actually affects attrition, and it looks like Newest off tend to leave more so quite an interesting Dashwood. And I think the next step would be to publish it. It is probably the most important structure to know in a data analyst career, and it's gonna involve some joins, which we will cover, so I will see them die 18. Project 3: Super Store (Sales Analytics): Hi, everyone, welcome back and we're onto our new project and we're going to be looking at a company called Superstore, so let's have a read at the project. Brief Superstore is a famous retailer in Canada. They have expanded into the U. S. A. And the business model involves placing sales agents in every state. In the USA, the's sales agents are responsible for bringing in sales for the state that they are assigned to. The sales manager wants a dashboard to track how sales agents are doing. He wanted to be comparable where he selects a timeframe this year example from January to March 2020 and he wants sales data for the same period last year. This is so he can track growth. Additionally, he went to break down off sales per category and subcategory as well as the top performing products. Okay, so this is quite a popular request. It's a dashboard on tracking how specific sales Asians are doing, and the sales manager wants to select a timeframe. He wants to be given stats on that specific time frame, as well as be provided some analytics and stats on that same time frame. Last year, So this is quite an important project. TheStreet teacher off the dashboard we are going to be building is very practical and very useful. So stay tuned and let's have a look at the data sets. So let's go to the second page. Okay, So the data Well, it looks like this to excel Sheets. One is superstar orders, and the other is superstore sales agents. You can download this in the resource section off the lecture and make sure you don't know the logo as well for the dashboard. Okay, So once you've downloaded open tableau and I will see you there by 19. Super Store- Connect to Data: Hi. Welcome back. So in the last decision, we just went over the project brief and in decision. We are going to connect to the data, so let's get to it. Okay, so by now you would have downloaded the to Excel spreadsheets. So let's connect to one of them. Remember, it is an Excel document. So the file type would be Microsoft Excel. So what you do click on Microsoft Excel. So it's on the left pane where it is to a file. So click on it and a navigate to way you've stored this. So I store this on a folder called Superstore and let's select just superstore borders. So click on it and click open. Okay, Awesome. So now we're in the data source pain. So this is quite familiar to us now, and we see that it's brought in the superstore orders connection and here are order sheet. So you must have noticed that when we brought in superstore orders, we now have two sheets which are called orders. But the Actual Excel document had one tap for orders and sometimes tiptoe Does this with excel sheets away. It almost runs a query to clean the data set and duplicated and put it in there for you. But we're just gonna work with the 1st 1 So let's click it. And as for the usual tableau interface, you dragon drops a click, drag and drop it here because this is your main interface when you're bringing in data sources. Okay, so once you drop it, you see, it appears over here, and I think let's go over the data. But before we do, just remember that this is a sales dashboard that revolves around sales agents. So we have ro i d. And this is obviously the count of rows. We have order I d. So this is gonna be a unique i d. For a specific order. We have ordered date. We have ship date again. Remember, these are all flagged as dates. So looking good, we have ship mode, which is sick and close down a class to this would probably be if the customer maybe pays extra Fela ship mode, it would arrive. Foster, we have a unique custom. I d We have a customer name. We have a sales agent. I d I don't see a sales agent name. We have country and region City State. I'm gonna scroll postal code region. So all of this is geographical. We have products, i d, which is a unique i d for product. We have category, subcategory, product name sales, planete and cost percentage. Okay, so everything is pretty self explanatory, But we actually need the sales agent name, not just the i. D. Because the sales manager isn't going to remember somebody by the sales agent. I d. And we do have a table that probably has sales agent data, and that was the Excel sheet we downloaded. So we're gonna add another data source, and this is a typical process that you do as a data analyst. You might go through some tables and realize that maybe this one table doesn't have. What do you need? And you need some more information in tableau. You can bring in other data sets and other tables and connect it to humane table. So that's what we're gonna do. So to add a second data source, what you do is you navigate to the top lift. Wait is add and click on it. Now you should be used to this part of the section. It's just asking you to connect to the data source that you want to add. And I want to add the sales agent worksheet for Excel so you can connect to Microsoft. Excel, right? Yeah, I'm gonna click on it and gonna never get to the foldaway You store the data sets for superstore and click on superstore underscore sales agents, so dot excel this X file and click open. Okay, Now, something weird has just happened. So usually, whenever you bring in a data source tableau assumes that you wanna connected to your orders table, and how you connected is by joints. I'll go over joins in a few minutes, but let's just have a look at what's happening on the left. So you see now these two connections appearing and it shows you what type of connections I also they both excel sheets. And if I click on the blue tab can see immediately down, it shows up what's in superstore orders, which has the sheet orders and the fact click on the orange tab. It shows what's in superstore sales agents, which is a sales agent tab. You notice that it is color coded, So anything from this connection is orange, and you can see sales Agent here is orange and anything from the state of connection is blue, and orders is blue. Now, if Tableau didn't make a mistake and he didn't want to actually bring in the sales agent table, you can remove it. So if you click on this arrow and click remove, that removes it. And now we're back to our first step. But I do actually want sales agents in there. So remember what I was talking about earlier is that this table is incomplete. Actually, one sales agent names on there because the sales manager chances are he's not going to know the sales guys by the ideas. He's gonna know them by their names. So we brought in the day to sit over here. So click on it and let's just have a look and what's in the sheet before we bring it into this mainframe. And to do that, click on the sales agent sheet here. And if you click on this little table icon, it will bring up a view off what's in that spreadsheet. Okay, in the spreadsheet, we have Level Jr Mid level Executive. So this is probably the level off the employees we have. Name off sales agent. We have state. The sales agent is from with surname, off sales agent. We have the age and okay, we have a sales agent, I D. No, we have the information that we need and you notice that there is one column in particular that's the same its sales agent, I. D. Hill and sales agent I d here. And that's how are we going to connect the two tables? Because it has a field that is matched to bow tables, and we call it a primary key. So now that be decided how we're going to connect the two tables, let's bring it in. So close is and click on sales agent and want you to drag it and drop it anyway. Here, okay, and you can see it's once again joined. What tableau is telling us is that it's joining orders to sales agent, and now it's having this little It looks like an Olympic sign logo, and this year just describes how it's joining it. So let's click it and you can see the tableau has decided to join it with an inner join and it's joining the data source is joining it on state for orders and for sales. Agent is joining it on state. We should join it on sales Agent I d. Because that's the common one. And it accurate. So let's click sales agent i d here. So when she did click state on the left and you can see all this fields are fields from the orders table. All right, so remember remember, this bar on the left represents your table on the left and the bond the right represents your table on the right. It means that the joints don't match, right, cause sales agent ideas. Probably a number and state is a string, But the right table we must join on the same. So click on it and select sales agent I d. So let's go over what each one represents. So, firstly, before we start, remember, when you think about joins on tableau, think about it as a way to link several tables. So here's an example that I put together. Let's say we have two tables, Table A's order data, and you can see it has order. I d product i d customer name and region and table B is product data. So it has product i d. Product name category. So I mean, if you can see Okay, product idea is the same here, and it's the same here, so we can link them together. Correct. And tableau gives us four different ways. We can link them. So the first day we have seen is the inner join, and the inner joint produces only the state of records that match in both Table A and Table B. So what it's saying is that if we decide to join on product I D, then that same product, I d must be present in order and it must be present in your product table. So let's go back, right? So, for instance, product I. D. P. One and product i. D P one is present in both the tables, so joining on an inner join in tableaux will bring back all of these results. Full P one Peter is the same. So p two is present here and it's present in table B, so it's gonna bring back everything. P three again is the same. So p three is present in Table A present and table B, but P four and P five aunt. So people is prison and table A and P five is prison and table A. But before MP five, you can see they're not present and table B similar P six and table B isn't in table A and in your inner join if you join on product i d. It's not gonna bring product ideas that aren't present in both tables, so Let's have a look. I'm just gonna scroll down, okay? And this is a final table. So if we decide to join table and table B on product, I d. You can see product p one p two and P three show up, but people be five and p six don't because they want in both tables. Next one. We've also seen there's a lift joint option as well. And what the left join does is that it only select your data from you left table and matching rose on the right. So let's go back to the original tables. So if you decide to lift join on product, I d. Then it's going to take all of the rows in your table A which is your left table. Super Store- Building Charts Part 1: Hi. Welcome back. So in this listen, we are going to be building some charts for our fancy sales agent dashboard. And before we do that, I am going to show you what we're going to be boarding. Just so you have a bitter background on it, someone opened up my previous weapons. So this is what we're going to be building. I know it is looking a bit more detailed than the previous dashboards, but let me show you. Hide works So the sales manager is going to come in and he's going to select a date frame in which he wants the analytics. So he's going to select a started, which I've selected as the first of January this year and inundate. So let's do April 30th. I think the data only goes up to April flood here, but it's just a concept that you need to know. Okay, so one subject that you can see the whole dashboard updates, and now whatever analytics here is related to this time frame. So from January until April. So if you look at the headline cards that say, sales for 2020 between January to April is 100 and 60,000 for everybody last year this time . So last year between January to April, they only made 132,000 and there's a 21% growth. So good growth. This chart is just your monthly sales for 2020. So this depends on the timeframe the sales manager picks. It will show you the monthly sales, and also the average is also sales but category. So it's a donut shot. We are going to be learning how to do a donor chopped sales post, subcategory their sales by agent and these top five products by sales. So this is the overall view off sales and how it's doing for the time frame that the sales manager picks. But he also hunted by agent, so what he can do is in this graph, he can select an agent. So let's select Santiago Howard. And once you select his bar, the whole dashboard updates and Santiago, he's made $32,000 in sales this year. Last year he's made 28,000 with a 14% growth. This year is how he's doing on a monthly basis, and this is his average. This is how much he's made put category his sales per subcategory and his top five products by sales. If you noticed when you click on his ball, this comes up. Click for breakdown off sales, and if you click on it, it actually gives you a nice little breakdown on your sales this year. The sales last year compared to growth by category, and it also gives you some information about him so very useful dashboard. We're going to cover a lot of things. So in a cover, Donald charts top five being a cover filtering and dashboard actions, so definitely a dashboard to pay attention to. All right, let's get to it. Okay, so the first thing we going to create is thesis is managers user selection dates. And what I'm gonna say is, or what my logic is going to be, is if the order date because between the start date and the in date that the sales managers selected, then show me the sales. Otherwise, don't show me it because the sales manager just wants to concentrate on the sales that he's selecting for the time frame. So let's right the structure of our if statement first. It's called end. And what it does is is that it? Add on another scenario. So now we have two scenarios that are linked because I want order date to occur between thes two timeframes and make Sens and we can do that would end. Okay, so what's our answer? While onto is easy. I just want to see sales. So if the order date occurs between our start date and in date that the sales managers licks, show me sales else, I don't care. We'll just see zero. And now you can see the calculation is valid and it's making sense and select. Okay, so let's just do a quick check and how logic Yeti Gate Calculations is upbringing in. So I bring in the order date, so click and drag or the date to rose and change it to month. Eah, So click on the arrow and go down past this first section because I want Month AEA and click on this. It's looking correct. What do we need next? Well, we want the sales last year for the same time period, so I want sales between 1st January 2019 2 31st of March 2019. How do you do that? So I just want to go back to this formula. So click on the arrow and click it so to cocotte the sails full previous time, period. So between 1st January 2019 to 31st March 2019 Emma, right? And saying that all we need to do is we need to change thes two fields. And what we need to do is just mind this A Yeah, right. That makes sense. If we change these two fields and minus a year from these two dates, it would give us lost your sales for the same time period. Okay, so let's close this. That means we need to actually create two fields that are similar to the select started, but we're gonna minus a year from them. So let's do it. Let's start with the stock date. Okay, so we actually went through the two hardest calculations and if you are able to go through that, then that's pretty awesome. It's definitely ah harder calculation to do on tableau, But agency very useful. Okay, it's now we're ready to create a girl. And the first graph only create is just the monthly sales based on the time frame that the sales manager selects. So click on YTD sales this year and double click and now let's bring in order date. So click on order date and drag and drop it by columns. Okay, and let's change this order date to stop just a year. As you can see, let's change a two month year. So click on the arrow and go down to man Theo, right? So now the graph is obviously looking. We had, considering it doesn't have sales for all of these months, and that's because it's a year to date sale field that we brought in based on the time frame. It's only going to bring in sales for the time frame that the sales manager selects. So how can I get rid off everything else? Well, the simple way is just to filter out zero sales. So if you hold command and select this field and bring it into a photo, so drop it here and I want to filter out all the sales of zero so select some click next and it's do. At least I say, I want to show at least 0.1 sales and more and take okay, that's just giving us sales, which is January, February and March for the time period that the salesmen adjusts. Alex, let's just see if April is brought in. So let's just change. Select in date to end of April and there we go. April's also brought in OK, this is good. That's just formatted, but also, let's just increase the size of the line A. But so click on size on your marks pain and increase its toll. Select the grid line and say none. Okay, so let's change the title. Double click on the title. Beck space, Everything and say sales five months selected and centralized and change it to tabla. Bold. So click on Tabla Light changed you, tabla, bold and keep 15 and then press in tow, actual in a show to start and in date that selected on the title And do you? That's quite easy. Someone sales by month from the stock date to in dates, So type in from space to and in between from and to just put another space there. So now there's a space after from and before, too, and kick on insult. And you can see this parameters here and say Start date. So click on it right and I say to space and insult and click on in date. Let's make this a bit smaller. So select everything until from and change the fund to 10. Okay, and now click. OK, and now you can see our start date and in dates that are selected appears on the title, and if you decide to change the start date here or the in date, it's going to show up on the title. Okay, so this is Theglobe oath formula, and it should be a percentage. And to get it, you take the current value minus you paused value divided by your pasta around you, and it gives you a growth rate. So 0.51 in this example, which is 51%. So in our case, we would take the year to date sales this year, minus the yet to date sales last year over the Yeti details last year. So let's calculate growth. So to do that, it's open up a calculated field. Click on the arrow, say, create calculated field and call it growth, okay, and it will be some yeah to date sales this year, minus the sum year to date sales last year. So we have prison which is some year to date sales this year, minus plussed some year to date sales last year. And we basically need to divide this whole thing by some year to date sales last year. So it's do that. So I want to put this whole thing in records, and it's doing at the front and say Divide some open records ytd sales last year, close records and click OK, and that's growth. Super Store- Building Charts Part 2: Hi. Welcome back. So in this listen, we are going to cover three more charts, which is our donut chart on top five products and our sales by subcategory. So let's have a look at how they look. OK, so as you can see, here's our donut chart and other charts are a bit more complicated to do just because this is not a standard graph on tableau. We're gonna do sales pub category, which is pretty simple and top five products by sales. And this will involve something called a sit. I'll see how long the station is. If it's not too long, we can add headline cards else. If it is Alderden the next listen. So let's get to it. Okay, so for the Donna Trot, we are going to duplicate the sheet once again. So right click on sales by sales agent and say duplicate. It's changed the tab name. So double check backspace and say sales by category and select okay and select out. And let's just remove all the polls. Let's keep some year to date sales this year. Okay, let's change the title. So instead of sales by sales agent, it'll be sales by category, so double click and remove sales agent and replaced with category click. OK, okay. So what we want is we want the sales by category. It's gonna be year to date sales. So let's find category, which is here in the orders table and double click on it. And it's find a year to date sales this year, which is right at the bottom of measures and double click, and it's change this to a pie graph. So to do that, click on show me and select Pie. Okay, so this is how you create a pie trot. But obviously I don't want to create a pie chart. I'm going to create a donut chart which has a hole in the middle and just looks better. So before we do that, let's just put this in an entire view. So over here, select entire view. Now, how are we gonna do This is a but weird It doesn't make sense. Logically, it's just a pattern that you follow to create a donut chart. So when you want to create a donut chart, you book for number of records, which is the auto generated field in tableau. I want you to click it. I want you to drag it to Rose. So pick it. Dragon 22 rows. Okay, So don't worry about how it looks now, and what we're gonna do is we're basically creating two pi trots, and one is going to be a proper pie trot, which we just saw before. The other one is just gonna be a blank circle, and that would be our donut hole. So once you brought a number of records, it's a sums. I want you to change it to a minimum. So click on the arrow, go to measure and change it to a minimum. Cash nights back to looking like a pie trot. It's not what you do. Duplicate this field and bring it next to the field. So click control. Oh, come on, applicant Hman. Number of records drag it and drop it right next to it again. Now we have two pi trots. And remember what I said is that on them on top of each other and one's gonna be a blank circle and one is just gonna be as is, and we're gonna change the size of the circle to create a donor. Okay, Right. And let's replace sales agent name with subcategory. So look for subcategory. Click it, drag it, and as soon as it's on top of sales agent name, Drop it. Okay, let's remove the color. So click on coloring for growth and remove it and its color it the turquoise. So select color and color it this color here, okay, and it's sort by descending. So this icon him. Great. I'm happy with that. Right? So now we have our lost truck to do, which is the top five products? Okay, sell it. Duplicate the sheet again. So right click on sales by subcategory and click duplicate. So what are we creating this it on while we are creating licit on product name because you want the top five products so fine product name in your database and click on the arrow and select, create and say, Sit. So sit in tableau is basically almost like a calculation or set of a logical functions. We can ask questions in your data so you can do things like tell a tableau to show you the top five of something or top 10 or something, etcetera. All right, so let's name the sit. Let's call it top five products my sales and kick on top because that's our format. We want to top five, Gonna say by field, you can see it's pretty much done for us. It's a stop 10. We know it's products by yet to date sales this year, and it's taken the some. So all we need to do is change this. 10 2 of five kick weights is 10 deck space and say five and click. OK, so now you see a sit has been created here and the state works as a filter, so let's click on it, drag and drop it by folders, and now you see the top five products. Okay, so I think we have most of our charts. We just need our headline card. So let's create those quickly. Let's duplicate this truck So right click Top five products. Click Duplicate. Let's rename the tab to sales this year, So double click on it Tech space and say sales. This Yeah, alright and just do the same for the hitting. So double kick on the hitting Beck space took five products and say sales this Yeah, and select. Okay, right, so let's remove everything on the sheet. So removal the polls. So click on level and drag it and put it next to Rose and let's do category so category in orders to drag it and put it next to level. Okay, and then we have three metrics we have this year last year and growth. So just double click on yet to date sales this year and double click on the year to date sales last year and double click on growth right, and now you can see it comes up as a tick stable, which is fine. So let's just change the view. So instead of standard, click on it and say foot with and it's just sighs the stricken sizes however you want. But I just wanted to look at birth. Nieto and I will change the order off this column so want this year first last year. Next and then growth lost when you can do this with this, so click on YTD sales this year and dragged right to the top and take on groves and drag it to the bottom. But as soon as I kick on a sales agent, it doesn't bring back Top five products, and that's because it's actually faltering. The top five products across the whole data sit, and then it sees. Okay, so all those products actually sold by Lorraine and it brings it in, which is incorrect. It should actually full toe this dashboard action first and then fall to the sit. So let's change that. Let's go to Top five products and it's go to the worksheet. So to click the worksheet, you can click on this icon here. And when we work with Dashwood falters, they come up as actions. And remember what I said? I said, I want this falter to happen for us. So, Auntie Sales agent to be faulted first and then tableau must calculate the top five products for that specific sales agent. Right now, a tableau is doing it the other way around. So to do that, it's very easy. We just need a total blow, which falter to calculate first. Okay, so this is going to be a shipping dashboard, and it's gonna concentrate more on an exception, which is any outstanding shipments. So let's have a look at the data. Sit. So the connection details are in North Wind, Doctor pdf, which are in the resource a section of this Elektra. And just not if you are having issues to connecting to Maria TB, then please use thesis es refiles attach it in the lecture description as well. Connecting to a database is not hard. I just want to show you how it's done. And after you done connecting, it's pretty much the same thing we've been doing. So if you all haven't issues to connecting to Maria DB, then just watch how you connect to a cloud database. And then after that, you are welcome to use thesis E S P Files, right? And the logo is prison, so make sure you don't know that for dashboard. All right, so I just want to show you the connection details. Okay, so this is the connection details to North Wind. The database is Maria db. And usually when you are connecting to a cloud database on tableau, you need the following fields. So you need a server. It looks like a link. Sometimes it is an option on tableau to ask you for database. Most of the time, you can just leave it blank because it does give you an option to select to the database. Who, once you've made the connection, their support, a user name and a password. So that's all you need to connect to a cloud database. So instead of doing manual joints that we do. And if you have a already written sequel code, you can use a chair. So I'm not going to do that because this class isn't about sequel. And let's think about the project brief. So, ideally, the stripping manager wants to see what orders have not been shocked. And the isn't order details now, usually on databases. If you have orders table the corresponding table, two orders would be order details, and it's named as so. So hopefully there'll be some sort of product i d or something that we can use. So let's click on it. Okay, Awesome. So this does have product. I d discount. It has a quantity off the product in the unit price. So I think we should bring this in. And also just a note that this table has multiple order I ds. So these order ideas are the same, but different products. Which means this table is probably our most granular table, and it should be a primary table, and I'll explain that in a little bit. But let's just see if we can have more productive tales here. So I think we need one more table, probably relating to product. Let's have a look. Okay, so there is a product table here. Let's go ahead and view data. Okay? I'm just gonna expand it. Cool. So this pretty much has what we need. It has a pluck name. It has a category i D. Quantity per unit supplier discontinued. Product ready reorder level unit price units in stock units on order. And I think maybe you should bring in the category because we probably are gonna do a graph just based on categories with outstanding shipments. So let's close this table, and it's just look for category table. So there is one here. Let's view it. Okay. Cool. This is a small table. It has a category names, some description, has a picture. This field is weird, but we're not going to use it. And category I d. Okay, so I think we sold it. They all four tables that we need to connect to. While the left joint would actually look at every single order, i d in order details and it will find the matching or the I D in orders. Your table on a left, four left. We haven't order count by category, so shipped orders are gray and orders yet to be shipped all blue, so he can just tell which categories are doing worse based on how big the boys on the bottom is. Just a count off order shipped for April 2019. So that's the order date he selected on the right is account of orders in April 2019 that haven't been shocked which isn't too bad. And lastly, we have a map off orders yet to be shipped by country. So this is what we're going to be building Pretty simple, but exception. OK, So I think before we start, we're gonna have to bump up those dates because we are publishing this to tableau public. And, you know, having dates from 1998 etcetera isn't really great. And if you hover over it, you can see there's a description to the right and it says returns a number of items in the expression and count de which is count distinct returns the number off distinct items in the expression. So what would it be? Well, I wanna count the number off Unique order I ds. So it would be county. I could remember We do have some duplicate order I ds in our order details table. So I want a distinct count because I want to unique or the i ds care when you don't know that Select Okay and now let's double click it. And now the new field called Total would account. It's created and if you double click it, it will appear onto the view. So double click it So now this is giving us the all time total order count per category And remember the project Breathe. Thes shoving manager actually wants to select the date off the order, and I'm sure he said he wants to select a specific month. So let's look for order date, and now we're gonna bring it into a filter that he can choose. So click on Order Day to make sure it's the new field or not. The Oldfield and you gonna click it and drag and drop it under falters. So click drag and drop it under folders. Okay, how are we gonna fall to this? So I want you to create a new sheet at the bottom, and we are going to delete the sheets, so don't worry about it too much. Let's bring in order Date to the folder. So click on order date drag and drop it on the altar. Select Mantia and let's do maybe the to most recent months. So April 2020 and May 2020 and select. And if you want ticks, do you wanna change it back to discrete? So click on the arrow and change it to discrete at the bottom. Okay, So what do we have? Well, we have old ideas. We have the order date, and the last column is ship date. And we noticed that some ship dates are No. So what does that mean? Well, it means that all these orders with ship date now we have not been shipped. So now in tableau just basically means blank, as in the field has nothing there. And you can see the most recent orders so fluffed and sex may for the status. Yet all has knows. So in order to count orders which have not been shipped yet, our ship date needs to be now. And that's a calculation we going to do. We're gonna determine if in order shipped or not, and then we're gonna count the orders which have not been gypped. So let's do it. Now. Let's create our first calculated field, and this field will just be a flag and it's gonna check. Is their ship date? No. So the order hasn't been shipped. So let's create a calculated field click on the arrow here to create calculated field. And it's cool. This field is shipped. And again, let's go through a logic. So if the ship date is now, I didn't know it's not shipped. If it's not know, then yes, it is shipped. Now, this is obviously going to be a if statement. So let's write out the structure now. So say if and square brackets scenario one, then answer one else square records answer to end. Okay, so what are you gonna say? I'm going to say if the ship date is now, then No, it hasn't been shipped else. Yes, it has been shipped. So scenario one would be determining if the ship date is no. And that can be done by the isn all function. So I want you to go to the right and make sure your function pain is opened by taking this arrow and type in is no. And the description here is it returns true if the expression does not contain valid data, which is what we want. So instead of scenario one, I want you to select it and backspace and say is no open records and put in your ship date . Make sure it's a new ship Date close brackets. So if your ship date is blank, then no, it's not shipped so on, the one would be No. Remember, it's a word. It's a string. It's a set of characters, so it needs to be in quotation marks. And just to note, if your answer is gonna be in quotation marks, i e. It's a string. All your answers must be a string you can't make one a number and one string. OK, so onto two. So if our ship date is now, then no, it hasn't been shipped Else if it's not no than yes, so onto two would be Yes, and click. Ok, okay. And the new field is shipped shows up. So let's drag it and drop it next to day off ship date. So click, drag and drop next to day off ship date and it's double check this flag. So if ship date is now, then it should say no, it hasn't been shipped, and it looks like it is crit. Okay? And in the next calculation on one to calculate while we're on this topic is to actually count Theo orders which haven't been shipped. And we can base that new calculation on our is shipped flag. So you put everything in brackets and at the beginning, off the statement before the bracket, you say county. And what this is saying is tableau please do a distinct count if orders have not been shipped and do it for the old I D. Okay, so let's check this. So if we bring in the count of orders not shipped, which is our new field into this work pain, what it should do is that it should only count the orders. Way is shipped is no. So click on count of orders not tripped and double click it. And now you can see it appears as a text here in your marks pain and let's have a look. The last column will represent the count of orders not tripped when you have one column as a measure, Tableau doesn't put a hitting there, which, and I'm not sure why they do it, but it happens, so let's have a look. This has not been shipped. This order here and its content. This order here has been tripped and it's not conduct. So everything looks. This is good. You can delete the sheet or keep it as a chick, so I'm just going to rename it a shipping chick. So double click on the tab below backspace and save Shipping. Shipping Chip. So going back to sheet one. Let's rename. She'd once a double click on sheet one backspace and say, Count off orders. Let's call the heading Total count of orders. So double click on the hitting, backspace everything. It's a total count off borders and select everything. Centralize it, make it black and change the fund to tableau bold and click. So let's add labels off the total or the count. So I want you to press command or control on your keyboard. Click on Total or the Count and drag it and drop it to label. So hold control or commander nooky, Bad click on Total or the Contra member. This creates a duplicate field and drop it on label. Let's get rid of the grid lines as per my usual change. The fund to tabla, bold and maybe the background a different color. So to do that, you're going to right click anyway on this chart and click format to let the first icon, which is an A make sure sheet, is highlighted. Select worksheet Because we want to apply the front across the whole worksheet selector. Blow bold and make it black. Okay, and then go to the bucket sign of the full bucket son. Make sure again, it's elected on sheet. Click on worksheet and make It may be the sudden gray, and lastly, let's do the grid line. So go right to the end with the lines off selected. It is vertical grid lines, so it would be columns and you can see a grid line pops up here so selected and say none. Okay, looking good. So next chart is just account off total orders for the month. So to keep formatting, let's duplicated so right click at the bottom off the count of orders tab and select duplicate that's renamed the tab. So double click on the counter orders to tab Backspace and say, count off orders for a month, and this is probably account of orders shipped on me. So we're going to write that in the titles. A total count of orders shipped so double click the title and we had say's orders, but a space. So in between orders and my order date and typing Shumpert select. Okay, that's get rid off all the pools except the photo, so drag and drop it out. Okay, so let's bring in order date. So select order date. Make sure it's a new one. Click in dried it. Change it to day. Month. Eah, So click on the arrow scroll right down to Dave Mantia and select it. And now we're gonna do a total count. So select total or the count dragged and drop it. Two columns. Okay. It's obviously in versed. So let's what trick? Because I wanted the date to a P and the ex excess and the total order Contra p and the why So click on the icon. Yeah, all right. So when you deal with MEPs, the first step would be making sure that your fields have the correct geographic off leg and then the second step would be dragging the field. You want to the detail and that will form you map. If you noticed. Tableau has already taken the liberty off adding trip country and postal code as a hierarchy together, so you can see these two are in the hierarchy. And because we only need ship country, we're just going to double check the field type. So click on this world Icon four ship country. Click on geographic role and make sure country slash region is selected. Then we're gonna drag it and drop it to detail, so click, drag and drop to detail. So now you see a map and you'll see the countries that show up, which will have orders that haven't been shipped to them yet. So I want to size them on the total count of orders. To do that, we get the total or the con field, and we drag it to size. So find the total Otakon field on the left, click and drag to size, and now they may look about similar. So let's create that calculated field, so create a calculated field. Click on the arrow at the top, select, create calculated field backspace and call it a percentage not shipped. And it's simple. So it's gonna be the count off orders not shipped, divided by total order. Count now, because both these fields have air gets in the calculation. So we both have counts. It is a company called Tesla, which I'm sure you may have heard off, and what I wanted to do was mainly show you tableaus capabilities off, using something like Google Sheets to Boulder Dashboard and publish it on tableau public. Now, if the Google sheet has Theobald City to update tableaux public, your published dashboard on tableau public will also update one today. So it's nice knowledge to know about tableau, especially if you plan on releasing dashboards out in the public and you want them to update daily. So this is what the project will consist off. So let's give it a read. Tesla is an American electric vehicle and clean energy company. An important shareholder is tired of receiving only monthly updates off the stock price. He says that he would like to see any trends off the stock price specifically for the last three months. He also wants US data to be updated daily. He says it's important for him to know the average monthly stock price, daily closing figures and the volume of stock traded. OKay, So let's have a look at the data. Sit. Okay, So we are going to create our own day to sit using Google sheets, and they're handy little function called Google Finance. So before we start, make sure that you have a Google account and that you remember the Loggins. And as per usual, make sure you download the Tesla logo to use on our dashboard. That's it. Tesla - Creating a Data set: Hi. Welcome back. So in this lesson, we are going to learn how to create our own data source in Google sheets that we're going to connect to Tableau and Bold a dashboard. So instead of opening tableau, we are going to do an additional step. So want you to open new browser and go to doc. Stood google dot com so d o c IHS dot google dot com So if you haven't yet signed in, you would probably need to sign in on Let's never get to Google Sheets. So click on the hamburger menu and select sheets. Okay, so now we're going to create a new sheet. So select the big colorful plus sign here. Let's say is blank. Okay, so this is a new sheet. Its name it where it says untitled spreadsheet. You can click it and it's calling Tesler data. So now we're gonna use a function that Google Sheets have called Google Finance, and I'm just going to navigate over toothy help document for it just so you can get a better idea. OK, so as you can see the help documents which you can just such for on Google, So I such full Google sheets, Google Finance and this popped up. But I will include the link in the lecture description. Okay, so what does the help document save? Well, it say's that the function Google Finance pitches current and historical securities information from Google Finance and how you use it is that you obviously input the function . Google Finance. You add the company tag or they call it a ticker, and you include what column or attribute you want. And if you want, you can include a date range as well. So for our one, we obviously want a Tesla, tico or tag, and I want to include all attributes, which generally is the open and close prices, highs and lows and thieve volume trader and the date range. I'm gonna probably do from the first off, 2018 to the first off. 2021. We are going to go but into the future. Just so the dashboard updates publicly. Okay, so let's input dysfunction onto a Google sheet. So go to your Google sheet, make sure it's named, and on the first column, first row, select the cell Chris equals and, you know, cold the do go function so it's gonna be Google Finance. So that's our opening date so that our start date in date will be the last day. So I'm going to do 1st January 2022. You can choose one ever indeed you want, but just do it so it's in the future. So open quotation marks and say one slash one slash 20 to 2 close quotation marks and then comma space and our sink, or how often this data updates is going to be daily tableaux. Public only has the ability to update the dashboard daily. You can't get smaller increments in that, so there's no use trying to update this sheet live when tableau public can only update daily. Tesla - Connect to Data: Hi. Welcome back. So, in this listen, we are going to connect to our date. Is it that we created on Google Sheets? So open up, tableau and let's get to it. Okay, so you're going to connect to Google Sheets and that is actually in the pain to a server. So it's where you connect to all your service in the cloud, and I want you to select more. And let's search for Google sheets some searching for Google sheets at the top. When it appears, click on it. Now it takes you immediately to your browser and it asks you to sign in with your Google account. If you aren't signed in already or choose the account to you want to authorize Taboada stop in. So I'm gonna sign in. Okay. So once you signed in. Okay, so it's gonna ask you for access to your Google sheets account in your Google account, So click allow. And now you done so you can close window and open tableau. Okay, so once he done authorizing, you will see a new window pop up and over and over here it will show you all your sheets in your Google account. so you can just select the latest one that you've created. If you can't find it, then go back to your Google sheet and copy the U. R L at the top, and you can paste it here and it's such and it will find the Google sheet. So double click on it, backspace and put a tous le data. Okay, so everything else looks fine. We have a date, which is a data field type date in time. We have our open stock price. Our high are low, our clothes and volume. And remember, the whole objective off this dashboard is for it to update daily on tableau public. And to do that, there's a few things that you need to do. And and to do that, there's a few things that you need to do whenever you need a dashboard to update daily on tableau public, you need to make sure that extract is selected and that you create an extract. If you do it on live, it's not gonna work. So make sure extractors created. Make sure that this connection is a Google sheet connection and we're good to go. So I think everything else is pretty sits. Like I said, it's simple enough, so create the extract. To do that, we click on sheet one, which is right at the bottom, the orange tab and find somebody. Tesla - Building Charts: Hi. Welcome back. So, in this listen, we are going to build our charts for dashboards. And before we bowled, I want to take you through to the final product just so you can get a background idea on it . So let me do that. Okay, So this is the final dashboard that we are going to be building, and it is pretty simple. So the shareholder asked analytics on the last three months. So for that we use our relative date filter. And when we changed the filters, it applies to the whole dashboard. And then we get our cards or headline card. So the highest price within the three month falter, the lowest price and the last three month average. So for March, April and may, we then have a line graph for the daily close price. And we do at a trend line which makes use off tableaus, analytics pain. This is a straight up burger off with the volume per day to the right, there's the daily highs and lows and below is thebe percentage difference between the daily open and close cases. I think the time that I'm recording this Tesla has bean having a few fluctuations in their stock prices. So it is actually a good time to develop a dashboard like this. And I would say, whenever companies go through changes in the stock prices, you should definitely board dashboards like this and publisher to your Lincoln or your social media because they generally gain a lot of traction since its current analytics. Also, one more thing that I haven't really spoken about is that whenever you do publish dashboards to terrible public, just add your name somewhere, whether it's on the title or something. But just get into the habit off adding your name to all the dashboards that you publish. So when it's out there, people can still credit to you. Okay, anyway, let's get to it. So let's open up tableau. Okay, so, firstly, let's board the bus trot, which is a daily close price, and it is basically the close price at the end of the day. For the last three months, let's find date in dimensions and double click on it and let's find clothes which is here in measures and double click on it. All right. We want to change it to a line graph, and we want daily close prices. So I think First, let's change this. So now it's showing as year to date. So let's change it to day. So I obviously want the day Mantia or month, Day year. So click on the arrow. So go past the first section to the second section and Solich day. Okay. Looks very weird now. Almost like a caterpillar. But we're going to change it. So on show me which is at the top, right? Click on it. And we want a line graph so you can click on this one, which is the 1st 1 Okay, click out of Show me by clicking on Show me his name. Okay, looking good. Now the show don't wanted just the last three months, so we don't need data from 2018 to prison, But just the last three months, So we are going to add a date. Folta. So click on date. I want you to drag and drop it on photos. Remember, he wants last three months, so that is a relative date. So click on relative date, click. If you want a custom color, you can click on more colors and that color wheel pops up. But the straightest fine and it's changed the size. So I always like making the lines slightly sicker because they just look better on dashboards. OK, and now let's get rid of the grid lines. So right click anywhere on the tract. Click for Mitt so you should know how to do this by now and click on the Last icon, which is lines and it is horizontal. So it's Rose and click on grid lines and say none. Okay, let's change the funds as well. So click on a so at the top here, Make sure Sheet is selected because we want to apply fun changes to the whole sheet and click on worksheet tableaux bold So selectively book, Click on tableau Bold and you can make it all black. Okay, the last thing I want to add to this is the trend line. So close this format box. So kick the cross sign, and for trend lines, you go to analytics, so there's a data tab click on analytics, and here you can do a whole bunch of things. It is pretty simple to drag and drop, so I'm not going to go into too much detail. So if you want, like a constant line anywhere on your chart, So let's say that steak a holder has a target off more than 600 you want a horizontal line just across. Then click on constant line. Drag it and you can see as soon as you move it. This thing pops up, this window pops up and you just drop it on some of clothes and you input a values. Who is a 600 an inter and how you have a constant line, but I don't want a constant line, so to remove it, you click on it and click Remove So pretty easy. You can do the same with average lines, which we've done before, and median portals, box and whisker plots. You can do averages or medians with a 95% confidence interval, and you can do trendline and four cost. So let's kick on trend line in a drag and drop it, and we're gonna do a linear one. So dragon overlay Nia wanted highlighted. Drop it. Okay, so I have a play around that. The cool thing is, when you hover over the trend line, it actually shows you the R squared and P value as well as the trend line equation. So let's change the title. So double click on sheet one and backspace everything and call it daily. Close price highlight. Everything changed the fund. Type two tabla bold. Change the color to black and centralize it. Click OK, And then you're gonna call sheet one the same so called a daily close price of double Click on it black space and say daily close price. Okay, shot one is done. Okay, so let's do the volume per day. So what? That graph is pretty simple. I just want to show the volume instead of the close price. So let's duplicate the sheet. So down at the bottom on the daily close price. So what you do, right? Click select duplicate. Let's rename the tab. So double click on the daily close price to tab deck space and call it Volume traded, and it's do the same for the title. So double click on the title. Select everything backspace and call it volume traded. Click OK, all right, so let's remove these some clothes, pull from both places on the chart and let's bring in volumes and find volume and double click. And now I actually want this in Boss. Instead, let's change it, and you can do through. Show me, or you can do through the marks pain so you can see this input function on the marks pain. It has a line in stays automatic, so if you click on it, you can change it to any type. Are just one ball so slick ball and let's get rid of the trend lines or click on the trend line and select Remove. You can also change the size of the bars. I just wanted a bit smaller. So click on size and just I mean, if you really want to small that you can, it's up to you, but I think that looks fine. Okay, that graph is done. Okay, so let's create the next graph, which is daily highs and lows. So it's duplicated the sheet by click on volume traded tab at the bottom and click duplicate Change the tab name. So double kick on it deck space and call it daily high and low, and it's changed the title as well. So select everything and just backspace and say daily high, then low and for high. I want you to selected and change the color to read. So click on the color, change it to read and for low. We're gonna change it to Gray. So click on this color and change it to a doctor Grace of that one and click OK, and this way we don't need to bring in a legend. Just because we can distinguish from the title that high is going to be read and low is gonna be great. So let's remove volume from the graphs or click on it and drag it out and look for high in you measures and double kick it. Okay, let's change it to line so in the marks pain instead of bar, click on it and change to line. And now let's bring in lower. So find low in your measures and double click, and you can see once you bring in two pulls, it creates two tabs, so one some high and one some low, almost like out doughnut pie chart that we created. So basically, here you can change the color for one graph only. And that's what we're gonna do. So click some low and we're gonna change the color just for the low graph. So click on color and change it to grace. So maybe that great. Okay. And now we want a deal. Excess. So two created your excess. You make sure the two poles are next to each other and you click on the last poll. The arrow and do excess should show up here, so you click on it, and now you can see that they ought Together, the colors have changed, so we're gonna have to redo that. Okay, so this is the growth formula. We've used it before. And the formula is you taking the prison value or your most recent value minus your early value, divided by you early value. So, in our case, close price would be almost recent value and the earlier value would be open. So our Formula 4% change would be the son of a close price minus of some of open price over the some of our open price. So let's create a calculated field on tableau for that. Okay, so let's go ahead and create the calculated field. So click on the arrow select, create calculated field and let's call the calculated field presented change between open and close. So what is it gonna be? Whoa, It's gonna be the some open records off clothes. So as soon as you type C L, it appears, so click on it. Close brackets minus some open brackets and we know, say, open click on a pin. It appears those brackets And remember, As for the formula, we need to divide this whole thing by some open. So let's put this whole thing in records, and it's divided by some open records. Open close records. Okay, let's go back to a formula just to double check. Right? So we've taken our some closed, which is our present or most recent value minus some open, which is earlier value. We divided the whole thing over some open. Okay, so that makes sense. So let's looked OK and it appears right here. And remember, it's a percentage. So let's change the format. Now click on the arrow, go to default properties and select number format. Click on percentage and we can do to decimal places. That's why and not it's double click on the new field. Okay, there we go. I think the last tip would just be adding labels. So click on percentage change between open and close. Drag it and drop it on her label. All right, so it's looking good and the done thing. If you want to add something else, it's just that you actually want to add the open and close prices. So click on open drag it, and you just want to add it to talked up. So drop it on towards up and click on close drag and drop it on tooled up. So let's create some headline cards. So let's duplicate the sheet. So right click on the last tab and click duplicate. Let's rename it so let's call it. So let's call it highest close price. And let's just remove every pool on the charts except the data Folta. So just click and drag him out. Let's change the title. So double click on the title, Select everything and just a highest close price and select Okay and let's change this instead of lying to text so quick you and change to text. Okay, All right, so we went highest close price. So let's click on high and double click it. And now let's change this to text. So select Show me and click on text contract. So actually get rid off clothes and just a lowest price and maybe do the same for the previous card. So highest close price click on it and get rid of clothes. So a double click on the title and just removed clothes and call it highest price. Do the same for the tab as well. So double click on the tab and just remove clothes. Okay, let's go back to lowest price. Okay, so for lowest price, we're going to do the same. We are going to bring in low into text. So let's do that. Click on Low Dragon and as soon as it's right on top off the text, drop it. Okay, so you can see it went back to some low. But now what we want is we want the lowest low or in tableaus, Tom the minimum. So to do that, we're going to double click this and you can see you. So before we do that, let's change this type to text. So click on Show Me and Click Ticks table and kick out of Show Me. So click on Show Me again. So to do that, let's bring in date, and we want to bring it into column. So click date drag and drop it. Two columns. You can see it's doing a year, but I wanted month. Eah, so click on the arrow and go right down two months so it has month in here and click on it . Okay, Not going to change it to ticks toe one small because it moved back to a graph. Now let's change the text so slick text. Select alignment and centralize it. Select three dots on text and select everything and change it to 24. So change of the size to 24 and click OK, and it's changed the size off the hitters so hover over march right click and say form it and again see header must be selected fund click on front and It's change the size from 9 to 15. So select 15. Okay? And then change the alignment to scent of. So click automatic on the alignment row changed to center and change to center vertical as well. All right, let's make the title, but more smaller. So select this title of the graph. Select everything, and it's changing to 10. So fun sized him and select. Okay, Okay, better. All right. So select. Change what to 1300 pixels and height to 900 pixels? Click out. And before I bring in any charts, let's just remove all those side cards. So go back to the first chart, which is daily close price. Okay, so there's no side Qadissiya. Good. Next one. Volume traded. No side. Cod's daily high and low. There is a side cards. I'm going to remove it. Centred change, no side card, highest price. Nothing. Lowest price. Nothing. And last three month average nothing. Okay, let's go back to the dashboard. Okay, so we are going to be walking with containers again. And let's create our first vertical container. So select particle drag and drop it. Okay. Now I want the daily close price to be on top and the volume traded to be on the bottom. So select daily close price, click, drag and drop as soon as it's highlighted. Okay, volume traded. Same things are selected. Click drag, and as soon as it's highlighted just like this, drop it now. I want a another vertical container, and I wanted to the write off this dashboard. So selective vertical click it, drag it, and as soon as it's like this, drop it. Sometimes it takes a while to get it in the correct position, but you'll get there, all right, so the next graph I want is the daily high and low and then the percentage change. So right click the title and say hi title and the last one is highest price soldier to kick it Dragons. And as soon as it's to the left of lowest price, drop it a game. We're gonna hide the title. So right click and say Hi title. All right now, sometimes I like to add borders on my cards, so I do want a little bit of a border here. So click on this card, click layout and weigh. It says border. Click on it and it's do a dashboard us. So click on this dash and let's make it about the girls. So this thickness and it's changing to rid. So this color okay, looks good. OK, so the last thing I need is the logo and the text. So let's bring in one lost horizontal container and I wanted to write you. So before I do publish this dashboard, I just want to make clear that it is a Google sheet which technically is getting updated constantly. And in order to make it update on tableau public again, please remember that the data source needs to be an extract. Before you click Publish going back to your dashboard, we're gonna click on server at the top, go to tableau public and select Save to tableau public. And just remember your log in details. I always forget mine. I generally it it out. Five attempts off, trying to put it incorrectly. Right? So into your email and your password and click sign in and it's gonna ask you for workbook title. So just title it. I'm just gonna qualities like dashboard, and now this is new. So this pops up when you are connecting to a Google sheet. It says, Keep my data in sync with Google sheets and in bed my Google credentials. You have to select that and kick save, and now it will upload the data to the tableau. Public server takes a few seconds usually handed. There we have it. The final published dashboard for tears. Last stop price, which will get updated daily. So if you scroll down, you can actually check here when the data was lost. Updated, and you can request an update if you feel that there is new data and you'd like to see it on your dashboard and that is it. What I suggest doing is maybe copping the link at the top and paste in it on your resume and also include a portfolio of work on your CB, where you can include dashboards like lis.
