Project Description

Create a mood board for an art exhibit, favorite book or piece of music.

ASSIGNMENT

Your assignment is to create a mood board for an art exhibit, book or piece of music. Inspired by my 365-day Mini Mood Board series, you’ll follow a similar repeatable process to explore a concept or theme from your chosen work. Whether you’re a designer, dancer or writer, the ability to create powerful visual metaphors is applicable across a wide range of creative pursuits. This class is a great way to understand color, type, texture, shape and composition.

Keep in mind that the goal isn’t simply to make something that looks cool, but rather to kickstart the creative process and generate a meaningful presentation that communicates a concept or idea.

DELIVERABLE

Upload your mood board and share your thinking.  A finished project will include:

• A link or image and credits from your chosen art exhibit, book or piece of music.

• A collection of images and word associations from your research

• A list of credits (highly encouraged)

• A final mood board presentation

Note: Be sure to post inspiration, images and ideas along the way. Sharing your work is a valuable way of getting feedback from your peers, honing your presentation skills and tracking your progress.

PROJECT CREDITS

The "Birds of Paradise" mood board credits can be found on the downloadable PDF Project Guide included with the class.

This Skillshare class happened, in part, due to the support and creative talent of Daniel Stark at Stark Design. It's the awesome design agency where I spend many of my days and weekends working on mood boards, branding and packaging projects. In addition, Melanie Biehle generously shared her inspiring collage mood boards in the "Format" section and collaborated with me on my 365-Day Mini Mood Board series. Check out her artist's blog here. Special thanks.
