About This Class

The subcategories of form

What are the subcategories of form? In the previous parts of this series we became familiar with the basics of form. Now we are going to cover what attributes form has and how they affect the perception of an element. Understanding the different attributes and how they affect the perception of an element will make the usage and manipulation of these attributes easier. Let’s take a closer look on what we can expect from this learning unit.

What do we want to achieve?

We want to understand how shapes are created.

  • What makes a shape a shape?
  • What kind of type of shapes are there?
  • How do space and shape interact?

We want to know how color transmits information.

  • Where and how can color be applied?
  • How does color affect story and mood?
  • In which way do colors affect each other when combined?

We want to understand how texture changes an element.

  • What makes texture so special?
  • What kind of an effect has texture on an element?
  • How does texture change the perception of an element?

What are we going to cover?

  • Boundaries
  • Organic & geometric shapes
  • Shapes and space

  • Color as a background or as an element
  • Story and mood of color
  • Combination and impression of colors
