Project Description

Designing and Creating Your Own Woodburning

We will start with a smooth wooden surface and end with a gorgeous, original woodburned product.

Steps in this process:

  • Selecting your woodburner and wooden surface.
  • Practicing with the woodburner and getting a feel for the materials.
  • Creating your original design. What do you want to make? Will this piece of art be functional or decorative?
  • Keep your drawing/design on the simpler side, so you can focus more on the technique of woodburning.
  • Transferring your design onto your wooden surface.
  • Woodburning the design, and finishing touches.

Throughout the course, you can upload your idea sketches and photos of your work in progress to the project gallery, and share your experience and newfound knowledge with your classmates.

Deliverables:

  • At least one sketch of your design before you transfer it onto your wooden surface
  • A clear photo of your beautiful woodburned product.
  • Optional: a photo of your woodburned piece in use (i.e. coaster supporting a coffee mug, or hand-lettered sign hanging on a wall). It's so nice to see these beautiful functional objects in people's homes!
