1. Class Introduction: it's been, House will hit and we're gonna have a look here how we create backgrounds for our quotes in in design. So basically we're looking at is how it can automate the creation those backgrounds on manage them for close that between 3 to 6 lions long Now this kind of flexibility could be applied to paragraph quotes of different styles on. This is something you comply globally throughout your entire documents. Whether you've got quotes on 10 pages or quotes on 100 pages, that should be a really useful technique. Andi will help you get to grips of how paragraph stars on paragraph rules could be really useful in a number of different scenarios. 2. Setting Up Your Quote Styles: Okay, so here it is. I'm gonna have a look at how we can create a special style for our quotes that has a colored background. Now, the aim of this is really to produce a flexible way of green a background to a quote that has in dense. So it's invented on the left and on the right of our paragraph for our quotes and that weaken apply this easily. Two quotes within a range of a certain number of lines. As you can see here was got number of quotes on with different numbers of lines in them have applied a paragraph start to those quotes and that's what's giving it the background here. So let's go ahead and have a look at how we set this up. So we're gonna create a new in design document, will go to file new document. We're gonna create a brand new letter size document pain and half by 11 standard size document Not gonna increase the columns or margins or anything like that. Just click. OK, bring up. Ready document. Okay. So first thing we're gonna do is add in a text box. I'm gonna come to our title on the left hand tool by here and just pull out straight text box that we're then gonna fill with placeholder text. So we know it's type Philip placeholder text. Okay, now, within this type, we're gonna pull out a few separate paragraphs, and that will be between three and six lines clung on, and those will be our kind of test quotes that will be working with here. So I'm just gonna avoid being in those double spaces when you work with paragraphs you really want to use the paragraph breaks not double paragraph breaks within your documents. So this set of three lines here will be our first quote. That's when we're gonna work with We might edit the number of lines, love it later on, and then we'll grab 123456 lines from here. I'm just gonna break it a little bit because I know that when we add the invents, we're gonna extend that paragraphs height. So let's go ahead. And we're just gonna grab these paragraphs and odd out hard crust style to these quotes. So we're gonna go to type, bring up our paragraph styles panel, and once we got out we're gonna create brand new paragraph style. Okay, look, all this quote and then I'm gonna go ahead and add a little bit of space after I quit. Okay? On the time of its space at the beginning, About quote because we have space after all. Paragraphs on. Once we set the basic paragraph style, I'm in a second. We also have a left in them. Okay, To sell quote in a little bit from the edge of the page, we'll have a right in debt. And once we got our spacings up, we're gonna change our alignment to left. Justify because we're gonna get our square edge at the left and right. Believes the last line of our paragraph. Unjustified. Once you've done that, we're gonna go in and have a look at our paragraph rules. OK, so it basically without paragraph rules, we can add a ruler above and below a paragraph, but we can increase the point size of that. So that actually accident background to our text. Okay, so we're gonna turn the rule on, okay? And you'll see, we've now got out a line talk by paragraph on. We're gonna inset it, so I'm gonna have. Ah, right in Dent, my paragraph rule gonna left in dense my paragraph room. Okay. And then I'm gonna increase the point size of this to around 40 pixels. Okay, so you see, you get a big black bloc, I'm up there, and they were gonna change the color to red. Changed the tent to 20. Okay? And you can see now if we click, ok and the select our text and come back into our paragraph star, you can see this is starting to act as a background toe our text now. So if we go back to our paragraph falls, we can offset this rule with a negative number so that it sits behind the paragraph itself . So I'm just pressing the down arrow here. George said it. Or you can place the curses within the offset window and just do the up and down arrows on your keyboard to adjust that. Okay, so I will leave it with a weight of 40 on. Actually, increase that to 50 cent type in 50 there. I'm just offset it a little bit more. Okay, so it's filling up these full three lines off this quote when we're gonna get rid of this little last little bit of text in a second. Okay, so we'll now go to rule below. Okay. And want to turn that rule on as well. We're gonna make the settings the same. So we're gonna make this 50 pixels. We're gonna change the offset as well. Teoh. Negative number. Okay. Until it sits right over the top of that other paragraph, also with the tents that we're gonna use. So changes to read out of 10 12 20 tents don't multiply. So basically, when we just need to adjust that officer tie tiny bit, just keep stepping out there until almost matched with the top. That line. That should be okay on now. I'm going to go in ahead on How about my right index of point to five. So we'll match up on the right hand side there on left in Dent, 1.25 Okay, once that's done, can were pretty much all the way there. So now I'm just gonna remove this last little line. And what? Have a look how this works. Because I had that last line that I just deleted. I have to just my lawsuit here. I'm slightly. So I will go back to my paragraph rules and just adjust the offset. Um, okay. And now if I click OK, both those paragraph rules the rule above in the rule below overlapping each other. But they don't overlap, like capacity would overlap. So if I select this quote, prop it, Andi, paste it, you're gonna see that anywhere between three and six lines. I'm gonna get a nice backdrop for my quote. Okay, so let's go ahead and add a regular paragraph style. So just a basic paragraph style I want to do here. Is that a little bit space after my paragraph? Okay, so the paragraphs that spaced out on then I can apply that to other paragraphs. Create a quote, Andi, move through my text. Okay. You can see for two lying quote here. It's not gonna work. We need to go in and do some manual adjustment to believe that as a paragraph style Well, at a quote here and then for a longer quote, it wouldn't work. Would have to be somewhere between those three and six lines in this to sit nicely behind behind that text. Okay, so that's how to add paragraph rules to document to create a nice backdrop that will flow for quotes between three and six lines long and obviously, when you're creating your own rule, you can decide how long your quotes are gonna be and then adjust the height and officer of your paragraph rules as he set them up, okay? 3. Refining Your Quote Styles - Design Tips: Okay, So one of the great things that we've got now that we have this out is that we can go in and we can adjust these two rules without selecting any attacks. So if I just be select everything by grabbing the selection tool of getting away could go to my main paragraphs, start here, adjust the basic character formats that particular frontline Marriott probe. Okay, I'm a paragraph on. Then, for my quote, I can change the basic character formats here. But let's select Maria Pro. We'll slips a metallic funds okay on. We can also obviously go into parent rough rules and change the team currently using. So we decide that we want to use a different tint than we can flip that to a different color as well. So we can get some nice styling to our fonts. Black will also work nicely. Has a backdrop to a paragraphs down. Okay, it will work nicely. Is that is kind of great behind the text. You can also do a reverse If you want to say if we change that, didn't hear something like 80% will do that for the about on rolled below and then If we go to the character color and set that paper, we're gonna get this nice backdrop to a quote which is gonna have that reverse kind of feature to okay. And then for the main paragraph style, obviously we can jump in there. One thing that I like to do is match the backdrop for this box with the color or tent off that type weakness and now have made a tent black that 80%. Okay, so we get this nice, great touch tiny bit softer and the black that you re printing and just give it a nice, slick, a text, my slick Look, we can keep going with that, adjusting our type on working on it until we're happy with what we have. If you want to take this a step further and we know that we have quotes that are the same height in terms of the line that you're using, then we can also do another need effect. So if we grab this quote here, I'm just gonna paste air. I'm just gonna paste this in in between and now I'm gonna do is in the credit you quote, start something great quest to Okay, We will stick with three lines for this quote, because that is a little attacks that now, if we got into a quote, start to when we go to the paragraph rules. Okay, We have a rule below that 50 pick points. We have a rule above that. 50 points. Okay? And we have this left in debt here. Now, that's like difference. I was gonna change the color of my rule above two magenta, and you can see we get a slight nice effect there. But if we change the left, invent what we have here. We can actually get this line. Officer, I'm on the left hand side here, so if I change my officer here, Okay, moved manual manipulation here. Okay, Once we have that, we now have this nice pink line along the left hand side. That kind of highlights that the quote in a slightly different way. We can obviously change the right indent as well. So we get that a highlight on both sides, depending upon what you want. You could also dropped 10 backers wealth that it wasn't quite such a strong tent of magenta , which would give this a nice kind of designed effect too.
