Project Description

Create your illustrated letterform!

Following Gemma's innovative, creative method, create an illustrated letterform of your own. From finding your botanicals to inking your final piece, share every step along the way. Upload sketching, typographic inspiration, and your digital collage before you're finished!

Things to consider:

  • Gather different sizes and shapes of flowers, plants, and berries, including a "hero flower" to anchor your piece
  • Sketch your own letterform or license a typeface you like (just make sure there's enough room within the letter for detailed illustration)
  • Size up your sketched letter before photographing your botanicals so you can see how they'll fit
  • When you're ready to ink, refer to your pencil sketch, your digital collage, and your botanicals to get a full picture and range of inspiration for your work
  • Use two contrasting weights in pens to add dimension to your work
