1. Introduction: have you witnessed a decline and likes followers and overall engagement on instagram, wondering what you might have done wrong this time around well might be a victim of Instagram's latest shadow van and not even know about it. These last few months, growing numbers of users, from bloggers to business accounts, have been affected by Instagram's shadow Ben. And so essentially, they've seen a decline, and followers likes and overall engagements uses air getting Shadow Ben by the innocent behaviors of using the same hashtag over and over again or using a list of instagram hashtag happen Bend being shot. A band hides your posts from new users and hence enters your chances of getting this covered by users. In short, being shadow van is harmful for any business who's looking to grow their business or their customer bases through instagram. So how can you tell if you've been shadow, then how can you prevent it from happening in the near future? And most importantly, how can you continue growing your business? The spite of instagram ever changing roles well, in this class, we're going to discuss what celebrity bloggers and businesses alike are doing to continue growing their business despite Instagram Shadow Band. We're also going to discuss Instagram's latest guidelines and rules so you can be familiar with them and not violate their rules. And most importantly, we're going to talk about sound strategies you can put in place. So you're not completely reliable to Instagram because Instagram let's face it throughout the years they're gonna continue changing their algorithms, and they're probably pushing for people to do more advertising with them. So it's very important that you understand the following so you can continue growing your business despite all of this. So who am I exactly? Well, my name is Anna Vega. I'm a fashion e commerce consultant, co founder of Commerce Academy and podcaster. I've been helping various e commerce fashion businesses get more cells to their websites through the power of instagram marketing and other marketing channels. So I encourage you to sign up to this clock, and I hope to see you guys inside 2. Have you been shadowbanned? : So let me ask you, have you witness an overall drop in engagement? Does it feel like your post aren't getting discovered like they used to? And you're noticing you're getting less likes and comments? Well, you might have been a victim of Instagram's latest shadow bands. So what is exactly a shadow ban? Well, a shadow Ben hides your instagram posts from users who do not follow you, which can be obviously detrimental to growing your account and getting more followers essentially, which ever hashtags you might be using to get your photos discovered, would now be hidden from users who don't follow you. Now, something to remember as well is that Instagram's latest algorithm mighty affecting your overall post as well? Instagram is really focusing on on Lee, showing users accounts that they engage with the most. Now no one besides Instagram knows exactly how old the algorithm is currently working. There are a lot of speculations out there that Instagram is trying to push brand sister advertising Mawr on their platform, and other speculations are that user behaviors might have changed and people earn spending as much time on the discovery top as they used to. There's no way to really know for sure what has been affecting the drop an engagement. But what is important to be aware of is that you really need to start building a strategy to continue your overall growth and being aware of the hashtag that I've been bent. So how can you tell if you've been affected? Well, I'm gonna provide you the link of a simple text which you can simply run. So what you need to do is go on the following euro put in your user name and the following website will check your post and will check whether or not the shadow ban husband applied to your account so you might get shadow Ben. If you're using some of the Ben hashtag, for instance, there are a list of Ben Hashtags which I encourage you to search for hashtag such as Beauty blogger or today I'm worrying or Kansas because apparently the community has reported that some of the content might not meet Instagram's community guidelines and so they've been does hashtag for now. So really is all over the spectrum. So for now, what I recommend you to do is to check your latest post make sure that it hasn't been shadow Ben by using this website and if I mean I'll tell you whether or not your account has been a victim of the shadow Ben. So let's press pause here. Go on the website and once you're back, let's discuss how you can up your engagement and have an INSTAGRAM marketing strategy in place, which will help you continue to drive traffic to your website. But first, let's review why Instagram is having a Ben. Well, the first reason is that Instagram wants to bend spend any behavior. It's true that some accounts have been abusing hashtag to get people to discover their brand or even leaving spending comments on people using certain hash dogs such as like for like another reason we already discussed is that Instagram is probably trying to start encouraging paid ads, which is where I'm going to kill the myth of free trophic. So essentially, I really do think that Instagram really wants to have individual start paying for ads in order for them to get discovered. So qualified leads aren't free at the end of the day, especially as Instagram continues to mature, it's gonna become increasingly more difficult to effectively target a qualified audience. Do you really need to start considering Instagram ads and really adding those as part of the overall mix of your marketing tool? Kids, because it's important for you to really start bringing serious traffic to your website and in order to win new customers. So I have a class on this very topic, which I encourage you to check out. It's my class on paid ABS. Finally, Instagram wants to ensure that their influence your community gets paid. Let's face it, your chances of growing your audience will double if you collaborate with influencers. Now I'll discuss in more detail as to how effectively you can collaborate with these influencer in the upcoming chapter. But overall, you really to remember that all these are speculation for marketers, as Instagram hasn't really shared any insights about their latest algorithm and shadow Ben . So personally, I'm more inclined to think that Instagram is simply getting more competitive and they are more likely wanting to encourage brands to advertise on their platform. So some food for thoughts for you guys. Now let's review how you can tell if you've been Shadow Ben and Hot to avoid it in the future. Checking on the website I should earlier is a start. But let's go through some of the behaviors you should be avoiding at all costs. So first you want to avoid following and unfollowed owing massively the following is going to get your account flagged. Now. You also don't want to be using Ben hashtag like we discussed and don't use the same hashtag repeatedly. Yes, Apparently, following will get your account band so you really need to make sure that you're diversifying your hashtag as much as you can. So they best describe your post now, don't use bots software that violate instagram terms of services such as Instagram ass was shut down just a few months back, for example. So it's a really important that all your likes and comments are don organically. So keep the following in mind as part of your instagram marketing strategy. 3. The safeway to use Instagram in 2017: so we this cost what will get you banned from Instagram? Now let's review how you can use instagram in 2017 and some of the features you should start really leveraging to up your engagement and create a closer bond with your audience. Let's face it, Instagrams algorithm is going to continue to change, So it's really important to keep a knowledge of the latest features that Instagram is using , so you can always be ahead of the curve and experiment with those different features. So let's go through some of the things you should be doing in order to continue updating your instagram marketing efforts. So the first thing is you need to make sure that you're getting close and personal with Instagram's community guidelines. So Instagram's community guidelines keep on changing, which is why it's important to keep reviewing their guidelines. Periodically, I've shared the euro. You should be checking to make sure you have the latest information and hands, so let's go through some of the key guidelines in a nutshell. So the first thing you need to keep into consideration is that you need to share Onley photos and videos that you've taken or have the right to share. There's a lot of brands out there who re posting content without even asking the user. And obviously the following is gonna get you been at some point, or at least the individual if they catch you well. Day my flag, your account. So make sure that if you're using somebody's picture that you ask for their permission, you need to post photos and videos that are appropriate for a diverse audience. That's pretty self explanatory, and you also need to make sure that you're fostering meaningful and genuine interactions. So don't try to be selling. Make sure that you're providing content that people find entertaining and they see a purpose to it. Now you need to make sure that you're following the law, obviously, and respect other members of the Instagram community. You need to also maintain a supportive environment by not glorifying self injury, and you need to also be thoughtful one posting Use worthy content. Now you also need to make sure that you're not using bots. We review the following the first chapter inst aggress was shut down, so make sure that you're not using self torso like comment and follow an unfollowed. Um, however, you can use obviously schedulers, so there's a lot of tools out there, such as later dot com, which allow you or plan Italy is another one, which allow you to schedule instagram posts in advance. These Softwares are instagram compliant. You can go ahead and use them, and obviously they will save you a lot of time as you're creating your editorial calendar and planning the content that you want to post on a monthly basis. So these are allowed any form of software, which is liking following and unfollowed owing users for you will get you bend so the formula is to really keep engaging manually. Personalized engagement is worth a 1,000,000 so obviously, if you're a bigger brand, the following is a little bit more time consuming. Obviously, you'll have a team to help you with the following, but it's important to generally engage with individuals like their photos and whatnot. But as a brunt, to be honest, you really should be considering and spending most of your time thinking about instagram advertising growing. You're following using that specific avenue versus spending your time liking and commenting on people's pictures. Obviously, the following helps But I think that if you look at the time and effort, you're better off spending your budget and INSTAGRAM ads now. Overall, you want to make sure that you're avoiding grow fax, so one of them is using the same hashtag repetitively. It's important that you don't use also additional hashtag. You can only post up to 30 hashtags on a post. So a trick that was used by many marketers is essentially have 30 hashtags on the posted in the comments section. At another set of 30 the following will get you bend, so that's a specific example of agro FAC. And like I mentioned, it's important as well to not follow and unfollowed. So avoid using growth hacks by all means. And really, look again, I know repeating myself, but into having a sound strategy will talk more about the following, but it might have to include instagram ads. So if you've been banned, some of the recommendations is to take a break from Instagram because apparently the bend doesn't last for a very long time, and usually it only effects couple post, and there's some theories out there that you should switch the personal account. Um I'm not 100% sure of the following works. I personally recommend if you're a brand to use business accounts, especially because the business account has so much, many more feature. And Instagram is really pushing for brands to start using business account. There is a lot of different incentives, and we'll go through them in the next chapters. A great way to continue getting discovered and have more engagement is to be creative and experiment with using instagram stories. Instagram stories came out with a bunch of different features, which include Hashtags, which allow your content to get this covered by other followers. And the following is a little less competitive than images right now. So I really encourage you to test the following and also links for business accounts. So meaning that now within your instagram stories, you can include a link which will drive directly to your websites. So these are just two of the features that Instagram recently came out with, which can definitely help you increase your overall engagements. And story actually also came out with a form of advertising which is currently testing which obviously consent the following up with Facebook by having video ads. You can have them show up in stories as well, so more on that later. But make sure that you're playing around with these different features at as it will help you continue growing and engaging with your audience and obviously make sure that you're following Instagram's community guidelines. 4. Increasing your engagement: So how can you increase your engagement? Despite Instagram's shadow? Ben? Well, let's face it. Most influencers up there have seen, and businesses actually as well have seen a tremendous drop in engagement and overall likes and their photo. And also they're following base is not growing as aggressively as it used to. While they're a couple tricks that I'm going to share with you that successful businesses and influencers are using, so the first thing it's pretty obvious it's to be consistent. Obviously, the more consistent you are with your content, the more likely it will get discovered. So you need to use on Instagram scheduler. Either plan early or later dot com are great tools that I used for my clients because it allows you to essentially make sure that you're posting so as far as how many times you should be posting. To be honest, things have changed quite considerably. A year ago, I used to tell my clients that posting daily was recommended. But these days, as long as you're posting within a consistent schedule so you can be posting anywhere between 3 to 5 times a week, it really depends on your audience and who your core audience is really so. It's why it's important to really look at your analytics reports to understand what is the best time to post by now. You should have plenty of data as to what are some of the post that had gone the most engagement. You should look at those posts and really dissect them to understand what made them more attractive than some of the other post. For instance, you need tohave an editorial calendar in place. It's pretty self explanatory. Why is it so important? Because you cannot continue to be posting content half hazardous Lee and not really thinking about the overall goal of that image that you're posting. Yes, obviously you want to have a beautiful photography. But Woods the overall purpose. We're going to talk a little bit more about the following, so obviously you need to tell a story. Storytelling matters, which is why the editor all counter is so important. You might want to have a theme for a specific month if it's summer coming around and let's say you're a clothing brand. Well, play up on the idea of going on vacation and perhaps buying yourself items that to go on your special vacation again. Storytelling matters because beyond just photography, it's important toe have captions that really grab the individuals attention you need to really put in time within your caption. It should be a many block post, if you will. And yes, I know a lot of brands feel frustrated because sometimes the comments feel a little stunned Me. But if you continue being consistent on having captions air really engaging your audience little by little you'll be attracting better customer base and individuals who will actually really interact with you. You need to also participate in the conversation. If people are replying back to your posts, important to reply back to them an individual basis, especially at the beginning, because it will make all the difference and make them feel special. Now the other thing is to really consider influencer. Marketing collaboration and collaborations in general are key to the success of your brand . Now I know influencer marketing can get a little costly. The main reason for the following is that brands get overzealous and try to reach out to individuals who have 10,000 or more followers. Now, a lot of brands have been experimenting with micro influencers, so it means anyone who has 5000 followers unless and they're seen great results. Micro influencers are easier to work with a lot of times, their audiences a lot more engaged than a bigger influencer, if you will. So if you're working on a shoestring budget with influence or marketing, I encourage you to go that route. And obviously you need to have a thorough process. In place of a class on influencer marketing, I urge you to check out if you need a little extra help here. A lot of very popular business account are using these methods. To example, that I love to give is carbon cocoa. So these are the carbon tooth wife turning to space. You might have seen a lot of the fluent influencers touting, so the following has been able to consistently grow their audience because of all the collaborations they've done. Another one that I love to share is Frank's body, So Friend Body recently came out with a glitter new shimmer glitter that it's coming out with, and their email list of individuals were waiting for the following to be released is as much as 50,000 subscribers is what I've heard. So essentially Franklin Body originally came out with a caffeine scrub. You might have seen different bloggers touting the following, and they've been really consistent working with all these different bloggers. They obviously hod budgets and invested a lot of their money in influence or marketing. But again, these air, to specific examples of brands, have been consistently working with influencers in order to continue growing their reach. And obviously as well. Getting feedback from these influencers and testimonials makes all the difference audiences . At the end of the day, they're seeing that others are testing out the products. It makes them more comfortable purchasing from you and also following your brand now instagram ads. I can't stress the following enough. They're a lot more effective than people think. A lot of reason people shy away from Instagram ads is because they feel that they're expensive and they're not seeing the types of the result they want. Well, yes, Instagram as and Facebook, as in general, are a science. It's really important to know exactly who you're targeting. If you're going to target a really broad demographic, you might not get as good results and your as my end up, costing you a lot of money. What is key is to start with really small budget. Somewhere around five euros or $5 a day should be fine, and then you can expect from there another great way to boost your engagement, which I encourage you to experiment with is to join Instagram pods. Well, there's a lot of different speculations happening out there as to whether or not there as efficient because in a way it's nonorganic, meaning that you are having individuals who are commenting and liking your post based on you posting it specifically to that group. But they're quite popular amongst bloggers now. My recommendation, if you're a brand, is to have other influencers within your Neech birth, participates in your pod and have TEM engaged with your brand and vice versa. There are other groups or using a tool such as telegram and having as many as 100 individuals in their specific instagram pods. So something to keep into consideration and playing with. I haven't heard of Instagram banning for the following, and like I said, a lot of bloggers out there are currently using instagram pods in order to continue getting as much engagement as possible and as many comments as possible. 5. Formula to Insta-Fame: So which formula should you use for Instagram fame? Well, let's go and review some of the things we already discussed. So, most importantly, you need to know your tribe, and I can't stress the following enough. You really need to understand who your customer is, whether likes and dislikes are. And most of the time, the following is the main reason businesses are not getting the types of result they want because they have a really broad idea of who their customer is, and they haven't really targeted who their potential customers are. So you can simply do a survey. If you already have a mailing, listen place to really understand the psychology, the buying psychology of your customer and therefore create content that's going to appeal to them more so. The following is really the foundation of your INSTAGRAM marketing efforts. You really need to make a note of the kinds of unique problems and interest your audience is sharing publicly and make sure that you integrate the following within your marketing messaging in all the different post and all the different captions that you're showing with . Um, Now, the second thing is, you need to cultivate our relationship with these individuals. So how can you do the following? Well, obviously, you really need to get to know your audience, but you need to ask them questions within your post. You need to comment when, um and follow them as well, actually, like comment on their posts. You also need to make sure that you are replying back to their comments. Vice versa. And within your stories, your instagram stories, it's important to have a specific relationship with them by making them part of the creative process. Perhaps so, if you're a bathing suit brand, for instance, and you're playing with different patterns, why don't you include them in that conversation and asked for their opinion? Users are audiences love to be engaged in love to have an opinion. And for instance, if you really appreciate the opinion of a specific followers, make sure share the following and give them a cameo in your stories, for instance, so the there just a few ideas you can use in order to really interact and cultivate relationships with your customer. So comments and make sure to reply to stories. So if you're following different individuals, you should really put the time and effort into replying to some of those stories that they might have shared and make them feel like they're part of your community. They're part of your tribe. Next, cells funnels are your best friends forever. So what do I mean by that? You need to make sure that you are capturing email addresses, and I can't stress the following enough within your by a link. It's important dot You're all you have in place is driving individuals to landing page, where they will provide you with an email address in order to get a freebie or some form of discount item etcetera. Why is it so important? And why do I stress it? Well, because it six people 8 to 9 interaction with a brand in order to start purchasing from you now with some brands, when it comes to perhaps, like drop shipping, like anything from like furnitures or whatnot. Yes, it's a little different, but if your lifestyle brand, even if your photographer I mean or freelancer of any kind, it's important to make sure that you continue growing your email list so individuals can continue knowing about what you're currently working on and you start cultivating the relationship with these individuals, so make sure you're capturing email addresses. Make sure that your bio specifically highlights what your mission statement is. Make sure that you have a bio that piques their curiosity for them to click on your link and then within your link. Your main goal is to make sure you're capturing email addresses. Do not drive them directly to an item that you're selling. The following is really off putting, so really think of it as dating. Let's say that I wasn't a bar and I still someone attracted that I like, and I would just go up to them and ask them to marry me. Well, chances are, they would think I'm completely crazy or completely drunk, right? Well, the same happens with marketing. It's important for you to cultivate the relationship first and have an interaction with these individuals before selling to them. A lot of times, business accounts are trying to sell to hard within their instagram, and it's really off putting, which is why they're not seeing the type of engagement and results really needs to be generating. And you really need to share the overall lifestyle or mission statement that you're trying to put out there for people toe really want to interactive you. It's important to find your voice now. The following goes back to what we discussed in the first light of this chapter, which is really understanding who your target audience is, the better understanding. But the following the easier will be for you to really define your voice. You need tohave engaging photography and obviously you need tohave captions. I really capture your audience as well. Now you also need to understand which hashtags or what the overall mission statement of your brand is. The following is a little bit more intricate. Really. The best advice I can give you is to put a survey in place so you really understand that's up of individuals are currently in your mailing list. If you're just starting out really looking, your competitors see what they're doing and see how your perhaps different from them. What is your unique value? Proposition really spent a decent amount of time figuring the following out. It will make all the difference because at the end of the day, you always want to make sure that you're standing out from your competition, and you have something fresh to share with users out there, you really need to create fun stories as well, Like fun instagram stories that relate back to your overall mission statement and find ways to get your audience involved by asking them questions, asking them to participate, etcetera. Finally, I can't stress this enough, but try to Gamma Phi the overall experience. What do I mean by that? Well, don't be afraid to create, perhaps contest Luke. Giveaways are really huge right now. Well, there's quite a bit of a controversy, and initially you would give away is, but in a second. But Luke giveaways are used right now by a lot of bloggers, but I'll come back to that in a second. It's really int interesting, but I've seen a lot of brands build anticipation around their products, and it's been extremely powerful from them. So to go back to the example from the other chapter, Franken Body did the following with a shimmer that is coming out in a few weeks, and essentially what they've done is that they share the following shimmer with some of different influencers, and they've encouraged her audience, their followers to sign up to specific Lining Page to have access to that specific products . So they really played with the overall anticipation of their customer and really gamma flying thing overload experience. You really need to come up with strategies to get your audience interested in your products , etcetera. And again, this all comes down to creating crafting specific campaigns and trying to be as creative as possible and testing those different campaigns every three months or so to see what works and what doesn't work. Now look, give away. So look. Giveaways are essentially bloggers who are participating with other bloggers and there buying a specific giveaways, which are all sharing the cost off. And then they're promoting it across all the different channels. So, ah, lot of time you'll see 20 different bloggers who are giving away the same thing, and they're all asking you to perhaps follow another blogger, and then you have to follow different bloggers in orderto have access to the give away, so this is a simple example of a little giveaway. Now there are other tactics that you can use to do giveaways. Giveaways are a great way, especially if it's something that's meaningful to your audience to get people engaged in a fun way and get them excited about your specific brand. And, most importantly, get yourself discovered now. Insolence. A marketing. We talked about the following already, but it's vital to help you build credibility. Why? Because individuals in general they feel more comfortable purchasing from a brun who has more credibility. Working with influencer will help you generate more trust amongst your customer, and they'll feel more comfortable buying from you. So now influencer marketing should be don on a monthly basis. Consistency at the end of the day is always key. You need to make sure that when you're drafting your overall marketing efforts, that you're being consistent and that you continue testing different ideas because a lot of business brands out there are testing out an idea once every six months, and then it's not really working out for them, and then they give up on never to do it again. Obviously, the first giveaway or the first influencer marketing campaign you do, especially if you're pretty green. It's gonna take some adjusting your going toe, have to have a learning curve if you will, so it's important to not give up and continue and not see it as money that you spent and didn't get much results from. You need to really look at it in a more sort of holistic way. Yes, perhaps you might have had a bad experience with an influence your work with the first time . But you've learned a lot through that experience, and I encourage you to just go back out there and continue of your efforts. And obviously it's important you need to track the results and see how you can figure out ways toe for individuals to engage. You can have better return on your investment next time, so really important as well to get user testimonials when you doing influencer marketing and include those within your website or even within your instagram account. Really, The goal here, when you're working with influencers is not only to grow your audience, but, most importantly, to help you build credibility. Overall, you need to make sure that you're cultivating a community of loyal fans. What do I mean by that? Well, you need to make sure that your catering to your community and not just speaking at then you need to speak with them, and you need to really think about the greater cause of your brand. What is it that you're trying to do besides just selling to them? Yes, I know it sounds like so much work, but at the end of the day, brands that are really successful, our brands that have this excitement and have, like, a larger than life mission statement those air lifestyle brand her really able to grab their customers attention because they're doing more than just selling at these individuals . And it all comes back to understanding your target demographic, really understanding their emotional needs and making sure that you're embedding the following within your marketing effort. Alright, guys, well, that's the end of the class. I hope you found this information useful. I just want you to remind you that it's very important to understand your overall demographic and play around with the latest instagram features. Instagram has a great blawg. You can check out their business blawg, in which they usually inform us about all the different features that are coming out. So as a business is important for you to have all the up to the information and, most importantly, makes sure that you're using caution method. Everything we reviewed in here is pretty cautious, except perhaps for the instagram pods. They're like I mentioned there is some controversy around them, but it doesn't hurt for you to try it. And perhaps this could be your opportunity to build a community around it. So don't just make it a commenting pod.
