About This Class

ABOUT THIS CLASS

Learn how you can design creative and engaging slides and templates for Google Classroom and all other areas of G Suite. In this lesson, you will learn how to work with the “master slide” option and create a fixed background but editable foreground making them ideal for Google Classroom lessons and all other parts of G Suite. This method of designing slides will save time and stop you from having to limit your creativity when making lessons for your Google Classroom. We will then move on to look at some tips and tricks behind why Google slides might be a great option for you in a range of industries and professions.

This lesson consists of 5 elements:

  • Creating the slides and a template which can then be used to save time in future tasks.
  • Viewing and editing the slides as student/recipient on a laptop.
  • Viewing and editing the slides as student/recipient on an iPad.
  • Reviewing changes submitted as teacher/creator.
  • Uses across other professions and industries.

In just 21 minutes, you will learn a whole new method for creating engaging slides which can then be shared out for others to edit and add answers or ideas to. This lesson focuses primarily on sharing these slides via Google Classroom but the method is one that could be used across a variety of professions.

1. Introduction: A town and are a keystone issue teacher and computing lead for school based in the UK may introduce classes is to help you less with the basics, a range of programs and apps to help you gain a more productive and effective workflow. The topic for today's lesson is Google Slides. Google Slides essentially the online version of Microsoft PowerPoint is being used more and more across a range of industries. This is primarily due to the fact that works really well collaboratively and it fits into Google Drive and all other aspects of the C-suite. In March last year, the UK is placed on the National lockdown in all schools. For suppose I moved to an online remote learning. Since then, I've been using Google Slides weekly for our online Google Classroom athletes with tips and tricks along the way, which I think can help everyone across professions. Not only teaching, the main focus for today's class is to work on creating slides where you can be charged and how much can be edited when they're shared with other people. Todays lesson will focus on five main areas we're going to see is first we're going to look at how we can design these creative slides and what you need to do C to manage Hamlet, edited when they're shared with others. And next, we'll move on to actually share an answer the children and seeing how it appears at the child's end on both the laptop and then an iPad. For our third session. After this, we're gonna come back to the teacher said of the designers side. And you can look at any fee, but it's been put answer the burning questions that have been answered. Then finally, intersexual fat. We're going to have a look at how these slides can be used in other professions. Past teaching, hope you'll enjoy. 2. Creating the slides: Okay, right, so this is how we're going to be able to make a slide that can't be edited once we're into Google Classroom, for example, by the children. Okay, so we're gonna make it so you can't edit the background and what's on there. But they can then add their work in and put their answers. Okay, so first, let's just call this one test template presentation. Okay, so what we're going to do is the important part here is we're going to mess with the master slide, okay, query work from the master side. So along the top here and you can see file edit view, we're going to come across the slide and you need to go to down at the bottom, Edit Master. Okay, so when shelter Edit Master, you'll get all of these we're going to do. It's going to delete each of those. So you've only got one left face, it only deals. And on here, it's going to clear the way. And this one runs a tweet that as well in the corners, leakers or hashtag. So now we've got a blank slide. Okay, so to answer the first one I'm, I do change my background first unless I have the first one. Might call it a very mind and actually color blind, just a heads-up for anyone. So if I put some question or color choices in that, I'll be y. You can obviously choose your own callers. Let's go for blue. Ok, choose liberally there next, what I need to do. So that's our border on it. So I'm going to go to my shapes, appear at the top, choose that, and then I want a rectangle. Well, I'm going to do with this. Drag it all the way across those just thin lines around the edge. Like so. And now we've got a nice border. Suppose, try and make sure it's aligned centrally, right? So then we've got this and I'm going to turn this into fill it and fill it just white. Okay. So we've got our background color, blue, then this white rectangle over the top. Okay? This is where they're going to be able to add text when it's wrong. Then what I like to do is add another node, another rectangle. Let's put this across type like so k and then alpha or that one block. So this might be, so for example, if I ask you in this slice that kids, this might be where their first question or b. So one here on top of that and we're going to add a text box. Just put inherit this question. What problem here is obviously, we can't see the text. Today I'm going to highlight it and ready to change the text color to white. And all center align it along the top and will kill the ball underlying. I'm gonna turn this off just personal preference of mine and does this thought of it and said I want to first off, try it so that we can make this bigger space. That's called city 36, omega. Try 60. Love it too big. Surprise. Okay? And then you can obviously selfish you want so you can change font. You can choose which one you went on impact. You might want Ariel. You're good, old-fashioned, comic sense, but we'll stick with C. Okay, so then I've got a question one. So n Here, I've got question one. You could write in whatever your question is. It might be a math squashes, it might what is two plus two? Okay, that's where your question can go at the top. And then what we're going to next is a place for them to write it. So they're going to need someone's rather answering the corpse of the top here for our text box. Choose this and we're going to draw a textbox actually or do not believe that textbooks, however, had other shapes so they can see where they're going to react. And so this time, I just want my shape here when I square. So this is going to be the outline for where they can write their answer. Okay? So we've got For borderline nice thick borders and either right now or we'll change the fill. I should I can keep on that, but for now, you could if you wanted to, you can change it to y to go. I think it was bit cleaner. But for sure we can have felt well, we'll keep it on line for now. Then on this archway marks do say for example, if you were doing the other Vikings semiclassical, we've been laying on the rankings recently. I might want to do insert image and I can be searched the web here. I could search and Viking helmet. Okay, and then use this image here. And instead. So I can do, I can put that one on to the ICC, but okay, so I've got my image, but a border and then I've got some way for them to write their answer. Okay? At the moment, there would not be able to write their answer into this space. Okay? Because this part can't be edited. So what we will do next is we would come out of it. So once you allow selected here, and it goes back onto your main slide, and on here you'll see we can't click anything. Okay, but nothing can be clicked. Some hair when it's bringing up top textbox alway odor. Nothing can we clicked on here. But so this is all black for the kids. So we need a way for them to insert text into this box. So what we're going to do is I'm just going to add a text box over that's up. Space and then type your answer here. Please delete. And then what they can do is they can add their text into this box. So when you send this workout and Google Classroom or wherever you are going to be using these vacant that S into that box. Ok. And turn off also fits again and drag it down. Okay, so if all that's supposed to wrap their uncertain and they can't change anything else. I'll see important fountain here. There are only partly can change is the box. Then what you can do once you've made one of these templates, just let me go back in and fix this a little bit further over here. Oh, still not quite. Where. Once we've fixed this, what we're going to do is if you want it now for question two, or you need to do is right-click and you can do duplicate layout. And what your mounted on this to differentiate between your questions. You asked, change background color. So if I change the background and I might go to read, don't. You can see it's changed on that like treasures to question to exert different English, I can delete that one. And this one hour to insert image search. Well, there's some happy about their banking. Long boat. Like this picture. Okay, this can obviously then be repeated across. For as many questions as you need to go through, see your question to change the background. And then you want to do electrons here, duplicate layout again, this time, and that's changed back ground. So let us go for jello, done machines the bridge and change your picture again. So then what would actually, and we'll do arbitrary to note so I can show you what to do next. Then what residues we need them in our actual slide. Okay, so you'll notice up here, we've just got this one. So what we're going to do next is I need to add a new slide. And then as I've selected my slide number two, and this side up here, it's a rack let if you were to apply layout, you will see the ones that you've made have appeared here is you've got a question to complete that one N. And then now we need to go new slide again. And this time while layout. And Question three, where you do need to remember to do is add your textboxes. So just like how about in textbooks on this one, I'm going to copy from their copier question too, on here. Paste and it goes straight. Single Sikhs have not changed the actual box, seven paste. And then you have a type your answer here, please delete. And then when the children go out there and we Google Classroom or however you're sending these out, they'll be able to put that text into here and put their answering that. And then they can delete, put it can't delete anything else on the slide. So for example, you might answer, instead of having a picture, you might have more information to help with the question. In my view, for comprehensions, You can choose, it converts a different license for using this difficult border as well, helps the children differentiate between each question as well. Ok, next one we want to see in it from the child's perspective. 3. Child/recipient’s perspective on laptop: Okay. So this is how it would appear for the child. Okay. So when the work's being sent out to Google classroom, this is how all look there. And so going to our Google Classroom from where I work, and I'm going to scroll down. So I've until Wednesday prepare to history because you can see here got test history. Ok, so this is the one we'll have it, try it now. It's test history and I can open the Google Slides. Opens up. And there is our presentation, Jason from four. Okay, so now I'm gonna 3 thousand student. They'll have the question here and then the text. And you can see as I click in there, I can delete that texts, can change it, I can do what I want with it. But they're not here. I can't change any of this. Okay. They can add things in. But they can't actually change what you've got here. So if this is the information you need stays the same. You can do that then in this box and support. I wish you had remembered to ask this question. Okay. And then what they can do that can move down all the way through it. Think that's question two, questions three. And then once they are finished, they can come up this FAR back onto the assignment and the computer assignment. Just see their work is all pair in that corner. We can just double-check. You'll see you're not closed it. It's saved their worker case to the press. Save. Their work will be there saved. We close this tab. Go ahead and say it. How many suppressed and in and then what they'll do. A press Handan, and then I'll show you what it would look like as the teacher going to market. 4. Child/recipient’s perspective on iPad: Okay, so nowadays most of the children, or at least in my class, are actually working on an iPad. So I thought it would be useful to show you how it looked from our perspective if they're on an iPad as well as on a laptop. So again, this arguable classroom, and we've assigned it to less than six History on Wednesday. And we've got our test history here. So you've got to test history. Now this is a problem that we had at the beginning we start using Google Classroom is some of the children thought there was no work there for. If you come to the bottom where it says your work and press that arrow and it'll come back up. Down. At the bottom is arrow, press there and it opens up and you can see the work here, the Google Slides test3 student test template presentation. So they can do, they can open that. And then they've got two options. There. You can see here I've deleted there, type your answer part. But they've got two options. They can either draw it on it using the pen in the corner, which is what a lot of them ended do in however, we really wanted to use Google Slides properly again, start typing into it so he can do it in this top right corner. There is the square root or Arab window there. Press that and it should open as long as they are google slides installed on their iPad. Yeah, this is really important. The halftime Google Slides installed on their iPad. When they press that in the top right corner, it will open integral slides. So then what they're able to do is that it can just like we've done laptop before. They can double-tap and they can add their text. Okay. So I really wish you had asked a question. Ok. On there. And then once they're finished again, this was another problem that we encountered by they thought the work would be lost. What they need to do once you've finished that, they can go back to here. Therefore, go and open your classroom again. Okay, for open about your classroom, you can see the work isn't that amount which represses x and the top left corner. And open it again before we submit it. And you'll see the writing has appeared. So it does just save it for them. They don't have to press a breath and they just need to add it in close girl slides and then come back and so classroom. So once a bill out, you can press the X again and you're it's handed. And I'm actually press handed again. And it will send the work battle teacher. Ok. I hope that helps. 5. Viewing and marking the work: Okay, welcome back. So this is how it looked from a teacher's point of view, okay, so you can see the classrooms thoughts very similar to the US. The student sees that list of lessons and we're, we're less than six History on Wednesday. I've got test history systolic put out 100 m. So for the hostess copy. So as you're going to hear a quicker if you test three student and then their work that they've handed in can be found here. So just click on to that one. And then you can see we've got their work but changes. Okay, so we've got our presentation that we made at the beginning of the video with their changes. I wish you'd remember to ask questions. Okay. So that if they made any changes to these, we can check that. Then once you've gone through all the slides and you might say, you'll be able to give your usual, Just like the recipe or classroom, give you a mock back and change it from a 100. I just left it as what it was and put some private comments and feedback. Then once you've done all that, you press return, then they'll get their mark and that private comments at the other end. 6. Uses across professions.: Although today's video has focused mainly on the use of Google slides in an education setting and included some reasons as to why Google slides might be of use to you to help with your workflow regardless of which industry or profession you are in. A great selection of templates. Although this lesson has focused primarily on use within the Google Classroom, Google slides has a bank of templates available to cover a range of uses from personal photo albums to trend analysis charts for business. Compatible across all devices. Google Slides is also compatible across all devices and resizes your presentation accordingly. It whether you're working on a PC, Mac, tablet, or smartphone in this way, you have your presentations available at all times regardless of what devices you are working on. Revision history. The revision history aspect is fantastic. And by far one of my favorite features, this is where Google Slides stores all past edits so that no work is ever lost. This is particularly useful when lots of people working on one Google slide, There's an increased chance to work being changed or removed when it was nine tended to be converting power points. It is also worth knowing that if you have already created a Powerpoints that would like to share via Google Slides, you're able to easily convert PowerPoints over to the Google Slides format. However, beer where the some aspects may change slightly. And if your PowerPoint includes audio, there must be an MP3 format. To work with the Google Slides. Collaboration. You can work on a single presentation with other colleagues or external contacts at the same time as the Creator, you decide the level of permission others have. What do you want them to be able to edit the whole piece, just view it, or add comments or feedback and ideas. Thanks for taking part in today's lesson. And I really hope it is being abused. If you've got any questions or any video ideas that you think would be abused to your workflow and you'd like my help them please leave a comment below and we'll get back to you soon as possible. Hope you've all enjoyed the video and I'll see you all again soon. Bye.
