About This Class

Have you ever noticed that some smiles look better than the other?

Some people when smiling look much more credible than the others.

That is because of their smile, some people are faking a smile and our subconscious mind know that. In this course, I would like to bring light on this issue in your conscious mind as well. I will tell you how to spot differences between smiles, what is typical for genuine aka Duchenne smile and what for a fake/ingenuine/social smile and why this smile is not always bad to use.

At the end of the course, you will be able to tell what are uses of smiles in our social interaction, why a social smile is not always bad, how we lie by this smiles and why we lie the most with our smiles and the actual anatomical difference between these two types of smile.

Can you imagine how powerful it is when you know if someone's smile is genuine or not? You will know if someone likes you or not. You will know when someone is being dishonest or on the other hand, is broken and willing to fight. It will increase your emotional intelligence and empathy and when you will practise it, it will become natural for you and easy to read and you will never get rid of it.

You can use this knowledge in business negotiations, job interview, public interviews, family conversations, parent-kid conversations, basically everywhere you speak to some living human creature.

I hope, you're gonna like!

See you there!

Teacher

Hi and welcome. I am Martin Semerad and I am a communication coach specialising on nonverbal communication or otherwise body language. My story starts when I was about 14 years old when I, by accident, found out there something more behind a spoken communication, that there is a nonverbal part which is insanely influential.

As I was pretty young I made my parents buy a book on the subject, the book was written by James Borg and it was my first intended touch with body language since then I have been deepening this knowledge and skills, for a couple of years I have been only studying and absorbing information, after that, I started the journey of transforming my life with this skill.

I started to look at people and find out how they f... See full profile

1. Inroduction: Yes, it's Martin over here. Your by language, coach. I just want to introduce myself to you and tell you a bit more about this course I prepare for you. So I, Martin Semoran. I live in Czech Republic and I've been interested in byline which four like 67 years. It's been a long time. And with in the last year I decided to past my knowledge to other parts to other people. So I hope you're gonna like that and support me in my jury and about discourse. This course is called How to spot a fake smile. In this course, I would like to guide you through jury from to smile, to smile a lot, because smile is a huge part of my life. And I've achieved quite a lot of things. Just by smile, for example, I got my wife by that smile. I finished my school just by a smile. I survived when I first came to London. Probably just buy smile. So I'm pretty confident with using smile, and I want I want to tell you how to use a smile when it is good to use that smile and what kind of smile you should use. I also wanna mention that sometimes a fake smile, not that generate smile is not a bad thing to use. We actually need that in our social is so I wanted to explain you that in this course I don't speak about the measurable smiles And I will say I will tell you the messages off those smile. Why people use that and what does that mean? So if you are interested in that, then definitely check that yourself. I will also tell you a bit about lying about deceiving without faces because we are great liars. We have to lie since we are very young. So I want to introduce you the basic jackings, how to lie with our face on and of course, how to spot alive. I'm not tell you how to lie and just telling you how to spot a lie and wants to do with that. And in the last section, I will off course tell you how, actually that genuine and affects my looks. Mouth face. How can you decide if that smile is a fake or genuine? And you will known that when you finish the scores And of course, and the anti will get a certification of completion when you pass the last dust. So if you think it's interesting, I will be very happy if you sign up for that. Of course it will. It's gonna mean a lot to me. So this is it for me. And I hope I will see you on the next side. Bye, guys. 2. Genuine smile: Hey, guys, it's Martin over here. Your body language expert. I'm very happy that you came here to find out something more about the smile in this section off video, I would like to speak about the genuine Dutch and smile, Let me say for an explanation on How does it looks on our face on the last section off this course where I'm gonna describe how does generate smile actually looks on our face and how the US a fake smile looks on our face. I want no Put it in the sand with Dell so you could see easy more easier distinguishing the differences from those smiles. So now I just want to speak about the message of that smile. I just want to speak about how to actually create that happy smile pan. What's physical changes can be done by that smile. If you want to produce a genuine smile on your face on on, face off some of the person you have to create unhappy emotion. If you don't have that happy emotion, you can have, ah, genuine smile. So now I want a list a couple roots, how to get happiness, how to reach that state off feeling happy at that moment, so you can smiled. General, I don't tell you something you don't know. I'm just going toe name and describe roots How you are usually getting happened, that the 1st 1 is an excitement, happiness and we all know this kind of feeling, its opposite feeling off border. When something new arouses your interest, you start to feel excitement. It can be something more extreme and last extreme. For example, when you are jumping out for out of the plan with that back on your back or you are meeting a new exciting person someone new you don't know and you have to get to know that person when you get something new in your life you're excited about and that excitement creates happiness. So when you are excited, you are happy, and when you are happy, you are smiling. Generally, the 2nd 1 is a really you happiness. It's pretty easily describable just with one sentence and this one, the pain stops. You feel happy ago. You are much more willing to smile. Generally, of course, the 3rd 1 is a self concept happiness. This happened and stakes place when you find out something good about yourself about your person. Let me give you an example when you find out that someone sat that he likes to hang out with you, that he actually enjoys your company and it can be a neighbor living across the whole or or a new girl you met at the bar. When you find out that someone likes you, someone appreciates you. It starts to makes you feel bad about yourself. And when you are feeling better about yourself, it creates that genuine smile again. They're off course, or much more routes, how to get happiness, and you can name at least five more of them. I just wanted to give you an example What I've man. And there is also something magical about a smile from a physical perspective in when you are smiling, when you create a smile on your face, your brain reacts to that and starts to feeling you happen. And when brain knows that you are smiling, it starts to release document all over your body, and when you are full of the document, your immune system is battered, is stronger. So it means that when you are smiling, your body is healthier. So when our grandmothers used to say that the smile pronounced your life, they were probably right, because off the dope moment in our bodies, they didn't know. How is that possible? We know that now, and it's true, and a lot of thing I want to speak about in this section of the course is that that the doctor who was that guy that got a smile named after him So he wants the French never largest, and he and one other guy were considered as a father's off a French neurology at all. He's families by his work, published in 18 62 with the name The Mechanism Off a human fizzy, a nominee. In this work, he described his interest about face or expressions, Baban language and that, nah, religion. And in the work, he sad that our face is a gate away to our souls. And he were right, because on what off presence, scientists and even some older glamour people agree on that fact that when you are looking at someone's face you see into his soul, when you are looking into someone's eyes, you know, what is that person like even Shakespeare used to say that. So it has to be something on that. And there is one interesting thing about that Dutch in. And it's Dad he took had chopped from guillotine when he was doing his research and eggs. Mind them, he tried to find out which muscle touched where and how does it actually looks but need the skin? So it's kind of disgusting thing, but he did it for us, and he was the first person who distinguished fake smile from real smile. He did several experiments on how to recognize that, and he waas press successful without recognizing. And now, in these days, we are using his nose to distinguish that, too. So this is it on this section, Of course, In the next section, we're going to speak about social smile. I'm gonna give you some some opportunities when it's not that bad. To use that social smile, I'm gonna explain you. Why is that possible that the social smile is spray useful for us? So I will see you in the next section, and we are going to speak about social smile, have a nice day. But 3. Social smile: guys smarting over here. Your bottom line. Which goat? Yesterday We have been speaking involved in January in and doctrine smile, relisted couple, couple rules how to get happiness. And now I want to speak about a social smile and the use of a social smile. The first thing I would like to point out is that social or a fake smile, as it might be also called, is not actually that bad for us to use it. Let me give you an example. Nobody expects from you that you are actually going to be happy all day long. 24 7 Nobody expects that. But everybody socially expects for you to be an easy going all right person, someone who is no making problems on who is easy to go along with. And that expression you show by social or a fake smile. Yeah, and now I'm going to list a couple couple uses for Social smile couple couple occasions when it's all right to use it to prove you that it's actually no dead. Back to yours effect. Smile. So the 1st 1 is a compliant smile on its shells, for example, I'm gonna describe it on an example, You go to the doctor, you go to see your doctor on. He orders you to swallow. Obey the pale or disgusting. I don't know something like liquid. And now you give the doctor a smile and nobody expects. He does not expect that you are happy about that, that you are happy, that you have to swallow that disgusting pill or liquid. But you smile as an expression that you are going to do that, that you are not going to step that doctor with the scissors he has on his desk. And that is a first use off social smile that is good to use. And that compliant smile will off course full, some kind off angry, disgusted is expert expression. I'm not saying that this is the only expression you're going to make. When the doctor orders you to do that, you off course are going to feel disgusting. You're going to feel all those negative feelings, but entity end just in front of just before you swallow that you give the doctor that smile . So the 2nd 1 is a coordination smile, and it's the X place when two people are talking. I mean, like to smoothly show on agreements understanding to show that you are about to perform or to acknowledge, acknowledged the good performance off the other person. The last social smile I'm going to list today is a listener smile and you can recognize by the name that it's just portal listeners And the listeners are smiling when they agree with the person. What what what the speaker size when they understand what the person says when we are listening, We are smiling when we don't need to repeat anything when we understand everything. And there is a one interesting thing that when Japanese people are talking to you and they smile, for example or even know that Yes, yes, yes. So they are nodding and smiling that they here, you know that they understand you. So if you ask them, do you hear me? They'll say, Yeah, yeah, Do you understand me? Yeah, And do you agree with me? No. So it might be a little bit confusing because their body language shows that they agree with a smile on nothing. But they are actually and nodding and smiling to the fact that they are just They just here you not understand? No, not not agree with you. So be aware of that and keep it count. Smile issues er usually on very often used and lying with the face because smile is the easiest expression for our face to perform. And I will speak about that in the next widow. But I just want to mansion one point from that on it is qualifying because every single expression you make and you add a smile behind that you show you down that you are in charge of that expression. For example, when you show an angry expression fooled by smile, you said that you actually are angry that you are not repressing that. But you are angry and you control the that you are not going to kill the person. Or I don't know what you are going to sudden sad expression on bond qualified that with a smile. And now you said that you actually are sad, but you can manage that for the moment. And that is ah, use off a social smile, which is quite good for us again. Nobody thinks that you are actually feeling happiness will be angry being signed, being disgusted. But you just say that you are in charge off that motion off that expression on it looks something like that. It might be those changes off a micro expressions on your face, but I'm gonna talk about that deceiving with face in the next video. So I hope you're looking forward, and there is one more use for a social smile that is very, very good for us as a humans, because when you smile even a fake, But when you perform a fake smile, your brain doesn't see and doesn't know that it is a fake smile because our brain reacts to contraction in our facial muscles. So when the zygomatic my are contract, our brain knows that it's doing when you are feeling happiness, Martin. So you are probably happy it's in my brain, and so the brand start release of document into my blood system and that document. The more document you have, the more happy you feel. So when you start using a social smile or a fake smile so your bread you're going to fool your brain and the brain start to release the document, and with the document, you are actually about to feel happiness so it might start with a social smile and end up with a genuine smile, as a Freud would side and that you can repress your talks. It's very good to use that tacking to full your brain by social smile when you want to change your emotions when you just want to sewage them. But don't use it as a repression tactic for for yourself. It would just harm you on. But it wasn't be beneficial for you, so keep in mind that, please. So I unfortunately have toe demand that we are down for today. You've learned that the social or fake smile is actually not that bad, that it might be beneficial for us for our document level on for our social life. So I hope you've changed a little bit an opinion on social or a fake smile that this it's actually not something like very dark tactical help to influence people. And tomorrow we are going to speak about glance a smile. I'm gonna tell you, how does a measure of the smile looks like? And what does it actually say? Onda? How does a flare to smile look like? Then I'm going to speak about position or smile and deceiving. How do we You smile to deceive people And why we use smile in deceiving I hope you're looking forward to tomorrow on Have a nice day. Bye. 4. Blends of smile: a guy said, smarting. Over here, I'm happy that you are here on today. I want to speak about blends off smiles. I want to call this this one out on the next widow plans of Among Shins, I want to list a couple couple types of smile that I want to speak about. Position off, smile and position off face and deceiving in lying. And the last point I want to discuss today IHS content I want. Imagine why contempt might be related to the smile. So I hope you're ready. I hope you're looking forward to that on Let's do that. So the first mile I'm like toe list Day is a measurable smile, and it looks something like that. This smile is not time to consul something. So if you will see that face on some person, don't think that that person is trying to misdirect yourself how that that person is trying to hide something away from you, that he's not honest with you because this smile means that the person is actually in a huge pain, that that person suffers and he's showing that at that moment he's willing to fight that he's going to fight his unhappy plight and that smile quite often appear on the faces off people who suffer from depression when they are talking about their unhappy applied. They put on their face this type of smile to show that they are depressed, that they are in pain but that are willing to fight that at least at that moment, they are talking about that. So here it goes, the second type of smile. Second, Blondeau smile, and that is called Dampened Smile, as you cannot this from the name off. That smile is that you are working with the intensity, all that smile, and you can't express as much happiness as you would like to. You need to dumping that amount off happiness you would like to express this smile is no spastic Bye bye Blanding with another expression with another emotions on. The specific thing about this smile is that it's it is honey percent genuine smile. So it's deduction. Smile on that you are dampening. You are lowering intensity off that smile. And let me explain that on an example you are walking on the street with your front on that Friends pull down. I don't know why but he pulled out in the first moment. Before you start laughing really hard, you are trying to dump on your smile because that when you find out that Francis all right , then you can start often. But before you find that out, you are. You want to smile. But you don't know if you saw right? So you are trying to dampen your smile, not to seem to be to be gleeful. So that is a great example. And you are jumping in your smile just for the amount of time before. Then you find out that the friends all right, so you can start last, and that is a dampen smile. And now there is a We'll ask Blondel, smile. I want to mention today, and I believe that this Lionel smile or type of smile, whether we were call it it doesn't need any Frederick any further explanation. And that is a flare to smile and again that this smile is not specific with Blanding with another expressions this smile. It's past fig that you have to add a had movements to that smile and it looks something like that on the the specific had movement is that you are looking away from the person I'm looking away from. Girl. I like I'm smiling that I drew my hut than I turned my guys to the girl I like when she noticed me. I work my guess again, just as a place in a playful way. And I believe this smile doesn't require any further explanation because yeah, we all do that when we like someone and we want to be just playful. And there is a one last quite something similar, like a smile. But it's the content expression, and it looks something like that. As you can see, it's quite similar, like a smile. It's just 1/2 smile. It's the Onley, a symmetrical, genuine expression on our face. When you see that, you know that that person is totally not smiling at you, although you can misjudged at for smile because what? A lot of people show that expression and think that it's like and 1/2 the expression. But actually you are saying that that person is down, that you are much better than that person when you show when when you make that expression , because content is why the Dad Lee expression that'll emotion, So don't misjudged that expression. It's not a smile, however. It quite looks like smile. It's much closer to the disgust. And this is It's from the section blends of smile. You know how to spot the measurable smile, How to describe a dampen smile or, you know, how does clear to smile looks like? And you also know that there is a difference within 1/2. Smile on DFI. Feeling good? Actually, I hope you're looking forward to next. Really? Over. I'm gonna speak about position off, smile and position off face and deceiving. And I will tell you more in the next video. I hope you're looking forward to that on. Thank you very much for being here. Have a nice day. Bye. 5. Decieving with smile: and now it's time to speak about position off, smile and position off face and deceiving in line by our face. I want to mention couple managing techniques, which we used by our face. When we want a lie or deceive someone, you probably know all of them. So I'm just gonna name it on and tell you when you are using it. I'm just describing what's obvious. What's I don't want to say nature for us. All of us used that on a daily basis, so I hope you're ready and let's do that. So the first managing technique I want to discuss today is a qualifying. I have already mentioned that, like technique in a social smile video. But today I want to describe it a little bit more. Qualifying is when you, at some expression, some emotion on the top off, not expression, and there is not written that you have to qualify with smile. You can WiFi with whatever emotion or expression you want. So it means that you showed an angry face and you qualify that with the sad face. You show unhappy face and qualify that with a disgusted face, you show a disgust disgusted face and you qualify that with angle face and it means that you are feeling the first motion. But on the top off that you feel second the qualified motion. So when we are speaking about anger, happiness, for example, you admit that you are angry with the person or with some situation or something. You are angry with something and you want to find that with smile and it means that you are angry. But you are also going to go through that without any harms that you're gonna fight that the second managing taking I will be speaking about them is a modulating. And I've been speaking a bit about that in a downtown smile. So the principle is quite obvious. Now you are working with the intensity off the fountain motion on the felt emotion that you are expressing your face. So it means that you have to either lower intensity off expression on your face or raised the intensity off expression on your face. You decide why you want to do that, why you have to do that. But this is another Faysal managing technique. We are using that when we don't want to be as genuine as we probably should be without face . And 1/3 fasil managing technique is a force of fine. This is probably the most complex on the most difficult. Based on managing. Taking on it has three sub points. So the 1st 1 is that you have to show some expression on your face when you are examined, not feeling anything, and that is quite striking because you have to know, how does that expression feels on your face? So, I mean when you are not feeling anything, but the situation requires you to express something you have to no. How does that expression off motion looks on your face? The second sub point all force if I ng, is when you are feeling some emotion, but you can't express anything. You have to hide that emotion from the other person, so you have to lower intensity to zero. So it's little bit similar, like money modulating because you have to totally diminish Dad expression on your face. And that is almost impossible on of the best liars or cycle pots can do that because we are not making our face or expression on. Purples are facial muscles are connected together with the brain. The brand, which forces are face toe act the way it acts. So it's our everything's on on a subconscious level. So when we want to manage that, we have to be very, very good or we can't feel any emotions at all. And the last falsifying technique is that when it's actually called masking, So you feeling some emotion and you have to beat that with another emotion, like you are feeling happiness, but you can't express happiness, so you will express sadness or anger or something like that. So you have to change a face of expression you have from your face with another peso expression in your face. And that's probably the easiest sub taking from falsified masking. And it's most mostly used up because it's quite easier for us just to change appearance on our face them to show nothing. When we are actually feeling anything or show anything going. You're actually not feeling anything, and the reason why I have put this section and of course, how to put how to spot a fake smile, is that the smile is a usually mostly used deceiving tool because and this is a Darrow install, because the smile is on strictly anatomical level, totally different from other negative emotions. Because the muscular movements required for smile are Toto, a different different from muscular movements which creates a negative emotions like anger , sadness, thes gassed. So I hope you have enjoyed the riddle about position off smile and facts and deceiving. Now you know that there are a couple set a couple Faithfull managing techniques which have some sub points. And now you know how to describe deceiving with face. I hope you have enjoyed out with them and see you tomorrow with the appearance on face Tomorrow I'm going to describe you. How does that actually look on our face is how to actually spot the fake smile and how to spot a real smile. I'm also going to show you some real life pictures and pictures even know myself. So I'll see you tomorrow. Have a nice day. Bye. 6. Appearence of smiles on our face: Hey, guys, smarting over here, I'm very happy that you are here today with our last section off. How to spot a fake smile course. Today I want to speak about appearance off both fake and genuine. Smile on our face. I won't tell you. How can you recognize if that smile is actually fake? Or if it's a genuine that Dutch and smile have been speaking about in a for a section off the scores. So I hope you looking forward to that on Let's do that. And now I'm going to speak about clear smile, expression, clear happiness, expression and kill your just smile. I'm not going to speak about some Bland's I have mentioned in the last section, so get ready for clean, genuine smile and then clean fake smile course. So let's speak about the genuine smile. How does that smile actually looks on our face? I'm gonna protect your picture off myself when I am generally smiling, I'm gonna show you an open mouth and close mouth smile, expression, and I'm gonna describe that on I can't even do that on both the both of them. So let's do that here. You can see my picture on the mouth movement. It's pretty easy to notice. You can see wherever you want, whenever you want that my mouth are smiling that my corners are pulled upward and stretched back. But there is a key muscle movement, which is y tal for genuine smile. It's movement around eyes muscle called orbit chorus equally needs to be contracted when we are talking about genuine smile. When there is no movement around eyes, there is no genuine smile. So on there is couple techniques. How do decide if that smile is genuine? There are a couple physical aspect you can watch to decide if that's miles generate. So here is the 1st 1 to the cross feed on. This is how does it look like here You can see the cross feed the wrinkles just next to my eyes. When you spot this wrinkles, you can be quite sure that this smile is generating, and there is a second physical aspect off general smile, which can help you to decide if that's miles actual real. As the lots of part of browse. This part of brows is low, worked a little bit. This is just a teeny tiny movement So you have to pay close attention to that part off browse. And when you notice that that lots of part of brows is actually lower, then you know you can be sure that that smile is real. So here, with my face on what to do A lot of part off brows. So you know, how does that look like this? It looks something like that. As you can see, this movement creates the cross feet, the wrinkles next to my eye and even pulls down the latter part of brows. So when you are not watching for the cross feet, you can watch him for lowering of the latter part of brows. And this this movement is done by or big wars locally pars, orbital us. This movement is vital for genuine smile. And even the Dutch and the guy I've told you in the first section described that that you can distinguish fake from real smile by movement off this muscle because he said that this muscle can be contracted but our will Yeah, this is not right in these days when you can actually try and that we need you know how to contract that muscle you can fake that movement, but you have to willingly put effort into training. How does that muscle move? And that's the reason why I can show you that movement. And now here it comes. Fake smile. I'm gonna describe the hell does that look like? I'm gonna tell you what to pay attention to when you are deciding if that smile is fake or genuine on the only thing that will follow is the presentation where you are going to test your abilities to spot a fake smile on a real smile. Fake smile is produced just by one muscle just by this mouth. Muscles idiomatic. Meyer. This muscle creates movement like that, this as movement off zygomatic mile. And that is a fake smile. And there is just one thing that you should be aware off that when there is a strong action off zygomatic Mirer, the wrinkles under the eye are created so you can watch this part off beneath I so you can see them. Straight nose rating goes. You see, wrinkles are believed the eyes, but they are not here. So when they are here, it means that that smile is frank, that the skin is vouched just by this muscle, not by our big quarries or quit. So when the wrinkles are under I and know next to the I you know that that's miles fake. You have to pay attention to how eyes are square inched when they are not. It's a fake smile. When juster skin under the eye is wrinkled, you can be sure down that smile is a fake. So in easy terms, fake smile is produced just by mouth Genuine smile is produced by eyes and mouth And now you know how to distinguish that. And now I'm gonna show you a couple pictures so you can decide that. And at the end of those pictures, a T end of the presentation, you're gonna see your results off that small test. 7. Bye-bye video: So we have to say goodbye to each other for discourse. We are at the end of that. We've gone through all specs I wanted to tell you about. So we went through the message off. Smile.
