About This Class

Irish soda bread is a "quick" bread traditionally made with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) which is used as a leavening agent instead of the traditional yeast. The ingredients of a traditional Irish soda bread recipe are flour, baking soda, salt, sugar, and buttermilk.  An advantage of quick breads is their ability to be prepared quickly and reliably, without requiring the time-consuming skilled labour and temperature control needed for traditional yeast breads.

Once you've made this delicious Irish soda bread, you'll want to make more of it on a regular basis

Butter milk can sometimes be hard to find, but we will tell you how to make your own with items you probably already have in your refrigerator.

What a fun class! I love making homemade bread, but don't always have time to make yeast bread. I'm looking forward to trying this recipe. I also enjoyed the banter between the two teachers, and found myself laughing out loud more than once. :)
