1. Introduction: starting a podcast is easy. Building a podcast following is not. And while there are some things that you can't control, Conversely, there are also things that you can control. Your podcast s CEO search engine optimization is one of those things. I'm podcast stock, and I've helped many individuals and businesses reach their goals through podcasting. And I want to help you do the same. In this course, you'll learn how to do S e o keyword research. You'll learn how to select the right keywords. And, most importantly, I'll show you how to use them. If you're looking to build a podcast, following this class is definitely for you. So enroll today and I'll show you how to build a podcast following by using simple S CEO techniques. Overview: search engine optimization, or SEO, is the process of increasing the quality and quantity of website traffic by increasing the visibility of a website to users in a search engine, said Differently. S CEO increases the likelihood of getting your website found in a search engine. This is done by unpaid organic methods as opposed to ECM or search engine marketing which involved paid ads. There are several aspects of S E O, but the first step and arguably the most important step is where we're going to spend our time. Keyword research is the foundation to any successful S CEO initiative. Keyword research involves understanding what people are searching for in an Internet search . Those keywords that people searched for are then placed onto your website to drive targeted traffic. Our process will be to determine the subject. Do keyword research, right. The podcast, script or podcast outline right the podcast title using keywords and write the podcast show notes and podcast tags using keywords. The ultimate product will be a podcast that has its title show notes and tags primed with search engine keywords. Search engine keywords to get your podcast found, and the more people that find your podcast, the larger you can grow your audience 3. Setting up the keyword planner: There are a number of ways to do keyword research, and there are a number of platforms that will certainly help aid this process. Many of the ways to do keyword research are only offered through paid subscriptions to some site. While I believe those sites have their merits, we aren't going to look at any of the paid sites in this class. We're only going to look at Google keyword planner. Google keyword planner is a free tool, but you have to set up a Google ads account to access this free tool. You don't have to run any ads, but you do have to set up in ad accounts. If you already have an ad accounts set up, you can skip this part first. We'll go to ads dot google dot com. Here, you'll sign into your email. If you've already started this process and Google is forcing you to enter a credit card, you'll need to use a different email address to get started. Next will select new Google ads account. Once we're on this page, look towards the bottom of the screen and we'll see. Switch to expert mode. Click the link to move forward on this page towards the left side of the screen. We'll see. The link creates an account without to campaign. Click the link to move forward on this page, simply verify that everything looks correct. Country time, zone and currency. If it looks correct, select. Submit. If not, you can easily change the information before proceeding, and now you're set up. Click explore your account to move forward. Next up, let's look at doing a little keyword research. 4. Conducting Keyword Research: Now that you're in your ad account, let's do some keyword research. If you make your way to tools and settings on the top of the page, then go down the planning. You'll then select keyword planner. If this is your first time here, you might get a message screen that looks like this. If you do, just select get started to go through. Once here, you'll want to click on Discover New Keywords. This is the area that we're going to enter our possible podcast show topics. Let's say that I was a health food podcaster, and I wanted to do a show on paleo food. Let's also say that I want to do it on a specific paleo food. I just don't know what right now. So I'm going to answer in a few topics. The keyword planner will allow me to enter up to 10 keywords, but I'm going to enter in five. In this example, Paleo Paleo Stacks Best paleo recipes. Top paleo chefs paleo for kids. One sensor. You'll be brought to this next page from here. We could add more search terms or remove them if you wanted to. But if you look around the middle of the page. You see that the keyword planner has generated 874 keyword ideas, which is a lot. So at this point, since I'm happy with the amount of keywords that were provided, I'll select download keyword ideas to retrieve the Excel file. If, for some reason I wasn't happy with the amount of keywords that were presented, I could answer more search terms or even enter different search terms. It's a game of trial and error, and it's okay to simply try again if you don't like what you see. So when we select download keyword ideas, this is the file that we get now. Sometimes Google ads will have an average volume column instead of minimum search volume and maximum search volume. Either one is okay to use. But just be aware that it could look different than what you see now. Now is what I like to prepare this spreadsheet for usage. Essentially, we want to delete all columns, except for the following key word minimum search volume. Maximum search volume competition. Remember, if you see average search volume instead of men Max, search volume. Just use that column because we'll get effectively the same results from that column as well. Next, I like to sort the data, feel free to do it any way you'd like, But this is the way that I do it. I sort by competition, then by Max volume or average volume. If you see it's when sorting by competition, the order needs to be by a custom list, as shown here, low, medium and high. Then we want to sort the max search volume and order the list from largest to smallest. Ideally, what we want are the most relevant highest searched, lowest competition keywords to use in the text and our podcast episode. Why do we want to use these types of keywords when we obtain relevant, highly searched, low competition keywords? This means that a lot of people are looking for something on Google and there are a low number of websites competing for the search traffic. This means that by using these words, you can get your podcast episode ranked higher faster. Now, keep in mind that this is simply for S e o search engine optimization, not SCM search engine marketing. The approach would be different for SCM, which would be using paid ads to generate traffic. Once we've prepared this list, how we want, it's time to move forward. The process that we just went through is called keyword research. It's a light version of keyword research, but it's much better than not doing any keyword research at all. And most importantly, this keyword research will give us the needed foundation to complete the next part of this process. 5. Selecting your keywords: Now let's look at how we select our key words that were going to use now because we are looking for the top keywords with the lowest amount of competition. I only want to look at the key words that are low competition keywords. Phil. Free to use medium and high keywords in your work. But please understand that the higher the competition, the harder it will be for your podcast episode to rank favourably in a search engine. In my opinion, I like to leave the medium and high competition keywords to the paid ads, not organic search. So the first thing I would do if I didn't have an exact topic is peruse through my list. I mean, I know that this is a list on paleo foods, but I need something more specific. So after looking through this list, I think I'll go with paleo chocolate cake highlighted here in yellow. I'm not sure how that would taste, but regardless, I'm going to make it my subject for my podcast, and I want to include this keyword phrase in my podcast episode title. More on that later, I want to use the keyword phrase paleo chocolate cake for three reasons. The first reason is because it is low competition, which means there aren't many websites that are competing for this particular phrase. The second reason is the search volume. We see that paleo chocolate cake is on the upper end of the range for search, with an average monthly search volume of 10,000. And last but not least, it's a subject I think I can make a good podcast about. Remember, ultimately, that's what we're here for, to make a great podcast and build a following while doing so. Next, Let's find a few key words that are related to our main keyword phrase. Here. We're looking for words or phrases to use in our podcast show notes. Now I realize at this point we may not know anything about this podcast other than we want it to be about paleo chocolate cake. But gathering these keywords could be an extremely worthwhile task. I usually like to grab about 5 to 10 related keywords for my podcast show notes. I may not use them all, but I like to have them just in case. So I'm going to highlight the related words and green paleo diet paleo recipes. Best paleo recipes, paleo diet desserts, quick paleo desserts. Not sure if this is quick or not, but I want to grab it for now, just in case healthy paleo deserts and best paleo dessert recipes. So ultimately, we have a list of key word phrases that looks like this. Armed with several potent keywords, it's time to use them. Let's find out how. 6. Using the keywords: Now comes the fun part. It's time to use the key words. There are three places that we want to use our keywords. The episode title episode show notes in the episode tags. Now we already know our podcast subject, So if you feel comfortable riding out the podcast title show notes and tax, you can proceed. In doing so. Some of you may feel more comfortable riding this out after you have recorded your podcast or written your podcast, outline or script. Either way is fine. It just depends on what you feel most comfortable with. Since this is a fictitious podcast that I made up, I am just going to move forward with the next steps. Let's start out with the tags and when I say tags, I'm referring to the additional tags that many hosting sites will allow you to place to help you get found on soundcloud. It looks like this, and as you can see, I've simply entered in literally every single keyword phrase that I highlighted earlier. That's all you have to do for the tags. It's that easy. Feel free to add as many as your podcast host will allow. Typically, these tags will help your search ranking within the podcast host search engine Next will want to ride out the title. Now we know that we have to at least use the following phrase paleo chocolate cake. This absolutely needs to be in our title and it should only be there once. You don't want to overdo it when writing with keywords, you want things to sound as natural as possible and not like you're trying to jam in keywords wherever possible. So what I would do is just start brainstorming title ideas like that time I had the best paleo chocolate cake Paleo chocolate cake. Best dessert ever. No, you can't have a bite of my paleo chocolate cake. OMG Best paleo chocolate cake ever. That time I ate the entire paleo chocolate cake. Now, while I like them all, I think I'm gonna go with OMG best paleo chocolate cake. Ever since I've chosen this, I would simply need to enter this in the title or episode name section and finally I would write out the show notes. Just like I said earlier. It's not necessary to add in tons and tons of keywords. Your goal should be to add as many as you can while keeping its sounding natural. If that means two key words that only put two key words. No big deal, remember to keywords is better than having no keywords. And since we're using heavily searched low competition keywords, we shouldn't feel any pressure to jam in a 1,000,000 keywords. So let's look at an example for our show notes. I have always been a fan of the paleo diet. Unfortunately, I haven't always been very good at finding the best paleo recipes. It's easy to find healthy paleo desserts, but it's not always easy to find the best paleo desserts. This was hands down the best paleo chocolate cake I have ever put into my mouth. In this episode, I'm going to do a blind taste test with the toughest food critics on the planet. My kids trust me, you won't want to miss this episode. See you inside. So in this example, we were able to use paleo diet best paleo recipes, healthy paleo desserts, best paleo desserts, paleo Chocolate cake. The amount of keywords that you use will be dependent on the length of your podcast show notes in general flow of the podcast show notes. I typically don't write more than I indicated in my example, but is always do whatever works best for you and your audience. 7. Summary: building a podcast audience can be tough, but you can definitely help your efforts by using effective S seo marketing techniques. If you do it yourself, this won't cost you anything but your time. So invest in yourself and you could see big results. Let's look at what you learned in this course.
