This class is about teaching you how to read faster, better and more efficiently. This class will go through an assortment of different reading techniques and methods. I will also be teaching you a series of reading exercises that will help you increase your reading speed while maintaining the same level of understanding.

More specifically I will be going over things such as

- Eye Placement

- Skimming Properly

- Measuring Progress


This class is for anyone who wants to improve their reading abilities. There is no special requirements or prior knowledge needed for this class to work for you. The only thing you need is the ability to read at a basic level.

Specifically, students or frequent readers of academic books might find certain portions of this class especially helpful.

1. I - INTRODUCTION: hello and welcome in this class. I won't be teaching you how to become a better reader. The aim is to make your faster at reading while also simultaneously making you better at processing and remembering the information that you're reading. The teaching will mainly be spent up into different kinds of methods for getting better at reading. One is using different methods for how to read on the page. Some could be applied universally, while others are better for specific kinds of reading. The other is just trying to teach you different tips for reading faster and with better comprehension. These won't fit into a specific reading method or theory. They're solely for trying to make your reading better. Overall, this class is great for anybody who wants to get better and faster at reading. Certain parts are perhaps more guided towards academical, reading that students will find useful things. Class doesn't require any prior knowledge of special reading techniques as long as you can read his classes for you. This class of be taking you about things such as measuring progress, I placement, facing skimming and general tips. After finishing this class, you should see a significant increase in your reading speed without a lower level of comprehension simultaneously, you should understand how it's a better locate and decipher information. 2. II - MEASURING PROGRESS: it is very important that you're also able to see the improvement that these methods and exercises will produce. Being able to assess how fast read and how your speed ringing skill is evolving is important. So how do we calculate how fast we're reading? We do this with WPS. W P M is short for words per minute, and it is just that a simple method and formula for finding out how many words you read in a minute. No, before we actually get into learning has re faster. Now that we have a baseline, you can get into how to improve your reading. 3. III - EYE PLACEMENT: All right, So first up is the placement of your eyes when you're reading. This might not be something you have thought of much since it seems quite simple, right? Read from left edge of the text to the right edge of the text. In this example, the blue dot represents the eye placement of the reader. Now, this is likely how much of you read. But while this is fine and the most simple way of reading it is also quite ineffective. The reason is that by placing our eyes like this, we are not utilizing our peripheral vision. Our peripheral vision is off. The things we see indirectly, basically everything you see out of the corner of your eye other than when your pupil is focusing on. You don't actually have to look directly at every single word to see what it says by looking at one word. You will also be able to see least two words next to the word without having to actually look at the orange boxes. Here is a representation of what you can see next to your eye placement. So since we do not need to read every single word, that would also mean that we don't actually have to start reading the lines with the first word. These two red lines shows where the readers high placements start and end for each line again. Most people probably have thes lines all the way out at the beginning and end of each line , but instead we're going to move them closer to the center off the page with the beginner. If this probably means skipping the first and last words and eats line, we don't actually need to place our eyes on them to see what they say. Instead, all those words at the edges will be in your provide aerial view, and we will be able to still read them and comprehend them without having to actually look at them. So, simply put, you should try to read as close to the middle of the page as possible. The more words that you don't have to look directly at in each line page will save you a lot of time. The more you do this and the more you train your ability to comprehend the words in your peripheral view, the more words you can skip looking at and you will get closer and closer to just looking at the middle of the page. The amount of words in your peripheral view will get bigger and bigger and save you more and more time. Another way to think about limiting the amount of time you're I spent digesting. It is okay if you don't feel like you're containing everything in the beginning, that is expected when you're using this type of reading for the first time, but stick with it and over time you should be used to reading like this and find that you're reading a lot faster than before 4. IV - PACING: pacing how fast you are reading is extremely important for being a better and faster reader . Previous things we have covered our methods on has agreed faster and be more efficient. But you also need to be able to process that information to increase your reading speed. You need to put yourself in a position where you're focusing on this speed instead of attention. You should try to read faster than what you can actually handle, so you can adjust to that higher speed use either your finger, a pen or something. Third, it's a point with your book. Yeah, is that item is gonna be your pacer for how fast you're gonna attempt to read. You're gonna run the item alone the page just above the line you're currently reading. The key to this exercise is that it is your eyes that follows item and not your item that follows your eyes. You should run the item along the page faster than what you can actually understand and just attempt to comprehend what it is you're reading. After doing this for a few minutes, make a tiny break, then go back and read at that fast pace again. Go with this exercise isn't to understand or fully comprehend what you're reading. V - SKIMMING PROPERLY: skimming is a very popular, quite widely recognized technique. However, some people have either misunderstood the technique or simply applying it in the wrong way . Skimming for a lot of people is synonymous with just reading very, very fast and trying to digest as much information while you're doing this as possible. Skimming down right is a lot more like very quickly trying to create an overview and attempting to find the most valuable information. A big part of skimming directly. Is understanding were important or valuable information is most likely to be hiding as a beginner. Been skimming through. You should start by looking at titles and subtitles. If you're trying to find specific information to answer questions or other doubts, this is especially important since it will help you eliminate all the parts of the book that doesn't hold the answers we're looking for. Even if you're looking for specific answers and this is a book where you have to read all of it, this step is still very useful. Let's get it over you of the different chapters and sub chapters on what they're about now , after you found a chapter or sub chapter that holds information you need. You want to look where the information you seek is most likely to be. Most folks at least academical or learning oriented books will almost always start off different chapters in sub chapters, with an introduction like Paragraph. The final paragraph of the section will also most likely end with a conclusion and sums up most of what it said in the main bulk of the text. For these reasons, we were skimming after we located chapter of some chatter that we think contains valuable information. We're just going to read the first and last paragraph of that chapter. In most cases, this will fills in a lot of the most important information from that chapter. Now, if the introduction and conclusion doesn't fill you enough in what you need and you're looking for more specifics, then you will have to dive into the main bulk of the text and read it to try and find information again. If the main text is divided into paragraphs or sections, try reading the first and last couple of lines to see if the information is there. Diagrams or other drawings are also a good source of information. Sometimes the diagrams charts or drawings will contain the written information in a condensed form. And if you could just decode the diagram, you will likely understand what the text is trying to tell you. Additionally, in a lot of books, an explanation off the diagrams or charts will be provided either below the diagram or in a footnote focusing on these sections if you're having trouble understanding the diagrams. 6. VI - GENERAL TIPS: adjusting speed. Of course, being Ellison's digest, the information on the page as fast as possible is the best option. The faster you can read while understanding it, and the quicker you can learn the information. But you also need to understand that different sections require different speeds. Sections of text you find easy to read fast, and you have a full comprehension off should, of course, be read fast. But don't be afraid to slow down on them if the tech suddenly gets hard. Where includes concepts or words, you have trouble understanding. Slow down and focus on understanding instead of just steaming ahead medication and goals. At the end of the day, the best way to get better and faster at reading is to read. The more you read better, you're going to get in a world of distractions. You can be hard to keep focused and stay consistent with your reading. There are many ways to attempt to counter act this. One of the best is to set off a specific time for reading or a specific amount of pages in the book you're currently reading. You might decide that every night just before bed, you're gonna read 20 pages in your book. Which books are good? You should, of course, read whatever books you want to read. That is why you learned, How's it reads? Begin with. But understand that in terms of how compatible books are with speed reading techniques, not all books are when doing the W. P. M exercise. You want to use the same book, or at least a very similar type of book for each time you re calculate your W. P. M. The reason for this is that there's a big difference between a book with only texts and no pictures, diagrams or Bolton lists. And the book that contains all of that, the more simple and familiar the consent is from the page to the page. By now, you should have a good understanding on how to use an apply specific reading methods.
