1. Trailer public speaking: I'm tired of hearing the same old public speaking advice everywhere I go and it's great. Good stuff, right? They talk about gestures and vocal variety and change your pitch and used triplets and things that are very helpful when you first start off. But after you started, give more speeches. After you start to have a little bit more practice, you start to wonder, How can I go from good speaker two Great speaker. So that's what I'm gonna talk about today. I'm gonna skip the bs and not give you the same information over and over again. I'm gonna ask why and give you unconventional tips to transform into a great speaker. So if you want to be the next great speaker, if you wanna be that Ted Speaker who leaves everyone the audience saying, Wow, that's an office 2. Intro: in this course, I'm basically going to give you three really quick tips of how you could go from good to great in public speaking the first thing I'm gonna talk about this story. Kelly, the second thing I'm gonna talk about is how to be authentic. And the third thing is how to sell yourself. What is your speech about? No, I know these sound like those generic things that you read on all the blog's. But I think the interesting thing becomes somebody says to be a better speaker. You should be a better story time. But what does that mean? How can I be a better, better storytelling? Why is that important? In which ways can I use it? So that's what I'm going to talk about. And if you absorb this material and do the class project that I have listed below, you're definitely gonna see your public speaking skills improve 3. Storytelling: It's an important part of being a good public speaker is telling good stories and you hear this a lot about storytelling. And we all know that humans respond to stories in a way that you don't normally respond to with statistics and data and stuff like that. So the question becomes that everyone is saying, Tell stories, How do you find these good stories to tell? How do you become someone who's a good storyteller? So a lot of the things that we talked about earlier, uh, coming coming to handy there like right? All the things you look up gestures, vocal variety, pitch. Those things come into play when you're telling a story. But where do you actually find stories? So one thing you have to do is become a story curator, and what I mean by that is any time you hear a story or even a phrase that you think, Wow, that blows you away. Write that down in a journal or maybe Macon Evernote notebook. That's a stories and put all the stories there, and these stories can be used in the beginning of your speech at the end of his speech. If you are blown away by this story. There is no doubt that if you're able to convey that same passion, the audience will be, too. Another thing is, if you think deeply about your topic, it's actually a weird and curious thing that you tend to observe things in your life that add value or add interesting perspectives on the speech that you're giving. So that isn't as another good way. Teoh for story inspiration in your own life in your own observations, that's honestly all stand up. Comedy is right. All stand up comedy is telling those types of stories. 4. Be yourself: So the second way to take your speech is the next level is to be yourself be happened again . This was something that you read about a lot, just like storytelling. Every time. Dick and Harry, with the public speaking block, is talking about how you should be authentic. But how can you actually be authentic? Well, I tend to find that asking myself the right questions allows me to be more authentic. So the first most important thing you need to ask yourself is, why am I giving this speech? Why this topic wind? Now, how is this related to me? And if you understand the reasons that you are giving the speech and the reasons that these message resonate with you, your speech will be much better because of it. Another thing that you could do to find kind of the kernel of truth is ask five wise. And I think this was a process that was first started in Japan by the founders of Toyota. They used to ask why five times to get to the root of a problem. So, for example, you could say I am giving a talk about productivity. Well, why? Because I think it's important for people to be productive. Why? Because in my life I have struggled with productivity, and I tend to realize that instead of doing the things I want to do and following the dreams I want to follow, I'm just obsessed with trying to figure out the habits that make me work. So you keep asking yourself Why? Until you get to the kernel of truth, of who you are and why you're giving this speech, Uh, and the other thing you have to think about is what's the purpose of this speech? What is your purpose? And we're going to talk more about how to relate to the audience and how to sell this speech in the next section. 5. What are you selling?: So the third thing that you need to do to be a better public speaker is trying to understand what you're selling now. I don't mean that in a kind of sleazy snake oil salesman type of way. How are you actually trying to help people? What do you actually selling? Why are people sitting down and listening to speech? Why was this speech made in the first place? And that's an incredibly important question, because what you need to do is you need to sell a transformation when someone is sitting in the audience. They're actually looking to take back at least a piece of advice, feel differently about something or have something emotionally resonate with them. And what you really need to do is creating outcome for this person. How is the audience member gonna be different after listening to your speech? And that's where being original and being especially counterintuitive comes in a handy Because if you tell the audience members something they already know, they're not going to think your speech is very good, right, because they've heard that advice over and over and over again. So what you really need to do is think how What type of advice can I give? That isn't obvious. And how can I present it in a way that they will feel like a different person after the top ? That's where you really need to do. How can I maximize the amount of help? How can I maximize what I sell them? And once you're able to do that, once you're able to be authentic to yourself, tell it in a masterful way, using stories and figure out what you're selling. Your speeches will be way better, because what you're really doing is you're not using scripted things or you're not using gestures or vocal variety of pitch correction because you think that will make you a better public speaker. What you're actually doing is asking yourself hard hitting questions and being reflective about your topic. And once you think deeply about your topic, once you understand why it resonates with you, then it's way easier to make that speech resonate with someone in the audience. So before you give a speech while you're writing, always ask yourself, What am I selling? How am I selling? And why am I selling what I'm selling? How will an audience member be a different person that much better for having listened to my speech 6. Conclusion: So in this course, I tried to give you three unconventional tips for how to be a better public speaker, how to go from someone who is a good public speaker and become a great public speaker. And I think a lot of the times we tend to like to give solutions in our speeches. But the best speeches honestly often leave you with questions because you want toe. Ask the audience member who they are. You want to change their perception. And I haven't asked questions about who they have become after the speech. So you wanna have a lingering feeling. So the three questions I will leave you with at the end of this course is first. How do you define what good stories are? The second question is, why are you giving speeches or giving a speech about the specific topic you're talking about? And the third thing is, what are you selling? And if you're able to answer all three of these questions and you're able to incorporate those answers into your speeches, your speeches will be far better than what they were before. I think that's what really transformed me into a better public speaker now there many more things that can turn your speech from good to great. But I think right now we could practice these. Be yourself, Understand why you're giving the speech or why you're writing this speech down as your class project. And the third thing is, you should figure out what you're selling to the audience, what you're selling to a person reading this or a person in listening to this to the speech that you have that you've given.
