Because no matter how good your videos or photos are if they don't have the right information to help the buyer find them among other million files, they'll never be sold.

In this Skillshare class, you'll learn

  • The basics of Metadata (keywords, tags, descriptions, titles, etc)
  • How to write metadata in a fast and efficient way
  • How to use Shutterstock's Suggestion Tool
  • Download a FREE Spreadsheet Template

How to Store your Metadata Work in a CSV Spreadsheet.

You will also have access to my own CSV template and learn how to save all your keywords and descriptions inside it, so you can quickly upload all this info to new agencies in the future.

This course is great for stock contributors who have at least done their first uploads to stock agencies like Shutterstock or Adobe Stock. I'll take you through the entire process and you won't need any software experience, but it will buy you some time if you:

  1. Are already a Stock Contributor on Shutterstock
  2. Are familiar with Google Drive and Google Sheets (or similar spreadsheet software)

1. Why Metadata Works: If you are already stock, Reiter someone that sells stock photos and stock videos online. You know how important it is to write decent man it data. After all, this is the only way that your content can get found among millions of other files and then get saves. There's no sense in working hours producing quality material if your work is not being found by the buyers. After all, discards has made for all stock traders out there looking to write matter. Data in a faster and more efficient way not only will learn how to do that professionally, but also how to start all your work safely inside a CSB, scratch it that can also be used to keep track of which files are online on each agency. Along with the class, I will give you full access to my personal template and show you my workflow for organizing metadata in the clot. This class is organized intrigue parts. The 1st 1 focus on keywords and metadata. You learn the basics off matter data, how search engines operate, the for keyword categories, the best practices on keywords, suggestion tools and how to write editorial matter data as well then we're going to see as we stretches, the four reasons people use it, how to use it to keep track off uploads and how to apply metadata on multiple files at once . And, of course, you're going to have access to my own CSP template so you can use it for your own. And finally, we're going to some advance attacks that you can use to make your metadata workflow even faster and more efficient. My name is G's Ebert. I'm a stock contributor since 2012 and I also run a YouTube channel called Creative Income , in which thousands of creators all over the world learned stock footage and stock photography together in stock photography and stock footage. Metadata exists to make the finding of their files easier for customers who need them. Well, reading metadata goes way beyond describing what can be seen on a shot. It should also describe the message techniques and what can be represented to that piece of art. My goal with this class is to empower you to do this in the fastest and most efficient way . As a class project, you have share a photo of your portfolio and the matter data you produce with the lessons that you have learned. Skew share is a powerful tool that maximizes learning true feedback that comes from me, the instructor and from fellow students as well. After completing the cars your stretch, it will live on as the main backup off all your metadata work. So feel free to share as much of your learning and metadata process as you would like. And don't be afraid to ask for feedback. I see you in the class. 2. Metadata 101: before everything. I want to make sure I covered the basics off what metadata is. So everyone can be on the same page for the lessons ahead. As we said before in stock photography and stock footage, Mata data exist to make the finding of her files easier for customers who need them. It goes way beyond describing what can be seen on a shot. It should also describe the message, the techniques and what can be represented to the piece of art. So think about the words and phrases that buyers are most likely to type when searching for a far like yours. Let's get practical and see how it works. Let's say I'm a blogger, writing an article about the problems in the use of smartphones by Children, and I'm searching for an image on the STUCK agency. I'll search for kids using smartphone. This search has almost 16,000 results. Ah, 160 pages off pictures That should work for me. And here's a good one that I'm going to pick for this example. So I know it's always that I only got to this picture because it was in the first page of results off shutter stock. And if I was really a buyer, I would only buy it if it really was relevant to the continent I am producing. And that's why it is so important that we start counterterrorist, right? Good man, a data for our files because this is the only way that our files will be found by the people that really need it. That's like how the words I search appear in the matter. They're off this file. This text here is the description of the foul and down under you confined the keywords. So in this example, we can see that the tree words I search appear multiple times in the metadata. All the words in Keat using smartphone appear involved the description and the keywords. And that's how sure stock knows this image is relevant to what I was searching for. So this is how the metadata looks for the buyers of stock agencies. Let me show you how it looks from our sight. Inside the contributor to Maradona for stock agencies is generally made off description, keywords and extras, which can be categories type of fuse. It releases etcetera, and this can change from agency to agency insurance. Our contributor platform, the description field will be right here. You can write up to 200 characters. The keywords are placed here in the right, and you can add up to 50 keywords. That can be a single word or a single phrase. As I said before, this is basically made of words and phrases that buyers are most likely to type when searching for a file like yours. Some agencies also have an automatic keywords feature that can be very useful. Sometimes here we also have other feuds, like the image type, where you let them know if the bloated foul is a photo or an illustration use. It is a bit more complicated, but you learn the difference among them in the next licence. Then you have categories that have to be chosen and finally, a box to mark major content and another place to upload releases, which is also something that we learned soon. So here are three points to summarize number one. The goal of matter data is to ensure that buyers will find your content. Number two metadata is made of text, so most of the times we're talking about description and keywords number tree. It is uploaded by you the contributor, and it happens at the same time that you upload the image or the video file. 3. Search Engines and How They Think: There is not much information about shutter stock and other agencies search engine, so we don't know enough about how their algorithm works and what criteria are used to rank search results. So far, By my own experience, Shutter stock seems to consider both the number of sales and the relevance of metadata compared to what the user has searched. What we know is that all search engines are focused on one single goal, and that is delivering the best and more relevant results to their users. And Google is the big standard for debt. That's why I like to ride my descriptions and keywords as if each file was a Web page. This will also give you more chances to bring buyer straight from Google or all their searchers. So the secret is to add keywords that are truly relevant for the searcher and use them in the description, too. Then you can search for synonyms and similar concepts and put them there as well. Why are seen and I'm so important? Well, different from ghoul. The search engines off the agencies still have a hard time to understand what synonyms are . For example, the searches for car cars and Ultra Mobile will all return different results, so it might be a good idea. Have these three wards in your matter data. So do make good use off the maximum of 50 keywords that you have. And should you use all the 50 keywords? If you take a quick look at the best selling files, you will notice that most of them make use off almost all text that they can. On the other hand, it might be good to be careful and avoid unrelated keywords. Good search engines. They tend to restrain spammy files or results that don't look interesting to the searcher. So the summarized be relevant and try to keep all the key words that you can, but just the ones that are connected to the subject off your file. 4. Meet the 4 Main Groups: one helpful trick to right keywords is by going through this four categories. Descriptive, conceptual, location and technical. Later in this class, I'm going to show you in a lesson. What are the most use keywords off each category among the best selling stock files? So let's go to the Tigers. Number one. We have descriptive. It refers to what can be seen in the image objectively. Here's where you're going to describe the people in the shots, the objects, the callers and the most obvious things that can be seen in the file. In this example, we can see the words car vehicle, convertible road Dr to people Couple man, driver, girl, female woman, Caucasian raised arms, hands outstretched, men sitting wintered. So these are all words describing what can really be seen in the objective perspective, Conceptual goes to the very opposite. We're not talking about abstract things, concepts that are open to personal interpretation like emotions, feelings and ideas. Representative. In the previous example, we could find words like vacation travel, summer holiday, lifestyle, freedom, road trip and Carefree. For example, the altar also had advantaged in 19 seventies to refer to the car, so I guess you get it when I say that concepts are abstract because you cannot see the object, freedom or vacation in this shot. But we can all agree that that is something that we could understand from it. So biggest difference in conceptual versus descriptive keywords is just like seeing versus understanding. Then we have location, and this refers to the actual location of the shot. You can be geographic as the name of a Serie heuristic point or country where it was shot, but it can also refer to the scenario like home business, nature school. It's era. In the previous examples, the geographic location wasn't really important for the picture, so the location keywords are more related to the scenario. Some examples are nature, roads and mountains. Then we can go to the last category, which is sec nickel, And this refers to keywords that describe the technique you used to achieve that shot. You can describe the light the angle. You can also describe the speed or even the style that you have used on your shooting or editing. In this example, we only find keywords related to light, for example, sunset and sunlight. But you can find keywords like error, shot back view, panoramic long exposure and the list goes on once again, you will be able to find more examples of this catchy Gers in part tree off this class. 5. Keyword Suggestion Tool - Taking The Most of It: by far the best way to get a good number of good keywords is by using keywords. Suggestions is the best one off. There is shutter stocks, and it is available for free for all contributors. Even if you're are going to upload to other agencies, shutter stock is the place to get the work started. Let's take this Golden Bridge picture as an example. After selecting it, I click on keywords. Suggestions will. This will open a new tab on my rap browser, where I will try to find images that are similar to my I'll do this by putting down a few words that described a picture in this case, Golden Gate Bridge is the exact subject of my photo. After I hit the search bottom shoulder, stock is going to show me a bunch of results and asked me to select tree or more images similar to my And once I do this, some projections will come up. The cool thing on this latest version is that the most relevant keywords will be placed first. That means the most use keywords among all selected images, and this increases the chance of getting good keywords now feel free to delete some words and at daughters. It's also good to be sure that words that don't make sense alone are combined. San Francisco Golden Gate are few example in this case, because San or Francisco alone, there will be a waste of keywords. Now keep all the words that you feel that are relevant and take out those that are not connected to this subject. Once again, we do not know how their search algorithm works, but if they're trying to get anywhere close to what Google is that it might be a good idea to take out unrelated words Once you finish, hit the copy to Clipboard Bottom Kobe those words and close the step. You cannot pays his words on the keywords area. This should be a good help getting your first, if not all, of your keywords, especially the category of descriptive keywords. It can also be a good idea to run a new search for keywords on images that don't look like yours. But that's still represent the same concept or idea 6. Writing a Good Description: and here comes a quick tip. I always leave the description to be done after I have the key works, because once you have them, it will be easy to know which words to use in the description, so trying to connect them in the best way that you can. But don't really worry if the whole thing doesn't make sense and then just try to use the essential keywords again. So the search algorithm is able to understand how important these words are. An example of the last lesson. I ended up with something around 30 keywords. The ones I selected to using the description were Golden Gate Bridge, Sen. Francie School Baker Bitch Juristic Travel, Historic Sea and Mountains And that got me to the following description. The Golden Gate Bridge is a historic touristic point for travelers in San Francisco, California seen from Baker Beach with mountains and see in the background. So that was just an example of how I used the most relevant keywords that I got from the suggestion to to create a new description 7. Writing Editorial Metadata: At some point in your stock career, you're going to deal with the difference between commercial and editorial usage. You can get quite complicated, and in some cases, the only way to find out is by uploading a file and see what the agency responses. I still want to make sure you understand what the difference is, so I will bring you some excerpts of the stock creators Complete course. There you go to sell any creative accidents like agencies, you need to have all rights to do so. This means that for every recognizable person or property, you should have a signed release to prove you have the rights to license that content. However, you don't have to give up on files that don't meet these requirements. This is where you need to understand the difference between commercial and editorial content. It is quite a complex subject, and open scares new stock creators. But don't worry. I will guide you through all the important stuff. It is actually easier than it looks. The simple differences how each content is permitted to be used. Editorial content can only be used for news or educational purposes. News organizations from small local ones. The big ones, such as BBC, CNN, New York Times, Open by stock imagery to illustrate the story, even our news development. On the other hand, commercial content has a brother usage not only news and educational purposes, but also to commercialize monetize cell, promote, advertise a product business or service. Martin just newspaper. It could be used on a billboard website, block brochure, Facebook ads or even at the division commercial. When is the media file you have to choose between selling it under commercial or editorial usage? Now you may be asking, Why would I choose editorial if it limits the number of people that could buy it? And this is where I get to the point that we were discussing the beginning. Commercial content requires that you have signed permission from every recognizable person or property. In the image review. This means people, private properties, artwork, graffiti, the tools, it said. If there's anything recognizable that somebody could legally claim, you will need a signature. No visible trademarks companies, names or logos can be present in the content, and it should be free off any intellectual property infringements, including any recognize book, registered product, editorial content, On the other hand, it's simpler to be approved, generally doesn't need to have model and property releases and can contain business names and lows. So the general is to ask yourself, Does my shot include a recognizable person, a property product or Brent? Could anybody claim and prove that I don't have the right to sell it? If no, Then you can submit it as commercial with no worse. If you said yes, then the next question is, Can I get a signature from the person or property owner? If, Yes, do it as I thought in the last lesson and submitted as commercial if no, then submitted as editorial. I sure the metadata requirements for that in Section six upload and submit. Now we will be sure of the answer in 100% of times. No, actually, nobody's. In some occasions, there may be people in the frame, but not so visible. And since reviewers air human, it is up to their interpretation. You'll notice how the very same file might get a rejection and an approval in different days. Reviewers are humans, after all, some reviewers except images of people if their silhouettes, some don't and This is why I say that there is no problem on trying submitted as commercial wants and learn with the residue get. Getting rejected is not a problem and will not affect your account or earnings on my YouTube channel. I did a video with photographer Alex Rotenberg where we compare earnings on each case. Commercial content has a broader public. This often means Marcel but is not a rule. An exclusive editorial shot of a training subject or of breaking news might sell better than many commercial files. So I would say, Do commercial when it's possible. But don't give up on a file just because of that. This should be enough to get started selling your photos and footage. But there is a lot more content. If you want to go deeper on this subject, I will play some interesting links. If that's her case, one of them includes a big update at least off known image restrictions that includes brands and trademarks, objects and subjects, places and landmarks and events off many countries in the world. There are some rules you need to follow to get your editorial content approved. The first thing you should do is let the agency know that file is being submitted for editorial usage. This is pretty easy to be the. Each agency has a bottom or check box for debts. Why was the meter fast except by Arab stock, which is not accepting editorial content for no. The second thing is writing your description. We've entity Turo. Caption. The formatting of this captains will be very important in getting your fall accepted and also helping potential buyers find your clip and editorial. Women should have an appropriate caption, which describes the specific surfeit off the image. This is how caption should generally be structured city, common state or country hyphen. Month. The year Colin, this all in capital and then you continue with the description. Don't forget to describe what the image represents and to list names off any famous person . A beauty. For example, this is a description of one of my files San Francisco Colma, California hyphen 2017. Call a classic hotel with international flags in the very heart of the cynical body. Since there isn't a special event occurring here, there's no problem. If I didn't described official date, I did this shot. This is all you have to do to get approval on your editorial content, and this calls the first part of our class in part to you're going to learn more about CSP spreadsheets and impart tree. We're going into order possibilities and techniques that you can use to improve and speed up your metadata workflow. 8. 4 Reasons to Use CSV Spreadsheets : Welcome to parts to here. We're going to learn how to organize or metadata work into a C S V. Stretch it first. Let's learn about the for reasons that people usually do it. The next thing that you're going to see were extracted from the complete cars. Stock creators. The biggest reason people do it is to apply meta data to multiple files at once, as I just mentioned. Instead of writing descriptions and keywords for each file inside the agency website, you can ride them in Excel or similar softer stock agency systems. I able to read this year to be fouls and apply its data across multiple fives, so don't have to do it manually. All you have to do is a bythe CSP and your father, who then received the title description Keywords. It's Sarah. This is going to decrease your work time significantly. The second reason is saving your work. Spreadsheets are an excellent method to keep your work safe and organized. It's also in case you do a similar shot and want to copy the matter. Data from a note file or also in case you're follow gets refused and you want to keep your metadata work to try it again. May a file get declined. You have saved a good amount of time by saving this information before submitting to fall. This reason is more popular among filmmakers than photographers because, as we discussed in the last enough photography workforce stocks a meter and expects already right matter data into Jay Peak fails. It's exactly that the Jay Peak files have the metadata insight, so as long as your files air safe, your meta data will be safe, too. The third reason is the faster blow to new agencies. Even if you have black box to submit your video files to various agencies at bonds or stocks a meter for photography's, there is a chance that you will still need this information. If you ever wish to upload your content, toe any new agency, the last reason is the ability to keep track of the starters off each file on each agency. It's basically a table used to mark what files are already in line, which ones need adjustments. Which one needs matter data. It's there a simple but perfect to when you were a blow to multiple agencies 9. How a CSV Spreadsheet Should Look: I am oversimplifying this, but in general, this is how CSB spreadsheets are made. The first column is made of the file names. These are the exact name of your files. This is the only information that is 100% required. After all, this is how agencies recognized which files should get, which changes. The next columns are usually the description and the keywords. This is where you should write a description and the keywords off each file. Then there are all different kinds of information agencies can possibly accept. Like a t gheris. Editorial or not, it's Sarah. The first line of the spreadsheet has the column names. This is what the system reads to understand what information it should find on each column . Sadly, each agency has a different name here. Don't panic yet, so we will talk about this later. 10. DOWNLOAD My Template: I've been improving and updating my CSP template on Google Drive for six years already. To be sure you get the latest version of it. The best way is to access it through Google Drive. I made a shortcut to access it using the following link Creative income slash C S B To use it on your own Google drive account, click in file, make a copy, then choose a name and save it. This fire will always be online, and you can edit it whenever and however you want. If you're using Excel, you can no loan it. Clicking on file download. As Microsoft Excel on Excel, you have to be sure you're going to break up this file every time that you update it. Once you have your copay done, you can start adding this. Let me show the way around. Riding keywords and metadata is far from being the most fun part of this job. That's why you should do it in last time. It's possible I found out that organizing my 1000 batches and uploading them all at once significantly decreases the time I spend doing this. That means I don't have blowed each file right after I shoot it, I let them accumulate inside a photo to then work on them all as a group. So I great export upload and take them all at once. It doesn't really matter how frequently you do it. I started doing one week per year. Now I do it every couple of months. You might do it once a week. It's totally up to you. My sees the fire reflects that, too. You can have one sees Vapor batch or create a column to name each batch. Remember when I said the only required row in your CSB follow is the one with your file names? That means the filing column should match the actual file names. Flawless. It should be the exact same name, and that includes the extension of her father. And that's really easy to be done. All you have to do is to select all files that match Kofi them, and I'll pays them into your spreadsheet. Data will be automatically converted into text works on BC's and necks. Just be sure not to change your found names after doing this. That's why I prefer to do this. After I already uploaded them riding keywords is the next step. I prefer to work on them before writing the description. I showed this before. I like doing these using a keyword suggestion to, such as Cheddar stocks or the one in expects or stuck So meter. If you can place the five most, well, even keywords at the beginning, Adobe Stock takes that into consideration. Now that I got 22 50 keywords, I will have fresh insights and words to write my descriptions. I tried to repeat the relevant wants to get better rankings on search results. I still couldn't find a decent solution for categories because they are all different among agencies and the city. Options will be only applied if they match the actual opens. You can still at this column if you want to. The last page of the spreadsheet has a category names off most agencies 11. Keeping Track of Your Uploads: I use the columns in the right to keep track of the status off each file on each agency. I use offline to take those files that weren't yet uploaded to an agency upload. It means a file WAAS uploaded but didn't get meta data yet. Submitted means a file is currently being revealed by the agency. There's nothing that I have to do. Approved Means approved File is available for sale. Hard rejected our fouls that just have no chance of being accepted. I still keep it on the list cause it might be different with other agencies. Soft rejected is how I, my father, were refused but can be send again after adjustments. I usually right click and insert note to keep track off what modifications I need it. 12. How to Upload a CSV: Sadly, each stock agency has different standards for CSB file, so there is no and universal cuz template accepted by all agencies, and this is what makes everything so complicated. For example, each micro stock agency has its own list of categories, all with different names. Share stock accepts two categories. Profile. Phone five has many optional fields like pricing and also differentiates title from description. And the worst of all is that each agency requires different words on the first roll off her CSP, so we'll have to prepare a differences we file for each agency. I will show the principles for how to have it done for every agency that could ever exist. But I also understand if you decide to stop here, starting your metadata inside a spreadsheet is already a good deal, and it's useful for organization means even if you decide not to apply it as a Series V inside stock agencies, in the end, you can simply copy and paste infer from the spreadsheet to the stock Agency website. But if you want to learn how to apply, CSB filed to write metadata on a massive number of files, then stick with me now that you've got your central stretchered with metadata for all or a batch of files, it's time to apply to stock agencies. You don't want to mess with your main shit. This is precious information. That's why we're going to work the CSB file on a different sheet very well. Adapted to the stock agency, you are uploading to the secret. Here is the first roll, the upper line. It has to be exactly as the first line off the agency template. This is what guarantees that the agency is going to be able to read your file. Many of these templates already included in MY But You can also get it by downloading the CSB example from which one of them they're normally in the upload section of each agency. Let's use Pawn five as an example. The file name column should actually be named original file name altogether. With no spaces, there is a title and a description column. I only have description, so I will simply call me what is in description. There's also price color. You can leave it empty and added in the agency website or added, Now I will put 59 for all of them in this example. To avoid system reading errors, keep the sheet as clean as possible. You don't need information for every single property. There's no problem leaving them empty. If you are applying CSB for a second or third time, keep on Lee the columns with the properties you really want to apply. And also the lead the lines representing files that don't need any change. The only required column is the finally now that you're table is clean and ready to be uploaded exported to see SV in Google drive, you do it by clicking on file download as CSP. It will only don't know the pager currently, really, and now had to shutter stock up on five of the stock or whatever it agency you're submitting it to and search for the apply C s feet. But this will only work if the files are already uploaded. That that means those files which you want to this CSP to be applied and it's done. If everything is right, your data should now be automatically applied to its correspondent files. It's really common to get errors during this process so you can try to delete some columns you can clean any formatting. You can export it again compared to the agency. See SV Example, etcetera. I'm sure you're going to figure dissolved. This is quite a complex desk and I won't be able to exist, all of you. But feel free to write their questions in the Facebook group. Me and other students will do our best to help. 13. Non-English Keywords: This is a simple and quick tip for cases in which your subject is connected to non English words. Although English is the only official language and struck agencies in some specific cases, it might be a good idea to add a few words of different languages. Sure, the stock has the ability to translate most words and searches, and we'll try to stop you from riding known English words. But when it comes internationally, locations or food traditions and objects or anything that doesn't really translate to English, the best thing is to simply put it there as it is. And that's because you want to be sure that your files are going to be there in the results . If someone searches for these words, if a specific city has a different spelling in the original language and in English, you should definitely put both words the best way to check if Shutter stock understands a translation is by searching for the English and non English words and see if the results and the number of results are similar in both searches, car and car, who have very similar results. So it definitely knows that they are the same thing since I am a Brazilian. I noticed a few examples that made me edge. Park Draghi's words. When I'm working with Brazilian content, for example, carnival and Carnival, Amazon and Amazonia, Iwatsu falls and falls to go sue even Brazil. And because you, with the little difference of one single letter, they have different results. So in this case, is I will always put both keywords the English one and the Portuguese or whatever language working with the uploading platform, my terrier that they don't recognize it works. All you have to do is click on it and infirm them that the word is correct. You never know how many new sales this might bring to you. 14. Write Metadata on JPGs: If you work with stock photos only you have the enormous advantage of writing metadata right inside Shape X files themselves. That means you don't need to start descriptions and keywords anywhere else, because some problems are able to insert it into the J pic file, and once you upload it to the agency, it will automatically recognize that information and apply to the right fields. This, of course, will on Lee work for description and keywords feels like a T Guerry editorial. It's Sarah. We'll need manual input, but this will definitely save a lot of time. Almost every image editor like Adobe Illustrator, for example, we'll let you write tax and descriptions when you are editing and file. But personally, my favorite method is expects a software made especially to help start contributors to a bloat files to multiple agencies at once. On You can Find It Here and ex speaks up dot com. Some of the reasons why I like it is it is open source, so it's completely free and should always be. It is also cross platform, so it's going to be it's going to work on Macintosh is on Windows and even Lennox. But the thing that I like the most about it is the key word presets, and that is going to save way more time than you imagine. So it's cross platform. As I said, it has an FTP upload built in. It's an actively client, so I can send it straight to the stock agencies. You can add it all the metadata. As I said, there is another complete two under music that much a suggestion. He were a keyword subjection tool, which is all some and very useful. It's just like the ones from shutter stock. I'm going to show you in a few minutes and requirements check unused that much and spelling . It's very easy to use and works with, most off the stock agencies. Actually, all the agencies that support FTP are going toe work with this. Okay, so let me show a little off how the software works. Um, this is going to be the interface that you're going to find after you download and install it. It's way easier to use than stocks of meter. Well, let me show the way around how I m going to do one image so you can check how I do it and with me, so I can add a whole folder or at individual files. Just what I'm going to do now. I'm going to add this for files for images here. And once you imparted this files, there are two ways that you can look at them. You can see it in this least way so you can see a small time nail and all the information here. But you can also change it to the great way on. This is this way. You still have to go press this button and click on Add it. You can even see that in some cases it is going to import the metadata that is already into the file so you can add it. The metadata that is already there. Let's say you work on it using light room, which gives you the ability to write metadata. It works well, but not as good as expect. So I don't suggest that, and later you're going to see how the matter data is actually saved into the image files. It's not a separate file. You can generate a series with CSB file, but the metadata is all inside the J pick that's the all something is that the files are coming with the metadata in sight. It's not a separate file. The J Peg is coming with the metadata insides. So now let's work in one of them. As an example, I'm going to pick this one. It is an editorial file, so I'm going to write. It sort of captures right here, So the first thing that you probably have seen is that it lets you know which words it thinks it's wrong. So it has this spell checker, and sometimes you're going to write words that it won't recognize, so you can just ignore it or right click it and edited dictionary. You don't have to be paranoid about it because there's no problem if you send a wrong word or it's not on the dictionary. This is something this is just a tool. So don't mind if all the words are not perfect. So it's not a problem at all. Okay, now let's go to the keywords Expects has a beauty in keywords, Suggestion, tool, And it works just like the orders I showed you before, so you can click here in the suggest keywords, and it's going to open this to over here. So what you're going to do here is to search for similar images and select them and extract the keywords from them. In this case, I didn't find an image like this one, which would be New Year on Come With You, which is the name of the city. So what? I'm going to search first for New Year at a beach. So I'm going to search for New Year in you, Janita. And then later I'm going to search for keywords related to that city to that specific city . So I will pick Singler images, I think, for our enough. So the key words here going to appear according to the images that you have selected, you can remove the unrelated keyword here, for example, Independence, because this is definitely not the Fourth of July. So let's be sure that, and you can add other ones over here and I click on add suggested, and this key words are going to be at it right back there. I'm going to search for this CD, and I will get the keyword that are related to that specific please. So I'm going to remove the ones that are not that connected. Okay, now that I have finished adding the keywords, I'm going back to the previous screen and usually the most repeated keywords will come first, that it's perfect for Adobe Stock. But sometimes we're going to have to organize that. Okay, now let's go to the magic and let's save the work that we have just done. So you're going to sell. Liked all the files that you want to save. Let's say I am already done with this three ones over here and you're going to click on this bedroom here, which is the safe bottom. It's an icon for downloading, but anyway, weaken it and click on Start Export. And here's what happened. I know it looks like nothing happened, but you actually just wrote all the matter data into those images. So when you upload them to the agencies, the metadata will be imparted together. This means that you can also save this files. You can keep them inside an HD or something like that, and they will contain all the info you need for future uploads on new agency sexy. So for image files, all that you need to do is to upload them to the agencies, and the metadata will be imported together. If you are on American Touch system, you can simply right click the file and click on get info, and here you'll be able to check that all the keywords and all the melodia is really reading into the file. This is the exact same information that is going to be read by the stock. Agencies Want to upload it for videos? It's still not that simple. And I check that with expects. And they said that the M. O. V and M before formance have a metadata that can be added it so easily. So you are going to still have to work with CS V files, and you can do that using expects to. I will show how to do that in a minute. OK, but Expects also has a beauty and FTP client, and that allows you to upload your files to stock agency straight from the softer. You can use the upload berm to do that, which is this one here with the call out, you just click on it. Just be sure that you have selected all the files that you want to a bloat. Click on it. And here in this window, you can add all the agencies that you work with. All you need is the after Pekar. Dangerous to do so in most Asian systems will be the same email and password that you use to access the contributor page, and that's going to be the case on shutter stock on 0.5, you will need and user name. It's not the email, it's the user name and then ftp password that you have to set in the a blow page on Adobe Stock. You were going to get random credentials and that they're going to change from time to time , but you can get it there in the learn more session in the FTP area. Just go to the upload area and you're going to find it easily. Alami uses the same email and the password I stock for a change. They don't work with FTP, so forget about using expects if your work with I stuck or Getty images. But in the end, every agency makes it very clear what information we're going to need. If you want to upload to FTP, you just have to go to their upload page and you're going to find all the information there , and you can be sure that your credentials will be stored on your computer so expects doesn't have access to them. Let's do an upload. You can use this test connection, but I'm over here, and if this point you get screened, it means that it is working. So after you add all the agencies that you work, too, you can simply select the ones you want it to be uploaded. In this case, let's say I just want to blow them to shutter stock and to Adobe stuck. And then he'd start upload. You're going to see how the status days and how it is working over there. And after a few minutes, or maybe even seconds, you are going to be that all your files will be uploaded to the agency with their matter. Data insight. That doesn't mean the work is done, because you still have to access each agency and submit the files In some of them. You have to write extra, require metadata like categories that is a down side of expects because on stocks a meter, you can submit your files right inside the softer. Now let's talk about the CSP. Expects also lets you export one, since expects can write your metadata into the image files. Assist file won't be so much neccessary when it comes to photos. But for videos, it is the best way to save an expert. Your meditator work in both ways. This is useful. If you want to keep all your metadata organized in one place and to do that you're going to select all the files. Once again, click here on this street audit. I come then expert to see its V in this window, you will be able to create multiple presets. And you can say what name you want for each column in the left, right here. So let's say in this shutter stock video preset, I want the column names to be named file name description, get agrees, editorial. So I'm following the requirements off shutter stock right here and here in the right. You're going to pick what properties you want to be added on each color. You can export as many times as you want and tested to see if everything is working out well and want to heat to start. Expert, The CSB will be generated to the folder of your choice and you're done. Okay, I This is expects. I hope this is very useful to you as it is for me and see you in the next lesson. 15. Keywords Presets: Okay, So one amazing feature of expects is the key word percentage, too. And that means that you can apply a group of keywords that you have created before. This is just a small example, but you can create presets for it. Any cities, you can create presets for lighting settings, and you can even create presets for topics. So if you ever identify group of keywords that repeat, you can create a preset for them. This is going to save you. Ah, lot of time. Because this way you don't have to keep riding them or keep doing this keyword suggestion to searches all the time. So I really suggest that you create your own presets and keep developing them. This is going to save a lot of time in the long run to create a new preset. You just have to click on the added menu, then presets. So the name of the presets that they're going to create will be here on the laughs, and you can create anyone clicking here in and new and then hearing the writer going to add all the keywords that are related to that preset 16. Find a Curator: think about this the same way you may feel more comfortable shooting if your camera someone else, Maybe better riding keywords and matter data. Of course, this comes at a cost. It's a standard of the market to give 20% of the profits to someone who rides the matter Data for your fives and footage. Contributors can do this easily through black box. The platform has the ability to set shares for different users. The biggest advantage is that neither you or decorator will be responsible for splitting the profits and making the payment to each other. Black box disproves the earnings to each one's PayPal account automatically according to the shares each one has over that specific file. Black Box is not available for photography, but you can still enter their Facebook group, the Search for Available Creators. The only problem is that you and the Creator will have to trust each other and plan how to do the payment between you. Many creators doom or in key wording. They can also added your footage. The standard is 20% for metadata on Lee, For creators that Onley right the metadata and 40% for full creation. These are the creators are going to add its color great and also right, Manatee 17. The Lazy Strategy: we learned about a lot of fruits. Now I will teach you how to break them. Because, let's face it, you won't make much money off a small portfolio. You can Onley get serious earnings if you have a serious work. That means constantly uploading new content and costly improving your quality. In my case, as a footage contributor, I earn an average off $4.90 per clip for a year for pictures. I know it is even smaller. Most photographers make last and $1 per photo per year. But of course, photos are easier to add it and upload. One more effect to keep in mind is that most of her files won't ever get a sale, then gets carried. That is just the nature of things. It's more common to have a best seller with multiple dollars than many files with $1. In my case, only 13% of my portfolio made at least one sale, and that's why it's so important to be quick when you're doing metadata. You don't want to lose too much time with files that might never get sold. So in this lesson, I want to give you some tips to be quicker and more efficient in your matter data creation . There's no magic way to do this, but I believe the steps will be useful. Tip number one. But first, a disclosure. This is very personal and work perfectly with me, especially because I don't have much time to work on metadata, and most of times I like the motivation to do it. But it might be different for you, so don't take this as a commandment. This is just an idea off how you can work. I don't have already spoken about how important it is to write your metadata carefully. In fact, if you have the patient in time, that's what you should, too. But most of the times you don't. And that's why I believe the phrase Done is better than perfect. Applies pretty well here. I found this personally when I realized how many photos I had pinning up in my computer already added it. They were just waiting for matter data to be submitted, and this made me change my mind set. Instead of losing money, waiting for the time and the motivation to write Matadi, I started some meeting them with much less perfectionism. After all, who can always added your submitted files later, and this became my favorite thing. So meaning filed with keywords that are far from perfect. After a couple of months or more, I take a look at which files sold better and then work on better matter data for them. As I said, around 80% of her files will ever make sales. This is a way to find out which are the 20% fouls that will sell and focus on them only. Hey, once again, this is just my way of doing this. And if you have the time, the best thing to do is write decent metadata for all of your files. I also don't do this all the time. When I had the feeling that I file is going to be among my best sellers. I write the best man today I can from the start. Also, keep in mind that the first meeting your files through an agent like Black Box, it will be a little harder to edit your files. If you are submitting toe one single agency, you can also make use of the automatic he words that some agencies generate. So far, I have seen this work pretty well in cheddar stock and adobe stock. Most of times, their automatic keywords are pretty close to what I would do. Applying keywords and batches is another good idea. Let's say you have a bigger number off files that are related to the same subject or contain the same motto. For example, in this case, you can surely get a group of keywords that can be applied for. Most of these files, for example, is the model men, then at keywords like male men. What is his age? Then you can use keywords like boy, teen, teenager, young youth, senior old. You can also ask yourself, What is his ethnicity? Use Caucasian, adding Afro after American European, It's era. This is good when you're working with the same model all the time around. The same scenario are on the same topic. You can use this group of keywords multiple times. One thing that I'm developing for myself is a bunch of presets inside expects. They're very easy to be created and even easier to be a plight. You can create a pre set off your keywords according to your model your scenario, a specific topic, lighting everything. If you think there is a group of keywords that might appear again in the future, then might be a good idea to create a preset for them. And here's one more lazy and very personal. You don't need to do this to some agencies have both title and description fields. I personally think it's a waste of time to write both, So I just copy and paste it in. This case is some people will also tell you that you need to be careful not to repeat the word in the description and keywords. This is just a theory, and I haven't seen this being proved yet because if you just read a little bit about how Google search engine works, you'll realize that repeating a word wisely. Of course, it's on Lee going to show how relevant your content ease, and that's why I always do my keywords first and then select the ones I think are the most relevant. These ones. I use them again in the description, and don't worry about riding a perfect description. It actually doesn't have to make perfect sense. Just describe what is going on in your photo or for you and these were my tips. I would love to hear from you. What are your favorite wants? And also, if you do it differently, let's use the Facebook group to discuss it. 18. Thanks!: Hey, guys, Thank you so much for enrolling this class. It was a big opportunity for me.
