About This Class

           Here I will teach you step by step how to solve the Rubik's cube as fast as possible. Keep in mind, this course is made to be a little fast-paced but I believe that based on my experience as a teacher, this course should be quite easy to understand. I do have another course that will explain these principals in greater detail in the event that you need the clarification. That course is called "The ULTIMATE Guide to Solve the Rubik's Cube". This is a fun course and an amazing hobby with many people in this field that compete. Please enjoy this course to the fullest and I look forward to hearing from you in the class project. 1. Introduction: welcome my course on how to solve the room. Excuse. My name is Byron. I've been solving Rubik's cubes for about the last 11 years or so. And within that time I've taught well over 300 people How to solve this crazy thing. Now, if you clicked on this video, you're probably interested in learning how to solve this. And that's exactly what this courses for. If you want to learn how to solve this Cube, then this course has only about 30 minutes of video. So that way you can learn how to solve this. Now it's going to be a little bit easier than you think. I think you're gonna really enjoy this. So with that being said, let's get started. 2. Cube Notation: really quick before we get started here. I just want let you guys know that this Matt the Cube, anything that I use and recommend in my videos for this course is going to be in the course description. So you guys can follow those Amazon affiliate links and pick some of the stuff up for yourself anywhere from this top tier cube all the way down to more budget friendly cubes for maybe the beginning solver. So definitely take a look at those now. Let's get into it. The first thing that you're gonna wanna learn is called cube notation with Cuba notation that basically just means where and what direction to turn each side. So, for instance, the yellow side is called my up face or my you face. What I'm directly facing is called the F face. The right side is are the left side is left. The D or downside is what that one's called, and then you have be for back. Now, if you want to turn a face clockwise, it'll be denoted with a capital letter. So, like, let's say I wanted to do a U. That would mean the up face or upper face should be turned clockwise. Same thing for the F face faces What's directly in front of you. You will turn that clockwise as well are I will be right side clockwise. L will be left side clockwise. Now You can also denote the other direction by putting a capital letter with a tick mark next to it. And that basically means counterclockwise. So the opposite of what you just learned. So a you prime is what they would call it or you inverted or up inverted. People call it different things. That would mean you're gonna turn the top face counterclockwise, and then you're gonna turn the front face. If it's an f prime counterclockwise. Same thing. Our prime counterclockwise l prime counterclockwise. Same thing. That's the basic gist. If you wanted to do a down face, you would look at the bottom in turn it clockwise or d prime would be counter clockwise. Now that's the basics of keep notations that way. You know how to read and understand algorithms, and you're gonna learn those in the future Videos 3. Cube Anatomy: So now that you understand cube notation, we're gonna be covering the basic anatomy of the Cube. Now, when it comes to the Cube, there are three main parts. There's the centers, the edges. And then there is the corners. Centers are always going to be in the same position in relationship to each other. So the yellow, green and red or it here, it doesn't matter what I do to this cube. I can have it as mixed up as I want. I'm just doing a random algorithm. They were always be the same. So, for instance, I still have yellow, green and red it They're always gonna be in the same position relative to each other. So now that you understand that we're gonna look at edges, edges are going to be here, Here, here and here. They're going to be four different positions on every side and an edge has two colors. You have one color here in another color on the side, and then you have corners. Corners will be here, there, there and there. Corners can only occupy corner positions, and edges can only occupy edge positions. Corners will have three sides versus edges only. have having to. So now that you understand that if you have a scrambled cube and you're looking for a side to solve, let's say you want to solve the red side. You're gonna look for the red centre that tells you when the Cuba solved that whole side will be read. Now that you understand, the basic anatomy of the Cube will get to solving it. 4. Fundamentals of the Cross: So when you first decided to start solving the cube, the first thing you're gonna look for is a side to solve. For instance, I would solve green, so I would look for the green center and then you're gonna start off by making across on that side where that crosses only consisting of four edges and one centerpiece, and that's it. So when you run into this situation, this is kind of the goal you're looking for. Now you have to make this same color cross here, but it's just is important for these side colors tow line up to because an edge has two colors. Let's say the side you're solving for which I'm solving for green would be my primary color . And then whatever color is attached to is considered the secondary color. That secondary color must match the center of the side. It lies on. So, for instance, this even though I have across, so even though I have across right here, it's not finished. I actually have to have this lined up to you might have situation where these line up like green, green, yellow, yellow, green, green, red, red. But then these don't and these don't. So you're just gonna have to make those match the way I like to do it. I will bring this piece down to the bottom, move it over to the correct side, orange and orange, and move it to the top. Now, I have this piece that used to move over, and I'm gonna move that to the top. So I'll give you guys an example on exactly how I go about making my cross. It may take you practice to get to this step, but it will pay off in time. There's gonna be one special case you might run into, and I'm gonna cover that in just a second. 5. Building the Cross: So let's say that I got a scrambled cube and let's say I'm going to start solving the white side, so I'm gonna find the White Center. First thing I'm gonna do is look in these four edge areas for anything that's white, which there is nuts. Now I'm just gonna find a white edge. Now, remember, corners we do not care about at the moment we're just looking for edges. So with edges, I found one. I'm gonna make the white go up like this. Now I have to make sure that this side color also matches. It's a Greenpeace. It belongs on the green side. Someone's gonna move it over Now I have that peace now, Once this is together, I'm not gonna want to break my cross by turning it like this, cause that'll break that. And I'm not gonna want to turn it like this, cause that'll break that as well. So we're gonna look for another piece, which I found one here. Now I could bring this straight up, but these don't match. It's supposed to be over here, So what I like to do is always move the piece down to the bottom layer and move it over to the correct side and then bring it back up to the top. There you go. Now, let's find another piece, which here we have the white and red. The red is all ready, matching the red side. So if I just make the white go up there, I got that one done. So last piece is white and orange. So with this one, it belongs over here. That's the last spot it could be. Now, I would have to bring this down to the bottom to get it over there, or I could do something like that. But that's a little advanced, so I'm gonna bring it to the bottom. And in doing so, I'm gonna break my cross like this. So this piece is so this piece is gonna come down here, and then I'm gonna break my cross right here. So now that peace is here, I'm just gonna move it out of the way, and I'm gonna fix my cross, and then I'm going to line up my edge and I'm gonna bring it to the top. And there you go. Now you might run into a situation like this where you're trying to build your cross and you find you have the piece in the correct position. But it's not in the right spot. You have to flip it over in order for it to be fixed. When you run into this, you're gonna hold it like this is going to your first algorithm. You're going to perform a f prime. You l prime you prime. That will keep the rest of your cross exactly the way you had it. And it'll just flip that edge and then you can move on with the rest. Once you have achieved all four edge pieces of your cross are all lined up, then we can move on to the next step. 6. Corners: now we're gonna be taking care of the corners Corners is gonna be the finishing layer or the finishing the final step to finish this layer off. So what going to do is you're gonna hold the cross on the top like this, and you're gonna look somewhere in this bottom area in the use four positions and you're gonna find a corner that has white or whatever color you're solving for that's on it. So, for instance, this one is a good example. And here I have green and orange as my secondary colors of that of that corner. So you're gonna make sure that this corner is in between the green and the orange side. It doesn't matter which way this corner is flipped or where the white is facing. As long as this entire corner is physically in between those two colors, now you're gonna learn your next algorithm is very easy. You're gonna hold it on your right hand side, and you're gonna perform this algorithm is gonna be our prime de prime are de and you're gonna repeat that until that corner is solved right here in this position, So be our prime d prime R D r Prime d prime r D our prime d prime r d Now even though white and is matching right here, this is not matching. And that is not matching, and they have to match all the way around. So we're gonna continue our prime d prime r d. There it is. We have white, white, orange, orange and green green. So we got this one done, and we're going to repeat the same thing for the other corners. So, for example, this one is red and green. I'm gonna position it between the red and green side. Hold on my right hand side And I'm just gonna repeat that algorithm until that corner is solved. That one's done. This one is red and blue, so I place it in between the red and blue side. So I'm just gonna hold it in my right hand side. I'm gonna perform that algorithm again. That one's done. And now I see this one is blue and orange blue orange places in between and I'm gonna perform algorithm again. And there you go. This is what a completed first layer should look like. Just like that, all matching colors. You don't have anything weird. That's exactly what it should look like. Now, you may run into a situation like this. I'm just sitting up a case. All right, All right. Let's do this. So you may run into a situation like this where clearly your layer is not solved, but you look in the bottom layer and there is no white corners. That means you have to locate a corner in the top layer. That is not that does not belong where it's at. So, for example, this corner is white, matching orange matching and green matching. This corner belongs there. However, this one white matches, but those don't and that does not. So this corner does not belong. When you find a corn that doesn't belong there, perform your algorithm one time our prime d prime r D, and that will kick that corner out to the bottom layer where it is usable, and you can continue to solve your corners 7. Middle Layer: once your first layer is completed and looks exactly like this, you're going to actually turn the whole thing upside down. What we're gonna be doing now is the middle layer. We're gonna be solving these four edge pieces in the middle layer. First thing you want to dio look at the center color at the top side. Now, in my example, it's yellow. So I'm going to be looking in these four areas and the edge areas of this side for a piece that does not have yellow on the top or the side. So, for example, this one has yellow on top. I can't use that piece, and this one has yellow on the side. I can't use that piece either, So I'm gonna find one that doesn't have yellow. For example, this one. Once you find your peace, you're going to line up the side color with the center. So, for example, this is orange and it's on the red side and you bring it to the orange site so I can simply just rotate this until it lines up. Now I'm going to see the top color is blue on this piece, and I'm gonna see If blue matches the left side or the right side of that piece here, it matches the right side. So when you have to move this piece to the right and this album's gonna basically take this piece and put it right in here to solve this section when you have to go to the right hand side, you're going to perform this algorithm You are you prime our prime, you prime f prime u f and that will solve that section of the cube right there. Now you will simply repeat the same thing. Look in the top layer for an area for a edge that does not have yellow or whatever center color you're solving or your whatever that color is that you're working on. So now here, this one is a good candidate I see green on the side of So I'm gonna line it up with the green. It belongs to the right. So we're gonna perform the same algorithm. You Are you prime our prime. You prime f prime u f that will take care of that. Now we have this one. It's already lined up. Belongs to the right hand side. Same algorithm. You are you prime? Our prime new prime f prime U f done. Now we find this one. It's already lined up, so this is pretty easy. It belongs to the left side this time. Now you're just gonna do the exact same algorithm. You're gonna mirror it to the left. The algorithm will look like this. You prime l prime you. L you f you prime f prime. Now, once you have completed this, you have your second layer done. However, there is a special case that may look something similar to this where clearly your middle layer is not done. However, you look at the top layer, there's yellow, their yellow, their yellow there and yellow there you have no pieces to work with. So how do you fix this? Locate an edge in the middle layer that needs to be replaced. Or that an edge that's not in the right spot. So, for instance, this one does belong there, but it needs to be flipped. When you run into this situation and you find an edge that needs to be flipped or it's not in the right spot at all, you need to kick it out into the top layer first in order to work with it, The best way to go about this I would hold that edge on your right hand side and then perform the same algorithm you would to move the peace to the right. It doesn't matter which one of these pieces you have in front of you just perform the album like you normally would. Once the algorithm is completed looking the top layer in these ads locations and you will find that piece that you just kicked out. You're going to simply perform the same algorithm to move that one over. And there you go. Second layer is complete. 8. Top Cross: Now we're getting really close to finishing off the Cube. You guys are doing really good. So this is going to be the final layer. This couple steps involved in this step in this layer, but it's not too difficult. So when you finish your 1st 2 layers, you're going to be presented with one of four different patterns that this sign may show you. Now I'm specifically talking in my case, I solve white first. So I have yellow toe work with and we're looking at the patterns that yellow will give you yellow is going to give you either a dot case similar to this. It may not look exactly like this, but you're gonna see the other cases you might get. And this is based a basic dot case. You will get a backwards l something similar like this. It will be a backwards L in your top left corner. This corner may or may not be yellow or and same with this one, but keep in mind right now, corners do not matter. We're just looking at edges right now. So a backwards Ellen, your back left corner, you may get a line or a cross The goal here is to receive this cross. We're trying to get to this cross first, so I'm gonna show you the algorithm you have to use and how you have to hold each case in order to get to that cross. So let's say you start with the dot The dot case can be held in any position that you want as long as it's on top. The algorithm for this and all these cases is going to be f Are you our prime? You prime f prime. Now we're gonna be presented with the backwards l and you're going to hold it just like this. We're gonna perform the same algorithm f are you far prime, You prime f prime. Now we're presented with a line case. We're gonna hold it from hand to hand. If you go like this and you perform that same algorithm, we're gonna go back to the dot case you're gonna start over. So we're gonna be doing is from here. Make sure the lines going from hand to hand we're gonna go f Are you far prime? You prime f prime The exact same algorithm that we did from the dot case to the backwards Ellen from the backwards L to the line. It's the same algorithm to get to this cross position. Now that we have the cross, it's going to be much easier from here on out. We're getting really close to solving the Cube. 9. Aligning the Cross: Now that you have your top cross and your 1st 2 layers taking care of, we're going to actually align our top. Cross the top cross. Yes, you have it. You have it there. However, like in the beginning, when we solved our first side. The secondary colors also have to match. So here we have our primary cross and we have to make sure it is yellow, yellow, orange, orange, which is good. Yellow, yellow, blue, blue. Good Yellow, yellow, green, red. That's that's not good. And yellow, Yellow, red, green. That's not good either. So you're always going to have at least two at least two edges of your cross that line up. They may be next to each other just like this, or they may be across from each other. And I'm gonna be addressing both cases for you. In this case, we're going to start where they line up on the side. Now, you may start with something like this. We're only one lines up. All you have to do is turn the top layer and look around again and then turn it again and look around again. Eventually, you will find at least two that lineup. When you find two next to each other lot lineup, you're gonna hold one side in your right hand side, the other one that lines up will be in the back. This algorithm is going to take these two edges and switch them. But keeping your cross across the algorithm goes like this. Are you our prime? You are you too. And you to just means turning this topside twice. 90 degrees, two times our prime. You that's it. Now you have your cross still there. But now all sides of your cross lineup and you're done with this step. However, there is a case you may run into where they are across from each other. And I'm gonna be showing you guys that case. So if you run into the case where it is across from each other, just like this, that does not match. That doesn't match. But this one does. And that one does. They're gonna hold one in front of you and you're gonna hold the other one away from you. You're gonna perform the same algorithm that you I just taught you a second ago. So it will be our you, our prime. You are you too? Our prime. Now, instead of doing that final, you you're gonna leave it there and you're gonna notice that to line up right next to each other. And the other two do not your back in the same position that you were before. All you're gonna do is repeat the same steps. Hold one side in your right hand side and hold one side in the back and you're gonna perform the same algorithm. Are you our prime? You are You too. Our prime. You. And there you go. The crosses lined up and you are ready for the second to last step. The last one is extremely easy, and it's actually something you already know. So let's knock this out. 10. Orienting your Corners: So once you got your cross taking care of and it's all lined up, first thing we're gonna be doing is finding a corner that's in the right spot but not flip the right way or solved that. We're looking for either of those two states. You know, if a corner is in the right spot because the three colors that are on that corner will match the three colors in that area. So, for example, we have red, yellow and blue, and we have red, yellow and blue. This corner is in the right spot. But let's look at this one. We have green, yellow and orange, and we have yellow, orange and blue. That one doesn't belong there. Same thing for this one and same thing for this one. So once you locate one that's either solved or in the right spot and not flip the right way , you're gonna hold that corner on your right hand side in front of you just like this. And then you're gonna direct your attention to this corner and ask yourself, Is this corner in the right spot and not flip the right way? Now keep in mind there is a special case where you may not find a corner in the right spot at all. And I will address that in just a moment. So just stick stick with me for now. So this one is not in the right spot. That means that you have to perform this algorithm. The algorithm will start with the correct corner in your right hand side, just like this. And you're going to do a U Are you prime? L prime you our prime, You prime l and you're going to immediately look at this corner again. If this corner is not solved or in the right spot and not flip the right way, you're going to repeat the algorithm again. So it's not in the right spot. So we're gonna do it again. You Are you prime? L prime you our prime, You prime! No, Look at this corner again. Now it's in the right spot. We have yellow, blue, orange, and we have yellow, blue, orange, that ones in the right spot and we're ready for the next step. However, I'm going to set up a case for you where there is no corner that's in the right spot. So for instance that's not in the right spot. That's not in the right spot. That one's not and either, is that so when you run into this situation, you're gonna perform that same algorithm on any side that she want as long as your final layer is on top. So I'm just gonna pick anything and I'm gonna do my algorithm. You are view Prime L prime. You are prime, You prime l Now I'm going to look for a corner that is in the right spot or solved. That's not, but that one is. And we're gonna follow the same steps as before. That ones in the right spot. Let me check this corner. It's not in the right spot. So I'm gonna perform the algorithm again, and I'm gonna check my corner again. Still not in the right spot. So I'm gonna do the algorithm again. Now it's solved. So now this part is done, we're on to the final step 11. The Final Step: all right. The final step is here. This one's going to be very, very easy. It's something you already know. So when you are done and you are at this position where both corners or you may have all four corners are already in the right spot and not flip the right way, you are going to either have two corners, three corners or four corners that are in that state. You will not only have one. If your cube looks something like this where everything is solved, but one corner that is called an impossible salt, you will not be able to solve that. That means that someone at some point has disassembled the cube or has flipped a corner or something like that. And it is impossible to solve in that state, and you have to take it apart or just flip the corner. If your key was capable of doing that, please keep in mind. Not all cubes can do this, so just keep in mind with that now you are going to probably be in a state similar to this and as long as both corners or in the right spot, and not flip the right way you're going to pick on Lee a corner that is in the right spot and not flip the right way. If it's solved, you leave it alone for this step, you just focus on one of these ones that are not in not flip the right way. So we're gonna do the very first corner algorithm that we learned. And you're going to continue this until the corner solves itself. Keeping keeping in mind, we're going toe use this in this algorithm in exactly four moves. So you can't do any shortcuts here. Really? And here's what I mean, So we're gonna start off with this. Hold one of these corners in your front, right similar to this, and we're going to do the algorithm. Our prime de prime are de That's four moves. We have to do this algorithm in the segment of four moves, so we're gonna do it again. Our prime d prime r d. Now, every time we do it, we're gonna check to see if that corner is solved, and it's not yet. So we're gonna continue if our prime d prime r D still not solved, we're gonna do it again. Our prime d Prime are now it's solved and we have to do that Final de. If we don't do that, move Even though that corner solved when you go to finish off the rest of the corners, you're gonna start all the way over. So make sure you do that final move, and now the corner solved. You're gonna make sure you continue to look at this side and you're gonna move. The next corner might be the next one over, or whatever one is messed up that you have to fix, remember, solved ones we just ignore. So this is my only other messed up corner. So I'm going to move the top layer over to this position. Keep in mind you're not rotating the Cube over to that corner. You bring the corner to you. Now we have it here. We're going to continue the same algorithm. Our prime d prime r D. It's not solved. Our prime d prime are de and it's solved. And there you go. That solves the Rubik's Cube. Well, I hope you guys had fun in this course. It was definitely a pleasure teaching it. It was a little bit more fast paced if this was a little too fast for you. I do have a course that is much, much slower paced. And instead of just lasting a few minutes, actually a two hour course, I go into extreme detail on every single aspect of solving the cube. And I do many example solves as well. So that way things make a little bit more sense for you. But this is more of a down and dirty version. I hope this was able to help you guys.
