About This Class

In this class, you will learn to draw shiny bangs and straight hair with graphite pencils.

Drawing hair is the most difficult part of the portrait to many people. In this class, I will show you that it can be achieved easily.

If you ever wanted to draw realistic hair with pencils, but it didn't come out as you wanted, this is the Class for you. You just need a graphite pencil, a blending stump, an eraser, and a high-quality paper.




1. Intro: 2. Lesson #1: How to Draw Bangs + Tools: Hi jasmine here. Thank you so much for joining me. I will be using this paper by Fabriano Bristol. And I do this brief fast, but you just take your time and draw strokes by stroke BY stroke patiently. Okay, so the next thing is to draw the strokes starting from the bottom of the banks and towards the highlights like this in this image you can see the arrows. And so this is the guide that we have to use for when drawing the strokes. So you can see in the middle there straight and then they have to be more and more curve. Also, we draw them towards the left and right sides. Here we will have highlight like this. So let's do it. And let's draw the strokes that start from the bottom of the banks and doors to highlight. And I'm just apply a bit more or to highlight because it's still seems to be too light. And I'm using an HB now because it's much lighter pencil. So I don't want to make too dark and the highlight too much. And I don't want to call it completely or to make some strokes at random as a contamination to 6B. And of course every time I I reached the highlight, a liftoff, the lead of the parental. So now as we draw the stroke stores derived side, we have to draw them more curved. And of course longer, longer and longer as we draw down towards the right side. And here also just press hard on the very bottom. If the light source is coming from our point of view. I just wanted to dark and ate more because I still can see the white dots of the paper and I want to cover them. So if you have dark in it too much, you can always erase. Erase too much. You can always apply graphite over that again with the blending stump. So it is important to make gradient transition between the highlights and basic color over here. And that's why I'm applying an eighth v here. And I just want to blend it. And now let's draw some additional heres. Why ways highlight the flyways. Over to highlight the end. I'm using mechanical eraser. I just place it in the middle of the highlight and I move it outwards. And here also, if I make it too long, I just covered it with the blending stump and just use a quick confident strokes motions. And now it can blend this. And also let's add some flyways with a 10K sector knife here at random, wherever you want, like this. But yeah, it requires patience and a lot of time, and sometimes the hair takes more time than the whole face. So focus on a small section of hair, creating strokes from both and the section. I think this because usually the top and the bottom part of the here is typically darker than the middle. When the hair curves and and where the hair curves, the person closest to you, which is usually the middle part, is exposed to more light. That's very important. I still feel it's not dark enough, so I just want to use an aide B pencil. But of course it depends on the color of the hair you want to draw. I want to draw kind of lie brown here, but if you want to drop black hair or dark brown, this area should should be much darker and you use different shades, use darker shades and here I want to make a tiny, curvy hairs. Were you here? When the hair grow from the roots, it goes upward and then it just bend downwards, and this is what I want to achieve here. So as you can see this mitt down is actually also gradation off the great colors. I'm using it to age now, and I go over the highlights because they're still too bright to me. And here the same. I press hard over the HB and I release the pressure as I go over to highlight. And now I'm using an age be again, and I just want to separate the highlighted strings by creating the darker parts between them. Okay, now let's blended old with tea, shoe and star here over the highlights and just full of the direction off the hair flow and just blended old and press hard to impress the graphite into Tutut of paper. I was blend a hair with a tissue because it makes it looks soft and even shiny er, And now I can be loved to meet. Don't further. I'm using a B pencil here, and I just want to dark and more the top of the hair here and here, of course, next to the face to the skin to create kind of guest. A shadow also creates some flyways. Never leave the edge between the hair and the background clean always creates some individual. Here's flying all around. This should be always flyaways that so often and break up the edge between hair and the background. When creating these fly was, just relax and just create them in one passed with confidence strokes. You really can't mess up with this, using my mechanical pencil razor by tumble to create a highlighted Here's here in the middle. I just placed the tip of a razor over the highlight, and I just moved that outwards highlight. Releasing the pressure. I use this mechanical razor pencil to create tiny hairs and a nom using this one erasing in pencil, which allows me to highlight this trends in general and not individual. Here's and now I just want to create some flyways, some highlighted. 4. How to Draw Straight Hair - Part 2: I was with my mechanical pencil eraser. This is very practical tool because I just caught the top of the gum with my deny, and I get sharp edged of the razor, which is great for creating the highlighted flyways. You don't like some of the highlighted flyways that you have created. You just go over down with Pan Cell or with a blending stump, and you can eliminate them. So white touching the paper never touched the paper with your fingers with your skin. And now we can blend it all with a tissue, and you can see how it becomes darker now and smooth and soft. And you see that those lines that I was talking about, all those lives just disappeared, I think here, off standing parts of the stroke that we drew in the first section, and now we can create some darker parts. I'm using it to be here, and I just want to make this space between the face and the hair darker, almost blended with a blending system. So here you can go into details as much as you want, or you can live like this, but you can work on it and add more details. I'm shading the neck here because this kind of hairstyle would cast strong shadow over the neck, particular in the upper area of the neck. I just want to separate some blocks, would it? B pencil. So now we just have to shade some. Here's some locks or between the lock and to add some highlights, and we're done with this left side. - No , let's blended these dark areas with a blending stump. We can create highlights. I just use the tip of your razor and erase where we want to make brighter locks like this. So this side of the hair will be less illuminated if we have our light source coming from the top right corner. But still it has to have some highlights. Well, this could be even drawn. And I create Chinese curved lines, as you can see. So in this section the hairs grow upward. Also flyways over the forehead and just great cast shadow between the here and the forehead . I'm using an age be lead for this. And of course, this has to be blended with a blending stump. - No , let's grace some darker sports between the locks, like there's just to separate the highlight and locks with an age be and don't press too hard. - That's always we have to break the clean edge between the hair in the background by adding some flyways and also over to here. No, let's create some highlights with a razor here, tempers too hard. Just make it a bit brighter and now I just want to add some highlighted flyaways with my mechanical razor. Okay, Now we can move to this area here to finish the hair because this is the only area left and here I just want to draw straight here. So this is pretty simple Step. I'm still using an age be lead in my mechanical pencil. This is the same thing that we did on the left side. Just here. We have to make it a bit brighter. And now let's blend it with a tissue that same here. We have to create darker hairs between the face and the hair. I'm using it to be here and of course, the cast a shadow over the neck. - I would just want to blend it with a Q tip. And here the same. Also indeed, on the left side. Let's great some darker areas between the locks. I'm using a to age here, and I just want to make it a bit different. - Okay , this is pretty enough for the beginners. But if you want to draw realistic hair or to make it better, you have to go much more into details and to practice more. And of course, you can take a look. What reference photos, Then it's much easier to draw than like this from scratch. But the most important is to practise the techniques and and to train your hand to be able to changed the pressure in your pencil. So did you can achieve what you want with your pencils.
