Project Description

The class project will be creating your very own piece with hand-lettered type. Here's what you'll need:

Paper (I'll be sketching on 8.5 x 11 card stock and then creating the final piece on 11x17) / Pencil / Erasers / Pens and a Marker (I'll talk about some of my favorites) / Metal ruler

First, you'll create a layout/plan for your piece. This involves just boxing in areas on some scratch paper and figuring out what will go where.

Second, move to the larger piece of paper and start sketching in your letters in the corresponding space you reserved in the planning stage. Then you'll refine those letters to be the right shape and style.

Lastly we'll start inking the piece to make it permanent. This is a slow but steady process, so don't get in a rush! Take your time and make your lines nice and even. We'll use a marker for larger areas of color.

I'm excited to see what you've put together. Give me a shout with any questions!
