To expand your potential, you must expand your knowledge. One of the best ways to expand your knowledge is by reading books.

For a very long time, I was bad at reading books. I was lucky if I read half a book in a given month because I felt like I had so much to do. I was writing blog posts, creating courses, marketing my business, and performing so many more tasks in a given day.

When I realized that not learning was the equivalent of falling behind and getting stuck, I knew I needed to read more books. I established a new routine that allows me to read at least 10 new books every month. That doesn't include the books that I read multiple times each month.

If you want to expand your knowledge so you can expand your potential, you need to read more books. This course will teach you how.

1. INTRO: How To Read 10+ Books Every Month: Hello. What is upmarket Birdie here? And one of the things that I know about you since you're in a course like this is that you want to learn as much as possible. Learning is really critical to success because it expands our knowledge and we want we expand our knowledge. We expand our potential and one of the ways that people like to acquire knowledge as to read books. Reading books goes really well with creating of engaging in training courses because it's just another form of knowledge acquisition. But some people struggle with reading books, and I was definitely on the same boat to where I was lucky. If I read half of a book in a given month. Well, I made a few changes to my routine, and now I'm able to read 10 books on a bad month. In some cases, I've read as many as 30 books in a given month, which averages out to literally a book every single day. And no, I didn't have a sacrifice. My business. I didn't have to give up on other things or anything like that. But it is possible for you to read a lot more books than what you're currently doing every single month and still be able, Teoh, watch skill share courses and still be able to grow your business. And in this particular course, I'm going to show you how you can start reading more books within your schedule without making sacrifices and not being able to spend as much time with family business. But you can read 10 books per month. It is possible this course is gonna show you how. 2. Adding Audiobooks To Your Routine: one of the easiest and cost effective ways for people to get started with Reading books is to actually listen to audio books. There are many opportunities where we cannot read the book, and we cannot watch a training course. But we can listen to audio things like driving the car, walking a dog. If you have a dog going to the grocery store, these present opportunities where you can't read anything like reading All Driving's band, you're gonna bump into people in the grocery store. And who knows what you're doing is gonna take you if you decide to pull the book out. But you can listen to audio content, and this is where audiobooks come in really nicely. So I like to listen to oil books during commutes to school and also any time that I'm on a bike in a gym because in a lot of time to go by faster and if I bike for an hour, that's an hour of gains knowledge through the audio books and as you get better listening to audiobooks, you can increase the speed, so I'll listen to audio books anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 pace because it allows me to get through more faster and depending on the authority, it's still very easily grab the insights by making it that speed. So you're able to get through the book faster, and you're able to utilize opportunities where normally you can't read or you can't watch a training course. But you can listen to an audiobook, so I recommend Audible for actually getting the audio books. It's a very inexpensive option if you remember there, like all the books were slashed like 30% off for something really nice like that. They have several sales were like No, make many of their books $5. You can always get credits there, which equate to a free book, And that's very like cost effective because some books cost as much as $20 because they're like hours and hours. But it's still just one credit, so it allows you to save a lot of money in that direction as well. But there's so many ways where you could be listening to audiobooks any time that you're listening to amuse music. That's time when you could be listening to an audiobook, acquiring more knowledge and expanding your potential so one of the biggest things you should be doing within this course, out of all the things I'm going to say and there's more to come back up. But the big thing start listening to audiobooks. I could listen to 10 audio books a month because I bike a lot in addition to the running that I do. And the commuting also allows me to listen to more audiobooks as well. So make sure you're adding more audiobooks into your schedule, so you're able to use what is normally consider this gap time, this anti time that's filled with no productivity, no value whatsoever into knowledge acquisition that then expands your potential. 3. How To Read Books Quicker: now, not all the books you're gonna listen to are going to be audiobooks. For some people, that may be true, but for a lot of people, you're also going toe read a e book or a print book. So one of the things you want to do is be able to read those at a quicker clip. And what that means is making sure that you're only getting the important stuff out of the book there some books that use a lot of case studies to emphasize the same points for some people whose case that is a really powerful. But there are certain case studies inserted parts of books that you can skip. So, for instance, if I'm reading a social media book and there's a chapter on growing your audience on Twitter, I'm going to skip that entire chapter, maybe even gleaned through just for a few seconds, even if it may be 20 pages, because I don't need toe learn how to grow on Twitter like Twitter's My jam like I know how to grow on that So, uh, sometimes, like with the book you're not reading from cover to cover your skipping around, you're going to the section that means the most to you. If you don't have a podcast, for instance, why would you go to the section of the book saying, Here's how you prepare for each of your podcast episodes. That's not what you do. If you want to launch a podcast and there's a section of Okay, here's what you do to launch your podcasts. And yes, that's a section that you need to be reading. But not all parts of all books are going to apply to you in your situation, so you need to know how to skip. So it's not just a matter of reading quicker. It's also a matter of knowing what content is going to impact you more. You can always go back to a book later on. So let's say that you have launched the podcast. Now you're giving this book of second read. Now that part about preparing for each interview has a lot more importance because now you're doing interviews with guests, experts, or now you're doing solo episodes, and you need to know how to prepare for each solo episode. So not all the content in a book of going to apply to you the first time you read it. So you do wanna skip around quickly read through things that you know may not apply to you right away and absorb the things that are going to have the biggest impact on you. And when you are going through your book, it's also important to understand that for the best books you're gonna want to re breed them. You're gonna want toe gather the insights over and over again. And in the next video, you will learn exactly what you need to do to make sure you have a better experience when you re read your books so that you're able to get all the value, get the mindset shift right away just by cracking open a few pages. 4. Make It Easier For Yourself To Re-Read Books: One of the biggest mistakes people make when they read books is that they don't want to write anything within the books. And this was something that I had for a really long time where I didn't want any pen marks in the book or any pencil marks. I don't do pen marks, but pencil is like I feel a little better about doing that. But the point is, you need to be underlining things within the book and taking your own notes. This is important because when you go there the book a second time, you may not remember the important points like it's not like you read the book the first time. You go back to it a few months later and you're like, Ah ha Page 76. That's what I need to read today. It doesn't happen like that. What happens is you underline a few things you don't want over underline because if you under, the more you underline, the less important the underlining is. So you only want underlying really important points. I had a really big impact on you, or say something that you know is true, that you need to remind yourself or just some really powerful piece of advice. So, uh, when you underline, that's basically what you're doing. And when you do go to the book of Second Time, you're able to go through those underlines, you're able to just cut out all the things that are not underlined. So instead of reading a whole page, you're just reading that one sentence that had an impact on you. You're not reading the whole case study. You're just reading those, like last 23 sentences that sum up the case I and talk about a result that you really want . So when you underline, it makes it easier for you to skim through the book a second time because you're only looking at the underlines. That's why I'm able to read, like, 10 books every day in the morning for 30 minutes because I'm not reading worked a word cover to cover. I am taking each of these books. I'm going through, like about 20 pages a day just on Lee, looking at the things I underlined. If there's a page where I did not underline anything, I just assume, oh, that this page, I mean, I didn't underline anything. It must not have been important enough then, so why would I re read it? So I would rather just focus more of my time on what I've underlined, what I deemed as important and that healthy to re read mawr of my books. So part of reading books. It's not just reading new books, old times not like 10 new books every single month. And some cases you could read 20 or 30 books just by re reading some of the old ones. Now it's He recommends reading it that, I mean at the bare minimum, five new books every month. I do recommend you get that number to 10 new books, so this isn't just like re reading your past content, but you could read like 10 to 20 of your books that you have already read every single month over and over again. Just to reinforce some ideas reinforced the mindset that you had eso that you're able to tap into your potential. More so. One of the books I read very often is secrets of the Millionaire mind, So I get into that mindset. It's not like it's not like you read a book you like, Wow, that's amazing. Like you implement, you're doing things, and then you cast it to the side. Collects dust, never to be ready. Get the mind set needs to constantly be refined, which is why it's important to take these classics, these books that you have that have had a really big impact on you and read them over and over and over again. It's small list. You don't want to add too many to the list that you're reading every single morning. But it's so important to do that. So every time you read a new book, just underline things in it because you can go back to it later to re grasp some of those same concepts. And if you ever need like, uh, I don't know what that thing was that Brian Tracy said, I should be doing to beast my goals. You can go back to your underlying notes and figure out what that thing was so you can keep moving forward 5. Make Your Goal Very Public: one of the cool ways to boost your chances of reading all these books every single month and even expand to that where some months or maybe even reading 30 new books and a given month is to publicly announce your goals. So one of the things I do on my block is that I have a monthly performance report that goes out, and I will craft a list of all the books I've read in that month. Now, some months air better than others, obviously, because in some of the buying more books and other monster this re reading, I literally spend the whole month, in some cases just re reading. But in that case is more like 40 books in those months because actually to grasp those ideas as I look around, see what are some of the new books that I could get? But the point is, you need to make yourself count. It doesn't matter if every month you publish a list containing all all the books you've read, it doesn't matter if you do a video holding the book saying I read this book or if you're you like me a lot, I read content marketing secrets. So, uh, there are many different ways that you can do it. But the key thing here is to make sure that you are posting this very publicly. Your friends are able to see it. They're able to keep you accountable. Your audience, they're able to comment on it, give you book recommendations so that you then have to follow up on their recommendations. So there are plenty of ways to do even something as simple as a Facebook posting. These are the books I read this month. But the point is you need to publicly announce your goal. I'm going to read this many books this month, or I'm gonna read this money books this week to even break it down even smaller. And once you publicly announce that goal, your accountability will go through the roof. And now all of a sudden, you realize, Hey, there, like dozens of people, hundreds, even thousands of people who expect me to read these books, I better get started and start to read them. And if you do that, then things were just going to start clicking. You will suddenly figure out ways to re faster. You'll suddenly find more time in your day. I know this sounds like a really ridiculous to the point. We're like, Oh, this thing, they all these things suddenly happened when you state your goal but your sub The reason is that your subconscious is working in the background because your subconscious realize, Hey, I declare this big goal. I should figure out a way to do it and the subconscious goes toe work to figure out. OK, how can I find more time to read books and make sure so growing my business and make sure I'm still upsetting my time, my family. But the moment you make yourself accountable in a public manner, that's when you'll start reading a lot more books. And you can use this for any goal in order to give yourself that added, Why power to continue putting in the work and continue delivering above your best effort? 6. Conquer Your Excuses With This Activity: Now I know that part of this is that you're gonna have, like, people make excuses for why they're not able to hit this goal. Like maybe they'll say I have this crazy schedule I have so much work to do. But in the end, excuses don't really matter. Because no matter how much time you make excuses, you're still not getting the same result. If people, if there is a way, we're like, you could make excuses and the results can come to you based on, like, best excuse. But we begin in, like so many epic results right now, but that's not how it works. So one of the things you need to do is look at the excuses sometimes that you may say to people, if you publicly declare this goal and people say, Why haven't you read the books yet? Then you make excuses. Look at those excuses that you're making and also the ones that you're thinking of right now. Like maybe you're thinking you're listening to me and it's like, uh, Mark doesn't understand my schedule. I have to do this. I have to do that. Now I could talk about my schedule to but I choose not to. I choose to put in the work. I choose to read the books when inside of taking a break of watching TV before, I was like right in. One of the things that's behind me right now is a TV, but I literally never watch that TV. The most I ever watched in a given week is like four hours of TV. It's a week, and that's different from people who watch four hours a TV in a given day. That doesn't include you, too. That doesn't include social media surfing the Web. So there are a lot of things that are taking away our time that, like we're consciously making those choices to do that. So, uh, well, I wanted to do for this whole week issue track your time. That's another big thing that I want you to get from this course. So just write a list of everything you do every activity from like driving somewhere to writing a block post to creating a video. And don't leave the bad stuff out. If if you watch TV for four hours, you put that in there. You have to keep yourself accountable to all of the activities you're doing. Spend with your time and by tracking your time, you'll find those gaps you'll find. What's your procrastinating on? And you'll be able to use that time to read a book or listen to an audiobook so that you're able Teoh consume or knowledge, which allows us to expand on your potential. Now I know some people may think Oh my gosh, I gotta drink every single second. Well, you just need a basic idea. So I recommend, like, any time to start a new task, right? The start time of that task and the end time of the task that you just accomplished. So you're doing it task by task. And in many cases, it's not like I mean, in some special cases. Like it. Maybe like task may take two minutes, but technically don't have a string of those like I don't, uh, write it down. Every time you sent email, Select, I sent an email to this person. Then I sent an email to that person. Just group it altogether. Three amount of time, total time that you spent sending e mails. So if you group your tasks like that and you write down the end time of one task and at the same time you write the start time off the new thing that you're doing new activity. And that includes things that you shouldn't be doing. That like procrastinate. Things like that you'll be able to track your time better. And when you see your schedule laid out, you will truly see how much extra time you could be committing to reading books, expanding your knowledge and then expanding your potential. 7. Get Great Book Recommendations: in order to read at these 10 books every month, you need to have these 10 books every month that you want to read. This isn't just about reading any book that you may enjoy or may not enjoy. You have to make sure you're picking books you enjoy. So one of my favorite ways of figuring out water the books out there that I haven't read is asking people what their book recommendations are. Now you can go into book reading groups on Facebook. You can look up on Amazon, see some of the books around. But my favorite approach since I have the breakthrough success podcast is you ask all my guests for three book recommendations, and I make those book recommendations public on all the show notes from episode. So my sight more Cadbury slash podcast will be able to see a lot those great book recommendations that past guests have left but or garlic of Whether you go there or not, you need to have a way to come across exciting books. You need to have a way to come across books that you know you're going to enjoy reading, so make sure you could find a few core group of people who you can ask. Hey, I'm looking for a new book to read. Do you have any recommendations? And you want to do this well, before you actually need that book Because if you don't really have any book left to read and you're not excited about the ones you have, then you're gonna lose the habit. You're not gonna be reading 10 books every single month anymore. More than that, because you don't have anything there that excites you. So you need to make sure you have a system in play that allows you to come in contact with more books that you know you would enjoy reading. I like to do it by asking my breakthrough success. Guest of their recommendations you could do is through a group or through other means. But make sure you have that in play so you can read at least 10 books every month. Even after you've gone. They're all of the books that you currently own, 8. Put The Best In Front: as you accumulate more books and you continue to read more books, you may realize, Hey, this wasn't such a good idea for me to get this one. Or you may have a stack of books that you haven't read yet, and you don't currently have a desire to read based on your current needs and wants. So in this situation it's gonna hurt your ability to read 10 books per month because you're not excited by what's in front of you. So we need to continue to get excited about the books that you have. And my favorite way of doing that is to constantly see the books that have excited me the most. So I always read the compound, the fact every morning that is one of my favorite books among some of the others every every morning, like the slight edge secrets of a Millionaire mind. So I put all these books in firmly because they get me excited to read they and be excited , too. Learn more. So put the best books that you've learned from in front of you. Look at them every day, so you have that excitement to read. You don't want this to be something that just drags on you. And if you have all these exciting books in front of you that you've learned so much from you will be obsessed with acquiring as much knowledge as possible.
