1. Introduction to Painting a Dimensional Watercolor Blackberry: Hi, everyone. Welcome back to the studio and welcome to my second class on how to paint our watercolor blackberry that they can see I'm in this class. It's going to be going through four segments all the way from sketching it down to painting it with dimension and then, of course, adding our final touches with our leaves. Overall, I hope you injured this class. And if you have any comments, questions, please feel welcome. Teoh, come in And I will definitely be getting back to you the future, this class and I very much support to seeing your own water. 2. Painting A Watercolor Blackberry (Part One): Hello, everyone. Welcome to our class about painting a dimensional watercolor BlackBerry. So first things first, we're going toe lightly. Sketch out our BlackBerry and bring this class which is going to do. A couple of Berries were not going to do the entire berry right now that will be in the next class. So just lightly sketch out your Berries and you don't want to go too hard with your pencil because otherwise you'll be able to see the lines in the painting, and you want it to be as a light as possible. Okay, once you have your BlackBerry drawn, we're gonna add a little leaf here. Next, we're going to start filling in a light color now, in order to get white space into our very as you can see, I have white space in each berry that that's whitespace. That's why it's space. This is white space. It's not white paint, and nor is it a white gout or acrylic paint even were just leaving space in our painting. We're not touching it, so how to do that is go ahead and with your brush lightly, leave a white space like so and then just go ahead and fill in that very like. So with that white light blue go ahead around the berry, just like so. And we're going to do this with Oliver. Buries the same thing with this one Here, leave a little almost like a moon shaped space because we're going to be creating an effect of light coming in from the right. So just sweep that color in all around the berry, like so all the way around. Now we're going to get our a medium toned brash, and we're going to sweep it in, like so Sleep it around. The berry in this medium tone will help with our layering process. Don't forget to dab your pain to excess paint onto your white towelette really helps to not overload the Berries with water, so just block out excess paint. But make sure you sweep that medium color all the way around your berry. Next, we're going to get a darker tone blue that we made before, and we're going to sweep that color around the left side of the berry. You don't want to go all around the white part of your barriers when it can keep it to the left, and this starts to create a dimensional effect. Of course, we're not done, but it really helps creating that sort of realistic looking water. Carberry sweep that Dark gets dark around the berry like so cipher. The blur. Here it will get in focus soon. Sweep that dark color all the way around, and we're going to do the same thing with our third berry as well. I use light strokes. I don't harshly paint with my brush. Same thing over here with this berry that wouldn't neglect this one. Leave in some white abstract space. I use the term abstract because it's it's all very regular. We're not using exact moon crescents or anything like that. So just go ahead and sweep that white blue color light blue color around. Get your medium tone. Sweep it in there like so dab excess paint off so it almost kind of picks up eight while the same time applying paint. Here we're getting a light gray. The light grey kind of balances out the whitest white to the darkest, darker kind of provides a nice Grady into color, and that's what we're doing here. We're going to get a nice gray color that we made before, and you're going to apply that to kind of the mid center of the berry. Continue to get your darker tone and kind of while it's wet. Paint some of that into the gray and then blend it with your brash like So does not have to be perfect. Just make sure you're blending in the color. Otherwise, you're gonna have some pretty harsh lines that you don't want. Do the same thing with our third Barry. Here, carry that dark, medium toned Hugh all the way around your berry like so, carry that color in that gray color tope. Bring that color in a swell, Depp off the excess paint, and now we're going to blend it in. If you don't dub off the excess paint while you're trying to blend in your code, it's just going to make a big mass, and you're gonna have a lot of water on your paper. And that's not what you want. So it's very important to always Dad excess water off of your brush with your towelette. Good thing you get in that dark color again and touch up your other Berries. Continue to sweep that color around the left part of the bury. It continues to create and nice, dimensional a fact. I call this the water color layering effect. It really is a beautiful technique. It's not hyper realism or anything like that, but it is a nice effect to create eight a dimensional look on your watercolor paintings continue to sweep in that color. Next, get your darkest dark. Do the same thing to the top very over here, that sweep that color in dab to get the excess water off, then blend. You could see how that just picked up a lot of that burke pink, which is a good thing because we don't want too much water. We're gonna continue to layer it so steep that dark color all the way around your very touch up some of your other Berries blend in some harsh lines. Be sure to blend, blend, blend because otherwise you're gonna have three harsh lines that won't look to natural. Need to blend in your blue colors like so Next Will will be creating a pretty dark color by getting black and are Persian blue. We want to create the darkest dark effects as he can see in the corners. We wanted to have a fine lying to make it look like it's quite dimensional and by doing that were going to create a more natural blended berry, as he can say, have the white spaces creating a nice Grady int there with our colors. Now we're going to get that dark black blue that I told you about just now. We're going to get that by creating pressure in blue and black. Together, we're creating a darker code than our doctor start to be created. Before then, we're going to get that dark black blue, and we're going to trace it around the edges painted around the edges of our Berries, and this will add a beautiful, dimensional color. As you can see, it creates a beautiful rendering of darkness on the left side of the Bering. He's gonna sweep that in here, carry that color around when I say carry your essentially carrying the water in your pain, pressure to the destination, you want it to go. So I just a caring because it's just carrying that water around and you want to paint it to create that nice. In fact, up here in the corner here, carry that nice, beautiful dark color around. Don't neglect your tiny spaces in the corners. Carry that nice color around. Bring it over. And they were going to be blending that next. Don't mind my cat. She probably thinks it's a really Perry. Okay, continue to sweep in that nice color. Now we're going to drier brush and blend in that dark color We completely cleaned our brush , dried it and they were blending in that dark color while it's still wet to create a more natural effect like so. And as you can see her Berries or taking beautiful shape here we have a nice dimensional color. We continue toe Lear it one more time with that blart dark color and touching it up in the corners. Don't forget to carried on the left side the darkest color. And there you have it. A segment of our dimensional watercolor berry. See you in the next class 3. Painting A Watercolor Blackberry (Part Two): welcome everyone to our second class of painting are watercolor berry. So what we're going to be doing here in this class is sketching out the rest of our very as you can see which is going toe lightly sketched out some of the Berries. I'm going to show you the whole process of sketching up this berry just so you can kind of see placement. I am looking at my reference to the left Here, go free to look at the reference as well. While you're sketching out to your very good draw them as round as possible. As you can see, I am making the right Berries almost like half moons because they're not going to obviously be full Berries. So you want to make it look as natural as it would be. So continue sketching out some circular Berries here. Big, nice round one here in the middle. Yeah, kind of centers at all, and its OK as you're drawing the berry. If it's kind of irregular, meaning you have some spaces that aren't quite matching up or coming together. Well, because we were going to be doing in the painting process is filling in those gaps with a very dark blue color which will make the very look even more dimensional. So continue sketching it out. We're gonna go be going all the way down to the bottom. Smaller Berries in a circular one Here. Another nice circular one right here. Of course, it won't look exactly like our reference voter. This one's gonna be a little bit more fuller and a lot more vibrant. Our side Berries again. Make sure they look like little half moons. But this one right here, you want to make it look as congruent as well. You don't want it to be or on full on the right side, and I school is on the left side. Just make it come down Nicely meets in the middle Gonna draw little side Berry right here. Another side Berries. I'm trying to even out the spaces and there we go. Next, we're going to be filling in our Berries with our light blue. As you can see, I am doing the same steps that we did in our previous video. I am leaving white space for that nice sunlight reflection coming on through the right side of the berry that if continued getting some more paint on my brush. Sleep that in their leaves him a nice white abstract space go all the way around the berry . Feel that very end. Next, you go around the barriers. Well, not you don't want to leave the entire right side of the very white you want. It could leave some space from the right side and then leave in that no nice white space and getting my medium color here for my pal A. And I am stooping that in, and then a dab my paintbrush with excess paint to pick up that extra water. And I'm a blending that nice medium color in. Make sure you don't touch the white parts of your Berries that you made. You want to leave those Christine as possible. Continue to carry that all the way around, like so lead that nice white space. Now I'm getting my darker, mid tone color, as you can see from my top of my Palais, and I am going in over that medium color as that I just put down. Don't touch a white spaces lightly carry that water around the berry. Same thing here. Lightly carry that water around Now, when you're going around the berry, be sure you don't use the same harshness as you are for the left side of the berry. You want to just lightly go around the edges to create a thin line on the exterior blueberry that has the whites part of it. As you can see, I was lightly going on the right side. Continue to carry that water around lightly. Is he conceding and lightly going around the edges? Exterior. Okay, Don't touch the white space. All of your white spaces aren't going to look as perfect. We're not going to be the same. You want that. You want them to have their own little unique character. Otherwise, gonna look to two similar and it won't look at the natural. Continue to get your lighter blue, lightest light, as I call it and sweep in that color again. Leave some days, Abstract white space. I am getting my darkest tone now and I am sleeping that in as you can see him kind of dabbling it in. And then you'll see that after I doubt. But I am drying it off on my towel. Let me paint brush and then I am mixing that color in if you don't have your pain, but you're gonna have too much water on your paper. So you want to dab your paintbrush nor to blend it well, can you to sleep that color around. Sweep, sweep, sweep. I am using light brush strokes for something as delicate as this kind of painting. Smaller. It's a little bit more detailed. I'm just using light breast strokes. Sweep that nice color in Don't Touch your white spaces, took a few. Go a little bit into white spaces to kind of make it a little bit more regular. But don't you know, completely change the configuration of your white space, getting some more of that darker mid tone color, dabbing it on my towelette blended Get in all the way around the berry in through the white spaces that already have the mid tones. Sleep that color in all the way around my very already around. Same thing for this very here. Sleeping around. I am going to continue getting my light blue. My latest light leaving some white space is now for the tiny ones right here. As you can see, I interest barely going in the corners just like so, but leaving the exterior white except for the lighter outer trace at it. Very going lightly. We should. You don't do a big harsh lying you just delicately tracing the exterior of the very on the right side. Same thing for this very Lisa. Nice white abstract space. See all that very in with that color. Get your nice, darker mid tone sweep that in. We'll be around your very same thing for this one. But a little side Berries years you can see just a little bit, and I'm delicately tracing the exterior. As you can see, I didn't make a big, harsh lying, which is what you want. Good. You're gonna mix it later. Fill in this very year. Bring that nice, beautiful, darker bid tone around. Same thing here. Bring that nice mid tone around, get these little cracks in here and I am using again just light fare strokes because I'm eventually going to go over them again with our darker mid tone. Go over the white spaces called in the abstract white spaces that you can see there are very regular, but they're all more or less more or less in the right side of the very 4. Painting A Watercolor Blackberry (Part Three): welcome to part three of painting are dimensional watercolor blackberry. So right now we're going to be filling in more of our Berries with our light blue color. We're just going toe lightly. Sweep that color in in all of the Berries. As you can see, they were going to get our medium tone color. We're going to sweep that color in Go all the way around your very like, So remember not to touch your white spaces that you made earlier. You want to leave those as white as possible. Continue to sweep that color in over here in this very lightly, go around the edges. Very important not to touch the whites part right now. See that color around. Continue. Teoh. Get some of this darkest dark that we made earlier, and you're going to sweep that color in the left side of the berry. Dab your paintbrush to get some of that excess water off. Very important step. Continue to sweep that darker color around the very like. So same thing for this very sleep that color around. Get a little bit more on our brush dad and sleep that color in to the left side of our Berries or in this case, right here, the corners sleep that color around. We're gonna continue here, sweeping in that dark color to all of our Berries. Lightly go in the corners here for our exterior. Right Berries right here. The corner, very lightly dab kind of blend that color in a little bit. Traced the outer edges like so very lightly. Very light, like so landed in a bet after dabbing your paintbrush because you don't wanna have harsh lines getting you to get in that darkest start that we made and sleep that color in. Remember, we're not touching her white spaces, but you're going over all of the blue in the berry with that darkest dark. Even the little line does he concede. Sleep that color all the way around. We're going to the same thing with our other Berries. Dab excess go into the left side of the berry, and it's easier ones to get the hang of it. To apply that same technique, all of the Berries, you get more of a feel as you go on down the berry. That's more of that dark color and sleep that color in here. Left side of the very dab and then start to blend it in. If you don't dab the excess water off, it will get really watery again. And you don't want that. You wanna have a consistent stream of paint on your brush. Otherwise it can get very watery. Same thing for this. Very here. See that color and going over abstract white spaces, not touching them. But going over the blue in the white space is same thing for this corner here, using light strokes, kind of blending that color in blending it in. Next, we're going to be doing the same thing with our light blue color, leaving in some white space just like so on the right side of the berry here, sweeping that nice color around, filling it in the rest of the berry with that light blue color we're going to do in the same thing for several of the Berries around. Then we're going to be getting our medium tone color and sweeping that color around the very sweep it around. Remember to use a light to retrace as you go around the exterior of the very, but the rest gonna be to think of a line, it will look natural. Can you see that color around, not touching the white parts? It's OK that as you go to touch up some of the other Berries with that color does kind of make a smoother transition, and some of the Berries dab blend it in. If you're not comfortable going in touching over Berries as you go, that's fine. You can doom, um, as we go down instead of kind of sporadically touching him up. Who's kind of helps as you go along to touch up the Berries over here. The left very kind of bringing that nice blue tone to make a more natural Grady and in each of the Berries, like so, makes a more cohesive look and all of the Berries, and we're gonna get more of that darkest star. Continue to bring that around blended after dabbing the excess water off your paint all the way around your very lake, so continue to now touch up all of the other Berries. With that light blue. Leave some white space fill in the rest of that very with that nice blue light blue color. Your lightest light, as we call it, continue to get into that medium believe tone you and bring that in delicately going over that very not touching the white stays dabbing it as you go, nor to blend it well, sweep it over the edges, lightly touch up. Same thing for this very here. Lightly go over the edge like so you don't want to harshly use your fresh just delicate strokes all over. Then we're going to get some of our darker dark by mixing in some black and that Persian blue just like so as you can see that I did. Here, mix, mix, mix. Get in that color here, in the crevices of the very gently bring that color in lightly trace it around the edges. Same thing here. Lightly trace it around the edges, like so very lightly, and we're gonna bring this nice prision. Balu, the lack blew into this very here lightly. Bring that color in. We're gonna sweep that color around, and it will create a nice Grady int. It is a BlackBerry, so don't be afraid to use that dark, nice, beautiful color in makes you look more vibrant after having your brush blended in touch ups . And these buries here lend that nice color in blend blend, doing the same thing over here with this very that nice dark Persian blue sweep that color in marine get around the very being gentle enough not to touch that white space dab taking out the excess water, blending it in Did you touch up those Berries? What I am doing here is I just got some of that light blue that you can see and I am Just bring it into the left side of the Berries Very little just so you can create a nice, more smoother Grady int from the darkest start to the white. As you can see, I'm not touching all of the white. Now I am touching up some of the other Berries with our light blue living in some nice white abstract space, as you can see, feeling that very with that light blue. Same thing for this very this very right here. We're gonna leave a nice white space on the right side of the very like. So go with those corners. Fill in that nice, very full of that white light blue. Next, we're getting in our medium tone filling in some. Kravis is here with that color, dabbing the excess paint off our brush and everyone a mixed that in lightly. Go on the edges of our exterior. Right Berries, lightly trace again. Light me. Go around. Bring that color ain using light strokes. Same thing for this very lightly. Bring that around blended in. Same thing for this exterior barre, which is really going on the corners and lightly tracing the exterior of it. Blending in this medium tone here bring all the way around lightly. Same thing for this. Very gently. Bring that tone around the very like. So leading some of that abstract white space still around the very filling those corners. I don't want to neglect any of the spaces that are supposed to be full nest. Continue to sweep in your light blue tone, your lightest light leaving some of those white spaces so we can continue filling in the rest of our BlackBerry. Moving a little bit quicker now, as we can get the hang of doing each berry but still at a decent pace continually, even some of that white space this very right here some nice white space this very right here, leaving a nice abstract moon crescent right here. Next, we're going to be getting in our medium dark tone, and we're sweeping that color in kind of leading a little bit of dabs because we're gonna dabbas. You can see taking up that excess water on paint and they were blinding that color in gently going over the white spaces, going around the exteriors gently. Something for this very going around, the very feeling it in feel that side of the very end with that medium blue tone color sweet that color around. Fill in this corner right here. Gently go on the exterior and for this very right here, gent legal on the exterior, especially for those outer right Berries. Very gentle, lying on the exterior just like so, go around the berry, continuing to feel that for the rest, couple of your Berries, like so, following that same process. Gentle exterior, filling it in and not touching that white space. Now we're going in and getting our darkest dark color and going around the left side of the berry as you can see just kind of sweeping that color around very lightly, dabbing the excess off and blending it in carrying that around the berry. Just like so, get that tone and some of the other Berries by touching them up just to bed. You're getting the exterior right Berries gently going on the exterior like so next. Let's still in this very some of that darker tone around the very like. So fill her end. That's some more paint on your brush with that darker dark go around the Berries. This is creating more of a dimensional effect now, after more of the mid tone colors have dried dab blended in. After we have it blended, continue to bring in that dark color around the rest of your Berries. Sweep it gently around like so touch the edges. Same thing for this. Very gently. Bring it around left side of the barrier as you can see Dad, sweep that color around the land that color in blend blend blend, going around the exterior here to make a more perfect circular. See, Continue to blend in your darker colors. That's a more on your paintbrush. Bring that in here in the corners. We have brought some more of that dark color around several ever Berries like so dab, and we're gonna blend in those dark shades that we placed in some of our Berries. Blend, blend. Blend in that very here that we decide that dark paint, too. Bring it around. Same thing for this very touch it up. Bring that nice color around, gently blended some of that dark color a pew. In this hearing, the corner is here. Next, we're going to get a gray color that we made, and we're going to sweep that color into the left side of the white spaces. And, as you can see, it creates a more natural Grady in from the darkest dark to the lightest lights. To suit that color over several of the Berries does not have to be perfect. It's creating just a more natural Grady int feel a little bit on this very touch up this very a bit. Then we're going to get some of that blue grey and sweep that in a bid as well into some of our Berries, like so dab. Take off that excess water. I am going over some of that white space to create a more natural ingredient. Now I'm getting a blue black, as you can see, just showed and I am now going in the corners of our very This is a very important stat because this creates a very dimensional effect in our very I also got a smaller brush. If you don't have a smaller brash, that's fine. Just a musical lighters, lighter strokes. And I am going in. The Kravis is of my berry, as you can see sleeping around the left side of my Berries. In this case, right here, it's the right side of this, very. But you can tell the ways the light is reflecting sweeps that dark color in blended little bit of water. I'm getting some more of that Persian blue black sweeping Get in like so and blending it. Continue to do that for the rest of your Berries. You'll have a nice, radiant look. 5. Painting A Watercolor Blackberry (Part Four): welcome everyone to our final segment on how to paint our dimensional watercolor buried. So we are just continuing on to mix in that darker color here in our Berries, going in the left hand corners here, filling them in and leading them Asik unsee. I'm going to be showing you pretty much the entire process of filling in the left side of our Berries so you don't miss. And the minute details. Remember to trace along the fine details without touching the white space that you still laugh before dab. Blend in that color. Continue on your lower Berries doing the same technique. Go gently around the edges, just like so. Fill in those corners. Feel that left sided with that dark color. Building this very in this being to the left. Well, those left sides and living a little bit of a white line. As you could see Teoh show the two separate Berries. Well, this one, appearing a little bit, added that darker oppression blue black color into these Berries. We're going to continue Teoh overlay the Berries that we previously made with our dark prison blue black. It's going to start to take more of a dimension. We're going to do the same thing over here with our right Berries, gently sweeping that color. Gently trace around the edge like so same thing for the upper berry like so gently seep around. It's and more paint on your brush. And when we're going to do the same thing over here, sleep in that color and we're just continuing to fill in our very with that dark color. We're going in, patching up some of the latter Berries from before, bringing in that dark color, and we're going to blend it in, fill in some of the rest of the Berries. You don't want to neglect any of the Berries that look a little bit more louder than the others and the only Cokie said, and look unnatural. But they flow together in a way. Bring that nice dark color around, continue to get your dark blue black and fail a the corners. In fact, I mix in a little bit more black because we're going in the corners now, of the Berries were filling in the gaps, and you can see the missing gaps between the Berries. Look, somebody like a little square. We want Phil those in with the dark blue black right here is a perfect example, instilling in that little corner with that dark color. Right? See her, What of it, Right here. Building that corner and right to you, and this really helps filling in the gaps to make it look like it's stuck together in a way . And it's not just separate Berries. Fill in the start color here. Blend those colors in. So now you consider starting to take a more dimensional appearance. It was the blackberries who were using those darker tones. Live it more now, filling them in on the sides. There you go, a little bit more on a brash, not neglect, this very here on the right corner bill that corner in continue to bring in that dark color around. We are now just sweeping over the berry and finding spaces that need touches, and now we can start our stem and leaves. So before I showed the green deep green and white in the 1st 1 all agreed in 2nd 1 and then just the deep green and 3rd 1 and course I Brown's. I have just the underground and then brown with the white mixed in to have a dark brown and then a light a brown. We're going to simply sketch out the leaves, like so already had one lead sketched out and er stem. Next, we're going to get that brown, that lighter brown coloring lightly trace over paint over the sketch of our stem, leave a little space and make another line right beside it to the lapped. Next, we're gonna get our darker brown here, and we're going to sweep up on the left side of that stem because, as you can see, the light is shutting it from the right. So you want the right to a little bit more letter than the left side of. Instead, gently sweep up, dabbed a paintbrush and blend that in a bit. You could look a little bit more smoother, blend the stem. Next, we are going to add in a little bit of the character in the stand, which is a little bit of fibers. Just let him stick out a bit on the right side, looking that light brown just kind of fan them out from the right side. Next, we want to start our first lien. When you get that lightest green teller that we made, and we're going to sweep up gently over the leave that we made. As you can see, I am leaving spaces, white spaces, much like it did with the actual berry. Then I am getting in that medium brown that medium green median green color and I am going over the bottom of the leaf. Next, I am getting my darkest green that I may be fixing some of that deep green with some black , and I am going over the bottom of the league. We want to create a little bit of a dimensional effect on the Leeds just did the berry. So we're just going todo over the actual lines that we made. We're not going to go between the white spaces just to create a nice dimensional of bags. Bottom of the Lee fill in those small details. Same thing over here with their second leave just lightly sketched out with your light green over that lead. Then we're going in with our medium green turn, going right over those same lines that we did gently sweep over those lines about touching your white space dab bringing that night dark darkest agreeing colors. Sweep that in. Put up a bit your old Leavis. Well, that dark color suit that dark color over the edges of your leave.
