About This Class

Hi, my name is Christian. Welcome to the Course!
I am a motion designer and 3D generalist with over 9 years experience in the industry.

In this course I will teach you how to model and animate a gift box.

Sometime ago, i created a gift box template for after effects.I have received several requests regarding the techniques i used to create the animation. So I thought I would make a tutorial out of it.

Also, with this tutorial I tried for the first time to comment directly in english during the recording. Since English is not my native language, I sometimes have some problems with the pronunciation. Feedback from you would be appreciated.

What will you learn?
You will learn how to model a simpel gift box with a ribbon loop.As well as a combination of deformer, dynamics and mograph to create the animation of the gift box.

- Cinema 4D

We will take care of the following material contents:
-Creating the different Parts of the Box
-Creating the Ribbon loop
-The Animation of the Box using deformer, dynamics and mograph
-Creating the Camera animation

Who is this course suitable for?
This course is for those who want to extend their understanding of modeling, deformer, dynamics, mograph and animation.

1. Instruction Overview: Hello and welcome. In this course I will show you how to model like if box that will be animated after Watts. Since we need a gift box made of separate parts for our animation, we will use different methods to achieve this. The same goals film emission part. I will show you a mixture of keyframes to formers and dynamics to create already site animation, you will need cinema for D and some basic knowledge for the course. But I will explain most of it in detail and see you in the first part. 2. Modelling The Gift Box Parts: Hi and welcome to this gift box tutorial. We will start by creating a cube. And if you think about it, if you saw the final animation, you probably saw it. We want to be able to animate the different parts of the gift box separately. And because of that, we will start know too. Well the sidewall of forest. So we use this cube and x value. You just slice off 150 and the y-value, also 150 and the C value, we take it while you're off what? Now, since we want our box and the ground and not floating around, we need a y-value of 75. No, it's seeing the ground. And we also want sec burdens. And also the value of ten and the y axis. I will create a null objects and call it back up and just copy here or a cube in there. And make it invisible. Costs no, we will make our acute edit, edit table by hitting the key C on a keyboard. And next step is to create the ribbon on the sidewall of a roof box. It is the polygon mode and the selection mode also. To create our selection for the a ribbon of the sidewall. Now the next step is to extrude it a little bit. So go to mesh commands. Extrude. No, it's under a create tools my bad? Or is it Herodotus? And we offset it by maybe two centimeter, a little bit too much. Maybe 11 should be fine. Alright, now by double-clicking and the material tab, I will create a material and call it loop. No reflectance needed so that we can uncheck this and give it the color blue. My copy that material and name it, and give it a red color. Selection or our ribbon. So. They go to select and loops election and tried to get the site polygons here, which were just fine. I'll go to select and set selectional sidewall. And we can apply all materials and will give the ribbon the blue colour. Alright, though the next step is you create an anchor point because we will later on clone the sidewalls and want, wanted to be able to rotate the sidewalls not under the center of the sidewalk, but from the bottom. So to do this a little creates knowledge checked, and name it, and just put the cube in there. You're able to rotate it on the bottom axis. So next step is to create our cloner. So good tomograph cloner. Put our anchor in there. We want to radial component. We need for loans. And, and see y-axis and nope, it's not, it's x. C x is the radius. Let's take still we had 150 or eight, though we need a radius of 75. And transform tab, we will rotate by 180 degrees. And if you take a closer look now, we have a gap and we don't want that. So back to the object. Give it it 74.5 maybe. You know, we have intersection but that's fine. And pick up assaults have gone. Now the next step is to create the ground plaint complete for the gift box. To do so, we copy our backup cube and rotate it 90 degrees. And since we have a size of one centimeter, we need 0.5 in the Y position. So if you press F3 on the keyboard, I can see some matches with the ground. That's what we want. No. We can make the cube editor Bill again with the shortcuts C on the keyboard. And go into Polygon mold your life selection tool. And we can create our selection for the Rubin part on the bottom. Now I will not extruded this time. So we'll just go to select and sets a selection. And then you can apply or materials again. Alright. Okay, the next step is to create the box cap or the box top. So we'll create a cube again. And I'll make it a little bit bigger than the size of horror gift box. So 153 should be enough on the size, who will take a value of 20 and see 153 again, segments and the x axis or a town. And unless c x is also, now we have to reposition Q becomes so. Go to the site view with the shortcut of three and repetition of the cube. Like that. Epsilon vector, the perf perspective, you know, we'll height of the cloner. So we can see at the bottom of the cube better. And before we make an edit to pour over coffee till the backup and pull it up and respond. Well, and this one was on the bottom. So back to our cube. Null, we can make it editable by pressing the shortcut. See again back in the polygon small life selection tool and make your selection complete site here. No, we will give you the tools and the mesh and create tools. And or before I extrude, make our clone noticeable again. And now I can see how much it's needed. So it just left-click kill the mouse button and record. Something like this. It's good, nor will hide the cloner again. And switch to mode. So mash, create tools, extrude. And by holding the control key on your keyboard. And I'll move it upwards on the Y axis. And you can make an extrude cells, something like that. Now we can again, back to the left Selection Tool. And Mike, the selection for the ribbon on the top part. And from this side also, this one, this one cylinder, we can make a selection. Selection. Actually we could make a bubble on the site. Yeah, I think we should do this first. So go to latch mode, select, and choose Group Selection, and choose the outside. Actually. Now go to mesh and create tools. And offset of two should be fines, additions phi should also be fine. Like kinda hit Apply to transform some Tibet. One thing, our selection and snowfall pods, we can add this election to. It will just go to the last election. And while holding the button shift on the keyboard, you can at a Polygons tool selection. Just like that. And make sure your selection tag is selected and go to Select and set selection. Now let's probably saved. Right now we cannot have to extrude it first. So go to extra mesh. Grid tools extrude. And I also don't want centimeters fine. And no, we Karen at our roots again. I forgot the site's name thing again, go to select loop selection, polygon mode, and click on the sides. And make sure you are select Utica selected. To select selection. Yeah. That's what you want. 3. Modelling The Ribbon Loop: Okay, the box is nearly finished. What we didn't know is the ribbon loop. All the tough part to go with a little bit more detail. So to create the ribbon Uber or create a new project file by the gamble, the shortcut Control add objects are just blow basics that up, but we don't need them, so we'll delete them. I also turn off the grid than the viewport settings here. We will start with our simple circle. So just create a circle. Give him the radios of 25. And do you also needs a rectangle? So create a rectangle. And the width we can look at all really 0.5 and the hate, hate 16. And by hitting us on the keyboards, we can jump to our objects. Will know you will need a sweep nerves. And if we put both splines into it, we have 3D object. So to create the shape of our ribbon loop, we will use FFT former ON surplus. So for now we can turn off the sweetener. You'll till the deform and creates an FFT deform and make it a child of the circle and fit to parent. Now on the grid size on the c-axis will give with a value of one. So we do have a little bit wide room. The grid points x. It would have earlier for the red points y and c, Monday off too. And I'll go to the point modes and life selection mode and select the top points or MQTT former. And tried to make a ribbon didn't sheep from one side cause we will use the symmetry object in a minute to merit. So it doesn't have to be perfect to accept her right now. If we turn on our sweetener and go to the Display Settings and turn on guage shedding lines can see the gridlock or 3D object. Since we want to place it in a minute to get a little bit more details, we need a little bit more polygons right now. So we'll go to the circle and the interior media to point section. Use subdivided and the maximum length may be a value of 0.6. And we will do the same for the rectangles, so subdivided and 0.6. And you can also use the rounding. Gets attached. Right? Can implement more that. You can bring this outside perfect, but we will get there. Well, the next step is to rearrange our excess. We can set the objects in the pseudo position to mirror it, mirror it probably. To do this object mode and turn off the evil axis. And four on the keyboard. And rearrange the axis of our object. Something like that. And back to the Perspective mode to turn off the enable access mode, go to the coordinates of Horus, hypnotherapist and Sierra and away well, you and I also a group of dispute nerves with the Shortcut alt she pollutes rippling loop. And no, I will add symmetry. Object to it. And make little loop of symmetry. No, two adds a little bit more detail. As I said, we will use display sir. So go to the former and choose a displace or make it a child of the ribbon loop MLA object. And in the object TAB, we will use a height of 0.8 centimeter. And the direction will be plumber and orientation is y plus y or a case. And shading, the shading tab under shader, we will add noise to it, and we will also check the noise or click on the noise. And the relative scale on the x axis. Go with maybe ten hundred and ten thousand and twenty five. So we have a little bit of detail what's going on here. Now to hate the middle part here, we will create another circle. So just create another circle and give him a radius of 12. And the plane direction of c y. And we can also change the intermediate points from elliptic, adaptive, subdivided. And what was it? The maximum length. Same as before. We will add another FDD formula. We go make it a child of the spiracle and fit to parent in the grid size x, we will give it a value of one centimeter. And the grid points speaks a value of two null. We will start to reform our circle again to height this middle part. So conductors for now. And now we need another few CHNOPS, just copy over old ones. So click on, press control on your keyboard. Left-click and drag it up here. Delete, circle and our new one into it. And as you can see, we have a lot of action going on still we need to adjust or did you form a little bit more? And also go to display and hidden lights, right? Yeah, so you can see our master formula but better. Now. Our objects again. Select both and g on the keyboard. Now a little bit more detail, we can use another FFT farmer and make it a child off the null object. And to seek better, can hate the other FFT foremost for now. Rearrange the grit size. 15-year defined, something like that. Your wrench that position a little bit. And point mode. Now, same as before, just to make a mark here. Maybe 120 should be fine. We don't have a section going on. So just deform it. Perfect in the real world. So to add more t-shirts on top, we can use another displacement. So displacement is placer and make it a child of an object. The object tab and the height in centimeters should be enough to Institute's Center is good direction is and the axis is plus y vector, the shading tab. And adding a Nice to it. And you can, of course, adjust the earliest noise if you want to. But I would say for the tutorial purpose should work, it's fine. So now we can add our ribbon, do the final project files, so to electorates and control C to copy it. Then pressing V and hold it on the keyboard, go to projects. And the project file we worked on lately. And with control and V can import our revenue. Now, getting F3, you see the side view can rearrange our ribbon. On back to the perspective view. And you rotate it a little bit of a scaling, a little bit like that. The blue color. And maybe the place plates are a little bit too much. And we give it the value of 0.8. Maybe better, but it's up to you. You could also go to the other FFD former and still the shape of it. But that's up to you. So to wrap things up, we will name the cup to the box. Cup will also create a knowledge check. Box. Can drop box parts into it. And since we will any meat or boxcar separately and the ribbon loop final is a part of the box cup. We will make the river luke Final Show, top of the box cup. 4. Using Deformer To Create The Animation Of The Giftbox: In this part of the ball, take care off the animation, but the fall hit control D on your keyboard. So you can't see the project settings. And make sure you have the same frame rates that they do. They do have 30 frames per seconds. Okay, and the next part is to create a camera suit. The duty is click and hold the camera icon here and choose a target camera. Or the camera target himself. Beat young, change the display mode from DO2, sphere and switch to the view. And the target will find his please. And walks in the middle of the box. Can increase of the radius of the camera target bit and their orientation need to explain that it's not that important. So I think that should be the middle of it. And the camera target, little finds his please hierarchy. Okay, back to the prospect of hue. You'd think a fallen off the end keyword. Are no. Jump into the camera and choose your final prospective or animation. And we'll do something like that. But to your finalize this later on. We can also add floor. Or the ground would create a plane. And let's make it really big, like 4 thousand by 4 thousand. And since we will create the animation now, I will also go to window and open up the timeline. And pi, a drunk and grew up. And I will make it part of the UI. So rearrange it right there dear behind us beyond than emission is the box will come from a rough drop belts a little bit, maybe. Now rotate a little bit than the Xs. And later on we will use all sorts of former and dynamics to make the animation a little bit more interesting. So by novel we will handle for us with the animations. So let's throw it out for no go to frame ten and make a keyframe on the y position. Back to our frame one and give it a value of 600. And let's take a look. Now. Shut behind her. Now, since the box is very foreign and dropping on the ground that we all jump up, jump up a little bit. So maybe go to frame a 13 and give it a lower y-value. And then six hundreds or maybe 50 is fine. So we have a little jumping up births again. And on frame 17 maybe come down again to Ciro or something like that. So we would like also to have legal rotation enumeration problem frame 1317. So it comes down, back up a little bit and then under the rotation and it's firmly on the ground. So band prim 13 on the heading, we have Aaliyah CSIRO. And on-premise, May 17 be a value of 12 would be fine. Yeah. Something like that. So now it's time to add stretched, deformed. So go to on forma and choose squash and stretch. We can also go to the box first. Making other deform or invisible or from the ribbon. We can see those questions stretch better. Also, turn off the target camera for now. And make the squash and stretch deform are part of the box hurricane. And I'll drag and drop it into also guilty or the site few way hitting F3 key on the keyboard. Now, the squash and stretch, your former house, this factorial you, with which we can influence the shape of a bar or a gift box. And you have also the value bottom, top or bottom. Cyril can also see this little purple handle here. And our top should be up off our original loop. Just readjusted and little bits and playing the effector to see what's happened, but that looks fine. So take the vector 2101 back to the perspective view and back in our target camera? No, if you're thinking about it, the gift box is falling from the sky, hitting the ground. And at this point, there should be a little stretch going on, something like that. Then it's going back a little bit. So we have the opposite effect to the ground, but less than previously. And then we have like a shot frame where we have like our little bit of a mobile animation. And that's exactly what we will do, no. So back here to 100. And maybe on frame a2 or sets and keyframe, go to frame ten, boxes hitting the ground. And try maybe 80, then 13. So back in the air. Maybe one, maybe a little bit too much. And we will figure it out and then back to 17th or back on the ground again. And then a few frames later, maybe 20 to 11010 sub-frames later, 2732, maybe three to maybe 100 to trust a little bit. And unlike 40 year 41. So let's take a look. Now that's 130 is maybe still a little bit too much. And be 120. So far, so good. Okay, now we have the first part of the animation almost done. So let us come from sky hitting the ground. Then it takes some restroom to 47th, we can take another keyframe. And now I would like to have like an animation where of the gift box inhale and exhale and exhaling. Top cap is shooting off and our our sidewalls also kind of exploding caught me. So and now it's time for inhale. Let's say 50 to maybe tomorrow. Maybe five to five. And then 5720 again. If we look alright. And 62, we're back to a little bit more inhale and exhale. So on this point, if he is like here and we're exhaling, and at this point, at the peak, shooting upwards and laws starting to falling apart. Yeah, that's what we should all take care about next. 5. Dynamics And Finalizing The Animation: Okay, now it's time for the dynamic parts of the animation. So we will start by extend offering range to maybe 350. And then we will add for us dynamic tack to the box curves. So I'll right-click on the walks curb, go to simulation and Richard body. And we need to also more href tag on the floor. Right-click on the plane and simulation of tags and collateral body. So back to the box cap Richard, body. Dynamic bodies tack and under dynamics, go to custom, initial velocity here. And before we do that, turn off an adult. So another tech himself as disabled. And custom initial velocity here. We would like to have a value on the y axis. I will try and overly off 2500. And if we think about it for a moment, the gift boxes inhaling and exhaling and on the on the, on the peak, you wouldn't like to shoot the box kept off. So on frame 56, we hit the keyframe for the enabled value, which is complete disabled on by hitting the shortcut key on the keyboard, we trumping Frank forward. And now we can enable the dynamic body tag and set another keyframe. And if you now take a look at the whole animation shooting off. So box cap was gone. But don't worry, just hit the go to the Start button and you're back in business. And I would say, we take a look again a little bit late. I think we should. We arrange our dynamic molecule frames a little bit and maybe one or two frames LDR. So take a look. Now it's much more fluid. And there I will leave it for now. We could actually at their rotation to it like that or not 30 degree here and there. And take another look. It's not really much of a difference. Yeah, something like that. You can play around with the Sebelius. Of course. Alright. And next part for us so far, I'll go, let's play the mesh through cause the box curve should fall down. And second to interiors. And we do not want that. So you get rid of the box. We can use this please. Attack cell cinema for detects display TAC. And at frame 60, we knew, we know it's not visible, so we can use display tick on the miscibility value. Set a keyframe on 101 keyframe or later and see ourselves livers ability to 0 and node from which law and emission again, the capitalists gone, which is a good brides. Next up is our gift box smalls. So we want to again, on the peak of her rearrange it little bit later, but that's our a fixed point for now. We will start to animate it. Or actually, let's start at 55 coat with the cloner. So the keyframe for pitch value, and maybe frame 6060 and give it a value of 90. So we have our basic animation for the sidewalls. How do you feel no out another dynamic texts or you have a little more and it can be more dynamics going on in the urine. It's just more detailed soon animations or Tibet. So again, go to the Ankara and kids and collaborate. And right-click you simulation texts. Rigid body again, disabled it for no. And costume initial velocity again. And maybe a 100 cr. Yeah, maybe we will make the first keyframe, one frame for what and, and Adal. And let's have a look. And it's gone. Compound condition shape fixes the problem because like a child, the axial geometry from the null object and compound condition shape combines, combining altogether, and that's why it works now. So now our sidewalls are gliding on the floor a little bit too much. So let's go to the dynamic body tag off the floor. Maybe increase the friction by ten to a 100. Maybe a little less spawns. That looks not too bad. Gift books himself is done. We can refine our camera animation a little bit. So maybe the angle a little bit more from the top focal length. And when it's exploding, we can assume maybe just you saw the focal length from 6670. Maybe. We can change something. Here. You can also add a vibration tag to our camera. So we can see will lead like a handheld camera. So go to some pretty tags. Vibrate tech to enable the position space y and frequency of 0.2, frequency, a, frequency of 0.52002300 x, right? And 200, maybe 100. Still too much. 100 by 400. Gift box. That animation is finally done. I hope you learn something. Thank you and goodbye.
