About This Class
Let bag maker and pattern designer Katy Cameron walk you through the steps to create a basic tote bag to your chosen dimensions. In this 25 minute class you will learn about what fabric you should use, go through the class worksheet step by step to determine the size of fabric and strapping that you need to cut and establish the amount of fabric and strapping you will need to buy. Once you have calculated your dimensions and cut your fabric accordingly, you will be shown 2 different options for assembling your bag, with a bonus at the end showing a quick and easy way to work with laminated fabrics.
Suitable for beginner sewers who are able to set up their sewing machine for basic straight stitch and zig zag stitch, as well as being able to set their seam allowance, at the end of the class you will be able to make your own customised tote bags like the ones pictured below:
Bag maker and pattern designer Katy Cameron started sewing when she was still at school. Having tried out everything from clothing to teddy bear making, quilting to home decor, she finally settled on bag making as her favourite thing, closely followed by quilting.
Living and working in Scotland, she is a regular contributor to Quilt Now magazine and teaches locally in the Glasgow area, as well as at events further afield. She currently has a small range of independent bag patterns available through her website, The Littlest Thistle
Her website also contains a range of tips and tricks on both bag making and quilting, and you can catch up with her current work both there and on her Instagram account @the_littlest_thistle
