1. Intro: whether you're a Web or a graphic designer, artist or business owner. Creating mood boards will help you find the inspiration and the design direction for your project. You can save and show them in digital form or print amount and show them to your team or clients to quickly determine the design direction off the project. Hi there, Alex. Here from Web. Done it. And in this course you will learn What are the mood boards? What is the difference between digital and print, how to create your mood boards at color images and finally printing them? You're also receiving the video file with all the resources mentioned inside, so you can start using them right away. All you need to get started is ago before the shop, and if you don't have it, you can now load the free trial. So clicking role and let's get you in the mood 2. What are Mood Boards: So what is the mood board? Well, according to the Wikipedia, at least a mood board is a type of collage consisting of images, text and samples off objects in a composition. What that basically means is that you can use mood boards to present all kinds of different projects. You can save them for yourself and for the future. References for the future projects for the project you're currently working on, or you can show them to your clients or a team. For example, if you're doing a logo design project, you can use all kinds of different shapes from the logos that inspire you. You can use different types off funds and show them as well to your clients or a team. If you're doing a website project, for example, you can use all kinds of different images that you think will inspire your client and yourself, Of course, for that project for the photography, for example, you want to visit Paris, and you can quickly do a quick Google search for images off Paris to inspire you off the potential locations the Children to visit before you go to Paris. Actually, so there are very useful in saving you time in saving your client's money and a great tool to do a research and to give you a bit of inspiration. That's why they're called mood boards, because they can get you in the mood so you can start your projects easily and more quickly . 3. Pinterest VS Print: So what is the difference between Pinterest mood boards and BRINK mood boards? Well, the main difference apart, obviously from one being digital and one being on paper, is that you can collect all kinds of different information where quickly on Pinterest. While you can't do that on print, it's also time saving because you can quickly just come to Pinterest, enter your search query and find all kinds of information that you can use in your project . But the main difference is that to show your clients different mood boards, you have to create your own Pinterest boards. For example, you can get lost quite easily and create Ah, hundreds off mood boards. And then when you meet with your client or your team, for that matter, you can scroll down endlessly, basically and showing them all kinds of different mood boards, which may have some sense to you but may not have some sense to the potential client. That's why we find it's much better to create and print your mood boards if your client lives need to you. If he doesn't hear she, you can create mood boards and then send them were email or whatever and showed them like that so they can be a digital. But you can off course, bring them and show them to your clients. So basically, that is the main difference here is how one off the printed mood boards can look like. Of course, for different types of projects, you can use a different amount of images, different types of images and colors and text, and so on. But this basically is the point. As shown here in this image, you can quickly mock up some changes and point them out to your team or clients, for example. Okay, we don't like this color. We don't like this image. Let's quickly change it. You can jump back to photo shop, replace that image, print the mood board quickly and then achieved the desirable results really quickly. 4. Creating a Mood Board: before we start creating our own mood board in photo shop, let me just quickly show you her some samples that we created previously. So here is one. This one has a team of travel, so you can get your mirror in the mood on and show them all kinds of different locations, all kinds of different colors. The circle right here can be used for logo can be used for all kinds of different images for text and so on. These shapes at the bottom represent some sample colors from these images, so you can quickly show your client what kinds of colors may be used in a website or app or a branding project. Whatever you you're doing, so let me just quickly show you a couple of them. So this one is more about fashion. This one more is more about start up environment, so you can see a lot of young people in the office environment clean, very white, very minimal. This is one more for the travel, so you can quickly get your were in the mood and explain them what can be done with these mood boards, Of course, because you're printing them, you can easily show them. And for example, okay, we don't like this image because it stands out too much from these other images. Can we replace it? Maybe put some cityscape image right here, then sample the color from that image to this watch is right here. We don't like this image. Let's replace it. And so one. So let me just jump right in so we can start creating our own moon port because we are using a four paper size here. I'm going to create a four size. But if you're using letter U. S. Letter format, you can do that or any other format. So that you can basically do is come right here to the file new and then choose centimeters . Or you can use millimeters or inches or whatever is your desire for Matt. For the year four is 21. Height is 29.7 and 300 is the resolution because we are going to print out this mood board Simple click OK, Or if you want to save this template, you can name it and just click save preset like Okay, I'm going to unlock this layer by clicking here and because I'm going to use shape players . I'm going to click right here. You is the shortcut. Just click drag Press V on your keyboard for the motile. Move them around so they snap into place. If you don't see this grids, you can come right here to the view show and then click through all of them. I hear pixel and click rulers so you can have these rulers right here and to the left and also include snaps or the elements can snap to the position. Let's delete this layer by clicking. Delete double quick right here. Click BG Interestings for background. It's just shorter and easier. Double click right here, discolored a local pop up select white, for example. And we can start creating our own shapes for the images. So if you remember like I showed you right here, we can create all kinds of different shapes, maybe nine or 10. So again, click right here and drag and draw your first shape. It doesn't have to be exact. It doesn't have to be. You can of course, entered the measurements right here, but some people find it zero. When things are organized, some people find it easier when things are chaotic. It's really up to you how you like to create things so you can change the shape. From here. You can use a rounded rectangle to lip stool polygonal lasso, tool line tool. Or you can use a custom shape toe right here. But we're going to keep this simple and just use normal rectangle Tool double click right here to change its color use D d d for the very light Grey press. OK, use the motile. Move it right here and then hold shift and down Arrow key four times so you can move it 40 pixels to the right, again with four pixels and then just click right here. Hold your left mouse click and drag so we can drag this kite. Do the same right here and then a move This You can quickly do that by holding control. Clicking right here again using the move tool shortcut is we move it to the right by clicking here control de to de select against shift now left four times so it can wait 40 pixels and again used the guide so we can drag it right here. Do the same for the bottom. So control click V for the move tool. And now click right here so you can move it down to the bottom control de to de select shift and the up arrow key four times. So we can only afford pixels, and that's it. Now we have are really organized guides, so they could help us to achieve the consistent look across all of them. So now we can start playing around with these shapes instead of droving, all of them up. You can use a shortcut control J to duplicate this shape holding shift. You can position it down because we used 40 pixels. Maybe he can do the same right here. So four times, Press center. Then maybe you can stretch it down right here. He was this one again. Control G move. It's used for pixels. And now maybe it can snap right here. Maybe we can make it a little bit shorter. Control J. That was a control H. If you want to hide the guides, as you can see here. So 1234 by holding shift so it can wait 40 pixels. 1234 Maybe we can create something like this, maybe. Yeah, let's do it like So now maybe we can create a color searches. So control J to duplicate this one like so. 1234 And now we can reduce its size to around I don't know. Right here. Control G going to a 34 control J 1234 Control J one through 34 Now we have the space left right here. What you can do is simply hold shift than using the move. Tool, click, click, click To select all of them and just drag right here. It doesn't have to really be exact. You can of course, do it that way if you want to do it. But what a sake of time. It's just positioned like so Control J moved this one a bit down to around here. So 1234 down, down to the guide. Now you can see how useful the guides are controlled. J again Move this one to snap right here. That's why we turned to snap on. Move it up into 34 and let's create another one with below 1234 and again, like we did thes once called shift, select and drag so it can snap right here. You can change the colors off all of these shape players simply by selecting one of them. Double click and then change its color. And it'll updates in real time. If you want to use the stroke around it, you can press a on your keyboard. And, as you can see, the fill color is DDT that we used for all of them, and there is no stroke color toe Change that Click here, then here and simply select one of the colors. For example, this one and you can see what it does if I click control age to hide the guides. Eso You can snap image right here. You can change the thickness of the stroke, for example, 20 presenter, and you can see what that does mean. Go back by doing control that a few times, and there you go to keep things more organized, do control H so you can see what I was selecting. You can click on the 1st 1 hold shift, click, click, click and then use Control G so you can create a group and named them colors. For example, you can always to top. You can, of course, keep things organized. You can use this one name. It's number one. This one can be. For example, number two. This one can be free for five, six and finally seven. And now, to keep things even more organized, you can click hold with your left mouse, click and just drag so you can arrange them numerically. Like so. And Terry go. You created your first move board. If I click control H to hide the guides, you can see how it looks like. So in the next video, we're going to include some images right here, just a topic for your mood board. And I will show you how you can sample the colors to put here in these color swatches. 5. Adding Images: OK, in this video, we're going to add images to our newly created mood board. There are really two ways to do this. For example, first way is still just simply drag and drop the image from the folder that you want to use . Press. Okay, right here, Right Click and then create clipping mask so it will clip to this first image that we created using the move, tool and beholding shift. We can scale it down and quick and position it however you want inside of this space, you can use arrows on your keyboard and holding shift. You can nudge it and move it around so it can fit to this space better. But the other way that I'm going to show you is by creating smart objects. In my opinion, that's the better way, because the smart object will keep the image inside without it going out to the borders. So to do that right, click right here, convert to smart object, do the same with all of them. And don't worry, they're holding the shape layer inside. So once you click inside of the smart object, you can change their color like we did before So now what you can do is double click right here to open it up. And as you can see, it will open this shape inside off this new window. Now you can drag and drop the image inside. Position it however you want. I'm scaling and down evenly. Beholding shift old and left. Click to one of the corners and just drag your mouse back and forward toe increased size. Click right here. And of course, as I said before, you can hold shift more with around however you want, and then for it to show right here. What you need to do is click Control s to save it back. And now, as you can see, if I close this smart object if I click it contained the image inside off its borders and to edit the image or change it later, just double click right here to open it up. So those are two different strategies to do that to do things. Um, I personally prefer using smart objects because it's much simple for me. What's to increase the speed you can do? The first mattered. Let me just drag and drop some images I'm using free cc zero images. If you don't know what they are and you want to find out and find some links to them, there are literally millions off CC zero images we have, of course on that. So check that out to find out where to where to get them. Now what you can do is simply start creating your mood board by dragging and dropping these images clicking on the clipping mask, for example. The steam can be I don't know, your client approach to you and he wants a travel website done. And now, to get you your team and that client in the mood, you want to show him what these travel locations usually look like. So you can find out about what kinds of images do you need to use to attract potential visitors to that location? What kinds off weather is out there. What kinds of colors are in the no buildings and nature and so on. So these images will really come in handy for this imaginary project of ours. So again, just drag drop right click, create clipping mask. You can hold shift to position it however you want, for example, right here I don't like this guy, so I will increase the size again. Simply dragging and dropping. You could position it like so to zoom on on the boats seeking showed your clients Okay, Maybe these visitors can maybe rent this boat and they can go out to the sea and they can maybe start fishing or exploring in some locations. You confined this really old boats that people can rent out and go on a day trips, for example. I don't know. Maybe there isn't some Pirates team going on in some locations record. See, right here. Some locations can be what, a Valentine's Day for the couples for the anniversaries and so on for the people who are in love. So maybe you can show that if that is the point of your location. Of course, some locations can have these really old boats. Now, for example, loud enough if you go to Fiji. Maybe some people who are living there for hundreds of years are using this sort of wooden boats. And maybe there is some attraction in the location where you can rent out these boats and go with some local people. Are either fishing or sightseeing. I don't know. It all depends on your location and your client and the project. And so now, to choose colors for this project, which can do is click right here to open up the colors folder. We forgot to name them. Maybe you can click right here. Then type caller one, control A to select control, See, to copy, control veto based. Then simply do this. And again, you can order them if you want. Just things keep this things clean and organized now. And the dominant color is blue. So double quick right here and select a nice blue color. For example, This one now the second dominant color is maybe the color off the scent. So it conduct week right here and select this one. Or maybe just click right here and drag to make it more natural looking and to correspond Better to this one. Third color is the white color, but we're going to use I don't know, for example, discolor. Maybe that's the color off, the off the see and the clouds and so on. And finally some color off the rocks, for example. I don't know. Maybe not this one. Maybe this one, but you get the idea, just click through all of them to find what you're looking for. De Rigo, for example, Debt one. And as you can see, your mood board is ready to go. If you don't like this white background color, that's why we created using the shape layer. Double click right here. And then maybe you can use some different color to make your mood board stand out, for example, on this board and color, it doesn't work in this example. But you get the idea, maybe want to use dark Road like this one. In this example. I'm going to leave it white and that's it. Our mood board is ready to print in the next video. I'm going to show you how you can quickly print your mood board and show it to your clients . 6. Printing the Mood Board: to save out your mood board simply cried here where it says file, then save as and choose your destination, and here you can choose your output format. The best output format for print is pdf file. So search for it right here. There it is. Click save. Then this star look will pop up. But it says the settings blah, blah, blah. It doesn't really matter. Just click. OK, now this Dalek will pop up. You really don't have to do anything right here. Apart from use the size that you want this spring to be so basically smallest file size is going to be the worst quality and high quality print will be the best quality and simply click Save media file again. Click. Yes, and it's it. It's saving right here. When this bar goes out completely, it will save the file, and then you can print it out. When you finally saved located in your folder, simply double click right here to open it up and right here in your adobe acrobat or whichever program you're using, you'll have to simply click on the print, locate your printer and then start printing your mood board and Once you've done printing out your mood board, you can see roughly how it looks like. Sorry about these lines, but the toner on my printer is running low, and I forgot to replace it. But you get the idea. You can print as many of these mood boards you want. Stack them inside of the folder, showed them to her clients. Of course, you can add the hex colors right here below these colors. So let's just quickly do that so we can select colors. Move all of them at once. Hold bolt and then scroll wheel on your mouse, Presti on your keyboard for a textile type something, for example, This I'm going to use regular funds. Smaller size, maybe even smaller. Yeah, something like this. So maybe we can wait to hear control Jade to placate position here, then here and here. What you can do is click here, select the first color by using this color pick. It'll here is the hex color right here. Select control. See, to copy Presti, click control A to select breast V. And now the developer, for example, can no, uh, which color is this one If the client doesn't like this color, and you can double click right here. Change it to perhaps a darker color. Okay, Now we have a different cacs hex code selected, and then simply do this process again. Uh, this is a very good method off showing your developers for either your website or your app , which colors client likes and then and that they can quickly start working on the project. If you like these mood boards, but you really don't have time to create all of them on your own. We do have to products off our own on this one is for the prince. So you have 15 rate to use, move or templates. If you scroll down, you can see how they look like a their boat for a four and U. S. Letter sizes.
