1. Intro: What's up, guys eating here. And in this video I'm going to teach you how to create hybrid reflections in light Roman photo shop. So click below and I will catch you on the other side. 2. From Lightroom to Photoshop: in this video, we're going to learn how to create stunning dramatic reflections. We're going to create an otherwise boring image into a masterpiece. As you can see, it's an incredible difference, and it's just wow and mind blowing. And it's one my favorite images from New York City. So let's get started. First thing you want to do inside a light room is you want to edit your photo. I don't want to do that in this tutorial, since is just for reflections. But I run through exactly what I did here real quick. So here I just out my exposure a little bit since it was under exposed. I brought up my contrast, turned on my highlights, opened up my shadows and gave it a little bit of vibrance. This image was already really lit up and really, really colorful us. It waas so I didn't have to do that much to it. I also came down here to lens corrections and I removed the chromatic aberration, and I also enable profile corrections to get rid of that work that lenses often do. And that's all I really did. I didn't do anything else. So after you do that you want to go into Photoshopped, you want to come into the image you want to, right? Click, and you're going to come down here to edit in and Adobe Photo Shop is going to pop up now if you don't have the cloud. If you have some other type of photo shop, it will also pop up here. So don't worry too much if it looks a little bit different. So we're going to click on that and that will bring it into my photo show. Here we are in Photoshopped. As you can see the same exact image. Nothing has changed. He just brought it from my room into Photoshopped. The very first thing you want to do is you want to press command J, and that will create a duplicate layer. And you can see that on the right hand side over here. Now we're gonna double click where it says layer, and we're going to name it Reflections. It's always good to keep our layers organized and that this will just help you come back. If you ever do need to come back to it once you named your layer, you're going to come up here to this box right here. And this is the corner you want to start out, So I'd like to start on my left hand corner and you're going to want to come down here and just select this whole thing. Now don't cut off the bridge. Do you see that? The bridge is my lowest part. Don't cut that off. You can even give it a little bit more space if you want. So try not to cut anything off from this from this image. And as you can see is not perfectly level is not perfectly even right here. However, that does not matter as long as we have everything from the top or the image in the India rectangle here. Once you do that, you're going to come up here and you're going to right click. You're going to press free transform, and then you're going to right click again and you're going toe klik, flip vertical So that just basically what that did. Is it this reflections layer that we created? It just flipped it basically upside down. Now you're going to grab that with your mouths and you're going to drag it down now when you drag it down, you don't have to necessarily be exactly lined up. You can see them pass it a little bit. In fact, you can pass it quite a bit and I'll show you why here in a minute. So don't worry about laying it up there. You want to pass it a little bit? It's OK to overlap. Going to repeat that? So you don't get confused. It is okay to overlap. You don't have to be perfectly lined up. It is okay to overlap. So I'm going to overlap right about there. Just kind of eyeball it and I'll explain to you why here in a minute. So once that's over, love, you're going to want a press this check mark and place that that layer into place 3. Creating a Blur Effect: now this is where the fun starts. As you can see, we have reflections now, but they don't line up. They don't match up. It's really not quite what we want exactly right, But we're kind of getting there already. You can see very few simple steps, and we're will have a stunning images here shortly. Once you do that, we're going to come to our filter. I hear in your filters. You have the blur. The Blur filters right here. Now I like to use motion blur. A lot of people use other different kinds of filters. Different filters do different things. I personally love motion blur. It is a classic filter that I've been using for a very long time to create all of my reflections. So we'll click on motion Blur, and as you can see, this immediately comes up, and that's exactly how I like it. Now. Your angle always needs to be a 90 degrees, because reflections are 90 degrees on and I'll show you what it does if you change that. See how creates, Um, um, slanted one way or the other. So you just want to come up here and make sure it's on 90 degrees. Now my distance. It's already at 1 50 because that's how you like all my reflections. When you first open your your photo shop, it might say one and it'll look the same. So the trick is to bring this light enough to taste. Ah, and you can mess with it right as much as you want or as little as you want. I mean, you can see you can go all the way up to 2000. But that looks really, really bad. So my my sweet number is 1 50 To me, this just looks epic. It looks good. It looks natural. It just looks really, really, really good. So I really like that. Once you do that, you're going to press OK, and that will be done. 4. Layer Masks and Brushes: So as you can see, we're almost We're getting there. Right? But now you're saying eating. We have all of this overlapping happening right here. Well, let's get rid of it. That's really really, really easy to do. Would you want to do is you want to come up here and add a layer mask? Press on that again. Right here. Added layer must make sure that you're you're still on your, um your reflections layer don't switch back to background a little messed things up, so always just keep it on the reflections there. All right, so now, now that we came down here and added a layer mask You wanna come up here and pick a brush? Okay, so come up here and pick your brush. You can go as big or as small as you want. You can start with a big one and then go smaller. Uh, let's go to like 11 20 right there. 1 24 It's fine. And the hardness you can be a SARD or a soft as you want. Um, let's keep it at 0%. That way you get everything. Um, you get all the you get to see what's in the back. And now make sure you're on the black layer right here. All right, So this is the black if you switch is the white, so make sure you start with the black, and now you click your mouse button and just start painting away this this stuff, right? So you'll just start painting, and you're gonna say, Oh, I I screwed up. I went down to low, right? So don't worry about that. Here, we can go back to this white layer, and then we're campaign. It'll back. Right? So really easy to do. Not nothing too complicated. Um, so we'll go back to the black and let's start painting this away. So what I like to do, I like to paint everything away to where I can see water. Once I see water, Then I'm good. Then I know where everything starts. Right? Soldiers start painting and painting and painting. And here I want to make sure I'm on the bottom of this bridge because I don't want to miss it later on, right. And we'll just paint away and we can see the water right there, and we want to make sure, and we go up high enough. So we paint away when we overlapped Are layer from the get go. Remember, we did some overlapping. So you just want to make sure you go high enough to paint that away. All right, so now we can see her water line Right now we can see her water line. We know exactly where to stop. So here's this is the the nice part about how I like to add reflections. We're going to go back toe are white right here, and we're going to paint in this reflection. However, guys, we're going to leave a little bit You. We don't have to get right up to the edge, see how that's right up to the edge. But then now I'm coming up here. So let's was paint that away and leave just a little bit of water. It's OK if you leave a little bit of water. I want to show you why here in a minute. And usually if you leave more water than less water in your bottom layer is actually better , right? So we'll come back here and we'll just paint some of that and I went too far right there. now come back here and just being some of that in right about there, not I I went over again up here so I could just go back to the black and just paint that away. No problem. I'll come back to the white, and then I'll just keep going, right. So very, very simple. Nothing too complicated. As you can see, there's the water, and I'm still a little bit away from the wall, right? And so you would say, Well, that looks really, really amazing. I mean, that could be that could be a finished image. And you're right. It actually could. And he would look absolutely stunning, right? But we're gonna take it further, and we're gonna make it just perfect. So here on the reflections layer, Master, we had her We're going to double click. So when we double click, this box pops up with properties, See this feathers lighter. We're going to feather feathered this up. And as you can see, the more you do it. So let's go all the way up so you can see what it does. See what it does Allow all the way down. You can still see your water line. Right? So now you feather it up just enough. So you don't see the water line anymore, Or so you can see it a little bit. Ah, blended in, right? And I think that looks really nice. I will come back and we'll paint hopes. Wrong layer. Let's go to the black and will paint away some of that feathering just to make sure it's just perfect. I'm a perfectionist, so this needs to be just perfect. And he will come back to the white layer and you couldn't even paint in a little bit more of this. All right? Just a tad more Nothing too crazy, just enough. And that looks really, really good. Now there's a little bit right there. I went over a little too much, and now what I like to do, Guys, I like to always put my head back, maybe look at the computer from about three or four feet away and just make sure it looks really, really nice. I also like to get really, really close my face really, really close to the screen. And it also make sure that it looks good. And at this point, I'm very, very happy with the image 5. Correcting the Exposure on the reflections: right. So now that this is done, we're gonna take it a step further and make it that much better, cause this could actually be a complete image, right? This could actually be completely done. You could be done with it, and you could move on and just be done. But we're gonna perfect it even more. So what we want to do here, we're going to come up here and click our exposure. This is our exposure adjustment. And now, which is adjust the entire image if we click this exposure slighter right here. But do you see this little box right here? We're going to click that. What that means is that it's on Lee going to adjust this bottom layer are reflections, layer. Once you have that click, then you can adjust risk exposure, and you can make it even brighter or darker. Now, I'd like to go darker for one reason. Because when you're inviting the viewer to the image, um, you are inviting him to see the skyline, right? You don't want him to see the reflections first. You want him to see the skyline first. You know, your your eye leads into the skyline following this beautiful bridge. And then you see the reflections. So we want to do is won't want to bring that down a tab. You can bring it down as much as you want. Um, obviously, that doesn't look good, but you can. Ah, it started zero again And just, Iet, where it looks good to you on. I think that looks really, really nice right about there. So minus 90 maybe minus one. Looks good. So if in doubt, stay around minus one and you'll be OK now, after that, go hide that. And that looks really, really, really incredible. That could actually be a finished image. Now, if you want to take it a bit further, guys, you can come here to your curves and you can, ah, bring this down a little bit, make it more moody, maybe like right about there, and then bring this bad boy up. That's too much. Maybe right about there. Just subtle changes. And as you can see, our images looks like a 1,000,000 bucks. 6. Finishes in Lightroom : now to save this back into your lie room. This thing is done is complete. You don't have to do anything else to it. To say this back into light room. Would you want to do is you want to come to file, You're going to press save as you can see right here. It's saving it now. It says that it saved, so we'll go back into her life room and there it is. There's or image. It brought it in already. It's ready to go. And, as you can see when he comes back into light room, it doesn't have any adjustments. Now. You can keep adjusting it if you want. If you're done and you can just be done with it, but you can keep it. Keep adjust in it. However, I think this image is complete. You don't want to overdo it. You don't want toe exaggerated two months. You just want to add your reflections. Make this an epic photo. Maybe if it's a little target and bringing the whole thing up like that, keep your contrast. Just subtle changes whatever you see fit. But that's it, guys. That's how you create epic reflections in light room and Photoshopped. So thank you guys. So much for watching.
