About This Class

Welcome to the Half Moon Earrings class! If you've watched any of my other jewellery making video classes you'll already know that I like to get the most out of my tools and equipment - after all, they've cost me money so they need to pay their way! One of my favourite (yet more expensive) pieces of equipment is my disc cutter. It is very good quality but is still doing as good a job now as it did when I bought it ten years ago, but to get best value for money I like to use it for more than just cutting full discs.

In this class I will teach you a simple method for cutting out half circles using a disc cutter and, by adding a couple of jump rings and a pair of earwires, how to turn them into lovely earrings. I will also show you a little of the pick soldering method. This is a way of using your solder pick to more accurately place the solder on your work.

This is one of a series of video classes, each one showing you how to quickly and easily make a lovely pair of earrings - sometimes two pairs - as part of my #52earrings challenge. I have challenged myself to design and film tutorials for 52 pairs of earrings in 2017, and I'd love you to join me. In each video I will show you the materials you will need, explain the tools and equipment and go through all the steps needed to create your own lovely pair of earrings. Along the way I will share with you the same hints and tips that I teach in my jewelry making classes and private tuition so that you become more confident with your techniques and design skills with each class that you watch.

This class is for all abilities, from beginner jewellery makers upwards. The soldering is fairly simple on this project, but I will also show you a basic introduction to pick soldering to help you advanc your skills.

The equipment needed for the project is explained in the videos and also listed on a downloadable document that covers most of the tools that I will use in future earrings video classes as well so you can plan ahead! All the equipment listed can be used for a variety of other jewellery making projects.

Another clear detailed class. Joanne talks you through each step and really makes you feel it is possible for you to complete the project.
Joanne produces great classes which are easy to follow. This one shows a great way of getting half moon shapes with a nice texture. Why not give it a try?

Jewellery Designer, Tutor and Writer

I have been making my own jewellery for as long as I can remember and left my first career as a school teacher to set up business as a jewellery designer and tutor nearly 10 years ago. I am self-taught and like many people I started with wire and beads. Learning how to solder, however, opened up a whole new world of jewellery making! There is something so magical about watching solder flow through a seam, joining two pieces of metal together smoothly.

I work from my studio on the south...
