Our thoughts and beliefs are exceptionally powerful influences that shape the entirety of our lives. They affect what we think, say, and do. Lack of awareness can allow mind chatter and conditioned beliefs to run our lives in a disruptive way that seems beyond our control.

In Guided Meditations for Calming Thoughts & Shifting Beliefs, I will assist you in becoming aware of thoughts and beliefs that are driving your life. From there, we'll use contemplative and meditation techniques to calm the mind and shift unwanted beliefs that are holding you back. 1. Meet Joseph: Hello. My name is Joseph Drumheller, and I am your instructor for this course would like to start off by thanking you for your interest in this course and extending you a very warm welcome. So please allow me to introduce myself just a little bit further. I've been working in the worlds of meditation and healing since 1991. I started off as a clinical hypnotherapist, then later evolved into what I would call an energy healer. And I really honed my chops as a healer When I spent six years working in a cancer radiation treatment facility using meditation and healing techniques to help cancer patients. I'm also a four time award winning author on the topics of meditation, healing and spirituality. So any time if you get stuck in this course I have a question. Please don't hesitate to contact me because I love asking questions for my students. So thanks once again for your interest in this course. Now let's go to class and I'll see you there 2. Lecture - Calming Thoughts: Hello and welcome to the lecture on calming thoughts. Our mind is composed of two basic components. The conscious mind and the subconscious mind in this lecture will be discussing the conscious or thinking mind, which is on full blast during our waking hours as humans, we're exposed to a bombardment of thought every day. It's estimated that the average human brain generates nearly 60,000 thoughts a day. That's close to about one thought every second. With that amount of thought being generated, it's safe to say thinking isn't something you do. Thinking is something that happens to you. Some of us experience so much thought it connects to become an annoying critical chatter commonly refer to as the monkey mind. The monkey mind can generate such incredible distraction, but it can make us believe things that are not true or even inappropriately affect our behaviour. When we begin to understand that thinking is something happening to us, we can begin to understand we are not our thoughts. At that point, we could begin to see the mind as an intelligence support system. They're at our disposal, not as a grueling task master. The key lies and becoming detached then you can decide when to listen to your mind and went to ignore it. This is where medication can become an incredible tool to help calm the mind. However, it's best to accept from the beginning. Eliminating thought during meditation is not the goal. Thoughts will be with you, so it's a good idea to let them float through like clouds drifting by in this guy. Then you can allow them to be well, being unattached. Somewhat like having a painting hanging on the background or a wall. Has your meditation practice matures? You'll have moments without thought. Combined with great clarity, however, thoughts will likely return man. Once again, you could become peacefully and pleasantly attached. It's one of those things that takes a few seconds to learn, but a lifetime to master. So that's it for the brief discussion on meditation and calming thoughts. Now let's move on to the next video, and I'll see you there 3. Lecture - Shifting Beliefs: Hello and welcome to the lecture on shifting beliefs. Beliefs are a type of thought that run a little deeper than the incessant chatter of the monkey mind to gain a little better understanding. Let's start off with a definition. So here we go. Beliefs are a state or habit of mind in which something is accepted or considered to be true, and those accepted truth can be very strong. They can affect every aspect of our lives, everything from the things we think to the very things we say and the very things we do. And in a worst case scenario that can be exceptionally unbending, most people will express their beliefs as a statement of absolute truth, such as to get a good job. You need a good education or technology is the way of the future, or marriages don't last or capitalism is the only way to prosper. I encourage you to take a few minutes to reflect on your own statements of truth that shape your view of the world and see how those beliefs are acting out in your life. You may be surprised at what you come up with. Well, then where did my beliefs come from, which is a very good question. And I'll tell you in one word, it's called conditioning, and it's influences are huge and shaping your perception of yourself in the context of the world in what you live. So what is conditioning? Well, conditioning is received input through thought, word or action that influences your behavior. For most of us, it happens when were quite young. So what that means is we don't know where conditioned. We simply accept the ideals and beliefs that have been placed upon us from the outside. Okay, well, then, where does conditioning come from? Well, we usually don't have to look very far for most of us. It starts in our immediate families. For instance, some of my beliefs about pursuing a career as a healer were shaped by the views of my family. They thought I was out of my mind, and some of that stuck with me. And it has been quite an internal hurdle at times that I've had to overcome. However, conditioning isn't just limited to our families. You can probably think of numerous is influences from your culture, your schools, your religion or your peer groups who measure you up to conform to a certain way of being, and sometimes that measuring up can be quite ruthless. And most strongly of all, our conditioning is bombarded on all of us from the media beginning from the time we're born. We could hit by TV magazines on the Internet who all reinforced over and over again that we need to be rich, beautiful and sexy in order to be important and happy. So what is the result of all this conditioning? Well, first and foremost, conditioning trains us to compare ourselves with the perceived ideals that other people supposedly uphold. Remember, we're supposed to be rich, young and beautiful, from their comparison creates inner conflict because none of us can blew up. The ideals were conditioned to, and once we've created inner conflict, were positioned toe little life. That was stress and suffering. And those stresses can push us relentlessly into depression, self hatred, resentment, frustration and even suicide because it's simply not possible to be someone else, although that's who were trained to be. However, there is good news. If you don't like the beliefs you've discovered inside yourself, they could be changed, and meditation is a great tool to do that with the key to changing your beliefs lies in awareness and detachment. Once you become aware and detached from your beliefs that you want to change, you can release and or transform those beliefs during meditation. Hopefully, you'll change yours into something much more beneficial and to your liking. So let's move on to the meditation to calm your mind and shipped your unwanted beliefs. I'll see you there. 4. True Story - The Canoe Monkey Mind: This is a little example that I went to about 10 years ago. It has living in Bellingham, Washington was in the process of moving from one place to another, and I had a couple of canoes. So in negotiating the new lease with my landlord, I asked me It's OK to store my views on the property. He said, Yeah, sure, no problem. Just come on, you know, store behind the shed back there. So I took my canoes when I was moving in, and I went back to the shed. And when I went there I noticed that there were two other kayaks there already. They were very old. They were son. Least there was weeds growing through have been taking care of energy used for a long time . So what I did is I took those two kayaks and I move them to the side of the shed. And I put my canoes where the kayaks were, because it was that better place to store. The canoes is more out of sight and out of the way. So about a week later, I went back to load of my canoes to go on a canoe trip and I looked in the side of the shed and there was no two kayaks were gone. So what I had done as it moved them to a more visible cited sign in the shed. Somebody saw and they ripped him off. And I just felt terrible, so my mind started going crazy. What should I do? Should I tell my land work? Well, he never used on their old. He didn't lock him up. You didn't take very careful. So I thought it over for a day or so. So I finally decided, I'm not gonna say anything. I'm gonna do nothing. And so over the course of the next week, my mind started going crazy. It's like, you know, I can't believe that he didn't take care of his kayaks and, you know, it's probably gonna want me to pay for months. He finds out what happened, reminded start crazier, crazier it was bringing up. It's called a subconscious emotional charge. My past It was so strong. And so I kind of lived with those rumblings for about a week. And then about a week after that, I saw my landlord back by the shed. Oh, great. So you know he's found out a very go spill the beans, you know what happened. So I go back there around side of ship and he's unloading the kayaks that he had taken the lead before because it's East Nephew were visiting from out of town. And so what do you do? The cracks were missing. They were stolen. And, you know, all the craziness was only inside my head, and it drove me crazy to the plant where I had to go get some healing help. So that's one of my stories of the monkey mind. I'm sure you have some of your own, so that's just some of the chaos that can go on in your mind. You're unaware your So let's be one of the next lecture. I'll see you there. 5. Contemplation - Calming Thoughts & Shifting Beliefs: Let's start by slowing down the mind. Take a few deep slow breaths until you feel grounded and centered. Take a moment to reflect how much of your life is dictated by the incessant and noisy chatter over the monkey mind. Does it ever convince you to believe things that are not true about yourself? Others or the way the world ISS breathe deeply and allow those thoughts to relax? Take just a moment to reflect on your beliefs. We're what beliefs and perceptions do you hold and state as absolute. Fax. What would it be like if you expand it or challenged some of those beliefs? No way, Way. How much of what you believe has been influenced by your family, your culture, your schools, your religion, your friends or the media. If you could let go of any of those influences, what would they be? Do your beliefs from conditioning put you in conflict with what you perceived to be ideal? What would it be like to be free of those comparisons? - Imagine what it would be like if your beliefs were built upon inner peace that was in complete alignment with who you are way 6. Meditation - Calming Thoughts & Shifting Beliefs: hello and welcome to the meditation on thoughts and beliefs. So the very act of relaxing or meditating will automatically start to slow down your monkey mind or your mind chatter. And so we'll start there by deeply relaxing. And then we'll go into modifying some beliefs have about your finance. So go ahead, take a deep breath, make sure you're situated in a comfortable position with your spine straight. Close your eyes and we'll start to relax. So go ahead and take another deep breath. Just begin to let go, to unwind, to release the cares and the concerns of the day. And as you begin to relax, I'd like you to imagine if you can being a golden light coming down from above and entering in through your crown chakra or the top of your head, And this beam is a wonderful warm wave of relaxing. Just allow it to begin to penetrate into your brain so you can feel your brain. Start to relax. As your thoughts begin to slow down, just bring it again. You begin to unwind and the like. Now allow this incredible wave of relaxation to penetrate every cell of your brain. Your brain becomes heading and relaxed, and you can feel this energy moving down into the base of your spine, moving down from your brain, slowly moving down all the way down. So from your brain. Well, the tip of your spying very relaxed. You're very Call your deeply at peace. Feel this brilliant golden relaxing energy begin to extend out from your spine. It's your entire nervous system, so every nerve in your body begins to slow down. Relax in a peaceful state of deep relaxation from the top of your head, all the way out to the ends of your nervous system. You're very deeply relaxed. You're very calm. You're totally at peace now. Allow your awareness to drift back to the top of your head so you can feel this relaxation . Begin to extend over the outside of your body so you can feel it in your hair and scalp in your head as it moves into your forehead. Your temples, your eyes moving down into your nose, your cheeks cheekbones, your entire face, the muscles in your face so your job becomes very heavy and very relaxed. This incredible relax ation moves in your teeth. Your lips and your tongue in your cheek so that your entire head is completely enveloped in deep. Relax ation and allow this relaxation to continue by moving down into your throat in your neck, gently moving into your shoulders and down into your arms as your arms became to become increasingly heavy. Does this relax Ation moves all the way out into your hands, out to the tip of each finger and stuff from the top of your head all the way out to the tips of your fingers. You're very deeply relaxed. Very call when you're totally at peace and it feels so nice to be so deeply relaxed. Allow your attention to go back to your shoulders. With this deep relaxation is and feel the energy of relaxation moving down into your upper body so you could feel it in your back, even inside your torso into your organs, like your heart so your heart beats perfectly relaxed. Piece wasn't into your lungs and into the center of your breath so you breathe without effort, and every breath takes you into a deeper state of peace and feel the relax ation moving into all of your other internal organs. so they all function in harmony and peace together. Is this incredible? Relax. Ation moves down into the lower half of your body. You could feel it in your legs. Has your legs begin to become increasingly heavy? Deeply relaxed because the relax ation moves into your thighs going to your knees and your shins, your cows, your ankles. Finally all the way down to your feet, no tip of each toe, so that from the top of your head, all the way down to the tips of your toes in the tips of your fingers, you're very deeply relax. You're very calm, and you're totally at peace. And it feels so nice. So deeply. Relax. Now, as you continue to relax more deeply and to become more deeply at peace, I'd like you to call up one of your challenging beliefs about money or about your financial situation. Maybe something like money is difficult to make from when he was suitable evil, where money slips through my fingers. Whatever it iss, just give yourself a moment to allow your belief of money that may be holding you back. We're keeping you from reaching your full financial potential. Allow that belief to come up now and pay attention because you'll most likely stated as an absolute statement of truth. Just take a moment. Allow that belief to Sergio. Now, as you focus on that belief, that statement or perception of truth, I'd like you to allow yourself to personify that believe allowed to turn into a person. So what would the person look like that would represent? That belief could be even an object or an animal. But whatever it ISS, allow your awareness to focus on that embodiment of as you continue to breathe to relax, I'd like you to imagine or be aware of a different belief, one that's the exact opposite of the belief that you were just became aware of. So if your belief ISS when it comes to any difficulty on the other believe could be money comes to me with great ease. So whatever it is, allow your mind your subconscious for yourself to come up with the belief that is the exact opposite of your 1st 1 And when you have that statement of perceived truth, I'd like you to personify that belief. Also let it turn into a person object. We're symbol take this tomorrow. So now what? I would like to do, you know, to symbols to personifications of two opposing the leaks. And I would like you to allow those two beliefs to begin to come together. They're two people that can shake hands or hug. They're two singles. They could merge into one another. Whatever it ISS go out them to begin to merge into each other until they're completely integrated. You may feel some shifts in your body movement in your energy, whatever it is, stick with it for a few moments and allow those opposing energies to integrate into a place of peace. And when those two energies air completely integrated in tow, one you could personify that new belief also may take elements of truth out of each belief . And it may be something like my financial situation is safe and secure, or whatever it is for. You allow this new energy to be solid, strong, unshakeable on whatever it is for you to create belief because you have this new belief that's integrated. I'd like you to take it in your hands. Take this belief in tow both of your hands. Cup your hands together And then I want you to place both hands in your heart so you can feel this belief emerging into your body into the very depths of your being every cell of your body and allow your attention to focus on the sensation until you feel like completely integrated into your body and it's completely at peace. You can come back to this feeling in the sensation whenever you like. Simply by thinking about this will give a life in substance and to help further integrated into your daily. Go ahead, take another deep breath allowed to emerge fully into your body into your energy field and when you're ready was absolutely no hurry. Please take your time when you feel like you're finished. We've been slowly open your eyes and gently drift back in in the conscious world. Yeah, yeah 7.
