1. Promo Video: Hello and welcome in Thetis after effects class, where we are going to make a great transition project, including minimum interesting tips and tricks inside adobe after effects. This class is mostly suited for people who already know a little bit about after effects, or at least about its interface. It's not only about completing the product, it's about learning to utilize after effects and its functions. So get ready. Get referred toe. Learn a new workflow to create this very nice transition, and I will see you insight. Let's start. 2. Introduction into the content: Hello and welcome to this quick introduction into this lecture into this class. I really am glad that you chose this class to be here with me. Because the transition we will do will be a transition between one and a second photograph The end result. We look like that we have to fold the plane. This nice, great goes forward and we showcased the second photograph. Very fluent, very precise. And you learn so many great things about after effects, for example, cropping compositions to two photographs, which is a bit difficult because we need to work with the region of interest. But the end results are so rewarding. And once you are able to create a project like this, you'll just get better at after effects. So I'm really happy to start working with you. Proceed to the next lecture. We will start by downloading photographs. I'll show you the best place to do so and then we can start to work right away and after effects. It doesn't matter if you have C s six versions or the newest after effects CC 2018 version or any newer one, because those are simple, simple key frames. Simple techniques which can be used across old versions. So see you inside. Let's go forward and we will start the work very, very soon. I'm waiting. 3. Downloading Photos: Hey, welcome at the start. Let us open off the work. At first, we need something toe work with, and we need at least 10 photographs. So one website where we can download photographs for free is pixels dot com. The reasons I've selected pixels is because when we go when we select a photograph and we go toe, it's download page here on the right side, we can change its size so we don't have to download those big 6000 pixels images, which will take up a lot of space. We can use normal full HD. This is even more than for Ligety. If you would like to work Onley perfectly Fellini canvas, just select custom and I think I will do this. I will select 1920 by Okay, thank you. My 10 80. I'll try to select such type of photographs. I don't mean the content of photograph, but landscape photographs like that, something like like this'll like a sleeping lion. Something like that. And I'll download everything either on the original size or on the full HD 10 80 size. I'll decide upon that in a moment. We need at least two main photographs and the rest. Photographs will be like for the entire shift, the entire transition. So right now, you should go also either two pixels or to another website where you like to download photos from and download, then photographs. Before that, we cannot proceed. We want to be perfectly prepared and I'll do this right now as well. Okay, I've preferred my photographs. I have all 12 photographs in in total. It doesn't matter. We have to. We need to have at least 10 in orderto to have to work easy. And it's also great here on this website is that if you select this custom size it crops automatically the top and bottom off this image. So you don't have to worry about cropping it. You just select, for example, there in 1920 By 10 80 it will automatically crop out of 200 pixels. It won't skew the image like make the image the same just smaller. But it crops the top and bottom. So this is also very, very useful. All right. I'm prefer to work. I want to go forward. So I will wait for you until you download the photos as well. And we see each other in the next step. See you there 4. Create the main photo frame: All right, We have our photographs. It's time to get to worth police. Open up after effects. Let me move to process. Here, create a new composition in your aftereffect. It should meet full into the in size, 30. Frame rate and adoration. It should be around five seconds, Maybe six seconds. We'll see how long this will turn out how long the transition would last. So the first step you want to take you want to prepare the first pre composition. For that, you need to click on the rectangle to, but make sure that you have a rectangle you can click and hold. Here, you see the options you want indirect angle. All right. Once you have selected direct angle, just double click on this option and this will automatically fill the screen with a rectangle to the size of the composition. You can see we have shaped their number one, and this will be our pre come our placeholder for the first photograph, which we will integrate later. We need to pre compose this because everything we do here, we want the photograph to change later and we don't want to think about the photo. We just want to drop in the photo, and the transition should work automatically. So this is like the starting point. So you can right click and selling recompose. Or you can use the shortcut control shift or command shift. See, maybe I'll cold us photo one. Okay, Now, having such a pre composition will make the work much, much easier because our transition were start something with a smaller photo. Okay, Our first adjustment before we continue to work is to take the anchor point and move it to the left topside Press. Why on your keyboard? Take the anchor point and place it on the top left side. You can come closer with your scroll. We don't. With this space, you can move around. I'll come closer and I will try to position Well, it doesn't have to be pixel perfect, but you should try to make it escort this possible. Okay, Now I know that the anchor point from this place holder is in the right place. Why did I make the anchor point on the left side? Because here in the photo one. You also want to press scale which is s and you want to make the photo of its smaller. And if the anchor point was in the middle, it would shrink towards middle. But I want to move this to the left, then scroll everything to the left and then to showcase the photo, which will be on the right side. So this is why I made the ankle went here in order that it shrinks toward the anchor point . Now let us make the photo. This should be an animation. So you start at 100. You place a key frame. If you go one second forward. Something about that. We can always change this and make it 60%. Something around this ice may be too small, but this is the base for our animation. So in this lecture, the first Lecter, this is a very essential lecturer. You want to create a shape, you want to create a placeholder out of it. You can just right click and select pre composed. You want to move the anchor point to the left upside and you want to make a very simple animation like that going towards the left upper corner. This is because we want to populate this with other images. So I want this to shift to decide. All right, this is it. For the first lesson I hope you are following. You should know, pause the video and do the same on your project. Create pre composition, move, anchor point. Make it smaller to around 60%. I see you in the next lesson. Once you're done with that, and then we will continue our cool work. 5. The easy and hard way to do this: Okay, Now, this will be a bit off work because we have to make new photos, new compositions here the easy way. I will show you two ways how to do this and we'll go the harder way because I want you to learn more in after effects. Now, the easy way would be to take the photographs we have allergist import to example photos. We would place the photo. We would make it smaller. Just so it fits for because we want the photo here, A photo here on the bottom photo here on the bottom. Right. But for this corner, I would take this photo and I'll just pre compose it and put it under the photo boom. Basically, if we layer everything Well, this is ready. Later on, we can double click here and place the entire photo. This is the a little bit easier way, but the harder way would be to make a composition. And this is a composition color composition which perfectly fits here. Now, depending on what you want to do, I'll show you one example here and let me show you how. Okay, I'll delete this photo for now. Also, delete this pre composition and I'll come closer to create my rectangle. I would select my rectangle tool. I would quickly change to any other color. And I try to create a perfect rectangle here. I would come closer. Of course, I would make sure with my wiki that it's perfect. Okay, I wouldn't be selected. And now I know that this nearly perfectly double click here. Okay, This now nearly perfectly covers the right side of the screen. And if you want to make a composition like that, you want to take this? You want to press control shift, see to pre compose it and what has happened? You have a big composition with this in the corner. But how to make the composition to be cropped to this area? It's a bit counterintuitive because yeah, after effects is giving us a hard time here. But I was DoubleClick toe. Enter this composition. I would think closer. I would take my region of interest. Button. You can take this. You can start from the corner boom, and you want to make the region of interest perfectly aligned to this rectangle. Well, it can be a bit big, a little bit bigger It's no big issue, but I want to try to make it really, really close. Okay, this seems close to perfect. And once I have the region of interest, you can easily de selected to check out if you did well, I have the region of interest. You just go to composition and crop come to region of interest. Boom. I'm closing this with comfortable W or commendable, you and you can see I have no a perfect composition off this size, which fits here. Now, this project is a bit difficult because the absolutely easiest way would be to use the pictures like that or to just duplicate this one object and duplicated everywhere and have all of the same. But I want to show you a few practical tips in after effects because later on, if you do an easier product, you'll have no problems. Okay, so I did this first pre come. It's no perfectly set to the corner to cover each other. Okay? And I want to try to create one here and one here as well. The great thing is that this is a pre composition. I'll move this down. So I have my photo to preferred. Maybe let's make this the main one orange. So we see that this is the most important frame because this is the entire picture frame which re sizes from the entire screen toward the left corner. Don't worry about that. This would be animated together later on, but right now, I would like to make more compositions for the bottom side. 6. Filling out the screen with Compositions: I think you hate me now that we are going the hard way. But as I said, this will teach you so much about after effects. And this is really important knowledge and making the next rectangle the pressing V. Trying for it to be perfect. Okay. I want to make sure it can. It can be extended outside the screen. That's no problem. Just end result needs to be as close as possible to this corner. Okay, we have this one. Just create another one. Having de selected everything. Just another color blue on K and the blue on will go here. Okay. It seems really perfect. I need to make sure that I placed this on the bottom. This on the bottom because I want the photo number one always to be first because it has to showcase those corners. Okay, this one right click recomposed. Enter this one pre composed enter. Perfect. Mm. Double click on this one. Did you remember region of interest? You could drag it from the corner out. You can come closer with the scroll wheel, and you can make it a bit small. Okay, It'll automatically step composition Krupp comp to region of interest. Now we have a perfect compulsion. And later on, if we put the images here, it will be so easy. We just dropped the image. It automatically is the 1st 1 And look Boom. Of course, it has to be in the perfect place, but it will be so much easier and quicker to work later on. Okay, this is the last one which we want to do now. And what do we want? We want again the region of interest. Boom! Flick it here. Okay, close birth. We have that composition trim. Come toe work area. Oh, sorry. Not not to work Area crop camp. Of course. Close it down. Photo three photo four. And you could continue and do as many off them as you like for the sake of the later animation. If you feel comfortable that you learn something and you just want to duplicate them, I'll show you in the next lecture how to duplicate this properly in order to to finalize this transition on the right side. And I think for the sake off off learning this This is not enough what we did. So you need to have four compositions which will make the mainframe and your main animation has to be the first left top one with anchor point here. The rest is not important. The rest should be perfect. Compositions like that. All right, I'll see you in the next lesson. I'll show you how to properly duplicate that and how to work with that further along. 7. Duplicating the Compositions for the transition: okay. Very, very important and interesting lessons ahead of us now. Because now I have so much freedom since we have oiled the screen prepared. You see those photos here Right now? I want to name everything properly because we will. We will easily get messed up if it there's to any object the Camp one, Select Control or Command K. Call it transition, transition one. Because I want to know that this is the actual transition. Now there is a distinction between the project panel and the timeline. Look at that Photo number four. If I duplicate this here, it will copy over this object. If I change the object, it will change on all those which I duplicated. So duplicating here duplicates the actual layer but duplicating here in the project panel at a new composition. So if I duplicate this here control D I move it around? Sorry, I don't move it around. I moved this around. This is now a totally separate composition. You can see they're not the same. This is the moved one. This is the old one. So it's very important that if you want to duplicate those, you are using this project panel. I will explain you in a second on the practical method because we want to duplicate those and put them outside of the screen. If you would duplicate them here, they would just b doubles off the same one. But if we duplicate this here we create new compositions. Okay, the names also read. Click rename photo to folding tree. My purse entered, renamed them photo for Okay, Now we are perfectly prepared. No, I want to duplicate everything. Shift, Click everything. Control d while photo five, 678 All those compositions did duplicate. Now we need to place those compulsions somehow for dead. I want to press control are to open up the rulers to make the work a bit easier for me in order to create the rule is you can also use this panel because you can open rulers guides and the grit. The grit won't be necessary now. Okay, I want to click here and we want to create two rulers. Sorry if this is moving fast, but you need to understand the workflow. Perhaps you watch the video first and then you try to do this. I'll come closer and I placed the ruler here. This will make it easier to move those optics. So I take another ruler and replace it. He okay? Perfect. So I have rulers for this animation. I've already duplicated this those layers. So now I want to take all four of them and I want to drop them in. Boom. Just like that. You see, they are clustered, one on the other. And why is this one big? Okay, this is the photo number one. We can also make this orange because this is the 2nd 2nd most important photograph. This is the end photograph. This is the beginning photograph. And this is the and photograph. You want to press s and make it as well. 60% Because we want the same animation toe happen on this right now. They should be off the same size. Okay? Yes, they are. And this should be placed on the right, both corner. And you see now why do I have the rulers? The rulers perfectly snapped me this object. Okay. I want to make this symmetrical. So the blue one. Okay. It's the red one. The right don't. Here. The big one here and the blue in here Okay. In order to make this perfect how come closer, I just drop them a bit. I will take this one. I connect them. They don't have to be like super, super, super precise. But I want to make this good as good as possible. All right. The coroner is prepared. Well, and right now we have this animation prepared. We have those four and those four we duplicated. Now we can finally finally create the animation. I'm glad that we did set this to 60%. I will end a lesson here because your task in this lecture was to duplicate the 1st 4 you created. Get the rulers and place the second for hear us. Well, I'm happy that we have separate compositions for that. Between photo one and five, transition will happen and we have to animation property for for key framing. So in the next lecture will learn another cool thing about parenting. So I can't wait to see their police create this like I did, or at least try to get us close. And very soon everything will be more transparent to you. What is actually happening here? So see you in the moment and we will continue in the next lesson. 8. Make the animation happen: Okay. Hey, welcome back to our work. Now, every time comes clean, we want to create the animation and look at that. You want to select photos? Photos 234 And the last one. So 234 and five. In my case, you want to apparent them with the first photograph. Just click on parent and connect them right now you can see they will recite all together. I'll get out like that. And the last three ones, They should follow this one this second photograph. So the last three months should be just connected. Parented the photo five. Sorry it didn't snap. Okay, Right now everything will have precise. Together. I'll show you in a moment why they are separate. And if you don't see the parenting option just right, like you're on the columns panel select columns and select parent. So you've created the first animation. The first animation is the first photograph in our main screen. The information flows now, something will happen. And then the second focus appears so in order to something happen. You want to take the first photograph? You want to press you to show the key frames and you want to make the second intermission right about here. So you press shift P open up the position you keep frame it you go again One second forward or something like that Anti changed position by holding the shift key. It gets a bit quicker because you want Now this this right Photographed the last photograph to be perfectly in the corner. Okay, I'll come a bit closer so it looks a bit better. Okay. Really, really nice If the photo position isn't right, so I can just take the photograph. I want to make sure with my arrow keys that this is now perfectly in the corner because it will make the work later on easier. And I guess we have to animation prepared. We can also take this and place it a bit down or even just make it tiny bit bigger. OK, so it covers the topside here. OK, right now we have the animation like that. The first photo is appearing. We have a little transition boom. And now the second photo appears. You can probably imagine what will happen now right about here, where it ends. You should make the last key, Frings. You should take the second photograph, He should press s like scale. Click on the scale. Go forward. And here one second later, it should extend to the entire screen. The entire screen should be about 160%. And you see my mistake. I didn't move the anchor point to the right side. I press quickly. Why? I changed the anchor point to be here. I go back to my scale and I'll scale this up. Now you see why those three we're connected to this one? Look okay. At the very end, they'll resized together. Okay, I want to make sure that I extended to the entire screen. Am I doing this properly? Where is the composition ending about here. Okay, this is enough. Now it's perfectly extended. So the animation looks like that. The animation to start it shrinks, it moves it Gross. Okay, perfect transition. In the next lecture, I would like to show you how to adjust the key frames to make the animation a bit better. And we will put their photos in. Once we put the photos in, I'll showcase to you how such transitions are used in real life. This is just the beginning so stay tuned. Please go to the next lesson to adjust the key frames just a tiny bit and we will work from there. 9. Adjusting the animation: all right. I'm so happy we arrived here. No matter if you do the product right away or if you are watching the videos. I see a slight gap here. But this could be corrected. You could just resize this. This is no problem. And the animation now looks as follows. Very slow and boring animation. Okay, We definitely definitely need to a justice. I see. Also a small gap here, so I need to take the photo of ref number one and put it back a few frames. Okay, this would be perfect. Now the animations you can take older key frames. I also press shift to connect those key frames you can write Flick on the bottom here. It's invisible now on the screen because it went involved. The screen. You can press on key frame assistant and you can Easy, Eastham. The animation will flow a tiny bit better. Would we still want to adjust this a bit? Definitely the scale. Look at it. Let's focus on the scale. Okay. It could begin a big quicker. So you place the graphic designer. You click on the graphic ditore. You select a speed graph and you want to make the beginning of it quicker. So you move it to the left side and this one back. Okay, let's preview that. You see? No, the beginning is a bit quicker, because this is a bit more steep. This is speed per second. Okay, I really like, But it should move quicker now. It should already start moving, so let's proceed to the next ones. The next one is position. Position from what I see. Could start a bit. Area could end a bit quicker and could be, like a bit more fluent. Okay to slow. Let's maybe not in that side again to start quicker. No, maybe more balanced and start quicker. Yes. This start to look. I don't want to say promising, but this is just a normal key frame. We can go here. It is just like moving this key frame in case you don't notice. All right. The animation starts to look nicer. Now we just have to click on the last ones. The scale. Okay, this scale? A bit quicker. A bit more. Adjust that. Maybe try quicker at the beginning. Let's see. Okay, Something like that. Maybe quicker, even quicker. Yes. This now looks more fluent. So the position and scale maybe the scale Maybe the position will start quicker. Perfect. Now they everything moves fluently and ghost together. Don't worry about this little gap. We can just resize those a bit. This will be barely visible and we can cover this gap. Okay. Somehow we managed to create this cool animation. And don't worry about those colors overlapping because those are different. Completely different compositions. Once we drop in the photographs, everything will re look really nice. We have pre purchase animation. We are ready toe at the photos, use the transition and create a real life project. Real life compulsion with what we create. So I'm really excited to show this police proceed to the next lecture and we will tackle that problem. 10. Reap the rewards. Finalizing and showcasing!: Okay. Finally, we can get the reward off preparing this. So those rulers really helped. I place those two on the very top side, and you can see beautiful pre compositions right now. Those are photo one and five are the photos. You want to switch the real photos, and we have a total off eight compositions, so I'll just take How many do I have? Nine. I will take eight photographs, put them in, and I'll just drop them inside. So you can do that very quickly. Like this photo tree? Yes. It would be helpful if we resize the photo, but it's all up to you. The best results is if we resize them 12 tree for five. Okay. It seems this dude six will be the photo. We are going to seven boom smaller and eight. Really nice photographs, by the way. Um, yeah, we have the transition and boom. Watch how the end result would look like this'll is so, so nice. I really like this and the technique to press you on your keyboard to reveal all key frames , and we can make the transition smaller the entire composition. We can crop the composition to this place. We can also take composition and trim crop toe work area boom. And this entire innovation takes two seconds and 20 frames of play. So nearly three seconds, It's superb that way. Okay, I think this is completely enough. And what if you want to use this in a real life project? Let me close those or the photographs. Nothing easier than that. Let's create a new composition like at 15 seconds composition. Let's say that you have this photograph and this guy was photographed number five so you can see two layers on the composition. I just make I just crop in between them. Can I please place the composition above them? I mean the transition above them. Let's place the transition because I know that this transition goes from the first photograph towards the second photograph. And look at that since since replaced the first orange rectangle perfectly here, you don't even notice the transition. So this is perfectly no done. See, no hiccups, no problem. If we would have a small problem here, like you would get the position of it wrong, you can always take the second photograph and you can reposition is a bit left of it. Right? Let's see. See? Now it would be different. But if you place everything perfectly, you don't even have to do this. You just drop the photo in your composition and boom, You have such a pretty transition between photographs. Yeah, I now move this photograph. I would just delete it. And I placed this photograph once again. Here. This will be easier and the transition is complete. I hope you had a a lot of fun preparing this. You are doing this with me. And here this was a lot off complicated, nitty gritty work. I know that after effects is very often daunting and it's hard to learn. I spoke pretty fast, but I wanted to show you everything step by step, with very short lessons so you can always get back at them. You can re watch the lessons too, to just find the little details I did in order to make this this fluent. And this is definitely an intermediate project. I wouldn't call this a totally beginner friendly project. Yes, everything is explained one by one. But working with compositions with the placing with those animations, everything together may somehow sometimes get out of hand, but I believe it. This is why do we learn after effects? It's better if you are trying to do a tiny bit more complicated project than you normally do, because next time, if you would, for example, use a transition and each photo would be off the same size. No problem. You already managed to create something like that with custom composition sizes, which is already a nice task. So you will have no problems greeting like this photographic transition photo great or some something off that sort. Thank you once again for listening. I really hope you did enjoy not only the lessons and the way that I thought you and the project itself, because it's transitions will be always trendy, always, always worked doing so. I believe this is a useful piece off knowledge to you. Thank you. And I'll appreciate if we meet again in other classes. Or if you say that you did like this one, see then and we will work on other transitions next time
