1. Introduction: Green screens are magical. The simple piece of fluorescent green screen expands the possibilities of media production. Only your imagination is your limit. Sitting in a studio audience whom you can transport your audience to new wells, all within a few clicks. You can make super good videos with any backgrounds who choose. You can make your online courses look professional. The more professional and well done it is, you will be able to reach more audiences. In short, you can tell any stories that you dream of with the help of Greenpeace, who knows what awards and rewards you will win someday. So if you want to impress your audience, then learn to shoot and replace your green screen with the backgrounds of your choice. This course on windscreen is for you. If you are an aspiring video producer, editor, director U2 were, or an Instagram, or do you want to increase the quality of your video production and enjoy the magic of green screens, then this course is for you. Even if you're a complete beginner, you can learn everything about green-screen production. Yes, everything right from planning a green-screen scene to shooting a green-screen, you can learn everything in a matter of few minutes without further ado. Let's begin with our first lesson. Way, greenpeace, way not in law or audience greens, weighing green screens, or the most popular choice for background rules. 2. Why Green Screens?: Have you ever thought about why greens? Greens are the most popular choice for background removals way not in lieu screens are audience queens or even being screens. Before we answer that question, let's learn how we dial began the history of green-screen. This French movie is the first-ever attempt at separating background from the foreground from black screens traveling my base of pickled printing sodium vapor lamps, illu screens. A lot of experimentation was happening at on. So yes, there was lot of experimentations happening from separating the background from the foreground. And then the fourth month that happened, read me a rigid boundary. First time blues thing was used in movies to create special effects and guess what? This movie won an Oscar for special effects. Over the years, blue screen turned to green screen, and now you can see it everywhere. Why green screens and why not any other colors? Green, human's skin is basically orange or shades of orange. We refer to skin tones as black, white, brown, et cetera. Since blue and green colors are not anywhere close to humans skin color. So it's very easy to select and replace blue and green. Take a look at the color wheel. If you see the shades of brown, which are close to human skin tone, or exactly opposite to blue and green. That is why blue and green screens are used for background removals. Blue collect loads are more commonly used than green colored loads. Using green screen for background removals allowed people to wear blue clouds, which most people like to. So blue is popular in clothing. So green-screen started becoming more popular. On a side note, if the subject was a plant or a forest, anything of green color, then blue screen should be used. So far we learned why green screens and why not orange greens, yellows, greens. Now let's get into action mode. Let's take a green screen and replace it with some cool backgrounds in Premier Pro. 3. Removing Green Screens with Adobe Premiere pro: Hi, here is me waving at you with a green screen background. Now let us take the shot and import it into Premier Pro and replace the backroom. I'm using Command Plus I to import the footage into Premier Pro. If you're in Windows, use control plus psi. Now, let's bring our footage into the timely. We're all set now, let's see how to get rid of this green screen and replace it with a beautiful background. So the first step is, let's take a look at the short. I'm not moving much within the frame. So as a first step, let's draw a mask. I don't know a subject, that's the first drawing a mask around a subject. This step is super important and they used to ignore it when I first did my green-screen replacement. But don't skip this step. This mask will save your time, computer's time, and also helps to make your background removal simple and easy. Now let's learn to create the mask around your subject. So how do you must get on subject? Go the effects control panel. You see if Pen icon under opacity. Click on the icon. Now we are going to draw Moscow Roomba subject. So while you're drawing the mask, make sure then this object won't move out of the mosque. If the subject is moving at just the MST so that we can Moscow the corners of the video. So why are the masking Oticon is it's because the corners will have uneven lading. In most cases. By cutting off the corner, we can remove the background quickly and easily. And also when you more work to Premier Pro, when all it needs is to remove the green area around our subject. So don't skip this step. Even if this is the first time you're working with green screens. We're done. See the corners are cut now and unwanted VGS have disappeared. Now let's get into the actual background removal process. That is the key process. Premier Pro comes with a powerful key called the ultra key. Remember I'll tricky if you want to create magic with greens, Greens. Let's go to the fixed panel in the video, a fixed folder under keying, you'll find Albuquerque. If you're not able to sport, ultimately, just search for ultrafine, the little search box here in the experiment. Click and drag the ultra key into our green-screen clip in the timeline window. Once you drag and drop the ultra key in your clip, you will see the ultra key effect in the FX control panel. So we chose the ultra key from effects and brought it today if it's Control Panel in ultra key effect said the key color. By selecting the eyedropper tool. Now click the green screen in your clip with the eyedropper. Mostly click somewhere closer to your subject. The moment you click on a green screen with the eyedropper tool, the green disappeared. That's it. The green is gone and it's filled with black or somewhat grid. But we are not done it. Let's look at it more closely. In the fixed control panel under ultra key, change the output view from composite to Alpha channel. You will see the black and white view of the footage like this. This will help you see the details when you're fine tuning for better. This is the white parts are going to stay and the black parts will be removed. Node Step three is to find junior key. Go to the dropdown menu below output in the ultra key and select aggressive. The aggressive sitting gives a more bolder and better qi. In most of the situations, aggressive sittings bumps up your key or notch and creates a solid border between your key and the separated backdrop. If the green screen lighting was even and good when you short the footage, you don't have to adjust many parameters here. But if the settings we're not braid and for those not short properly, you will have to adjust a lot of parameters here. Now switch to your output view, back to composite. So you can see how your videos looking. Let's place a background behind me to add a backprop. Simply import the background you want. The bathroom clip is always placed below the good clip. The keen footage has the subject, that's me. So the backbone of a choice is placed below the subject. So it looks good, no, but slits chip anyway, Zoom In your view in the program window and check if everything looks good. If the result is not satisfactory, we can get back to our fine-tuning. We're done for no, a good job. Fine tuning is required. One leaf parts of the green-screen backroom is still present. If you want to clean the background butter, then you have to switch to Alpha channel. You want, you keep adjusting pedestal, transparency, shadow, and experiment a little bit with other parameters as with usually the professional, to clean up the edges of the key with man cleanup and reduce the green spill using spill suppression. We will learn all this a little later. Then you go, now you have removed the green-screen successfully in Premier Pro. Now you can play around with different cool backgrounds. Next up, let's learn how to plan for a green screen shoot. 4. How to plan for a Green screen shoot: To prevent green-screen problems even before they occur. The first step is to plan. With every green screen shoot, we are going in blank. Instead of just using only our imagination, we can sit down and plan for a green screen shoot. This will help us get great results. A lot of things can go wrong when you don't plan for a green screen, shoot my plan with your subject than mine. The first thing you have to make sure is your subject is not wearing anything green. No green means no deal. No acquire, no Sea Foam, green or any color close to green. No flaying, frizzy hair, flame frizzy has can cost mate miles during post-production. So speak to your subject in advance and plant the half state somehow still that keeps the head down and no frizzy hair sticking out. Be watchful about the reflective surfaces like glasses and models. If your subject is wearing glasses, make sure they don't turn to this site's. Always make them face the camera to make the job simple during post-production, visit the location before the shoot. If you have access to a green screen studio with green-screen lights and onset though, then all good. But if you're setting up a green screen at your home or at your clans playlist, then you need to look for certain things like reflective surfaces. Good their coverage. By depth, we mean enough distance between your subject and the green screen to avoid shadows and Greenspan, watch out for reflective surfaces. Reflective floors and ceilings will reflect the green from the background all over this object. With our coverage of the green screens. Simple situations like interviews where there are less number of subjects or when there's no movement, then a smaller green screen is fine. But when there are more number of subjects or they're a vigorous movements like workouts or dance routines. Then we need to plan for green screens Berlin at months. As simple solution is to take your phone or camera out and do a test shoot. Then you can sit with their crew and plan for the green shoot in advance, like your background and foreground separately, your green screen has to be evenly lit. It's always a good practice to have separate lates for background and foreground. Even if it's a simple interview, look for the bigrams you'll be using. Finally, if you are designing your own backgrounds than the sane it well before your shoot, this might look like an extra effort, but do make the final output super good. So always remember, windscreen production begins with planning. Don't skip the planning step, especially with green screens. So that's all very simple ray. But people tend to forget an overlook basic things and end up cursing themselves doing post-production. All this planning takes only a few us, but it will guarantee great results. Soviet band planning. Now, let's go gathered, but tools for their greens. 5. Equipments required for a Green screen shoot: See, we might not have big budgets like Hollywood movies or even some ritual to us. But don't worry, it's very much possible to get good results at your home with little or no budget. Because the principles behind gain green screens is very simple and it doesn't change with budget. There are three elements required for a green screen shoot. Number one is your green-screen background. Number two is your lights. Lights can be LED, it can be Aquino flow light, or it could be a softball, or it could be when you have two blades at your home. And number three is the most important, which is the camera, or it could be a smartphone. Before beginning to look for the green screen, find out how much coverage you need. Audio Fleming, an interview or a short flu is just a close-up of a subject. Do you know how much your actor will move around the frame? If you don't know that all ready, it's time to find out. Because when you're actor moves away from the green-screen, parts of them will be cutoff. There are four ways you can use your green-screen background. You can paint your wall green. You can moan green cloth on stands. This method is most commonly used by YouTubers and complete YouTube Kids are available on Amazon and eBay. It has green screen. It has the clamps, lights, and everything required for your green screen shoot. Make sure your green-screen is wrinkle-free and it doesn't have any dirt or theos while molding the green cloth on your stance, stretch the green screen in all directions so that there are no wrinkles. You can use a green cloth or a pop-up green screen. This is extremely useful in outdoor situation value a green screen has to be portable. You can also use a green colored paper as they are green-screen background. This works really well. If you're shooting smaller objects, you can also load a green colored J-Pal onto your phone or your laptop for a green screen background. Okay, so we have the backgrounds cover. Now let's discuss a word, the lighting equipment required to lighter green screen. There are two things you have to remember when you're lighting green screens. The green screen has to be evenly lit. And number two, you have to use separately ptosis for the background and separate late sources for your subject. So when you plan lighting your subject, you can use one leads, three lanes or even file late. You can get as creative as you want when you are relating your subject. But when it comes to green screen, you have to light the screen evenly without any dark spots, hotspots. The best practice is to use a minimum of too late. Too late. You're green-screen backdrop, the light sources that you're using on green screen should be heavily in diffused so that as soft evenly spreads all over the green screen without any hotspots. And important thing to notice, you have to use the same late with the same settings when you're lighting and green-screen, the lights can be anything. It can be a soft box, it can be a Kino Flo LED, but as long as they are wide, soft and diffused is all you need to late you're green screen. When it comes to a recording equipment or you're thinking, should I go for a high-end camera or just a smartphone? It's solely depends on your requirement. Simple DSLRs and smartphones are more than enough for YouTube videos. An important thing to consider when you are using camera with your green screens is always shoot at the highest resolution available in your camera. So if smartphone is all you have available, just pay a little extra careful with your labeling. You have very small room for error when you are using smartphones. So make sure you are green-screen is evenly lit when you're using your smartphone. That's it. So remember, it is never aboard the equipments, but how we use them, even a basic equipment with little bit of attention to detail is more than enough to get good results. So the next lesson is the most important one. We are going to learn how to lay the green screen. See, see you there. 6. Even Lighting is Everything: So far we discussed how to plan a green screen shoot and what are the equipments, the grade for the green screen shoot? Now, let's learn the most important part, lighting a green screen shoot. If you get the lighting rate, then greenfield replacement will be a walk in the park. When you're lighting a green-screen, always remember that the lighting has to be even on the green screen. How to late green-screen we use for pests. Russell's basic rules of green-screen labeling that you should always remember. The green screen and the subject should be lit separately. The lighting on the green screen should be even. The light sources has to be soft and diffused. So all this is then to create a smooth and evenly lit green screen so you post-production work will be simple and easy. Javier, final background rainy before your shoot, like your subject for us, you can of course, start by lighting your green-screen first. But once you have lived your green screen with even perfects mood lighting, then everything is going to change. If you put your subject again and start laying new subject. So to avoid wasting time, forget about your green screen in the beginning, start with your subject first. Of course, remember to put your subject far enough from the screen to a wide green spills and shadows. Once you're satisfied in your subject, now turn on the background lights to light your background. Adjust the angle, distance, and intensity of your background lates until you get a even soft lit background for your green-screen. Setting up lights for the green screen backdrop, as we discussed in the last lesson about lading equipments, we need two sources of late with melting sittings and matching color temperature, we need diffusion, a lot of diffusion. And we need light stance, position of the lights. When you are using only too late, too late, you're green-screen, place one late on each side of the green screen on a 45-degree angle, plays a late, a few feet distance from the green backdrop. Adjust the angle of the lanes and the distance from the background until you find a spot where you see soft evenly spreading all over the green screen diffusion. Hard light sources with no diffusion will create hotspots on the green screen background, King softwares will read the hotspots as white or gray color and it won't replace them when you key or the green color to avoid hotspots and you get a soft diffused late on green screen. And as much as diffusion Do your light sources. So you read all the hard work. How do you know your blood to green-screen rate that you can use mobile apps like green screener to check the lighting on a green screen. Just point your phone camera at your green screen. The Apple show hotspots and darker areas of the green screen. So based on that, adjust the lates accordingly and achieve even making. In the next lesson, let's learn how to manage green screen in difficult situations, like a frizzy hair sticking out. C either. 7. Keying Hair on a Green Screen: One of the most frustrating times during post-production is when you have to keep frizzy or flaying her. Since has such a prominent part of the human figure if the high-risk not keyed properly, it totally breaks are green screen resolution. So let's learn how to manage frizzy hair in a green screen shoot. Begin with, good lady. Have a smooth, evenly lit green-screen. Yes, it's been said again and again, and you will hear it until the end of this course. It is the single most important thing when you're using green screens and create a contrast between your foreground and new background. For example, if you had color this dark, then make your backroom brighter. If you're hot colors blonde or any later sheets, then make the background green a bit darker. So this contrast will help you working software to differentiate between the background and the foreground. So your job in postproduction will be simple and smooth. Use hearts praise toy frizzy hair sticking out a white Greenspan from your background. You can achieve this by positioning as object little away from the background so that the green from the background will not reflect on the edges of their head. It's always a good practice while shooting to zoom in and look for the green splits. So in case if you didn't manage the frizzy hair nearing shoot, then you don't have to worry. You still have ways to fix it in post-production in software's like aftereffects or Adobe Premier Pro. But it's better to prevent the problem even before it occurs, then sit for long AS truthfully during post-production. So we are close to the finish line. No. In the next lesson, we learned the do's and don'ts with green screen. And with that, we are good with green screens. 8. What to do and what not to do with green screens: What to do and what not to do with green screens. We have discussed how to plan and how to shoot green-screen videos earlier. Now let us quickly recap some of those points and add some new tips along. Avoid, fix it in post attitude. You will save a lot of time and energy if you fix things before the shoot begins and get your final background ready. This will help you to plan and light your subject matter and it will avoid any mismatch in lighting or perspectives. Choose the green screen large enough for your subject's requirements. If you don't have a bigger green screen or if your studio is really small, then drastic. They all subjects movement, never overlook the basics and always be watchful. The basics are, of course, normally includes no green colored accessories. Be extremely careful about reflective surfaces like glasses and bottles. You can't have smoke and fog fire ordering in a green screen shot. You completely mess up the ageing process. If you want to add these elements, do it later in postproduction. Check if your green-screen isn't Gucci unordered, no deals and not do man-eating can speak to your subjects before the shoot. Make sure you remain them on what the green clods in the green colored accessories do test shoots. Do your test in different conditions, different bangles and load them up and bring me bro, and see if you are able to replace the green screen will later green-screen and your foreground separately. Lighter subject first, light to a green-screen later, and a lot of diffusion D overgrown leads to avoid hotspots. Always check for hot-spots and even labeling. Take the help of mobile apps like green screen, a rap, and lots of free apps to check for hot-spots and even lading. Like your subject according to your final background. I'll tell you a simple took to improve the quality of your green-screen videos. Add a backlit to your subject. When you add a backlit, it's a beds, the foreground and the background. And it makes the edges of your subject sharper when it comes to the recording equipment, always shoot at the highest resolution and the highest quality offered by your camera. Stretch the green screen in all corners and fasten them with glimpse door wide wrinkles. Make use of your foreground and background properties to sell the idea of green-screen illusion better. If you have no moment from this object, then built your camera to portrayed mood and shoot. This way, you will get the full image in high-resolution. We are close to the finish line now, in the next video, let's wrap up the course. See you there. 9. Conclusion: I'm super happy to meet you at the end of this course. I hope you learned all the tips and tricks for your next green screen shoot. Now all you need is practice, practice and a lot of practice. Thank you again for staying until the end.
