Organizational change deals with all aspects of workplace disruptions ranging from new jobs or bosses, to mergers, new clients or work associates, different duties, or even remodeled space. 1. Title Page Getting Good at Getting Across Your Successes Using S.T.A.R.S. Approach: this Insight session is about getting good at getting across what you have to offer a team and organization a project or really whatever it's about being able to discuss your past successes in a way that covers all that was involved in what you did to make it happen by using your stars impact. 2. Intro & Overview of S.T.A.R.S. Approach: Hi there, wisdom seeker, the corporate crone here to share insights with you on how to organize, verbalize and document the many accomplishments you've had not only in the workplace, but also to record for posterity the many things that you have done thus far as you live and lead your legacy. Now the purpose of this session is twofold. First, you will become really good at being your own advocate and getting across to others what you have to offer when the need arises. If there's a certain project that you would like to participate in, or a job opportunity that you want to go for. Secondly, the idea is to recall and record your legacy. Now we don't think about that much. When we were younger, we think about it as something older people leave, and usually it's in the form of money. We'll talk more about legacy in another session. For the purpose of this course, however, it's important to be aware of the fact that each day, all day you live and you leave a personal and professional legacy. Your cut. Your legacy comes in. Actually many varieties, some of it you're have reason to be pretty proud of and some of it not so much. We're Pope focusing on Lee on the positive aspects of your legacy. During this session. You see, everyone has a story to tell. Now the story may not be the great American novel. Of course, it doesn't need to be. But what's important for you to focus on is that you have not just one, but you have multiple, many stories to relate that tell what you've done well and are part of the legacy that you live and that you leave. This session guides you in a simple and powerful methodology to tell your stories in a very professional way that demonstrate what you've already successfully accomplished. You want to get really good at getting across what it is that you've done well in the past so that you are most likely to be able to replicate that in the future. Now, the secret is to tell your stories with impact by using tools and techniques that help you clearly relate the information that illustrates your personal and your professional power. Now Stars is an acronym, and each letter stands obviously for something the first s stands force the situation. Then you look at the different torpedoes that are being shot at you. And believe me, there are many of them. Next it's the action that you and others took to make the success happen. Then the results off the actions that you took and finally, what were the skill sets that you used? And this will be a very important feature of this session and something I think will be exciting for you to really know more about. We'll explore each of these star points, and the idea is that you're able to master the art of thinking, speaking and writing about your achievements in a format that will support you in becoming very adept at discussing your success, themes and patterns. Now the idea is to be able to relate the legacy you are consciously and unconsciously living and leaving every day. So I wish you luck. I wish you lots of wisdom and have some fun with this 3. SITUATION: set the scene with the situation. What problem or challenges were you, your team or the organization facing who was initially involved? How were other people or internal and external circumstances affecting this specific situation? Why were you involved? Did you step up, or did someone ask you When did you have to come up with a solution? And how close to your timing did you make it? Was there a certain backstory that needed to be factored in? 4. TORPEDOES: What were those torpedoes that were coming at you that you had to dodge, avoid or handle in some way what we're all the barriers or hindrances preventing you or trying to make it so that it wouldn't be a success making it not happen? Consider any all or different that did, could or would get in your way. Was it a person or groups of people events, internal or external, legal or political concerns? Lack of resource is personal limitations, time issues, anything that was specific to your unique situation. What to repeat ALS were coming at you. 5. ACTIONS : the next step is all about the action or actions you needed to take. What did you do? When with whom? To achieve the success, You want to list all the specific actions you took. Anything you had to consider. Plan four. Find the necessary resource is for any people you needed to recruit to coordinate with. Facilitate anyone or anything that required you to negotiate. What did you need to do? What actions did you have to take? 6. RESULTS: it's now time to rejoice in your results. What happened because of what you did provide very specific details. What demonstrated you had accomplished what you set out to do. How did you measure the success of this project? This event, whatever it was that you set out to do, quantify whenever possible, think of what happened in dollars or sense or percentages or an amount or a size anyway. Or anything that you can show that you were successful. Where others involved, what did you do together and what did you do so low? 7. SKILLSETS: Finally, let's explore your skill sets. What were all the unique competencies and behaviors you employed to make this project event or whatever you did happen? Consider all the different kinds of skills you used to create a truly successful outcome. Now, because of your job content or technical expertise, you were able to do what and which of your behavioral or soft skills or self management skills, your resiliency skills. Did you use, reflect on and be humbly impressed with yourself? Then think one more thing where any of these skills, some things that were able to be transferrable to another situation. 8. Project Assign & Savvy Review : by now, you are clearly aware of what each letter in the Stars acronym represents. This project assignment calls on you to take the time to reflect, recall and then record the stories that tell about your top successes. To date, using the easy to follow stars approach multiple formats exists for you to relate your stories. You can do such things as document what you have done through audio or videotaping. You conjugate down notes on post its or in your calendar. You could write out the narrative of your achievements as a story for someone to read at another time. Remember that we all have a story to tell. You actually have many stories to tell that memorialize your legacy. The critical point to all of this is for you, to you some type of personalized format that brings your past achievements and accomplishments to light for use now and for posterity. Decide what your document documentation style is. Are you more interested in a formal and structured approach, or do you prefer something that is more of a free form design? No matter what your approach is, it's important to include certain elements. Each story you tell needs to be numbered, So the first element in your recounting is to list it as achievement number one. Then the next one, of course, is achievement number to the number three and so forth. Brainstorm with yourself to document as many as you possibly can. Keep adding to your stories As you go through life. Start with the minimum of 10 to 15 to begin seeing your success themes and patterns, you will become aware that within your themes and patterns, you are using very specific skills. These skills can be job content or the skills may behavioral. Once you're on a roll, go for 50 75 125 or more stories. Just keep continuing to list them as you go through life. The second element is to give your achievement a title. Name it whatever you want so that it makes sense to you and helps trigger your memory when and as needed. Titled the story with the word or phrase that is something you were easily relate to this success. The third element is easier to remember because you move through each of the letters incorporated in the Stars acronym, starting with Situation you set the scene, including backstory is needed. The torpedoes, those things coming at you, that our challenges that could prevent your successful outcome, of course, then the action, the specifics you did and who would, how others were involved off course the results, the outcome of what you did and then skill sets. Now any of the job content, technical or soft skills you use, documenting the specific sent skills you use to make your success happen. It is extremely important for you in this process and actually in life if you want or need to Nome or about the skills you use and talents you have when successfully achieving something, refer to my course that deal specifically and in more detail with skills, talents and your unconscious competencies. This course title is price you pay to be. You increase awareness of your impact by uncovering your skills and talents. Finally, the last element is to list any notes unique to this achievement that you want to include for any reason. Jack down those things that you want to remember about this story that will make you feel good still, but somehow funny, interesting or especially, challenging. It could be whatever. Remember an achievement is something you know you did well. You enjoy doing it. And still, to this day, feel pride in what you accomplished. Don't be concerned about spelling punctuation grammar at this stage. Simply organize your thoughts so that you cover all the stars points in some way. Consider recording two or three of your success stories in the Project gallery. For this course, check out the stories in skills other participants have related. Do their stories, trigger memories and even more stories for you. Do you see skills other individual listed that might also apply to you? Do you see a skill that someone obviously used? But that person did not realize that here she used it. Be kind and let the person know that after reading their success story, you see an additional skill that he or she probably used to accomplish the achievement that they had. Hopefully, someone else may do the same for you. 9. Sign-Off S.T.A.R.S. Impact : Once you've become comfortable thinking and speaking about your achievement in the Stars format, you will have greater insight into the concept of living and leaving your legacy. Remember whether you're consciously aware of it or not. You're living and leaving your legacy all day, every day. Take time now to make that list of your successes, recording in some way the smart guts of your success stories. So it's there when you need to use it for what you currently have going on and for the legacy you want remembered about you in the future by those who care what they think. The corporate crone signing off with an invitation to form a habit of jotting down the stars basics Whenever you accomplish, achiever feel success and what you do at the time when it's fresh in your mind.
