1. Introduction: Hi, and welcome to my course on building websites with WordPress for absolute beginners. My name is Sandeep and I am a web slash product designer. Among other roles, I have been a programmer, developer, and a creative entrepreneur. I've worked for several businesses, including startups, Fortune 500 companies, as well as small and medium businesses, have been using WordPress as a platform to build websites and web-based apps more than a decade. And I can easily say it's one of the easiest and most powerful platform for building websites. Now what's so unique about WordPress started in 2003. It is a content management system and simple words, it's a software that you use to build websites, just like you use microsoft Word to create documents. It is extremely easy to install. You can set it up within five minutes and start building your website. It's interfaces extremely easy to understand and use. It's also fully customizable, which means you can use third party plugins and themes to modify the aesthetics and functionality of your website to build any type of website you want. Be it an official website for your business, a social networking website, and intranet website, or even an exact replica of Twitter. The official WordPress repository has thousands of such plugins and themes available for free, which can be used commercially. Due to all these features, WordPress has managed to become the world's most used software for building websites. And at present, almost 40 percent of all websites on the Internet are built using WordPress. Despite all this, WordPress remains completely free and open source, which means you don't have to pay anything in licensing fees to use this for any commercial or non-commercial purpose. Famous businesses around the world which use WordPress for building their websites include TechCrunch, Sony Music, bbc America, Microsoft, Facebook, Disney, and many more. Due to this widespread popularity, there is a huge community for support related to WordPress on the web. This course will teach you all the basics you need to understand to start using WordPress. It's aimed at complete beginners who have absolutely no experience or knowledge in programming. I will walk you through the entire interface step-by-step with examples, so you can learn easily and quickly. I'll also provide you with tips and resources that will help you going further. Every single resource that I will recommend in this course has been tried and tested by me. By the end of this course, you will be well-versed with the WordPress interface and we'll be able to start building your own website. I hope you find this course useful. I'll see you in the next episode. 2. Dashboard - Home: All right, So once you login into WordPress, this is the first screen that you get to see. This is also known as the dashboard screen or the dashboard interface. The very first screen that you'll get to see once you login. And probably the least used place in the entire world breasts system as well. You're barely going to use this because this really doesn't have much of a utility. This is more from an information perspective, as you can see over here. Sees that you have for posts on your website, seven pages. What kind of, you know the version of WordPress that you are using, the theme that you're using. So more or less some sort of an overview if there is any update available just like it shows over here. It also tells you that you have to update your WordPress because a newer version is available. Some quick options like the WordPress events and news that are happening around the world. You can also see it over here. And the more plug-ins that you are going to be using, more screens are going to be added over here. And that's going to give you an overview of information. Moving on to the next option that you're gonna see over here. It's called updates. 3. Dashboard - Updates : Once you click on the Update option, you will get to see a couple of things. First of all, it will show you if there is any update available for WordPress itself. Right now I'm using an old version of WordPress, so it shows that I can update my WordPress to the version 5.7.2 right now. All I have to do is just click on this Update button and it will update the entire WordPress for me. Before I do this, generally it is a healthy practice to backup everything that you have. In most cases, like 99 percent of the chances that nothing wrong will happen, but then there is still 1% chance that things may go wrong. Honestly, della, today, nothing has ever gone wrong for me. But still I recommend everybody to backup everything that they have prepared so that in case if anything goes wrong, they will have a backup, restore and easily they can get their website back to normal. The same logic applies to plugins and themes as well. Now I'm going to talk about plugins and themes in detail in the later videos. But just, just over here, plugins are like small pieces of software like extensions or apps that you can install onto your word breaths to have certain feature enabled. For example, if you are trying to build an e-commerce website, then you can have an e-commerce plugin so that all the features related to e-commerce can be enabled on your WordPress website. And similarly, that works for literally anything that you are trying to build on WordPress. So if you're trying to build a social networking website, then you need to have the relevant plug-ins for that. If you're trying to build a community, then you probably will have a forum plug-in or something similar to that. But there are thousands of plug-ins that are available officially by word person as well as some third party developers. We will get into the details of that in the later videos. But that's mainly for plugins. And then the second part is a themes. Themes are more concerned with the aesthetics of your website. It has color system, a color patron, various templates that you can utilize. We're really going to dig deep into that also in the later videos. But if you're using themes, which you will definitely do, as well as if you're using plugins. The updates for those are also shown up over here. So as you can see over here, that I don't have any update for any of my teams right now. So it shows all your themes are up to date. However, for so many plugins that I've installed on my website, they're not updated yet. So all this is showing up over here. And if I want to update all of this, I'll just select all and then click on update plugins. And then this takes me to the next screen where it updates all the plugins for me. And once all the updates have been done for the plug-ins, it shows this option which asks me to go back to the WordPress updates page. Once you click on that, then you will see that all the plugins have been updated and the message, your plugins are all up-to-date, shows up. Wordpress, however, has still not been updated. And that's why the Update Now button still shows up. And once you click on this, WordPress will also start to update itself. What this will do is it will connect directly to the official WordPress repository from where it will fetch the latest WordPress files. And once that is done, it will update your WordPress. And this screen shows up where it will introduce you to the new features and bug fixes that has been done. Once all your updates are done, you can clearly see that right now it shows that the current version of WordPress that I'm using is 5.7.2. It shows me exactly when it had checked for the update. You can also check again if there is an updated version of WordPress is available. Similarly, you can also update plug-ins from here, themes from here, if there are any updates are available for that. If there are no updates, this is exactly how it shows up. In certain cases you might want to re-install WordPress in cases where you weren't breast may get corrupted or you may think that WordPress is not functioning right? Because of some issues. Processes really simple. You just click on this and it will re-install the entire Persian. Now please remember, when you do this, you should do a backup of your website. Even if you don't back it up, WordPress is not going to mess with your content. Your content is literally going to stay the way it was before. So you're not going to lose any content, any modification or anything that you have done on your website. Only, the files of WordPress software are just going to get updated. In that way if something is wrong with the WordPress installation and that gets fixed. Okay, so that was an overview of the WordPress dashboard. Let's move on to the next part now. Hosts. 4. Post - Part 1: Once you click on this particular section named host, you will be able to see the screen. You know why both is an important feature of WordPress. Because initially when it was started as a project by its creator in 2003, it was intended to be a blogging software. So people would generally installed WordPress to start a blogging website. So both remains an important aspect of it. Now, it's not necessary that you would be building up blogging type of a website and you should necessarily be using this particular feature. For example, if you are building a website for a small business and then you have a section called news. Then you can definitely use this particular feature for announcing the new things that are happening on your website, like the PR releases or the news around the business. Basically, you can use this as you want. There is no rule around this. It's completely up to you. So once you click on this thing called host, you will be seeing this particular screen where you will see a list of posts that you have on your website. It'll just show up to you. Post called helloworld is there in every WordPress installation. So if you have just installed WordPress, you will be able to see this particular post. Then you obviously have a couple of tabs over here which shows all, which means all the posts published, meaning all the posts that are published. Right now just one tab shows up over here, which is called Publish because we have only one post which is published. But going further, if we have more posts which are in drafts, are some posts which had been deleted, then those dabs will also show up. Don't worry about it. I'm going to show that to you in a couple of seconds. For now, we'll just go into this post by clicking on it. Once you click on it, this particular interface opens up, which is called the Gutenberg interface. It has something called blocks and that will allow you to edit the host and its contents. And as you can see, this is exactly how your posts looks like. It has this particular area called the title area. And this is where all your content skull. Earlier WordPress used to have the classic editor, which used to allow you to place all your text, images and content right here in this particular section, it was more like a Microsoft Word kind of interface. Not really that fancy, just a field to type in the title and the content. But now they have taken a different approach and made this aesthetically a bit unique. They have more gun in the same line as of So if you have used, you will be able to relate because the interfaces are now very similar. What the major difference would be, as I would say in this case, is majorly around the fact that you can now organize all your content into chunks, which they called block and then write it up. So how this exactly helps is when your content is organized into blocks or chunks, you can later on move it or delete a particular block and do stuff like that, like adding styling to one particular area and all that sort of stuff. So it gives you a little bit of an advantage from that aspect. And I'll show you why. I'll be creating a post for you. But that's pretty much the major difference that you are going to get with respect to usability or one of the things that obviously it says it's switched to draft. You click on this and then what happens? Is it unpublished your post previously it was published, now it has been unpublished from your website. And then you can do some sort of a changes over here. And once you're happy with it, you can publish it back. Now, this way is not necessarily recommended. There is a post which has already been published to you. Don't need to necessarily go back to draft and then do it. You can do it right away and then also hit on the update button, which was here before. And that will also do the job. Let's just try write something over here. So I just wrote a random line over here without inserting a block. If I wanted to insert a block over here, I can just simply go like this. Click on this plus icon. And then it shows me what kind of blocks I can insert, such as an image. This will allow me to upload an image over here. Heading tag. A gallery means a group of images, a bulleted list. This is just a quote so far something that somebody has said in the past. And you want to quote that over here, things like this. So there are more than just these, these are the most common ones. You can also search for a particular block over here by typing its name if you know of it. So this area is really open for experimentation and I would recommend you to go ahead and try out different blocks and see what one does. And then you can decide which one you want to use and how you want to use. For now, I'm just going to click on this thing called paragraph, right? So if you click on paragraph, it just stays like this because you're just going to be typing some things or an outer are like. So once you're done with this, you can click on this preview button on top over here. And once you click on the preview button, it will show you three options. If you want to see this preview in the desktop mode, the tablet mode, or the mobile mode. Now generally I go for the desktop mode to see how it looks like right now I'm using a desktop. You can use either of these options to see how it looks like. Once you have desktop selected, you can click on this button called preview, a new tab, which will basically take you to a new tab, your live website, where you will be able to see how your post looks like. This is exactly how your post looks like right now. Now since you have seen a preview of how your post looks like, you can go ahead and click on this Publish button, which will make this post live. 5. Post - Part 2: You click on this Publish button and your post gets published. Once it is published, it will show you the URL over here. You can use this particular URL. You can click on View boss to view this boast or copy the link and share it with somebody you want to share. So that's it. It's really simple to publish a post. Now we're going to look at other options that WordPress gives you. Now you can see this option called post format, which gives you a couple of formats that WordPress has. Now, not all themes provide you this option, but if your theme provides this option, you can go ahead and experiment with this. So both format is just different type of formats of boast that certain themes of WordPress offer. Currently the theme that I'm using, the default theme of WordPress also offers this. So you can just go ahead and check this out. And if you think you have any utility for this, then you can use this option next to it is called stick to the top of the blog. So what this exactly does is if you enable this thing for any particular post, it becomes a sticky Post on the top of your website. So whenever a new visitor comes to your website, they'll be able to see this particular post right away. So if you have an important announcement that you want to highlight on your blog or on your website, you can use this particular feature. Moving on to the next one, which is called permalink. And permalink is literally just the URL of the boast. You have the choice to edit this. You can add a base over here or a dash over here. And you can add a letter, you can add a number, you can add anything over here. And once you do that and click on this Update button over here on the top, then your website will get updated. This is the complete URL that WordPress shows you so that you can, I have an idea about what the URL's gonna be. The next option from here is categories and tags. Both these options are mostly used for organizing WordPress post. Both these options of categories and tags are majorly used to for organizing your posts. So if you're writing a tech blog, you might want to have categories such as Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and stuff like that. If you're writing a post about Apple Music or MacBook, then you can categorize it under apple. If you're writing something about Azure or windows that can go under Microsoft and so on. Similarly for tags. Now the major difference between categories and tags is that tags are more keyword centric, whereas categories are more topics centric. So I'll show you how you can create a new category from here, click on this button, Add new category. Then it will ask you to type a name for that category. Let's go with apple. Once you have done with this, just click on add new category. And there you go. Apple has been added here as a category for you. If you want to add another thing, all the subcategories such as MAC, because MAC is product line by Apple, which in itself is not an independent category, but it falls under the category of Apple. So what you can do is you can assign it apparent category. In this particular case it would be apple. And then you click on add new category. What happens is Mac gets nested under Apple as a subcategory instead of becoming a category itself. Now you can do this sort of a nesting as per your requirements. Howsoever you want to do this, like Windows may go under Microsoft Azure and may go under Microsoft. So it completely depends how you want to use this sort of feature for categorizing the parent categories or main categories and the child categories or the subcategories. That's majorly all about categories. There's also a separate interface for categories that we're going to be looking at in the next video where you would be able to manage categories. Next one would be tags. The same purpose over here that is organizing your posts. But this is more keywords centric. So there is no concept of parent tags or child tags or subtypes are main tags. Tags are just keywords that you're going to be using for organizing your post. So you can literally write anything like tech and laptops. Hit the Return key or the Enter key on your computer. And once you do that, it just gets attached to your post. And if you want to remove it, just click on this icon over here which says remove the agony. And once you do that, it's removed. It's really as simple as that. 6. Post - Part 3: Moving on to the next feature over here, which is featured image. This allows you to attach a particular image to this post. Now, technically speaking, you can add a number of images to the post content when you're writing over here, as we had discovered in this particular block called Mitch Block. You can add lots of images using gallery or even images as well. But this, a featured image option allows you to attach just one particular image as a representative image for this particular post. Once you click on this, it will open up this a huge modal white box, which will allow you to upload a particular file from your computer. You can drag and drop an image file over here, or you can select one to upload it. So once you have uploaded an image from your computer, it's also going to show you a couple of options here which you can fill it up. This helps a lot for search engine optimization purposes. So do you ensure you write something meaningful over here, which helps the search engines easily locate your content. Once you're done with that, you can click on this button called Set Featured Image. Now once this image has been assigned to your post, you can also use this image to assign to different posts. So it's not necessary that once you have assigned one particular image to one post, it's restricted to that. Wordpress allows you to use it multiple times at multiple places. You can even insert the same image over here in the content area. The next option that we are going to move on is excerpt. This is more about a quick description around this entire post that you can sum it up in probably a line or two lines or something like that. Basically like a summary for your entire posts. This helps in search engine optimization as per a lot of people, final feature would be discussion, which will allow you to enable comments for your posts. So if you want people to be participating by giving the reviews and comments, you can check this box or uncheck this. By default, it remains check. And the next option is allow ping backs and crack bags, which is not really that much of an important concepts to I'm going to skip that for now. And once you're done with all of this, and if you're happy with all of this, you can click on the Update button on the top to update your entire post. Now these were the settings for your entire posts. There are individual blocks also that we had created in our content. And if you see on the right side, you will see options available for your blocks also. But you need to do over here is just select that particular block by clicking on it and then clicking on the lock settings option over here on the right side. And then you will be able to see the various settings that you can have for just that particular block. For example, here, it tells me about typography, like what kinda font size I want to have. If I select extra large, then of course my text becomes extra large. As you can see, this only affects that particular block that I am working on a, not on everything else. So depending on the particular block that you are using, you will be getting the relevant settings over here. So what I'm going to recommend to you is to try out different blocks and see what kind of settings and options that you get. All. So that was more or less a brief overview of how you can create or edit a post. We're going to click on this update option, will update everything that we have done. And once we're done with this, let's go back to their list of posts by clicking on this WordPress logo on the left corner. There we are. We're back to the same interface where we started. You can see of course we had selected one post as a sticky posts, so that shows up over here. Now just below all boats there is the option for Add New. And if you click on add new, you can basically add a new post. Moving on to the next part would be categories and tags. You saw, well, you saw how we created categories for our post, which was Apple and Mac and all that sort of stuff. And then we also created a couple of tags. This interface allows you to manage those categories and tags. 7. Categories Interface: all right, So now we know how we can edit, opposed or at a new boost and how we can add images and taxed and all of the concepts like blocks and Burma wings and other stuff that come with creating a post. One of the, um, you know, components of the features that we saw in post was categories where we could assign our posts to a certain category, which could be a parent category for a child category. Now this screen, which is under the option of categories just below the add new option under the header off posts here on the left part. Off the sidebar. You can see this interface where you can manage all your categories, So what you can do from over here is at a new category, which can either be ah parent category or ah, child category. Edit the existing categories. You can delete the existing categories, or you can take bulk actions on the existing categories on Finally, you can also convert categories. Now I'm gonna come to each of these points one by one. Let's start with adding a new category, so if you want to need, add a new category. Just need to add its name over here. So in my case, I'm gonna add a MacBook Pro. Let's assume this websites all about Apple products. Mac the hyphen pro. Now this is the slug, which means the part of the URL that I am deciding, so this would be a part of the girl. Then I would add it to apparent category, which would be Mac because it's a Mac computer and description. Let's just write some memorandum this solution and you click on Add new Category, and here on the right, you can see it has been added as a category. Ah, magma Pro, which has a hyphen before it signifies that it's a child category and not apparent category . Mac being the parent category, which would be the main one. Now let's come to the editing part where you can see if you hover over the name off category, you can see four options just below it. One would be added them quick edit and delete and view a click on edit. You will be able to see all the options. It comes with the same options that we filled up right now to create a new category. You can add it all those options over here, so names log. You can change the parent categories or add some description or remove the description our house ever you want. Once that is done, you can also click on this thing. Go quick, edit. Now the difference between quick edit and edit is that here only you can change the name on the slug off a category, which means just that you are a bit on the name bed, the other things like barren categories, description, part all that sort of stuff. You cannot change from over here, so use it accordingly. Finally, there's delete, which means if you click this, the category would disappear. There it is. It becomes a little bit red and it goes away. Now, please note. If you delete a category, it does not mean that you're deleting all the posts. Attach with it. The Post will continue to remain. It's just the category which will be deleted. The last option is view. Now, what does view stand for? If you click on this and open this link in a new tab, you'll be able to see the category on the front end off your website. This is how your users are going to see it. It's gonna have this sort of heading gold category archives and in the name of the category , which is iPhone in this case on all the posts that are attached to that category. And you would think this looks really shabby right now and this is basically the default settings or the basic settings off WordPress on. This is exactly how it looks like we can fix all of this when we would be focusing on the ecstatic spit off the website, and that's when we're going to discuss on that. Um, right now all you need to understand is that this is the archives template, and this is the front and part of the website where everything shows up all the post that I mean that have been attached with that particular category. So back to the categories interface. Another option that you get to see is both actions. That means you can select multiple categories by using these checked boxes on, then use this bulk action option or from the top bulk access action options to delete multiple off these categories. Another category that you will be seeing over here would be analogue arised. Please note that there is no check box next Red on the delete option is also not shown over here. That's because this is the default category that comes along with every word breast installation. You surely can edit this. You can view this and do stuff like that, but you cannot delete this. It's your choice. If you want to attach any posts to this category or if you don't want to, then you hand. That's completely your choice. But all you cannot do with this category is deleted, but mostly users do. Is they added this category so that it looks a bit better. So in this case, let's try and edit this to all posts. This is what I do generally, and I'll just give the slug as all quick update category on. There we go. This has been renamed. It looks a bit better. You can change this name to anything you want. Um, all you can not do is delete, so that's pretty much all about this interface, which is very least used. Trust me if you're going to write a lot of posts, if you're gonna edit posts and stuff like that. Mostly, people used the category editor that is there in the post interface. That would be the Gutenberg interface, which we talked about in the last class. Um, this, however, is very rarely used. Lastly, just before I sum up this entire class, I would like to talk about the category to tack converter, the option that's available over here. This is a plug in which word breast provides to all the installations. What happens is if you have created a category, but you would want to convert it to a tag, then you can do it with this option. So you just install this plug in, which is free, which is officially provided by word breast. There's no third party to fell upon their stuff cost involved with this, and it's just do that, and within a few seconds, your category would be converted into a tag. So that's all about this interface 8. Tags Interface: All right, So now we've done with categories. We move on to the next option, which is just below that which would be taxed. Now. We have a checked tags while we were creating the post. Ah, the tags are also another way off categorizing organizing your posts. But this is more off a keywords centric organization rather than a topic centric organization, which you did in categories. So in simple words, if you want to organize your posts according to topic, generally people use categories. And if you wanna organize your post according to keywords, that's when you use tags. So I'm gonna explain this really very quickly, as it's not really that much different from categories. The first you can see, which would be add new tag, which would be the name off the tag that you need to add. In this case. Let's just add smart floats, right? Ah, the slug can also be saving this case. So slug once again means the same thing. Ah, which means the part of the U. R L description. You can also add, um, random tag, something like this. Onda, you click on add new tag and there you go a new tag has been added over here. So the key difference that you can see over here, as compared with category, is that there is no option for parent tag or something like that. So the option off a parent category is only available in categories and not in tax. Secondly, in categories there is a default category called Uncanny Grace that we saw that we also renamed in the last video. Who here in tax? There is no deep hole tag that is there. So when you get a new installation of WordPress, there won't be any tag. You just need to create one, or you can have no tags at all. So once you have created one tag, this is how it's gonna show up, which is quite similar to categories. It's going to show up the description, this lug as well as the count count, meaning how many posts that are assigned to this tag right now you can take, um, you can edit this by using this button off edit, or you can do a quick at it, similar to as you did in the category section. Ah, you can also delete this tack from right over here, or you can see the tag by clicking on this. Now, it say's nothing found because there are no posts attached or assigned to the stag right now, whenever you do that, that's going to show up. Apart from that, there are also book actions, which means you can select multiple tags using these checked boxes over here and take bulk actions such as delete. And finally, there is another plugging available over here, which will allow you to convert your tag into categories. So by mistake, if you have created a tab which was supposed to be a category if you change your mind, if you want to change any tag into a category at a later period, then you can do that by utilizing this looking, so that would be all about the tags interface. 9. Media Library: So now we're done with all the options that were listed under boasts, which include creating a new post editing boast and then a little bit about categories and tags. We move on to the next header, which is Media on Under Media, the first option, which is called the Media Library. Now, as its name suggests, any media that you upload to your website can be an image on audio file of video File is hosted over here, and you can manage it from over here. As of now, there's only one image that shows up. This is the image that we had uploaded while we were creating a post. That's why it shows up over here. But we can also add a new image from here added new images from here to lead images from here, all the relevant actions that we need to take we can take from over here. I'm gonna show you an example by uploading an image. So head over to your finder and select an image and then drag and drop it over the WordPress interface, and it would upload it over here into the media library. Once you click on it, you would be able to see this option called Edit Image will come to that. But before that, let's just see everything on the right inside which describes this image here it shows the file name. So this would be the name of the file. The same name that you use while you saved it on your computer, then the file type. Which means this is a J peg image when this was uploaded size of the pile on the dimensions off the file, which means the resolution after file This is the girl where the image is, um, hosted. So if you go to this, you are you will find this image. Ah, there's a title off this image that you can add. So whatever you want the name off this image to be, you can specify it. Over here we went out right roots Onda vegetables because I think this is fruits and vegetables that we see in this image, and how that's done can add a caption if you want to. Then there's this space for alternative text or all text. Now, this is a concept in HTML, and generally you are encouraged to add some sort of a text over here. It's mostly used as an alternative to the image. Now imagine if somebody is, um, viewing your website on. There were a couple of images that didn't load either because there was some firewall issues or if there was an issue with the Internet and the image didn't load as it was supposed to, and because of which the image Justin show up instead off that the alternative text would show up. So if by any chance this particular image that you see over here doesn't load on the website judo, slow Internet connection or something like it instead of that the all techs would show which I would write as foods just boots so a person would be able to figure out that Ah, there probably. There was an image of fruits over here, so that's one utility. And the second major utility for adding all text is for searching an optimization process. Ah, we will talk about search engine optimization, perhaps later. But, um, you know what? This basically means that when Google is indexing your website, if you add something like an all text, it makes it easier for them to rank your website, so it's a good thing it increases the chances of your website being discovered in Google. Search on DSO You need to add this ideally, if you don't, then you're probably losing out a little bit on the search engine juice. Um, moving on to the next part would be description. So you could describe this image and write something over here, so I'll just flight random image. Once you click outside the Edit Able Area, you will see that the post is automatically being saved. There is no button to click over here so that you can save it. So whatever work that you're doing, it's being saved in real time. So that's primarily all about editing the information or the description part off this image. Now we're gonna go into the option where we can add it, the image itself. To do that click on this button just below the image would seize at it image and to do this Ah, it's going to open up in this sort of fun interface. You can do a lot of actions like just click and drag on top of this by selecting a particular area. Once you've done that, you can click on this button, which basically means crop. Once you click on that, WordPress would crop that particular image and create a new image out off it which would only have the area that you had selected. So now that is stunned, sister cropped image that you are sick. Another option is how you can turn this image to the left side. You can do that multiple number of times. It's back to the original size. I guess you can also turn this to the right side. So you see, you can do this. You can also invert this image from top to bottom Onda also from left to right. So these two options do that Dick clearly on this option would be for undue on. This would be for Edo, which is great out currently. So all these options are available to you so that you can edit your image right here from the WordPress Media Library interface. And you don't have to download this anywhere else or use photo shop and programs like that . But instead of that, you can just do it right from here in WordPress. Once you are happy with all the work that you have done, you can click on, save on the new image would be saved. There you go. It looks something like this on. Once you're done, he exit this interface and you will be able to see the new image that you have created. This all is part of the Mito Library. There is no extra plug in that you need to add to do any off this. Now, Another option that you get to see over here is the bulk select, Which means you can select multiple images and then take action to the still late selected . This quite similar to pretty much everything that WordPress our first. As you have seen this in categories and tags and posts as well. Um, you can also canceled the selection and it goes back to normal. There's also a search media item search box over here. So right now there's nothing to search because there are just two images. But over a period of time, when you would be having hundreds or even thousands off images over here, it would be easier for you to surge from this media items search box. All right, thank you very much for joining in. This was all about the meter library 10. Pages: All right, So now we move on to the next option, which is Bages, which is mentioned just below the media library pages you will eventually find. That's not really much different than boasts when it comes to creation, off pages or management of pages. There are just a few subtle differences, kind of like you know, the difference. As you saw between tags and categories. Somewhat that sort off a difference is here a swell. So ah, to start First of all, just click pages below Media Library over here, which will take you to the first option under it, which is all pages. This interface, which looks quite similar to the post interface list down all the pages that you have on your website now buy a default. WordPress would give you two pages. One is the sample page, which will demonstrate exactly how content this place and what are the blocks and everything like that will get into it. And the other one would be the Privacy Policy page, which won't be published. It would be in a draft stage, so ah, because privacy policies something that differs from country to country or city to city. So it would be very subjective matter. What he can do is you can probably place your privacy policy over into this page and then publish it because I believe in most countries now it has become a mandatory sort of thing . Ah, but not really very sure about your country. So please deal with the lawyer on, Come up with the solution for this particular page. We'll just move on to sample page to see exactly how big a star. So just click on sample page. Once you have clicked on sample page, you'll see some content like this. Ah, the first pot would, of course, be the title part. And then there would be a couple of content that has been placed. Now, believe it or not, I've been seen the same content for the last 10 years. I believe it has never changed or maybe a little bit has changed, which is really very unnoticeable over here. The entire purpose of this is to demonstrate help pages work on what you can do with it, so I'll just go over with the similarities part. First of all, the interface that you see over here is quite similar to post, So Ah, this works exactly the same way. You can insert blocks by clicking on this, plus Aikin. Then you can insert the type off block that you want to insert into the interface on. Once you have gotten the block there, you can put the relevant content or image or whatsoever you would like to. Based on the title part is pretty much the same. The document properties on the right side is also quite similar to boast. So you will be able to see the visibility of the page which can be public or private or password protected, just like boasts. Then you can publish this right away or you can, you know, should do it somewhere in the future. This button would trash this in trouble so it would be deleted and a super maling part where you can decide the Earl the you are a part Ah that you want to show here the sample page. Ah, you can change this. Of course, on this is the entire you, Earl, that you can see over here. You can also insert ah featured image just like it did in post. So that also remains something common over here, and then we move on to the part that say's if you want to allow comments of this page or not so similar to pull Siegen. Also allow comments over here are in Bages, so the final part would be the page attributes under which you will be able to see this option called Order. You may have multiple pages later on on Human Wanna ordered them in particular manner. So probably one page the about page comes first and then probably the contact page comes stuff like that. So this is more from the perspective, Dave off arrangement or ordering the pages, then you can also select a particular block on this. Information is also pretty much similar to what you learned in boasts, so you can also make these changes like drops cap. You can see that Do you becoming highlighted Over here, the phone size can be changed. Then there are the color settings and, of course, the CSS classes that you can add. So you may be noticing that this is literally quite similar to the interface that was there for posts on. It's quite true, it actually is. So what are the main differences. One main difference would be that there is no option off categorizing the pages. So you will never see an option for categories over here, just like you saw in boasts. And you also don't see the option for tags over here, just like you saw in Post. So these are the two things that boasts get on pages. Stone Cat. The utility off pages is more from the perspective off static content. So if you wanna have a page which describes the website, which tells a little bit about the website or what sort of a company you have or whatsoever is the purpose off the website, Um, the static content that never changes. That's when the pages are used. Both are used in Ah, you know, more off. Ah, blogging sort of a perspective or something that is regularly updated. So it's more like a feed, whereas pages are more una static and they never change their content because of this. Ah, when it comes to search and an optimization as well as people subscribing to your website using RCIs feeds, ah, pages won't be covered in that you need to probably include pages into RCIs feed I know if you don't know what are cysts. Fees are because they're not used a lot these days. But if you do, um, I just want to highlight that RCIs feeds don't consider pages to be apart if it All right. Thank you, everybody. That was about pages. See you in the next class. 11. Comments: All right. So the next part that you see in the section would be comments, um, performance. Um simply mean the common that anybody, any reader or anybody who follows your website may drop Onda. Since WordPress was built primarily as a blogging platform, comments was very essential part in the beginning. What it does is it allows people to leave an opinion on the stuff that you have written. So generally comments can be added on posts or pages, as you have seen, you can both allow our disallow. You know, comments on the posts are pages, so it's up to you. But if you allow the in built, a WordPress common system is found on this interface at this is where you can manage all the governments that you get on your board breasts, posts. So, as you can see now, I received two comments already. The 1st 1 is by somebody called May Bull tie. Yays might own 100 pronounce, but this is by somebody who has posed to the government on some random boast off mine. It's actually as a response to the hello world post that you can see. So if you go into this pose. You can also see the comment which is posted on the website. Okay, so it's in reply to hello world. As you can see, it was submitted on this particular date at this time on. This was the particular comment. Now this is not approved right now, so I need to approve it on. Once I do that, it will start showing up on the website. But if I'm not really interested in approving this government and I don't want that to show up on our website Ah, I can simply trash it from over here on if I see that the user is repeatedly posting something which doesn't make any sense. Ah, I get all suspended from over here, which will basically, you know, block that particular ah user from posting the government again. So just for the example that's trash disposed right now, want to click on that? It disappears from over here and it moves to over here, which would be the last option in this menu is the stretch will go over to that. That before that you're gonna want to see this comment, which is the default comment, That is Ah, there in every WordPress installation that you have, it's ah, posted by a WordPress commentator is basically about so It's like an inbuilt comment that gives you an idea about how comment looks like. Ah, since this has already approved, you will see an option to un approve it. Eagle also replied to this comment from over here, if you want to, Once you quick on that, um, a simple interface loads of where you can add your comment. Let's let's just add something you I'm sure you could guess this, Ana Blake. So once you reply this, um, as my user name is admin one right now Ah, it shows up over here. Ah, Then if you want to see this boast on the life website, just visit this by clicking view Boast which is mentioned over here. And then if you scroll, you can see Boat One is from a WordPress com and dater. The default comment that was already posted on the website and the 2nd 1 is a reply that you have posted to it, which is a random comment. Eso This is exactly how it shows up. Now back to the government's interface a little bit more we will dive in next to all You will see mine now mine lists all the comments that you have made. So just right now I did a reply to the default. Come. And so that shows up over here. Then you can see the pending ones. So penning ones are the ones. The comments that are, you know, pending your approval. So if any random reader comes up and write something and goes away Ah, it comes over here. And once you approve it from over here, then only it will show up on your website. Now, you saw that sort of a common that initially we trash. That was not a proved that should have been shown up over here. But since we were in the all ah part off the interface, we were seeing pretty much all the comments. Ah, next would be the approved comments. So these are all the comments that you have approved to show up on the website. Right now, it's just two comments that we see spam. Presently, there is nothing seen here because we haven't added any comment as spam. We need to mark a comment as spam so that it starts showing up over here on finally, is the crash part where you can see the comment that we have trashed. Ah, you can also trash permanently from here By clicking on this, delete permanently or you could restore it back from where it came or you can mark it as spam. So all of these options are available here. You can also take bulk actions, so both actions are over here. So if you want to reject a couple of comments are unapproved a couple of comments. So you need to just select using all these checked boxes just like I did and then click on Unapproved on apply. Once you do that, all of them would go as rejected Parliament's and won't show up on your website. Similarly, you can also approve. Ah, a lot of comments. Ah, then Marcus Spam will also spam all the selected comments and the ones Do you want to move to trash will move to this particular option over here. Ah, by utilizing the book actions Ah, part from comments. There is another thing called pings right now. We don't see any things because there is no ping back. It's very new installation. But what things are is if any other website, um links directly to your website. It becomes a ping back to your website that is also showing up in this sort of an interface . Ah, so you'll be able to see what website has mentioned your u R l are mentioned your website and you can also check that sort of a link from here. So that's all about things which is also shown under the common stash board. So yeah, that pretty much sums up the entire comments interface in wordpress. Ah, thank you very much. See you in the next class. 12. Appearance - Themes: Okay, so hey, everybody. Now we move on to one off the most important respects O R. One of the most important features that word breasts gives us that will be this a pure in section. And as its name say's, this is where you can customize the look and feel off your website. So how your website looks like to the world is this is the place that, um in control it. So we're gonna go step by step in this particular section because this is gonna be a bit longer than any other section that you have covered till now on DA, also one of the most important ones. And you're going to spend quite sometime once you get to building websites and start your development process inboard breast. So let's begin when you click on appearance are the stop option. Over here, the first option themes is automatically selected. Now what happens is the look and feel off. Ah, word breast website is controlled with the help off. These tiny Softwares are the small Softwares, or scripts or packages. They're called themes now. Themes are like a collection off code which determine how your website should look like currently on my screen, you can see there are three themes, one being 2019 another one being 2017 on the nurse to any 16. These are all default themes that are provided by the word breast team. When you download WordPress, cities are already there in it. But this is not the only restriction that you have. You can download any theme that you want. You can even code a theme that you want on. Then install it over here, which will change the look and feel off your website. Currently, thief theme that is active is 2019 on this kind of looks like this. So if we head over to our Web site and if we see the look and feel, we will see that 2019 theme looks something like this. So the color off the text, this ice off the images, the placement after title on the logo and all that sort of stuff is controlled by themes, even these colors and this phone is all controlled by things. So this is exactly how the 2019 theme looks like. Now let's move back to the theme stash board and change the theme so if I hover over this theme, you can see some additional options show up like activate or life review. Now, if you want to activate the theme right away, you can just click on this button. But if you want to see how it will look like after you have activated and you can click on this life preview button so I'm gonna just click on, Activate and not see the Life Review Right now, we're going to discuss life Review part shortly. So if I go back on hit refresh on the website, I will see the new theme active now. So now the new theme, which was 2017 looks something like this. Now you can see that logo has disappeared. This part looks a little bit different. The posts are arranged in a different fashion. There's ah, sidebar on the right inside, with the search box on the top on a couple off, you know more options. The fund has changed most. Certainly the color is also a little bit different, different unnoticed, but the shade is a little bit different. You can change the colors completely if you want to. All of this is controlled by themes. Um, similarly, if we activate 2016 theme, the look and feel is going to change even more so let's just activate that. So once 2016 theme is activated, your website looks something like this. Now you can very clearly see the differences when it comes to the look and feel off all these websites. So I've opened up the website in three different tabs on each tap has a preview off each of the theme that we just saw. So this is the 2016 theme. As you see, this would be the 2019 theme that we have been working on since the beginning on this is the 2017 theme. So these are considerable differences that you can clearly observe when it comes to themes on. By changing them, you can change the entire look and feel and structure off your website off how it is displayed and how it is perceived by the users. Now, before we move on to the next part, there are a couple of more options over here which you can see here. The 1st 1 would be add new, which is Ah, button on the top. If you click on this are if you click on this big box over here on the right basically means the same. So what this will do is this will take you to a screen. Ah, which would be the official WordPress themes repository. So this is the place where all the themes are listed on the official WordPress store from where you can download and install that theme onto your website and activated. Now all these things are free and open source. So, for example, if I like this theme are perhaps this theme, I can just simply click on Install Onda. Once I click on install starts installing after the installation has been done, the button changes into activate. Now I can either activate this team from over here or I can go back to the themes dashboard and then activated from over there. Let's just go back to the theme dashboard and there we go. You can see another theme now shows over here, which is called Tech, is, um, once you have activated, your website will have a completely different look and feel. Would you concede e if you visit Europe up, say All right. So this is pretty much how your website currently looks like with the Tech ism theme installed. So now we're back to the 2019 theme that we had installed in the beginning, which is the default theme for this year provided by the word breast team, and we're gonna move on to our different options under appearances. 13. Appearance - Customize Part 1: Now, the next option that you gonna see over here is called Customize. To click on that, you're going to see a lot of options on the left side, off the sidebar as well as on the right side are most at the right side are going to see the preview off your website. So the best part is whatever change that you're gonna make over here on the left side, off your website, it's going to reflect right over here in riel times. They don't have to wait on God, you know, are you after you don't have to go into a different tab to see how it looks like or you don't have to, like, activate anything to see how it shows up on your website. You can just see it right away, and then you can probably decide if it looks good, Then you publish it. And if it doesn't look good, you can just skip it. Another important part is that there are a couple of options over here on the bottom side, which say's the desktop version, which means how your website will look like on a desktop computer or a laptop computer. Then there is the tablet view, which means how your website looks on a tab or tablet or an iPad or something like that. And then there is the phone view which is to smartphones view, which means that how your website is gonna look like if it is being browsed from a smartphone. So once you are making changes over here on the left inside, you can check how your website is gonna look like on all the devices on the same time. So let's begin from the first part here, it say's that theme which is active right now on your website is 2019. You can change that by clicking on change. If you click on this, it will take you back to the theme stash board, where you will be able to select a different theme. Ah, well, move onto the next option, which is site identity. So if you click on site identity, you will be able to see the options that are available to you, the ones that you can change the ones that you can modify over here. So the first option that you see over here, this logo I previously had a logo over here. But I just removed that so that I can explain this how it looks like when you don't have any local in the first place. Ah, you can click on this option to upload an image, or you can select one off the existing uploaded images from your WordPress Media Library and you cannot make that logo off your website. I'll just upload something new going into my finder. I already have a sample file I downloaded on. It looks like this on going to select that by clicking on the select option on the bottom. Right. Then I don't want to crop anything, so yeah, that's pretty much all. Once I do this, the logo is displayed over here as well as on the website that you can see over here. So this is the place dedicated for the local in this particular theme. Only on this is how it exactly looks like. Now the site title is a sample website right now. This is something that I had placed in the beginning when I was just ah, you know, setting up a website. Now if I want to change the title of the website, let's just change it to something. Now, I've changed the name of the website from a sample website to a random website and you can see that the changes are being reflected over here. If it just want to see how it looks on an iPad, I can check that. I can see how it looks on a phone. And if I'm happy with this, it can go back to the desktop view. I'm gonna check something with the tagline part. I'm just going to write something over here. So once I write a random tagline over here, it also starts to show up in real time on the screen on the website. This is exactly where the random Baghlan should show up. I don't think so. It's a very good position for it to show up, so I'll just delete that. Once deleted, I can see the final option that's available, which is Site Aiken. Now the site Aiken is the one that you generally get to see on the top part off your browser. It's also known as a fab Aiken by some people on, but I think five fighting is the most commonly used word for this, but this is something that you are able to see on top of the URL bar on your browser. So you can also select something over here to show up. So I'm gonna just upload on Facebook, like in that I have downloaded. So So just dragon dropped from your finder and you select this, it will ask you if you on a crop this image. I don't want to crop on this part. Aziz, you can see over here. This is the part off the tab on your browser where an icon shows up. It's a really small Aiken. So this is exactly what we're uploading right now. So once have clicked on crop images, it shows up over here. So whenever you go onto your website on a browser and if you see the pop art off the website where the tab is being shown on this, Aiken would particularly show up. So once you're happy with all these changes that you have done on this particular page, you can click on publish on. All these changes would be made life right at the moment. Ah, so this was the first part about your customizing your website are customizing the look and feel off your website using the side identity option. Under customize in the appearance section off your WordPress dashboard, we're gonna move on to the next option, which is gonna be colors. Once you quick on colors, you will see that there are not a lot of options available over here. The 1st 1 would say, Is that what would be the primary color that you want to select by default? This is how it is. So once you come over onto this tab, you will see that the primary color is generally selected as t fold. Default is the one that is already preset in your theme when you install it. So we're gonna change this to a custom color on. We will change it to probably some orange type off. And once you have selected some orange type off thing, there is this check box which say's that apply a filter to the featured images using the primary colors. So this is a featured image, as you can see on your website. And then there is, ah, filter on top off it, which has bean set by WordPress. So whatsoever, the color is off this image. There would be, Ah, sort off a filter placed on top off it so that it gives a different sort of look, and I've had taken somewhere over here to green. Then it gives, ah, greenish sort of fellow. If I take it over to orange, it will become somewhere like orange. Listen, let's just make green for this example and click on publish. So if you're going to the website and if you see all these options when you hover over them , ah, greenish glow starts to show up now. This was a different glow before, but now the greenish one shows up because it just selected the color green over there in the settings. This is also being sure of as green on when you select something, there is this green highlight that comes up so now you can change this color to anything that you want, and then your interview upside would change to that particular color. Instead, off the default one, which was already set on the website eso back to the other options you can see the next option that's there is called menus. Now menus is something that is also available at another place on the WordPress dashboard, and I'm gonna also cover that in the next lesson. This is more off a quick overview off this option called menus, which is very crucial and very important. So you just click on menus. Onda. Once you are clicking on menus, it will check if you already have a menu or if you don't have one. So as of now, we haven't set up any menu onward breasts. So it shows that, um, you know you don't have any menus that you can insert now. A menu, as its name say's is very basically a list off components that you can show up on certain places in your WordPress website. 14. Appearance - Customize Part 2: so we start by creating a new menu over here. To do that, just click on this button goal. Create new menu. Onda. Just give it some sort of a name. So, as you see, I just named it a random menu. What a menu is is, um, it's primarily a list up a couple off blocks or a couple off links. Eso it's It's literally as what a menu means. You can just organize a set off links in a structured way, so I'll show you how that works and how it is positioned. Ah, before we do that, there are there is something called menu locations over here which, uh decides where the menu would be placed when it comes to the website. Now, there are several places depending on the theme that you are using. In the current theme, we have three places where we can place a menu. One would be the primary 11 would be the footer menu. On one would be the social links menu. I'll get to this and I'll explain how this exactly works and I love this is gonna make sense in about a minute or so. Ah, but before we start to decide the location off the menu. We will add some components to this menu that we have created. Click on the next button and you will see Ah, that there is a button called add items. Now, as I said, a menu would be, ah, group off links s. So this is where you add those links. Once you click on add items, you will see another window that comes up to the right side. Ah, there. Ah, a couple of things that you can add inside a menu. It can be pages that you have on your wordpress website. It can be custom links that you want to add, which includes external websites. You can add pages you can add boasts you can add categories or you can add tags. So let's just take one of the pages like sample page. So I've added sample page to the menu. Then we can add Ah, hello world boast one of the categories say Max and the tag smartphones, so you can see as I click the plus sign changes into this check sign on. All of these goes into this particular menu. Once you have done this It clearly means that this particular menu by the name a random menu, has these components. Are these links under it Now? The next step for us would be deciding where we want to place this menu. We can see that there are three locations as we just discussed a couple of seconds ago, I'm going to select the primary option so you can see all of this showing up over here. Onda, Uh, you know, like this you can also create ah lot off menus and you can even place this menu in multiple places right now, you can just see it over here at the you know, just below the website name or next to the website logo. This location being called as the primary location. Let's see what happens when we click on footer menu. Once we do this, we will scroll down to the footer on. Did you can see that the menu shows up in the footer as well, so you can have a different menu placed over here. You can have unlimited components added inside this particular menu on DA. That's that's how pretty much a menu works. You decide a name for it new ad components into it, such as links or pages or tags or categories or anything that you have over on your WordPress website or any external link that you wanna add into it. There's no limit to this. Once you have done all of this, you just save that on. Once you're saved, you have to decide the location where it should serve. Show up. Now you may wonder that not necessary that every location has already been specified in the theme that you have. Well, the good ones are the premium wants that you buy from 1/3 party Marketplace is the generally cover all the places where men you can replace. But if you want to place did say within a boast or a page, you can also do that using plug ins. So I think there is a plug in called short good menus or something like that. I'll just look for it, and I'll place the link off that plug in in the description. You can try that out that will allow you to place any menu in any place that you want on your WordPress website. So once we have done with this, we can click on Publish so that all the changes go life and then we go back. And here we can clearly see that Orender menu is currently set to the primary location as well as currently set to the Footer menu. The click on this option called viewer locations that we just saw and you can see that it has also been populated automatically. It shows primary as a random menu the Footer Men knew as well as the Render menu. There's also 1/3 position for which we haven't selected a menu yet. Um, there's also a dedicated option to operate menus, which is in the WordPress dashboard, not on this customize dashboard that you're seeing right now. Ah, we will check that interface. Also, we will get to see what we could do over there as compared to hear the terminologies. And the logic is pretty much going to be the same as you are seeing over here. So it's not gonna be confusing. It's not going to be different. It's just that it's a very different interface than this interface. Um, to be honest, not really. You know too much different. You'll find at least 60 to 70% off the interfaces to be quite the same thing, using the same terminal largest, but it can be used in a slightly different manners. So whatever interface you feel comfortable, you can use that on. We're going to discuss that also in our next glasses. Ah, for now, we're gonna move out off the menus option to the next option, which is called widgets. Now, what widgets are are basically small blocks off text or saw small blocks off code or certain components that WordPress has allowed us to place on certain places on guy No sounds a bit tricky and a bit technical or a bit confusing, but I assume it to be something similar to menus. It's just that in menus, you can just added links to pages that either exist on your website or some other website, whereas in widgets you get add components or blocks, which can be code which can be images that can be videos or anything that you're plugging allows. Um, I'm gonna show you how this exactly work for that. You just click on this widgets option over here, and then you will see that there are a couple off widgets that are already placed over here . I'll show you how those witches look like on your website. This is exactly how they are. So right now. Widgets are also placed in certain locations just like you. Some menus to be having a couple of locations, as specified in the theme. The locations where the widgets go are called sidebars. Now it's not necessary that a sidebar has to be on the side, off your page or on the website. It can be anywhere that you want. Like you see over here. It's in the footer part of the website, so it's called a footer sidebar. You can call it anything, but generally people call it that. So right now there are four widgets already active on the website. One would be the recent posts that shows all the recent posts that you have posted on this website. 2nd 1 being recent comments which shows the recent comments that have been boasted. Then there is archives over here arm that you can see over here, so archives would be the post that have Bean posted in the month off April 2000 and 19 on Final One called the Categories which shows all the categories that we have on this website . Now, these are not just a couple of widgets. Ah, we have a lot of more widgets over here that we can add and we can even remove these ones which came by default. So I'll show you by removing one click on this particular Aiken and click on this remove button over here on. Did you can see that this has disappeared and categories is ah, shoot up over here instead of here as it was being shown before. Now, by clicking on this button called at a widget, you can also add any widget that's available now. These widgets there are a couple off them which are default widgets, which come with all WordPress installation such as archives or audio calendar. Ah, but there are also a couple of widgets that you can code in a custom manner if if you know , ah programming than you can do that, they're also widgets which are added by plugging statue installed. Here, you can see this plug in Facebook feed by 10 web. They have their own widget and you can install that and then this widget starts to show up . So you can also add these custom witches. For now, we'll just add this, uh, calendar widget over here. Soon as you have the calendar widget, you can see a calendar which shows up over here. Eso It's a really simple widget which is provided by default. You can have a heading to this. Let's just call it Ah, calendar. Okay, so it's called Ah, snake. This caps lock. There we go. This is called calendar. So this is exactly how you can add a widget just like menus. This is not really much different. They'll menus also have dedicated locations where they can go on a theme, which it's also have dedicated locations called sidebars. Ah, menus are group off links, whereas widgets are blocks off text or code or, you know, many functionality, things like these. So quite similar, but different in many ways. Ah, also, just like menus. There is a dedicated section off widgets in the WordPress dashboard as well. We will cover that in the next lesson. Um, which is quite similar. Honestly, I think there is not a significant difference except for the aesthetics. So I'm gonna cover that. So whichever you find comfortable later on. You can use that. As of now, we're done with the widgets part. Then we move on to the next setting that we see in the customize option, which is called home paid settings. 15. Appearance - Customize Part 3: Once you click on home pit settings, all you get to see is two options. That's all only two options now, as you know that WordPress was initially built as, ah, blogging software, and mostly people used it for that. Even I think that is what it is still used as by most of the people. But now the functionalities have allowed us to use it as any website that we want. So what happens is by default. When you install WordPress, it acts like a blawg, which means all the latest posts that you have posted on your word breast website that shows up on the home page. So, as you can see over here, the default structure are the default setting for the home page shows on Lee or latest posts. But you can also have a different homepage. It's not necessary for you to just use the latest post that you have posted. You would probably be building an official website for a business, and you might not want to have the latest posed as your homepage. So if that is your case, you can just select this option called a static page, and then you can decide. Ah, particular static page. Now by default. It took a sample page because that's the only beach that we have right now. So once it's like a sample page over here. This is exactly how the home page changes. What happens is a sample page becomes your homepage. Now, if you still wanna have a dedicated page for your later supposed, you can select another page on Select that over here. Unfortunately, we don't have another bait, so I cannot show you that example over here. But in most cases, what you need to do is you just need to create a blank page. You can name it something like latest boasts or latest updates, our latest news or something like that. And you can select that page from over here. For now, I'm just going to revert back to our lay disposed, because that's exactly that's quite easy. All right, so now we are done with the home page settings. We will now move on to the final option, which is called additional CSS. Now, what this exactly does is this is exactly for the people who know how to work with CSS. CSS stands for cascading style sheets. It's, ah, styling language that can change the aesthetics off any website. So for anybody who has an understanding off this particular language called CSS, they can add the code over here on. Once you add the code over here, it's going to overwrite the code that is already present on this particular theme that decides the aesthetics off this website. So I'm just going to show you, Ah, very quick example of how this is being used. Now, I do understand people who don't have an understanding off programming or they haven't really touched CSS for them. It's gonna look a little bit complicated. So don't don't worry about this. This is not really mandatory for you to understand what press. It's just on extra feature. Ah, but once you understand CSS, this would be really easy for you. What I'm exactly going to do is I'm gonna change the color off this particular title. Currently, it's some black sort of for colored. As you can see, this has already been decided in this theme. So when you go into the theme files and see the editor, you will see the color description for this right now. Let's just based this school that I have created. Now, in this I have decided the color to be read and the C s a score or the hex code. Actually, it's the hex code for the color. Red is gonna be this as soon as I do this, you can see the color also changed to read over here on the preview. And it's not just that particular heading all the headings changed. So this is a very quick example off how you can use this option off additional CSS to customize the look and feel off your website. And that sums up all the options that are available to us under customize your website. Since we're done now, we're gonna head back to our WordPress dashboard by clicking on this close button. So here we are. We're back into the appearance a section, as we saw. Ah, we just finished with the second option, which was called customized. Now, the next option that we have available over here is skull widgets 16. Appearance - Widgets: So now that we're done with the customized option, we're gonna go and click on the next option that you see over here, which is called Widgets. So once you click on this, the widgets dashboard or the widgets interface is going to load up. Now, if you recall, We also played with widgets while we were in the customized option. And I also said that there's also a dedicated option for widgets in the WordPress dashboard . So this is that particular widgets dashboard that I was talking about. Now, customize option that you saw was probably introduced about three or four years ago. Before that, all the widgets were being controlled from over here. So since it has been introduced in the customized option, it's quite a choice for users to either use it from over there or from over here. But for the ones who have been using WordPress for a very long time, they choose to use it from over here because they're quite used to it. It's not gonna be a way more different than what you saw over there. As you can see here, there is this footer sidebar where we add the widgets on these air the widgets that are currently activated on the website. Unlike the customized option, you wouldn't be seeing a life review over here. So if you want to see, a life review should operate it from over there. But it's pretty much the same. So there are 12345 widgets which are activated right now. You can click on any off them. You can add a title. You can use any of these options that show up. You can also delete one from over here. And if you want to add any other, you can just drag and drop it over here. Just like this one wants to do this, it's gonna automatically be saved like this particular thing, and it will start showing up on your website. So a simple s that you can click on this option over here, which will show manage with Life review. And this will basically take you back to the customized option where you can see a life review off the widgets in action while you are doing the editing, as we saw a couple of minutes ago in the last lesson Ah, that's pretty much all I would recommend you to check this part out as well as the customized part, and you can decide which one is easier for you or which one you find more comfortable and you can use it according to that. 17. Appearance - Menus: Okay, So in this glass, we're gonna discuss about menus. Now, we've already discussed about menus in the customized option. But as I said then there is a dedicated place for menus in the WordPress dashboard as well on similar toe widgets. The menus in the customized option were added a couple of years ago, maybe three or four years ago. But before that, he used to have this dedicated section in the WordPress dashboard, where users can go and change and edit their menus, create new menus, delete existing menus and stuff like that. Honestly, I believe this particular interface gives you more options to edit menus or create menus than the one that is available in the customized option. The only had managed that U get over there is that you can see your menus live in action while you are editing them. Ah, and in fact, before you publish them or make it live, you will be able to see a preview over there. But that option is not available over here. So if that is exactly what you want to do and go ahead and use the option from the customized for now, this will show us A menu which is called a random menu. And this shows this up right now because we have already created that menu while we were there in the customize option. If we didn't create anything, this part would have been blanked. So I'll just delayed this menu to show you exactly how it looks like when it is blank or with no menus. So this is exactly how it's gonna look like it's gonna be. The only option that's gonna be available to you is menu name. So you're gonna name the menu over here. I'm gonna name the menu. As for and menu, this is what I probably named it last time. A swell. So once I have named my manual click on this button will create menu. Once I do that, my menu is gonna be created. After which I will be able to add some components Are some links into it? Ah, we can see all the menu items that we can add from the left side, the 1st 1 being pages, which means all the bages that we have on our word breast website by default, it's going to show you all the recent pages that you have. He can also few all the pages that you have by clicking on this view all tab or if you have a lot of pages and you just remember bits off it. You can also use the search box to search for your page. So I'm just gonna search something like simple Andi. It's going to search and it's gonna show me the sample page that I have because that's the only beach that I have right now apart from another one. Ah, so let's just select sample Beijing as one of the options click on add to menu option over here on it will be added to the menu structure. Now, if you can see a bit off a comparison with the one that we saw in the customize option when we were checking menus there Ah, this needs more clicks to be done. So you need to first, um, you know, select this by using this check box and then click on this at to menu button to add it over here. Whereas there there was just a bless Aiken and you just clicked on that and it was done. It was added to the menu. But that being said here you have this advanced options, a sort of thing where you can search and do all this sort of stuff. Same logic applies to post a swell, so you can add your posts by selecting one and clicking on add to menu similar to pages, you can view all our search. Ah, then there is custom links. That means any external UL or any other website that you want to add, and then you can give that a name as well. And finally, the categories categories would be the ones you already have. You can view all you can search for categories, and you can add them just like it. So it's pretty much a simple it's not really that different are complicated. Ah, it It depends on more off a personal opinion. If you want to use this or if you want to use that and I'm gonna assure you, let me just add this option on the iPhone. Adoption is well, so all of this now has been added over here as a single menu. I'm going to save this menu, and don't forget to click on this button called Save Menu on the right because if you don't do that, all your changes would be lost. Now, once you've done that, you can see all the menu locations over here where you want the menu to show up. Let's just include primary menu eso a primary location for now, and we can save menu on. Once you have done this, you can go over to the website. I'll just refresh the website, and you can see all the menus show up over here in the primary location once after published the menu. Sometimes you would want certain menu options to be clubbed under another menu options such as a child menu option. A similar example of that is how you see here in the categories that iPhone eight is a child category off iPhone, which means iPhone is the parent category off iPhone eight. So if you want something similar to this and you don't want iPhone eight to look, um, you know, separate in the menu area and just drag it to the right. Once you drag it to the right, it becomes a sub item or a sub menu off the menu. That is just above it. Once you click on save menu. Go back to the website hit Refresh. You will see that the iPhone eight option has now disappeared. But we see this sort off an arrow next to the iPhone option. Once I hover over it, I see a drop down menu opening up on iPhone it listed under that. So this is exactly how the sub items are. Sub menus work on. This is exactly how you can add them. Now. It's not necessary that iPhone eight has to be a subcategory off iPhone to show up like this. In fact, you can make anything a subcategory off any menu item. You're completely free to do that. For example, I'll just drag this over here and show it over here. So this becomes a sub menu off iPhone Now, if a dragon even further to the right, it becomes a sub menu off iPhone eight sub menu. So, yeah, you can have nesting also inside menus. That means ah, men. You can have some menu and then are some men. You can also have some menu Further. A sub menu can also have a sub menu anyhow. Ah, once do this, you have to click on safe menu so that your changes are being saved on one's. It's done. Just go over to the website. Let's see a life review. You can see there are only two options available to us right now. There's iPhone on a random title having a hyphen before it, which highlights that it is a sub menu off this particular sub menu. Now there are also other teams that will allow you to have another drop down that opens up on the side, which shows the sub menu instead off this sort of a format. But I believe this is what you get in this defaults theme off 2019. We can probably experiment this with any other ah theme, and you can see how it shows up how it looks. Every team has its own style. It's on aesthetics, so there is absolutely no limit to this. Once you're done with this, there's also another tap that you can see over here, which is called manage locations. It's not really that much different than the one that we saw, but it's gonna list all the locations for menus that are available in the theme right now, as you can see, the primary option has Renda Manu listed under it so you can use this drop down. And if you had any other menu over here, you could have had selected that from over here. Similarly, for the footer menu, you can select a menu you can end by clicking on this edit button. You will go back to the edit menus, um, Tab, where you can edit the menu on once you selected, and you're happy with everything you can click on. The save changes button to save all the work that you have done similar to the widgets interface. If you click on manage with Life Review, we're gonna go into the customized tab where you can do that. Sort of an editing. Ah, with life review loading just on the right side off your browser. So that will be pretty much on the menus interface on the word breast dashboard. Ah, use it according to your comfort. If you like the customized option, then go before red. Or if you like it over here, then ah, sure, this is gonna work pretty much in the similar way. There's no difference when it comes to performance. It's just, ah, subjective matter 18. Appearance - Theme Editor: So now we have pretty much done with the themes option or the appearance option. We know how to exactly customized themes and all that sort of stuff. We're just gonna head over to the last option that we see over here, which is called the theme editor. Ah, you can click on this. So once the screen loads up, there's gonna be this warning tab that shows up over here which say's that this area is primarily the source code of the theme that you are using. And if you do any changes over here that would affect the look and feel as well as the functionality off the website. So what this recommends you to do is to create a child theme on make changes over there. Now, child theme is in itself a complicated topic in itself. So I'm gonna talk about that, perhaps in some of the tutorial or in some of their class. What I'm trying to tell you in this particular one is how you have the ability to edit the code off the theme that you are using. So if you're confident enough, you have to click on this. I understand button after which the screen is gonna be unlocked. Ah, so this area is where you can see all the source code files off your theme. The source code is generally written in PHP. Most of the files would be in BHP. As you can see over here on the right siders common start ph peters footer dot PHP There's header dot PHP and as their name suggests, these files are controlling those particular areas off your website. So the theme header will have all the code that is supposed to go in the header part of the website. Similarly, the footer dot PHP will have all the code that is supposed to go in the footer part of the website. Ah, you can figure this out by the last extension which is dot PHP, which means this is a PHP file. Similarly, there are also Js or javascript files and CSS files which are ending with dot CSS. These are primarily for scripting and these are primarily for adding some JavaScript functionalities. All these things are packaged over here in a certain fashion on a collection off all those files is called a word breast theme. Not be very careful. If you don't have an understanding off any of these programming languages. You rather stay away from this particular screen because even if you change anything over here that has the ability to crash Arent our website. So whenever you work over here, do ensure you have an idea off PHP and C s is and how they function, how they work and all that sort of stuff. That's all that I want to tell right now as part of this introduction class to this theme editor part. Ah, we can go deeper into this because it's really interesting topic. And if you haven't understanding off all this programming languages you have really, um, you'll you'll enjoy working on this interface and editing stuff. 19. Plugins - Part 1: All right. So now we move on to another important aspect in WordPress, which is called plug ins. Ah, it's placed Ah, in the left side bar just below appearance menu. And under the main header of plug ins, you will see three sub components. One would be the installed plug ins. Then there would be add new on the blood and editor. So primarily what plug ins to is expand the functionality off your website. Um, let me give me an example for this suggests if you wanna Insull Facebook, log in or if you want to integrate Facebook logging into your website, which means end user who comes into your website will be able to log in into your website with the help off Facebook 80. Just as you see in a couple of websites, right? It just stays a blue color buttonwood say's log and using Facebook or something like that. So if you want to add that sort of a functionality on your website, or if you want to expand on any other functionality, perhaps he likes some other ah you know, comments template, which is better than the one that is existing on this website. Or, if you want to integrate Facebook moments instead off the normal common system that is there in WordPress or any such functionality that you may imagine about you can use these small software's called plug ins. So how Blokhin's are built, it's basically just a couple of scripts written in PHP, which formed this entire plug. It, um, some of the ah popular plug ins that you can find for free are on the official WordPress repository, which would be wordpress dot org slash plug ins al all to get this link in the description . Ah, you can go ahead and you can download any plugging that you want. All the blood and start a listed over there are free on open source. Ah, for the premium plug ins, you can get it from premium marketplaces such as theme forest or any other relevant marketplace like that, and you can expand the functionality. So how this helps you is that you don't have to go to anything or you don't have to program anything in case you want to build some sort of a functionality, or if you want to expand some sort of a functionality on your WordPress website. You don't need to be a programmer at this sort of a point. What you need is the right Blufgan. Once you install that right Blufgan going to its settings and do the proper settings as it is needed, it would be active. And it would add that sort of a functionality without writing even a single line off code. So that's primarily what plug ins to now. I'll just go through this entire interface that you see over here on the screen. Ah, the first option, as you can see, is installed plug ins. So this page shows the list off plug ins that are installed on your WordPress site. Right now, the to plug ins that you see one being a kiss mitt on the other one is Hello, Dolly. These two are default plug in that come with every WordPress installation. You can delete this plug ins if you want to. Ah, but a kiss mitt. I think it's probably one of the most important plug ins. It's an anti spam plug in. What it does is it doesn't allow spammers to comment on your website, so it's some sort of a protection or security plug in that you can think off. Ah, it's written by this company called Automatic Automatic is the company, which was founded by Matt Muhlenberg, who is the creator Off word breasts. The second Blufgan is just Ah, simple Blufgan, which is called Hello, Dolly. Um, it just adds, ah, line up quote. Somewhere here on the screen It's not really much off a functionality, Blufgan, but just for fun. And it has been quoted by Matt Mullen. Vague himself. Who is the creator? Off WordPress. So now both of these plug ins currently are not activated, so you need to first activate them. Let's go ahead and activate the first, which is X mitt. Now the Blufgan has been activated and you can see that the activate button has now changed into deactivate. And then there is an option for settings. There's also this green color box Ah, that you can see on the top which has come up, which is set up your a kiss mitt account. So what happens is you need to go into a kiss mitts website and you need to set up on it count and you need to take those credential leaders and you need to provide it over here. I'll show you exactly how you do. You click on settings on, then you go to the settings screen of a kiss meant, as you can see right now. Now it say's you need to enter on a P I key or you need to log in into a kismet website or right from here to get the A P I, which will then integrated over here and a kiss mitt will start to work on your website. No, I'm not gonna go ahead and do that. But this is basically how pretty much every plug in works. Now we'll go back to the plug ins option. So this one is currently active. This one is still not active. If you want me, I can also activate this one to just show you how it is. So now Hello. Dolly is also activated. Ah, it doesn't show a setting screen over here because there is no option that you can customize. All this does is it just gives this sort of ah, you know, sentence some sort of line over here every time we refresh the screen or you, you know, navigate to another part off the WordPress dashboard. You will see another line over here, so yeah, that's that's all. I mean, display Guinness. Really not much helpful as such, but it's just for fun. So since it's not gonna be used, a lot will deactivate that from to deactivate. Just click on this deactivate button just below the plug in, and there we go. It has been deactivated, and the delete button also starts to show up. Now, one thing that you should notice. If you want to delete a plug in, you need to first deactivated. You cannot delete a plug in unless and until casting T activated. So this one, which is active right now, doesn't show the delete option over here because it's still being used. Ah, once you click on this delete button, this option shows up and V. Blufgan is deleted. It's really as simple as that. You can also take bulk actions by selecting this check box. Currently, we just have only one plug, and so that's all you can see when I click on this check box. But the bulk actions include activate, so if you select a couple of plug ins which are deactivated and then click on, Activate on, then click on the supply button over here, then that plug and will be activated. Similarly, activated plug ins can also be deactivated by using the spoke action update is when a plug in has an update. So time and again there would be updates that your plug ins would be receiving from the developers. All these Blufgan czar mostly coded and built by independent developers, and they come up with security fixes and bug fixes and a lot of stuff like that on. You need to update all of that regularly if you want a website to be safe and updated to the latest Web standards. So whenever there is update, you can also do a book update by selecting all the plug ins that have an update on, then click on this option on clicking on apply. So when there would be an update, it would be showing up right over here under updates, as though as on this screen, you will be able to see the plug ins that are pending updates. Once you have deactivated all the bludgeons, you can also delete the plug ins by using dispose action from over here. Ah, that would be pretty much about this particular interface that you see over here. Nothing much from here. Ah, yes. If you have hundreds off plug ins installed, you may find it a bit tedious to look for the one particular plug in because you have to scroll a lot and all that sort of stuff. So there's ah, search box over here. Ah, which you can use to just search for the plug in that you are looking for. Um, that's that's actually every handy way are a quick way off looking into the Blufgan. 20. Plugins - Part 2: next we move on to the next option, which is add new this option over here. He can also come to this option by clicking on this button over here, which says, Add new. Now when you click on add new. What it does is it takes you to a different page, where you would be able to add a new plug in. Now this page officially is connected with the word breast Blufgan Directory, which is the official word Breast Blufgan directory hosted at wordpress dot org. And you can use the name off the plug in or the keyword to search for it, such as if we just want to see Now, let's let's just look for any Facebook plug ins. They just die Facebook in the search box, and then the search result loads up all the Facebook related plug ins over here. So what is this plug in all about this? Blufgan is on ultimate Blufgan to display custom Facebook feeds on your website. So whatever feed that you get to see on Facebook, you can embed that entire thing over here on your WordPress installation. So this is what this plug in does. You can see the average reviews that this plug in has got the official homepage of the plug in the WordPress start plugging page on its compatibility. It's be it be versions how Maney active Installations are there. When was it last updated? Who would be? It's alter the current version off the off the plug in how you can install this plug in the ethic use ah, log, which shows all the updates, some screenshots of this blogging as well on reviews by people who have been using it. You can also see the amount of five stars or four stars or one star. This Blufgan has gone, which will also help you understand if the Blufgan is worth installing or not. Then all the contributors are also listed over here who have their code in this plug in. So if you browse this particular plug in onward president orgy website as well, you will see literally the same thing on that website also. So this and that is not really very different. What this does is it is integrated with the official websites with bulls, all the information from over there and shows it over here. Now if you want to install this. You just click on this button. Install now from here or you click on install Now from over here By clicking on this, it changes to this particular Aikin, which shows that it is currently being downloaded and once downloaded, it changes into this activate button. Now you can activate it right away from over here. Or you can go back to the installed plug INS interface, the one that we saw a couple of minutes ago, and you can activate it from over there. But let's just activate it from over here. Once you activated, we're here on this particular page. Facebook Feed by 10 Web On On left side, you can see a special settings option, which was not there before. It's now showing up where you can go and you can add all these settings information or you can do all the customization is that you want to do. Ah, I'm not going to do this right now. Ah, but you get the point how you can use plug ins, how you can install plug ins and how you can utilize them. There's also another way off adding plug ins into word breasts, which is, if you have already downloaded a sip file off a bug in, so let me just show you how that is. So to install a plug in, you first need to download it from somewhere. So let's assume that you have downloaded it from some premium database like theme forest dot com or code canyon dot com were the cell plug ins, which are for ah cost, and if it downloaded one off them, it would come in a ZIP file. You can also download the ZIP file version from wordpress dot org. And once you have done, you have to click on this upload plug in option over here. Once you click on that, this option shows up after a click on this. Your finder opens up where you can browse where you have saved it. Once it has been located, you can install it from over there. A swot. So what it does is it uploads the plug in from your computer into the website, after which you can activate it just like this on, then proceed with settings option as we saw in the other Blufgan. So both these options work. You can directly download something from the word breast repository. Or you can download it onto your computer on, then uploaded onto your website. The final option under the plug ins, um header would be Blufgan editor. From a begin ISS perspective, I can say that this is probably one of the least used sections. You just click on the plug in editor part over on the left, and then you would see this sort of a screen which would say that you would be making edits directly to your plug in on this can affect your website. So, believe me, this has the potential to crash Arent our website or crush your plug in that you're working with. So really be careful when you head over to the screen. Ah, once you click on, I understand it's gonna allow you to see all the source good off the plug ins that you have installed. So right now, as you can see, I am on the screen where it shows me the source code off a kiss mitt. The plug in that we saw the first Now since all the plug instead are installed over here are under GPL. That's the GM GNU general public license, which is an open source license. All the source code off that Logan would be provided over here in the screen, on the right. Inside, you can see all the scripts that are present in that particular Blufgan. This can include PHP files. Ah, text files and CSS files. All these files which control the Blufgan. So you can click on any of these files to see the particular code inside off it. There you go, rapper dot PHP has this code, and then he goes to change the plug in from this drop down over here. So all the plug ins that you have installed will show up over here. Now, drop shadow boxes is the one that I manually uploaded a couple of seconds ago. Now, when I click on its name and then on this leg button, its source good loads up over here, and you can click on any of these options to see the source. Good off it on DA. You can make the edits, but for this you need to have an understanding off ph. B. The language in which these plug ins are written as well. A CSS, which is the styling language that is used for these begins. If don't have any knowledge in these languages, I would strongly recommend you to stay away from the screen or this section and not make any changes. Because if you make any changes, even the very basic change of deleting one of these commoners or one of these semi colons or these quotation marks the entire plug in May crash on Miss stop working. And it may also make your complete website on functional. So yeah, this goes exactly like it goes in the editor for the appearance section where you were supposed to add a themes. So do take care that you don't really mess around this particular place unless and until you have a good knowledge off programming. 21. Users - Part 1: Okay, so now we move on to the next option. That is users. Ah, it's just below the plug ins option that you can see on the left side, um, on your left side bar. So what users interface does is it lets you add edit the lead or, in total, manage all the users which are registered on your word breast website. So it's actually very simple whenever a user comes over to your website, just like your register on a social networking website or on a email service or some sort of Web site on a word breast website. Also, you can allow any user to register. You know, the users may register themselves or you can create a profile for them using this particular interface. The first option that you get to see over here is add new on. By clicking this button, you'll be able to add a new user to your WordPress website. Next one would be, ah, couple off links like this one showing all than administrator. I'll come back to this after I have explained to you what use the rules are. Ah, just below that, you will see ah, one of the users, which is listed over here called Admin one. This is basically me. My user name would be and men one. I'm not set any name right now, so it shows blank. Then it shows my email, which is actually not my email. But I had created a random email i d for this website and that is what it shows up over here. Then it shows the rule which is administrator, and the number of posts that I have created are written on this website. That's a very quick overview off. Ah, you know, Ah user who is listed over here now there are a couple off more options over here. As you can see, one being bulk actions and the other one being change role to both actions would simply mean that you can select ah lot off users together. And then you can take an action on it, such as If I select this one, I can delete that particular user. Now, since I'm the only admin user right now, I'm gonna delete myself or else I won't be able to logging into this website. So I'm not going to do that. But if I had multiple users over here, I would have been able to select a lot of them on delete a lot of them so that that option is generally available here using the delete Ah, feature in the bulk actions. Once you select a delete, you have to click on this apply. But next to it for that action to happen, another next part would be changed. A rule to what this means is you can basically change the rule off a particular user to a different role. Now, before you understand that, you need to know what rules are now on a word breast website, anybody can register. Of course, if you just open the registration out to the world, anybody would be able to register. But I should. All the users have the same privileges off the same rights. And I imagine if he just opened up your website to everybody, a random user just logs in and becomes the administrator off your website. That person has the capability to delete any post any page or even crash your entire website wipe clean. That access is therefore administrators. So to avoid that sort of a thing. Ah, there are several rules that have been created in WordPress, which you can use according to your requirement. I'll start from the bottom. Ah, the 1st 1 you see is administrator. This particular rule has all the rights on WordPress. 100% everything you can create, oppose, edit, opposed elite, opposed or create a page, or at immediately media literally everything that's there on this dashboard, including adding a plug into leading a plug in or a theme, What server is available all off that is available to an administrator. So whenever you're deciding this particular rule to be given to a user, think it through and give it to somebody on that you trust next one would be editor editor would come just one level below administrator. So what I editor can do is the person can edit boasts that have bean submitted on your word breast website now once again and like to reiterate that work breast initially was created as a blogging platform. So a lot of these rules you will find some sort of a similarity. Ah, with the blogging ecosystem. So as human no editor is something that generally publications have, or media organizations have similar to that a blood may also have an editor because off that ah, what happens is if there are several posts on your website. Ah, you may probably need to have people who can manage those suppose and just manage those posts or pages. That right is there with the editor. So an editor would be able to write a new post, delete existing boasts or, you know, manage any boast or pages that are there on your WordPress website. The next option would be author on author. It would be able to just write posts or create posts and publish them. Ah, the Auker won't have a right to edit or delete anybody else's supposed. That right would be there with the editor. So, author, as you can see, is one level below editor. Just write your own. Both manage your own both. That's it. Contributor would come just one level below author. In this, you would be able to contribute posts, but you won't be able to publish them or do anything with them. All they can do is if you have a couple of ideas and you're a contributor to a website, you can contribute posts, and then probably the administrator off the Web site or the editor of the website will take an action which can be either publish or delete or accept or reject whatsoever they want to do with it. They can even edit your post before they take it life, so all of that access would be there with the with the administrator off the editor. But as a contributor, all the user can do is complete boasts on Finally, is subscriber, who practically can do nothing when it comes to creating off posts, are taking any action. A subscriber is just a user who has registered on the website and has subscribed to the website. The person will probably receive updates if you want to share abates with them something like email updates or something like that. But that's all. Subscribers have pretty much no rule as such when it comes to this, unless and until you allow them to have a lot off rights and access is. But this is probably the very basic form of registration that you can allow to outside users. So yeah, that would be pretty much all the rules that word breast provides in this particular dashboard. There are custom bludgeons, however, which you can use. And you can create customized rule, for example, human. Like a couple of features from the offer on Human. Like a couple of features from contributor, you can merge both off them. You can probably, you know, create a custom rule, which you can name it as anything, and you can use that as well. So I'll. But the link off that custom plugging in the description for you. Ah, but yeah, pretty much. That's how it is now, since this option is a bulk option sort of thing. What this does is you can select a particular user. Click on this, drop down, click on what rule we want to change the rule to, and then click on this change button. So what will happen is if the user, for example, in this case, is an administrator. Right now, if I select this and taken action off, converting this user status of the user rule into author and clicking on this change button , the user role would simply change this. You can do to multiple authors or multiple users who have registered on your website, so that's pretty much what this option does. Um, next would be the search box that you can see over here. Ah, what you can do. Ah, with the help off this search boxes, if you have several users registered on your website maybe really hectic for you to find a particular user using the person's even lady or name or user name or something like that, so you can just use this particular box to search for any registered user on your website. 22. Users - Part 2: the next option that we are going to look into would be add new user. So we'll just go ahead and click on this button over here, which say's add new. Either you can click on this button or you can click on this option over here, which is just below all users. Both of them mean the same, and they'll take you to the same interface. So once you click on this, this form would open up, which would ask you, Ah, a couple off questions about who the new autor is gonna be. Our the user is gonna be Let's just ah, get a new user name, Scholar Random User Let's give the random user a random Yumileidi. All right, surrender my team a welcome friend. Um, user Ah, you don't You don't really need to fill up the website field. It's not mandatory. Neither is first name and last name. Once you click on that button Ah, strong password would be generated by word breast. Now this particular password you can just noted somewhere are you can just, you know, check this option which is checked by default. What this does is it sends the new user and email about their account. So the user whose email has been provided over here with receding a notification from your website that they have gotten a new account created on your website on day can start using it. No, I have all the user details to just password and all that sort of stuff. The final thing that we should be looking at is the user role in this case. I want the usual to the subscriber. It is the basic rule. I can obviously change it later on. But let's just go with subscriber right now. Click on add new User. Once you do that, you will be able to see that a new user has been created, whose details are listed over here. The name would be random. User email would be random and email dot com. The rule would be subscriber and the post would be zero. All right. So unlike the 1st 1 which was the administrator, you will see that there is a delete option. Also, it shows up over here. So by clicking this, you would be able to delete this user a swell. So if you want to try that, you can just quickened. Delayed. It'll ask you for, you know, confirming that you want to delete this user. Once you click on this, the user has been deleted. So that's all that's the only extra option that you get to see when it comes to this. Sort off. Ah, a new user that you want to create. Now, finally, we are going to see these two options. One would be added on the other. One would be view by clicking on edit, you will be able to add it the details. So the details that we just created right now for a new user on the left side Bari will be able to edit all those details for any user on By clicking on view, you'll be able to view that particular user on your website. So this would be my offers archive that you see on the website. It shows all the post that I have written over here and that salt. So if you click on view, that's all what you get to see the list off posts that the author has written on your website 23. Users - Part 3: All right, So now we move on to the last option under users, which say's your profile on. We're going to see the interface over here. So what you're propel will do for you is it will allow you to edit your profile, add details or delete details pretty much the same thing that you did when you click on the Edit link just below the name off a user. But here you will have a little bit more off options as compared to that. So the first option that you get to see over here would be the visual editor. Ah, you have an option to disable a visual editor while writing Now, this is something that used to be very useful before the Gutenberg interface ruled out onward breasts. So there used to be, ah, HTML editor for writing posts and pages, as well as a visual editor, which had a few options like bold and oldest formatting options that you get to see in Microsoft Word and stuff like that so that you could have had disabled over here. Moving on to the next part would be disabled syntax highlighting when editing code now in appearance, the last option as you saw Waas the editor. So the editor allowed you to edit the PHP code. Are the CSS code off the theme? Similarly, you can also add it the PHP code and CSS scored for your plug ins. Now, when you write something wrong or attack the wrong syntax, it shows up. Ah, some sort off. You know, an indication that there is something wrong in this particular line or in this particular syntax that you can disable over here. If you disable that, even if you right a wrong code over the editor, it won't show up. There won't be any indication. So these two are fairly those options that generally are not used much. Ah, moving onto the next one would be admin color scheme so you can see that there's a color scheme for this entire dashboard and this is the default one. There are a couple of more color schemes that are available right now, such as the light one. If you click on this changes to something like this. There's a blue one. There's a coffee one. I generally like this default one, so I'm going to stick with that. But if you like any other color combination Over here, you can select that and you can use that as well. Next one would be the keyboard shortcuts. So you can set your keyboard shortcuts and all that sort of stuff by checking on this option. Ah. Then comes the toolbar, The toolbar meeting this particular tool bar on the top that you see here it says howdy admin and you know the word breast logo, the website name and all that sort of stuff over here. You can disable this while you are viewing the website. So if we go to the website right now, you won't be able to see any tool bar on the top. So it's just simply the website. Now, if you check this option on and then if you click on update profile which is at the bottom off the page and then you refresh your website, you won't see that the toolbar shows up over here. A swell. Now, the Stuber will not show up to anybody who comes to your website. It will just show up to the people who are logged in into your website. Ah, it's completely your choice. If you wanna enable it or disable it. You can even use a plug in to do this particular task. Eso It's completely your choice if you toggle Teoh show toolbar than it will show up. If you don't, then it just doesn't. Then there is your user name part which ah, the user name is something that you decide while you are creating the user profile Are you know, when you were setting up the WordPress installation, I believe the admin user name is set up while you are setting up WordPress on Once the user name has been set, it cannot be changed. So that's a very basic word. Breasts indication sort of thing. There are a couple hacks how you can change the user names as well. But there is a chance that human mess up a lot of things by doing this. So I would recommend you to learn more about it. Before you go ahead and change. You use her name. Then you can set your first name. Last name? Ah, your nickname. You can have a nickname over here that you can change that you can set to anything that you want. Then there is the display name publicly as, um, of course, I don't have my first name and last name right now, but if I had my first name and last name right now, then it will start showing up over here in this drop down. So let me just do that. So whenever you write a post or you create a page or something like that, you can add ah, byline just below the title or anywhere on your website. Which shows who the author of this posters. And once you set your public name to be displayed like this, it will show up like that. So let me just change it to random user. There we go. Now, if I just quick on update profile, See, it used to be written admin one previously, but now it shows up as random user because I changed it. Okay, So after that part, you can, of course, change your email. I d. Now, this is quite important part because if you ever forget your password, this is where the reset password link is sent to. So you need to be really very careful with this. A swell. You can add your website. You Earl, over here. Then there is some bio information. So you can write a line or two about yourself. You can use Emojis over here. All that sort of stuff is there. Then comes the part about your profile Picture. Your profile picture is set by ah WordPress Service called gravity are now graft. Are is a website where you need to go and then you need to sign up using your email. I d gravity r stands for globally recognized avatar. Ah, so you just It's a free service. You need to log into here and then you can just use your email. I d that used over their gravity are. And if that email ideas seem as this email I ity over here, then your profile picture from gravity Arable show up over here. Now why this is being used is ah, If you are a member off multiple word breast installations, for example, if you have award breast website, your friend may have a word burst website or some other random person might have a WORDPRESS website where you have a profile set. You can have one common profile picture everywhere. You don't need to update that you just need to goto one place that's gravity are you can update it over there, and once you do that gets updated everywhere. You just don't need to do that manually. So I think gravity are helps in that sort of a purpose. But if you want to have a man milk profile, picture something like that, I'm sure there's a plug in for it. If you install that, you will be able to do that. Similarly, If you have Facebook, log into Twitter, log in or some sort off a plug in like that, which allows people to log in using their social media. The Social Media Profile picture is generally updated over here. Instead, off the gravity are than the last option that you get to see over here is generate password . This will allow you to generate a password for your account. So you see this passwords really long has special characters and numbers and capital letter letters and small letters and everything like that. So if you want to generate a password and if you click on a date profile, that password gets set and ah, you know you can start using that password from later on Now, if you have multiple sessions logged in a different computers, a different I p dresses, that means different locations. Then you can log yourself out from everywhere. So, for example, if you went to the public library on, then you forgot to log yourself out there. You can use this option to log yourself out from everywhere that you know off. Ah, that will be all when it comes to your profile. Ah, I think there are a lot of options over here that you can use and you can change and all that sort of stuff. So I would recommend you to go ahead and try this out on understand even further. 24. Tools: Now we move on to the next option over here, which is called tools. It's just an X option after users, and once you click on it, the first option under it, which is available Tools kits automatically selected In this interface, you won't get to see much except for just 12 which is in built into WordPress Ah, which is called categories and tags can border Now if you recall, we had discussed this previously as well, when we were discussing the categories interface in the Tanks interface. What this does is it converts the categories into tags on tags into categories. So in case if you have any tags which you want to be converted into categories or some categories, which you want them to be converted into tags literally the same thing that we had ah discussed previously. That thing is shown up over here a swell so you can do that? Ah, moving on to the next option is import. Click on that and you will see a couple of options over here. Ah, what this does is it allows you to import an existing blawg or ah website from some other platform in to WordPress. So what used to happen back in 2000 and 5 2006 or even tourists? 2000 and eight. Ah, there used to be so many blogging services, and people used to sign up all for them. And ah, Then when there was WordPress, WordPress made it really very easy for those users to transfer all their work into WordPress platform with just a few clicks so that they can gain users on. That's exactly how word breast started growing. So a couple off services that you can see over here the 1st 1 starting with Blogger Ah, blogger is the blogging service by Google. So if you have an existing blawg over there, you can just install this plug in by clicking on install now. And after that you can provide all the details that you have for your blogger Blawg and that would be imported over here on WordPress. So if you click on details, you will be able to see the details off the plug in. There you go. These are a couple of details off that Blufgan. Similarly, there is this blogger ruelas Well, which imports off links in opium l format. The next one would be categories and tags converter, which we have already discussed in the last screen after that would be Life Journal, which used to be a famous service. Um, a long time ago. In fact, back in those days, even I was not into a development. Um, it's probably, I guess are in 2000 and three or something like that. So I'm not really very sure how to use that. But if you have any blogged from that time, you can still use it in WordPress, and you can transfer all you work from over there first and movable type and type bad, which used to be quite popular. Ah, I've never used them. But hurry. Call back in 2000 and seven and 2000 and eight people used to talk about that, so that's obviously there. Ah, then the next one would be our cess, which is the really simple syndication. That's what it stands for. So it's the RCIs feed, which is really popular. It's used for subscribing to update off blog's, and if you have an RCIs feed off any website you can import that in the world persists. Well, uh, next would be tumbler eso If you have a tumbler Blawg. You can import that on WordPress, which means that if you have another WordPress installation somewhere else, you can export it from over there and imported over here, so that option is also available. Speaking of exporting, the next option would be export. So once you click on that, you would be presented with a couple off options. Ah, like if you just want to export all your posts or all their pages or all your media so individually, you can also select them. Or if you want to select all the content that is there on your WordPress installation, once do this. And if you click on download export file, the entire website in an XML format is going to get downloaded onto your computer. And if you have a WordPress installation somewhere else, you can use this to import all of that into a different installation. So that option is also available to you. So I'm not going to save this. I'm just gonna hit cancel. But ah, if you if you really wanna export your website and important somewhere else, this option is there for you. Next option is called site help, which is basically ah, some sort off an interface that checks Ah, you know your website and how healthy it is. So it would be checking if you're using any inactive plug, Answer if you should remove them, it would give you some recommendations to make a website. Even better, It will check if there are any critical issues like the one that shows over here to me that my PHP version needs an update. That means I'm using an older version off BHP which may open up my website to some serious threats from hackers. So all this sort of recommendation is shown over here, and then you can click on the info tab and you can see an overview off your entire website like the Derrick tree and the sizes and how your website is placed your word, breast version and all that sort of stuff. So this is kind of like an overview, and if you can understand of all of this, then it would help you, you know, understanding the situation off your website. What sort of a condition or website is in and what are the changes that you can do to make it even better. So this is exactly what site Health does for you. Next part would be export personal data on a raised personal data, which is the option just after that. Now, these are the options that were added after privacy laws became really important in certain countries. One of the very common ones that we know off would be GDP are in the European Union. So what happens is every user who registers on your website or whose personal data you are storing the user has all the rights to delete that from your server. So if this happens that you create some sort off a social networking website or a forum or something in which there are a couple off users who don't want to continue their membership on your website and their request you to the lead there, ah, you know personal information that you're hosting on your website or on your server, or if they want to download all the data that you have over here than this option is the one that will allow you to do that. What happens is I'll just Sal just explained in a nutshell exactly how that is gonna work. Ah, user requests you to get all the data that you're hosting on. Once that requests comes up, you can create that sort of a request from here. Once the request has been generated, an email goes to the user who confirms that. And once the user confirms that request is lined up under the confirmed tab over here, after that, the user can download all his or her data, keep it with them. And once that is done, you need to head to the next option over here, which is called a race Personal data. And then you can delete all the data of that particular user from your server. Since this option is related with the privacy laws, I'm sure every country has a different law in place. So I would recommend you to go and speak with your local lawyer or somebody who has an idea about this. And after that, utilize this option accordingly. I'm gonna give you certain links off how this tool can be utilized. And what are all the features or the tweaks that you can do and how you can you slice this , um, police check the description area for the links. Ah, but apart from that, this is exactly what the tools section is all about. So, yeah, this sums up our tools section on the WordPress interface. Thank you very much for joining. See you in the next class. 25. Settings - Part 1: All right. So now we come to the last option that is there in the WordPress interface, which is called settings. And as the name say's Ah, this is where all the basic settings off the websites are there and you can control it from over here. So the first part was called General and this has really basic information over here. The 1st 1 is the site title. As you know, I have named my website as a random website. So this remains like this. You can change the site title from over here. You also have this option in the customized option under appearances. If you remember somewhere over here, it could have had changed the site title over there as well. And you can change it from here is well so it's literally the same thing. Ah, the next option is taglines. If you wanna tag lane by the websites or just one line describing where the website is all about, you can add that over here. Then there is the option for the WordPress address on the URL. Ah then decided dress on. Then the email address that would be the main email address off the administrator. This is the email address that you give while you are setting up your WORDPRESS website. You can change that over here, a swell next option of would be membership, which means if you want to allow anybody to register onto your website, so if you don't want anybody else to register on your website, you can turn this thing off our by default. It does not check, so it means nobody can register into your website. But if you want to enable this, if you want people to be able to register onto your website, you can just check this and this will allow people to register onto your website. Once you allow people to register. The next would be the default rule that those users should get. So if you recall, we had discussed a lot of user roles in the user stab in the previous classes. So you can also set this up over here that the new user who is signing up onto your web side by default, what rule that users should get. Ah, by default, it just set to subscriber. You can change, do anything that you want. Next would be the site language. Um, my website is English, United States. You can have ah, lot off. Languages are actually available forward breasts, including a lot of English to, so you can use anyone, whichever you want to use. Ah, then the next one would be the time zone. Right now, I haven't said the Times on anything, So by default, it's just UTC plus zero. You can set it according to the country that you're based in. Then there is the date format, which basically means how the date should show up and the time format, which means how the time should show up. There's also relevant preview for both these options over here on the link to the documentation off that. So that's all for the General Settings Page that you see under settings. This would be the first option that you get to see next. One would be writing to click on that you will be able to see this sort of an interface. Ah, this has ah, The 1st 2 option would be default post categories, which means that whenever you write a new poster is ah default category that it gets assigned to. If you recall when we were discussing categories In the beginning glasses. I had told you that there would be one default category off WordPress That just doesn't go away. That's always there. So you can decide which category it would be right now. It would be all posts which was initially named as uncapped ago Rice, which I had changed all posts. Similarly, there is the default post format. Now. WordPress has many of formats like Tumblr. You can have ah, chats of format. You can have a gallery, a link. All of this used to make a lot of sense back when Gutenberg interface wasn't there after the Gutenberg interface has come, this really doesn't make a lot off usage because ah, you know, all of this is available in the form off blocks. So previously there was nothing called blocks and you couldn't do anything like it. But now, since it is available, this is not much used. So if you switch back to the older interface off WordPress, you will get to see that there are so many formats off posts that you can decide and here you can decide what should be the default post format. So according to usage, you can decide if you want to use this or not. Next option would be something called Post Fire email. Now, this allows you to post a block post using email. What do you exactly do is you create an email lady, you provide all the details of that email I d over here, such as the server where it is hosted the port through which it can be accessed. The email i d. Itself, which would be the log in name, then the password off that email. I d on a default post to category for that. What will happen is if you write an email and send it to that particular email, I d. It would automatically be posted over here on your WordPress. So I'm not really very sure if a lot of people to use this. But if you want to use this and give it a try, you can fill up all these details. You can also have a simple Jima lady for this or your own customized email. I D. If you have an email server or anything like that, you can provide all those details over here on once you send an email to that email, I d it pull. Get posted over here and assigned to this default category that you have selected. What happens is if anybody else get to know about that particular email and sends an email over there that will also get posted over here on your WORDPRESS website. So decide. According to it, you can have a really complicated email. I t. You can use one of those strings that WordPress is just ing over here. And according to that, you can set this up if you have a requirement for it. Next part is the update. Services are the pinging services. Now, what this exactly means is that there is a list ofall these update services that WordPress is directly connected with. It's whenever you write a new post. It updates all those services that a new block coast has been posted. And what that does is it gets you a little bit more off a traffic and visibility. Ah, because your bloke post would be indexed and curated by all the popular updating services out there. This would also help users. Oh, are your readers or potential readers to nobody website? Nobody blog's and all that sort of stuff. Right now I have disabled the search engine optimization and all that sort of stuff from the visibility settings because of which you won't be able to see anything in this particular ah section. But once you enable this, what happens is worth breast would just start to update all depots that you're posting on your website. Once you're done with this, the next option that we see is called reading. Now, reading has a couple of options as well. Really simple. To follow the 1st 1 once again is kind of a repetition because we covered this under customized in the appearance section. Ah, this basically decides what your home page should show up. Either is gonna be your latest posts or a static page. So if you click on this, you will have an option to select what should be your home page one being sample page, the one page that we have created as off. Now I know that we don't have any other paid, so nothing shows up. Then there is the Post's page. If you have a sample page as a homepage, then you can decide another page to be or both speech, Um, literally the same thing that we had discussed during the customized option. After that, the next option that you get to see is how the number off posts that your home page or your blood page should show up. Ah, by default, it's 10. You can have more than that. You can have lesser than that sits stint, totally up to you. Then there's the syndication feed, such as ourselves, feed and all that sort of stuff. Ah, you can also control the number of items they should also show when they are pulling out. The most recent posts are the most recent items, so that that is also set to tend by default. You can change that if you want to. Then you can also decide what should show up in the feed, like the RCIs feed or any other syndication feed. I think most popularly it would be our CIS feed. You can decide if a summary off the post should show up or the entire text by default. It is Theo entire text or the full text, but you can also change that to summary. The last option is the search engine visibility. If you check this option? What happens is your website becomes ah hidden website and no search engine would be able to see your website. Ah, so when you're building your website when it is still in progress when it is still been built, its ideal that you check this option so that Google and any other ah search engine doesn't start to just index your website because it's going to be a lot of sample content and a lot off demo content which shouldn't be seen by search engines really not going to help your website. So you just check this option on since in my case, this is a demo website, I have also checked the sun. Once your website is ready to go live, you can just uncheck this and then Google and all other search engine bots would be able to crawl your website and it will get a visibility in all the search engines 26. Settings - Part 2: So now we move on to the next part, which is discussion. Ah, the discussion interface allows you to have all the settings or to control all the settings that is related with your comments. So what happens is, since WordPress was initially built as a blogging platform, there used to be readers and users used to come to the website, and then there used to be an interaction between the blocker as well as the readers, so that discussion component can be controlled from over here. This is primarily done through comments that you have on your posts and pages on all of that can be modified or control from here. The first option that you get to see over here is the default article settings, the first check box being attempt to notify any blog's linked to from the article. So if you're writing an article on your word breasts ah, website and if you have linked to any other block in that particular article, if you check this box as on what this will do is work breasts using it. Update services or pinging services will notify the other bloggers well, so the other blawg administrator or blogger will get to know that you have linked that blawg on your Arctic go. So that's probably one of things. Once the other person gets to know, maybe the other person may come and drop a comment. Or maybe the person may want to share because you have linked to them in your posts. So all of that next one is allow link notifications from other blog's being backs and cracked bags are new articles. This is just the other way round off the first option that you saw. That means that any other notifications are links are pings. That means if any other blogger is hyper linking to you are linking to any of your post or any off your, uh, you know, you are l off your website. You will get a notification that you have been linked on some other websites. Ah, following that, you can probably shared the other link or something like it. Once you get a ping back or track back, you will be able to see it under the comments option over here. Finally, the next one would be allow people to post comments on new articles. So if you allow this It means people would be able to post comments on your articles or the posts that you post on your word breast website. Next is coming. Author must fill out name and email so you can make this thing a mandatory thing. That who so ever wants to commend on your website should fill out his or her name as well as the email I d. This will allow you to keep a track off all those people who are commending on your website , and you can contact them if you want to. Next one is users must be registered and logged in to comment. This is something which is very useful if you're running a membership sort of website like ah forum or something off that sort. Ah, what this will do is, um, it will allow only loved in and register the users to comment, which means that any random user who comes to your website won't be able to comment to comment. That person needs to have an account on her website for which he or she has to register first and then logging into your WordPress website on Lee. Then the person would be able to comment. The next option is about automatically close comments on articles older than a certain amount of days. Well, this basically means is that if an article is older than a certain amount of days, as you can see right now by default, it is 14 days. The common section on that article will be disabled, which means the common section would only be enabled for the 1st 14 days after the article has been published. Once the article has been published in 14 days have passed, the comments section would be disabled, which means nobody else would be able to comment on that particular post after this certain amount of days. Ah, by default, it's not checked, but you can check this on if you want to, then the next option is a show. Comments. Cookies Upton Check box Allowing comment Author cookies to be set Now This option is also something related with the privacy laws and privacy settings that you can have on your website, which will basically ask the user that the cookies are required for this particular comment thing To function. Now, the user will have an upped in check box that the person can check in or uncheck or whatsoever they want to do. Ah, that's all. For this option, the next one would be enable threaded or nested comments up to five levels deep. So when a user post a comment and you replied to that, it becomes one level deep, which means one level off reply. Then when the user replies to your comment, it becomes to level deep on DSO on and so forth. What you can set over here is that how many level deep the comments nest can go by default . It is said to five, but you can go upto 10. The next one would be break comments into pages with 50 top level common spur page on the last page displayed by default. Now this very basically means that if you have a lot of comments on your page, you can create some sort off a page nation ah, which will allow all the comments to be organized according to pages. So what this does is you can set a number off comments that is supposed to be shown on the first page on the rest of the government to be Xun on the next page, so That's exactly what this option does. Finally, comments should be displayed with the older comments at the top off each page. Now you can also toggle this one if you want the older comments to show first or the newer comments to show off first. After this, the next option would be emailed me whenever anyone posts a comment. Ah, this very basically means that you will be receiving an email when someone posts comment or a comment is held for moderation. Both these options You will be receiving email notification whenever this happens. Next is ah, before a common appears. Our common must be manually broked, which means that if anybody post a comment, you need to first approve them can be done by probably the editor as well as the administrator off the website. Then the common author must have a previously approved comment. If you check in this box, what happens is if ah, comment author, who has previously commented something on your website on it was approved. Then the next time the comment by that particular author would be posted without being manually approved. So what this happens is the first time you get to check what sort of comment the person is doing. And if you have approved that, once the system will realize that the person is, you know, safe and you can post all their comments on your website. So that's what this option means. The next one would be common moderation. This option shows that hold the common in the queue. If it contains. Two are more links. So this is, ah, moderation thing that board breast has provided. In this. You can add a couple of words I p addresses, e mails or your else. And if any of these words are seen in the comment, which means, if any, off the users types in any off these words in the comment than that comment would be moderated. Which means that comment won't people stayed on. Do you have to manually approve that sort of comment for that to be posted? This helps in reducing spam comments that you receive on your WordPress website so you can probably have certain words that you feel are in appropriate, and you don't want them to show up on your website. You can just have a couple off. Those worst listed over here separated by commas, and then the word persistent will check every time. When anything like that happens. The next box is also pretty much similar in this. What you need to do is you need to add certain words which should be blacklisted. And if any common contains any of these words than it would directly go into trash here, it would go into the moderation to you. Here it would go into trash. The next one would be the Avatar Spartan. If you want to show the avatar off the particular user, which means the profile picture off that particular user who is boasting the government, you can check or uncheck this box as you like. You can also decide the rating off the comments Over here. It pretty much goes according to the movie rating initials that we use. So that part's over here. And finally, what sort off a default avatar you want to use for the person who is commenting. Ah, by default. It's a mystery person, which is this logo you can have blank. You can have the relevant gravity our logo are identical on or were avatar. So these are all these profile pictures, services that are there similar to grab it or a graft are being theme most popular one, I believe. Ah, you can also go and check these out and if you want to enable any off this, you can go ahead and do that by default. It will always be mystery person. So as you see this screen are this particular page is all about how you can control the discussions, how you can control the type off comments that come into your world breast website. What are the ones which is supposed to be moderated, which are the ones which is supposed to be Blackley stead in ah short. This is the place where you can control all these bam's that a lot of people will come and post on your website to just keep your website clean and, ah, you know, keep it safe and free from any malicious links which may, in fact, your website and McCrea trouble for your website 27. Settings - Part 3: then we move on to the next option, which is media settings. Now. What media settings does is it allows you to decide the thumbnail size or the images sizes to your media library. Now there are a couple of sizes that WordPress has already decided for you, the 1st 1 being thumbnail, which would be the smallest one. Then there's the medium size on the large size. He can decide the width and height off the images over here. And whenever you update our upload anything onto your word breasts website, they would be set to this particular width and height automatically. The next option would allow you to categorise all your uploads according to month and year based folders. Now, this will apply to any media that you're uploading, which includes video or audio images, whereas this part is only aptly cable to images. After this, The next option that you get to see is Burma links. Permal ing basically means the U. R L structure. Ah, that your posts have so you can decide what sort of a Ural structure the pool should have off course. The four spot off the you Earl is just gonna be the domain name. So you cannot change that Over here. Could have changed that from the general settings over here if you recall. But here you can change the stuff that comes after the domain name. Right now, my per maling settings is year than month than day. And then post name, post name. If you recall when we were creating post, there was that option for slug where I could type in anything which was generally the title . So that slut thing that you decide is what the post name is rest. Everything is automatically set, such as the year or the month or the day get also have other things which is the our minutes second ah, post I d, which is randomly created by WordPress, the category, the author, name and all that sort of stuff. You can add all of that in your Perma link. Do you ensure that you don't have a really long per maling because it may be really very tough for users to share your you or else once you have a long Burma link, just ensure that you Permal ing is good enough or descriptive enough. Finally, we are in the last option under settings, which is privacy. Ah, this page or this interface allows you to set a page or select a page which defines the privacy policy off your website. This is also due to the recent laws that the countries have implemented when it comes to the user's privacy on the Internet, such as the GDP are in Europe so you can select a privacy policy page. Ah, one of the draft pages is already available in your word breast pages you should consult with your local laws are somebody who has an idea about all of this. And then you can create all that content that is supposed to go in the privacy policy page . And then you can use that particular page to set or select ah privacy Policy Page, which your users can read. This is very important from ah legal standpoint on, I would recommend you to really study this deeply before you go ahead and select a page for privacy policy. Ah, for your WordPress website. So it that theseventies option is complete. Ah, this is how you can control or modify any settings. Ah, for your entire world breast website 28. Thanks: Hi, everybody.
