Hey everyone! I'm a graphic designer based out of New Delhi, India. I started my education in architecture & realized mid-way that making art made me more happy than making buildings. I started learning Illustrator and Photoshop in my free time (thanks to Skillshare) and moved into the line full time post graduation.

I currently work as a graphic designer and social media manager with a start-up. I love all things colorful and pattern-isc (the INDIAN ROOTS). I realized that my journey has only been possible because of the wonderful teachers I had and motivates me to give back my teaching.

PS. I would love for you to join me on Instagram. I often share tit-bits about upcoming classes, current art projects, my do... See full profile

1. Introduction: Hi, guys. I'm Critica on. I'm a graphic designer from India. Welcome to my city's geometric patterns on a one. This is basically a cities which deals with making off different geometrical patterns. As you would see, geometrical patterns are really on the rise since days they are everywhere. They make excellent backgrounds on Oh, for you know, subtle layering or etcetera in brochures, perhaps is book covers, mobile covers, etcetera. So within each class you will own a different kind of pattern on the various scope on options that are available within that particular type of baton. Most of the classes use Adobe for the shop and illustrator. In today's starts, which is shape and shape Patton, people basically loan to create a pattern like the one in the bedroom, which is made by creating over shape within another on then coloring them etcetera. We would probably be using Adobe Illustrator in this. Within each class, you will learn the radius kind of options that are available to you, such as the meeting square patterns, over half circular patterns, etcetera. You will learn all the basics off this on, even if you're not an expert in last traitor, It doesn't matter. I will teach you all the ropes offered. So I hope you're doing role in the class on. Trust me, there's a lot of locked alone for you. So see you soon. Thank you. 2. Class Project: for your class project on you need to do is to complete the task on then, taking from what you've learned, just create any shape in shape pattern that you want to create. If you want to go the extra mile, perhaps you could create a productive mark up like this. So that's all for the class project. Let's go want to learning how to create our own pattern. 3. Setting Up Your Workspace: Hi, guys. Let's begin. So the first thing we're gonna do with that if we're gonna set our paper size on, we're gonna set up our art board. So simply go to file. Click New on Let the would be 9 60 pixels by 5 60 pixel for height on. Let's give the or in additional horizontal on simply press. OK, so this is your basic car boot size right now, and I'm gonna show you how to make in geometrical shape within a geometrical shape and then make the patent as they've been seeing in the previous videos. It's enough. The first thing we need to do. Is that going to hold the tangle tool for now, I'm gonna teach you. How are we gonna make this with rectangle tool? But then you can keep experimenting and adding whichever shape you want. You can use triangles for this. Oh, or maybe circles anything you wish. So for now, let's couldnt rectangle tool on. I'm just going to click on the screen. What this does is that it enables me to give the size off the rectangle that I won't Sophina. I'm gonna be working with square. So let's keep the size as 40 pixel By what? Deep ixis. So this is my anger on I want another tangle or sorry, another square in the center of this. So what do I do? I, uh, while speaking on oiled I simply left click at the center point by clicking on old I'm interested in rectangle toe. It didn't show us that the second time in the two making is exactly aligned with district angle. I want to simply keep the size off the new rectangle as 20 pixel by 20 pixels. So just gonna change that. Impressed. Okay. And I didn't see that rectangle is made which has the same Centrepoint as the other one. Now what we need to do is that we need to draw lines from this going to this this to this from all the world cyst to make our triangle. But this I usually prefer using the pain too. So simply click on an ankle point. I'm so, so simplistic. And this anchor point and then chicken the sank a point and you have a line press escape. Onda beat. So there you go. My basic shape is now ready. Now what? I need to do with that s So this is and rectangle right now. This is a rectangle on. Now I need to divide this into these pieces. This would be one. This would be one, etcetera. So how I do this, I still select all this. Go to the part finder tool on press on divide. What this does is that the part finder tool picks up these lines itself and divided into different shapes. Now you'll see that this is one shape and this is a noble But I thought that still grouped together, you can move them. So simply click on this leg. This right click on press on one group. Now you go. This is one shape. This is one shape. This is one sheet. No. So this is the basic rectangle that we will be working with. Now, in the next video, I'll quickly show you how you gonna fill in color in this rotated on makeup baton 4. Making Your Pattern: for the next step, I'm gonna quickly start filling in colors in Mary Stagnant. So how do I do this? I have a color palette saved on. I'm just gonna quickly and so this into last. Traitor. I'm just gonna fill in colors in this using this since we just need to fill in colors in one rectangle, we won't be making a rectangle. ISS watches this real directly filling colors using this image. So I'm gonna select each of these, and I'm going to quickly fill in colors. Also, try and keep your inner rectangle or your inner peace has lighter color. So this makes your pattern very nice and deep. So there you go. And that's gonna quickly delete this on. If I have to move around these little undiscovered quickly, move this so that the white gaps don't remain on yet. They finished. So this is my basic rectangle that I would be using to make my pattern. So now I'm just gonna quickly, though, take this by 45 degrees. So I select all of this on I go to object, transform on rotate, and I just rotate this by of 45 degrees. So once is extra dated. I'm going to just move it on, place it at the edge of my paper. So this is one of my rectangle. Now, using some common steps, I'm going to quickly copy this throughout the length of the paper. So this once again, we would be using organ shift to make a copy on, then, using commanders D are controlled his deed to make a work easier. So how do you do this? Basically to select a rectangle and then start moving it on. Want to see this blue lines happening breast All play a ship. This ensures that your rectangle moves in the line on a copies made. Once this is done, start pressing control pills. D on it will make copies on its own at any point. If you need to zoom in or zoom are simply use control and plus or or control plus minus two zumar for Mac, this will be command and plus on or commanded minus. So I'm not gonna exist like this on. I'm gonna make another copy off this using control plus C on control plus F. What control? This s does it A bases in the exact same place. Now, once this is done, I'm gonna quickly shift this using my arrow keys. So now you will realize that this pattern is getting repeated like this on. I don't want that. So I'm going to simply go toe object transform on. I'm gonna present reflect so I can see the preview off, how this is going to be on. This is how I wondered. So I'm gonna press OK on these other two basic lines off my pattern. Now I'm going to simply start making copies of this. So once again, I'm gonna select all this on. I'm gonna start dragging them down on then let press all the shift to ensure that it stays in position on a copies made. Now I'm gonna simply press control bills D on. There you go. My back Tennis made. So this is my Bactine on. Yes, this is done. Now I simply have to crop it to make a seamless pattern out of this. So now, hardware Amiga. Seamless pattern out of this. I'm gonna click on the rectangle tool on. I'm gonna draw a rectangle on the top of this on that will basically be the area I crop out . So if I'm starting from this point, for example, I need to make sure that while I'm cropping my other rectangle, like on this side also the same on downwards to so you know, like these lines are alternating. This is one line. This is one line. So I have to make sure that while I'm cropping I crop from this line and not from this. So the safest way to make sure this happens. Just just check out this Cornel on this stop Go know to make sure that the same. So if I'm cropping downwards, I'm from so I mean that you can see that on the top right hand off the corner. I have this one foot blue rectangular piece on at the bottom right off the corner. I have another 1/4 rectangular piece that's happening. So my cropping horizontal is correct. Now I'd have to make sure it's Simon. Portugal Crop is correct. I just have to make sure my hose on your crop is correct too. So this is not correct. Ah, this is so I simply click on this my rectangles made. Now I'm gonna select all of this on simply go to part finder on crop. What this does is that describes the whole pattern toe only district angler area. I'm gonna quickly check if this pattern is seamless a night. So how do I do that? I simply make copies off my pattern in both directions to make sure that it happened seamlessly. So ah, once again, I select all of this and start moving this pressing olden shipped. As you can see, the baton OD occurred seamlessly and there were no problems. Sanaa I'm going to simply do this in the other direction. Also. Once again, purse old and shift on. There you go. Nothing's wrong. So hence my back and seamless. Now I'm going to simply go to my swatches on. I'm just gonna drag this on. My sort is done. Now I'm gonna delete this. Make another rectangle over here on. Simply put the filling with swords we just made on my seamless pattern is made. Say it's completely ready. Ah, so these white knight in cities seeing right now this is just an illustrator. Guilt. Nothing else 5. Other Patterns: Okay, I So these with the basics off pattern making for any of this geometric patterns which is basically one of the geometric shape within the knowledge metric shape, these are the basic steps you have to follow. You will initially draw both the geometric shapes within each other, using the oil Teoh a key to align them. When you gonna draw the lines is intent to, then you will divide it using part finder on group it, filling your colors, roti transform, reflect etcetera to make your pattern and then finally make it seamless. So I'm not going to quickly explain to you off you more patterns. I meet using this site that I showed you in the beginning of the class. So this is some of them in which I had basically used in Hexagon. Ah, OK, so the patterns are made now, so yeah. So this is the hexagon in which these two were colored in the same color on these in the opposite. So it creates this table s sordo on effect. So this is another bat, another meat in which basically I had made a so called within the circle and then divided it on then finally filled in colors off this different shades of pink and then just overlap them on one on the top off each other. Now, this is another pattern. That meat on this one is a little bit complicated because initially you have to draw lines at like you have to make your triangle. Then you have to draw these lines at 30 degree each toe by folk A This on. Then finally, when you're filling in colors, you cannot just a copy using, um, all the shift on control bills. D you have to keep rotating it on exploring options so that you do not get one Colorado one point In case you decide to explode this pattern, it would be really nice. You'll have a lot of fun. So, guys, these were the basics off this class. I hope you had fun on in case you liked it. You should also check out the other classes in this city's. I'm sure you'll enjoy them. Thank you so much.
