About This Class

Welcome to my basic course for developing and finding your voice. 

You will learn the very basic methods to train the flexibility of your voice and also how keep it healthy. 

The course has 3 main parts:

1. Posture

learn some great exercises you can do everyday to improve your posture and to get a better voice sound.

2. Healthy voice 

meet the healthy sound of your voice and keep your voice healthy.

3. Find and improve your voice 

Let's find your very individual sound!

I'm a classical trained opera singe and actress. Since more than 10 years I am singing and acting on stage as for example at the salzburg festival with the concert association Viennese State opera choir.

I have studied at the university Mozarteum in Salzburg and at the university for music and performing arts Vienna.

1. Find your voice- Introduction: Hi, I'm Sarah. I'm a classically trained soprano from Germany. In this course, I'm gonna teach you how to use your voice and how to improve your voice. We will work on three different topics. Number one is the posture. It's so important to have a good posture while singing or using your voice. And general, number two, is the healthy Voice. How does a healthy voice sound? And how can we improve that great sound? And number three, finding your own voice. How can you improve your own sound of your voice? If there are any questions you're always welcome to ask. And very much looking forward to work with you. 2. Improve your posture : Hi and welcome to the very first lesson. In this lesson, we're going to work on our posture. And for that, I would like to start with a little jumping exercise. It's called 100 jumps. And as the name says, we're going to do 100 jumps. I will stop after ten, but I would like you to do 100. So stuck with me. 123 and great. So now you did 100 jumps and I'm assuming you can feel your body right now very much better than before. I would like you to stand right up and just feel your feet on the floor. Please. Let your knees be relaxed. Like not totally straight, but not also totally relaxed. But like in a really flexible mode. And would like you to close your eyes and feel your feet on the floor. Imagine you're a tree and your roots going really, really deep into the earth. And your posture is super, super right up. And you just feel your breath. You're also can put one hand or both on your tummy and just feel how you breathing. That was great. So the next exercise is a bit more complicated, but I'm sure you can do it. I will put my hair up it together so you can see it better, what you can see better what I'm doing. So standard a comfortable way. Put your chin on your chest like that. And then go slowly down. Really, really slowly and fill your back like that. You can stop here. You can also stop here, but you also can go all the way down. I will do that. And then breathe in. And leave your arms really flexible. And just breathe. Now. Take your hand and put it on your back. Also. You can also put on the other hand, and brief, try to feel your breath in your body. Where is it? Can you feel it here? Or can you be like more up? And when you and then you come up again with breathing out, do that about three times and enjoy. I really liked this exercise because you can really, really feel where your breath goes. I hope it helped. In our society, most of the people are working on a desk, which can be great, but for the posture is really, really bad. So we want to work on that posture. We don't want to put that into our singing buys or in our speaking bys. So most people stand like this. But try to put your shoulder back. You can see the difference. I can I will show you one more time. That's relaxed and bad posture. And this is a good posture. So to improve that posture, we do this exercise. It's really simple. I'm sure you know it, everyone knows it. We will just raw shower, shoulders a little bit back and always stay flexible in the knees and we will change a little bit like that. You also can let your hips move a little bit and feel again. How does it feel? Does it feel better? And brief? Whereas your breath going? So for this exercise, I want you to sit on the floor getting, get a pillow or if you don't need any pillow, just sit right on the floor. Tried to use to sit on the place where you have a wall so you can lean against it. As you can see. My legs are straight. So if you can't do that right now, it's not a problem. Just go into this kind of seat. That's okay. It's important to feel the bones like feel the bones of your hips and your butt right on the floor? I can feel them better when I'm sitting like that. And then during this little shake, tried to do that. And as you do that, it's important to stay right up. That looks a bit funny. But trust me, it's good for the posture and for many other things. And for being flexible in the body. That's really cool. Is good because you can stretch the muscles and everything in your back. So it's easier to stand in a good posture and also to be in a good, better posture when you're working on the desk. That's also a really good reason to do this funny exercise. You also can go a little bit forward if needed. If you feel like you need that. And always tried to breathe in the back. So we will do that together now. Go a little bit forward and breathe in. I hope you could feel it in the bag. And if not, try to do the exercises again. 3. Activate your diaphragm and your voice : Great. Now we have warmed up our body and I would also like to warm up the diaphragm. It's here, it's right here under your lungs. And it's really important for the breath. Put your left or right-hand in your site. And the other hand, on the term. The exercise goes like this. It's important to leave the Tammy relaxed. I will show you from the side so you can see a little better. As you can see when I do, my Tammy goes inside and then it goes out again. In this live very little break, I'm breathing and kind of because my my diaphragm is going down again and as it goes down, air goes into my body. So one more time. Well done. Now, we're also going to warm up our tongue. And at the same time, the diaphragm, and so on. If you can't do it like that, don't worry. You can do it also like that. Yeah. 4. Relax your jaw: Okay, now we have used our voice and I would like you to relax your jaw a little bit. Because sometimes when you do an exercise the very first time, the jar can get a little bit much tension and I want to lose that tension with you together. So as you can see, I have put my Both hands right on my jar here. And I'm just massaging it a little bit like that. And try to be really, really relaxed. Nobody can see you. So don't worry, just relax and also do the other direction. Now we want to really like the, the ad with our phase and leave your mouth open like that. Like you don't understand anything. So what is talking you don't understand anything. That's how you look like. Just do it a few times. And now I want you to put your tongue tip just behind your teeth like that. I hope you can see like that. And I want to I want you to open and close your job like that. Do that a few times and feel the difference. 5. The voice and the wall: What did you find yourself? A wall. A wall or other Locarno. When you have found this little Cornell or wall, which both as pi1, you will first lean against the wall. Also with your Mac, with your head. And feel how that posture fields. And DLLs town like that. Your sound can of course be a little bit higher or a little bit deeper. That's totally okay. That's your voice. And this is my y's. How is your voice sounding too? You try to do that exercise. Maybe one minute or two minutes. Do it as long as it feels good for you, but not too long. And ask yourself a question. How does that feel? Where can I feel my voice? Does it feel good? And how does it sound for me? They only wish I have tried to not use good or bad, tried to be more differentiated. In this exercise, we're going to train our way of speaking. It needs to be clear. Loud, but not too loud. Also, not too silent. Take your finger, do little hook and put it between your teeth like this. And now we are going to talk about anything. Just you can read the news. You can introduce yourself. But you also can talk random, just random things. And after that, take your finger out again and talk and listen. How does it sound? Is it better than I improve? 6. Let's bring it all together: This exercise is supposed to bring breath and the voice together. You can put your hands on your face like that and just imitate me. Please also shake your head and pet while doing that. A very important point in this exercise is to put your tongue right behind your teeth and leave it there. It's relaxed, doesn't go anywhere else. In this exercise, we're going to combine the diaphragm training with legato. So staccato with legato. She, he she she she she this exercise as training that flexibility to the deep notes. One last time. It doesn't have to sound nice. It's there to train the flexibility to the deep notes. So please really try out how deep can you go. This was a lot of fun for me.
