In this course you will learn different components of IT, different types of jobs in IT and which job is right for you based on your background, your knowledge, your education and your taste.


1. Introduction: Hello, everyone. And welcome to my course. Find the right teacher. Let me ask you this question. Have you ever dreamed off getting a job in I t and getting your future secured have a better future but home, better life And, of course, make a lot of money. You do have that in your mind, but you don't know where to start, which I t feels you should start with. You have probably heard from people Get a job in I t. It's awesome, but you don't know you don't have a clear path Where you going to start? Or you probably have heard from people Get a job in database networking PeopleSoft, Oracle. So many of the different technology. But do you think that's a really fit for you? Is that something that you want to do? My course is designed for people like you. My course will teach you What are the different components of i t. What are the different technologies of I t how job works and which are the different jobs out there and what is the best for you? You have heard of people think Do what you know we'll help. It's easy to say. But most of us are not fortunate enough to find what he loved. So at least in my course, you will have the opportunity to pick that you want to work with. And then eventually you were falling in love. So that's above my course. Let me tell you about myself. I've been working in people over 60 years, and in my career I have supporting millions of customers. I have built data centers from scratch. I have built thousands off servers I have belt with so many different people. So many different departments, so many different technologies. I know everything, how Team works together. So if I know all that over these 16 years, so why not? I tell you that all in a little bit short period of time. But this is what I t is, and I want you to pick their white line from that story. 2. Syllabus: Okay, let's take a look. What exactly are we going to learn in this course? What is information technology? Yes, Everybody wants to know. What is it? A lot of us know, but some off them don't really know exactly. The real meaning off information technology will cover that. Because this is something you really should know If you want to get into I t next one is the facts about i t In this lecture we will cover What are the different fats benefits off I t like. How many jobs are out there? We will talk about statistics. Then the next lecture of we will talk about the I T components Now I t components. There are so many of them but the major ones the basic ones that you should really know before you want to start a job in i t here we will co Where? That and this one is very important for you. Hardware. This is going to start coming in from the components. So we will talk about what is Ah, hardware and different jobs off hard way. I really want you to know if you want to start your career in hardware a computer hardware I'm talking about. Then what is that? And what are the different type of jobs out there and how you're gonna get those jobs and whether those jobs are right fit for you or not? So every components and everything from harbor on that I'm gonna cover, I'm gonna cover everything about exactly what that technology is. What happens in that technology, how the technology works. And if it is a good fit for you or not. Ah, and what are the different titles off the job and everything that you need to know? So what is the next one? Is the operating system again? Of course Hardware. You will have the operating system off on top ofit. You need to know what are the different type of operating systems out there. If you want to pick one and you want to have your job in it, let's say Lennox, then you need to know about Lennox. But again, you really need to know what are the different flavors? What are your options then applications and Softwares and of course, guys. And everybody knows there are millions off applications and software. But how I'm going to cover all that. Well, I am not gonna cover all that, of course, but I will cover something that has a value that will get you a good, high paying jobs. You ready? That's keep moving on. Next one is networking. Networking is again. It's something for those folks who wants to get their hands on to the number Exide off it, meaning putting the computers together in a network environment, running cables for the network, troubleshooting What's going on? And of course, we'll cover that later. Then we have security. Then you have all those components you want to know security. And, believe it or not, security is one of the highest paying jobs nowadays in I t. You should definitely look into it if your main concerns is, of course, to get a good future and make a lot of money right next one we have storage down. These are the enterprise level components. Have you want to talk about database? I'm sure you've heard about database like Oracle SQL. Now this is also unique industries. If you want to pick one and you want to learn that, then you don't have to go around and finding every little courses out there that you should look into this course or that course, Pick one database and go with it. Virtualization technology New technology came in a few years ago. It's awesome. It's awesome because you could Ron many, many operating systems on top off organization technology on a lot of people nowadays looking for virtualization exports. And believe it or not, the biggest one is right now is VM Ware for what? There are, of course, many, many other I t jobs. But I will cover the ones the ones that you hear all the time and the one that has a future . Let's go. 3. Facts about IT: Okay, let's talk about facts about information technology. Now, I'm gonna go over the statistics that really numbers that I gathered together, which will tell you whether you have made the right decision or not, whether this I t feel is right for you or not. So let's look at a few of them now. I t role in our life is very important. Out days you have information technology or technology gadgets everywhere you have that in TV and cars you do shopping online. You have phoned full of technology. Then I t jobs are expected to grow by 22% till 2020. Now, remember, guys, we are into 2018 and in two years it's gonna increase by 22%. 68% off. Companies are struggling to find qualified I t candidates. What? It means that 100% of the companies that we have here out of those 68% are still having trouble finding the right person. Are many. I T professionals are making mawr than medical professional nowadays. Now this is not just a fact, but it's it's actually I have seen with my own eyes that there are I T people who are making way more than physicians and doctor and people who are in medical field. Now, 64% off the companies are investing in I t initiated companies that are not in I t. That are manufacturing clothes, building cars, building pianos, making carpets any kind of companies they need, i t. And out of those 64% of them are investing in i t. You don't need ah, high level of education to start in I t. No, I'm definitely not encouraging. Those who don't want to go and pursue their bachelor's and master's have definitely discouraged them. I am just telling people who cannot afford to go to college or who cannot afford to go toe for masters degree. You could still get into I t buy it going through some certification, some courses, and you gotta gain some experience and you could enter the I T field. And, of course, if you have a bashes, agree, and if you have a master's degree, sky is the limit and you will succeed in I t field so fast I teach job salary ranges from 40,000 to 400,000 again. It depends on your experience, your skills and, of course, your qualification as poor. Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2016 the median income off a bachelor's degree holder having an entry level job in i t. Is making above $100,000. Ah, US tech industry worker now anyone Any U. S tech industry worker. Annual wage is above $100,000 as compare to $50,000 off any other worker in any other sector. And the last one is and us in 2015 the jobs that were outsourced, the I T jobs that were outsourced were over two million. The guys that that's definitely definitely something wrong here. It means we don't have the right people. So we are spending our time in different fields. Not that there's anything wrong with other fields, but if you have a field that is growing so fast, so rapidly and companies don't have, don't don't don't can't find people to fulfill those jobs than than what ask yourself, Are you getting Are you making the right decision? But getting into the right field, I have to say yes. 4. Intro to IT: I think at this point you have decided this course is right for you or you still want to learn more about this course. Well, I can tell you that the more you watch and the more you listen, the more you will be satisfied that you have picked the right course. In this lesson, I will cover some basics about information technology like importance off I t. Riel facts about I t. And what really I t mean. And how does it work? So if someone wants to start a career, let's say, being a plumber or a real estate agent or a physician, then he or she should know how those those things work. So I'll tell you how I t works from here, so let's get started. 5. What is IT and How IT works: what is information technology? That's a very basic question, and everyone should know that the true meaning off information technology is basically the transfer off information or data from one person to another, from one location to another to technology. What it really means is that you taking any kind of information and you you're taking from one person to another, and it's going from computers through computers that technology is the underlying technology. Now let's look at a few common questions that you should ask yourself, How about how our T shirt work? What is Is it transferring houses transferring well, it's transferring files, folders, pdf's images, videos, music, instant message emails, the whole bunch of stuff that you have saving your computer. And once you have saved that, you do share it and you share the people with the locations and the company to company, and when do you share it? But there is no time limit. And, of course, why do share it or why the information is being shared among people is because that information helps us makes decision solve problems helps helps us make right planning and eventually it saves us time. Improve our lives and it saves us money. And how all this happening is through the I T components and I t components are the ones of you will be covering and the later lessons. 6. IT Components: Harry will look at the components off i t. It will be a quick list and of course, we will be covering every little components in the later lessons. The major I T components are the 1st 1 is the hardware. The hardware is basically the first piece off computers. It's a it's a piece of break its plastics a tower where you installed the operating system on top of it. Then, of course, the 2nd 1 is the operating system operating system tells the hardware what to do. The applications and software, which runs on top off the operating system and his uses, operates it to tell the hardware what to do. Then you have networking, which actually is a weight to communicate all the computers together. Security. When you have all those major I t. Components together and they are sending and sharing information together, you do need some kind of security. Then we have on the right side enterprise level components. In the enterprise level components we have. The 1st 1 is the storage. Now, of course, you might not need the storage on the major I t. Competence because some off the major I T components are usually at the at the home or residential level, but at the enterprise level, people are companies do have large storage where they store the information, then the 2nd 1 at the Enterprise over. We have two database and we have a virtualization technology, and the last one, we have a cloud technology. We will cover each of thes components one by one in the later lessons, and he will tell you that which job it cars ponds to what type of job titles you should look for in these technologies. 7. Hardware: here we will talk about the computer hardware. Now. This is the basic and first piece off information technology. Hardware is nothing but a plastic or a brick that is running underneath the opening system . You need a different type of hardware that combined together in a box, and they work together. But of course, they need some kind of operating system to make them work. But before we get to the operating system, let's talk about what is inside off this piece off box this equipment. Now there are many different type off hardware that will talk right after this. Eso let's open up this computer and see what's inside. So the first port off the hardware is the mother board mother board. It's where all the little pieces, all the circuits and memory and CPU and all the circuits are residing. It has ramped, which is random access memory. In regular term. We call it memory. When you go by a computer, you will look for a memory because memory is something that holds your information temporarily while you opening up a program. Then you have CPU CP. You just works like a human brain. It does the computation. It does the calculation for you, and then you have a chip set which also sits on top off the mother board. Then you have a hard drive inside off. Ah, hardware, where you store all the information. It stays there even when you turn off your computer and you have a fan. The fan. The purpose of the fan and the hardware is to keep all those little devices inside of your Harvard to keep it cool. 8. Examples of hardware: Now let's take examples off. What are the different samples of the computers we have? We have personal computers. Of course, those personal computers are could be the tower computer. Or it could be a flat computer. It could be a laptop. Then we have servers. Servers are the one that are primarily used in the enterprise level environment, where the companies use them in their data centers and they are most like their rack mounted server. Then you have tablets. Now you see a lot of people, especially a lot of companies, are using tablets to do their inventory or even the contractors. They have a tablets in their hand. Even now it is. Kids have those tablets and they're working the playing different games, then smartphones. And of course, this is something that everybody knows and everybody has Nowadays. Smartphone is also a piece of hardware, and it has, ah, different operating system runs on a depending on which company the smartphone belongs to. And then you have the app on them and you play with the different APS. You open up a different maps, so basically these are the different examples. Besides thes, there are other computer peripherals that also count as, Ah, hardware. And those are, ah, like keyboard, a mouse, external hard drive or your headphones or your mike, anything that attaches to your computer. Also, of course, the printer, the printer that is attaches to your computer, and it's as equipment that is external to it. When a computer sends a command to print something, the printed gets that job and a print salchow paper, so basically all of the's are example off the computers. 9. Hardware Companies: computer hardware companies. Hair. I will tell you about the company's or the manufacturers whom make hardware. And if you want to get into hardware jobs, you should know everything about them. So let's take a look at the companies and a list I have. The 1st 1 in my list is the IBM, who was one of the biggest giants who started manufacturing Computer Harbor back in the days. Nowadays, IBM primarily deals with enterprise level hardware, the 2nd 1 in the list I have. Still, Dell is now owned by E. M. C. They make Computer PP's in most laptops, and nowadays they also have taken a large sheer at the enterprise level server and storage as well. The good thing about the Dell is they run pretty much all the operating system except the MAC, which is owned by Apple, and the Solaris operating system, which is owned by Son. Then we have, um, and the list discourse. Apple, Apple manufacturer their own hardware, and they run their own operating system on their hard work. You cannot run Windows or Solaris are red hat operating system, where any of the kind off limits offering system on top off Apple hardware. Next one in the list is son. The Sun is owned by Oracle. Just like Apple, they make their own hardware as well as their run their own operating system, which is Solaris next one in the list. This Cisco. Cisco is a major manufacturer who builds routers, switches, firewalls, and nowadays they're getting into computer industry. Cisco is also making rack mounted servers as well as played servers next. His HP, which is also known as he Will Packard um HP and Compaq in 2001 has one of the biggest merger, off about $25 billion. Now they deal with PC industry as well as enterprise level servers. The remaining off the manufacturers are Samsung, Toshiba, Intel, the novel, Sony and many other companies and many other brands. Also in the proprietary appliances. Those other appliances are the ones where manufacturers build their own hardware and saw their own operating system and then customize the applications with the operating system. I also wanted to core the PC market sheer as it was in 2017 the worldwide traditional PC shipment quarter 1 2017 There were total shipment of 60 million personal computers, and the company who owned the biggest year was Hewlett Packard, followed by Lenovo, Dell, Apple, Acer and many of the companies. 10. Hardware Jobs: computer hardware jobs here we will co are all the different type of jobs that are being offered under this field. The hardware field. So if you have decided that this is the right field for you, then you definitely to know what other titles that you need to search for. Let's look at them one by one. And what exactly they do? Okay, The 1st 1 we have is a computer and information research scientist. These are the people who actually spent a lot of time doing the research to find out what makes the perfect computer. What kind of ramble kind of CPU, what kind of hard drive combined together that will make it work. Then we have electrical engineers. These people are the one who actually study engineering in electrical and that they are the one who are putting the computer together. They are the one who's building circuits, testing those circuits. You go find these jobs. If you have electrical engineering job. I'm sorry. Electrical engineering degree. You get these jobs and the companies have eat co word in the last light. Next one of you have is the programmers. Programmers are the people who know programming language such as C C plus plus and many of the languages that do need to put into the computer bio system or boot system when the first time computer boots up. These are the people who actually work in the company's ad assembly line. Putting together the computers, the computer rolls on assembly belt. They put the computer parts depending on which position they are on, then the computer technicians that the computer technicians and the Harvard technicians are pretty much the same role. What they do, they actually fix laptops, hardware or any servers. If your computer is down, they'll come in and fix the computer. If your keyboard is broken, if you're my computer crashed, the other one will fix it. You could also call many technicians, for example. Best buy. They have the G quick scored. Those people are the computer technicians or harbor technicians. They will come and fix it. Now I t help. Dusk. The I t helped us is the job that you will find at enterprise level. You get into company. Every company has a I T help desk, you provide support and they have 24 hour support. Your support, depending on which support shift you will get, you will get the calls from the customers who will ask you to help fix issue. And it could be any issue related to the hardware. Once we know a few examples, and you will really know why it is so important to have an operating system for ah hardware Windows. Now, most of few should know what Windows is. When you turn on your laptop, you will see Microsoft Windows, and that is the operating system that is a piece off software that is installed on your hardware. This operating system again tells your hardware what to do. It sends the commands to all the other pieces of the hardware, and it makes them work together. Then we have Mac. Mac is another operating system, and it is by Apple. Most of the Mac devices are runs on the on the apple hardware. As I mentioned earlier in the hardware at the harbor level, that you can not run any other operating system on the Mac hardware on the Apple hardware then another example of offering system is Lennox. Now Lennox has many, many flavors, and Lennox is the most common one that is used nowadays. At the enterprise level, many companies used Lennox as their primary operating system to run their applications. Why do they use Lennox over windows. I'm sure you will find a lot of articles online if you look it up. But all I could tell you all I could summarize is Lennox is a lot faster and it does not have gooey Go is a graphical user interface I should not say does not have gooey people who do need Kui They could get gooey in Lenox but then it defeats the purpose. If someone who needs a gooey they will go with Windows or Mac So having no graphical into face makes Lennox Obering system a lot faster. Then we have UNIX eugenics mostly run by Solaris, which is owned by Oracle BST, hp wicks And there are many different flavours of UNIX. UNIX was the first operating system that came out followed by Lennox. Now Lennox came out off the UNIX. It has pretty much a lot of same commands that is still being used and Lennox than E Essex . I Yes, x I is another operating system that is used by VM Ware via where is a company that has the operating system called OS X? I now do you want you installed this E s X i Obering system on your hardware, Then you could have many virtualized machine on the same hardware, meaning you could earn many different operating system on one single piece of hardware. So these are the basic examples off operating system, and I'm sure you have read and heard a lot about them. My favorite one is Lennox, because Lennox has a lot, a lot of folks flexibility as compared to many other, and it's open source. You could make changes to it if you want, then an example of what brings us some in terms off gadgets we have iPhone or iPad. These gadgets run an operating system called IOS. IOS is operating system is owned and manufacturing bills by Apple same way Samsung. Many Samsung Phone has an operating system that is called Android. We are covering everything about this system software and that system software is the operating system. If you wanted to get into the operating system jobs, you should know one of thes opening system that I have just listed. Then on top Off systems offer you see a layer off application software application software and systems software. What's the difference? I'll tell you that at the at the application lesson. But for now, think of this way you turn on your computer, the operating system boots up. Now you have the operating system running and you have your hardware running. But now what's the purpose of this computer? The only reason you turn on this computer is because you wanted to use some kind of applications on it. And what are those applications? Toe list? A few. One of the example off applications is, ah, Web browser. Perhaps you want to open up a browser. You want to check your email or search the Internet. Another one. You want to use a calculator going to the calendar on a paint. You won't open your paint application. So there are many tons of tons off applications that set on top off offering system. And that's the primary reason we all use computers. If you only have a hardware and you only have the operating system, that's there's still no need for computers if it does not fulfill our requirement and our requirements are always being fulfilled by those applications. Then let's look at this picture. Where I have at the bottom is the hardware hardware is the one that talks to the operating system. Operating system, gets this instructions for the applications and applications it was again. It's example that, say, Microsoft Word application is running now. Who is controlling that application? Who is typing the words in that application? And that is this user that is you. You type in into the word document or excel document or any no pad or any other document that you have depending on the operating system. One of them is a party that the one is a Tomcat. Then you have infrastructure engineers, infrastructure engineers are all in all there. The one who actually deal with many different components off. I t not just operating system, but they also deal with somewhat off hardware the deal with the operating system. They deal with someone of applications somewhat database and many that they actually touched many different technologies. Then you have a solution. Engineers solution. Engineers and architects are the one who actually designed put on a blue blueprint and put it together. How many servers do we need to build this entire data centers? How many servers are harmony? Storage? How? Maney networking devices. We need to complete this entire data center. Those are the people who actually deals with blue print off your infrastructure, Dev Ops Engineers now Dev Offs. Engineers are actually the title or the role that has been recently created. Um, I I should say, not more than 2 to 5 years ago. This is actually the combination off people who work with the operating system as well as who actually Ah, very fluent in programming languages. So not only they actually managed infrastructure managed assistance. They also want someone who could, right Did the codes. Who could actually know? Some languages in many languages are, like perhaps Joe R. C C plus plus and many of the languages which I will cover in the later lecture. So these are the people who are actually develops engineers. They definitely make a lot of money And if this is something that you want to get in, you always have to start your path from helped us to operating system engineer, infrastructure engineer. Get into more knowledge off the programming languages and to the develops engineer. Then we have field engineers. These are the people who actually work for the companys like red hot HP and all those big companies. And what they do is they actually go out on a field trip to a customer site for clients I to fix their computers. They there are also fixing the opening system as well as their hardware. These fetal engineers are the one. Let's say if they are from red hat, there's gonna they're gonna come on side and live there, issued, they're going to spend. They're going to spend some time to troubleshoot the issues with you. So if you are into traveling, if you are into working outside, you are not the person who wants to sit on your desk. Then this is the right job. Were you but again for this type of job, you do need to know the operating system and rich offering system that I have already covered that in my previous slide. Those are the list of operating system that you guys should pick and go over it then Product engineers Product engineers, of course, are very much similar to field engineers. However. Product engineers Onley deals specifically to one product. So if let's say, Red Hat has a product, a new product called, um virtualization, their new organization technology or their satellite technology or any product they actually have people who actually deal specifically in that technology. So when they sell those technologies out to the people to the consumers of the clients, then these product engineers are the one who actually traveled with the sales guys to actually help them sell that product and tell them about the technology. Then you have the principal engineer. Pretty much principal engineer's job is the same assistance engineer, but a lot more responsibility. Sometimes principal engineers are also the ones who have some type of lead. They also matter some system administrators. Then you have platform engineers. Platform engineers are Pacific Toe one platform. They If if a company has multiple operating system environment, most likely they're going to deal with one platform or somewhat. The most two operating systems then we have back and and data center engineers who are actually sitting at the data center or who often travel to the data center every time there's an issue off course. If there's issue day and you you will call your your Wender, they will charge a lot of money, or you might have to have a contract with them. But with the back on a data center engineer, they are most likely close to the data center will travel. There are all the time who are responsible for racking and stacking. The silver is building the servers, troubleshooting the systems. Then I have the implementation consultants. I will focus on the consultant part here because many of the job will most likely that you will be getting into will be the consulting jobs. What it means that you might not get into the full time job right right out the door. You will have to spend some time consulting. And I tell you, in a kid, you not if you will get into the consulting job, you will learn a lot because in consulting jobs you have to actually fulfill a task at a Pacific time at a Pacific rate. So when you have that kind of pressure, you learn a lot. And also, if you are not a person who I want to work for a boss, you want war for yourself. The consulting job is for you. There are advantages and disadvantages of consulting one as you don't get the benefits. For example, medicals and health insurers, whereas on the regular full time job on the W two jobs, you get all those benefits. But at the same time you have a boss you have to report to. So anyway, guys, this is the list off, um, job titles that I have covered under operating systems. Again, offering system is the layer is an operating systems, the software that runs on top off the computer. If you like that, piece that layer, and that's where you want to get your hands on. This is where you should spend your time and and how do you gonna get your spend time? And let's say, even if you are in Judah, me or any other website that our educational and they are teaching you courses, all you have to do is go in and put it in. Let's say Red Hat Administration or Windows Operating System administration or Mac administration. Our Mac operating system, you're gonna find tons and tons, of course, is out there That will help you understand those operating system. And, as you learned those offering system as you spend more time in it, I will encourage you to go do jobs for people, even internships, or learn a lot of body from other people who already in that field who could help you get into that field. 14. OS Tools and Jobs: here. I want to talk about the openings, tools and jobs. Now, of course, there are many tools that are Pacific Lee designed for certain tasks of it in the operating system. And those tools are very huge. And their dad actually makes other jobs to have dedicated jobs for only for those tools. Let's look at them are some off them. Like Microsoft Active Directory. This is the kind of tools that deals with the users and groups. Domain name system, Microsoft Exchange system. Red hats are like Solaris jumpstart Microsoft Windows servers, Update services. These are the tools sometimes are required to have when you have, and you're looking for an operating system jobs. But sometimes some companies are looking for dedicated people into the who have specialization in that tools. So you could off course, get into Pacific jobs who require only that type of expertise. And what type of job tiles you're going to get into is, let's say, active directory administrator or DNS administrator or the name off the tour, which over the tools that you're spending your time and and followed by the administrator or the engineer, this is one off the also easiest way to get into I t. Because if you don't want to spend a lot of time learning too much about operating system or too much about hardware, because it's the last field and you just want to pick one Pacific piece off off a technology, you could pick that one of those always tools and learn about it. However, there are pros and cons pros that you will be more Pacific toe one field and it's easier to learn. And a faster to learn con is that you're gonna have lot less jobs. Your opportunities is gonna come down. 15. What is Application: applications and software. In this lesson, I will cover the difference between the application and software how those applications are built. What are the different type of languages that are used to build those applications? One of the different tools? And what are the job titles as correspond to those those tasks? Oh, sure, those programming languages. And, of course, what are the different software that's already been built and that many, many people, many big companies are working on them. So let's start with the difference between application and software While operating system . The piece of Riker Word earlier is basically just a software. It is not an application, but it is still a software because it is written in C C plus plus over a chair with language people prefer, whereas an application is also a software as well. But it runs on top, often operating system. So most of the time and application is when you start an operating system, you start your computer, the operating system comes up, and that's when you start your application. Now, what is the importance? Off application application is very important for any user, because when you turn on the computer you only turning on the computer because you want to use an application. What other examples Off PC applications. Some of them are Microsoft Office, which you should be using or been using for a while. And those are Excel Word, PowerPoint. Some of them are basically games pain calculator, an Internet Explorer, which is a Web browser, or Firefox, whichever you prefer. And some of the smartphone APs that use use on every day basis, then some off the example off enterprise level or server level applications are like E r. P enterprise resource planning, customer relations manager. Server applications like Active Directory Database, D, N S and T P. All of those tools or Softwares, are actually built on top of an operating system. An example. On the right side, you'll see like Adobe into an explorer. Chrome Firefox. Microsoft Outlook. All these are examples off PC applications and that phone applications. We have ton and ton off phone applications they've used on everyday life 16. Programming Languauges: Now let's look at the software building tools or languages that most of the programmers and developers use every day to build those applications. They're huge list off languages, but the ones that most prominent ones are. The ones listed here will go where it one by one, So the 1st 1 is C C plus plus or C Sharp. This is the object oriented programming languages. Most of the people use this to build an operating system, so basically, when you have a computer, you have a hardware. That's what it was back in the days, and you just have, um, if you remember, we just had a DOS or see prompting. You were type different things to communicate to the database. Sorry to the hardware, but now, um, we have such ease off operating systems that we could easily use a mouse or use a little bit of programming language to run those offering systems that we have. GSP. That's another application. Microsoft C visual Basic net PHP shell scripting, bash python, PERL, etcetera. These are also some off the shell scripting that you use to create a small programs or small tiny applications. There runs on top off your operating system. HTML html is mostly used for Web based applications. So if you're building a website as used, this is the first up language that you should know off Java Java script. These are the languages that is used mostly also now on HTML based pages on the Web sites. Ruby on rails. S p s p dot net node dot Js reactor gs rabbit, MQ service bus Lennox Rust AP I development core data or court animation. So everyone here is a list of all the major languages that are out there that people used to build Softwares and different applications. Remember, if you want to get a job in programming or you want you want to be a developer or programmer, you have to pick languages from this list. If you want to focus more on the websites, you would have to pick HTML or Gela. If you have to b'more into application build, which are the standalone applications or you want building operating system, then you should be more focused on C C plus plus same way if you are more focused on just creating um on in house tools for a company than you need to know the shell programming like Bash Python. So again, if you are one of the person who wants to get into the programming and technology and computer languages, these are the basic ones you should know. And you should also look for these type, Of course, is if you wanna pick any of these categories. 17. Software Building Jobs: now here we will talk about actually the software and application building jobs and the actual title of those jobs. So the 1st 1 is the developer. The developer is the one that who was always busy developing something, whether it's an application, a bigger software, a little tiny tool or in a tiny application for your phone. If you look up the developer job title in any search engine, any job searching and you will find many different jobs related to developer. But a developer is not limited to one language developer could be C++ developer or Java developer HTML developer. So sometimes you have to be Pacific. Then you have programmer So programmer developer they're all interchangeable terms that are used for job titles who actually work in building software's software engineers. Actually, those are the people who go one step further, who have done a lot of experience in development and programming will become an engineer who designed the entire application. I was gonna work which other application it's gonna talk to, or the different components that are involved in that building. That application Web engineer. Now this is again more Pacific to the Web development. If you want to build on on online? Um, retail shop. Then you do need to know you didn't do need to learn something about Web devil. Then you have Deb off. Some engineer that develops engineer is one off the job titles that actually combine someone who has been a system administrator, meaning who dealt with a lot with operating system and hardware, as well as the programming language application developer. Again, it is very close to what we talked about on a developer and programmer. It might be something specific to certain applications and language developer and the language developer is someone that who specifically accompanies specifically looking for C plus plus develop or Java developer, a ruby on rails developer. So if you pick again, if you pick one of those technology that we talked about in the last slide, then you are going in one direction and you will find many jobs that are Pacific to one language in the development of programming area, you're You don't need to know all those different languages all you have to pick one. You could pick one from any off the platforms that provide training on language courses on building applications, and then you could decide which one is best for you 18. Application User Jobs: okay, here, we gonna talk about actually, those people who are the users off that after applications that are built by developers? So let's take example off, Let's and Microsoft would now maybe someone maybe a company whose only looking for someone who is very, very proficient in Microsoft Word They don't really care if they if you have experience off building Microsoft Word or not, they just wanted to know you are. You have a very extensive experience in Microsoft Word. So there are applications that are out there has been built and they're looking someone who who specific it was a specific spur teas in that application or software. So let's look at them. Oh, here's a list of application tools. First of all, so application tools are automated billing system payment processing, email, marketing system, content management calls, center relationship, customer relationship management, enterprise resource planning, business, intelligent HR management, enterprise, language and enterprise application integration and price surge messaging and collaboration system and data entry since system. So all those are different technologies that are built four the business. So let's say, if you in your HR department, maybe you need a tool to do um to do the payroll management. So there are tools that, like that, that are already built. And companies have invested a ton of money and a ton of ours tough, ah, workforce to build a tool for you. So, as an example of HR management, you could think off like a PeopleSoft People's Off is a software and application that you could buy from those third party people. And you could run in your business environment to manage your HR activities. Some off them or Microsoft office. E r P Systems S A P Systems people soft Cognos That's a reporting for sentries. So these are a few examples off those major applications. There are a lot of people who only focus on these applications. They learned these software. How does use them not to develop them, but how to use them. And these are very complicated applications. This require a lot of work, and that's why the companies are looking for people who on Lee how work on the's application and who could. I spent most of the time working on the specific area, and those type of jobs are, of course, like Microsoft engineer or administrator. PeopleSoft architect Cognos architect, forcing trees analyst as the P analyst. So any off those major applications if you have followed by the engineer administrators. 19. What is Networking: networking. Okay, so here we're gonna talk about what Networking is how it works. What are the different companies who actually deal with networking? Who build devices, who bills, switches and routers? What are the different technologies that is involved? And in those devices? And then, of course, the jobs. What are the job titles? Um, how those job titles are related to the technology. So let's look at the the definition, which I actually have from Wikipedia. So just I'm just gonna quickly read it. A computer network or data network is a digital telecommunication network, which allows nodes to share, resource is and computer networks, network computing devices exchange data with each other's using a data link. The connection between nodes are established using either cable media or wireless media. So that's a simple definition that I have from Wikipedia. So my definition is is basically physical or wireless connection between computers. That's what it is. So if you have one computer and you wanted to connect to another computer, you run cable from once computer to another. If you have multiple computers, you attach it to the hub or switch, and then you create networking. It's an example, off networking cables that you'll see the bottom. It's just pretty much cat 45 Cat five cable and each color in Cat five. Cable represents and always saw layer. So on the right side, you'll see it's actually the wireless connection. That's how did the second way of connecting computers together? 20. Network Companies: All right, let's go a word. The network companies who actually deal with the network devices will build network searches, routers, hubs and many of the different devices. The companies are Cisco, one of the top companies who actually have the most one of the most high shear in the market. At Cisco, they're the one who actually build switches ravers at many, many different devices for network components to come toe work, come and work together. Then you have Siskel firewalls. Now fire was allow you to send traffic outside and bring the traffic inside to your computer securely. Then you have juniper. Then you have what way arrester we and where now we, um, where is a virtualization technology which has introduced the network layer, which is a virtualized network layer on their systems riverbed and the load balancer five. Now, if you something, if you want to get into the networking job that please remember, networking job also requires a lot off, um, command line expertise, because when you go log into one of the networking devices, you should know command line. So if you don't want to get into command line and you think that's a lot, and you probably want to stick with, like, windows type of environment where you have a gooey and you could drag and drop and you could see actually how things are moving. But let me tell you one thing, the easier it is, the less jobs out there and the less money you're gonna make. If you know ah lot about a computer command line and you want to get into these type of things, then there are many technology that you could get in, like Lennox Solaris or networking. 21. Network Jobs: New York jobs. Let's see the list of network jobs one by one with his job titles, network administrator said. That's a basic job that you will get into if you want to choose the path of networking. Now, of course, Um, many companies do require CCN a ah, which is a basic certification or basic course and not working jobs. And there are also many other networking job courses. Now, of course, is that you could look into you could simply type network courses, either on Google or any off the search engine, and you'll find tons and tons of courses that are offered by many different companies of many different institutions. Educational institutions. Then you have no work engineer again. Network engineer is his deals with mostly on the designing off the network, whereas Administrator deals with installation, racking and stacking on network device ing and troubleshooting off the network issues. Engineers do that, too, but their arm or geared toward building new environment or architect in the new environment , then security engineer um, sometimes ah, a lot of companies divide uhm network jobs into two different categories. One into security and one into network. But many times um, a network administrator. Engineers. Ah, where's the same half for security and as well as network. But there are many jobs out there. Will want specifically for cybersecurity engineers, network architect. Very similar to never engineers and again they designed. They work with the blueprint off the network, if you will. If you are building a new data center and you're building from scratch and the planning and working with other other departments working with the project managers, all those type of work are done by number. Car detects I t. Security analyst. Again, it is also very close to the security and near and firewall administrator, and this person pretty much deals with firewalls. Now there are many different technologies, many different companies who build firewalls. The fire was, are there to type of firewalls one as the hardware appliance that has that you could install in your environment and has a software install it that actually works as a firewall for you. And also there are fire walls that are pre configured off comes with you operating system that you could enable or disable or work on it as example. If you have a Windows PC, will always go and type in the surgeon's firewall, and you see the firewall page comes up. So that's the type of example that's a tool that is pre built within the operating system that allows you to manage the traffic that's coming in or going out within your laptop over than your server. So again, these are the jobs that we have a list of jobs there many jobs out there, of course, that arm or Pacific to the product, but again, and networking is something if you want to get and you do, why to start off, like or taking the CCNET course. And there are many different other courses. And of course, experience would be the best thing to start off it. But again, remember, guys experience, I understand. Sometimes people don't have experience. But if you set up a lab in your environment and you work on the networking devices, you could also count the number of followers you have spent in your lab, put together that lab and that you could put it in your resume 22. What is Security: security. In this lesson, we will cover what security is, how it works. What are the different companies that who deal with security and what are the different technologies? And, of course, what are the different job tiles, or what are the different jobs off security and whether it's the right fit for you? Computer Security, also known as cyber Security or I T Security is the protection off computer systems from the theft and damage off their hardware, software or information, as well as from disruption or misdirection off the services they provide. Okay, and this definition is from Wikipedia. Information is the most important asset in this era. Therefore, securing that information is critical from personal to large organization. Now, what are the different ways to protect that information? Or that data that is stored in your operating system? Off course? Guys, you should remember this when you have a breach of security in your environment, sometimes it affects your application. There runs again on top off your operating system. Sometimes it affects your operating system, and then sometimes it affects directly your hardware, meaning it gets to your CPU, gets your memory. You ever have a memory leak. So they're different ways the hackers could get into your environment and get two different components off your environment. So what other ways to protect that information? While there are anti virus Softwares out there, there are fire walls out there that we discussed previously, and those fire was, ah, hardware or software based. And there are many security appliances nowadays that you could have in your environment. And, of course, those security jobs are mostly managed by the networking folks or in some companies. Or, I would say, in very large companies, and larger organization did tend to have a separate entity for every job or every component . 23. Security Technology: Let's look at the security technologies or the companies who are actually investing a lot off hours, a lot of time building and securing your environment. The 1st 1 is McAfee. You probably have heard this many time, then you most likely you have that in your PC as well. So McAfee allows you to actually secure your laptop computer or the server from malware or viruses. Another one is the firewall that we discuss previously. The firewall actually allows you to pick which traffic that you want to send out and which traffic inbound traffic that you're gonna allow. So let's say, if you are going to a website and you wanted to go to a regular website and it does not run on a different port, every I P has a different ports, so you could actually enable those ports at the firewall level. The Norton anti Virus. That's another company and technology that are out there, that wars that works at the enterprise level as well as PC level. And then there's another one. Rats and wear 24. Security Jobs: security jobs. What are those jobs that are the deal? Would securities job titles are for those jobs? Network administrator And again, you probably thinking that network is in the same guy will be working with Network. Yes, as I said previously, Ah, and many companies there do require you to actually spend time on the networking side as well as on the security side. Just like a help desk technician or a system administrator. They do require you to work on the operating system as well as on the hardware and wise worser. If if it's a helpless technician and he's working on the hardware side, he does need to know a little bit about operating system. Then you have no work engineer security engineer, not this guy's Pacific to the security. No work architect. I t security analyst. Now, these are the people, most likely those people who are actually hired by the companies, or they are coming from 1/3 party who will come in and perform audit in your environment. They come in, they run their analysis against your I T infrastructure, and they find they will find any loopholes, any, um, open ended firewalls or if they are any open sockets that are out there that are not used, so they will come in and they will make sure that you adhere to all the rules of security rules. Or sometimes they're also known as I t auditors. Then you have a firewall, administrators and cybersecurity specialist. Now this is someone are sometimes also referred to as cybersecurity hacker or someone who actually have work with on the hacking environment. And now they want that person to come in and base and based on his or her experience, apply that experience in their environment to stop the environment from being hacked. If you want to get into security job, um, the companies that I talked about previously, you should look into the courses off those companies that they are offering. Find out what kind of courses they're offering. Find out, look for these titles and in the job search and see how many jobs are out there and whether this job is actually a good fit for you. Are you gonna be dealing with security all the time? If there's a threat and if there's a breach, are you ready to wake up in the middle of the night and fixing the issue whether it takes a day or two days. Well, it all depends of you what you want to dio. But these are the things that associated with the security jobs. 25. How Information Flow: okay. We have talked about the hardware, the operating system applications, networking, security. Let's talk about how having all them together, how that information flows, how in all these i t components work together and then how information flows from one component to another. So here you, that's where you are. You are the users, and you are using some kind of application. So let's say you're using an application. Microsoft Excel. You have punched in some numbers you have added some data to Would you save the file? And then you are telling the operating system Sorry, you're telling the operating system to save the file. Once the file is saved, you could turn off the computer, and it could actually save in the hard drive. So every time you turn on the computer, that file will still be Safed. Now, you could open up another application like, um Firefox Web browser, any kind, and then send the file to someone else. How over the network. So if your computer has to be connected to the network and our personal home computer environments, we usually have a modem at home that is connected to our Internet provider. So we send that our computer sends information through that network or to the Internet. To let's say, if you want to send it to your friend or someone, then eventually your friend or your boss will have that document and then, of course, eventually comes back to you. So all that workflow, all that information that is flowing it is protected through security at every layer, meaning there is a security at the application layer operating systems hardware network. In all these components, there are some type of security that's been enabled, but it is hard were related or whether it is application or software late. 26. Enterprise Level Components: All right, let's talk about enterprise level I t. Components. So all the confidence that we have talked about are the basic and the primary requirement off any off the I T infrastructure. Now we will look into the enterprise level compliments that are being used at the company at enterprise level, and those are storage now what that storage means. Actually, you do have storage hard ride that that comes with your computer. But at a bigger companies, they use external storage, and those storage are huge big stories. Shelves combined with thousands off desks, and they have raid configuration to it. That makes the storage, and that makes a completely separate group of people who actually managed them. Then you have database on databases, a structured way off putting information together, and we'll talk about that later, and you have virtualization. I understand that actualization is something is not heavily used. A personal level. You do have ah, lot of people I know that use Oracle Worship Box, which allows them to run multiple operating system under laptop, which is amazing, I would say, but at enterprise level, the virtualization has to be at the enterprise technology level, where you have to actually pay for it. You have to license it and we'll talk about that virtualization technology later. And then we have a cloud you probably had have heard nowadays. A lot of cloud and we will cover the cloud. And of course, all these components, the meaning off them, how they work and what other different jobs and whether Jews, those jobs, the right fit for you will cover in the later slights. 27. What is Storage: the first enterprise level component is the storage. Now, what is a storage? Basically, a storage is something you save in your hard drive for a long term, long period of time. Now, don't confuse storage with memory Now. Storage in your computer in your PC. It's the hard drive that's sitting inside of your computer. If you have a laptop, your problem, you open and you will see a very tiny disk there. If you have a regular death stop, you could open it and you will see a bigger disc size now at enterprise level. The reason they have to a storage external to your own computer external to the server is because what will happen if that computer crashes? Well, the one way is you could actually have a backup, and then you could have restore. But of course, that is sometimes, you know, very cumbersome and is time consuming. So what companies do they keep their data external to the computers that are actually running the applications and programs? Now what type off storages are out there? Well, of course, the the one, the 1st 1 is the local storage, which is again, as I mentioned it is inside of your computer or your laptop. Then you have external storage, which is a USB attached on most of time. Those are the pen drives USB drive are sometimes SD cords or any of those stories that you attach us to it. Now, if you come to the enterprise level, you have never catastrophe Ridge, also called Nass. Every time there is a network attached storage, it means any storage that is being presented to the operating system or the network. A storage on the nads would have some kind of I P address that is attached to a bunch of disc's spinning together that has in front of it. There's a NFS server running, and it is giving you the storage to your opening system, too attached to it. Then you have fiber challenge storage, the fiber shall you probably have heard of an optic fibre optic, which is a lot faster now. The fiber optic attach is to your computer, and it will show up as just if it is a local storage to your system. And of course, the speed is a lot faster, and then you could have a lot of different configuration on the story side to access that storage over the fibre channel, Then you have storage configuration. Now, what are the different type of storage configuration? And there are main three main configuration that I'm gonna go over. There are many of them, but the primary wants a rate of zero. Raid one and rate five. So what does that mean? Let me cover that briefly. The rate zero is something. Let's say you have two discs in your computer. One is 100 Gig and other one is 100. Gig. You could actually combine them to make one big storage off 200 gigabytes. That becomes rate zero configuration. Now, of course, this type of configuration does not have backup, because if one of the disc goes down or crashes, you lose data that is stored on that disk. So that's where you have rate one. So rate one what it does. It allows you to mirror the one desk to another. So if you have one disc of 100 gigabyte and the other disco 100 gigabyte, you will have you still have the space of 100 gigabyte because the one the disc one is mirroring its data to disk too, so that is raid one. Then you have raid five. Raid five is a combination off rate zero and one, meaning you could have 10 disc together where one of the disk is doing the work off writing the parody. Which data is going where on which desk and your 10 disco 100 gig, which is one terabyte of space, could be up to, Let's say, 900 gig. It will give you the one big volume of nine her gig and some authored. This space has been used to do the calculation, so that's pretty much their rate, as if you want to learn more about it, I strongly encourage you to go and, um, look it up or learn more about rate configuration. So that's why a lot of companies using used to separate storage. And they do have dedicated people on site sitting on Lee working with the storage database . Guys are working with the storage team to ask more storage, and then the storage team are every day carving out new Walliams new discs, adding new desk or, if there's a dis failure, you'll be working with the disk configuration troubleshooting 28. Storage Companies: storage companies. Now what are those companies who actually build the disks or those shelves that there has bunch of disk spinning together? C is one of the biggest shareholder who has the one of the biggest market share in the storage industry. They have their own hardware, and they have their own software to manage the storage. Oftentimes you to have storage from one company, and then you use 1/3 party software to manage that storage. You need to pick one of these companies and their technology to learn about storage. If you wanted to spend time, let's say learning E. M. C. And now who's uses? Who uses those database are the people who managed the database? And those database people are known as database administrators, which will cover in the next section? Oracle Oracle is also one of the biggest enterprise level database server. Informix, which is by IBM, did of his to begin IBM s, a P, Sybase Post GREss SQL Amazon, Simple database, s a P Hana Mongo database service and data wear. Now, these are the list of all the databases in all the companies. Now, the good news about these, it appears again. You don't need to know two or three database to get a job. You just need to spend your time and pick one database technology that you see in this list pick a course or look for the course and these technologies. And if you if you were the kind of person who wants to who wants to have his job around managing the database and these are the jobs for you and what are those Softwares and those do you just need to learn the software? And of course, if you want to spend time, you could always look into the courses that teaches you how that you could learn these data business technologies. 33. What is Virtualization: virtualization and cloud technologies. In this lesson, we will work. We will learn what has virtualization and what is cloud technologies and what are the different companies who actually deal with and and build virtualization technologies. And also what are the different type of jobs that are out there and that and which ones are the right fit for you? Now let's start offered virtualization. What is worse, realization. Virtualization is a technology that transforms hardware and to software. It allows you to run multiple operating system as a virtual machines on a single computer. And, of course, if anything goes wrong, you don't have to worry about it. Let the third party worry about it. The cloud company worry about. 35. Virtualization and Cloud Companies: now here we will look at the virtualization and cloud companies. What are those major companies who actually deal and build with virtualization technology? The 1st 1 we have in the list is VM Ware now the and where is one off the many big companies that actually started off with virtualization technology? So let's look at the companies and jobs. 36. Virtualization Jobs: here, we're gonna have a list of all the jobs that are Pacific to the virtualization and cloud technologies. And ah, lot of those people are in demand nowadays because companies are looking for people who could actually help them migrate their systems to the virtualized cloud. Then we have, um we're cloud now, of course, just like Amazon has its cloud Vienna, where also has its cloud technology. Then, of course, we have azure, which is also a cloud technology from Microsoft. 37. IT Management Jobs: So now, after looking at all the jobs related to the I t components, I wanted to go over What are the management related jobs that are in I t Perhaps you are already in I t. And you want to advance your career. Of course, the the way you could advance your career is by learning something new. Or you could spend and work really hard and spend a lot of time with in your current job and go step up to the letter to step up to the management letter. So let's look at some off the management jobs that are out there with an I T. Well, the 1st 1 is the lead. Once you have been working in any roll off, I t in any components after certain time, depending how you deal with people, your manager or your director will like you to lead the group and in, in that scenario, what you would be doing as you're probably gonna have a bunch of people under you. But they will not directly reported to you. Meaning you're not probably not gonna be doing the performance performance review you're not gonna be doing, um, you know gonna be approving their vacation or deciding their bonus. But you will tell them what to do in terms off building the systems or ah, working on the technology. So that is type of the lead role ritual, which will be the first step that will get you to the management letter. Then, of course, we have supervisors. Supervisors are the one who have, ah group of people that they manage. Of course, the manager manager is the one that managed entire team. It could be, um, a team off systems or storage, or they they will be managing the group within the I T department. And as I said, there are many groups in I t department, and those groups are differentiated by looking at the components. You will have a storage group and networking group, a security group, a Windows group or Lennox groups. All those groups are different, so there will be a one manager for each group, so you could have a systems manager. You could have a storage manager then the director, not director, is the one who actually manages the entire department, meaning they will be managing not only one Pacific I t field they will be managing networking. They will be managing database storage systems. All those I t companies we talked about, they most likely will be under one director. Then we have the Weiss president who will be managing not Onley one department, but several other departments. And of course, you know about the C, T o and C I O 38. Other IT Jobs: Of course, there are many, many other jobs in I T. And many different titles. They're revolves around the same I T Jobs said. Some of them that I will co work that our Pacific to other areas off I t. So let's look at them one by one. The 1st 1 we have the project manager. The project manager is something who spend most off his or her time in meetings and the person who would ceiling with different department and who will be taking care off your project. It's an example. If you wanted to a build new system now building a new system is not not easy as bringing the server into your data center and install it. It's it's actually a combination of tasks. So first you would have to get in touch with installed people could install the servers in your data center or if if you if you are a storage guy and then you are dealing with the project manager related jobs than if you are bringing a new store, it's servers, new store shelves. In your environment, you have to talk to project manager who is going to be performing duties like a coordinator who will coordinate every aspect off the project. So this is also one of the good jobs that I would prefer who wants to get into, um, a lot of paperwork, a lot of meetings and, ah, a little less technical work. Then we have quality assurance and quality assurance is something that most of the people perform on a system on an application when it's built to test how it is built. Now there are a lot of many a lot of tools on quality assurance. If you look it up, you will find a lot of tools. Now many people have found many jobs just specifically in quality assurance field. Then you have technical writers if you are good and writing. And if you have written some books or many reports in college and you feel like, um, writing it's something your forte and you should go into this tell you that there are jobs in I t. That require technical skills, right? Because every time a a product is built or a softer is built, um, there is a requirement to create a manual. So the technical writers are the one who are involved in writing those manuals. Then you have technical trainers After writing the technical documentations. There's a need for technical trainers who could go out there and teach other people about the new product or if the product already exists and probably do good provider fresher, then your data center migration person who only deals with data center migration from one location to another project related consultant. What it means is there are consultant who only gonna work on the Pacific projects, and then they move on. They're not a full time employees. They work on Pacific projects and they move on technical account Manager. This type of job is mostly suitable for those people who have spent a few years in an administration work engineering work, and then they actually go to a company who actually provides services to their clients. As an example, I could tell you, Microsoft probably have a lot off Tam's technical account manager. What they do is they have a group off companies that the deal would if they have any, any issues, or if they want to buy a new product, they on Lee help those companies same way. If you are in a storage area. If you are in the database and you wanted to have a TAM and with Oracle, Arkle could provide you that person who could only deal with your issues, then presales product engineers thes are the type of people who actually go along with sales people to sell the product. They have a lot more information about a Pacific product. Sales managers, um, are someone who know a little about that technology they're selling. But they are there more expertise about sales, then monitoring tools. Administrators know there are tools that are out there that monitors your systems. So all the components that we talked about earlier those companies need to be monitored as well. What happened? If your database goes down, what happens if your systems or your network goes down? Then you need some kind of monitoring applications that will monitor your components. Some off those examples that I have listed here it's Blunk site scope. Find out what are the job requirements? Find out what are the job hours, whether it requires you to work overtime, whether requires you to work over the weekend. If that's something you don't want, then don't. Don't do it. Find out which job pays the most. Find out which job pays the least. There's so many different scenarios you could find out.
