1. 1. Introduction: hi and welcome to Fearless Photoshopped. That basics. My name is Lee and I'll be your instructor. This is my studio, and this is where I dio recording editing from the constants. So I really wanted to make this Siri's service Photoshopped. This is the first cost within the Siri's to help people who are being overwhelmed by how big photo shop is and all the options within it. I really want to help people get comfortable with the program and start to feel really creative and confident using the program, because it is a wonderful program for amateur photographers, professional photographers, anybody who wants to enhance their photographs. There's so many great options. And if you started slow and start with the basics and build up upon them, you'll all of sudden become really events phone, shop, user without even knowing it. So make sure to follow me on skill share so you know, when I post new classes on the planet whole, Siri's about getting a different shop and getting creative. I really want to encourage you to take your time. If you end up getting frustrated or something's going wrong, take a break. If you have a triumph within the class. Make sure you congratulate yourselves because it's hard to learn something new, and just taking the class is a great step in the right direction. So be nice to yourself. Celebrate when you do something really awesome and take a break if you're getting overwhelmed, because it is a lot to learn, so the things you'll need for this class are adobe phone shop. If you don't have it on your computer and first video, I give you a link on where to down that have to download that. You also mean some photographs at it. They can really be anything that you want. If you have digital photographs, I'll show you how to get them into photo shop. And if you have actual physical photographs, I will show you scan. So whatever working with you can use for this class, so just get your photos ready. Whatever form that you have them get comfortable. It's a coffee or tea or some water. Whatever you need to feel comfortable and enjoy it, really try to have fun with it. You're just building up your skills and getting creative in within the program. Photoshop Tour: Okay, so the first thing we need to do is get photo shop open if you already have it downloaded. Teoh computer, you come. If you're on a Mac, you come toe applications, find the Adobe Photoshopped folder and then you're opening up the APP. There's a lot of things with this folder, but you just want to open up the dot at program double click on it. And I already had my note that it might take a while to keep open. If you have windows, I created a pdf for this class and their place. You find that pdf is on the class page in skill share. So since I don't have this particular class that were in uploaded yet to the skill share site, this is another one of my classes and you scroll down to the your project section within the class and they'll be an attached file. And that attached file will be this. Pdf. So in this pdf, I have a lot of information and links these air, some links to my websites and different stuff. And this is opening Photoshopped. So if you haven't downloaded it yet, you download it from Adobe Creative cloud here is a link to instructions about how to don't download that from Adobe. And they have good instructions there, so that should help you. And then you open up Photoshopped the actual program that ends in dot app. If you're in Windows, you go to start menu. All APS are all programs and find the Adobe Photoshopped program and open it. Making a shortcut on your computer is a really good idea. So you don't have to find the program each time you want. Open it. So in a Mac, once you have the program open, you can right click on the icon and go toe options and check Keep in Doc. And that will just keep it in the stock to be available every time you open it. You can do that with any application. And in windows, you right, click on an empty space in the desktop and click on New After you right click. Make a short cut quick. I'm sure cut. And then you find the application of the list of applications. Highlight it and click OK, Another thing I want to show you in this. Pdf is the photo shop tour. So these air the basic terms we're going to be using throughout this class. The first is the menu bar, and that's the very top bar that has filed at it. Image all of these, then the next is the options bar. Now the options bar changes depending on what tool you're in. This is the toolbar over here. Every time I switch a tool, these options are going to change. So each tool has different options built into it. You can really customize what you're doing within Photoshopped. When there's a little triangle next to a tool, it means you can right click on it. And there's other tools within that tool, and you just click on another tool to have access to it. So that was the toolbar, and the options bar changes depending on which will your in. Then we have the panels, the panels air over here on the side, and they come in tab groups what we call Tabb group. So you have these little tabs that you can click on, and there's different panel options with within them. So this is what's called your workspace. So this is basically your workspace is basically what panels you have open how you have everything laid out, and you can come up here and go to the default workspace. But if you open up Photoshopped and for some reason it's really confusing and there's a lot going on near, like where all the things I'm used to working with you just come back up to window workspace and you can go to default. If you're looking at it and you're just seeing these little icons here, you just click on this. Arrows thes two arrows will collapse or expand. I like to keep them expanded. So what we're gonna be working on is mostly history. History is really the most important one that's gonna help you. If you make mistakes, you can go back in your history. Now you can close thes out by clicking on these lines, and you can close the whole tab group. Sometimes you might do that by accident, but do not worry because you can always get it back by coming up here and going to history . Whatever is checked in this window drop down is what's open. So if you lose something, you can go to window, check it and make sure it's open. You can also come back to your default workspace. If you don't want to look at this because you know you're not going to be using any color, you concludes it, come down to the bottom and close Tabb Group and then you can just have open whatever you know you're working on when you're first starting in Photoshopped. It's great to have a really clean work space because you won't get distracted by all this different stuff. So if you know you're not gonna we're not going to use channels. You can close your not closing the whole tab group. You're just closing that, and then you can just have no distractions. If this is how you want your workspace toe. Look, if you don't want to see any of these extra tabs, I can show you really quickly. If you just want history and layers or really all we're going to be working with you can keep it really simple. And you can create a new workspace. So you're not distracted and also you come toe workspace, new workspace, and you can name it very basic, very saved. And then when you come back up to work, space. It's here. So if you somehow get into some weird workspace where you're like, uh, where is everything I'm used Teoh yuk Unjust. Come back upto window workspace. Go back to your very basic workspace. So what I want to get you thinking about is that you really can't make mistakes. You can always go back. If you lose something in photo shop, you can always get it back with coming toe window. You can't really make mistakes. I know sometimes the program could see seem overwhelming, so I think it's good to just simplify. Focus on the basics. And as you get more and more comfortable with the program, you'll get more advanced in the panels you have open and the things you're working on. But just know you can always go back. You can always fix mistakes and mistakes actually help you learn how to use the program better, so mistakes are welcome and good 3. 3. Opening & Saving : Okay, so now we're gonna learn how to open the document you want to be working on in Photoshopped . So basically, just opening up Whatever photo you're working on in Photoshopped, if you have to scan something, we're going to go over that in a minute. But you can just open up anything that you have on your computer or just watch. Once we go over the skin, you can work on that. So when you get into Photoshop, you'll see this open screen and you compress open here. But you don't always have this open screaming. You might want to open something while you have another document open. So I think it's good to get in the habit of just going to file open now. There's a lot of keyboard shortcuts within Photoshopped, and that's what these symbols are here. And I think learning the keyboard shortcuts is great, but after you're really more comfortable with the program, so I'm not gonna focus on that too much. Now I'm just going to focus on showing you how the basics work, and as you get more advanced and comfortable with the program, then you can start learning they're shortcuts. So come to file open, find your image, your photo that you want to be working on. I have mine on my desktop. I keep my files pretty organized, and I recommend making lots of folders. When I'm teaching a class, I usually just have it on my desktop, so it's easy to grab, So I'm gonna click on this. This is the photo I want to use and press. So another way. So that's one way to open up a file in photo shots. Another way is drag and drop. So if you have it on your desktop or in a finder folder, you can just take the icon and drag it into the photo shop icon. Drop it in and it'll open up in photo shop. So those are the two ways I recommend practicing. Okay, so the very first thing I want you to get used to doing in photo shop is duplicating. This is making a copy of the image, and why this is important is one so that you always have the original image, your original photograph, and you have an unedited version of it. I think this is important because you never know when you want the original, and it's also important because if you make mistakes, you can always go back. And this gives you a greater sense of freedom with experimenting within the program because you know you'll always have the original to go back to and make another copy of. So the very first thing I want you to get in the habit of doing and Photoshopped is coming up to image and duplicate is click on duplicate. This dialog box is gonna pop up, and it's automatically gonna take the name of your file name of your document and ad copy after, and I usually just leave it. And if I need to rename it later, I can rename it. I'm gonna press, OK, and then it's gonna open up another tab. So these are two different document files, and I'm going to close out of the original one that just says Apple's rain and we're gonna work on the copy. So now the original photograph is closed off. I'm not touching it it all. It's always gonna stay as that original photograph, and we're going to experiment and edit the copy on Lee. This is really just an important habit to get used to, and I think it will also make it so you won't be afraid to make mistakes, and we're making mistakes are part of learning how to use the program. So this tool is the move tool that I minutes the very top tool here and you can see I'm trying to move it. And this dialogue comes up with a lot of tax, and it's like what's happening when hit Cancel. What's happening is sometimes you can't do things because the layer is law. You can see I can't click on any of these options. They're all great out. I can't do anything to this. Well, I could do some things, but there's a lot that I can't do to this photograph because it's locked. See, I were in the layers panel here again. If you don't have layers open, come upto window. Make sure layers is checked so all you do to unlock the layer is double click on the little lock. This layer style box is gonna pop up, just press okay? You don't have to do anything with that now. I'm in the move tool, which is the very top tool in the toolbar, and I can move this around. The checkerboard in the background just means that it's transparent. Photo shop doesn't have it white because if it was white, you'd get it mixed up with any white that's in your image. So the checkerboard means that there's a transparent background. I'll show you what that need, what that looks like. It will make it a little more sense if I'm in the layers panel, click the opacity and I'm just clicking and dragging this down. And now you can see that the checkerboard is starting to show through. So we know that this image is opaque. If we had another image underneath, we'd be able to start seeing through, and this gets into more advanced stuff of layering. But just so you know, a lot of times learning these programs, you end up doing some trouble shooting and the layer Being locked is often a reason you can't get stuff done. So now that we've unlocked that layer, you have all of these options open to you, and you can see in her history panel again. If you don't have history, come to window history, we can go back to the very beginning and it's locked again. So you might make the mistake of going back in history. And then you're like, I can't change the opacity. I can't a moving it in this annoying thing is popping up, so just know that you might have locked it again by accident and all you do double click on that lock press, OK? And that's it. So another thing besides duplicate that I want you to get really in the habit of doing is saving a locked so to save you come up to file save. And I haven't picked a place to put this yet, and we're gonna go over the different file types, but I'm just gonna put it on my desktop and press saves. Gonna go over those file types in a minute. No press. OK, so just get in the habit of saving Often. You never know if someone's gonna come and shut off your computer. If you get up or if you're the program is going to crash, anything can happen. So it's good when you're editing to just save often. In fact, if you're gonna learn and see, it is great out now, the save is great out because it's already saved, so I don't need to do it again. If you're gonna learn any keyboard shortcut in Photoshopped, I recommend it be command or control on windows and s. And that's to save and just get in the habit of doing that over and over again or coming up to file save often. So image duplicate and file save are two important ones. And again, the image duplicate was just making a copy, and we're working on the copy and file save is just saving any changes that you've made. 4. 4. File Types: Okay, so I cook quickly. Want to go over the different types of files? There are lots of options for file types, and you only need to really know a few to start with. And then you can sort of figure out as you become more advanced, what your needs will be. This is the pdf that's in the class that you'll be able to download and keep its ears. So this is just going over what we did in the last videos opening and saving in the workspace. I created written instructions in case that helps for your learning style. And you can refer to this anytime you want. You can save it on your computer. Okay, So, file types, you might have noticed that this became a PSD file, and that's basically just a photo shop file. You can Onley open it in Adobe Photo Shop, and this one became a PSD file because we created a layer. When we clicked on the lock and unlock the layer, we created a layer on that made it a PST file. If there were multiple layers, we could save this PST file and then be able to come back and edit them later. So that's why the PSD file is really important. If you have lots of layers that you're working with, you can always go back and edit then and we will do that later in. The courts will have some text, will have two different layers and some text layers, and then you can go back and edit the text So the PSD file. You can upload that toe like a website or you can't really email it. It's too big, so you want to make a smaller file and a J. Peg or J. P. G is the most common. It's kind of a universal image file, and it basically compresses the image. So it's not so big, so it will take away all the layers. It will take away all the extra stuff and compress it so that you can upload it to a website. It's really great for email. Then we have P and G, and with PNG, you can have a transparent background. So think of like a logo or like in this letter D. If it was a PNG file, you'd be able to see through the letter D so you could put it on background. That's what PNG Files air for now. PNG's Air Larger Files Ben J. Pegs. Usually it has more detail and color. It's not as small as the J peg, so it's really best for high quality, larger, colorful files. I tend to work on PNG. Mostly it's just what I personally like. You can work with whatever you want. J. Peg is really universal, so that's a great one to be using. I like to work on PNG, and then sometimes I'll save it for as a J. Peg Lake for my website already email to somebody and then we have a PdF a. Pdf is what you're looking at right now, and it's really best for text documents. But photographs can be saved. His PDS, if you need this, is often used for like presentations. Or if you have a digital portfolio of your artwork or of your photography, you can send the PdF file with multiple images. I'm so you can create a keynote or a Power Point presentation and add the J Packer PNG images and then save the power point as a PdF. That's how I made this. I created a keynote presentation I added my file. So I added this file, and then I saved it as a PdF so anyone could open it and look at it and you can make them small enough t email, which is not. It's a nice option. So, really, these air, the only file types you need to worry about when we come up to file save as so this is a PSD file. Now, if we wanted to save it as a J peg, we come to this format draw tone now. There are a lot of options here, and that's why I don't want you to get too overwhelmed with all the options. Just worry about J. Peg for now, and photo shopped for keeping the layers for the Photoshopped file and then the J Peg. You can also think about doing PNG's if you have some transparency or if you want a bigger file type, Um, but mostly J Peg Photoshopped should be good 5. 5. Scanning & Cropping: Okay, so you might have some old photographs that you want to edit or clean up, and you have to scan them into photo shop. So this is really simple to dio. I just have a pretty inexpensive scanner attached to my computer. You can use one of those three and one scanner printer things. That's fine. Just make sure it's attached to your computer. You go up into Photoshopped file import images from device, so we're scanning it right into Photoshopped. If you have another way, you like scanning better. That's fine. You can just scan the image the way you normally do and open it up in photo shop. Most scanners have similar options here. Okay, so this is creating an overview of my scan. I have a photo that I have put into my scanner when I'm just clicking on the device. If you have multiple devices, just picked the one that has the scanner in it. You want to be able to see all these details, so just in case you don't see them, if it opens up like this, just click show details because we really want to have all of the options available to us. So in this case, I'm going to scan it it in color. I'm going to choose million's. And this is really an the important part, the resolution. So there the resolution or the DP I This just means dots per inch is how clear and crisp the images. So the lower the resolution, the lower the number, the more pixelated it's gonna look, and it's not going to be as clear. You're not gonna be able to make it really big. So I always suggest scanning things in and this highest resolution as you can, and then you can lower the resolution later if your computer doesn't have a lot of room in it, you know, 1 50 is okay, but I think 300 is a pretty good place to start. 300 is the typical resolution for printing, and 600 is even better if you're doing some really high quality printing and then 75 or 100 would really be good if you're just uploaded to a website and you don't want someone to have ah, high resolution image of your photo so they can't make prints of it. But if you're going to make prints of something you want at least 300 d p I and then you can change the name of it. Here. You can tell it where to scan to. I'm gonna have it Skin to the desktop and in the format, you can do a J. Peg. We don't want any image correction. If you don't see anything here, you could do overview. And you can see this is called a bounding box. The box that's around it and you can adjust it. And you can see how my most crooked, which I did on purpose because I want to show you something. And Photoshopped is so smart that it's seeing that ice put it in the scanner crooked. But I'm just going to delete that and I'm going to scan it in crooked. In case you have some crooked scans, I'm going to show you how to easily fix that in Photoshopped. So I'm just gonna hit skin. Oh, and we wanna have it create a new photo shop document here, not a new layer within the document. So it's created a new Photoshopped J peg called scan and we can see that it is crooked. So if you scanned it in crooked. You can go to image image rotation, and if it's sideways, you conduce 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise toe. Flip it around and I'm gonna hit arbitrary. You can move these around any time a dialog box opens, so we need it to go clockwise, and I think it's tilted a lot. So I'm gonna say to degrees and press OK, and that's looking better, but we still might need it a little bit more if you are a perfectionist and you want it to look really perfect. And we have all these lines going at different angles now, it's kind of hard to see so you can come to view show and grid and this grids gonna pop up , and I think we need to go a little more clockwise. So image rotation arbitrary. It's going to show you exactly the same value you had in before, so I'm gonna press OK, and now we went too far. So you can either go back in your history and try it again. Or you can come up to image rotation arbitrary and you can go counterclockwise and maybe I'll do one degree. No, Still not great image rotation, and that's looking pretty good for me. That's fine. I'm gonna take this grid off cause it's a little distracting. So go back up to view and just click grid again, and now we're gonna crop it. So this is the crop tool. It's here on your toolbar. It looks kind of like two. L's overlapping. Andi, this box will show up and you just drag it, click and drag, and I'm gonna cut off some of the more distracting. This is a picture of me and my parents in the nineties, and we have lots of red eye going on here, which is why I chose this picture because I'll show you how to fix the red eye later. So want to get the crop where you want it? You can double click to crop it. Oh, and I see I want to crop it more so I'm still in the crop tool and I'm just clicking and dragging it. I didn't know what this to go up a little more and then I'm going to double click. And that looks better. So I'm going to goto file save to save what I've done. Cross. Okay. And now that saved 6. 6. Adjustments - The Fun Stuff!!: So now we're going to get into the adjustments. This is the really fun part. This is where you can get super creative. This is always the first thing I teach people in photo shop. I think it gets the most beautiful results really quickly and easily, and it gets you warmed up to using the program. This program has a lot in it, and the way to really become an expert in this program is to just basically try everything . I learned this program by watching a lot of tutorials and literally trying every tool, every option to see what they did and really just experimenting on and trying not to get frustrated and just keep on coming back and trying new things and try to have fun with it because you can really do a lot with in this program. So we're gonna focus on some of these adjustments and these were gonna affect the entire image. We're going to come up to image adjustments, and the 1st 1 we're gonna look at is brightness and contrast. So this is really simple. Once you pick an adjustment, this dialog box will come up and you can click it and move it around so you can see your image, and each adjustment has different options in it. So I'm just clicking this and dragging, clicking and dragging, and you can see if you don't see what's happening in your image. Just make sure that this preview is clicked because if you don't have the preview, you can't tell what's going on. So you definitely want that preview clicked. And if you bring the brightness up, I suggest bringing the contrast up or it'll get really you have no contrast, unless that's how you want your image look, which is awesome. So if you like it and press OK, if you realize Oh, I hate the way that looks, you just come into your history panel and go back one step. It's also the history panel is really great for seeing what you've done and seeing what you like and don't like. So you can kind of click back and forth and see what's going on. So we're going to try the next adjustment, which is levels so levels is affecting the highlights and shadows even more. We're gonna take these triangles and click and move them. This one all the way over the left it's affecting the shadows and levels is the place. I usually start with all my images, even my drawings, everything. I start with levels. The one on the right is affecting the highlights, and the one in the middle is affecting the mid tones. So everybody's image is gonna be different. You can spend hours doing this, just kind of play around and see what looks good for your image. And I'm gonna press OK? And now you can see in the history that brightness and contrast is gone because I had gone back toe open and then I I did an adjustment. And so everything below it is going to go away so you can see that's already looking a lot better. I think the next one we're going to try image adjustments is hue and saturation. I encourage you to try all of these and see what they dio. There's no harm. Remember, you're working on the copy, so just try everything saturation. When something is de saturated, it's totally black and white, and when something super saturated, the color becomes really vibrant. So play around with the saturation, the hue you can see all kinds of funky things start to happen. I'm gonna hit. Cancel on that and then also a fun one is color balance. So down here you can affect the shadows. Men tones and highlights shadows air typically cooler, where highlights are typically warmer. So I'll often take the shadows and make them a little more blue. And maybe a little more science. A little more green because I have some leaves back there, and then I'll bring the highlights and make them warmer. So bring the yellows out on the highlights, agendas and some reds up in the highlights, and that's just creates a nice balance. And in the mid tones, you can play around and do whatever you want. See what works for your image. What works for your image might be not work for mine in a press. OK, and now we can see the difference. I think that actually looks pretty good even for a test image. The next thing I want to show you is image adjustments, black and white. So this is not just making it black and white. In this dialog box here, you can choose to make the Reds whatever was read in your photo and I have these apples. You can make them darker. See how that's making whatever red darker or lighter. So it remembers the color information and you can really I can make the greens a lot darker . You can really adjust these. There wasn't no much blue in there, but you can kind of see some. You can really adjust this to make it exactly how you want it to look so you can get a really nice black and white image press, OK? And I'm gonna go back to cut the color version. Okay, so those air adjustments that affect the entire image So I want you to take some time now and just experiment. We did brightness and contrast levels the hue, saturation, the color balance and black and white. So you could even duplicate this again image duplicate. And you can maybe make it called rain black and white. If you want a black and white image so you can have two or three of these open and come to image adjustments black and white, and so you can have a couple open and see what you like and I'm gonna file save get in the habit of saving, and I'm gonna file save the color one that I was working on because I like the way that looks, so just remember to save often. 7. 7. Adjustment Tools: Okay, so these image adjustments that we just did, they affect the entire image. And now I'm going to show you some adjustments that you can basically paint on. There's all kinds of fancy selections and stuff you can dio, and I'm gonna go over that in another video. But for this basics video, think it's good to just try out these adjustment tools, so the Dodge Tool is the 1st 1 so that's probably what you'll see here in the toolbar. But if you right click, you can see there's three Dodge Burn sponge. We'll start with a Dodge tool. Looks like a lollipop. It's the 1st 1 here, and that's basically going toe lightened stuff up, and you're basically just painting it on. Remember, from the beginning, each tool has different options up here, So this is the brush size. We can make the brush really big or really small so you can get really detailed. And I think keeping a soft brush is good. So, like 0 to 10% hardness is probably good because you wanted to kind of look more natural on that will fade it out. You can also make it affect the shadows highlights or men tones I'm going to highlight since we're lightning it and the exposure. This is just the higher the number, the lighter it will be, the lower the number. It won't be as light. So I'm gonna make it really dramatic so you can see what's happening here so you can see how I'm just painting here and it's lightening it up. It's really subtle. When I come over here, you can really tell what's happening. All right, so that's the Dodge Tool. I'm gonna go back in my history, and I'm going to show you the burn tool. Now. The burn tool is making things darker, so if you can see, it's really subtle. So you're just affecting these subtle changes, and you can zoom in. This is the zoom tool here on the bottom, so you can zoom in just by clicking on here and click on the spot you want to get into. And then you can also zoom in by typing in a number down here, and then I'm going to go back into my burn tool, this little hand and I'm getting closer. You can see what's happening. See, it's really just subtle but it can make a big difference in your image. And let's do the shadows here. See, we can see that even more now that it's affecting the shadows so you can play with making your brush bigger and smaller. If you want to get into really tight spaces here, you want a small brush and you can just play around like maybe you want this droplet to really pop out, so you're going to make everything around it darker, and then maybe so you'll make the shadows even darker around it, and then maybe you'll come back into the Dodge Tool. I want to make the brush smaller, and you'll make these highlights pop even more. Make this highlight pop even more. Okay. The next tool we're gonna look at is the sponge tool. So the special is about saturating and de saturating, so saturating just makes the color more colorful, more vibrant, and you can see how it's bringing out that red. We're de saturating. If I switch this to de saturate, it makes it totally black and white. You will make the flow higher and see how that's gonna turn that black and white so you could do something really interesting. I'm going to zoom back out. I'm gonna write in 100% here. I do 80 So you can see how you can do something really interesting in this where you could make everything in the background black and white and just have the apple in color. Or you can make this one apple black and white. You could really do a lot with the's adjustment tools. So these air the investment tools. That's just another fun thing to play around with. So it's not affecting the entire image. It's just affecting what you're painting on. So play around with the brush size, the brush hardness and all of these options. And now, if you don't like any of it, you're like I hate thes adjustment tools. It looks terrible. You can just come back, and that's gone. So if you don't like the way it looks, you don't have to keep it. But I really encourage you to at least try each of these tools, see how they affect your image. There can affect every image differently, play around with all the different options and play around with these adjustments that we worked on really take time because we're gonna make a before and after image. So I want to see what everybody did, how they changed their image from the original photograph to creating these adjustments and making them more vibrant or adding more contrast, get really creative with the stuff. This is the funnest part of the program. Okay, Next, we're going to get rid of that red eye. 8. 8. Fixing Red-Eye, Blemishes, and Scratches: Okay, so now we're going to get rid of this red eye. So I'm gonna come into this zoom tool, which is on the bottom here. Stamina zoom in and then I'm gonna come to the red eye tool, which is behind this band Aid looking thing. Someone a right click and hit the red eye tools going to right. Click on the band Aid on Hit the Red Eye tool. And this is so easy. It's crazy. You literally just put the cross hairs in the red and there is gone. I'm just clicking on the red, looking on the red, clicking on the red, looking on the red You can see some of the blue went up into his eyelids so I can come back into the zoom. We can see if we can fix that with the spot healing brush. So I'm clicking and dragging. That looks a little better. The spot healing brush is also going to help us with blemishes and stuff like this on the face so you can make the brush size bigger, smaller. I like to keep my hardness pretty low so that it doesn't look like a big circle show When the hardness is hard. What happens to make the size a little smaller? Oh, well, that looks OK. So I'm just clicking. But sometimes you can lose the shadow, which will look kind of funny. So I'm going to go back. I'm gonna make my hardness lower. I'm gonna make a size smaller and I'm just going to click on the top here and you can really spend all day. I mean, this is what they do to models When they say they photoshopped them, you can get rid of all this. All the teenage acne. There's some stuff that got in the skin. So I'm clicking and dragging, making that go away, just clicking and dragging. And it's really clearing up the face. I'm gonna zoom out. So I'm gonna come in my zoom tool and go to the negative one up here in the options bar. Just zoom out so you can spend a lot of time with that red eye tool on the spot healing brush tool. So the spot healing brush can even get some of the stuff in the background. I'm just going to click and drag and make the size bigger for getting some of this bigger stuff, so just click and drag and it's going to clean up a lot of that. So over on the suit, where these big spots and I'm just gonna click and drive, you're in all that stuff clean, really clean it up. So if you have a lot of old photos, if you want a wanting to use them for something or putting them in a video are just have them to save digitally, you can really take time to clean them up, make them look great. You can erase your some of your awkward teenage years. Do you want a photo shop too much? But you can get rid of some glaring things. And I think getting rid of Red Eye Ruli really enhances a picture because the red I could just be so distracting if you had an older camera that you were taking pictures with, um and it can really make a photo look a lot nicer. So you how you can see how you can spend hours doing this, or you could just do it really quickly. Go through and get rid of that red eye. You can also apply a filter so the noise is kind of a speck Aly stuff, so you can do reduce noise on. I just usually do the default and I'm gonna press, OK, you can see what happens back here. I'm gonna go back and see how it's a little more like it blurs that stuff in the background , the speckle stuff in the background. It's pretty subtle. You can also try dust and scratches if you go too far on this start to look weird because it kind of blurs out everything. So I think one or two is kind of the most you want to dio. Even that looks a little funny. So I think I'm gonna keep it without the dust and speckles. Think I took away what was most distracting all these little specks. Seacon Just clean up with the spot healing brush so you don't even need to apply that filter. I see it sometimes stuff like that happens and that doesn't look at you. Just go back. So I'm gonna show you from the beginning, coming to zoom out so you can see some in my zoom tool. Negative. So this was the beginning. There was so much red eye in there and then in the end, looks way better, so you can really see how this can make a big difference again. Remember to file saves, so you have that saved. When there's a little Asterix next to it, it means it's not saved. So you want to file, say, the stuff that saved. 9. 9. Creating the Before & After Image: Okay, so now we're going to make the before and after image for what you're gonna post to the class web page and so you can see the progress that you've made. So we're gonna open up the original photo, so the one that's not edited so file open. And my mom just called Apple's Rain. So here's the original. And here's the one that I edited. So this is the before, and I did One is the after zoom out. Okay, so we're going to make a duplicate of this edited version. So image duplicate. And I'm gonna call this before after press. OK, so now we're working on the before after, and what we're gonna do is we're gonna make room to put the before image next to it. So I'm gonna come up to image and canvas size, so I'm gonna double the width. Whatever you're with, IHS double it. So I'm gonna make this 52. I'm going to make it a little bigger than double on, and I'm gonna make it so it adds more space. You can move these arrows around. It's gonna add more space on this side press. OK, zoom out. So you can see what that looks like. Now, if you did the canvas size, make it double it. You double the with again. If you didn't change these anchors around, that's OK, too, because we can take the move tool and we have this layer and we can just move it over. So no big deal. There's a lot of different ways to do things in photo shop, so I want you to find your way of doing things that make sense for you and the kind of work that you're making. Then we're gonna come get the before image and again in Photoshopped. There's a lot of ways to do stuff, so one way to do it is you can right click in the layers panel and you could duplicate layer and then you're changing the destination here. So we're making changing it the destination to the before after image that we just created , but impress. Okay, and now that's on here. I'm in the move tool, and I could just move it over so you can leave a space between your before and after image . If you want or not, that's fine. You can if you want them right next to each other. You can get them really close. You can also use the keyboard arrow keys to just nudge it and get it really perfect. I'm gonna leave a little space, and then we'll crop it. But I'm gonna show you another way of getting the before picture there. So I'm gonna delete this layer that I just brought over the 41 by making sure I'm clicking on it in clicking the trash can. Yes. So another way to get this is by selecting it and copy and pasting. So these air selection tools here, I'm going to get the rectangular marquee tool, which is the 1st 1 It should be what you see. And I'm just going to click in the top corner and dragged to the bottom corner, and then I'm gonna press at it. Copy. I'm gonna come into the before after image and go toe at it based, and it automatically puts it in its own layer. And now I'm going to go into the move tool and I can move it around. And if I want to move this one again, if I want to move the after image, I have to click on the layer that I want to move to move it and you can see that they're in order. So the one on the bottom is going to go behind. I can click and drag this to the top, and then that's on top. So this is a basic introduction toe layers. You don't really need to worry about more than that for this project. 10. 9a. Creating the Before & After Image, Part 2: Sometimes I find that my students accidentally pressed some buttons here in the layers panel in their first starting out. And I just want to point out thes eyes hide the layer. So if there is no I there the layers hidden. So this is helpful to see what stuff looks like without a certain layer. But it also you can accidentally click on this really easy. So just if you think you've lost something, just remember that to check the eye and see that it's there so you can click them on, and not for any image. But that's what that does. It's a really common thing to just click on by accident, and you can also click up in here and lock the layer accidentally, and then you won't be able to do some different things to the layer. So again, to unlock that, you just double click on here and it press okay, and it unlocks so just a quick thing to remember. So we have the before. After we you can move them around by clicking on the different layers and layer panel. You can also name them if that's easier for you by double clicking and this one is after and then double clicking on the name and I'll put before the next thing we're gonna dio first off crop out the extra space. So just crop out the end here, double click to keep it, and then we're gonna add the text so we know the before and after. So this is the tax tool here on the toolbar and none different options for fonts Come up so you can choose from the drop down. Whatever funds you want. I like this one. So you click and drag it out and type in before, okay, It's really small, and no one would be able to see that. So I'm gonna highlight it, and I'm gonna make it bigger, and I could make it even bigger. I could make it 200. That looks better. I can also change the color up here, and maybe I'll make it white. And now I can go into the move tool, and you can see it automatically made this its own text layer. I'm gonna move this to the top because it should be on the top and I can move this around wherever I want. You can come back into the tight tool and double click on here and change the font. Make it bold or regular. Really? Do whatever you want so I can change the text. Change the color up here. So to make another text for the after to make another text layer, I need to be out of the text tool so I just automatically go into the move tool, and then I'm gonna click the text tool again. And this time, instead of dragging out the box, I'm just gonna click here. You'll see the cursor is ready. So that's two different ways of creating text so you can do whatever works for you. I'm gonna go into the move tool, and I'm gonna move this to where I want it. So spend time with this getting it to look the way you want, getting it to look, the colors. You want the text the way you want. And then this is a huge file sides. We have to really big files. First thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna save so all the changes, we're saving it as a dot psd. It's a photo shot format and the reason to say this is the photo shopped format is because if we want to come back and change the text if we want to change the layers, the Photoshopped format has all of that information in it. So you always want the Photoshopped format, but the photo shop format we cannot upload to a website. The website won't read it. It's too big of a file. So we need to make this smaller. So the next thing we're gonna do is making it smaller and getting it ready to upload to the class webpage. 11. 10. Changing the File Size & Saving: Okay, so now we need to make this enormous file smaller so you can upload it to the skill share Kloss webpage. And so you couldn't just learn how to make smaller files. So I'm going to duplicate this image when you get more used to using photo shop. You might not have to duplicate it all the time because you could just do a save as but I think it's safe to get in the habit. I actually duplicate it for myself just because I have deleted files before and I have lost things, and it's really frustrating when that happened. So I think just getting in the habit of image duplicate I'm just gonna let it be called before after copy press, OK, and I'm gonna be working on the copy and first thing we're gonna do is flatten image. Now, I want you to pay attention to what happens in the layers panel over here, flattening the image, gets rid of all the layers and makes want it in tow one layer, so layer flatten images all the way down here at the bottom. Now we can see it's just the background, so I'm gonna go back in my history. Before we flattened it, it had all those layers. After we flatten it, it's just one background. Now we still have the PSD file where we can come in and move stuff around and edit it. But now, in this coffee, we don't have any of those layers to work with. But the file is gonna be a lot smaller. You can also see that when we flattened, it created a white bar. We don't have that transparency anymore, so this is still a big file. I'm gonna come up to image image size, and this is another important thing in photo shop. That you'll use a lot is changing the image size. So this is a 9000 by 3000 pixels. That's enormous. You'd never need that for uploading to a website for Web. It's usually around the resolutions, usually around 72 200 DP. I I usually do it around 100 so you change the resolution first. This is still really big. So for the longest side, you can make it like 500 is probably as big as it needs to be. So let's see what that looks like when a press. OK, It looks really small, but as you can see down here, it's only 33%. So I'm gonna come and type in highlight and type in 100% here. Okay, Now, that looks pretty small. I think that actually looks too small for me. That's not how I wanted to look on the Internet. So I'm gonna come back to before I change the image size in my history and I'm gonna go up to image image size. I'm gonna change the resolution to 100 and I'm gonna change the with 2 1000 We'll see how that looks. And again, it's trial and error. Now that's 100% I think Uploading to this website to a website, people can still read that it looks good, But if he zoomed in me show you groups, let me go to the positive. If we zoom in really close, it's going to start to get pixellated so you can see what that resolution is doing. But for web, you don't want a high resolution image because it will take a long time to load, and you just don't need it. What we're gonna do is we're gonna do a file save as and we're going to make this a J peg. So it's ready. I'm just gonna press. OK, so now this J peg is ready to be uploaded to the skill share site so you can come into the skill share class. And again, this is just another class. You can go into the year project and create a project, and you can click on upload an image to upload your image. Here, you can type in whatever you want minds on the desktop and see it's not even letting us pick the PSD files. So the before, after copy, press open and you can post it and publish it to here so everybody can see what we worked on. This is just the cover image, so I'm gonna hit submit. You can add the full image here in the content, so click on image before after copy press open, and then the full thing will show in your actual post so everyone can see the full before and after image. And I think this is really fun to see what other people work on. You know, you can make subtle changes are really extreme changes. I think this is a nice for you. Just have your before and after images toe look at. I think it really helps, and then you'll hit published on here. When you're ready, you can go back and cancel out of it if you don't like the way it looks, or you can make the project private, if you just want it for yourself up to you. But I'd love to see what you've done. I love seeing what students work on. And, of course, if you have questions, you can always ask questions in there. So it's really important to have the Photoshopped file with all your layers in it, so you can go back and edit. And then it's important to do the image image size and create smaller versions so you can easily upload them. Keep your files really well organized and name them and keep them in folders so you can come up with kind of your own system of doing things 12. 11. Goodbye & Thank You!! : congratulations.
