It was a blessing in disguise because the insurance payout was $5 million. A blessing in disguise is when something bad happens. But because the bad thing happened, something wonderful happens. I fell down, but it was a blessing in disguise because when I stood up, I met the woman of my dreams. Ready, little buddy, Let's do it. It's pronunciation time. A blessing in disguise, A blessing in disguise, a blessing in disguise. 3. "blessing in disguise" - Learn more!: We hope you enjoy the Instagram stories for a blessing in disguise. Parts 12 and three. This is a great idiom. Let's jump in and take an even closer look. Here's the example from the story. It was a miracle Henry got ran over by a dump truck, but he only had a small scratch on his finger. It was a blessing in disguise because the insurance payout was $5 million in this situation , Henry was incredibly lucky. It also sounds like he had some really good insurance. He got ran over by a dump truck, and instead of having to go to the hospital and stay there for months with broken legs, arms and maybe a cracked skull, he only had a scratch on his finger. It seemed like a horrible thing to get run over by the dump truck, but his insurance gave him $5 million. Wow, that really was a blessing in disguise. Something really good happened after something bad happened. Here are some similar and opposite expressions for a blessing in disguise. Let's do the similar ones first. I will say each expression and then pause so you can repeat after me improve your pronunciation and repeat out loud. Good fortune. A stroke of good luck. A miracle. Extraordinary events. In all of these expressions, something good has happened there a little bit different because something bad hasn't happened first. But things are really going well with a blessing in disguise. Immediately at the beginning, something bad or not so good is happening. But after that, Wow, it turns into something wonderful. If you have a stroke of good luck, maybe you got a lottery ticket and you thought you might lose. But you win. You win millions of dollars. Extraordinary events are things which are outside the normal, their incredible. They're wonderful things that happen. Let's do some opposite expressions. Repeat after me. A stroke of bad luck, a misfortune, unfortunate events, a complete disaster in these expressions. Nothing has gone right. Things were bad things, air horrible. We've had bad luck, bad fortune. Horrible things have happened. And now we're just in a bad situation. There's no blessing. It's all horrible. All right, let's do another example. Wow. Being shipwrecked on the island for 25 years ended up being a blessing in disguise because the island was an absolute paradise and Tom never wanted to leave until uh huh. So it was a great place. And then the sharks came. It looks like Tom was on a ship and then his ship sunk. I guess everyone else died because he's the only one on the island. At first it seemed horrible, but now he loves it because it's a paradise. It probably has everything he needs to have a wonderful life. But something else is going to happen. And it looks like the sharks air coming. Maybe if he just stays on the island, he'll be OK if he tries to go for a little swim. Who knows? Here's another example. Fabulous. A reporter and Mr Toilet Paper man, he always seems to be coming back into our life. Let's see what they're talking about. Hello, kind sir. Please tell the world about your incredible adventure in that giant roll of toilet paper. Being stuck in this giant roll of soft toilet paper is a blessing in disguise. Because, um, wait, it isn't. It's horrible. Get me out of here. It looks like the guy wants everyone to think that it's wonderful to be stuck inside this giant roll of toilet paper. But when he's interviewed, he breaks down and tells the truth. He doesn't want to be stuck in the roll of toilet paper. He wants to get out. In this example, it's not really a blessing in disguise because it's all bad. Nothing really good has happened. Maybe the reporter and his company will give this guy some money. Before they published the interview. Who knows? Let's review a blessing in disguise. Similar expressions, good fortune, a stroke of good luck. Ah, miracle. Extraordinary events. Expressions with the opposite meaning, a stroke of bad luck. Ah, great misfortune. Unfortunate events are complete disaster. Time to move on. 4. ostentatious - Instagram Story: Tom asked Henry, Why do you dress in such an ostentatious way? Henry said. I'm the Blake bling. The gold teeth, diamond hearings, designer clothes. I need people to know I'm the man. Ostentatious means you're trying to impress people. You want other people to look at what you're doing. You want to attract attention. He dressed that way because he's trying to be ostentatious. Who? This is a long one. Ready three times. Repeat after me. Ostentatious, ostentatious, ostentatious. 5. ostentatious - Learn more!: Those were the Instagram stories for ostentatious part 12 and three. We hope you enjoyed it. I liked the sunglasses. Let's learn more about this incredible word. Here's the example from the stories Tom asked Henry, Why do you dress in such an ostentatious way? Henry said. I love the bling bling, the gold teeth, the diamond earrings, designer clothes. I need people to know I'm the man in this example. Henry loves attention. He loves when people watch him. When people look at him when people want to know about him, that's the reason he dresses this way. If Henry dressed like Tom, do you think people would really watch him want to know more about him? I don't think so. Henry dresses in a way to attract attention, to get people to notice him. Tom's focus is different. He doesn't dress in an extravagant way. He wears a shirt and jeans with a little smiley face on the shirt. That's it. Tom doesn't want to attract attention. He's probably busy with what he's doing. His projects and other things. Here are some synonyms and anti Nimes to the word ostentatious. Let's start with the synonyms. I will say each word and then wait for you to repeat, say it out loud and improve your pronunciation. Extravagant, flashy, flamboyant, conspicuous. All of these words with ostentatious mean we're looking for attention. We want people to look at us. Hey, look at my ring. Look at my car. Look at my bling bling. I need you to know I'm here and the anti Nimes. Repeat after me. Inconspicuous, moderate, humble, modest. For all of these anti Nimes, you don't really want attention. You don't want people in your business. You don't want them knowing what you do, so you don't dress or act in a way that's ostentatious. Yeah, Another example. George's behaviour was so ostentatious that the lion couldn't help but notice him. George soon learned not to act this way in the jungle. George, George George of the Jungle is not going to be around much longer. I think the lion is about to have a tasty snack. We can say George's behaviour attracts a lot of attention. It's flamboyant, its extravagant. It's ostentatious. The lions will notice, end, smell the meat, and when they go for the meat, they're probably going to go for Georgia's well in a few moments, I think we'll be hearing. Sounds like another example. Great. Ah, Mr Toilet paper, man, you keep coming back. I've been thinking. I need to be a bit less ostentatious. How can I do this? You're joking, right? Get out of the roll of toilet paper. This toilet paper guy, he's really looking for attention. If he wasn't looking for attention, he wouldn't be so ostentatious. He wouldn't sit around in his toilet paper roll. I'm not sure what is expecting. If he really wants to be less ostentatious, less extravagant and have fewer people noticing him, then he needs to stop and get out of the toilet paper roll. Uh huh. Let's review the synonyms and anti names for ostentatious, extravagant, flashy, flamboyant, conspicuous. And the anti Nim's inconspicuous moderate, humble, modest. Hey, what do you say we go to the next lecture? All right, 6. "on the ball" - Instagram Story: Fred jumped up, ran across the street and saved a little girl from a savage crocodile. Henry said, Wow, you're really on the ball. I didn't notice that if someone is on the ball, that means they noticed important details, and they're quick to take action. I'm really glad that you were on the ball, because if you weren't, I would have for gotten to make the payment. Are you ready? Freddy? Let's do this is pronunciation time. Repeat after me on the ball, on the ball, on the ball. 7. "on the ball" - Learn more!: I love instagram stories and this one was great. I was on the ball when I watched it. Let's jump in and really learn what on the ball means. Here's the example. Fred jumped up, ran across the street and saved a little girl from a savage crocodile. Henry said, Wow, you're really on the ball. I didn't notice that. It looks like Fred has ninja skills. Well, at least he wears the uniform. But he was able to see a crocodile that was attacking a little girl, and he kicked the crocodile in the head and save the day. Fred is very attentive. He notices the details and sees what's going on. He takes action. Here are some synonyms and Antin IMS for on the ball. Let's start with the synonyms. I will say each word and then pause. Repeat after me out loud so you can improve your pronunciation. Attentive, alert, watchful, vigilant. So we saw a guy who was super attentive, super alert and very watchful. Save a little girl from a crocodile. All of these words mean the same thing is on the ball. You're focused and ready to take action. Here are the anti Nimes Repeat after me. Careless, negligent, unaware, Ignorant. The's are the opposite. Not so focused. Not so attentive. Not really carrying what's happening? If someone was careless, negligent, unaware and ignorant, they would not be saving a little girl from a crocodile. What an example! Another one. Great. If he was more on the ball, this terrible accident wouldn't have happened if he was more focused, attentive and vigilant than this terrible thing would not have happened. And he wouldn't be going to the hospital. Here's another example Who restrooms. And it looks like they really need to use the restroom. Oh, a lady! And she looks sad. Mr. Toilet Paper Man, you're back again. I'm so glad you're on the ball. I've really needed to use the restroom. Yes, I am always on the ball. When it comes to toilet paper, it looks like this lady really had to go to the bathroom. And guess what? There was no toilet paper, but this guy was there and he saved the day. He's like a ninja, but with toilet paper. He was able to give this lady toilet paper when she needed it most. We gotta wonder, Is he more or less of a hero than the guy that saved the little girl from the crocodile. Mm. Let's review synonyms and anti names for on the ball. Synonyms. Attentive, alert, watchful, vigilant, like a ninja. You know what's going on? Anti Nim's careless, negligent, unaware, ignorant, Not like a ninja. You don't know what's happening, Yeah. 8. collaborate - Instagram Story: Tom said to Henry. Hey, we can collaborate on a project. I'll do 10% of the work and you could do 90%. Collaborate means to work together to get something done. If we collaborate on the project, we can finish it much more quickly. Yes, I knew it. It's pronunciation time. Three times. Collaborate, collaborate, collaborate! 9. collaborate - Learn more!: Ah, another instagram story. Collaborate. Another great word. Let's jump in and learn even more. Here's the example from the story, Tom said to Henry. Hey, we can collaborate on a project. I'll do 10% of the work and you can dio 90%. Mm, I think Tom is lazy. It's easy to see that Tom doesn't want to work and he's lazy. He wants Henry to do almost everything. It's not a surprise that Henry is role in his eyes. He's giving Tom the look of uh, yeah, I don't think so. Here are some synonyms and anti Nimes to the word collaborate. First the synonyms. I will say each word. Repeat after me. Say it out loud and improve your pronunciation. Cooperate, work together, join forces work with. These are all positive words. We're gonna work together, get things done and move forward on our projects. Great. Now the Anti Nim's repeat after me disagree, oppose disassociate Divide in these words, the Anthony ums. We're not working together. We're doing the opposite. Were working against each other or trying to make problems for each other time for an example. You got it, Henry said. I can't collaborate with you. The last time we worked together, I lost my wife, my house and my health, Tom replied. OK, so do you have any good reasons for not collaborating with me? It's obvious here. Tom is in his own world. He's not listening to Henry at all. It also seems like Tom has a very short memory. He's not thinking about what happened to Henry Last time. Henry's life was ruined, his wife died, his house was lost and he got sick. Mm. It's probably not such a good idea for them to work together is probably a better idea. Each time Henry sees Tom, Henry should run away another example. Yes, yes, yes. Ah, the world. Mm. Let's see what these two guys were talking about. If you collaborate with me, we will be able to advance my evil plan and take over the world. Ha. Or we can just go to McDonald's and get some ice cream. Your evil plan can wait until after dessert. If you couldn't tell that was my evil laugh. The guy on the left. He wants to do some strange things and take over the world. The guy on the right is like. Well, okay, but after we get ice cream, I would rather eat ice cream first and then take over the world. Yes, let's review synonyms and anti Nimes four. Collaborate, cooperate, work together, join forces work with anti Nim's. Disagree, Oppose disassociate divide. 10. Pronunciation Intro: Hey, you know what? It's pronunciation time. It's time to practice our pronunciation of the words and idioms that we've been studying so hard in this section. First I will say each word or idiom slowly. Then I will repeat it, but at regular speed. After that, I'll use the word or idiom in a sentence and will practice our pronunciation of that sentence. You may have heard these sentences before. At any time. You can rewind the video and have me repeat and say the word or idiom again. You can even change the audio speed in this course. I'm digital. I'm like a robot. You can control me. I can say the word or idiom all day long. If you want to remember, the best way to improve your pronunciation is with lots of practice. Each time I ask you to repeat out loud, let's do it together. Let's improve your pronunciation 11. Pronunciation - All words & idioms: blessing in disguise. Blessing in disguise. It was a blessing in disguise. Henry got $5 million. Ostentatious. Ostentatious. Why do you dress in such an ostentatious way? On the ball? On the ball. Wow, You're really on the ball, Cole. Lab or rate? Collaborate. Hey, we can collaborate on a project. 12. Story Time! - Review: so we learned a blessing in disguise, collaborate on the ball and ostentatious. I wonder what this story will have. Who looks so Ah, pillow. Ah, crazy guy money, thumbs up, shaking hands in a lady with wavy hair. Let's do it. Let's see what this story is about. Henry's ostentatious and often ridiculous way of dressing ended up being a blessing in disguise. A fashion designer absolutely loved Henry's fashion sense and said he was really on the ball with his designs. Henry was flattered and surprised. He was even more shocked when the fashion designer offered to buy Henry's fashion designs for $2 million. However, Henry said he would rather collaborate with the fashion designer and create a line of women's shoes that feel like you're wearing pillows. The fashion designer agreed, and they lived happily ever after. I think this might be a love story. Everyone thought Henry dressed in a horrible way. They thought it was a bad thing. It turned out to be a wonderful thing because this crazy fashion designer loves how Henry dresses and she was willing to pay him a lot of money. There must be some success in his future because this fashion designer was willing to put a lot of money on Henry's designs. It looks like they're gonna work together and make women's shoes that feel like you're wearing pillows. Hui sounds nice. Sounds like a love story to me. Hmm. 13. Conversation Exercise & Review: it's time for a conversation exercise. First, let's check out the conversation. We weren't on the ball this morning. We woke up six hours late. What a blessing in the skies. Our office building burned down this morning. I guess we won't be seen. Are ostentatious boss or boring jobs anymore? I'm pretty sure everything burned up in the fire. Now we can collaborate on a sardine flavored ice cream business. Now we'll see parts of the conversation. Choose from the list and answer the question. You'll have 20 seconds and some nice music. Pause the video if you need more time. We weren't on the ball this morning. The correct answer is attentive. We're looking for another way to say watchful and vigilant. The answer is careless, Negligent and unaware have opposite meanings. The answer's emotional and thoughtful. Don't fit the situation. The best answer is attentive because it has the closest meaning to on the ball. Next question. What a blessing in disguise. The correct answer is a stroke of good luck. We need a different way to show that these people had good fortune to not be at work when the building burned down. It was a miracle. The answer is a stroke of medium look, A mild misfortune and a complete disaster. Do not describe how lucky these people were. The answer. A dirty situation just doesn't fit here. The best answer is a stroke of good luck because it has a similar meaning to a blessing in disguise. Next question I guess we won't be seen are ostentatious boss or boring jobs anymore. The correct answer is extravagant. The boss in this story likes to attract a lot of attention. We need an alternate way to show this. The answer's moderate, regular, irregular, monotonous and inconspicuous. Do not show how flashy and flamboyant this boss is. The best answer is extravagant because it has the most similar meaning too ostentatious. Next question. Now we can collaborate on a sardine flavored ice cream business. The correct answer is work Together. We're trying to find a different way to show how these people may join forces and work with each other on their business plans. The answer's Fight each other and oppose each other are the opposite of what we need. The answer smiled broadly. Just doesn't make sense. The answer moved together. Sounds tempting, but doesn't indicate a business context. The best answer is work together because it has the closest meaning to collaborate. Now let's see the complete conversation again. But using the replacement, we weren't very attentive this morning. We woke up six hours late. What a stroke of good luck. Our office building burned down did morning. I guess we won't be seen are extravagant boss or boring jobs anymore. I'm pretty sure everything burned up in the fire. Now we could work together on a sardine flavored ice cream business. 14.
